Thinking about that Twitter thread of people's anesthesia stories and when I went to get my hysterectomy, the anesthesiologist kept asking me if I wanted something "to help me relax" and I kept saying no because I was honestly extremely calm and weirdly having a pretty good time since the medical team was so nice and finally we get to the OR and all the surgeons are bustling around getting things ready and it's starting to get busy and finally the anesthesiologist is like "I'm going to give you something to help you relax (I am not asking)" and I was like okay I guess it is starting to get kind of loud in here anyway it turns out the thing "to help me relax" was the anesthesia. Ma'am.
#please feel free to ignore this#Jake meets world#It didn't occur to me until like 12 hours after the anesthesia wore off#In retrospect the doctors telling me it was much easier to readjust me on the surgery mat while I was awake made much more sense#I just thought it was funny that at no point was she like 'time to go to sleep!'#Also one of the interns and one of the residents had the same name and it turns out the resident insisted#because she kept getting the interns emails and wanted to meet her doppelganger

༉‧₊˚. 𝐈. Part 1
masterpost
Being a kindergarten teacher, you have your fair share of troubles regarding loud kids. But you didn't realise that on this school trip, a certain someone will make you experience your worst fear in your entire teaching career.
5 kids + 1 manchild = chaos. This wasn't the brother of Yuuji Itadori you were expecting!
“Miss! Nobara stole my toy!”
“No I did not! Shut up!”
The wailing of children made you exasperated, watching Nobara's and Megumi's squabble before the class boarded the coach. The brown haired girl had stolen Megumi's dog toy, one of a pair. Your lips puckered, crossing your arms:
“Nobara, give it back. Remember what we said about taking things without permission?”
The little girl gave a whimper, glancing downwards with a look of guilt, “It's mean…”
“And?” You asked, putting on your best teacher-sounding tone.
“...And if we want something, ask first~!” She repeated in a jingle, obviously something that you had instilled in your students' brains for some time.
Nobara looked to her right, turning to Megumi and stuttering out, “Can I play with it?”
“No!” Megumi snatched the plush back, earning a scowl of disgust from the other child.
“Meanie! Meanniee! Go away!”
You had been a kindergarten teacher for two years now, watching classes grow up and leave, but this was by far the most boisterous of them all. Nobara Kugisaki, Megumi Fushiguro and Yuji Itadori were all the resident troublemakers, though, speaking of Itadori– he didn't show up yet. You look around, trying to spot locks of pink hair within the sea of excitable children.
Last week, quite spontaneously, you had been told that there was a new parent chaperone joining the field trip; Yuji's older half-brother– Choso Kamo. Assuming that you hadn't seen anyone with pigtails with the little rascal alongside them, you assume they must be both running late.
“Megumi, let that little brat play with the toy, both of you screaming is pissing me off,” a gruff voice spoke. You turned back to the arguing duo, noticing a newcomer patting– rather, manhandling Megumi's head. Toji Fushiguro.
“But I don't wanna!”
“Do it, or I'll sell you.”
The black haired child gave a groan, finally nodding to Nobara's request. Internally sighing, you gave a wry smile to Toji, trying to telepathically remind him not to swear around kids. He seemed to get the message, holding his hands up in false defence.
“Whoops. I'll do better, Miss L/N,” he joked in a high pitch, earning an eye roll from you.
You two had a close friendship, meeting each other in university and later named godmother of Megumi by his late wife (the man would never bother with sentimental stuff like that).
“Have you seen Yuji? Or his brother? The coach leaves soon…” you shot the question towards Toji, who had also taken up the role of parent chaperone by Megumi's incessant requests (begging).
“Yuji Itadori…?” He paused, thinking, before his face contorted into a laugh, “Oh! That kid! Nah. The one that plays with Megumi? I'm friends with his older brother, y’know?”
“Oh?” You shot a questioning look towards the seeming off handed comment Toji gave. Choso didn't seem like the type of guy to keep Toji around as a friend, but you were always willing to be proved wrong.
“Yea. Goes to the same MMA club as me, shit guy. Probably running late, dick stuck in some bitch and forgot the time.”
You give Toji a hard elbow at his rather loud tone near the kids. He smiles, shrugging carelessly. Though, it did make you wonder, who exactly was he talking about? Yuji's older brother had always seemed like a well adjusted guy, if you ignored his tendency to act emo. And he was always punctual to stuff, so this situation made you slightly worried. Itadori had no trouble cheering up the entire class, his selfless nature not lost on you. Whoever raised him did an amazing job…
“Should probably load these fuc– kids… onto the coach. Where's Nanami?” Toji looked around, before spotting the blond-haired teacher. He turned on his heel without a goodbye, walking towards him.
Toji was right, it was getting late, the driver was probably irritated at the entire ordeal. You gave a sigh, hoping that the two finally would show up.
You rolled your shoulders back, and raised your chin, standing tall.
Clap! Clap!
The storm of children grew silent at a moment's notice.
“Good! Go to Mr. Nanami and sign yourselves in! Straight line, remember!” You gave them instructions, seeing them clamber towards the two chaperones. The line was not as straight as you'd hoped, but it was fine enough for a group of six year olds.
Now, onto the matter of the late chaperone and child. You grasped at your phone within your pocket, opening your contacts. As policy, or rather as common sense, you saved all the parents’ numbers onto your phone. You scroll until you find ‘Y’, scanning over the names.
… ‘Yuji's Brother’
‘Yuji's Brother’
‘Yuko's Mother’ …
You frown, when were they two? Probably a glitch. You tapped into one of the names, waiting.
Ring ring. Ring ring. Ri–
“What?” The deep voice that responds makes you jump, absolutely not what you were expecting. This absolutely was not Choso, unless he had a vocal chord surgery or something. In the background, there were sounds of humming cars. Traffic jam, perhaps? You try to maintain a level of professionalism.
“Hi, I'm calling regarding the school trip. I'm wondering–” you were cut off by a youthful voice.
“Gaah– Sukuna! Hurry up! We're late! I'm sorry Miss L/N! Hurry up, hurry up!” Yuji's frantic tone makes you smile, the boy obviously panicked at the prospect of missing the thing he had been looking forward to for months.
“Shut up! Fuckin’ bastard… yea, we're almost here.” The voice, which you took as ‘Sukuna’, mumbled in an annoyed tone. So this was Toji's MMA friend? You could tell why they were friends now.
Thumping sounds were heard in the background, but you ignored them, continuing: “Well, I'm sure Yuji wouldn't like to miss the trip. The coach is leaving in a few minutes, but if you need more time I can talk to the driver for you. How far are you?”
“Stop kicking my seat, you little shit! We're five minutes away, just wait,” the last part was hissed in a commanding tone, a scowl unknowingly painting your face. You already didn't like him, and you were never good at hiding your emotions.
“Well, alright, I'll call you back soon if you aren't here.” Not wanting to hear the rest of the sibling spat between them, you promptly hung up. The blatant swearing, insults, and punctuality. He was going to be worse than Toji.
Instantly after the call, you tap onto your work email, trying to see whether there had been some mixup with the guardians. It wasn't a huge deal, Yuuji was going to get here regardless and the job was easy enough for a teenager if anything. You scroll down to the form submitted by Choso Kamo– only to find that he had pulled out at the last minute, being replaced by a ‘Sukuna R. Itadori’.
Groaning, you turned back to the group, who had been dwindling to around ten kids in line.
“Nanami!” You called, “Can you tell the coach driver to wait a little longer?”
The pitiful look on your face managed to soften Nanami's stern gaze– though not fully. With tight lips, he gave a slight nod. Something told you that the five minutes were not so true.
.
.
.
Fifteen minutes passed before a car pulled near the group. A black Toyota, its slick form resembling a teardrop. You watched as the backdoor flew open, Yuji Itadori beelining straight for you. Backpackless, and without a care in the world, he gripped onto the fabric on your legs as he neared.
“Miss L/N!” He hugged your leg, “I'm sorry! Can I get on the bus–”
“Oi, brat!”
Both of your attentions were pulled back towards the car, the happy reunion making you momentarily forget that there was supposed to be another different person here after all.
A tall man emerges from the vehicle, a tiny Spiderman backpack slung over broad shoulders. Jesus, how tall was he? About six foot, you surmised. He donned a tight black vest, with matching grey zip up hoodie and sweatpants pulled over himself– obviously in a rush, considering the creasing. The man combs through pink hair with his fingers, giving you a glower.
He neared the pair of you, chucking the bag towards the smaller child. Yuji caught it, blowing a raspberry towards him… this was his brother, was it not? In reality, you had completely forgotten that Yuuji had an older brother directly related to him. You've gotten so used to Choso picking him up after school, you've just defaulted to him.
“Miss! ‘Kuna made me late! Blame it on him!”
“Now, now, it's alright. The coach hasn't left yet, but catch up with it now! Who knows, it might just drive off without you now…” You feigned a face of worry as you crouched to meet his height, looking towards Nanami. The smaller of the pink haired duo was alarmed, grasping his backpack and sprinting towards the teacher.
He was too fast for a six year old, you knew that for sure.
Standing to your full height, you face Sukuna, trying to ignore how you comically dwarfed him. Are you short because he was tall, or was he tall because you were short? Such philosophical questions were pushed to the back of your mind as you nodded for him to follow you to the coach. You earn a grunt in response, the muscle bound man starting to walk ahead of you.
‘Alright, you don't like to follow, noted…’ You think.
Trying to make small talk on the thirty second journey, you decide to bring up Toji as a common interest: “I heard you go to the same fighting club as Toji. What was it, boxing?” You purse your lips, thinking. You messed up on purpose to see if that would strain any more conversation out of him.
“MMA,” he answered bluntly. A pause, nothing else came out of his mouth.
‘Alright, the silent type, noted…’ You think.
The both of you arrive at the coach, the driver giving you the most piercing glare you might have ever experienced in your life. It almost made you shudder. Scanning over the bus, you make sure everyone's seated. You assumed Nanami had already checked the kid's seat belts with his methodical nature, but one more pass through couldn't hurt. Letting Sukuna figure out his own seating situation, you walk and check the seat belts until you make your way towards the back, seeing a specific trio fiddling with Yuji's seatbelt.
“Ah, let me do it sweetie,” you took the seat belts and swiftly buckled it, patting it to signify the task was done.
“Thank you, miss,” they hummed respectively.
“You're welcome.”
You make your way back up the coach, looking now for free seats. Nanami was sitting alongside Junpei, trying to break up a squabble between him and Mahito. Toji was sitting in the only lone seat at the very front of the coach, scrolling on his phone. That left you… your eyes narrow.
Next to Sukuna? You just hoped he wasn't one of those people that smelt when you got near them. You sat.
He wasn't, rather the opposite, a subtle cologne filling your senses. Although, his man spread did invade a bit into your space, so you tried to reclaim it by also man spreading– though not as blatantly.
“This ’s to a museum, right?” He questioned, staring at his phone. Glancing at it, you see that he has a privacy screen. Considering the comment Toji had thrown out previously, maybe you didn't want to see what was on his screen.
“Huh? Yea, the national museum. They're all so excited,” you smile earnestly, “especially Yuji. He hasn't stopped talking about it since he found out.”
“Hm, ‘s that so,” he slurred out in response.
‘Alright, the coach ride will be in silence then, noted…’ Your eye twitched. Could this guy at least act amiably? Discarding Yuji and Sukuna's brotherly relationship– which you expected would be at least rocky, it seemed there was not a bone of politeness in this man towards strangers.
You could feel someone's stare on you, intense. Peeking around you, your sight finally landed on Sukuna's red irises boring through you. Did you fuck up somehow, and now he was going to fillet you using his MMA skills? You quickly break eye contact, internally sighing.
Sinking into the leather-bound seat, you tried to distract yourself, choosing to think of all the mess the kids would make during the hour trip. How many would throw up?
.
.
.
Answer: one.
Mahito must have fed Junpei something earlier, because the projectile vomit that came out of the poor kid was not natural in any sense of the word. You almost feared he'd straight up die. Soon calling his mother to pick him up, Yuji and Megumi said bye to their dear friend as he disbanded the bus.
Nanami's pristine suit got, needless to say, utterly demolished. The teacher scrambled off the coach when they arrived, in search of an actual toilet in place of the coach's small dingy one to clean up at. If anything, though, it would be more beneficial to buy a new shirt.
“Take care of them!” He bellowed as he rushed into a nearby bakery, trying not to pay mind to the dirtied water dripping down his shirt.
“Okay!”
Now, to get them off. A task easier said than done.
Thankfully, most of them were capable enough to pry their seatbelts off of themselves, though one or two needed some help.
“It's okay, sweetie, I'll do it.”
Yuji gave you a beam, “Thank y–”
“You can take your own seatbelt off, brat. Don't waste my time,” Sukuna's voice came from behind you, making you jump. Glancing at him, you could tell he was towering over the pair of you– arms crossed.
“It's fine, Sukuna. Yuji's just tired from all that sitting, no?” You coo towards the boy, who nods vigorously.
“Yea! I‘m tired!” Itadori fakes a yawn, and you pinch his cheek: “Let's not go overboard, now. Off you pop!”
Yuji grabs Nobara and Megumi's hands, and rushes off the coach, barging past Sukuna. The action earns a giggle from you, not lost to Sukuna's death stare.
“Let's get off before they all run away from Toji,” you hummed, trying to mutually make your way past Sukuna. He didn't let you pass, stocky frame blocking the way.
You stand for a second, waiting for him to move, before you speak up, “Umm… excuse me.” Trying to slip past between the seats and him, he finally let you go with another hum, this time sounding a bit more pleased. You frown, what was that about?
Coming out of the coach, the children stand timidly at the side of it, Toji watching over them with a bored gaze.
“Y'know, Y/N, I regret this already. This shit is so boring,” he mutters under his breath as you approach. He turns to the other ‘parent’ chaperone, smirking, “I wish you were there last Saturday, y'know…”
Tuning out of the conversation, turning to the kids. Their chatter filled the air, so you rolled your shoulders back ready to clap–
“Oi, shut up!” Sukuna clicked his fingers alongside the bellow, and it all fell silent without a moment's notice.
What… What was this power? It took you months of training just for them to hear your claps and calls for order, but this outsider manages to silence your class at the click of a finger? You stood in awe.
“Fall in line! Anyone out of it will get chucked in a dinosaur's maw, got it?”
As if choreographed, the children lined up perfectly. Not one shoe or hair out of place. You weren't sure if they knew what ‘maw’ meant, but you felt as if the message got through without problem.
He nodded towards the line, passing you full responsibility now. Perhaps, you had underestimated him. You nod back in thanks, a small smile threatening to appear on your lips. Sukuna turns back without a welcome on his lips, looking unimpressed.
“Alright, sweeties! I know you are all excited, but we have to enter the museum quietly, all right? After we all sign in, we'll wait for Nanami and split into groups. C'mon,” you go in front of the queue of children leading them in.
They follow you in, followed behind by Sukuna and Toji still talking– which you humorously think they're a little too like ducklings following their mother. But that metaphor quickly fizzled out when you realised in this situation, you would be the mother. You could never imagine raising them…
The museum had tall roofs, and its pillars resembled an ornate grecian style. Arches weaved above the roof, supporting the building, the interior remaining the modest brown of the brick.
The class looked up in childish awe, eyes shining at the gigantic structure, gazing up at the pterodactyl replicas hanging as if in flight. You manage to quickly check in with the receptionist, and were told that two extra tour guides were on their way.
Nanami soon came back with a new shirt, the plastic wire of the price tag still hanging from the collar. His face was still turned in the iconic stern look, a glint of disgust still evident from the twitch of his lip.
“Groups of five, quickly,” he stated with mechanical efficiency, trying to split the class equally. Without turning, he addressed the adults, “I'll be taking a tour guide with me. Toji, take one too. Sukuna and Y/N will stay together. Take Yuji with you, or he'll run off.”
You didn't even have time to argue back at the pairing, you opened your mouth and suddenly there was a group of toddlers grasping at your feet as if you were some sort of deity. You didn't even have to corral the kids, Nobara and Megumi staring up at you expectantly.
“Let's go, miss!”
“I want to see some Egyptian stuff!”
“Bleh! Boring… Dinosaurs!”
“Mummies! Mummies!”
“ ‘Kuna! Mr. Kento said: you AND miss!”
Yuji was busy trying to pull Sukuna closer towards your shared group. He was quickly pushed off, Sukuna finally rolling his eyes and neared you keeping a few paces behind, his expression a mixture of boredom and (shared) irritation. You didn’t seriously have to spend the next two or more hours with this self-absorbed prick, did you?
“Okay, okay! We're going!" you finally managed to say, smiling despite the chaos unfolding around you.
As the groups started moving, you noticed Nanami leading his group with his usual stoic demeanour, already taking over the guide's job and explaining the historical significance of the museum's layout. You almost felt bad at the despondent look at the tour guide’s face, pouting miserably as they followed Nanami around.
Toji, on the other hand, seemed to have his hands full with a particularly energetic child who was attempting to scale his back onto his shoulders. You worried they were going to fall, but that wasn't an issue when he took hold of the kid by their collar accompanied with stern talking to.
The museum had massive, great pillars at every corner with vast displays. There were sections which you methodically scoured through, first the Chinese artefacts, then the Egyptian– old kingdom and new kingdom split into two different rooms.
You had spent a bit too long reading about a mummy pair, brothers from what the hieroglyphs were supposedly saying, too invested in your own world to realise it had gone scarily quiet. Too quiet for a group of children, nevertheless if that group contained Yuuji, Megumi and Nobara.
Furrowing your eyebrows, you rip your attention away slowly from the mud-stained coffins, as if you were trying to avoid seeing the scene in front of you.
There were two reasons for this silence: someone had gotten hurt, or they all ran off. You especially hoped it wasn't the latter as Sukuna was meant to be watching them, and the register was meant to be done in time for lunch soon…
Your eyes come upon the second reason. Your small group of 5 disappeared into thin air. At least Sukuna seemed to be gone too, hoping that he had simply led them off into the new kingdom room. With a quickened step, you make your way across the hallway opposite.
Nothing.
What? Did they really leave you behind? Your lower lip protrudes as you're in thought, pacing aimlessly further down a corridor. Perhaps they have gone further down, one of them wanted to see dinosaurs, or something along those lines.
“You seen them?” A nonchalant tone asks, followed by a slurp.
“Have I… seen them?” You spit back incredulously, your optimistic daydream of the pink haired bastard looking after the group quickly shattered like glass. He was standing next to a display of old Japanese artefacts further down, avoiding eye contact. Somehow, he found the time to pick up a drink at the museum cafe. Thankfully, you hadn't picked up on this fact, or else you're sure you would have strangled him.
“I thought you were looking after them,” Sukuna states, unbothered by the lazy look in his eyes. He gestures towards the exhibit he must’ve been distracted by, a large wooden sculpture of a god, “Kōmokuten, Heian era of Japan. Interesting?” The last part of the sentence was worded as a rhetorical question, followed by a nod by the man as if agreeing with his own statement.
He continues: “Not interested? Anyway, where the hell are they? I thought you were looking after the–”
“No, you were looking after them,” your angered whisper-yells were countered by a scoff by the pink haired man, sipping the beverage in his hand. You almost wanted to knock it clean out and pour it all over that stupid dyed hair. Actually… was it dyed?
Now that you think about it, Yuuji always seemed to have pink hair too, though the underside was brown. Did they have special brotherly hair dying sessions?
“They’re kids, how fuckin’ far could they have ran?”
Tuning back into the conversation, it was your turn to scoff, “They're fucking kids! They could be on fucking Mars by now for all we know. Oh god, okay… let's follow the hallway down.”
Attempting (but failing) to mask your worry, you bit your lip as you rushed past him and all the– truthfully interesting– exhibits. Another time, maybe. There was a loud slurp, before you heard thudding footsteps behind you.
“Do you even know where you're going?” His gruff voice asks, you can feel his head peeking out from behind to look at the side of your face.
“... Down there.”
“Stop. Fucking stop for a second, jesus. Let's look at a map of this place before you get us lost too.”
Sukuna grabs your shoulders, attempting to pull you back to the hallway you were previously. You wanted to spit some snarky comment about how you weren't going to be in this situation if it wasn't for him, but your tongue caught itself.
You give in, sighing, and trace your steps back to a large display board. Right now, you were in the Japanese section, so if you followed it down– it split into two directions. Not so good.
“They wanted to go see the dinosaurs,” you mutter to yourself in revelation, bending over to see the section on the board lower down.
A loud sip, “Then let's go.”
You turn your head, ready to agree, until you see him nonchalantly texting on his phone. Your eye twitches.
“Put that away,” you hiss, uncaring to try to keep an air of friendliness, “You lost them and you can't even be fucking bothered to look. We have to get them back in at least–” you look at your phone, “-- at least the next 20 minutes. Can you please just help and not act condescending?”
He switches his attention to you, his eyes glaring at you. Unmoving in his gaze, he raises an eyebrow.
“Fine.”
“Thanks,” you spit out, full venom, obviously not thankful. Standing to your full height, you turn on your heel without caring whether the man was following you or not. But the thudding footsteps behind you signified as much.
You passed back by the Japanese displays, taking a cursory glance over them. Really, the statue Sukuna had tried showing you didn't pique that much of your interest. It looked rather, strange if anything. The man must have unique tastes.
As you rush past them, you spot a certain black haired boy staring at a scroll– also from the Heian period.
“Megumi!” You call out, relieved at having found at least one of the children. Sukuna grabs the boy's hand before you had the chance to scold him, and does your job for you:
“Who told you to run off, you brat?” He spits, crumpling the cup underneath his fingers. Megumi, unperturbed by the harsh words (perhaps training he had gotten from having Toji as a father), stared nonchalantly at the taller man.
“They went to go look at the T-Rex, but I said I wanted to see this,” Megumi points towards the scroll, and you look to follow. Sukuna huffs, unsatisfied by the answer but knowing he isn't going to get much more tightens his grip around Megumi's hand.
“One down, four to go,” he glances at you with a humorous tone, but without a smile to match.
You think it cute that Sukuna holds the little boy's hand in such a way, making sure he can't run off. He must be used to Yuuji's antics. Talking of Yuuji, Sukuna doesn't seem to be very nervous at all at the prospect of losing him.
“He's fine,” he states, sharp and short. The twitch in his brow isn't lost on you, however. Megumi yawns, trying to slip out of Sukuna's graso and back into your own– but the man pulls harshly, hissing.
“Don't run again, jesus. These kids…”
With a smirk, you walk ahead of them, “They're probably running from you.”
–
Unfortunately, during your walk– halfway to the ‘dinosaurs’-- the three of you weren't able to spot any other lone children. Or rather fortunately, which indicated that they were still together.
Sukuna had now resorted to letting Megumi piggyback him. The little boy rested his head against salmon-pink locks, eyes closed as if in dream.
“Hey, why haven't you just called the museum staff?” The pink haired man asks, staring at you.
You blink, frowning. You can feel your cheeks burning up, the sensation uncomfortable, “It's embarrassing…”
Your words were barely heard, so Sukuna furrows his brows: “Huh?”
“It's embarrassing,” you repeat, not daring to look behind you.
There was a pregnant pause.
“Who the fuck cares about embarrassing?” He scoffs.
“I do. It's my first proper trip and I've lost them. Plus, I know where they are! What's the big deal!”
Honestly, you don't believe your words. You knew kids, and you knew how small their
attention span was. They could have already switched sections by now, or even wandered out. That sent a chill down your spine.
But for now, you were willing to hazard being irresponsible for the sake of your dignity. Not very good, is it?
“At least it's like a… two minute walk,” you reasoned to yourself. Your steps hurried. In truth, if you didn't find them right now, you were willing to go straight for the intercom. Stupid you–
“Miss!” A higher pitched voice wailed out.

