Overheard at the bau
JJ: "Did you make a doctor's appointment?"
Spencer: "Not yet"
JJ: "Why?"
Emik, squinting at the screen: "I think that says that you need to call on a full moon after sacrificial a goat and pledging your allegiance to Hades before there's even a chance of your call going through?"
JJ: "...Spence, have you considered voodoo?"

Liveblogging Scar Stream 6/8/24 Part 2
32:00 Scar discusses “noise” in builds while hunting for witches. It is important to reduce too many extra details so the eye travels where you want it to. Tango asks for no sleep.
35:00 Return to the train engine for the evening before nighttime witch hunting. Scar talks about The Acolyte. He is happy there are aliens, but thinks the second episode was “a bit wonk-wonk” and “hokety dokety.” He doesn’t like that the point of the show is to make the Jedi look bad.
36:45 Scar finds a witch and gets it in a boat. He returns to the train for a nametag and tries to sleep, but is too poisoned. After a little yelling, he manages to sleep through the night, then remembers he was not supposed to sleep.
38:00 Scar finds another witch, but it poisons him and runs away. He decides he probably deserved that. He tries to make a nametag but has no levels. He goes and finds the boated witch, but Tango is there. Tango menaces the witch. Scar asks him to please make the nametag for him so his witch doesn’t despawn. Tango names the witch and it accidentally poisons itself. They watch the witch and hope it doesn’t die. Tango asks for food and Scar says he’s all out, then provides some carrots when Tango starts slapping him. Scar offers further help with Tango’s redstone, and Tango seems resigned to the possibility. He leaves.
43:00 With the witch secured, Scar flies away into a tree to lecture the chat about how the Jedi are not bad and do not steal children, were corrupted by Palpatine but were still generally good, etc. He is very concerned about chat’s misconceptions about this. He does not like the directors bringing in “their own take” on the universe ignores what the universe actually is. They need to make their own universes. Chat’s opinion is mixed.
45:45 Scar wants to know when Jedi became the FBI of the galaxy, and what is even up with those belt buckles. Where did they get all those handcuffs?
48:30 Scar attempts to sleep again, but manages to remember and get out of bed before he actually kills the night. He resumes his rant, this time focuses on remakes of older stories.
49:40 Scar comes up with a plan to move the witch. He shames two creepers for excessive PDA and begins creating a witch-movement track.
50:30 Someone asks if Scar has found Big Rons. He says he has not, and begins to say something else, then breaks off and says it’s a spoiler. He responds to a commenter saying that he should give Frank the Strider some lava by saying it’s a good idea, then gets blown up by a creeper. He actually has a totem in hand so he does not die, but it does seem to have taken a year off his life. Tango says sleeping is now fine.
52:00 A chatter suggests that the Jedi have significant moral blind spots. Scar resumes making the witch track and says he is worried the new directors will have the Jedi committing war crimes or something. He is worried that maybe Star Wars is a dead horse that has been beaten too hard. There’s just so much content that has been squeezed out of it, maybe it needs a rest. He rants about Disney exploiting its IP. A chatter comments that the Jedi committed actual war crimes in the Clone Wars. Scar says he has to rewatch, but he is somewhat skeptical. He says that some Jedi were corrupted and have done bad things, but it has never been canon that the Jedi in general steal children and are bad.
56:00 A chatter says they are remaking Twister, Scar is dismayed. A chatter claims to be a TV writer for Star Trek and agrees with Scar’s contention that the writers and directors of franchises are caretakers. Scar agrees with the agreement and doubles down that people who want to pursue their own vision are great but should make their own universes.
58:00 Scar laughs about the idea of remaking Twister, a goofy 90s movie that is one of the few movies his grandmother kept on VHS. He throws some shade on George RR Martin for not finishing the Game of Thrones books, says he deserves shade after the comments he made about Star Wars. He rants some more about Disney’s love of sequels.
1:01:00 Scar begins trying to get the witch on the track It poisons him again. He suggests that it’s a weird time for media and maybe people can just like Hermitcraft instead. He hypes up Cub and Tango a little.
1:03:45 Scar extolls Walt Disney for wanting to make money for the sake of making more great things. He says Disney now makes money just to make money. The witch poisons him severely again. Scar says that he always wanted to be an Imagineer, but he couldn’t be happier than doing what he is now with Hermitcraft. He loves having the ability to make what he wants to make. Hermitcraft is great because he and his friends can do anything they want within the very loose guidelines. He talks up Bdubs and Short Claims Court, disregarding chat’s attempts to correct him to Tall Claims Court. He talks about the history of Hermitcraft and how it’s been going along mostly smoothly without chasing trends or big gimmicks, just gradual growth and improvement over time.
1:08:00 A chatter donates a thousand dollars with the hopes that it will help with medical expenses. Scar is a bit verklempt and thanks them. Chat is very excited. Scar tells the chat that, speaking of medical expenses, he may be disappearing for a bit around the end of June. He gets derailed back onto The Acolyte, then gets poisoned again by the witch. He gets the witch into the minecart.
1:10:30 Scar says he’s dealing with residual issues from his surgery in 2022 and has another surgery coming. He could be home the day after the surgery, or could wind up in the hospital for some time, especially given his general bad reactions to general anesthetic. There could be a gap of videos going into July, but he hopes not. As for the wheelchair, it is rant time again. A Medicare rule from 2018 says Medicare won’t fund chairs made of “experimental or exotic materal,” which means “anything that isn’t aluminum.” Other insurers followed suit, so now insurers will only pay for aluminum chairs. Scar needs a lighter chair for his and his parents’ sake. He is not allowed to pay the difference between an aluminum chair and a lighter chair, and insurance will not pay for any of the parts put on a lighter frame. A new chair would be about 9,000 dollars out of pocket. It is very frustrating, but he really needs a new wheelchair.

