sometimes i wonder if between arriving at chb and his quest, luke actually put effort into whatever passed as chb's academic program, in the hopes of being able to someday get out of the demigod life and live normally and get a mortal job, etc. and if he did, how badly his quest then kronos broke him, making him realize that for him nor any other demigod, there'll never be any escaping this life. that you can be the best swordsman in 300 years or "aged out" of chb and still there will be a monster looming over your shoulder, waiting to tear into you. a luke who would trudge through slogs of textbooks even if they were about stuff he was disinterested in turning into a luke who refuses to be alone if it isn't with his sword and ten straw dummies he can hack to bits in a blind rage.

Percy's arms dangle over Jason's neck and he tilts his head just right so the kiss—the bond—can be deepened.

He has hated feeling lost since this quest started. But right here, he thinks, he'd gladly lose himself in Jason Grace.

Even for a while.

But at the same time Jason is absolutely in charge. He teases and pushes Frank just to get a reaction. Jason plays dumb until Frank gives him an explicit order.

But also them confessing not because they can't hold it in anymore, but because the other needs to know they are loved and cherished, because Percy's feelings don't matter, but Nico's are so important, and Nico doesn't care about rejection as long as Percy gets to finally feel good about himself.
