Potion Pt2
Yandere Benny Weir x reader
I only right sfw, feel free to request! Not proof read.
Benny fiddled with the pink bottle in his pocket as he approached the *object* of his obsessèd affection.
"Hey, Y/N." He said, sliding into the seat next to her in science class, the first class of the day for the two and they were the first ones in the class for some convenient reason; Ethan and Rory were also in this class but they hadn't arrived yet.
"Hey, Benny!" She smiled, setting her phone down. "Where's your sidekick?" The girl joked, nudging him with her elbow.
"Looks like he's not here yet." Benny shrugged back, a tint of pink flooded to his cheeks and a tingly feeling went to where her elbow had touched him.
He noticed the water bottle sitting on the table in front of Y/N; the perfect tool.
"Hey, do you mind if I take a drink?" He pointed to the water bottle. "I'll take the lid off so you don't get my cooties." Y/N giggled a little, he loved her giggle;
"Sure." Then she slid the bottle over to Benny. " I put lemonade in it though so be warned."
Benny nodded in response, slowly undoing the lid and taking a sip. Y/N returned to her phone, no longer paying attention to the boy next to her, giving Benny the chance to slip just a little bit of his potion into her drink, then screw the lid back on.
"Thanks." He said as he slid back in his chair, trying to act nonchalant.
"No worries," Y/N didn't even look up from her phone. He was in the clear.
Benny spent the whole rest of class waiting for Y/N to take a sip of her drink. Just a sip was all he needed for his plan to start taking effect.
Eventually, towards the last few minutes of class, she took a drink from her bottle. Benny grabbed her chin, making her turn to look at him just before a pink flash went through her eyes.
She was his.
After that all he had to do was find ways to gradually feed her more of the potion until it was gone.
The more he gave her the more she started to love him back. She was like putty in his hands, much like he was putty in hers.
He loved her so much he started to get ahead of himself, they were already dating but he wanted more. Benny couldn't stop the lingering feeling of not wanting anyone to talk to her, not even Ethan.
And Ethan knew exactly what Benny was up to. It couldn't've possibly been a coincidence that right after Benny made the love potion, the two began going out.
It was like the two were playing capture the flag with Y/N as the flag. Back and forth the two would try to get Y/Ns attention, Benny often achieving more than Ethan.
But really, what could Ethan do? He didn't have any magic. He didn't know how to break the spell. He couldn't do anything.
Except, he could tell Grandma.
It'd be hard with how territorial Benny was being at the moment though. Benny wasn't even letting him over to his house. He'd use excuses like;
"Oh! We're getting new flooring!"
"Sorry, we're not home now!"
And sometimes just blatantly telling him he can't come over.
And all the while Y/N was consuming more and more of Benny's potion.
After a few weeks, Ethan was finally able to get Y/N alone.
"Ethan?" He had pulled her from the hall into the janitors closet. The pink in her eyes was blazing. Ethan grabbed her hand, hoping to see a vision.
What flashes through his mind was confusing- a view of date and hearts and P.D.A. At the end of the vision Ethan could hear a few words and then Y/Ns eyes changed back to their original color. Ethan coudnt make out the words though.
During this, Y/N was getting worried.
"Ethan... I should probably get going now... Benny is probably looking for me."
"Don't go to him!" Ethan shouts. Y/N flinches.
"What do you mean?"
"It's... hard to explain... but just stay here for a few more minutes..." Y/N nodded but her agreeable nature didn't last long. A few minutes later Benny could be heard yelling for Y/N out in the hall. Her eyes flash and she reaches for the door handle.
"Y/N please! Just a few more minutes..." Ethan held her arms tighter. Then, the door opened. The two fell out of the closet, Ethan landing on top of Y/N. Benny stood above them, a deep scowl on his face.
He grabbed Y/Ns hand and yanked her up, shoving Benny to the side.
"Stay out of it." He said as he walked away with Y/N wrapping herself around his arm.

"Ready, Young Yejun, now it's your turn to do your duty."
Already in the workshop on the main floor, Dominic prepares the tools and materials for the procedure. But first, the old man looks at Tempo and Yejun, as if a challenge he wants to take.
"Ready, Young Yejun, now it's your turn to do your duty."
"What?!"- They both exclaim with a loud shout.
"Why not? The young man is a watchmaker too, and I see a lot of determination and passion in his eyes. "the confident old man expresses excitedly.
"... After being humiliated, trusting Yejun is complicated for me."
Yejun looks into the lady's eyes, and she, sees the amateur man's eyes of regret and also, determination. He wants to win Tempo's trust for the trouble he caused and also, he is in giving his all in showing his skills in front of the lady rabbit and famous watchmaker, who marked an important role in the culture of the 21st century.
Tempo lets out a sigh. Yejun won. The maestro looks at Dominic and the old man, receiving the answer, hands the watch to the young man, covering his hands with his own.
"Show who you are, in front of this young lady."-Encourages the gentleman craftsman with a gentle pat on the back.
"Yes," Yejun nods.
The man sits down and puts on tight gloves. He proceeds with the external cleaning of the watch with special liquid, cloths and brushes. Once clean, he separates the cover with the watch, to clean the inside.
Next, Yejun checks the watch. First of all, he thinks it is in good condition, but he performs an external examination by delicately touching the hands, the surface and listens to the gears.
"Miss, according to my point of view, the watch itself is in good condition. I don't think I need to open it. Besides...I know it's very delicate to over touch it if you yourself don't know its details and consequences when handling it."
"That's fine."
"Okay, I'll check the cover."
Yejun checks the crack along with the heart-shaped jewel. To ensure his diagnosis, he made three detailed checks so as not to miss a clue, using his pocket monocular.
"The jewel is in perfect condition. I don't see anything abnormal both inside and outside. What I do, is that the cuts that exposes a great depth of the hidden jewel. And inside, I see a lot of sparkles. If you like, I give you my monocular."-Yejun hands the object to Tempo. She politely receives it, for she has the ability to control her field of vision.
The maestro picks up the cover and checks the scratches. And inside, she sees many images in small light bulbs, all of them are Alicia's memories that are embedded in the heart jewel. This gave her the hypothesis that the Crown ( Memories) was attached to her Heart, the jewel, deep inside. And the pressure exerted by the Heart, the memories needed to be released little by little, especially when Tempo's Body, Soul and Aura reacts to a stimulus. That is the origin of Tempo's instability! She finally found a link to her problem, even if it is only a theory and she didn't realize it for many years. The rabbit maestro tells her hypothesis to the two watchmakers, and they, surprised, could only listen as the maestro changed her mood.
"I can't believe that during my more than 6000 years as a maestro I didn't notice this detail!"-says the lady, taking steps and many turns to understand the problem. The watchmakers looked at each other, as the revelation also gave them much surprise, understanding that the appearance of the watch is due to the essence of Alicia's being inside it.
"Boy, finally this confusing issue of the watch was cleared up. And tell me, what is the solution to this problem?"
