Amber Heard beats Johnny Deep to become Google’s most-searched celebrity of 2022
Actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation case has been one of the most talked-about celebrity cases in recent times. They have been making headlines since their trial earlier this year. Now, presumably due to their high-profile legal battle, as per a recent report, which analysed data from Google search trends in 2022, Amber has been declared the most-searched celebrity on Google this…

Johnny Depp Vs. Amber Heard Settlement Agreement 2022.
On December 19, 2022, a settlement agreement was agreed on from Amber Heard’s team. Her insurance (still in legal suit against another insurance co. Amber had) has agreed to pay Depp $1 Million, finally settling the long, tedious legal battle that finally came ahead during 2022 this summer in Virginia.
Both Amber Heard, her team and Johnny Depp and his legal team have dismissed their appeals after the settlement agreement. I saw a lot of twitter threads and articles for some reason marketing this as a win for Amber Heard, that the verdict was thrown out because of the settlement and that Amber is free to speak the same defamatory statements she’s made on Johnny in the 2018 OP from The Washington Post and it’s clear that people are purposefully lying to their followers and readers on the facts of this announcement for the settlement, what it means for this case and the current and final verdict for the defamation trial that took place this year in Viriginia.
For those that still believe Amber and are still for some reason thinking she actually won the trial, she didn’t. This case cannot be re-tried, and the current verdict stands that Amber defamed her abuse victim, Johnny Depp and did so with malice. She cannot repeat any defaming statement she’s made on Depp in the past, if she does then she’s opening herself to another lawsuit for another defamation trial, so if she repeats her false statements in the press, on social media, in literature, in interviews, etc then she can and will be sued again. Freedom of speech does not mean free from consequences; it does not cover you when you purposefully lie on someone publicly and in doing so ruining someone’s reputation. She lost her defamation case due to actually defaming her victim and doing so with malice.
Her paying out the settlement that her insurance agreed to does not vacate the verdict in Virginia, so please do not believe fake attorney’s and fan pages that can’t take 5 minutes to google what a verdict is and how settlements work or what they mean to the winning party.

I have my misgivings against defamation laws, so I am not necessarily enthusiastic about how Johnny went about to challenge claims that he was abusive to Amber Heard.
Or at least how legal systems are set up to facilitate challenges to public claims of one being an abuser.
But that can be discussed another time. Either way misgivings about defamation laws doesn't underly the non sequiturs made for the umpteenth time by those unconditionally believing Amber Heard's claims or refusing to consider the possibility that there is truth to the claim she was abusive against Johnny.
Yes, there is definitely a problem with the fact that England's defamation laws put the burden of proof on the defendant, not the plaintiff. But remember, the defendant in England was News Group Newspapers Ltd, not Amber Heard herself.
There is a big difference between trying to prove the alleged victim defamed the alleged abuser and that a newspaper defamed the alleged abuser by publicly believing those claims.
For the record, no offence intended to those who support Johnny Depp, I believe it was the right decision to not punish the newspaper, whatever one's misgivings about the airing of claims about public figures.
As for Amber Heard supporters citing social media as the reason for why Johnny Depp won in the United States, they are reaching as much as Johnny Depp supporters were doing when it came to accusations about bias in the case in England.
As for hawkbeetle's nonsequitur about Amber Heard not mentioning names, people are not stupid. Amber knew and "we all" knew who she was talking about. And defamation laws still applies if it is easy to infer who is being accused.
For the record, whatever my disagreement with the non sequiturs of Ulrika Jonsson, neither she nor the newspaper should be sued for the article.
EXTREMELY rare w from the uk media

Hate to break this to people but the Brad and Angelina situation is just like the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard situation, with one major difference — there are children involved.
Amber and Angelina are two women who’ve been abused by their husbands who are rich and famous. I heard Brad might’ve sued Angelina for defamation, sounds familiar??
I see people who “lowkey wants Brad to win” because they hate Angelina. And Angelina is an even bigger star than Amber is — but it doesn’t matter because people will take every opportunity to turn on women and hate them, even when they’re finally speaking out against someone who abused them.
It doesn’t matter how much evidence, or in Brad and Angelina’s case, the testimony from their kids. People would rather believe a woman has poisoned the mind of her kids rather than the fact that they grew up in an abusive household where they witnessed and lived through their fathers abuse.
As someone who knows people who’ve been in a marriage that was abusive, let me tell you: the kids always know.
Can we not repeat history again? Can we not treat Angelina the way people treated Amber? Is it too much to ask that people believe women and children?