me and my mum were listening to danish news about how rigshospitalet (basically the largest hospital in denmark) was cutting back on costs by no longer covering the costs of tattooing nipples on breast-cancer cis women patients who have had breast re-construction, which is paid by tax payer money/free on the hospital
and that's all a discussion about gender reaffirming care!
whether or not the nipple counts as "distressing enough" is a thing I won't get into (I am personally getting mine removed -- opposite gender affirming care!!! same-but-different) -- what is interesting here to me, is firstly that what is being argued -- the big fascinating hypocrisy at the centre -- is notably not whether or not cis women need to prove a significant amount of psychological distress by speaking to psychiatrists and jumping through segregated healthcare hoops
and yet in denmark trans people do have to do this in order to access care -- not to the same amount as in some countries (notably it is done at the hospitals, but as far as I'm aware it's only the two main hospitals in Denmark that offer it, and it's not legal to go private within the country), but that is still the process and was until not-so-many-years also including forced sterilisation
the idea that a cisgender woman might feel significant gender-based distress at not having breasts was not in question in the discussion my mum and I were listening to
the other thing that is interesting is that the person at the rigshospitalet who was arguing that the nipples was too much cost was a cis dude. and of course cis dudes can have breast-cancer, but I have a feeling this guy was not speaking from that kind of thinking + of course the weight of "being a woman who has breasts that look like people think breasts should look" is an issue that he would never have to deal with, and so there was indeed an example there of a doctor who was not taking cis women's dysphoria seriously and arguing a (partial) rolling back of care on this basis
to what extent do cis women have to contend with looking "enough" like a woman because of misogyny? to what extent can one argue the dysphoria they feel is an innate idea of the self that doesn't match with what they see? to what extent is it a reaction to a different traumatic event (the scars a reminder of having been sick)? to what extent is there a cultural disgust against scarring that ought to be unlearned?
I'd argue that for the particular question of whether they deserve the care right now, those questions aren't going to help. offer the care and we can dismantle harmful notions about "correct" womanhood next to it (putting the ball in the court of a far bigger sandpit of societal work we need to do), and at the same time be cognizant of how that hits trans women 100 times over just for existing and having to perform hyper-femininity or else it doesn't count but is also demonised for being a performance, and in a different-but-similar way hits anyone who is assigned female at birth who is trying to build a space of non-conformity and/or masculinity and being scrutinised for "always" being a female while also being masculine traitors (just look at responses to elliot page) (just look at butches regardless of AGAB full stop)
I am supportive of cis women (and cis men) receiving gender affirming care. now they need to be supportive of me and mine receiving the same