"..." A silence abounded in the place. Yejun did not have good news, but everyone present wanted to know.
"Miss Alicia, my conclusion from this analysis is the following: in my point of view, if the watch is disassembled, everything inside it will be expelled and I can't tell you what the consequences will be, but I don't think it needs to be fixed more than the cover, since I don't hear anything abnormal and in touch, everything feels in good condition. As for the cracks, I will fill them for the damage and it will be as good as new, at least from the outside. But, if you suffer from that problem of your memories, unfortunately that will not stop because that is already a factor outside the watch."- Yejun explains, little regretful of not being able to help the poor lady more. With a gentle pat on Yejun's shoulder, Tempo thanks him for much more, for being able to understand a little more about herself
"I can't demand more than the impossible. You have been a great help to me."-Tempo, hugs the man as a gesture of thanks. A tingles on the man's forehead.

CW: imprisoned, chained, arguing, swearing, worry, past trauma
A/N: I started a new series. Post Magician's Bait, my vision for Records of the Torrent Watchers is an episodic fantasy mystery series featuring Luc Epsilona, Reese Takari, and Damian Caenum on various adventures up and down the River Torrent.
While investigating a series of murders, the Watchers and their charge are kidnapped for reasons unrelated to their case. Or is it?
----------
“This is all my fault.”
“For the last time, Luc, you had no way of seeing this coming.”
Luc scoffed, the chains binding him to the wall rattling as he shook his head. “I can trace the exact trail of decisions that led to this point. If just one of them were different, we would not be here.”
“Celestials…” Damian groaned, “how many times must I repeat myself before the words get through your skull? You. Didn’t. Know. And even if one of those decisions were different, how do you know we wouldn’t have ended up here anyway?”
“Don’t ask me to see the damned big picture. And don’t you dare say that we are supposed to be here.”
“I wasn’t going to, but now that you mention it—”
“Your Highness, with all due respect, shut the fuck up.”
Damian narrowed his eyes at the Watcher. They were chained to opposite walls in the same cell underneath who-knows-where by who-knows-what. Luc stared at the cuff on his wrist, as if looking at it would force it to unlock, jaw clenched, hands curled into fists.
No matter how much Luc insisted otherwise, their current predicament was not his fault. If anything, it was Damian’s. He'd been the one to insist on accompanying Luc and Reese out of Caenum to investigate a string of murders. He had wanted to step away from city life for a little while, and being with a Watcher and his apprentice-who-insisted-she-was-not-an-apprentice seemed at the time the safest way to do that.
How could they have known they would get kidnapped barely a week into the journey?
“You’re worried about Reese, aren’t you?”
Luc glanced at the cell door, a thick wood slab full of splinters. “They didn’t put her with us,” he muttered, “Why didn’t they put her with us? Are the cells segregated? Is she with other female prisoners? Do they want her for something specific? Celestials, I don’t know what they’re doing with her.”
“You think they know about… y’know….” Damian’s eyes flicked to the cell door, uncertain if anyone was outside listening. If their captors didn’t know about Reese’s heritage, it would be best if they didn’t find out.
“It would explain a lot,” Luc said quietly. He ran a hand through his hair, the chains rattling ominously. “I know some of the people involved were never caught or identified. But as far as I know, we’re nowhere near Zariya. Unless they fled out towards the Torrent when the operation was shut down.”
He hissed through his teeth, eyes on the floor. “I hope they don’t. I really hope they don’t. She doesn’t tell me everything, but from what her father and de Silv said…” the blood suddenly drained from his face. “Oh celesitals… de Silv’s going to kill me if he finds out I let this happen.”
“De Silv?” Damian asked quizzically. The name sounded elven.
“Octavian de Silv. An elf who rescued her five years ago from the people who’d kidnapped her due to…” Luc gestured vaguely, indicating that he also suspected listeners. “He and I have a… complicated history. He had been missing for over a decade when he showed up at my office in Caenum when Reese and her father moved back there. He explained her situation, and asked me to take care of them as a favor.”
“Why couldn’t he do it?”
“Didn’t say. He disappeared shortly after. I haven’t seen or heard of him or his partner, a hunter by the name Draven Cozenson, since.” Luc sighed. “I swore that I’d keep her safe. And I did that by keeping track of her and training her to use that knife of hers. Which led to her following me on investigations, which led to me teaching her forensics due to her asking questions. And now everyone thinks she’s my apprentice.”
Damian raised an eyebrow. “‘Thinks’? So she’s not actually your apprentice? I thought you two were joking about that.”
“Ugh…” Luc slumped, five years of exasperation and exhaustion etched across his face. “Unofficially?”
“What does your own mentor think?” Damian asked, smirking.
“When I figured out what was happening about two years in, I sent him an apology letter for all the stress I put him through. He finds the whole thing hilarious.”
Damian chuckled. “She can handle herself. I’m sure she’s doing just fine. Perhaps she already escaped and is currently looking for us.”
“I wish I could share your optimism.”
“I can be optimistic enough for the both of us.”
Luc exhaled slowly, eyes on the door again. “If you insist.”

Aftermath
My bid for innocence in Milgramblr.
Or, more accurately, my bid that @good-beans started "Order of Attack". Sure, I sent the ask, but Beans created the concept of Eyepatch Amane.
I maintain that if I truly started it, Amane would have only been a bit scuffed. And here is my original vision as proof. (Uh, it might be tainted by 10 months of writing whump...)
Not proofread, but @stuffedsand and @purgemarchlockdown helped me brainstorm some of the dialogue.
(1089 words)
Wait, it's over a thousand words? It was only 500 words when I went to put the finishing touches!
Oops.
(This is queued for the 4am slot, but I will reblog with a poll once I'm awake.)
(Cw: canon-typical violence, cult mentality, reference to child abuse; Amane is a bad patient; medical information may be inaccurate)
-
A collision with the wall. A few whacks to the head. That was all Amane would get for now. That was all fine because she could barely move after that anyway.
The pain was all-consuming, unlike anything Amane had ever experienced before. She had never been this close to losing consciousness. Was she even conscious still?
The glare from Kotoko's eyes still burned in her. Unfathomable malice directed at a subject with no hope of redemption, but also a weak subject who could be tossed aside for later.
All she could do was wait for her proper turn like a good girl.
Kotoko had more pressing matters to deal with, after all. That being Fuuta, who was screaming and kicking for her to stop. No wonder he was first; Kotoko must have thought he needed to learn the lesson faster. But Amane could hardly register what was happening to him, except that it was ten times as brutal as any punishment she had ever faced, and that a similar fate might await her.
But Kotoko did not finish because the door slammed open, and Amane returned to her shell of absolute, utter, intense agony.
Next thing she knew, Kazui was kneeling by her side, guiding her to lie down, asking her things that didn't make sense. Fuuta was lying limply on the floor, covered in blood. Kotoko was gone.
What had Kotoko said? Something about delivering punishments in order?