Queer and trans folk around the world often take an interest in the athletes from our community, and Outsports even collects a database of all the the out LGBTQ competitors. While JK Rowling and 99 percent of conservative media were harassing two cis women boxers, 195 QT athletes represented 26 nations and none, but we’ll get to that. That makes this the queerest Olympics ever, beating out the total of 186 out athletes in Tokyo and, if Queer Nation granted citizenships, would be the 14th largest national contingent at the games. That hypothetical Queer Nation would also have placed sixth in the medal count, tying the Netherlands with 15 golds but falling neatly between the Dutch and host country France on the strength of silvers and bronzes.
One happy bit of news is that in both golds and overall medal count, Queer Nation beat out every single country in the world that criminalizes same-sex boinking. The only bad news seems to be that people competing in the men’s events seem a little underqueered compared to the women. Can’t we at least get a few interested in the Greco-Roman wrestling? Yr Wonkette is just asking.
...
Sure, justice in silver and gold for badass bisexual Black woman Sha’Carri Richardson, excluded from Tokyo on the basis of smoking legal weed in Eugene, Oregon, was as sweet as sativa; it was fun to see Diana Taurasi go out on the queer top with her sixth Olympic gold in a row (team USA’s eighth consecutive women’s basketball gold); and seeing the shoulders on those women rugby players was a dream come true. But we want to speak about someone who didn’t represent any country at all: Cindy Ngamba.
Ngamba is a middleweight (75kg) boxer originally from Cameroon. At 11 years old some family members fled to the United Kingdom as refugees, and brought Ngamba along. The family maintains it had the proper approval for Cindy, but that when her uncle returned to Cameroon it was lost. The UK Home Office has been threatening to deport her since the age of 16, when she was accepted to university and realized she couldn’t produce her visa for her college paperwork.
Despite the threats, Ngamba fought and won many times in the UK’s amateur boxing competitions, having started as a hobbyist in the local Bolton Lads and Girls Club program. She also went on to get an undergraduate degree with honors, all while threats of deportation hung over her head. After winning a UK national championship, she met then-PM Theresa May celebrating her win and the efforts of the Lads & Girls Club where she trained. One might think that the UK might eventually forgive an 11-year-old girl for not keeping track of her paperwork herself, but the Home Office has remained resolute denying Ngamba regularized status.
What makes all this both horrifyingly inhumane and also relevant to this article is that Ngamba is an out lesbian. She has been consistently denied a path to citizenship or even legal residency, only escaping deportation because of her ability to document horror after horror inflicted on queer residents of Cameroon. International law prohibits sending a refugee back to their nation of citizenship or previous residence if they would face persecution and risk of great harm, a crime called “refoulement.”
“If I was sent back, I can be in danger,” Ngamba said. “So, I was given the refugee status to be safe and protected."
Unable to represent the UK and unable to compete in qualifying competitions in Cameroon, Ngamba got an opportunity that no other stateless athlete had ever shared before 2016: she was named to the IOC Refugee Olympic Team. So far that team has only been allowed to compete in the summer games, and only in Rio, Tokyo, and this year in Paris. (They will be allowed to compete in the Winter Games for the first time in 2026.) Given the incredible barriers most refugees face, it is perhaps not surprising that no Refugee Team member has ever won a medal. But while Ngamba has faced incredible legal problems and a ruthlessly anti-immigrant government her entire time in the UK, she at least had better training facilities in her local Lads & Girls than most refugees can dream.
And the dreams paid off. Team Refugee got its first medal ever when Ngamba took home middleweight bronze. "I just want to tell every refugee out there, whether they are an athlete or not, to never give up,” she said after being asked to carry the Olympic flag at the opening of the games. When she won, the whole refugee team took to the internet to celebrate:
“The Refugee Olympic Team is incredibly proud of Cindy Ngamba, the first EOR athlete and the first-ever refugee medallist at the Olympics,” the team posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Today, we are speechless. Cindy did it. Refugees did it!”
Yes, yes you did.