Me - *complaining about valid reasons and things I'm angry about*
Some people - You just need to let that anger go. Being angry won't help the situation. You can't change things by being angry. You just need to learn to accept it.
Me - congrats, now you're on the list

I'm sorry I've been so absent. I'm really trying to post more for you all.
more info under the cut
i think ive mentioned that i have various health issues and conditions before
the big ones affecting me right now are seasonal affective disorder, fribromyalgia/chronic pain syndrome, and plantar fasciitis in both feet and on top of all that, i am currently transitioning.
theres a lot of financial strain on me at the moment; my fiance's income is the only one we have. i'm too disabled to work a regular job but not disabled enough to receive disability income. thanks america. but yeah i owe over $1400 to various medical offices in addition to the ongoing copays for my various meds (a month's worth of t is $60), thanks america, AND i'm about to turn 26 next month, after which i will no longer be able to be on my parents' health insurance, thanks america.
all that to say that if i continue to be somewhat absent I'm very sorry

fr though on the Finger Front I think I'm probably fine even if that was momentarily bad enough I considered seeing someone, I was not joking about it being a fuckin fountain of blood for a bit there lmao
but the skin's still hanging on and blood appears to have clotted under and around it and isn't bleeding anymore and isn't even painful when pressure's not on it, so fuck it we'll see how it goes
isn't like I had much feeling in that part of my finger to begin with anyway because -gestures @ dermatillomania-
...texting with only one thumb is gonna be ass though :'D

how goes ADWD?
bad aldsjflkdsj
idk if i'm like, burned out on asoiaf (i can't be, i talk about it all the fucking time i still get excited lol) or if it's like "oh god i'm so close to the ending and then that's it and we're never getting twow" or if i really am anxious about some of the later plot points - because like, i wasn't as nervous to read theon's chapters where he lets his men rape the women on the shoreline, or rapes kya, and i think part of that is it's a lot more vague? because theon is trying really hard to not think about what it is he's doing. whereas that block i had with the red wedding, and now i think with the tyrion chapter where he rapes the sunset girl, tyrion is Very Aware of what's happening because he's purposefully and actively taking steps Down The Wrong Path because he's testing himself, trying to see if he has the stomach to be a villain, to really accept that he is ~the monster they think he is~ so he's very aware that what he is doing is rape, and it's right there in your face. but i'm unsure if this is the block, it just seems like the most likely culprit? - but anyways i've been reading stuff just not a dance with dragons.
i did read a few jon snow chapters so i'm moving along a little bit? but i devoured this non fiction book called "no beast so fierce" which was about man eating tigers, i've been getting pretty consistently through "iron, fire and blood" as well as "madhouse at the end of the earth" which is another non fiction book (about a journey through the northern passage that went bad, as most did, and as someone with a phobia of dying at sea/drowning, i have an equal fascination with stories about people dying at sea because idk i'm a masochist and i've read/watched a lot about sea voyages gone terribly wrong, but i hadn't read about this one! i'm excited!) (i'm not being overdramatic about the phobia either, i had a panic attack while watching life of pi and the terror but good god was it so worth it!! humans vs extreme elements stories are fascinating to me as someone who would die instantly because of my disabilities!!!) and i speed-reread the queen of the damned and the vampire armand and the daniel molloy bits of...i think it was prince lestat, is the one where he's still with marius and trying to get marius to let him go out and flirt with armand lol, so i am reading a bit more (not as much as before) I'm just not reading adwd!
sucks because everytime i pick it up, i'm having a great time!! i love jon's story at the wall as lord commander, i love the horror fantasy of bran's chapters, i fucking love the meereenese knot, and i'm excited to get to all the aegon vi stuff to more solidly solidify my opinion there on whether he's a blackfyre or not and how that theory would even work (because every time someone is like "well they got sold into slavery" i'm like please be serious alsdjf), and i know basically everyone i follow/am moots with hate barristan but i love that useless old man so much!!!! but everytime i try to read my brain goes bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZzzzzzz like a bug getting zapped by a light.