"Mahiru san…" Amane muttered. "All alone…"
"I know, but I can't leave you two here without anyone else to watch."
-
Truly, this pain was nothing. Amane's head was still spinning a day later, and a high-pitched sound rang in her ears. She tried to blink away the morning blurriness, but it refused to give way to clarity. A deep breath triggered the pain of a thousand bruises.
And yet she had gotten off lightly. The others could have died, or so she heard; nobody would give her more details than that.
She had to go see for herself. But the moment she got herself to her feet, she sensed the figure of a certain Kirisaki Shidou looming over her.
"Amane, what do you think you are doing? Go back to sleep." Ugh, how patronizing.
"I need to talk to my friends." She tried to her voice cold and calculated so Shidou wouldn't dare dismiss her, but she couldn't control the shaking.
"They are in no condition to talk. Let them rest. Do not bother them."
"Bother them? Surely they would like to see a friendly face after everything that transpired."
"You need to rest too. You shouldn't be walking around while concussed."
"I can walk around just fine."
"You'll only make your condition worse and slow down your recovery."
Amane glared at Shidou with as much willpower as she could muster. "Are you really going to drag me into your immoral practice? Now?"
In turn, Shidou sighed. "This isn't up for debate. Go back to sleep."
"Let me talk to them." It took all she had not to scream at him.
"You can do that after you rest." The desire to raise their voices seemed mutual.
As Amane opened her mouth to retort, dark spots began to swim in her vision. She wished she had the strength to tell Shidou to back off, but instead, he guided her back down to rest.
-
"Let me talk to them," Amane insisted.
"I am not going to let you risk your health over a conversation."
"I have proven that I can sit up for five minutes without falling over."
"I never asked you to do that. Go back and lie down."
"You said they could have died."
That caught Shidou's attention. "Your point is?"
"You are wasting a lot of your effort on me when they clearly need it more."
"Amane, you aren't making sense."
"I need to talk to them. What if they die, and I miss my chance to get closure because I'm resting?"
Not the most logical argument, but it seemed to strike a nerve in Shidou. "Fine. Five minutes with each of them. That's it."
-
Mahiru resembled a mummy, or half of one, with all the seemingly fresh bandages wrapped around her. She was well on the way to an early demise. Amane had half a mind to warn her to reject the doctor's evil work, but it seemed those words would fall on deaf ears. She had to make this time count.
"Mahiru-san… I'm sorry."
"Hmm…" Mahiru stirred slightly, eyelids quivering open. "Ama…"
"It's okay… don't push it… I just needed to say… I wish I was there with you. So you would not have to face those trials alone."
"But…" Mahiru pursed her lips, seemingly to say Fuuta's name.
"Fuuta-san was found by Kazui-san. I only wish you weren't alone." Maybe only was the wrong word. Amane leaned forward. "I wish that you won't die soon. I would miss you so much."
It took Mahiru a moment to process, but then she smiled slightly. "Thanks… Amane-chan…"
-
Fuuta was lucky that Kazui had intervened. But still, he was missing an eye, and it sounded like he could hardly breathe.
Rumor had it that he could have died if nobody stepped in. They had found Mahiru in critical condition, but they could have found Fuuta dead.
And then what would have become of Amane? No doubt, if left alone with Kotoko, she would have had it the worst. And if she had gone to visit Mahiru instead…
Amane shook away the thought. She only had a few precious moments to speak to Fuuta. He must have noticed her shadow because his good eye was now open and looking wearily at her.
"Fuuta-san, I'm sorry."
"For wh…"
"I was too weak to stop Kotoko-san. I was there in the room, but I couldn't-"
"No…"
What? That caught Amane off guard. Fuuta continued while she tried to find the words again.
"I'm… sorry… couldn't stop her…"
"Oh, no, it wasn't your fault. I-"
"Wasn't… yours… either…"
This conversation was going in circles, and time was slipping away.
"I just hope we can have a real conversation again someday." One that wasn't tainted by pain and suffering.
-
Amane tried to ignore the pounding in her head and drift off to sleep. She knew her suffering paled in comparison to Mahiru and Fuuta, but she had never known anything like this before.
She had never been this sleepless before. And yet this trial too would come to pass.

The bat and the wolverine
(!!!working draft!!!)
Parings: Original character x Logan Howlett, Original character x Bruce Wayne, Logan Howlett x Bruce Wayne, Original Character x Logan Howlett x Bruce Wayne (eventually)
Summary: Starr (Trix) Baker-Foley better know as The Trixter was like many mutants living within the safety of Charles Xavier’s school for the gifted. A job that kept her busy and job that drove her crazy. Funny how trying to teach an art class for gifted teenagers was harder than trying to save the world. So sometimes she needed an escape. Somewhere only she knew about and only she could get too. A whole different universe.
warnings/tags. 18+ (eventually), fluff, angst, smut (maybe), canon typical violence, cursing/profanity, romance, open relationships, two boyfriends, jealousy, pining, slow burn, lovers to strangers, enemies to unliking friends to lovers, (More will be added)
Chapters (tbd)
Words (so far) 691
An: currently flying by the seat of my pants here. Sorry for any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. (no beta we die like Jason Todd) This is just a small dabble into the story I want to tell and I’m looking for any and all feedback/interest to make me actually sit down and give this the time and attention it deserves.
About Trix’s x-gene/powers:
Has the powers of reality manipulation. She can change her surroundings, people, things, etc. to whatever she wants. (Think the scarlet witch, unoriginal I know) Powers works better with smaller areas and only a handful of people at a time. She could change a room but not the whole mansion
Also has the powers of dimensional teleportation but she can only teleport herself and nothing else.
Her powers don’t work well out of her “original universe” but she is still able to use them in small doses.
Selfish, she was being selfish. That’s what Jean had said to her when Starr tried to see her own boyfriend. Boyfriend was a strong word. It made a lump form in her throat. She punched a bit harder against her target. A small hum of praise was thrown in her direction which only made her mind slip again. Thinking back to a familiar hum in her ears.
Logan left. Disappeared for months. No. A year. It shouldn’t affect her like it did. Starr barely dodged the sharp skillful right hook thrown in her direction. Logan was known for slipping out at night. Leaving for a good couple of weeks but he’d come back. He always came back. Like a stray, crawling back into her bed. The sad part was she’d let him. Even now.
A foot connected with the back of her knee as she lost her balance falling against the rubber mat with a growl. She doesn’t get up like she normally would just laid there in her own frustration.
“You're not focused.” A calm voice broke through the storm that was her mind for a moment, bringing her back to the present.
Bruce.
Calm, gentle, calculated, paranoid, mind numbing. She could keep going but instead Starr flipped over against that black mat staring up at the high cave ceiling catching her breath.
Bruce let out a hum again. This time it was one of questions as he looked her over. Questions he’d never actually ask, probably knowing the answers already. Starr could feel that sharp icy gaze against her skin, it made a shiver run through her. She shrugged it off by tearing off the protective wrapping from her knuckles, throwing it forgetfully across the floor.