The Private (not) Thoughts of a Moray Chapter 3: They say it’s gotten out of hand, and I’m obsessed with you
Gender Neutral Reader x Jade Leech
Chapter 3 preview:
Hmm…maybe they’ll need tutoring? We can be alone then…perhaps in musicology, you’re not a very good singer, are you my pearl? …bitch. You huffed, turning your head to strictly face Riddle and Yev, blatantly ignoring Jade, who seemed confused, but still cooed. Jade filled your head with an image of you pouting up at him, cutely rather than annoyed Are you pouting? What for? Oh, you’re so cute~ Stupid eel, it’s cause of you! Chapter 3: They say it’s gotten out of hand, and I’m obsessed with you
You gazed into your cup as your coffee gradually lightened to a soft cream color from the oat milk, rubbing the tiredness from your eyes, despite the 9-hour sleep from last night, and stared at the young man that sat across from you in the cafeteria.
He was quite taller than many of your classmates, about Sebek’s height if you had to guess, though Sebek had grown a few inches over the summer. He was also fair, but still sported a warm complexion, which complemented his poofy, brown ponytail and dark brown eyes. In his hands, he fiddled with a small, golden necklace with a compass attached to it.
Said man met your eyes and gave an awkward smile and wave, which you (equally awkwardly) returned before turning back to your cup of coffee to gulp it down in one go.
Fuck, fuck that’s hot. Why’d I chug thaaaaaat?
“Ah, are you okay Housewarden (Name)?” He gave you a concerned look. “That coffee was quite hot, wasn’t it?”
You nodded quietly, clearing your throat, “I’m fine y-you don’t have to call me that, just my name or Prefect is fine James.”
Dammit, they told me that earlier! I’m sorry Housewarden (Nsme)! I don’t mean to disrespect!!
You sighed, I really wasn’t physically or emotionally prepared to have first-years in Ramshackle, damn you Crowley.
The student before you was James Bartholomew, Class A-12, and he was an eager, if a bit anxious man. He bore the rose-red vest and arm ribbon of Heartslabyul well, even if he wasn’t currently residing in their dorm.
It seemed that, even with the chaos of last year, Night Raven College was practically bursting at the seems from the large influx of freshmen this year. Nearly 100 more students than average were accepted by the Dark Mirror, with no housing to accommodate.
While Scarabia and Diasomnia were just bursting at the seams with their new students, Heartslabyul, Octavinelle, and Pomefiore were well over capacity. Luckily, Savanaclaw and Ignihyde were still rather spacious, as they had been the last few years, and students were placed in their spare rooms while the others were renovated. Crowley, ever soooo generous, offered your dorm up to the remaining students without consulting you.
James, as well as about 20 others, were said students.
“Good morning!” chipper, crisp voices piped up from behind you, interrupting the poor freshman’s internal panic attack.
Three more young students, triplets each sporting the deep midnight violet of Pomefiore, smiled cheerfully and waved synchronously. Despite being triplets, they looked remarkably different.
“It’s us!” the one on the left began, “Wynfred!” He was average height, with short curly red hair that held two small braids with a golden moon holding emeralds, which framed his face. He was the palest of the three, covered in freckles and had sharp green eyes. Wynfred gestured to the sibling on his left.
“Marion!” A short, maybe even more so than Riddle, man spread his arms up in joy as he shouted his name. Marion was more tanned than his sibling, and had softer, rounder features which included his droopy brown eyes. His hair was held up in a high ponytail braid, where the end held the same charm as Wynfred, replacing the stone with jaspers.
“Silas!” The last shouted, jumping in front of their siblings, ignorant of their hands smacking into their faces. Silas was the tallest, fair, and had wide, light blue eyes. His hair was long, held in a half up-down do, with his hair band holding his matching moon charm decorated with an amethyst.
Once the former two composed themselves, all three spread their arms out in theatrical fashion, before answering in synchrony, “The Salson Brothers!”
…Why the fuck are they introducing themselves like that?
Stifling a laugh at James’s face, who seemed equal parts intrigued and disturbed at the triplet’s dazzling entrance, you instead cleared your throat and faced all four students.
“Hello (Name)!” the triplets answered all at once. “Hello James!”
Oh, they are so fucking weird.
“Hi everyone, how’s lunch treating you?” you stifled a laugh at James, and looked at the clock. “We have about an hour and a half! So we have some time to eat, and you can ask me anything you want regarding your classes.”
Clapping your hands together, you gestured for the triplets to sit at the table. While they did, you offered Grim part of your sandwich, who happily scarfed it down.
Mmmmmhhh! Soooo yummyyy~
Marion and Silas sat next to both sides of you, while Wynfield had taken the seat next to James, who still looked mildly uncomfortable. Taking another bite of your sandwich, you clasped your hands together before speaking.
“I’ll get it out of the way, I know Ramshackle isn’t the most glamorous of all the dorms—” you paused, sighing, “—it’s barely been a fully equipped dorm for a few months…”
It’s not too bad! We all get our own rules since there’s no one else! Silas seemed the most chipper of the tree, if his thoughts were anything to go by. I like the ghosties, they’re funny!
“As the…housewarden,” saying the words felt foreign. “I will do my best to make sure you’re all comfortable.”
You shifted your eyes to stare at your hands, which were wringing nervously.
“I am a sophomore, a year your senior, and I am one half of a student with Grim, who you all met last night.” You looked up and smiled apologetically, as your familiar dozed off in a food coma.
“I’m afraid he’s rather food motivated, but I promise that he’s quite fun to be around.”
Gesturing your hand to the first freshman, you asked, “What’s your name, since we’ve yet to hear yours?”
EEK!
Jumping in his seat, said young man straightened nervously and took a deep breath.
“I’m James Bartholemew! I’m from Neversea Harbor, on the western edge of the Queendom of Roses!”
He took a bow, stopping midway and instead sitting back down out of embarrassment.
“Sorry, force of habit…”
Wynfred stood up, and fluffed his hair before continuing, “I am Wynfred Salson, from Shalem, a nation out west across the sea, as are my siblings.”
Gesturing to the two across the table, two brightened and giggled.
“I’m Marion Salson—” his sibling interrupted
“—and I’m Silas Salson! Hehe!”
Smiling at the trio, you nodded, noticing a second pair of students join your table. These two were Octavinelle students. However, You weren’t sure if they were human. Apparently, it was rare for fae and merfolk to leave their homelands for a place like NRC. Azul once told you that merfolk, while fond of the stories like the mermaid princess, were at their core homebodies that were deeply attached to their homeland and wary of the surface. You remembered asking him why he and the twins had been three of only 5 merfolk at the school at the time.
“Human and merfolk relations have significantly improved in the last few centuries, but most still aren’t fond of needing transformation potions to consistently upkeep their legs. A visit once in a while is fine, but the paperwork required to simply receive a potion permit for non-magic users can take months. For those that stay longer, like the twins and I, it’s akin to a medication, lest you want to see us grow webbing and gills?”
You wouldn’t have been aware that the two were mermen if they hadn’t mentioned it. The smaller one of the pair was a tan young man just over 5 foot, sporting a slicked back black and gray undercut. Despite his height, the young mer was quite muscular and intimidating, sharp, and dark brown eyes that seemed to stare right into your soul.
They probably would seem so if the following words didn’t tumble out of his razor-sharp toothed mouth.
“Your buddy's lookin' sharp today, Prefect! ou ain't gonna slip in a good word for me, are ya? Cross my heart, I know how to treat a dame proper!” he drawled, sliding himself in between you and Silas while draping an arm over your shoulders.
“Mmph! T'ony, y'ur elbow's i' my face!" Silas whined, attempting to push against an unmovable object.
Dame? Who—oh.
“Do…you mean… Epel?” you gestured at your friend who was currently sitting next to your usual group as he carved an apple into a spade for Deuce (who was delighted).
“You see, a looker like her deserves a tough guy like me!” And, well, I can't do a pretty thing like you any favors. “Mama always raised a gentleman, so—”
You raised your hand up, interrupting him mid-sentence. Can’t do me any favors? What?
“You do know that Epel is a guy, right?” you paused, giving you both a moment to look at Epel, who noticed and gave a happy wave.
Waving back, you continued in a quieter voice, “He’s not fond of being mistaken for a girl, or being called cute, so mind your volume.”
Oh, she a he…
Tony paused for a bit in contemplation, before he made a sound of dismissal. “So, that a 'no' on introducin' me to him, or what?”
You snorted back a cackle, covering your mouth as giggles managed to escape you. You nodded at Tony, patting the surrounding arm in affirmation.
“I’ll introduce you, no worries.”
Tony faced the rest of the freshman and began to introduce himself, “What's the word? Tony Lombardi 's the name, but you can just call me Jaws.”
Like the movie? That’s a bit spot on for a shark-mer.
Grinning, Tony barred his rows of pointy teeth that could rival the Leeches and snapped his jaw at James, who blanched at the sight.
“That's how the crew back home knows me.”
Ridiculous, idiots the lot of you!
You turned your head to look at the other Octavinelle freshman, who was as exasperated as his thoughts sounded. He was taller than average, built like a beanpole with how skinny he was. While he didn’t have any outwardly remarkable features that clocked him as another other than human, his light, wavy coral pink hair and light green eyes weren’t exactly common for even the most colorful humans in Twisted Wonderland. He also sported a beauty mark under his lip on the right side of his face, along with several soft freckles spread throughout his face.
Meeting your eyes, the man scowled and raised his brow at you.
What are you looking at? Stupid human.
You quickly looked away from him, though you could hear his growing complaints.
Stupid humans with their stupid faces, I had to hear everyone talk about you all summer. You can barely do magic, what are you even doing here? The headmage should’ve thrown you out to sea to drown if he had any brain in him.
Seemingly sharing a sixth sense for his friend’s animosity, Tony reached over to yank the unnamed fellow down to settle between you and Marion.
“Hey, don't be a jerk, be a stand-up guy and say hello and introduce yourself proper.” Letting out a nasally laugh, Tony moved to whisper into his peer’s ear, just loud enough for you to hear,
“Unless you're itchin' for me to spill the beans to your big bro—”
Tony was shoved off as the young man cleared his throat and straightened his uniform, “My name is Aspen Albamar, I’m a freshman in Octavinelle.”
Curt and to the point, can I go now?
Wynfred made a face as he eyed Aspen up and down, as said freshman followed in kind.
“I saw that you had a transformation potion,” he started, ignoring Aspen’s sputtering noise. “You sure don’t look like an obvious merperson, what kind are you—”
“T-that was in my nightstand! W-why are you looking through my personal items?!” Aspen angrily hissed, his cool facade fading rather quickly.
What is wrong with you???
“That’s not important, answer my question—”
“I will not! It’s none of your business!”
Wynfred rolled his eyes as he was interrupted again. So hostile! I was only asking a question!
Interrupted by an intentionally loud cough, you sighed in relief at the sight of your five friends.
Jack was looking between Aspen and Wynfred as their small spat was paused mid-exchange, before opening his mouth, “Hey, (Name), how’d being a housewarden treating you? These freshmen giving you any trouble?”
Gasp! A dog! Silas perked at the sight of Jack, visibly in awe, to which the wolf beastman was oblivious to. James, on the other hand, stiffened in front of Ace and Deuce, who you remembered were technically his upperclassman.
You found the idea of your two boys being a “shining example” of Heartslaybul morals laughable.
“Hi guys, no it’s fine Jack, we’re just getting to know each other,” you gestured to each of the boys as you introduced them, “This is James, Wynfred, Marion, Silas—dear please don’t touch Jack’s tail—Tony, and Aspen.”
I still have like 15 other students’ names to memorize, geez.
“Guys, these are my friends, Ace, Deuce, Jack, Epel, and Sebek!” You beamed at them as they all greeted the freshman with various ‘hellos’ and ‘what’s ups’. “Jack and Sebek are actually vice-housewardens for Savanaclaw and Diasomnia, too!”
E-eh? Vices??
James looked close to puking while Silas still attempted to swat at Jack’s moving tail, their brothers looking amused. Tony, on the other hand, was quick to throw his arm over Epel’s shoulders, who looked visibly confused.
“Hey there, doll. Names Tony, but you can just call me the dreamboat you've been waitin' for~” he cooed, either oblivious to, or blatantly ignoring Epel’s souring mood.
Jack, Deuce, and Sebek all made noises of confusion, while Ace snorted in amusement.
Eh? What's this feller reckon he's doin'? If he don’ mosey on outta my space, I'll just have to give him a good ol' nose-thumpin'...
Epel looked ready to snap at the other man, while Ace made eye contact with you and thought, I bet you that the frosh’s gonna get launched out the window in 30 seconds.
Before that could, thankfully, occur, Tony yelped as Aspen reached over to pull at his ear, dragging him away from the now amused Epel.
Aspen bowed his head politely and smiled at his upperclassmen. “I apologize for this brute’s behavior.”
He sided-eyed Tony, who was now whining about his ear, still currently pinched between his fingers, hurting.
“I’m afraid he skipped his land training camp, so he’s not aware of the differences of courting culture for surface dwellers”
Ace let out a cackle before covering his mouth after Jack harshly elbowed him in his stomach. Deuce shared a look with Sebek as Epel turned pink in a flustered anger. You could hear Deuce mutter something to Sebek about short people getting ‘angry real quick, huh?’
“Well, here’s a lesson then,” Epel grumbled shaking a finger at Tony like a mother chastising her children, “Humans don’t tend to enjoy people who invade their personal space and call them names. So unless you want to get beat up, I suggest you respect that.”
Aspen and Tony both perked up, sharing a look before smirking and looking back.
“Ah, well, some of the more predacious merfolk do enjoy a good bit of roughhousing with their mates.” Aspen chuckled as Tony continued.
“Yeah! So fighting one of us for flirtin’ probably wouldn’ help.” The two giggled as Epel sputtered and grabbed onto your arm.
“Ain’t chu their housewarden?” Epel hissed under his breath, “Tell them to quit with the teasin’! I’m their upperclassman, they should respect me!”
You patted Epel’s hand as you murmured some words of comfort to your friend.
I should probably send Tony off to his next class, if just for your mental state.
Giving your freshmen a smile, you asked, “Say, I believe some of you have your history class next? Why don’t the others take you, so you can find the best seats?”
Meh? When did everyone get here? Grim yawned, awoken from his post-lunch nap as he climbed Deuce’s shoulder.
“Oh good timing, Grim!” The familiar perked up, still waking up from his early afternoon food nap. “I think we split up for this next class, why don’t you take James, Aspen, and Tony with you, Ace, and Deuce to Trein’s class?”
Why do I have to watch over a bunch of newbies? The Great Grim’s too great for something so little!
Ace and Grim groaned as you continued, “I’m pretty sure it’s on the way to your guys' duel class?”
You batted your eyelashes at the ginger, who rolled his eyes and gestured for the three to follow him. Yeah, yeah. I’m coming over tonight to eat your snacks though.
Jack nodded, catching on to your plan. “We can take the other three over to Professor Kallpa’s botany class!”
The triplets stood to follow Jack, Silas still focused on the swishing tail, though he stopped trying to grab it. Wynfred and Marion started to excitedly ask Epel about Vil and “what was it like having THE Vil Schoenheit as your housewarden?” Epel deflated.
You sighed as both groups left the cafeteria, looking up at Sebek who met your eyes with a firm look.
Now, now. No time for resting! You’re a housewarden now!
Before he could open his mouth to reiterate this into words, you interrupted with a stretch. You could feel a satisfying pop from your spine.
“Hey, Sebek, you wanna walk with me to the third-years’ halls? I gotta meet Riddle there, we share the advanced potionology class.”
Wonderful! I’d expect nothing less from the Young Master’s human! I should’ve never doubted his choice in friends!
“Of course! I can tell you all about the Young Master’s time back in Briar Valley! You know, you missed quite a lot after your visit! For example, did you know…”
You smiled and nodded along to Sebek as he rambled about Malleus’s time back home. Particularly about the amount of times he simply disappeared from the castle, causing a massive ruckus until Silver found him admiring a new gargoyle added to the north tower.
A few minutes in, you saw Riddle walking into your path from the adjacent hall. He perked up upon seeing you and smiled, nodding politely at Sebek.
“Hello Prefect, glad to see you coming over early for class,” Riddle turned to address Sebek, “Sebek, I have three more freshmen that have shown interest in the equestrian club, could you please add these names and numbers to the list?”
The half-fae brightened at the prospect of new club members and nodded, taking the sheet of paper from Riddle’s hands and placing it in his folder.
“Wonderful! I will be sure to send those reminders out tonight! I’m sure any self-respecting student would jump at the chance to join our club!”
Beaming, Sebek noticed the clock on the wall and bowed his head goodbye to you and Riddle. “I must be heading off to my next class, I will be sure to send out the reminders for the first meeting, Riddle—Oh!”
“Prefect!” Gave you a stern look as he continued, “I will be coming over this weekend to start our weekly call with the Young Master. I expect you to put everything else on hold for him! I will see you after class.”
Riddle gestured in the direction of your shared potionology class, which was right down the hall.
“Shall we? Now that you are a housewarden, I expect you to set yourself as an example for our freshmen as well.” he asserted.
I’d expect nothing less of my favorite junior. Perhaps I should give you your own special seat at the unbirthday parties?
You chuckled out, “Of course, Riddle. Your freshmen have been particularly nice, I imagine you gave them a veeeery stern talking to before they came to me?”
He huffed, holding the classroom door open before he followed you in.
“I simply told them that, unless they wanted to lose their heads, then they’d do best to treat your word as doctrine.”
Ah, that explains James’s behavior, maybe I should tell him to take it back down a notch—
My pearl! Please wait right there for me, I must find a seat right next to you!
You looked up from your peripheral vision and made eye contact with the 6-foot bane of your existence. Jade gave you a small smile.
Darling!
Immediately grasping Riddle’s arm in a crushing grip, you yanked him to follow you to a pair of seats in the middle row, a student already in the spot next to your right, leaving Riddle to sit in the only available spot next to you.
Yelping as he tripped over his feet and the desk chair, Riddle gave you a glare as you looked at him “innocently” in your newly, self-designated spot.
“Look Riddle, seats right smack dab in the middle of the middle row! Isn’t this nice? We can see the board at, like, the optimum view now!” you gave the less than amused Riddle a nervous smile, looking at Jade as he entered the room rather coolly
He was wailing in grief.
Noooooooooooooooooooooo, darling… why didn’t you wait just a bit longer…
“I believe,” interrupting your focus, Riddle crossed his arms as we softly muttered, “the middle of the row would be better for our academics, as—”
“Nope!” You interrupted, looking at the doorway which was now missing the shorter Leech. “Right here is fine, yessiry, take a seat. Take a seat. Right next to me.”
Riddle blinked. Huh.
“Right there.”
Are you alright, Prefect?
“Sit. Now. Please?”
Okay…
Riddle took his seat next to you, looking more confused than annoyed now, as you sighed a sigh of relief.
Listen to you sigh. You sound so tired, what’s exhausting you my love?
You stiffened, trying to pinpoint from where Jade’s thoughts were coming from.
You do look oh so delightful in your uniform! Those are new slacks, I did like the skirt, but they fit you very well. Ah! And your cute little dorm ribbon, it’s wonderful—oh, I should say something about it, then I can have your attention.
“Hello Prefect, how—”
“SAY RIDDLE!” You shouted, drawing your companion’s attention, as well as everyone else in and entering the classroom in an attempt to avoid any manner of interaction with Jade
What a weirdo…
I wonder what’s with the Prefect?
Quiet the fuck down.
“U-um, say, Riddle,” you said softer, cheeks turning pink as you smiled at him sheepishly.
I do cherish you so, but what is wrong with you my friend?
“Do you want to make some sort of schedule with me to—uh—make sure your students come and do their dorm duties and stuff?”
Yes! Good excuse! Sorry-not-sorry, Jade! I gotta do housewarden stuff with Riddle, no time to talky-talk! Nope, nope, nope!
“Ah! Great idea (Name), I couldn’t have suggested a better one myself” Riddle brought out his phone and started scrolling through a folder labeled ‘Freshman Schedules,’ showing it to you.
“I was considering reworking the dorm duties shifts to make it so that the Ramshackle students would work less during the school week, but make up for it by working extra during the weekends.”
Riddle continued to explain his new shift system as you nodded along, attention flitting between him and Jade, who you noticed out of the corner of your eye was sitting in the spot right in front of you.
Aaaaaaaah! I’m sitting in front of (Name)! I just wanna turn around and stare. You do have three of our students, yes? Perhaps I can use that excuse to speak with you! I can even ask you to meet me in private to discuss the details, oh~ It’ll work so perfectly!
An image of you and Jade alone in what you thought was one of the private rooms in Mostro Lounge, lip locked and heavy petting each other flashed through your mind.
“Jade, we’ll get caught here if we—Aaaah~” Jade was down on his knees, licking soothingly on the bite he’d left on your thigh while you ran your fingers in his hair. “Mmh, and? Everyone will know you’re mine then~” In response, you yanked Jade up to crash your lips against his, falling backwards so that you both fell on the couch with him on top. The two of you giggled against each other’s lips as you unbuttoned Jade’s shirt, hand gliding down his chest and reaching—
You covered your cheeks in your palms, shaking the scene away as if it was a bee hovering over your face. You rested your head in your hands, trying to pay attention to what Riddle was saying. Something about making two students head of the freshman, one for Ramshackle specifically.
I’ll ask you now! Yes, then I can whisk you away. Riddle seems just about done talking anyway.
The devil may speak in tongues, but he also speaks cruel truths, as Riddle ended his explanation. “Yes, I have a few students staying with you in mind to be the Heartslaybul leader at Ramshackle, let us meet tomorrow for the unbirthday party to work out schedules and choose one of those students.”
You nodded, bracing yourself for the inevitable. However, it never came. Voice or thoughts, all was silent in front of you, though you didn’t dare move your gaze in front of you and test the sand.
…Ah my heart is racing at the thought…are my palm’s sweaty? Is it just me or did they look scared seeing me earlier?
You took out your notebook and magipen, adored with a mauve gem that matched the one on Grim’s collar, and started to write the date and class subject on the first page.
What should I say? Humans aren’t fond of spontaneous love confessions, so I have to work into that… It would be strange if I spoke to them too casually. Oh dear, this is a dilemma.
You relaxed, as mean as it might be, you were relieved that Jade seemed to be too anxious now to really have a conversation with you.
“Hello Prefect, since you were discussing it with Riddle, may we speak about managing the few Octavinelle students you have in your care?”
DAMMIT! GOD-FUCKING-DAMNIT!!!
You looked up, still cursing Jade in your head, and gave him a small, but polite smile. “Sure, Jade, but it’d probably be better for Azul to be involved, about I come over later this week to meet with him? Could you see if he’s available?”
Jade, nonchalantly as ever, gave a polite smile and nod.
“Of course, I’ll be sure to speak with Azul tonight and have him reach out with a scheduled time.”
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
“I’ll send him a text, but based on the schedule I have, how does Thursday evening sound?”
Why don’t we discuss it! Alone! Just me and you, my pearl. I’ll even show you the makeshift greenhouse I built, you’ll just love it!
“Sounds good, I’ll only stay for a bit though! Gargoyle studies club is then and someone has to keep Hornton’s club up and running you know!”
You thought you could see Jade’s eyebrow twitch at the mention of Malleus, but before he could speak, the sound of Crewel’s wand whipping in his hand echoed in the room. Everyone drew at attention at the professor,
“Good afternoon pups, welcome to Advanced Potionology and Magical Pharmaceuticals. Today we will start by reviewing the syllabus and my expectations for this class.”
Crewel handed out small stacks of papers, you assumed the syllabus, to the students at the front rows to be passed out behind them as he continued.
“Seeing that you all needed extraordinary marks in your previous potions class and final exams in order to place in this class, I expect nothing but the best from you pups.”
As Crewel continued to explain his expectations, you saw Jade turning to hand you his stack. Pursing your lips, you reached over to take the papers, the tips of his fingers ghosting over yours ever so slightly.
You recoiled, papers in hand, like you’d been shocked and nodded at him. Jade on the other hand was absolutely elated as his hands ever so slightly shook in excitement, hardly noticeable, turning back around to face the board.
AAAAAAAAAAAA! CUTECUTECUTECUTECUTECUTECUTECUTECUTECUTECUTE—
You took a deep breath as you handed the stack back, trying to ignore the flood of infatuated thoughts from in front of you. You also decided to ignore the sudden images of you in maid lingerie.
Seriously?
“Each of you should have received a syllabus by now. For the structure of this class, we will be splitting you into groups of four, let’s see here…”
Crewel began naming off groups of four, waving his wand to rearrange the seats and tables for the groups, cauldrons, tubes, and similar items floating from the nearby closet and setting on. It kinda looks like a chemistry classroom now.
The first few groups set themselves up at their new tables, while you perked up hearing your name.
“Riddle Rosehearts and (Name) (Last)” you and Riddle shared a happy look, sharing a smile. “With Jade Leech and Yev Quispe.”
YES!
Your smile dropped, a nervous look replacing it, much to Riddle’s concern.
“Are you alright (Name)? You look a bit nervous?” Riddle placed a hand at the small of your back as he guided you to your new seating lay out.
“It’s just Jade and Yev, you've met Jade before and Yev is very polite, if a bit full of himself.” Riddle whispered the last bit to you, making you giggle your nerves out.
Crewel smacked his wand-whip for your attention again. “Once you’ve settled into your groups, start with a class introduction, become familiar with your group mates, as they’ll remain the same for the year.”
Clearing his throat, your red-headed friend took the lead.
“My name is Riddle Rosehearts, Heartslaybul’s housewarden.” He gestured to the student next to him, which happened to be Jade.
“You both already know me, but for our new friend here-” Jade politely nodded at Yev, who returned the gesture. “I am Jade Leech, vice housewarden for Octavinelle.”
Yev puffed his chest out, gracefully gesturing his hand to his chest.
“I’m Yev Quispe, I was recently placed as Pomefiore’s housewarden, I do believe we had few interactions the last two years, so it’s a pleasure to met you.”
Yev locked eyes with you, smirking as he eyed you up and down.
And then there’s you.
“And I’ve yet to be properly introduced to you, the infamous Prefect. How about you introduce yourself?”
It’s you! My little pearl! You chose to not glance at Jade.
You nodded politely, responding a bit shyly, “Hi, we met at the check in, but I’m (Name) (Last), I-uh-skipped a year aaaand I guess I’m Ramshackle’s housewarden? Hehe…”
Despite the proximity between Riddle and Yev to you, Jade’s thoughts overpowered them,
(Name)’s class introduction…their voice was… really cute. Their moans are probably really cute too.
“Aaah~ R-right there Jade! Your mouth feels—mmf~”
You shut your eyes tightly, rubbing your temples and eyes harsh enough that you could see spots spattering across your vision.
God I wish I could turn this off.
“Uh, Prefect?”
“Yes, Riddle?” you sighed, dragging your hands down your cheeks.
“Are you alright?”
You held an ‘okay’ symbol with your hand. “Yep, what were we talking about?”
Riddle explained the class schedule for the semester, pointing out when certain papers and projects were due and working out a meeting time for your group.
As the class continued, everyone’s thoughts mellowed out a bit, even Jade’s own. For the most part, your peers were focused on figuring out their plan for their groups and work. Surprisingly, there were very few thoughts about things like ‘what’s for dinner?’ or ‘I wanna take a nap after class today.’ or even ‘this class is boring as hell.’
Maaaan, I’ve been hanging around A-Deuce and Grim for too long, I forget everyone in this class are a bunch of high-strung overachievers.
You looked at Jade who was currently taking notes down as Riddle and Yev discussed (argued more like) about whose schedule should take priority.
“Our meetings must be after 5:00pm! Rule number 345: Croquet must never be played after 5:00pm-”
“I’m sorry, but I’m not privy to follow the ridiculous rules of your dorm.” Yev sneered at Riddle’s angry flush. “I am not available after 5, I have a very strict self-care routine that must not be interrupted-”
The two continued bickering, cursing each other out in their heads.
You pompous fool! Ridiculous? What’s ridiculous is you and the “secret” lab that everyone knows about! How is it secret when everyone knows about it!?
Who gives a damn about your 810 rules? One of them is contingent of a hedgehog sneezing, and I’m being ridiculous?
Your eyes kept darting between the two, slightly amused. It was like watching a game of tennis, where one thought the ball was hit just enough out of reach for him to win the match, just for the other to jump over and continue their fight.
As they continued, you decided to daydream a bit and listen in to the other students and your professor. It seemed that Crewel was thinking about stopping at Sam’s at the end of the day for some treats for one of his dogs.
Genghis has been a bit lethargic lately, maybe she’d appreciate a new snack…something heart healthy for her though so nothing processed.
A few of the students were thinking about what they’d have for dinner, one of the Scarabia students was lamenting about being put on chopping duty by Jamil.
He’s gonna make me chop everything again I just know it! He always says I do it wrong, why does he keep making me do it then?
You hid your amused smile behind your palm as you rested your head against it. You decided to look at Jade, whose thoughts were rather quiet at the moment.
Jade was still dutifully writing down notes, of what at this point, you didn’t know. He also was amused at the two housewardens still bickering, albeit less heated now.
“May I suggest we meet during study hall?” Jade asked, drawing the other two’s attention. “I do believe they overlap for us, do they not?”
Yev shook his head and gestured towards you. “Not for the sophomores, don’t you have a morning study hall, Prefect?”
“Oh, yeah and I kinda need study hall anyways to catch up on all the practical magic stuff.” You replied sheepishly.
“Of course,” Riddle chimed in agreement. “It’s to be expected since you didn’t grow up in Twisted Wonderland.”
Yev rolled his eyes, while Jade’s focus was shifted to you once more.
Jade filled your head with an image of you pouting up at him, cutely rather than annoyed
Are you pouting? What for? Oh, you’re so cute~
Stupid eel, it’s cause of you! Stupidstupidstupidstupidstupidstupidstupid—
“Prefect!” Riddle called for you, startling you out of your inner rant. “Pay attention! I asked if you had another suggestion for a meeting time?”
“Oh, um,” you cleared your throat. “Maybe during lunchtime? It’s the same for everyone, and we’ll be heading over here anyway soooo?”
Riddle nodded in agreement while Yev shrugged and replied, “I suppose that could work, I do have a private ‘lab’ of sort we could use-”
“Is it really private if everyone knows about it?” Jade asked, looking amused at a now visibly annoyed Yev.
“Do you want the room or not?!”
“We’ll take it!” You and the other two exclaimed together, right as the bell rung for the next class.
“Alright pups!” Crewel spoke up over the bell as you and the other students began to pack up. “I do hope you and your group had a productive discussion, tomorrow we will review the class schedule and start our first module! Have a good day pups.”
You could here the internal groans and whines of some of your classmates. Quite a few spent the class time straight up arguing with their group, not unlike Riddle and Yev.
Damn it, why’d I have to sit next to these dumbasses???
Crap, we just talked about our partners and dates, maybe I shouldn’t’ve grouped with friends?
A shiver down your spine alerted you to Jade’s voice before you even heard it, like you were developing a sense for danger, much like an arachnid superhero from your world.
Perhaps I should ask my pearl on a date? Yes, ease into it with a study session first, then we can follow up with a dinner at the lounge, I’ll make Floyd cook it.
You froze in panic, images of the two of you transitioning from a normal, admittedly nice dinner to the both of you wrapped up in each other’s naked bodies in his bedroom.
Yes, I’ll lock him out of his room if he doesn’t agree.
Contemplating the best escape plan, you clumsily stacked your notebooks and pen in your arms, locking on Riddle as your savior.
“Riddle—”
“Ah, apologies Prefect,” Riddle started to walk away as he looked at the time. “Could you message me at the end of the day? My next class is in the wing across the castle, and I must leave now if I’m to make it on time. Goodbye!”
Ah, good then perhaps I could escort them to class in his stead? Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Jade approaching you.
Fuckfuckfuckfuck, what’s that other asshole’s name? Yev!
You turned to ask Yev if he would walk with you to the next class. “Um, Yev could I—”
Ugh, what do you want? Yev smiled at you and gave a “sympathetic” look.
“I’m sorry, could this wait until tomorrow? I must be getting to my next class.” He waved you off as he walked away and called over his shoulder, “I’m sure whatever it is, you can handle it, after all you’re the ‘Ramshackle Prefect’, ta-ta now!”
Shit! No, please! I don’t care if you’re an asshole, come back!
“Oh my Prefect, did you want someone to walk with you to your next class?”
Startled, you looked up at the teal-haired man, who loomed over you with a glint in his eyes and his usual smile. You could tell he was holding back from just giving you a gleeful grin.
“Ah, no! It’s fine,” You started to stutter as you waved your hands around, “I have to go to alllll way to the botanical gardens, l walk by myself—”
Jade interrupted you as he placed a hand on the small of your back to guide you out of the classroom. “It’s no trouble at all, I’m heading to the fields for flight class, so it won’t be out of my way at all.”
Aaaaah! Cute! My cute little (Name)! So small, so soft, you’d look smaller even if you were on top of me…
No touchy! Nope! I’m not encouraging this at all!
You slightly sped up your pace, placing a small distance between him and you as Jade daydreamed about your thighs spread across his lap, arms wrapped around his neck as he shoved his face into your neck.
“If you say so…” You quietly replied, moving so that you were walking side by side instead.
Jade seemed disappointed at the lost of contact, but content to be by your side.
We do seem like a couple right now, don’t we? After all what gentleman wouldn’t escort his beloved to their destination?
You stayed silent, hoping that the lack of conversation would deter him. The crowd of students in the hallways dispersed as you exited the castle onto Main Street, leaving you two alone minus a on or two other students.
Ah, just the two of us, this is the perfect time to ask them out!
Taking in a sharp breath, you braced for the words you dreaded to come out of Jade’s mouth.
Yes…
You waited.
…Any moment now. I’ll ask.
Sam’s shop was in view, thus the spot where you two would spit was coming up.
Hmm…my chest…hurts? Why is it hard to breathe?
The gymnasium was in view now. You peered at Jade from the corner of your eye. He still looked as nonchalant as you’d come to expect.
This is fine. It’s not as if they’ll say no…probably. Ha…it’s very hard to breath now. Is this what drowning feels like? Why am I dreading this? I want to ask them out! …Right?
You cleared your throat as you walked away and into the direction of the gardens. “I’ll be heading over here, uh, see you tomorrow?”
Jade nodded and gave you a pleasant smile as the sounds of screams and sobs echoed in your mind.
“Of course, I look forward to working with you Prefect, have a good day.”
CURSES! DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT! WHYYYY—
You quickened your pace, almost jogging, as you heaved a sigh of relief.
Finally, god I can’t wait to lay down and just pretend I never heard any of that!
“Aw, come on! Spill it!” Ace pouted as he lay across your bed, throwing one of your pillows in the air to catch.
He must have some freaky thoughts! Tell me, I wanna blackmail him!
“No???” You looked at him in disgust, trying your best to not throw your history book at him. “Especially not for blackmail, what do you think he’s gonna do to you if you try and blackmail him?”
Deuce, tiredly eyes boring into his mathematics homework, replied in agreement, “Yeah, what do you think he’s gonna do? Laugh and say ‘you got me’?”
Uuuuuuuuugh you two are boring!
Ace threw the pillow at Deuce. “I don’t know man, I just want a leg up on him, I’m still not over the anemone thing, you know.”
You sighed, watching Grim through the window as he tried to show his prowess on the broom to one of the Scarabia freshmen in your care. Wincing as the broom zoomed out of his grasp and he splat face down into the ground, you slid down your armchair and crossed your arms over your head.
“I’m tired of this already.” You whined, opting to ignore your homework, rather walking over and flopping ontop of Ace on your bed. The ginger softly shrieked, turning into a starfish underneath you.
Of homework? Cause mood. Deuce nodded sympathetically, daring to look back at the question he’d been stuck on for the last 10 minutes.
“Mmpht! Th’t’s w’at y’ get—mmft git opp!” Ace shove you off him as he continued, “That’s what you get for being nerds, hehe!”
Kicking your friend, you made yourself comfortable as you took a pillow and rested your head, arms crossed underneath it.
“Not about school, dipshit, I mean the telepathy.” You murmured, eyes closed. “I don’t want it anymore. I’m tired of it, it lost its appeal. Can you take it?”
Ace snorted as he rested next to you and started scrolling on his phone. “Nah, I’m good, Deucey?”
Huh? What? Deuce perked up, blinking in confusion. “What? Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.”
“Take the mind reading! I’m sick of it! Someone else can deal with y’alls thoughts.”
Deuce made a sound of understanding, getting up to stretch his arms and legs before walking over and patting your back.
“Uh, I think I’m good, if Jade is any indicator of the people in this school, I don’t think I could be mentally well hearing all that.”
You opened an eye to glare at Deuce. “… And you think I can?”
Deuce held his arms up in surrender, awkwardly thinning his lips in response.
“I just mean that, it came naturally to you, you know?” Deuce decided to sit on the ground and lean against the bed, tilting his head to look up at you.
“You got magic, then the mind reading? Maybe you’re meant to have it.”
“Oh yes,” you drawled sarcastically, “I’m meant to listen to each whine, complaint, mindless thought that everyone has, oh and don’t forget every horny man’s dirty thoughts! That’s especially important!”
You huffed, turning on your back and crossing your arms.
Aw, (Name) I didn’t mean it like that, don’t be mad. Deuce turned and rested his chin on the edge, giving you a puppy-eyed look.
“I just mean that, there’s probably something great you’re meant to do?” Deuce grunted as you smacked a hand on his head before ruffling his hair. “I don’t know, just looking at the bright side.”
You hummed in response shrugging. “Maybe, who knows, not me, not Crowley. It’s just super fucked man, how ‘m I suppose to react?”
Blackmail, duh?
“Ace! Shut the fuck up about the blackmail, man!”
Ace kicked your leg, to which you responded in kind. The two of you began exchanging kicks until you both of your feet were planted against each other. Pushing against each other’s foots for some weird form of dominance, the three of you started giggling.
What the fuck? Deuce took his phone out to record as he laughed, “You two are so weird.”
The laughter grew as your left foot gave out, allowing Ace’s right leg to kick you off the bed. You gave a short scream as you fell on Deuce, still giggling.
“HA! I win! I claim this bed as my prize!” Ace crawled over to look over you two before letting out a panicked yelp as you and Deuce yanked him down to join the floor.
The three of you calmed down, sprawled out on the floor. Ace asked, “Does he actually say anything to you? Jade, I mean.”
Humming, you looked at Ace and scrunched up your face. “Eeeeeh?”
“‘Eeeeeh? What does that mean?” Deuce asked.
“I mean, he acts and speaks the way he did before…he was gonna try and ask me out, but…”
But? Ace and Deuce’s synchronized thoughts created an echo in your brain, which seemed ironically empty after studying.
“I think he’s…scared? To ask, I mean.” You made a sound of pity, pursing your lips. “It was…kinda sad actually? Now that I think about it.”
“Huh.” Ace hummed while Deuce mimicked your pitying sound. “He is just some guy, I guess. A scary, monster looking guy, but still just a guy.”
That does sound kinda sad, actually. He always seems so self-assured. Deuce clicked his tongue and spoke out loud.
“Maybe he’s scared of rejection? He kinda seems like the type of guy that was never told no, growing up.”
“Ha,” Ace snorted, “probably because everyone was scared he’d eat them if they did.”
“Yeah.” You replied in faux sympathy. “Just like how your girlfriend broke up with you ‘cause she was scared of the kids you’d produce with your ugly ass face.”
You and Deuce started laughing at your offended friend. The laughter grew as he flipped you off.
“You know what, I’ve decided I no longer sympathize, I hope he literally thinks about every single weird kink in existence with you, you fuck face.” Ace pouted as you two continued to laugh.
Your laughter died down as you heard a knock on the door. Clearing your throat you called out, “It’s open, come in!”
The Scarabia student from earlier, poked their head in and smiled nervously.
“Hi, uh, Prefect? Grim got knocked out…he ran into the tree trying to show us a Spelldrive trick.”
The student entered, true to their word, cradling the now limp familiar as they placed him in your outstretched arms.
“Also, one of the other Scarabia students, Yakub, finished making the dinner you suggested! They wanted me to call you down to dinner too.”
You smiled and nodded, grunting as you and the other two got up from the floor.
“Thank you, I’ll be down shortly, you two,” You pursed your lips at Ace and Deuce. “Should he back to Heartslaybul, Riddle will probably be back from his club soon, don’t want to get in trouble so soon.”
Ace snorted as he grabbed his backpack from the nightstand. “Look whose talking! Dear ‘I broke an ancient chandelier on the first day of class’ Prefect.”
“That was also you, though??” Deuce gave Ace an incredulous look as he packed his stuff.
Gods up above, why is he like this?
You chuckled, following the two as they walked out to the front door.
“Ah, what would’ve I done if that never happened? I’m actually pretty grateful that turned out the way it did.” You smiled fondly.
I never would’ve met you two if I didn’t.
The two looked at you, needing no powers to know what you were thinking.
“Aww, is this where you confess your love to me?” Ace grabbed your shoulder and looked at you with a serious face.
“Just so you know, I’m only into hot people.”
“Okay, goodbye!” You shoved Ace out of the door, waving as he and Deuce walked towards the Hall of Mirrors.
You sighed, still cradling Grim in your arms as you cooed down at him, “Let’s get you some food, I’m sure you’ll wake up once you smell some yummy din din!”
Locking the front door, you greeted the 20 freshman in your dorm. Silas, who decided to help with the cooking, noticed you and handed you a glass of what you presumed to be the apple juice Epel left you.
“Here (Name).” He gently pushed you to the front of the dining table. “Give a toast!”
You chucked nervously as you obliged. “Alright guys, let’s christen our first evening at Night Raven College with a meal!” You smiled and raised your glass.
“Ramshackle students or not, I am happy to be your housewarden this year. For however long you stay, may this old dorm bring you nothing but luck and cheer in your first year! Let’s dig in!”
The group shouted in merry agreement as you took a slip of your drink, unaware of the glower coming from the coral-haired man in the corner.
Forgoing dinner and leaving the room in a huff, Aspen stomped into the room designated to him and three others. Muttering to himself, Aspen dressed down into his pajamas, before taking out a journal from his nightstand.
“I’m going to prove to everyone what a sham you are,” He snarled, furiously writing something down. “Then, no one will have any reason to admire you, let alone like you!”