Perhaps these reasons to believe Amber Heard’s allegations might be helpful for you:
1- Johnny Depp admitted to David Heard that he had behaved unacceptably towards Amber, referring to the violent Australia incident of 2015.
2- Johnny Depp’s own staff admitted that he had kicked Amber Heard on a plane (in front of others) and that they were disgusted with his conduct. One (Stephen Deuters, I believe) contacted Amber by text message to explain that Johnny Depp “cried” when he was told that he had kicked Amber.
3- Johnny Depp repeatedly used the most repellent, misogynistic slurs against Amber Heard, including threats to beat her and destroy her reputation. Domestic abuse also encompasses verbal and financial abuse. It’s not just about whether Depp hit her or not. Even without physical violence, the above is unacceptable for any relationship.
4- Amber Heard told friends by text message (publicly available) that Johnny Depp had beat her up again. (The violent episode that caused a swollen lip and a head injury.) She also begged for assistance from medical staff via text to check for signs of a concussion and requested makeup assistance to hide the injuries.
5- Whitney Heard, Amber’s sister, backs up Amber Heard’s allegations of domestic abuse and claimed to have witnessed an episode of abuse where Depp grabbed Amber Heard by the hair and repeatedly slapped her. You might want to take note of this, since you criticise Amber Heard for hitting Depp. She did. The question is, was it violence or self-defence?
6- It’s worth pointing out also that in the United Kingdom, a judge found in 2020 that 12 out of 14 of Amber Heard’s allegations were sufficiently proven to a civil standard. Judge Nichols provided detailed reasons as to why he overwhelmingly accepted Amber Heard’s claims against Johnny Depp, taking into account all possible opposing arguments. His judgement is available online and you will find it incredibly thorough.
7- Amber Heard claimed to have therapy notes where she had disclosed alleged abuse at the hands of Johnny Depp from at least 2012. I am not sure whether these therapy notes were revealed when pre-trial documents were unsealed, but it is worth checking into this. There’s also a draft of an unsent email from Amber Heard from 2013, written to Johnny Depp but sent to herself, in which she accuses Depp of repeatedly hitting her.
8- Johnny Depp has a consistent history of violent and abusive behaviour. Back in the 1990′s, Depp trashed a hotel suite to the tune of almost $10 000 whilst in the middle of an argument with his former girlfriend, Kate Moss. When the police arrived, they escorted the shaking supermodel from the building, and Depp was banned. In a biography of Kate Moss from 2015, Maureen Callahan claimed that Kate Moss was afraid of Johnny Depp’s rages. To my knowledge, Kate Moss has never contradicted this claim or sued Callahan, despite testifying last year that Depp was never violent towards her. That may be true, but violent rage is still a form of emotional abuse.
Former girlfriend Jennifer Garner complained of Depp’s bitterness and jealousy problems. Former lover Ellen Barkin testified to the same effect. Former girlfriend Winona Ryder has alluded to problems she had after breaking up with her first serious boyfriend, which appears to have been Johnny Depp. Former long-term partner Vanessa Paradis alluded to feeling sad in a relationship for a long time. She was paid off with a staggering $150 million, and it is not clear why. Depp’s former wife, Lori Ann Alison, was also paid off. It’s worth noting that Amber Heard received a very small settlement compared to previous partners, so the claim that she was a golddigger are clearly untrue-- but were heavily weaponised during the US trial last year.
Depp has also been arrested and charged for assault before. Shortly after the 2022 trial, he paid off Greg Brooks, who accused him of assault on the set of City of Lies. Depp had admitted to this assault in a magazine interview, yet the final copy was redacted to exclude this confession. The terms of this settlement are unknown.
9- Needless to say that abusing drugs and alcohol and violence go hand-in-hand. It’s astonishing that people are willing to believe that Joe Public is capable of beating his wife if he chronically abuses alcohol, yet want to believe that despite repeatedly blacking out and admitting to violent rage in his own text messages, Johnny Depp was apparently incapable of hitting his wife.
10- This is not necessarily proof that Amber Heard is telling the truth, but it should trouble anyone who respects the law that people alleging domestic abuse report feeling afraid of challenging the alleged perpetrators for fear of being hit with a ruinous defamation lawsuit. They also report being horrified by the shameful and unprecedented campaign of bullying, humiliation, and death threats sent to Amber Heard: from jeering at her in public to mocking serious allegations of rape, which should never have been made publicly. (The UK trial allowed her to append these claims in a confidential annexe.) When alleged victims feel afraid and alleged perpetrators feel confident, something has gone seriously wrong in the justice system and in society.
Idk I want to be on amber heard's side because honestly johnny depp seems like such a dipshit asshole but I can't find any reason to believe her. It doesn't matter how much of a dick someone is, if she was hitting and chasing him around I think she might have been in the wrong