“I’m done.” She mumbled, rubbing the sweat from her forehead. Bruce didn’t respond. His always light footsteps stopped next to her making his imposing figure stand in her field of vision. He was analyzing, it made her scrunched up her nose.
“Stop that.”
“I’m not doing anything.” His voice level.
Fucking ass
“You know what I mean.”
He did. Always seemed he was the only one. Well besides Logan. Her fists balled up unconsciously, a moment Bruce noted.
His well sculpted yet abused body sunk down sitting crisscrossed at her side.
Those trademarked Wayne blues still made her skin crawl until her own eyes locked with his. Like the Atlantic meeting the Pacific.
A light touch of his knuckles brushing against her side in a way that was asking for a window. Starr let out a deep sigh closing her eyes thinking that would clear her elegant like memory. It never did.
“I’m being… emotional again.” She had to take a pause to find the right words. Those knuckles turned into fingertips pressing small circles into her sore side. Bruce nodded, not needing any actual explanation from her.
Starr’s eyes finally opened again after a long tense silence. Her head tilted is just enough to finally look at that unforgettably sharp jawline. Sweat stuck to his body in a thin sparkling sheet. He mindlessly pushed her dark hair from his face. It was longer than he’d like it, something she would probably have to fix once he remembers who lives behind the mask. She didn’t want to admit how badly she wanted to just reach up and give it a tug. Maybe distract herself from that man who didn’t even want to put a label on what they were with the one who’s patiently waiting for her to do the same. Starr swallowed that back down instead letting her hand trace over one of deeper scars across his leg.
“I can have Duke cover your route.” Bruce’s voice broke the well crafted silence. The soothing motions on her side stopped making her want to press against him.
“No, I’m fine.”
He nodded with some hesitation. It was a losing game to argue with her as stubborn as she was.
“Shower?” He suggested instead.
It was Starr’s turn to nod.
“Together?” Her voice raised up teasing, which was met with the smallest twitch in the corner of the dark knight's mouth.
“Together.” He agreed.

Take My Whiskey Neat (Part 2)
Summary: Logan and his newfound daughter take a trip to Alkali Lake. One is in search of who he was before 1979. The other is looking for who her parents were before she joined Charles Xavier's school. Ghosts come back to haunt them both. How will they act when faced with these challenges? Part 1 Part 2Tags: father-daughter fluff, angst, canon typical violence, creepy stalker mentioned in first section, broken bones, use of firearms, use of an original character Word Count: 20k+ A/N: I do not own any of the characters mentioned except for Amaris Howlett. The divider credits are in my master list. Images found on Pinterest. Amaris' face claim is Devery Jacobs. Also, if you think something in here is written wrong (when it comes to the heritage of the character) PLEASE TELL ME!
Leaving the school hadn't been something she planned on being a forever thing. There would always be a part of her that stayed with the school, and it with her, beyond just the memories tied with it. Danger room sessions with her fellow X-men, crying to Storm when a boy broke her heart for the first time, supporting Jean when she thought she blew her chances with Scott, asking Charles why he gave her chance after chance every time she accidentally hurt somebody else. Of course, teaching the kids was another fond memory of hers.
Though none were more fonder than the sleepless nights she stayed up on the rooftop with him.
She was brought out of her thoughts when she saw Logan signaling to her, pointing at the next exit sign about a mile away. They had been driving for a good portion of the day before winding up in Toledo, Ohio. With the sun setting behind them, Amaris wondered if Logan wanted to continue riding along toward the Canadian border or if he wanted to find a place to stop for the night. They still had quite a way to drive to reach Alberta, let alone to get to the border of the countries.
Logan revved the motorcycle engine as he led Amaris and Jeep to the exit lane, aiming to find a place to lie low for the night. His mind had been whirling most of the drive, flooded with the memories of his life, the things he began to remember. The images that felt the most vivid were of him and Amaris when she was a baby. They were the warmest in his mind, a time of peace and comfort, along with the woman he saw. He couldn't believe he had a family, or that his memories and time with them had been stolen from him.
However, other memories flooded his mind. Brief glimpses of him in army uniforms, holding guns and other period clothing flooded his mind. So many visions of war clawed within his mind. He can remember certain scenes of different wars he had been in, remembering the look on other people's faces. He saw blood splattered across the floor of forests and pastures and heard bullets flying and ricocheting off of people and their environment.
What bothered him more was the pounding he heard in his head heavily outweighed the roaring of the engine of the motorcycle. He needed off of the hunk of metal, at least for a few hours.
The Jeep roared behind him as Logan found a little side-of-the-highway hotel to stay at, one of those big commercial ones. The big red sign advertised eighty dollars a night. It was the perfect pitstop for their long journey, and with a bar across the street, Logan knew he would find some peace and quiet in his mind.
He found a space to park the motorcycle, and Amaris pulled the Jeep up alongside him. As he stood up, the motorcycle creaked as it rose up into its normal fashion. Logan rubbed the palms of his hands, hearing his knuckles pop as if metal rubbed against each other. He watched as Amaris hopped out of the jeep, stuffing the keys into the pocket of her jeans. Neon lights began to illuminate the stretch of road they found themselves on before music from the bar began to play.
You are in charge of the rooms, kid, I need a drink. He tilted his head just enough to crack his neck before turning around and crossing the road.
Amaris rolled her eyes, grabbing both of their bags out of the jeep. She found her way to the main office, entering with the sound of little bells alerting the receptionist of her arrival. A little television was on a news channel.
"As of tonight, the New York police department, the FBI, and other governing agencies still do not know what happened on Ellis Island or Liberty Island last week. An up-and-coming group named The Friends of Humanity has deemed the act a mutant resistance, calling for a mutant registry. At this time, The Friends of Humanity have not been backed up by a governing body."
The receptionist hummed. We're better off without mutants. Freaks. The comment was made to himself, but with her slightly enhanced senses, Amaris was able to hear it.
If only he knew she was one of the few mutants responsible for the destruction on Liberty Island.
Or how many people she and the X-Men saved that night. Mostly the X-Men. All she managed to do was destroy parts of the museum and get her neck snapped by Sabertooth.
The man watched her as she approached the desk, setting the bags down at her feet. I need a room please, two queens.
He eyed her up and down, staring at her a little too hard for her liking. He looked down at a room registry he had, looking at the options. I can offer you a room with a king... and I'm not just talking about the mattress honey. He winked at her, smiling a half smile.
It appeared he had been missing the majority of his teeth, and the ones he still had were filled in with silver fillings. Amaris did her best to hide her physical repulsion from the heavier-set man. Sorry, I don't feel like sharing a bed with my brother. She remained firm in her response, though she could tell this didn't deter the man.
He looked back at the list, then clicked his tongue. hmm, I dunno...
Amaris looked over at the screen again, seeing the report about the mutants. About her, and her father, and her friends... her family.
Just, tell me you don't service... them... here. Speaking against mutants, against incredibly talented people like her students and her friends was something she would never do. It felt as if she had betrayed them with her words, but she knew others had to do the same thing.