ALEJANDRO ALONSO (ALES)
born on June 2019, 5 years of age
likes dinosaurs, toy cars, legos, and construction work
likes to eat ice cream, alonso's special tacos, and a specific pizza that yn makes
likes long walks on the beach with his father and mother
likes to add grass in his lego builds
currently raising a succulent with his father, they named it avi

playmates with lewis and nico's daughters
his godfather is lance, yn's cousin
YNLONSO — FORMATIVE YEARS
met through lawrence stroll back when yn was volunteering in the medical bay at a few races
alonso would fake injuries just to go to the medical bay whenever he can, and often skipped meetings just to take a few peeks at yn
alonso became extremely jealous when someone else crashed and was brought to the medical bay, so he began to pray for everyone's safety so they don't have to meet yn
when called for mandatory check ups, alonso would always look for yn and hog her for the whole day
the grid became increasingly curious about alonso's relationship with you, despite your attempts in keeping the relationship private
broke up once after a nasty crash in 2016, yn couldn't bear seeing alonso in pain especially since she was the one treating him
yn is a date to marry type, and found a future in alonso when they got engaged in 2018
their first date was in a parking lot outside the hospital when yn was still an intern for residency, and alonso surprised yn with tacos during a night shift
once, alonso planned on surprising yn but she was stuck in a long surgery, so he fell asleep waiting for her
alonso would always stop by the hospital after races and meetings just to see yn and talk to her even if it's just a few seconds
yn prefers it when alonso was in wec due to less racing schedules, also because alonso won the year she gave birth to ales
had a mutual split much to alonso's pleas after he came out from retirement in 2021
started co-parenting at the beginning of 2022 when ales and yn moved back to spain
frequently drives to each other's house and has a spare key of each other's front door and gate
alonso kept yn as his emergency contact even after their split, so she was still getting updates from alonso
yn and alonso both use lance to get updates about each other, and use him to play messenger, which lance didn't really like at the beginning, but now he's holding a lot of their secrets
their weekly routine with ales includes walking to the beach, having one lunch outing, one dinner date and a trip to the grocery
speaking of groceries, they go buy groceries together so ales has the same food in both households
it's also customary for them to invite the other for a meal when picking up ales, but really it's alonso being a mastermind to spend more time with yn
currently, alonso is trying to make it work with yn, and is contemplating on leaving after the 2023 season to be with them

God Complex | One Shot
Natasha "Phoenix" Trace x f! surgeon! reader (no use of y/n)
You're a trauma surgeon resident, studying at a bar when you're approached by a woman who steals your focus.
warnings! Slight dom!Phoenix, suggestive, drinking, not proof read
“Bite your lip any harder and I’m going to have to kiss it better,” A rich, feminine voice pulled you out of your textbook. Studying at a bar had been a tip your dad had given you. He said that real doctors don't have the luxury of a quiet and controlled environment all of the time and studying in such a crowded space would hone your focus. Except with just a few words, this woman had shattered your focus.
Standing in front of you was the most gorgeous woman you’d ever seen. You swallowed hard. The woman was in a tan, Navy uniform that was tailored to perfection, with dark hair slicked back into a tight bun. She looked amused as you squirmed under her dark gaze, unable to form any words. “Tell me your name, baby girl.”
Your response was instant, cheeks burning red under her gaze. The woman repeated your name like she was testing how it rolled off her tongue.
“Everyone calls me Phoenix,” She stepped between your knees, her citrus perfume filling the space. Your head spun like a top, full on gay panic setting in when Phoenix’s hand rested on your bare thigh. “But you, baby girl, can call me Tasha.” You nodded, unable to think of anything but how close this insanely hot woman was and the way her thumb was brushing the inside of your thigh.
“Tasha,” You whispered. Tasha grinned, squeezing your thigh.
“Are you going to be a good girl and let me buy you a drink?”
Again, your response was immediate.
“Yes,” Tasha eyed your can of soda.
“Is there a reason you’re staying sober so far?” You shook your head, pushing your textbook to the side. Suddenly, studying wasn’t so important to you after all. “Good. You seem like the fruity drink type, am I right?”
Another nod. Honestly, you would have drank straight whiskey if Tasha spit it in your mouth and by the look on her face, she knew it.
“Okay, then you sit here and look pretty while I get us both a drink.”
“Holy shit,” You breathed, air finally filling your lungs when Tasha was out of ear shot. “Holy shit, is this really happening?” You pinched yourself, pain shooting up your arm. It was real. Very real.
“Tell me about yourself, baby girl.” Tasha returned to the high top table with a beer and a fruity looking cocktail.
“I’m a trauma surgeon resident, that’s um, that’s why,” You pointed at your textbook.
“Ooh, so not only is my girl smart, she’s also an adrenaline junkie.” You flushed, sipping on your cocktail. You hadn’t received this much attention at once in a long time, it was overwhelming.
In college, you had been the life of the party, but medical school and interning had burnt you out. Outside of your fellow residents and the occasional nurse, this was the longest conversation you had had in months.
“Why did you focus on trauma?”
“When I was an intern, there was a period in time that I thought about quitting,” You tapped your fingers nervously against the table, “I was so tired, I was barely sleeping or eating. I just didn’t want to do it anymore, the day I was going to quit, there was a massive traffic collision on the highway.”
The memory of everyone rushing around, preparing for the incoming influx of patients flashed through your mind. God, you had been so anxious and excited. You wanted to puke, scream, and celebrate all at the same time.
“There were so many people and so many injuries I’d only read about, I had to make so many split second decisions. The residents were there but they could only do so much supervision, I was holding people’s lives in my hand. It’s better than any drug, that feeling of control.”
“God, you should see the look on your face right now,” Tasha reached out, cupping your cheek. “It’s so hot that you love your work so much.”
“You don’t think I have a God complex or something?” All surgeons had a God complex, even if it’s a minor one. You held people’s lives in your hands, their lives depended on your skills and knowledge. It was as exhilarating as it was daunting.
Tasha licked her lips, dark eyes filled with lust. Her attention and touch stirred something in you, warmth spreading through your body until it felt like you were burning for her.
“Baby, if you’re God, I’ll get down on my knees for you every day.”
“Fuck,” You groaned, the tension between you finally snapping. Tasha’s grip slipped to the back of your neck, pulling you across the table for a demanding kiss. The angle made it hard but her lips were soft, tasting of cherry lip balm. Tasha tugged your hair, tipping your chin to deepen the kiss, her tongue caressing your own.
“You taste sweet, baby girl,” Tasha licked at your bottom lip, pulling back when your lungs demanded air. You were dazed, barely hearing the wolf whistles directed your way. “Ignore them, I always do.” You glanced, spotting a group of men in uniform.
“Friends of yours?”
“We’re pilots, guess you could say we’ve all got a bit of a God complex too.” You giggled when Tasha kissed you, the cheering starting up again like you had your own personal live studio audience. “I can kick their asses if you want me to.”
“Or you take me home,” You smiled, taking her hand off of the table and resting it on your thigh. Tasha squeezed your thigh and you bit down on your bottom lip.
“Now what did I tell you about biting that lip, baby?”
a/n: hope you like it! I've got a headcannon that Phoenix is the biggest flirt when it comes to women, just putting all of the men's game to shame.

𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 [𝟏𝟑]
𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘅 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿
𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: NONEEEEE WE CHEERED.
𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁: 2.3k
𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲
sm entertainment officially announced ningning’s hiatus one month after her arrival at the rehab center.
they said she was taking time for herself in order to focus on her health and wellbeing. most people had no idea where she had gone.
dispatch had no sightings of her for weeks. they did not even know when she was at the hospital either, to which everyone was thankful for. the company was shocked to know that the chinese idol was willing to get sent to rehab.
however, despite the initial shock, they offered to pay for all the expenses and also said she could take all the time she needed in order to get better.
the truth is bulletproof, there's no fooling you
i don't dress the same
yizhuo needed to be away from the city. she needed to be somewhere where she could find who she truly was. geoje was where the company decided to send her. it was a 4 hour drive from seoul, making it just far enough for her to get away, but also close enough for people to come visit. the city was right off the coast of busan, situated on an island connected to the mainland via bridges.
she would hate to admit it, but part of her never wanted to leave geoje. it was beautiful, and she felt like she could be herself within the sanctuary of the rehab center. it was a bit difficult at first, opening up to complete strangers about her issues, but she was willing to try her best.
that was all anyone expected of her here — to just try her best.
she had never had that environment. it felt nice to have such a change. it felt right.
me and who you say i was yesterday
have gone our separate ways
most of the people who arrived at the center were older than she was, meaning they had no idea who she was. there was an older woman who worked as an instructor for an art class that the facility offered, and whenever ning would go in and draw, she would sing.
she had told yizhuo that she should become a singer when she gets out because her voice was outstanding. all the chinese girl could do was smile and laugh a little.
it was ironic for her. she used to love being known by everyone as “ningning from aespa”, but here she loved being unknown. when she arrived, she said she was an international student studying korean language at yonsei.
it was a believable cover story, and no one questioned it. the anonymity was a relief. she could walk around without the weight of her idol identity.
there were no fans to impress, no expectations to meet, no cameras capturing her every move.
she could just be yizhuo, a young woman finding her way back to herself.
left my living fast somewhere in the past
'cause that's for chasing cars
days at the center had a gentle rhythm. mornings began with a communal breakfast, where she’d chat with the other residents, exchanging stories of their pasts and dreams for the future. after breakfast, there were various therapy sessions. she found solace in group therapy, where she realized she wasn’t alone in her struggles. the stories she heard, though different from her own, were a reminder that everyone had their battles. in the afternoons, she often joined the art class.
the instructor, mrs. lee was her name, was a kind-hearted woman in her sixties, with a voice that was both soothing and encouraging. she felt more of a mother to yizhuo than her own had. her words of praise and encouragement made ning feel seen, not as an idol, but as a person with potential beyond her public persona.
it was different to have someone so maternal, but she thoroughly felt better. whenever it felt difficult to open up, she would talk to mrs. lee. she had a way of listening that made yizhuo feel understood, without judgment or pity. the idol realized all she ever needed was someone who wouldn’t pity her.
turns out open bars lead to broken hearts
and going way too far
the two became closer when the older woman found her crying after her first few sessions of therapy with the facility’s psychiatrist. mrs. lee never asked any questions, and simply just embraced the younger girl in a tight hug until yizhuo’s tears stopped. from that day forward, ning went to mrs. lee for everything.
“you're stronger than you think,” mrs. lee would often say, her aged eyes filled with kindness. “you’ve done well. only you can be the best version of yourself, for yourself.” these words resonated deeply with the young idol. she began to see her journey not as a series of failures, but as a testament to her resilience.
she was ning yizhuo, a girl who did the best she could. and that was all she could ever want to be.
take one, pour it out
it's not worth crying 'bout the things you can't erase
on days when she felt particularly overwhelmed, yizhuo would take long walks along the coast. the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks was therapeutic. ning had never been a fan of beaches (mostly because of the sand), but upon arriving in geoje, she fell in love with them.
at first, she would just walk to the steps that led down to the sand but not descend. she’d only lean against the railing and watch the water from above, not wanting to touch the sand. the rhythmic ebb and flow of the tides calmed her, the vastness of the ocean making her own problems seem smaller, more manageable.
like tattoos and regrets
words i never meant and ones that got away
but as days turned into weeks, she found herself longing to be closer to the water. one morning, she took a deep breath and made her way down the steps. she hesitated at the bottom, toes just inches away from the sand.
with a determined sigh, she stepped onto the beach, feeling the grainy texture beneath her feet. the initial discomfort faded as she walked along the shore, the cool water lapping at her ankles. it became a ritual for her—each day, she’d venture a little further, letting the sand and sea become her sanctuary.
she began to see the beach not just as a place, but as a metaphor for her own journey—constantly changing, yet always moving forward.
left my living fast somewhere in the past
and took another road
the young woman found herself collecting different things from each trip to the shore. on some days it was a small rock, and others it was other things.
she often collected seashells to save them for you. they were like little pieces of happiness for her, just like you were.
sometimes, she’d even sit on a large rock by the water’s edge, watching the waves crash and retreat. one of the gifts you had given her before she left was a digital camera. without missing an evening, ning took photos of every sunset.
it reminded her of you, after all. it was only fair of her to show you.
the beach was quiet. ningning hated the quiet before. now, she loved it.
quiet meant she could breathe. she had control of her thoughts and emotions. she no longer let her mind bully her.
turns out crowded rooms empty out as soon
there's somewhere else to go, oh
visitors were allowed to come once a week, meaning most of the time, her members all came to visit her together. of course, she didn’t have a visitor every week, but sm made sure to keep these visits out of the public’s prying eyes when you or her members did come and visit.
karina usually brought her new stationary, minjeong brought snacks, and aeri would bring her new sd cards for her camera or clothes for the seasonal changes. although ning was away from everyone she knew, she never truly felt lonely.
she had made peace with her isolation. however, the only person she constantly missed was you.
she’d never thought of ever writing a letter, but she was over the moon when she saw you had written her one a few weeks after she was sent to the facility. mrs. lee teased yizhuo by saying she’d never seen her really smile until she saw her reading the letter. ningning missed you more than she could understand.
it wasn’t a bad feeling of longing either, but rather a feeling of curiosity for what you were doing at the moment. before she had left seoul, you had mentioned to yizhuo that you had broken up with aeri the night she was hospitalized.
ningning didn’t need to ask any questions about it, she knew why it happened. you cared about ning. more than anyone else, or anything else.
and she cared about you, too. more than anyone else, or anything.
i know i used to be crazy
messed up, but, god, was it fun
after being in rehab for 6 months, ningning was finally comfortable enough to return to seoul.
on her last day there, mrs. lee had brought her a gift. it was a beautifully wrapped box with a note attached to it. the note read, “for the journey ahead. with love, mrs. lee.” ning carefully unwrapped the box, revealing a set of watercolor paints in a case with her initials on it.
mrs. lee smiled warmly. “i thought you might want to continue expressing yourself through art. remember, these are tools for your journey, just as much as your voice is.” tears welled up in yizhuo’s eyes as she hugged the older woman tightly.
mrs. lee must have known who she really was. the idol decided not to question it.
“thank you for everything,” she whispered. “i’ll never forget what you’ve done for me.” mrs. lee simply patted her back gently. “go out there and show the world who you have always been. and never forget, you’re always welcome back here if you need to escape.”
i know i used to be wild
that's 'cause i used to be young
the facility threw the young idol a send off ceremony the day before she was leaving. there were games and delicious food, and even karaoke. naturally, yizhuo stole the show with her voice. mrs. lee had been taking photos and videos for the chinese girl on the camera you got her. even though rehab was tough, ning didn’t ever want to forget her time here.
“i’ve learned a lot here. thank you all for helping me remember who i truly am.” yizhuo said with a warm smile as she bowed, concluding her parting speech.
the applause that followed was heartfelt, and ningning felt a sense of closure and gratitude. the friends she had made and the experiences she had shared in geoje were now a part of her story, a chapter she would cherish forever.
as the evening wound down, yizhuo mingled with the staff and residents, sharing hugs and promises to keep in touch. later that night, she found herself back at the beach for one last walk. the moonlight danced on the waves, creating a serene scene. she took out the camera and captured a few final shots, wanting to hold on to this moment forever.
with a deep breath, she whispered a goodbye to the ocean, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. she was ready to move forward, but she would always carry a piece of this place with her.
those wasted nights are not wasted
i remember every one
sm entertainment had expressed their excitement in regards to yizhuo feeling well enough to return to seoul. she was a bit nervous for facing the public and their questions to where she had been, but one thing the idol had learned was boundaries.
she didn’t have to tell the world where she had been. only the people who needed to know, knew.
ningning didn’t bring her phone with her to the facility. it was something the facility had requested before her initial arrival. it was quite the laugh when the chinese girl showed up with a mp3 player. however, the idol was thankful she downloaded as many songs as she could have because the upcoming 4 hour drive would be a bit more boring without it.
a car pulled up to the curb, and for a moment ning was confused. she couldn’t see who was inside because of the tinted windows, but when the passenger side window was lowered, she couldn’t help but smile.
i know i used to be crazy
that's 'cause i used to be young
you smiled and ning swore she was about to throw up from excitement. she practically bolted inside with her backpack and duffle, almost hitting her head on the roof when she got inside.
“hey, stranger,” you greeted her warmly, your eyes twinkling with joy. “ready to go home?” the chinese girl nodded, feeling a rush of emotions. she had missed you, she had missed seoul, she had missed her members.
“more than ready.”
you tell me time has done changed me
that's fine, i've had a good run
“you didn’t forget anything, right?” you teased as you set the car into drive. the idol laughed at your remark before pretending to feign thought. “hm,” she hummed as she tapped her finger against her chin. “just this.”
ningning leaned over the center console and gave you a quick kiss on the cheek.
your cheeks flushed with a warm pink, and you couldn’t help but smile and roll your eyes playfully. “definitely not something to forget,” you replied, feeling a happy flutter in your chest. with one hand on the steering wheel, you took the other and intertwined your hand in the idol’s.
“let’s go home.”
i know i used to be crazy
that's 'cause i used to be young

Dinosaurock of Visulahti makes a comeback next summer - organising the festival are Jurassic veteran Mikko Jokipii and Jonna Vuolle from Mikkeli
Original article writte by Anssi Mehtälä for Mikkelin Kaupunkilehti, published 19.11.2024.
A dream had for many years of many live music lovers in Mikkeli is about to come true next summer, on on the 15th and 16th of August to be precise.
Mikkeli will then once again host a rock festival, and in what many even consider to be the only right venue too, Visulahti Travel Center.
On Friday and Saturday, around a dozen domestic and foreign artists will perform in Visulahti, of which about half will be announced at this stage.
Among others, Stam1na, Ismo Alanko, Bloodred Hourglass, Sexmane, Irina, Saimaa, Mokoma, Etta and Eevil Stöö will be coming to Visulahti.
One international guest has been confirmed so far: Joker Out, the Slovenian indie rock band that made a name for themselves at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023.
The band has since visited Finland, performing for instance twice at the Tavastia club in Helsinki and at Ruisrock last summer.
“We are still looking for two or three international performers. The essential thing is that they'll strengthen the festival's repertoire” says Mikko Jokipii, one of the festival's creators.
The festival carries a name that can only be described as legendary, Dinosaurock.
The organiser is a joint-stock company of the same name, founded this autumn and backed by Jurassic Rock's long-time background figure Mikko Jokipii, who is also a film producer, Jonna Vuolle from Mikkeli, and Mikko Linnansaari, who has extensive experience in festival production.
“Our goal is to create a great event for the people of Mikkeli, a celebration of life and joy. It will be a medium-sized rock festival with lots of fun things to do.”
“As a Mikkeli resident, I feel really great to be able to create an event like this with great professionals” festival's producer Vuolle sums up.
“There has been a tremendous amount of positivity about this everywhere.
Let's take a look at the festival history of Mikkeli.
Dinosaurock was a festival organised by the live music association Melmu in Visulahti between 1987 and 1990. It revolutionised Finnish festival culture with its high quality, diverse lineup and relaxed atmosphere.
The Jurassic Rock festival, on the other hand, was held from 2007 to 2018, first in Visulahti and then in Kenkävero.
The new Dinosaurock can be seen as a continuation of the work of Jurassic Rock, which many still fondly remember. So why the name Dinosaurock?
“Dinosaurock is the original rock festival from Mikkeli. We want to honour that, it simply felt better to return to that name” explains Jokipii.
“Additionally, the name Jurassic Rock is now owned by Sanoma Group. It’s better that it stays there” Vuolle adds.
“In any case, our Dinosaurock aims to be liked by both Dinosaurock and Jurassic Rock visitors” Jokipii sums up.
The two-day event is being built in line with its predecessors, as a warm-hearted event.
“Visulahti has always been important to me. It was the number one aspect of Jurassic Rock and once the venue was moved to Kenkävero, the event wasn’t the same for me anymore” Jokipii says.
Visulahti will have two stages, a bigger and a smaller one.
“The planning of the festival area is already underway. Now we are scouting the best possible locations for the stages and other infrastructure” Jokipii says.
Services will cater to even the most demanding audience.
“The time has changed quite a lot since the early years of Jurassic Rock when it comes to festival services. At the same time, the customer expectations have risen regarding the quality of food and drink sales, accessibility, and VIP services. We are working hard on these aspects in collaboration with Visulahti” Jokipii reveals.
The organisers are pleased with the reception the festival project has received. The preparations were started well in advance.
“At the beginning of summer 2023, I was in contact with Mikko for the first time, when I got the idea of organising a music event in Mikkeli.”
“Due to Mikko having a busy schedule with films, the idea was left to simmer and the serious planning of Dinosaurock began this spring with the first meetings in Mikkeli” Vuolle explains.
“It feels like Mikkeli’s music scene now has a space for at least an event of this size” Jokipii describes.
“People everywhere have been incredibly positive about it. Ticket buyers, concert organisers, bands, everyone has been totally like, “Yeah!” And yes, the word ‘legendary’ has come up quite a few times” Vuolle laughs.
This positive reception has also convinced the organisers that the project is worth pursuing.
“If the feedback had been more along the lines of ‘meh, I’m not sure’, we probably wouldn’t even be talking about Dinosaurock right now” Vuolle says.
Mikko Jokipii and Jukka Holmstedt were posing with the Visulahti dinosaur in 2007. (Ph: Taru Hokkanen)
Next summer, the organisers of Dinosaurock expect to attract approximately 5000 people per day.
“It’s a modest goal. But we want to create an event that grows sustainably, if it grows, and that it can be organised practically, repeatedly, and every year” Vuolle notes.
“The program is curated so that every performer matters. And, of course so that the selection is diverse and interesting” she concludes
Dinosaurock’s ‘Aikainen Lisko’ (early lizard) tickets are now on sale today, November 19, 2024. A limited number of tickers are available here.