“Women are just as bad as men,”
Yeah but in literally every context they are not.
For every bad thing a woman has done, men have done worse, more frequently, and with fewer consequences.
That is why it is all men.
When men do bad things, they get no consequences.
But when women do horrible things, they get mocked and a lot more consequences than their male counterparts.
Look at the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard situation.
Johnny is looked like an innocent victim(in my eyes he wasn’t)
But Amber gets mocked, memed and ridiculed.
It’s the misogyny and patriarchy for me.
"when men do bad things they get no consequences."
If you only pay attention to incredibly rich men in positions of power, sure, but pay attention the other 99.99% of men and it's abundantly clear that's a bold-faced lie. Honey, even being accused of wrongdoing (true or not) has caused men to kill themselves. "no consequences" is the view of someone who doesn't pay attention to what happens when a man does something bad.
Amber Heard was mocked, memed, and ridiculed because she was an abuser who confessed to her crime. Female abusers rarely face consequences, so of course people were clowning on her, especially in the face of idiots acting like she did not wrong even in the face of her confessing ON TAPE to abusing Johnny Depp.
And for the record, btw: even with multiple courts finding he did not abuse Amber, and even one ruling that a news outlet defamed him by calling him an abuser, his career was pretty heavily affected by the accusations. As was his mental health.
Men face consequences. The biggest consequences women face for their actions is a much smaller jail time than they would have gotten if they were male and some mocking. Men have been lynched based on an accusation alone. Men get gang-raped and murdered in prison if their crime (whether they're truly guilty of it or not) has anything to do with harming women and especially children.
"men face no consequences" is a delusion.

people where bringing up Amber Heard as an example of what happens "when you say the name" forgetting that Heard in fact, did not say Depp's name, but instead did the same exact thing Shubble did
People have short memories. There's a whole standard for how to handle when someone accused of defamation without mentioning a specific name.
I'm tired of people thinking law is like some quirky movie where there's tons of loopholes you can use. There really aren't unless you are rich.
Her speaking up against an abuser who has more resources at his disposal was an act of bravery. The courts, both UK and US, are SO heavily biased toward men. And, as you mentioned, fucking Johnny Depp has shown the extent men can abuse that system to punish people that speak up.
There's a lot of really good reasons why she didn't say his name, but something about writing off how much courage it took to speak because there is no legal protection is starting to get to me.

She told the Huffington Post: “I’ve never met Amber Heard in my life, but I know what I know about Johnny Depp. "He never touched me, but I saw violence. I saw him strangle an AD [assistant director]. He did throw a wine bottle. "But I didn’t feel at the time that [testifying] was an act of bravery. I felt it’s just what you do.”

Alex Jones fans are actually clinically brain damaged and it’s hilarious!
“B-but freedom of speech!”
Freedom of speech doesn’t apply to defamation. His lies caused the victims of a school shooting to be mass harassed. Imagine your child being shot in the face and then years later some fat short guy starts making claims that you’re a crisis actor and an army of drones start harassing you for it.
These idiots are impressively stupid. I bet they celebrated when Johnny Depp won that lawsuit even though Amber Heard was just using her “freedom of speech”

i’ve been thinking and crying about it since it happened. so many feelings… shock, grief, anger, disappointment, and just truly sad overall. but now, a pang of guilt hit me. i cannot imagine how maya must be feeling. the world (including me) is now calling a man, who physically and emotionally abused her and had recently been harassing her, kind and a source of happiness. from what we do know and have heard since 2010, liam was a sweet boy who grew up to be a kind man but i still can’t help but feel hypocritical. i know it’s a bad comparison but i would definitely be judging people who mourned depp if it was him.
i don’t think it’s fair to compare liam to depp. if what maya is saying is all true, then of course i feel for her—but her book is marketed as fiction inspired by real events. that means certain details have been changed or exaggerated. and no that still doesn’t make any of it okay, but liam was a 20 smth year old guy struggling with addiction and apparently bipolar. he was a 20 smth year old who repeatedly and publicly spoke about seeking out help, going to rehab, realizing he was hurting people, wanting to get better. johnny depp was 52 when he married amber heard. he was almost 60 when he publicly humiliated and villainized amber heard, despite mountains of evidence that he horribly abused her. and he didn’t win the domestic violence case—he only won the defamation case. that is not the case with liam and maya. liam wasn’t a child when he met maya, but he also wasn’t an evil mastermind. and grown people had preyed on him. i can sympathize with maya and mourn the guy who lit up my world for years and years without feeling bad. because he did. he brought me so much happiness for so long and that’s the guy i’ll miss for a long long time

Support Of Amber Heard Alongside French Feminists & Cinema Figures (Melanie Goodfellow, Deadline, June 05 2023)
"Nobel Prize-winning writer Annie Ernaux has signed an open letter in support of Amber Heard, decrying “the vilification” and “ongoing online harassment” of the actress.
Ernaux won the Nobel Prize in Literature in October 2022 for her work charting the lives of women in France from the 1960s onwards, including abortion drama Happening, which formed the basis for Audrey Diwan’s 2021 Venice Golden Lion winner of the same name.
She is among a group of 68 French feminists and cultural figures to have signed the online letter in an initiative coinciding with the first anniversary of the actress’s defeat last June in a highly-mediatized defamation trial brought by ex-husband Johnny Depp. (…)
The letter does not question the verdict but rather voices concern over the “vilification” and “ongoing online harassment’ of the actress; the way in which the trial became a media circus and the implications of how she was treated for other women and vulnerable parts of society.
“Much of this harassment was fueled by disinformation, misogyny, biphobia, and a monetized social media environment where a woman’s allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault were mocked for entertainment,” reads the letter.
“The same disinformation and victim-blaming tropes are now being used against others who have alleged abuse,” it continues."