He looked at the screen, then back to her. He nodded, writing in the document before him. It seems as if I do have a room left, with two queen beds. He produced two keys as Amaris handed him cash. What is the last name for the reservation?
Amaris squatted down, picking the bags back up. Howlett. She grabbed the keys after replying to him, making a quick exit, and turning in the direction of the hotel room. She closed her eyes for a moment, shaking the thoughts out of her mind. Calling her kind out like that just to gain the favor of the receptionist in exchange for a dry place to sleep for a while.
What would the Professor say?
Amaris had found the hotel room, entered it, and set their bags down on the beds. With nothing much left to do, she made sure to lock the door behind her, before entering the bathroom. She flipped the light on, the stale yellow-white light showed her the dingy countertop, small shower, and equally small toilet. She removed her jean jacket, turning and tossing it onto one of the beds. She began to run her hands through her hair, pulling the ponytail holder out.
Her hair was rather long, having kept to the traditions she read about growing up. She knew from an early age she had been Indigenous, mostly thanks to Charles Xavier who dug into her mind to see where she had come from. With his help, she was able to read and research about her native ancestors, the Blackfoot people.
Her hair was the biggest connection she had to her ancestors and her family. As it relaxed behind her, her hair stretched down to almost her waistline. The ends of her hair looked a little wind-sharpened. Nothing her hairbrush couldn't handle.
Her hair was the least of her concerns right now.
She could hear the door of the room creak open. Knowing she had locked it behind her and having both keys in her jeans pockets, she knew Logan wasn't around. She stayed facing the mirror, as the sink and counter area was exposed to the room behind her. She took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly as she listened to her surroundings.
She quickly snapped around, grabbing the wrist of the receptionist, pinning it backward to the point the man had grabbed his arm and began sulking backward. Next time, pal, I hope she isn't as merciful as I am.
He began to plead with her, sobbing "no's" between winces and groans.
Amaris flashed her teeth at him, as she growled her slightly sharpened canines shimmered in the dull light of the bathroom. Pull some shit like that again, and I swear to you, you won't be able to run back home with your tail between your legs. She then continued to walk him back toward the door, pinning his wrist back even a little further. She opened the door, making sure to lock the door behind her. Now, be a good little boy, and make like a retiree heading to Florida. She let go of his wrist, watching as he grabbed at it and held it close to his chest, turning around and making his way back to the office.
She knew it wasn't safe to be by herself right now, and she had a feeling Logan could easily get into some trouble here. She stuffed her hands in her pockets, walked through the little parking lot, and crossed the street.
The music grew louder, as did the sounds of voices flowing out of the bar. Logan sat at the corner of the bar, puffing on a new cigar he had tucked away in his jacket, holding a glass of whiskey in his hand before him on the bar top. His eyes darted from the glass to the mirrored-back bar watching the young woman enter the bar, walking up to his side and taking a seat. He turned to look at her, his fingers reaching out to take a strand of her hair between his index and middle finger. Has it always been this long?
Amaris pointed at Logan's glass when she made eye contact with the bartender before turning back to her father. Ever since we met last week. She really should have tied it back up again. I don't normally wear it down. It gets in the way.
Logan huffed a little as the bartender refilled his glass and brought one out to Amaris. He took another puff of his cigar, letting its smoke fill his throat and lungs before blowing the smoke out. I'm not a good person.
Amaris grabbed her glass, scooting it closer to her, the tips of her fingers covering the lip of the glass, holding her face with her other hand. What do you mean? She asked him.
He brought his glass up to his lips, swallowing the amber liquid in one gulp, setting the empty glass on the bar top. The burn was something he thought would bother him more than the conversation at hand, though here he was. I need to figure out what happened to me, what led me to where I am today. He tapped the ashes of his cigar into the tray sitting between them before he looked back at her. When the Professor...he gestured with two fingers to his temple, I saw things that I've only seen in the movies... and more.
Amaris looked at him puzzled. Her lips parted, intending to speak. However, she was caught off guard when a hand grabbed her head, forcing it into the bartop.
A shotgun was loaded, cocked as the hotel receptionist stood with two men. One of the men held Amaris' face into the bartop. Logan stood up quickly, his claws exposed. Amaris braced herself on the bartop, her bone claws were exposed, though with her hands not positioned in the right way, the two long claws that would appear at her knuckles were now forced through her palms. She groaned against the pain of the claws in their unnatural position and the sensation of the bridge of her nose grinding against the old liquor-soaked wooden bar. I told you she was a mutant! She attacked me at the hotel!
Some of the bargoers left the bar quickly, grabbing their items and leaving the scene. Some of the others stayed behind, unsure which side they would jump into.
Logan looked at the three men, pointing a hand toward them. You want to fight a mutant, fine. Fight me, leave her out of this.
The receptionist pointed the shotgun at Logan. You must be the brother she mentioned about. Mr. Big Man In Charge. I can see where she gets her sour attitude from.
Logan looked between the three men. He slashed at the shotgun, though not enough of it to disable the weapon. Kill the mutant bitch, Frank.
Amaris stepped on the man's foot, causing his grip on her to loosen a little. He dropped his head at the same time she threw hers backward. The back of her head and his nose collided. Amaris spun around, maneuvering the man around and throwing him behind the bar. Logan slashed at the gun again, destroying it as he eyed the clerk. Amaris moved around Logan, ducking down and kicking the man's feet out from underneath him, knocking the third man off of his feet and onto the ground. She was able to manipulate her claws back into her forearms, grabbing a fistful of the man's shirt at his neck, and standing over him.
Logan grabbed the other man by his jacket, Don't get me wrong, bub. She can have a sour attitude, and we share that. But that mutant bitch isn't my sister. Logan's eyes shifted back and forth as he looked down on the other man. He could smell just how terrified he was from the encounter. That's my daughter.
Amaris heard the words, though as rough and gruff sounding as he threatened the other man, Amaris instantly felt emotionally pulled to Logan. To her father. The man who just a few minutes prior stated he wasn't a good man. How did those words taste now?
Now, you just ruined my night, and I lost my cigar. Why don't I repay the favor by ruining that smug grin of yours? Logan brandished the claws from his right hand, a sinister glint in his eye as he smiled down at the man.
Amaris turned to look back at Logan. She knew they had to be better than that, to give mutants a fighting chance. Dad, we can't go around mutilating humans because they threatened us.
Logan held his eye contact with the heavier-set receptionist, shaking his head slightly. Mutilating? No. Plastic Surgery.
Amaris looked back down at the man below her. She let go of his collar, standing up straighter and running a hand through her hair. I think they got the picture.
Amaris turned to look at her father, though was met with a blade to her chest, right below her heart. The first man she tossed over the bar and came out fighting again. She groaned, feeling the blade begin to move as her muscles, tendons, and tissues began to regenerate before gripping the knife and pulling it out of her chest. That was not very nice. That hurt. She rubbed the spot where he had stabbed her, often finding open wounds extremely itchy as they healed. The man looked down at where her wound would have been, mortified as he watched it heal almost instantly with very little blood staining her shirt.