Holding onto you
Pairing: Callie Torres x reader
Summary: not sure lol… there aren’t enough Callie fics and throughout the show she had some pretty rough relationships, so here’s some fluff for the Dr. Torres. It’s kinda nothing then smut then fluff, this will be a multi part story!
Warning: Smut!
******************************************************** you pulled your car into the long drive way climbing out and fumbling to find your house keys.
you opened the door and looked around the house that was eerily quiet all the lights were still out. You went around flicking on the lights, “Callie?” You called but no answer.
“Callie, baby are you here?” No answer so you walked back out and saw her car sitting in your shared driveway.
“that’s weird, where is she?” You whispered to yourself and crept your way up the stairs. You peaked in your bedroom and then saw the note taped to the door, big trauma I was called in, welcome home my love.
You had been away for a conference but decided that you were ready to go back to work so you changed your clothes and made your way to Grey Sloan. The storms were raging as you drove to the hospital, rain beat down on your windshield, you parked and ran in through the front doors. The receptionist at the desk perked up, “how can I help you?”
“Hey…” before you could finish she recognized you and directed you to the OR where Callie was currently operating. You quickly thanked her and ran to change into a clean and dry pair of scrubs.
as the elevator doors slid open you stepped through straightening out your clothing with your hands, you made your way to the gallery only to be greeted by a curious group of interns watching your wife operate. You sat down next to the group, “so any updates?” you asked and started talking to the small group. Part way through the conversation one of the girls recognized you, “Oh my God… your Y/N Devine like doctor Y/N Devine!”
“well yes and no” you chuckled with a small smirk.
“What do you mean yes and no?… I’ve watched your techniques, I tried to get into Harvards program just to study under you.”
“way to suck up there Jo…” some of the other girls scoffed.
“well I mean yes as in I am her same person same skills but no as in I’m married now so I technically hyphenated my last name but I don’t ever go by that or Devine anymore… Also I would like to clarify that I no longer teach at Harvard I accepted an attending position here.”
“Are you the new head of trauma?” A red haired woman spun around.
“Yes ma’am.” You gave a small grimace and smile.
“No that’s a good thing, April Kepner I’m actually one of your residents.” She reached her hand out and you shook it.
“Good to know.” Just then Miranda Bailey stepped into the room and all the interns shot back forward.
“Ahh Miranda Bailey, she’s still got it.” You laughed.
“Y/N Devine-Torres, does your wife know you’re up here?”
“I don’t believe so, looks like she’s tapping out though so better go find her before someone else does…”
“go getcha girl, good to have you back.” She laughed as you left. All the interns shocked at the fact that your “wife” was none other than Dr. Calliope Torres.
you ran down to the locker room where you figured she would be changing. You knocked on the heavy wooden door, “knock knock anyone home?” You asked playfully slipping in. You found her pulling her shirt over her head next to her locker, which held a couple pictures of you and her, Sofia, the three of you along with her stethoscope and a few other necessities. She turned to you and made a sad face letting out a whine and letting her shoulders drop.
“I’m so so sorry that I couldn’t be home…”
“I know baby I know.” You said pulling her into an embrace placing kisses on her lips.
“rough night?” You whispered in between kisses.
“you wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”
“Mmm so don’t tell me just let me take you home, relieve some of that stress… that tension.” You said running expert hands over her strong arms and shoulders.
She bit her lip, her eyes darkening by watching yours, “whatever you say… Y/N Devine” she said all airy and mocking the girls earlier.
“that is Dr. Torres to you.” You said placing a bruising kiss on her lips.
the car ride home was quiet, you could feel the gentle anticipation coming in waves. You parked and walked up to your shared house gently leading her through the door. Setting all your bags down keeping an eye as she went into the kitchen, you walked up behind her hands massaging the muscles ghosting kisses on the back of her neck as she leaned her head back into you. You grabbed her hand and guided her upstairs to your bedroom, grabbing her shirt and pulling her close, starting to strip her clothes pulling her closer and closer until she was completely bare, letting your hands grasp at her curves and muscles quick breathes and smirks shared in between heated kisses, you ran skilled fingers all over her body before pushing her back her knees meeting the bed.
“looks like someone couldn’t wait for me to get home.” You said slyly.
“your my wife of course I can’t wait for you to get home… she said suggestively, as she scooted back the bed, you were on all fours over her heated kisses being trailed across her body. For awhile you made out letting your hands roam the heat intensifying as you kissed every part of her body.
“Y/N, mi amor.” She whined as you nipped at her neck then replacing the bite with a kiss.
“yes my love?” You asked moving down to her chest nipping the soft skin and then placing kisses, leaving a kiss right in between her breast while looking up to make eye contact.
“I need you…” you worked your way back up to her mouth, your hand sneakily going between her legs, fingers ghosting her inner thigh.
“mm, what do you need love?”
“Uh…” she inhaled sharply with a whine, “you I need you.” She exhaled into your kiss, your fingers sliding through as you felt how wet she was.
“what she wants she gets…” you left one more bruising kiss before sliding down in between her legs, you didn’t waste much time and it wasn’t long before her moans filled the room. Your hand pumping as your mouth worked wonders, before you knew it she had hit her high. As you placed kisses up and down her legs she sat up pulling you into her lap, you wrapped your bare legs around her and she could feel how wet you were, how much you ached.
“You know I always knew you had that last name for a reason… Dr.Devine.”
“mmhm, too bad I changed it.”
“must’ve been a special one.”
“yeah, more than special, she’s pretty amazing, the ONE, the only one.”
She chuckled, “well then… my turn, show you how amazing I am…” she said teasing you her hand sliding in to give you more teasing action. She turned and laid you on the bed your legs still wrapped around her waist, you unhooked them, still holding with your knees as she got up.
she walked over to the closet and was digging until she pulled out the strap, you but your lip as she walked back over to you, she sat next to you pulling you back into her lap, one hand was on her face as you kissed her while the other held onto the top of the headboard.
at first she moved slowly grinding into each other but before long she had you on your back legs over her shoulders as she railed you, loud moans filling the room, good thing your neighbors weren’t to close by.
“mi amor, absolutely beautiful, if only I could put a baby in you, see you glow as you carried our baby.” That sent you over the edge.
A little while later you found yourselves wrapped in each others arms legs tangled, the bed in disarray, you laid your head on her chest as she held you.
You were being quiet, Callie reached over brushing some curls out of your face, “Y/N what’s on your mind?”
“Hmm..” you pulled out of your daze.
“where did you go?”
“no where.”
“you’re being quiet… what’s wrong?”
“nothings wrong, just thinking.”
“About what baby?”
“Well,” you said sitting up next to her, she looked up at you until she saw how nervous you were, scooting up to prop on the headboard next to you.
“baby what’s wrong?” She said getting more concerned, she ran a gentle hand over your leg as you faced her.
“were you serious?”
“about?”
“the baby, me being pregnant?… with our baby.” You looked into her deep eyes.
“I…uh… to far? I’m sorry if…”
“no, no, I want a baby.”
“really?”
“I mean yea, I know with Sofia and all and Arizona and the whole situation that it’s not easy, but I want a baby I want little mini us’s running around.”
“Y/N is that what you were so nervous about?”
“yea i thought maybe you were just saying it but then i got thinking and…”
“baby,” she said cutting you off, “I would love to have a baby with you, I was serious. You would look gorgeous carrying our baby and I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else, you’re more than just my wife, my best friend, love of my life… and besides Sofia would love having a sibling.” She said leaning up to kiss you.
“so you wanna have a baby?” You chuckled into her kiss.
“yes love I wanna have a baby.” She said placing rapid kisses on your lips and pulling you into an embrace as you both giggled.

Hi I love your work so I thought that i would request something. A meredith one where after dereks death she doesn’t want a relationship so she pushes anyone that is interested in her away. But the reader (male or g!n I don’t mind) comes as an new neurosurgeon and makes her fall in love with them. But Meredith being Meredith feels bad about moving on from Derek and tries to distance herself. So the reader tries to explain and to show her that she deserves being loved and that Derek would want her to move on. You can add some soft smut at the end if you want, like reader is trying to make her feel loved and wanted. (btw sorry for the long request)
You deserve a second chance
Meredith Grey x gn!reader
A/N: hello and thank you! it turned into a kinda one-sided-hate to lovers cause I think it's fitting, also I had to separate this into two parts because it came out too long (part 2 now out!)
Warnings: slight angst, cursing
Word count: 3.1k

-
Everything felt new.
The halls were the same, the rooms were the same, Meredith could map the entire building with her eyes closed and could tell you the quickest route to any elevator or the best on-call room for every floor. That's how much she knew the hospital.
But as she walked through the corridors she couldn't help but feel like a stranger. Every patient she was treating was gone and there were some new faces among the nurses too. Despite her indisputable abilities Meredith felt like an intern all over again.
That's what a year away from everyone can do to you.
But she felt the need to come back, she had to; so there she was, looking at the board to check her next surgery.
"I thought Amelia had a day off" she whispered with furrowed eyebrows, remembering how the Shepherd offered to babysit her kids while she was at work, so the aneurysm scheduled for noon was confusing.
But as she moved her eyes to the doctor's name in charge of the surgery, she felt an unhealthy amount of bile forming up in her throat.
- - - -
"You hired a new neurosurgeon?" it didn't take long for Meredith to find Webber, and talk to him in a way that was too loud to be professional, and too angry to be directed at her boss.
"Meredith" he couldn't say he was surprised, in fact he was almost expecting the outburst. So he asked the resident he was talking to leave them alone before turning to look at her "you know we had to" he already knew what to say
"there's already Amelia. There's no need to hire someone else" her eyes were frantic as they searched Webber's, and maybe somewhere in her head she knew she was being unreasonable, but all she could see right now was her husband being replaced without a care.
"Derek wasn't working here anymore Meredith" Richard kept his tone even, while subtly trying to get everyone's attention off them "you know how many people come to this hospital every day, Amelia couldn't do it all on her own" Amelia, because using the brunette's last name wouldn't be a great move right now. "and (y/l/n) is a very capable surgeon so I want them working here."
The blonde loudly sighed and squeezed her eyes shut "I have a surgery" that technically wasn't a lie, but her main goal was to get out of there
The man watched her leave with a sigh. Hopefully with time Meredith would see he made the right choice.
- - - -
For the next few weeks Meredith avoided you, she saw you talking to your patients, she saw your face, so she knew who to avoid. This was a big hospital, it shouldn't be hard to do it for as long as she needed to, even if that was forever.
But she was never that lucky.
She opened the door to the x-ray room where Amelia told her she would be, her head lowered to look at her patient's scans. "Amelia can you take a look at this, I think-" she stopped mid sentence when she found you looking at her, arm propped up on the armrest of the chair with a curious look on your face. An empty chair next to you.
This was the first time she looked into your eyes.
"you're not Amelia"
"clearly not" you chuckled. The first time she heard your voice. "she just got called into surgery, but you can ask me if you need a consult" you offered, peering at the scans in her hands.
"no it's okay" she shook her head after a second "I'll just wait for her"
"oh I don't think you want to" you interjected, getting up from your seat "she should be in there for hours and if it's urgent you better ask me" you gently took the scans from her and started esaminating them, earning a stern look from the surgeon. "what do you think it is?"
Even though you just asked it to know her opinion, Meredith took that as a sign you didn't know how to do your job. Just what she needed to hate you more.
"an aneurysm." she answered anyway "They brought her to me because she was complaining about stomach pain, but as I was talking to her I noticed-"
"It's a tumor" you stated with confidence, not raising your head from the papers.
"what? no I think-" she started, but you cut her off once more.
"is her vision blurry?"
Meredith rolled her eyes "dark spots around the corner of her eyes"
You quietly nodded to yourself "it's almost touching the optic nerve. We need to operate soon if we don't want her going blind" you gave her the scans back, and she instantly took them "I'll book an O.R. for tomorrow"
She bit her tongue to prevent herself from mentioning that 'we' you used. Instead she nodded, murmured a 'thanks' and got out of the room.
- - - -
"this is an aneurysm, right?"
Amelia's eyes fell on the scans Meredith showed her as soon as she got out of surgery, gloves still on. She gave the woman a confused look, but didn't say anything, and freed her hands to flip through the papers.
"I tried asking (Y/l/n) but they seemed uncertain so I want a second op-"
"nop, it's a tumor" she quickly answered, with the same confidence you showed a couple of hours before "and it's close to the optic nerve, have you booked an O.R. yet?"
Meredith sighed and started following Amelia through the halls "yes, (Y/l/n) did"
"good, then you're all set. Why did you ask me?"
she wasn't expecting Meredith to tell her the truth. She often bragged about her ability to keep her feelings hidden, but she asked anyway.
And she did it this time too "I told you they seemed uncertain"
"you don't like them" Amelia stopped in front of the other woman, almost making her bump into her. She saw the defensive stance the blonde took, and continued talking. "you don't like that they're a neurosurgeon like Derek was, and you don't like that they work here, like Derek did"
Meredith shook her head, not liking the look on the brunette's face. She tried to deny her, but couldn't find an excuse believable enough for Amelia to drop it. So she kept silent.
"trust me, I know because I did too" her voice turned somewhat softer "it took me weeks not to cuss them out every chance I got." she stopped for a second, her old feelings resurfacing "they're not trying to replace Derek, okay? they're just doing their job, and we should let them" she ended with a shrug and raised the scans in her hands "and this is a tumor, so trust them in the O.R."
- - - -
The next day, Meredith reluctantly scrubbed in with you, and let you work on her patient's brain while she worked on her liver. It was a standard procedure on her part, so she had no problem in keeping an eye on you from time to time.
Your hands were steady and your eyes were focused, never wavering from your work, your voice soft as you talked to your resident, explaining your steps to him and asking him questions.
Your voice held the same softness whenever you tried to make small talk with Meredith, and every time, she shot you down. She didn't sound particularly rude - Amelia's words echoing in her head - but she wasn't craving to chitchat.
- - - -
It was only when the patient was discharged that she willingly started a conversation with you.
"thanks for the help, by the way" was all she said, so gently you thought she was talking to someone else. But you shook your head and smiled at her regardless, claiming it was a pleasure. She offered you a polite smile, and went off to do her own thing.
From that moment on you started talking more and more each day, and it wasn't always job-related.
You started hanging out with Amelia so she often found you sitting on her couch when she got back from work; you told her you would stop if it made her uncomfortable, but she assured you it was fine. Besides, it was Amelia's house too, so she had every right to invite you any time she wanted.
That's what she told herself, the only reason why she didn't mind you being at her place.
Actually, that was not the only reason.
"Bailey loves when you play with him, and it actually gives me a break from keeping an eye on all three of them, so really, don't worry about it" in the time you spent at her place, you also met her kids, and they seemed to love you. Well, of course kids like someone who plays with them and hands them candies while their mother isn't looking.
But that's it. Meredith didn't have any ulterior motives for wanting you near her all the time.
You, on the other end, wanted to be near Meredith without hiding behind the excuse of hanging out with Amelia or helping her babysit.
When you first came to grey sloan memorial you had already heard about Meredith and her mother. Sure, you learned from experience to never trust rumors and to only believe what happened right in front of your eyes.
But you saw Meredith Grey operate, you saw how her brain worked while in the O.R., and how it worked outside of it. And you wanted to see more of it.
You couldn't say you were the only one, or at least you thought- hoped so.
Meredith kept on giving you mixed signals, and after what Amelia told you about Derek and what happened to him you decided to go at her pace, and only ask her out directly once you were sure she liked you back and was ready.
But that didn't stop you from testing the waters.
- - - -
"so you think we should go for the heart first?" he raised his eyebrows
"I mean, yea but you'd have to be quick, I can't waste time" you could feel Riggs' eyes on you as you observed the charts
"quantify quick"
You shrugged "I don't know, an hour? We can't leave him open for too long"
"no that's not enough time, if I rush things I could kill him" And with a shake of the man's head, you were back to square one.
Impossible cases were fun only once you found a way to make them possible. But after two hours in the same room with Riggs, you were still in that gray area between the two.
"what are you two grumbling about?" a familiar voice made itself known, making the both of you turn to the door.
"brainstorming" Riggs replied simply "you wanted something?"
"hi Mer" you interjected, your smile growing in size when she reciprocated.
"Maggie wanted you to take a look at these, they're not urgent but page her as soon as you do" she handed him three charts, probably Maggie's patients' "everyone seems to be delegating today" she added with a sigh.
While the cardiac surgeon started flipping through the pages, you took in Meredith's hooded eyes and loose ponytail "you okay?"
She was silent for a second, before shrugging "Zola didn't want to go to sleep last night and didn't want to go to school today, Ellis cried all night and Bailey gave me two of her patients-"
"Bailey your son?"
"the chief" she squinted her eyes unamused, while Riggs' laugh echoed between the two of you "so I'll be better once I get home" she resumed
You glanced at the man, making sure he was invested in the papers Maggie gave him, before clearing your throat "hey, uhm" you waited for Meredith to look at you "I'm going to the bar to get a drink later, want to join me for a bite?"
She opened her mouth, seemingly debating on her answer, then shook her head after a minute "I can't, I have to put the kids to bed I'm sorry-"
"no no it's okay, don't worry" you waved your hand around, lightly swaying in your chair.
Meredith responded to your small smile with one of her own, though her eyes seemed to not want to end it there.
"uh, don't forget to page Maggie when you're done with them" she told Riggs. Then, with a small wave, she got out of the room.
"Yikes" the sound of papers colliding loudly with the table made you turn your neck to the other surgeon.
"what"
"nothing it's just" he shrugged his shoulders at your accusatory tone "I've been in your shoes, it's hard. good luck" he shook his head "I mean I failed so you definitely need it"
"oh fuck off, and focus on the case" you shot him a look and rolled your eyes at his arrogant, amused smile.
Riggs laughed at your comment, ready to respond, but the way you were biting on your lip, visibly lost in the papers in front of you, prevented him from doing so.
"Do you have an idea?"
It took a few more seconds, before you got up from your seat, relieved smile gracing your face "Maggie could be there too. She can take care of the heart and you'll work on the veins around it. How long do you think it'll take?"
Riggs thought it over, before nodding with a smile "I'd say no more than forty minutes"
"That way we won't leave him open for too long"
"we should have Meredith here more often" he joked, pointing a finger in your direction.
- - - -
After figuring the case out with Riggs you had just hoped for a quiet rest of the shift; but the world didn't want that for you, as one of you patients got rushed into surgery, so here you were now, getting out of the hospital two hours after your shift normally ended.
You stopped mid yawn when you heard footsteps quickly approaching. Turning around, you found Meredith standing in front of you, now dressed in her normal clothes, brown jacket around her shoulders, and ragged breaths coming out of her mouth.
"you're still here? I thought you already went home?"
She remained silent for a second to consider her words, covering it up as just catching her breath, then quickly spoke up "you're driving"
"what?"
"to the bar." She started explaining, watching as a smile started to make itself present on your face "I'm too tired to drive and I want to drink so you'll drive me home too"
You were actually about to go home, the day had taken a toll on you so you had decided to just go home to sleep. But Meredith didn't need to know that.
You would withhold that small information since she finally accepted to go out with you.
You weren't even sure you could call it 'going out', you didn't phrase it like that and you don't think she would have agreed to it if you did.
So this was just two friends hanging out. You'd take whatever she was willing to give you.
"okay" you said "my car is that way"
- - - -
The 'friendly hangout' went well, thankfully there was never tension or awkward silence when the two of you were alone.
Sober Meredith ranted to you about her stressful day and how she wanted to ground all three of her children for a whole week so she could get some rest. While tipsy Meredith scolded you for even thinking about work or your personal problems, "we came here to relax" she claimed, completely oblivious to her own hypocrisy.
And just as you promised, you didn't have a single glass of liquor, so you could drive a tipsy Meredith home, safe and sound.
"I left my car at the hospital" when she spoke up again after a quiet car ride - where you suspected she fell asleep - her words weren't slurred anymore, but they were still hard to hear with how her face was squashed against your shoulder. She was trying to keep herself warm, she said, tightening the jacket around her middle.
You were careful with your steps as to not make her lose balance. You were almost at her porch by now.
"I know, I drove us to the bar" You stopped walking and Meredith straightened her back.
You kept quiet, not wanting to disturb the atmosphere of the night, while she turned her body to unlock the door.
All the lights were off and the house seemed to be completely silent, Amelia and Maggie were probably already asleep. You let out a quiet yawn, shaking your head to try and wake yourself up. You couldn't afford to fall asleep on the road.
In the meantime, Meredith was still facing the door, the key was inside the hole but you didn't hear it turn yet. Her head hung low while her hand delicately gripped the door handle.
Before you could question it she turned around, letting her bag fall to the ground. She took a step closer to you, heart beating wildly in her chest paired with a weird ringing in her ears. It was only partially due to the alcohol.
You kept looking at her, a small smile on your lips despite your confusion, and she soon found herself unable to look away.
Your eyes were soft, she noticed, they were darker under this light but she could still catch a glimpse of their natural colour. She took a step closer, wanting to take a better look. You raised your hand along your waist in surprise, and she almost thought you were about to touch her. Almost wished you did.
Yet another step was taken, to the point where your feet were almost touching.
She didn't notice you leaning in.
From this distance Meredith could smell your perfume clearly. She already knew she liked it, she got acquainted with it while her head was resting on your shoulder. You didn't reek of alcohol, if there was any trace of it she knew it was her fault. But you still smelled the same you did hours ago.
Her hand grabbed your forearm to keep you there. She liked your perfume. It was new, it was different. Different from-
She took two steps back. Derek never smelled like that.
You tried taking a step forward, calling after her, but her hand left your forearm and moved in between you two to stop your movements.
"it's late" she shook her head, picking up her bag from the floor "you should go"
You opened your mouth, your defeated look was probably why she avoided your eyes "Mer"
"you should go" she repeated, and her hand was already pushing the door open, quickly disappearing behind it.
You refrained yourself from yelling after her, not wanting to wake up anyone, so you just sighed, heading back to your car.

Summary: A recent graduate from Medical School, and needing a job, you posted your resume on a job search site. It was easy, your name and your specialization, internal medicine. Turns out, you really shouldn’t post things when you’re more asleep than awake, because you accidentally typed infernal medicine. Now you’re an employee at a hospital in Hell. At least the cost of living is pretty low.
Pairing: Commander Cody x GN!Reader
Prompt: Demon Cody
Word Count: 1232
Warnings: None, really
A/N: So I had a ghost of an idea, but I'm not sure if I made it clear. Also, I had an idea for a second part to a Wrecker fic, but when I tried to start writing it my brain just went, "Nuh-uh. Cody only."