The man who had been lying on the ground had rolled over, getting to his feet, and ran out of the bar as quickly as he could. Logan stared at the man in front of him. Okay fat boy, you have about three seconds to get your glory hole friend here out of this place and go home before my patience decides to take a vacation.
Amaris nodded, still holding the knife in her hand. She bent her elbow in front of her, running the blade between the fabric of her shirt, wiping the blood away. Trust me, running home to Mama is the best-case scenario here. She whispered to the man, Frank, smirking a little.
The Howlett's watched the men run away in fear, grabbing onto each other as they hollered, leaving the establishment. Logan turned to look at Amaris, his once stone-cold facade cracked as Amaris found the concern that filled his eyes. She nodded a few times, waving her hand at him, letting him know she was fine. She put the knife in her boot, keeping it as a souvenir from the encounter. She walked back to her seat, picked the chair back up, and set it where she found it.
The bartender threw a rag over his shoulder, crossing his arms. He looked between the two mutants, shaking his head back and forth. Money is money, I don't care where it comes from. But I can't have you two here. Not because you're mutants, but because your presence has already drawn too much excitement for one night.
Logan grumbled under his breath walking out of the door in front of Amaris. She nodded, leaving some cash on the counter and grabbing the bottle he left where they had been sitting before following suit behind Logan. She looked down at her shirt, her fingers running over the sliced fabric. Look, let's get a couple of hours of sleep before we get back on the road.
Logan looked over at her as they crossed the street. You first. I still have a few hours left in me. It was a lie, but he couldn't stand being in Ohio for any longer than he needed to.
Amaris shook her head. You're the one on a two-wheeled machine that weighs as much as you do, if not a little more. She looked up at him, having been nearly half a foot shorter than him.
Logan continued to march on, almost ready to hop back on the motorcycle and continue to ride on. The only thing keeping him from doing so was his bag was now in the room, and he had no idea where he was going. I don't need somebody else to worry about me, he commented. He meant for it to sound absolute, however his tone betrayed him.
She could hear the slight fear in his voice, almost sounding like a whisper between the two of them. She handed him the bottle as an offering. She couldn't find any words that sounded right to reply to him. It was hard for her since she grew up in a safe place while he had wandered around without a clue about who he was or what he was. She had that luxury, he did not.
It was hard on him since he learned a few things about himself at the mansion. He had become a loner because of what a man did to him. He had nothing to go off of to find out who he was. Then to learn he had a family, a rather small one, but no less a family that he cared for and supported. Now, he was reunited with a young woman who was his young daughter once, at a point in both of their lives where they were dealing with their identities. Logan looked down at the bottle, accepting it from her, remaining silent.
Amaris led him to the hotel room, opened the door, and walked over to her bag. She pulled a CD player out with some headphones. She had a disc already loaded into the player, Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park. Logan looked at her, watching as she crossed the room again, taking a seat in the chair next to the little table. I told you, get some sleep. She responded, kicking both of her feet on the tabletop.
Logan took a swig from the bottle, narrowing a brow at her. He had plenty of time to brood around her, but he needed to make it to Canada. He sat down on the bed, kicking his boots off before leaning against the pillow and headboard and setting the bottle down on the side table. He relaxed his shoulders, shutting out the sounds of the world around him as police sirens could be heard approaching the bar. He thought they should have left, but he went against his better judgment, deciding sleep was better for them.
Amaris monitored the situation outside, parting one of the slits of the blinds to see the bartender meet the cops outside. He pointed down the road as they conversed. Music and lyrics filled her mind as she watched for nearly twenty minutes. The police left the bar, heading down the road in the direction the man pointed them. Amaris began to wonder if he was a mutant himself or just somebody unbothered and truly meant what he said earlier. There is still some good in people out there she thought to herself, looking away from the bar and back down to her CD player.
She skipped back to Crawling when she began to hear the subtle breaths of Logan who was drifting off to sleep. The lyrics suddenly became darker for her as she looked over at her father.
There's something inside of me that pulls beneath the surface, Consuming, Confusing
With a quiet exhale, Amaris looked away from Logan, looking down at her CD player wondering why she had decided to listen to this album.
In the early morning hours, Amaris and Logan loaded up the jeep with their items. There was no sign of the receptionist from the previous night or any of his buddies. Logan straddled the motorcycle again, a distinct creak of the metal filled the air briefly before he turned the engine over. They had enough gas to get them out of Ohio before needing to make another pitstop. Logan led the way, pulling out of the parking lot as Amaris followed him in the jeep. Logan seemed intent on leaving Toledo as quickly as possible. After the events of last night, she didn't blame him.
Amaris had never been to Canada before. The furthest west she has been is Nevada. There was a conference about mutants that her very good friend Dr. Hank McCoy invited her to. He was more like an uncle to Amaris if she had to label it. He is incredibly smart beyond his years. He had been one of her teachers once before he was elected into office, Secretary of Mutant Affairs. Amaris remembered the party the mansion had when he left, wanting to send him with a warm send-off. Hank had always been an honored guest at the school, serving as one of its first round of teachers, and a X-Men himself.
It was strange to discover she had been Canadian, though she knew everybody came from someplace. She wondered if Logan too had been originally from Canada. With the way he looked, he only appeared in his younger to mid-thirties, despite being at least old enough to be her father. She was twenty-four now, choosing to celebrate her birthday on the first of every year because she did not know when her actual birthday was. It felt nearly impossible to know that information now. If they lucked out, maybe they could find some information about Logan, and in turn, maybe about her too.
Or her mother. Kayla.
Amaris and Logan had crossed the Canadian border three hours prior. It was a nervous process for Amaris as it had been the first time she left the United States, though Logan seemed so calm and cool about the situation. He led the charge, stating they were returning home to pick up a few things before heading back to New York. She admired how quick he was to come up with a story, and Amaris was quick to follow up with it.
They arrived in Calgary, needing to find their next place to rest up for a bit. Logan had wanted to find a spot to drink while Amaris was more invested in doing research. She needed to find somewhere for them to start, and logically the library was the best place to start. Logan watched as Amaris grabbed her coat, using the thicker one that she packed since it had been colder out today. You really think you are going to find something at the library?
She turned to look at him, having just finished braiding her hair in a single braid. I'm sure I can find something out about Alkali Lake. You need to have all the information you can get so you can find some answers.
Logan finished lacing up his boots. What do you get out of all of this? We've driven well over a thousand miles in four days. Just for what? A road trip?
Amaris shook her head. I've had others help me figure out who I was, as a person, my whole life. I just want to repay that favor, and hopefully, help you not find out who you are. I want to help you remember what you were.
Logan stood up, approaching Amaris as he looked her over. He still couldn't shake the image of the woman, Kayla, out of his mind. He could see Kayla in Amaris, and he could see himself in her. It was rather unsettling for him, only because he knew that he had been emotionally tied to her already. He wouldn't know what to do if something happened to her. He placed a hand on her shoulder, nodding as his lips pulled into a thin line. Don't get into any trouble here. I know you attract trouble.
Amaris looked up at him, confused if he was just saying that, or if it came from potential concerns about her. I'll behave. The only scrape I can get into is with a piece of paper from a paper cut. I promise.
Logan nodded, then dragged a finger over her hair again. I like it like that. It suits your face. Logan stepped away, grabbing his wallet, passport, and keys. This gave Amaris time to leave, heading out of the hotel room and walking toward the stairs.
To have a dad was a strange feeling for her. Somebody who cared for her, well that was something else. Her family was Charles, Scott, Ororo, Jean, and Hank. She had a familial bond with students like Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, and Bobby Drake. She had a couple of lovers in the past, all of them having left the school to go down their own paths.
Some days she felt she could still hear him walking around the school, or smell his aftershave. Her mind would play tricks on her in her most vulnerable moments, often feeling his presence wrap her up in a cool embrace when her mind was fighting between waking up and going back to sleep.
She approached the jeep, hopping into the driver seat and turning the engine over. As she settled into the seat, a big gust of wind kicked up behind her, and just as fast as it rolled through, the wind rolled right out. It certainly caught her attention, along with the very faint scent that came with it.
It couldn't be. It was just another trick of the mind, reminding her that no matter how much of a mutant she was, she still was human at the end of the day.
Amaris left the parking lot of the hotel as Logan left the hotel room, watching her drive off toward the library. He was ready for a drink, and maybe some pool. He knew he was acting hard on her, acting as if the situation wasn't something natural. He was having a hard time believing that he had been nobody to everybody nearly two weeks prior. Now he was a part of the X-Men, and he was a father. Or that his daughter was an adult in her mid twenties.
That he had forgotten about her.
It was honestly for the best for her. He couldn't fathom being a father. Could mutants reproduce? It seemed like a silly question, seeing as they were nothing more than humans. They just happened to have special abilities, as Charles taught him. What was so special about steak knives in his arms and healing abilities?
Logan huffed, heading toward the motorcycle, wanting his drink as quickly as possible, and space between him and Amaris.
While Logan went on the hunt for his next drink, Amaris found her way to the library. She was honest when she said she was going to do some research about the lake, however, she had a few more keywords she wanted to search. Howlett, Logan Howlett, Kayla, Kayla and Logan.
Selfishly, she wanted to know where she came from. What hospital was she born in? Where did her parents meet? Where did they live? Alberta in the Seventies had to be different from the turn of the century.
She parked the jeep, grabbing the notebook and folder she brought with her. She was going to find some answers, no matter how much time she had to invest in it. She owed it to Logan. She owed it to herself.
It was easy to gain access to the library. She approached the counter to speak with one of the librarians. Hey there. Can you help me find some information about Alkali Lake? There was a military base there, and I was hoping there was something about that here.
The older woman looked at her. Alkali? She asked her, confused before shrugging her shoulders. I'd suggest looking in our geography section. Third row to your right, toward the middle of the aisle. If not, come speak with me and I'll give you computer access.
Amaris nodded, parting ways with the older woman before heading for the section. Every footstep she took felt heavier and heavier as if walking into impending trouble. She could feel her breath hitch in her throat as she entered the aisle. A pounding sound echoed in her mind as she walked in the row, approaching the section.
She turned, scanning over the many rows of books. Her eyes read the spines as quickly as she could, eventually reading one that caught her eye. Alkali Lake: A History.
She reached out to grab the book at the same time a slight breeze swept past her. A figure now stood with their back leaning against the bookshelf. The book she was once focused on was now in their hands. He opened the book, flipping through the pages. Princessa, I did not know you were interested in lakes. His voice was velvety smooth as always, though his posture was different.
Amaris looked up at the man, his accent filling her ears once again. His aftershave filled her nostrils as the fabric of his jacket rested at his sides. Pietro?
He closed the book, leaning away from the bookshelf, handing the book over to her. What is the matter? You look like you've seen a ghost. His icy blue irises pierced her hazel eyes. Suddenly, they both were twenty and twenty-three all over again. He thought she hadn't changed in the slightest, albeit her hair was longer now.
Amaris took hold of the book, observing his features. His eyes and his hair were much different now. He almost looked much happier. Not a ghost, she commented, pressing her brows together. You changed your hair. The roots of his hair remained dark brown, though he bleached the majority of its length. Did you cross paths with Justin Timberlake?
Pietro nodded, running a hand through it. Do you like it?
Amaris smiled, nodding as he took a step closer to her. She exhaled sharply, then took half a step backward. What are you doing here, Pietro?
He chuckled a little, then pouted his lip. Maybe I missed you? He watched her as a flush of pink graced her cheeks. Last time I checked, this isn't New York. And it's certainly not the mansion. What are you doing up here?
Amaris looked down, needing to break herself away from his gaze. This didn't make any sense. What was Pietro doing in Alberta? Uh.. I'm doing some self-discovery. It wasn't lying, but she wasn't telling the whole truth.
Something the man knew about Amaris was her inability to keep eye contact when she was hiding something. Come on. How long has it been? Three years?
Amaris looked back up at him, doing her best to keep a stone expression. Four. Four years since Pietro decided to leave the mansion, wanting to find his father and know why he and his sister were pawned off to the care of Charles Xavier when their powers were activated. Something Amaris couldn't blame him for wanting, but to do everything in his power to keep her from joining him on his trip was something else.
Pietro whispered lowly between the two of them, holding his hands out to his sides as if throwing in the towel. What is that place? He asked, pointing at the book.
Amaris pulled the book toward her chest. I don't know yet. That's why I'm studying it.
Pietro spun on his heels, placing a hand on her shoulder. Perfect. We can study this book together, then. He had been more than half a foot taller than her, though Amaris had been shorter than most people she had met. She stood at a solid five feet and two inches tall on a good day. With Pietro being nearly six feet tall, she often found herself climbing on objects to be somewhere near or at his eye level. Before she could even put up a fight, she found herself walking in tandem with Pietro toward an empty table. Just like old times.
Amaris watched as he took a seat at the table, then she followed suit. Settling the book down on the tabletop, she reached for her notebook. The sound of whirling air filled the space again. Once she had her notebook and pen in hand, she looked back up to see him looking through the book again. Too bad super speed doesn't come with speed reading.
Amaris reached over the table, taking the book from him. Believe me, I remember. She rested back in her chair, flipping to the index of the book. You never answered my question from earlier. Why are you here, Pietro? She peered up, staring at him over the book.
I could listen to you say my name all day long, he cooed, finding it rather relaxing. He crossed his arms, leaning back in the chair as he balanced it on the back two legs. I haven't heard from my sister in a couple of weeks. Last place I knew her to be was in this freezing hell hole.