“My mother will be so disappointed in me,” You say with a sigh as you rest your chin on the palm of your hand.
The person you’re eating lunch with, Emerie, lifts her eerie golden gaze away from her meal. Emerie, like everyone else here, is a demon. She’s a wonderful nurse, though. If you had someone like her when you were doing your residency life would have been smooth sailing.
“Why would she be disappointed in you?” Emerie asks before she takes a bite of her lunch.
“Mother and father wanted me to become a plastic surgeon,” You explain, finally lifting your head from your hand and stabbing your salad. You hadn’t been sure that you’d be able to eat anything grown in Hell. As it happens, not only can you eat it, it is actually healthier than anything you ate back home.
Ironic.
Emerie blinks at you, “You hate plastic surgery.” She points out. “You had a whole thirty-minute rant about vanity surgeries the other day. I recorded you.”
“Why would you do that?”
“Because it amused me,” Emerie replies with a shrug, “Anyway, you’re an amazing doctor. You’re already the head of Infernal Medicine.”
“Yeaaah. You do realize that I made a typo on my resume, right?”
Emerie taps her chin, “Well when it became sink or swim time, you managed to save his majesty. So typo or not, you’re in.”
You flash the other woman a tired smile, “Well, I’ve always been a decent swimmer.”
Emerie grins and finishes her lunch, “You proved it. Now everyone is on your side.” Her grin widens, “Plus, there’s the way Marshal Commander Cody looks at you.”
“Please stop.” You say as your face burns at her comment.
“Okay, okay. But only because I have to get back on the floor.” Emerie grins at you, “I’ll see you later, Doc.”
Emerie leaves and you sigh as you take a sip of your drink, your mind already wandering away from your work and onto Marshal Commander Cody.
Tall and broad, with striking golden eyes, and a quick wit, you and Commander Cody formed a fast friendship while he was escorting you from your apartment on the surface to your new apartment here in Hell.
Even though it had been an easy trip, it still took several days since you both had to travel by foot. And you peppered him with questions about Hell and the rules and everything that you needed to know to thrive here, and he was happy to answer your questions. While peppering you with questions of his own.
When he dropped you off at your new apartment, you thought that you would never see him again.
Only he kept showing up in the same area as you.
Eventually, after a month of him always being there, Cody admitted to you that the King tasked him with making sure that you adjusted to this new life effortlessly, though he also admitted that he would continue sticking around until you got tired of him.
And the truth?
You don’t think you will ever get tired of him.
You look up when someone slides into the seat across from you, and you tilt your head curiously when you see Cody sitting there.
“I wasn’t aware that you were a doctor or a nurse, Commander,” You say dryly.
“I’m not.” He leans back in the seat, his arms crossing across his broad chest, and a small grin playing on his lips, “But see, no one here is actually going to try and stop me either. Privilege of rank, you know.”
“Mm-hmm,” You take a bite of your salad, and then set the fork down, “Was there something you needed?”
You twitch slightly when you feel his tail wrap around your ankle and then slide up your calf, though your only other reaction is a slightly exasperated look.
“Do I need a reason to come and see you, cyar’ika?” Cody asks, his beautiful golden eyes darkening to a deep orange as he leans in slightly.
You don’t look away, and he grins at you. “Well,” You say thoughtfully, after a moment, “I suppose not. But generally people don’t visit the doctors at the hospital.” You point out.
Cody shrugs, “I want to see you, not anyone else. Are you busy?”
“Always.”
His grin widens, “Wanna go for a walk?”
“So long as I don’t actually leave the hospital, then that’s fine.” You agree, “There’s a small garden out back.”
He stands and offers you his hand, which you take with a roll of your eyes. Though, you are glad that he thought ahead and pulled his tail away from your leg before expecting you to walk.
You toss your trash and allow him to tug you out of the cafeteria, down an almost empty hall, and out the side door that leads to the garden.
As soon as the door closes behind you, Cody shifts his hand so that his fingers are threaded with yours, and he squeezes your hand gently before he tugs you away from the building and towards a cluster of trees.
“So, what’s this about anyway?” You ask as you glance up at the deep purple sky for a moment before you focus your attention back on Cody.
“I need to tell you something.” He seems to look around for a moment, and then he grins and tugs you off the path and between two large trees. For a moment you can’t see anything because of how dark it is, but then you’re in a clearing.
Quickly, Cody releases your hand and lightly places his hands on your shoulders. He walks you backward so that you’re back presses against a tree, and even with him pinning you like this, you’re not the least bit afraid.
Deeply flustered, maybe. But not afraid.
Cody leans in and presses his forehead against yours, and you can just barely feel the ridges of his horns pressed against your forehead. “Am I making you nervous, cyar’ika?”
“No,” You admit honestly, as your hands slowly drag up his arms to press against his cheeks, “A little curious, maybe. But not afraid. Not of you.”
“Good,” He shifts, just a little bit, and then his lips are pressed against yours. You stiffen, at first, in surprise. But then you relax into the kiss, dropping your arms to wrap around his neck.
He seems to like that, as he presses even tighter against you, his tail coming up to wrap securely around your waist.
Cody breaks the kiss before you do, and he laughs softly when you try to follow him to keep kissing him. You pout at him, unable to help it, “Why’d you stop?”
“Needed to make sure that you’re willing,” Cody teases, “Plus,” He pulls his vibrating comm out of his pocket, “I have to get back to base.”
You slump slightly, “Oh.”
“Tonight, cyare. I’ll pick you up after my shift.” Cody promises, “And then I’ll kiss you until you get tired of it.”
“What if I don’t?”
He grins and kisses you quickly, “Then I guess I’ll just spend the night.” He kisses you one more time, and then finally releases you, “Back to work, Doc. I’ll see you in a couple of hours.”
“I—”
He presses a finger against your lips, “Later, cyare. I promise.”
And, slowly, you nod. “Alright. Later then.”

(i'm also scheduling this post for while i'm at uni, and also for the same day as the last episode of season five. how's the last episode, future me?)

The breeze whispered throughout every nook and cranny of the port city, hailing from the misty waters of its many rivers before permeating into the air. It blanketed pedestrians in cool afternoon gails, blessing them with the blissful beginnings of a new season as the leaves fell before them like rain. (Name) thrummed her fingers against the keys of her laptop, peering down at the passers-by through the agency office's window before tuning back into her work.
It had been a sluggish day for the agency — a hidden miracle in their busy schedules. For the past few weeks, they had been trampled with incidents that spanned the city, along with their usual run-ins with the infamous Port Mafia. However, the consequences of monotony were paperwork and lots of it. Each of her co-workers had been assigned an allotted amount of work, though some were better at getting through it than others.
Kunikida had to be the most diligent of them all, rapidly typing away at his desk with his sole focus on the articles he ciphered through — not that anyone was surprised. The week had especially rattled his routine, so he seemed most pleased to return to an orderly schedule. Atsushi tried to follow in his footsteps, though he struggled to keep up with the blonde's brisk pace. Kyoka was perched at the weretiger's side, staring in a daze at his work before mindlessly clicking at her laptop without rhyme or reason.
Naomi and Junichiro canoodled in an isolated corner, which everyone purposefully ignored like always. Loud crunches could be heard like clockwork as they echoed across the room, crumbs scattered onto the floor as Ranpo ran through his weekly snack stash, disregarding the heaps of investigation requests on his desk. Yosano hummed from the other room, polishing her metal utensils with such enthusiasm that (Name) tried not to think about it too much. Instead, she tried to focus on her work, a pep in each stroke of her pen as she raced to conclude her second stack.
However, the resident suicidal maniac did not seem as content as the rest of his co-workers, dramatically sighing from his desk. He twisted around in accelerating revolutions; his entire body crammed onto the seat with his eyes glued to the ceiling.
"I'm so bored," he muttered, strumming his bandaged hands against the arms of his chair. His fingers wandered across the desk like brittle spiders, jumping onto Kunikida's arm and crawling up towards his neck. Everyone could see the way his shoulders tensed, counting down their internal clocks until he exploded.
"This sucks! I'm so bored."
And just as Kunikida was about to crack, pivoting his head with a sneer on his lips—
"How about I take you somewhere, then?"
Dazai's attention immediately snapped towards (Name), mimicking the same attentiveness as a dog that heard the word 'treat.' He flew over with exceeding velocity, the wheels of his chair scraping against the floor as he clasped their hands together, gawking at her as if she were a goddess incarnate.
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!"
Kunikida interjected before Dazai could practically fling himself out the window, giving (Name) a pointed look. "Are you sure you can handle him? And make sure he does his work?"
She nodded, waving him off with a smile. "I'm sure."
Plopping two separate stacks of paperwork into her arms, she balanced them both in one and grabbed Dazai with the other, leading him out the door. He practically frolicked at her side, a skip in his steps as she steered him downstairs.
"Sooooo, where are we going? A bridge to stare into the shimmering sea? A sky-scraper to gaze into the setting sun? I can hardly take the anticipation!"
She smacked him with her blank stare. "Why do I feel like you'd only take the opportunity to jump rather than do some sightseeing?"
"With you there?" he beamed. "The only sight I need before my untimely demise is you, my dear."
She scoffed, hiding the quirk of her lips as she turned away from him. "Pft—yeah, okay."
His eyes shimmered as they exited the building, only for her to drag him into a very familiar doorway, the scent of coffee striking his nostrils. He crossed his arms, a boyish pout on his face.
"The café. Really?"
She only grinned from ear to ear, hiding the shake in her shoulders. "You complained about being bored. Here's your change of scenery."
"How unfair," he groaned as he dragged himself over to their usual table, catching the attention of the café owner and his wife, the latter of which strolled over, a smile settled on her face.
"What can I get you two?"
"Hmmm." (Name) pondered as she glanced over the drink menu. She was momentarily tempted to streamline towards adventurous today, dabbling into something she never had before, but instead decided to go with her usual. "I'll have a cortado."
The owner's wife nodded before she turned to Dazai, who was completely uninterested in the entire exchange. "I guess I'll have an espresso."
The woman took their order, though her happy expression had narrowed into a frown. She bent over, careful not to disturb the brunette who slumped down in his seat and fixated on the sights outside.
"Is he okay? He's not acting like his usual, charming self."
(Name) nodded, if only to reassure the sweet lady, but couldn't help her own confusion over his withdrawal and disinterest. He never missed an opportunity to flirt with women, even in the worst of moods. Her eyes traced over his uncharacteristic stillness, scrutinizing him.
"You okay, Dazai?"
He glanced up, resting his head against the table. "Hmm? Yeah, why?"
"You're just not acting like yourself."
He raised a brow. "How so?"
She refrained from responding, not quite sure how to, messing with her fingers as her mind racked for a coherent reply. For some reason, she felt herself struggling despite her usual witt, unable to pinpoint her confusion.
"Well, you didn't flirt with the waitress."
He stared into her eyes for an uncomfortable amount of time, an unreadable gleam reflected in his own as his spine straightened, taking her hand into his own. She stiffed as his fingers worked through the aching muscles of her palm, his diligence a stark contrast to his sloth-like behavior.
"Did you want me to flirt with the waitress?"
"I-I," she stuttered, not expecting to be caught off-guard by such a random question — she should've seen that coming; bamboozling her was one of Dazai's favorite pastimes. She attempted to scramble through her thoughts, becoming mildly frustrated as his laughter peaked through her mutters, giving up with a groan.
"Just do your work."
The café became quiet as she returned to the monotony of sorting through papers; only the mellow clinks of the owner's painstaking coffee creation process and the gentle hum of the occasional cars could be heard. She continued to write, heartened by the stunning scenery of the season and setting, able to sign a couple of papers before she began to recognize a tapping sound. It started soft at first, almost unnoticeable. However, it grew in rhythm and volume, shaking the table like sticks on a snare drum. Then, the humming began, followed quickly by grating, off-pitch singing.
"You can't do a double suicide~"
She was about to intrude upon his solo concert when the owner's wife interrupted them, setting their drinks on the table with a curt smile. (Name) returned it with relieved earnestness, letting out a small 'thank you' before she brought the drink to her lips. She released a pleased hum, the soothing taste of steamed milk sliding down her throat and easing her muscles. When she looked up from it at Dazai, she had, for some reason, expected him to do the same.
However, the sight she was met with was unholy. The man had resorted to filtering several packets of sugar and sweetener into the drink, effectively ruining it as it soaked up like a sponge, like a monstrous coffee-cereal concoction.
"Why aren't you doing your paperwork?" she whined.
He took a spoonful of the drink, shoving it into his mouth as he swallowed with wide eyes, vibrating in his seat as the disgusting notes trampled on his tongue. His scrunched face honestly reminded her of a pissed-off cat, and she had to physically refrain from laughing at him as he slowly settled down.
"Cause we're on a date." It was his turn to hold back the laughter as she gaped at him. "Doing work on a date is an absolute no-no."
"A-A date—?" She shot up from her seat, slamming her hands against the table and almost spilling their drinks, narrowly avoiding so as they circled in their cups. "What do you mean a date?"
He merely shrugged. "You're a stunning young woman. I'm an absolutely drop-dead bachelor. We're alone together in a coffee shop. It's a date."
"T-That doesn't mean—"
"Do you not want it to be a date?" he pouted before taking a sip of his drink, pointedly ignoring her sputtered rebuttal with only an inattentive hum.
"You know what—fine. It's a date," she relented, plopping over in his seat.
He chuckled, setting his drink down as he took her hands. "Well, if this is a date, then I have a better idea of what we should do."
It was now his turn to take her by the arm, already slinging her out the door with a devilish look that told her everything she needed to know — he had planned this all from the beginning. She yelled out her apologies to the café manager, promising to come back and pay for their drinks as she was shoved out the door. The manager only scoffed with a softened smile, his wife leaning against his arm as she sighed.
"Ahhh, to be young again."

omg, thank youu for responding mee😭💞 i never thought i would find another fan of intkot which i want to request :3 so, if you do, maybe you could do Deon or the emperor? I don't mind if you write them both unless If you mind and i would like it to be fluff! Thank youu<33
Take the Damn Cupcake
[Authors Note]: You said fluff? Yes, fluff… I have little to no idea what fluff would look like with either of the two… I mean, let’s be honest, these two are nothing but emotionally detached from reality. But, nonetheless, I'll give it a try and see what I come up with. I was only able to do Deon.
PS. ALSO sorry this took so long. I just couldn't get my head around what Deon would do for fluff. In my mind, he can't do fluff...
𝚆𝚘𝚛𝚍 𝙲𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚝: 1155
– They’ll most likely be OOC, again because they would NOT act like this in OG. At least from the Manhwa; they might as well act like this in the light novel.
– Let’s establish some things before we start.
– For one, Deon is not a child. Just getting that out of the way.
– Two, when I tell you this man doesn’t know what social cues are, I mean it.
– Three, we have to take into consideration Deon’s other personality like the crazy side that can push us back from getting to the real him? (if there even is one).
– Now, the scenario must be established: Let us say you are a noblewoman in high society, wanting nothing to do with any political or power struggles all around you. One day, your family–mostly your father–gets accused of treason. For this, your father and brothers get out to death. Your sister gets married off to a low commoner, while you get the low end of the stick and become a slave, who has to follow the orders of their master.
– And that’s where we are beginning! Don’t worry the fluff is coming…somewhere…
Father wasn’t someone who was very attentive to his family but he wasn’t a bad man either. So when soldiers came and broke down the doors of our residence screaming my father’s name and traitor in the same sentence, I was shocked. My father wasn’t against the crown, he was one of the first who agreed with the emperor’s ascension.
Then…why?
Why is the emperor doing this? Why are my relatives being sent to the slave encampment? Why are my brothers and father’s blood scattered all over the pristine floors? Why is my mother’s body hanging by a rope outside the castle walls? Why is my older sister marrying a commoner who’s only worth is less than a grain of salt? Why am I kneeling in front of the man who commanded this annihilation of our family’s honor and name? Why…?
“[Name] Fidel, youngest daughter of the Fidel family’s Head, and last member of the most loyal family in the empire…” eyes pierced through my very soul, “...what do you have to say about the transgression your father committed towards the empire?”
I stared at the imposing man sitting comfortably in his throne forged from blood. What could I say? That my father was innocent with sharp evidence that he wasn’t? That me and my family knew nothing of this? That I knew my father’s crimes and stayed quiet, even if it was a lie?
“Your majesty… I… Please...spare me….” I begged for my sake
“You’re begging for mercy?” The man stood up, “and here I thought your family had some dignity. But knowing what your father did, I don’t think any of you ever did.”
Why did I even speak? My fate was sealed the moment my father was accused of treason. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get married to a commoner like my sister, and survive… But knowing the emperor, he’s most likely to send me off to get killed.
Dear world… Please save me.
The emperor went down the steps, one at a time, humming about the punishment I should receive. He stopped and looked down at me.
“Look up,” he commanded, and I obliged. “Oh. I know what your punishment can be…” He looked back up at the flight of stairs towards a man with white hair.
My eyes widened at the realization that was to come. No…No, please..! I begged internally to hear my pleas. Anything but that monster!
“Deon, would you care for a slave?” the emperor asked. “It would be good to vent out your frustrations and anger onto something, don’t you think?”
“...” the man remained silent and glared at me. “...I suppose.”
“Then it’s decided,” he turned to look at my misery, “from here on, you are a Deon Heart’s slave. Is that understood?”
“Yes...your majesty,” I said, bowing my head on the ground.
“Good.”
This was going to be the end of me… I thought as I gazed at the man who now had ownership over me.
…
The time in the Hart manor…wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. From the moment I stepped foot into this mansion, I was treated normally. People would even still address me as lady Fidel, even if that name no longer existed, they still respected me as if I never lost my honor.
Another of my worries was how the house would look inside. Many rumors suggested that the inside of the house still had the blood of the count's parents. For one, the house didn’t look like a murder scene–with the exception of a portrait by the stairs–it was all neatly cleaned. I dare say, cleaner than the floor of the emperor's castle.
My last worry was Count Deon. With the ruthless reputation he has, I thought I was in for a session of pain. But… He hadn't even looked at me since he took me here as a reward, as they called it.
Maybe…people had been mistaken about his character? I stopped swiping the floor as I thought of Deon actually being a nice guy. No, [Name]! You need to stay vigilant. He is yet to get mad, what if he explodes and decides to kill us all!? I swept faster and made grunting noises from my distress.
“What are you doing…?”
“EP!” I flipped back as fast as possible, “I-I’m so sorry, sir—!” Red eyes pierced my body. Those bloody eyes are not what you wish to see in the estate. “M-master Deon… I… let me get out of your way m-master…” I made myself to the side to make way for Count Deon.
“Huh…?” He looked puzzled.
Crap, did I do something he didn’t like!?
“I’m sorry if I offended you in any way master Deon…!” I vowed down. If I didn’t hold a bit of my pride, I would be on my knees begging him not to eat me alive.
“Don’t call me that. It’s annoying me…” Deon said with a cold voice.
“Y-YES, OF COURSE COUNT DEON!” I yelled and apologized profusely; I wanted to curl up in a ball and slowly die. Please leave me alone!
“And don’t yell.”
“Yes…”
“...”
“...”
“...”
God, and the heavens above…please have mercy upon me and get me out of this situation!
I was on the verge of tears, until a pastry came into my line of view. “Huh?” I looked up to see that it was Count Deon who had his arm stretched out.
“Take it,” his arm moved closer to me, waiting for me to take the medium size cupcake.
I was hungry and wanted to take it, but I retracted my hand away from it. What if this is one of those perverse games of his? It could have poison, and when I eat it, he’ll be laughing at my dying body while I try to scream for help. But if I don’t accept it, he’ll get mad..! Oh, why did this have to happen to me!?
As minutes passed and my mind battled on what action I should take. I felt a hand grab my wrist and twisted it until my palm was facing upwards. Then, I felt the soft bottom of the cupcake.
“Just take the damn cupcake,” Count Deon said with a small scuff. I saw as he slowly left for his office. He stopped mid-walk and called back to me, “[Name]?”
“Y-yes?!”
“Next time, accept whatever I give you. Got that?”
“O..kay?” He nodded and fully left. I was left in the hallway with a cupcake in hand. My eyes wandered back to the pastry. My stomach wanted to try it, so I tried it, even if my brain warned me not to. “Oh!” It was sweet! Vanilla flavor with chocolate inside it, topped with whipping cream.
If the cupcake had poison, I couldn't taste it. I gazed back at the spot where Count Deon was last.
“...Maybe… He isn’t that bad after all.”

Looking for ways to spend your Violet Harmon or Murder House fall or just simply looking for entertainment? Here's a list for you. 🍁🎃👻
Twilight
Twilight was a film adapted based on the book series where a girl that goes by the name of Bella Swan who moves into forks and falls for an attractively mysterious guy who turns out to be a vampire.
Violet might like Twilight because it shares somewhat Tate and Violet's dynamic where Violet moves into a new neighbourhood and falls for a guy with a dark secret and well vampires.
Gorky Park
Gorky Park follows a story of a detective who finds 3 bodies with their identities gruesomely erased from them and buried in the snow as a COLD case in Gorky Park. The detective figured the practice was done by a professional only to be tangled into a web of political corruption.
This may have encouraged Violet to get the house for her morbid curiosity as in the pilot script, Violet was curious to the morbid stories down the basement. Unable to unlock the basement, the house was sold for her to explore it.
Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice follows a story about a deceased couple who haunt their house to scare new residents. The deetz family moved in, and the couple that failed to haunt them decided to get help from a poltergeist who went by the name betelgeuse, also known as Beetlejuice. However, Betelgeuse antics had escalated, and now a living girl with a fascination for the macabre and initially struggles with her dysfunctional family known as Lydia Deetz befriends the ghostly couple and helps them to get rid of betelgeuse.
Im sure Violet would relate to Lydia Deetz on a personal level due to their feeling of being alienated by their dysfunctional family and interest in the macabre.
The Addams Family
The dark, humoured series follows a dysfunctional macabre family, alienation, familial bonds, and embracing one’s unique identity, much like Violet's own struggles with her sense of self and her complicated family dynamics and resonating to Wednesday's melancholic yet resilient character.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is reflected in her parallels to Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, and Luna Lovegood. Like Harry, Violet feels isolated and misunderstood while confronting the oppressive forces in her life. Luna represents acceptance of individuality and the struggles of indifference, mirroring Violet's own struggle with identity. Meanwhile, Draco's internal conflict, stemming from his family's dark secrets and expectations, adds another layer of complexity as he grapples with loyalty and morality.
Extra: Hogwarts was built after Harvard, which may be one of the reasons why Violet wanted to go to Harvard before not only because it was a largely commended and known school but her appreciation for art and it's architecture just like her appreciation for her house because "it's got soul".
NO, I PROMISE I DIDN'T ADD THIS BECAUSE OF MY OBSESSION. (clearly... 😇 and I'm getting paid for this job so...)
NANA
The series follows a romance between two girls who were both named NANA who met on the same train to tokyo. However, their relationship is jeopardized as the harsh realities of the adult life.
Violet could be seen reading the mange NANA #1 in the series.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Violet's affinity for the darkness would enjoy this series along with the vampire aspects and took place in LA. The Rosenheim Mansion (Murder House) also made an appearance on the series in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4: Episode 4: Fear itself.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Violet has a whimsigothic element and has an affinity for macabre elements as mentioned. Sabrina struggles with finding her own identity due to her witch heritage, friends, family secrets, sense of rebellion to social norms, and chaos in her life, which Violet could resonate to.
Wednesday
As mentioned previously for films referenced to the Addams Family & Gorky Park, Violet may enjoy this series that has a touch for coming of age, struggling to fit social norms, family secrets, murder mystery, and so on...
X-Files
X-Files is a series of special agents that investigate the unexplained, also known as the x-files, and previously was a popular meme to the illuminati. Violet's affinity to crime and murder mystery may enjoy this just like Wednesday and Gorky Park.
The X-Files also featured the Alfred Rosenheim Manor (Murder House) in the X-Files Season 6, Episode 6: How the Ghost Stole Christmas.

Chapter 4: Plans
“Claire?”
You had whirled around with a mop in your hand at the unexpected intrusion, catching sight of the familiar redhead grinning like a Cheshire Cat at the door. It was partway into your cleaning routine—one you usually completed before the shop was open.
Your eyes flew to the sign at the entrance. Well, that explains it. You had left it on the other way round by accident. Oops.
“The one and only,” she crooned. “Told you I would come back.”
“A woman of your word,” you acknowledged in appreciation. Discarding the cleaning equipment in the closet, you took down the postcard you had pinned to the fridge with a kitsch souvenir magnet.
She swiped the card from your hands mischievously, asserting, “So, I believe I’m long overdue for a drink?”
“What would’ya like to have?”
“Definitely something with caffeine in it,” she declared, placing a hand on her hip as if she meant business.
Fanning herself with the postcard, she proceeded to confide in you about her recent life changes. “I can’t actually stay long, Mr. Bertolucci’s got me on doc review tonight.”
You halted suddenly in the middle of preparing the drink, a wooden spoon suspended in the air, green powder swirling like dust motes around the tea bowl. The chashaku and the chawan.
“You’re Ben’s new intern?” you questioned, giddy with excitement.
“Yeah…? It’ll count towards my college credit. I’m a journalism major,” she clarified before teasing, “That also means I’ll be in town for a while, so you better get used to me! Say, you know the guy?”
You laughed soundly as you whisked the matcha into a thick paste with a traditional chasen. Looks like he took your suggestion to heart after all. “He’s a regular.”
Steaming the full-cream milk to perfection, you frothed it up before adding it layer by layer to the paste, your hand moving with practiced precision to create a delicate pattern in the bowl. When you were satisfied with the piece, you gave it to Claire, and at the same time, pointed to the armchair in the corner. “Usually sits over there and works through the night.”
“Yeah, he’s really passionate about it,” Claire concurred, cupping the bowl that she received from you with both hands. “I like that he doesn’t take anyone’s bullshit.”
“Just make sure you get enough rest too,” you reminded her. “Have plenty of breaks.”
“Thanks, mom…” she quipped, rolling her eyes as she punched your shoulder playfully. “So, how’s our all-star cop doing?”
“Leon?” you asked casually, busying yourself with arranging the drinkware and ingredients even though you had already laid them out the night before. “He pops by every so often.”
“Like, every day…?” she probed.
How did she—?
You paused your fiddling and peered up at her. “Who told you that?”
A devilish smirk emerged. “I heard it straight from the horse’s mouth.” She took a sip from the bowl, her face lightening up in contentment.
“He kept jabbering on about you, hounding me to visit your shop. Not that I wasn’t planning to myself already,” she sighed exasperatedly.
“Oh.” You continued where you left off, this time taking a dry cloth to polish the glassware for the umpteenth time. If you squinted hard enough, there was always a speck of dust you missed.
“It seems you’re now very interested in that glass,” she said, exposing the truth of the matter behind your evasiveness.
Damn, she would make a good journalist.
“He likes the menu, speaking of which, how’s the Matcha Latte?” you changed the subject smoothly.
“I’m sure he likes a lot more than that,” she muttered into the bowl before raising her voice to reply, “I love it! It tastes like the real deal—”
Suddenly, the door flung open, and you could hear Ben calling out with a sense of urgency, “Redfield! I got something on the footage, you might wanna check it out!”
He tossed a roll of film over to Claire, who dove and caught it like a baseball player in a major league game. Then, he craned his neck in your direction. “The strongest coffee you've got, to go. I think we’re onto something here!”
Giving him a mock salute, you whipped up the Triple Espresso that he was fond of and poured it into a takeaway cup, fastening on the lid as you handed it over to him.
“Life saver,” he mumbled, slipping you the cash for both drinks with a generous tip before dashing out of the shop with Claire in tow, who managed to yell out a quick “Bye!” as she ran after him.
You only had a few minutes to rest until you heard a loud commotion coming from the outside. Hurrying to the door, you could make out the voices of Leon and another boisterous man, as if he had drunk something stronger.
“This the place?”
“No, Ryman, I’m not taking you in there! Let’s get you home.”
“Why? I’ve got two legs, don’t I? Never asked for a babysitter.”
“You won’t like it anyway, it’s not a bar.”
“Aww, come on, rookie! Gotta show me this girl you’re head over heels for!”
“It’s not like that! And don’t call me by that name!”
“Or what, Kennedy? You gonna sue me?”
At this, you swung the door open, and the two men stared at you sheepishly from the entrance. “Would you like to come in?” you gestured towards the shop behind you amicably.
The dumbfounded look on the brunette’s face gradually morphed into a smug smirk. The sharp smell of alcohol wafted from his breath. “How could I say no to a sweetheart like you?”
You noticed Leon cringing internally at the man’s flirtatious behavior as they both ambled in. Passing by, Leon gave you a weak smile before drawing close, whispering apologetically, “Sorry about my colleague, he can be quite a handful.”
Your lips stirred, but no words came. Maybe you didn’t have any for what you wanted to express. Instead, your hand moved on its own accord, touching his shoulder and tracing down his arm. He shivered in response, his breathing uneven as he reached up and clasped your hand in his, brushing his thumb against its back. “I—”
“Hey, Romeo, over here!” the other man shouted from across the room, already seated snuggly at the counter row.
Letting go, your hand dropped limply back to your side as Leon ripped his gaze away, grumbling at the interruption as he sluggishly lumbered over to its source.
“Anything I can get you?” you asked as you shifted behind the counter.
“Hmm, that’s a loaded question, sweet cheeks. What wouldn’t I like to have?” the man laughed, only to have it cut short with an ‘oof’ when Leon nudged him in the ribs.
“Right, where are my manners? The name’s Kevin,” he followed up, extending his hand which you shook while using the other to rub his side sorely.
“We were just at Jack’s Bar,” Leon informed you, his words chosen carefully. You managed to read between the lines of what he was hinting at and swiftly whipped up one of your special remedies.
“Well, well, what do we have here?” Kevin inquired eagerly as you laid out two portions of the mixture before them.
“Try it,” Leon answered for you as Kevin picked it up gingerly, examining it as if it were some kind of odd specimen.
“Bottoms up,” Kevin muttered, as he downed the pearly, alabaster liquid in one go.
His face first twisted into an amorphous shape until his features relaxed and he nodded in approval. “Herby, but pretty damn good. What the hell is it?”
“Cough syrup,” you jested. It took them a while before they got the joke and joined in the laughter.
“Tell me if you still have a hangover tomorrow,” you instructed after they had settled down.
“What am I, the test subject?” Kevin blurted out. “And this, the cure?”
“It’s worked on most people,” you shrugged.
“Cute. Anyway, did you slip my friend here a love potion, ’cause—ow! Hey! What the—”
“Ryman…” Leon warned, as you watched the events unfolding before you with amusement.
You saw Kevin mumble something into the irate officer’s ear about “being his wingman” before turning towards you with a charming smile. Then, he addressed his colleague again, “Talking about minxes, what did you think about that lady in red today at the station?”
All at once, Leon’s face darkened and his mouth curled into a frown. “I don’t trust her.”
Patting his back, Kevin concurred, “Neither do I, Kennedy. She can flash that fancy FBI badge all she wants, but I smell bullshit.”
“Chief Irons seems to take to her.”
This seemed to annoy Kevin even more as he spat, “Chief Irons is a—” but then paused, realizing the situation he was in. Glancing at you, he sighed, “Yeah, foul mouth, my bad.”
“I don’t mind,” you admitted, guessing that the man was trying to keep up appearances for the sake of his friend.
“Keep an eye on her,” he advised Leon, who seemed to agree with him for once. “I’m gonna run some background checks. Doesn’t sit right with me how she can access all our private files like that.”
Fishing a pack of cigarettes out of his jacket, he offered it around, but the both of you declined politely. Dumping some cash on the table, he hopped off his seat and grunted, “Well, I’m gonna leave you two lovebirds for the night.”
Before Leon could utter a single word, Kevin yanked him by the collar like an older brother roughhousing his younger sibling and said, “You better get in there before I do, rookie.”
With a brazen laugh, he ruffled the blonde boy’s hair and sprinted for the door, leaving whoever was left behind to clean up the mess he made.
Burying his face into his hands, Leon groaned loudly as you snickered at him. “Cool guy,” you mentioned.
“He’s a piece of work,” came his muffled reply.
“I’m sure he just wanted the best for you,” you comforted.
There was an audible snort as Leon took his face out of his hands and peered at you. “What season do you like the most?”
You almost stumbled backwards at the abrupt change of topic and being thrust into the spotlight again. “Now, where did that come from?”
“I’m curious.”
You searched his eyes, but upon realizing he was not going to let up, you humored him, “When the air turns crisp and the daylight shifts tonally, so everything is awash in amber.”
He perked up, his smile widening as you continued, “And the smell of pine, spice, and bonfire just floods your senses.”
“The time before nature goes into hibernation—I know, I love it too,” he finished your sentence.
“Did you go hunting a lot back home?”
“I swear—” he laughed.
You had an idea of what he was referring to. “It was just a hunch.”
He nodded. “At this rate, you must be psychic. But yeah, I did. My dad brought me.”
“Do you miss it?”
“Mm-hmm. He taught me to take only what we need,” he recounted wistfully. “And those walks in the woods—god, I miss that. Just having the time, space, and quiet to think.”
Finally, he gazed at you, swallowing as if there were a lump in his throat. “I know this is a long way off, but… would you like to come with me next fall?”
“I’d love to.”

On Erlang's mom, Lotus Lantern, and a neat little discovery
"Erlang's mom is Yaoji, JE's sister."
You can see that statement in literally every JTTW + adjacent fandom, both Chinese and English. Personally, it isn't as annoying as the "Nvwa is JE's daughter" thing, but does get a little tiring when everyone and their mother takes it as actual mythos.
So, in this post, I'll do a bit of digging, and trace the evolutionary trajectory of that claim.
Reading my Lotus Lantern Summaries first will be quite helpful, but if you haven't, I'll be linking to these posts when they become relevant.
The Start of It All
-As far as I know, JTTW novel is the first textual source that said "Erlang is JE's nephew". Specifically, in SWK's pre-battle taunts, he commented that "Hey, I heard JE's sister got chummy with Yang the mortal and gave birth to a son, is that you?" (JTTW Chapter 6)
-The same chapter also mentions that Erlang cleaved open the Peach Mountain to save his mom, implying she was imprisoned as a punishment for her forbidden relationship.
-The other roughly contemporary source, the Precious Scroll of Erlang, expanded on that story: here, Erlang's mom is Lady Yunhua (云花, literally "Cloud-Flower"), part of a trio of three sisters born of "Father Cloud" and "Mother Rain", who embodied the "Three Flowers", a Daoist internal alchemy jargon.
-She is also mentioned to be an immortal maiden of the Dipper-Ox Palace, where Queen Mother of the West resided. Erlang's dad, Yang Tianyou, is the incarnate of a "Golden Boy" acolyte, and they pretty much got insta-married after Yunhua revealed her true identity.
-In the Precious Scroll, Erlang's mom was also put under a mountain by SWK, and he went to QMoW to ask for his mother's whereabouts, pulling off the "carrying the mountains & chasing the suns" stunt on his way to rescue her.
-Pretty different from what you know, right? Here, Erlang was an only child, his mother was never explicitly said to be imprisoned under a mountain by JE's orders, and his father wasn't a run-of-the-mill mortal either.
-So what changed?
Erlang in the Premodern Lotus Lantern stories
-Well, the Lotus Lantern story cycle happened, and Erlang's own mom-saving story got copied over to his nephew Chenxiang.
-However, in all except one iteration of the Lotus Lantern tales, Erlang's parentage was never stated: this iteration is what I called Lotus Lantern 2.0, in which Erlang's own mom-saving story was canon too.
-It did leave out the "SWK put his mom under a mountain" part, though, despite lifting the name Yang Tianyou (and Lady Yunhua too, though her name in this story was Yuntai, "Cloud-Terrace") from the Precious Scroll.
-Similarly, the Lady of Mt. Hua/San Shengmu in all but one iteration of these stories wasn't punished by the Celestial Host, and Erlang putting her under a mountain was entirely his personal decision.
-In the one story that did, it was because she had whipped up a storm and ruined the mortals' crops while she was going after Liu the scholar.
-In fact, in all these pre-modern Lotus Lantern stories, San Shengmu and Liu's relationship was greenlit + Divinely Ordained by the Celestial Host.
The One TV Series to Change it All
-Yep, it's my childhood memory, the 2000s Lotus Lantern + Prequel shows that started the "Erlang's mom was Yaoji" thing!
-Here, she fell in love with the mortal Yang Tianyou after he sacrificed his own heart to save her, Erlang had an older brother named Yang Jiao who was killed together with his father on JE's orders, who also killed Yaoji via exposure to the Ten Suns after her release.
-That last part was probably inspired by the story of Nv Chou in the Books of Mountains and Seas, who was...this random sorceress/witch that got scorched to death by the Ten Suns.
-For a long time, I thought this was it: Erlang's mom being Yaoji was something the show-writers just pulled out of thin air, and entirely their original invention.
-Then I came across this little tidbit in Vol. 3 of the Tang dynasty text, 墉城集仙录...
-Translation: "Lady Yunhua was the 23th daughter of QMoW and the sister of Lady Wang of Taizhen, and her name is Yaoji."
-The last character, 华, is different from the 花 of Yunhua in the Precious Scroll story, but these two characters could often be used interchangeably.
-It must also be noted that the similar name/title is just a coincidence, and mythos-wise, Yaoji's legends never converged with Erlang's mom-saving story at all.
-But yeah, the Lotus Lantern + Prequel show writers probably saw the two names, went "Won't it be neat if we merge them into a single character?", and thus the most influential "urban legend" of Chinese mythos/folklore was born.
(Honestly, with the way myths and folklore evolve, maybe this version of the story would become canonized too after a hundred years or so!)
Edit: Check out the comments——@fate-magical-girls has informed me that the "Erlang's mom being Yaoji" thing had an earlier origin in the 1987 Teochew opera 三姐下凡!
Seems like Lotus Lantern Prequel has taken a lot more inspirations from said opera, aside from that bit: Erlang's three-pronged, double-bladed spear being a three-headed flood dragon he subdued, for example.