So you came to the library? Please, I know you better than that. Amaris flipped to a chapter in the index that piqued her interest, rolling her eyes at his comment.
Pietro hummed a little, looking at her. No. But the sound of Summers' motorcycle rolling through the city was certainly something of interest to me. He rested all four legs of the chair on the ground before leaning on the table. So where is Summers?
Amaris looked up at Pietro, fumbling with the pen in her left hand. In New York, with the others. Amaris brisked over the sentences in the book, pulling out a few points. A location of an old quarry. Knowing militaries could be finicky about their locations, she wanted to make note of the quarry.
Pietro tilted his head, looking at the notebook she was writing in. Then who's on the bike? Your new boyfriend? He tested her, wondering what he was up against.
She looked visibly disgusted. Gross, no. A year was written, 1973. He's a friend. Scott and Ororo saved him a couple of weeks ago near Laughlin City, just north of here.
Pietro nodded, pressing his lips together. So you are just escorting him home with Summers' motorcycle.
Amaris set the pen down, looking at Pietro. Didn't you say your sister was missing? Isn't that more important than wondering if I'm dating anybody?
So, you are single. He commented, smiling again.
She tapped the pen on the notebook, her patience running thin with him. I have other things I'm doing right now.
Pietro nodded again, looking into her eyes again. Like destroying Liberty Island?
Amaris set the pen down on the notebook, Sssush! she commanded, then looked around to make sure people did not hear him. She looked back at him, clenching her jaw momentarily. How do you know about what happened on Liberty Island?
Pietro chuckled looking at her expression. World leaders gathered on Ellis Island, and some funky shit goes down on Liberty Island. Mutants are to blame. X-Men were obviously involved.
Amaris crossed her arms, leaning back in her chair as she crossed her legs. What do you want to know?
For starters, what are you really doing here?
A pair of boots could be heard approaching the table. The heavy smell of a freshly smoked cigar filled the air. Amaris knew her father was within feet of her. She smirked, knowing it was her out of the conversation.
Logan walked up behind her, noticing the other man. He observed him, quickly deciding something was wrong with the conversation at hand. Is everything okay here? He asked Amaris, standing behind her.
Amaris smirked at Pietro. Yes. She turned to look up at Logan briefly before looking back at the icy man. Just catching up with an old friend.
Pietro chuckled a little. You have a funny way of describing friends, Princessa. Logan eyed him, and a very low growl could be heard emitting from his throat.
Amaris smirked, knowing this was more for her entertainment than anything else. Pietro, this is Logan. My father. She watched as his smug grin began to evaporate. Logan, this is Pietro Maximoff. He was a student at Charles' school. She could hear the shift in his posture as she spoke. Pietro is my ex-boyfriend.
Pietro stood up quickly, adjusting his jacket. He never knew Amaris to have a father, nor to expect him to look so young. Logan watched him, silent as he watched the man squirm around. Your fath- Pietro's lips drew into a flat line again. It's nice to meet you, sir. I need to go, though. I need to find my sister.
Logan watched him, a master of the uncomfortable situation, as Pietro backed away, retreating from the mutant duo. He exhaled the breath he held onto, then walked around the table and sat down. What was his deal?
Amaris shrugged her shoulders. I don't know. He was always skittish. She looked back down at the book, picking up the pen again. A word to the wise, never date somebody with super speed. You'll regret it.
Logan nodded. Is he trusted enough to know about us?
Amaris nodded, scanning through the book again. Pietro is known for a lot of things. Betrayal and snitching isn't one of them. She looked back up at him after writing some more brief notes. What happened with the drink and pool?
Logan shrugged his shoulders. The scene is rather dead right now. Plus, I knew you couldn't stay out of trouble.
Amaris looked up at him, narrowing one eyebrow. She set the pen down, studying Logan for a moment. She studied his features, how he sat in the chair, how smug he looked poking fun at her time spent with an unexpected visitor. Misery keeps company.
An older man approached the table, appearing in his early sixties. Logan? Logan Howlett? Is that really you, boy?
Logan was quick to turn to the man, running a hand over the back of his neck. Me?
Amaris knew this was an opportunity they needed to find more information. Oh, sorry sir. This is my brother, Robert. Logan is our father. She watched as Logan looked back at her, winking at him to make him play along.
The older man was still fixated on Logan. His lip quivered as he spoke. Really? No kidding! Logan would have to be well into his fifties by now. My God, rest his soul.
Amaris was quick to respond again. Yes, he truly is his father's son. She paused for a moment, thinking about the later part of his sentence. Yes, I was still very young when it happened. Robert had a car accident not too long ago and he is experiencing some amnesia.
Logan looked from Amaris up to the older man, nodding. Right... yes. Really bad accident, as I have been told. He gently kicked her foot under the table, earning him a glare.
The older man nodded a few times, then turned to the girl. You must be little Amaris! Oh heavens, I remember your parents pulling up to the yard with you in the middle. You even took a little tumble in my office once. Logan was so quick to pick you up. He was mortified every time, constantly looking for scratches or bruises. You were a tough little cookie.
Her eyes softened a little, hearing the story the man told them. She struggled to push those feelings to the side as she continued her investigation. The yard?
The older gentleman chuckled a little, holding his belly. The lumbar yard. I doubt you would remember any of that now. You're much too young for that.
Logan looked up at the older man, placing a hand on his hip as he spoke. You know, I can't remember where the yard is. I keep trying to remember, but it all is still very blurry.
The older man nodded, placing a hand on Logan's shoulder. It was about an hour and a half west of here. There's a house built on it now, but the yard was there. A little lumber mill area that was operational in the seventies. Logan didn't make much, like the rest of us, but he made it work for his family. The man squeezed Logan's shoulder, proudly looking down at him.
His family? Amaris asked. Sorry, that sounded obvious, didn't it?
The man nodded. Most of the other guys didn't understand Logan. He was focused on his work and remained silent most of the day. However, he always smiled when he saw Kayla. She was a pretty young woman, she would be proud to see how big her little one has grown. Just as beautiful.
Kayla was a pretty woman.
Kayla was.
A woman appeared at the table. There you are, Hank. You can't run off like that. She gently scolded the man, taking hold of his arm with hers.
Hunny, look. He pointed to Logan and Amaris, proudly beaming. It's Logan's kids.
The woman turned to look at the two mutants. Her face lit up as she recognized their features. Her face then drew into shock, as if she had been seeing ghosts. It can't be.
Amaris looked over at Logan briefly, rolling her eyes to hint they should go. Logan ignored the direction, pressing on. We were just on a little trip. We were passing through, and we remembered Dad was from south Alberta. What was the harm in trying to find out some things about him?
The woman nodded, clinging to her husband's arm. Logan was such a hard worker. He was very reserved. I remember the day we found Kayla... and the car accident.
There seem to be a lot of those, lately, Logan commented, earning him a kick from Amaris.
What do you mean by finding Kayla? And the accident?
The married couple looked at each other, a somber look in their eyes. They silently agreed, then took the other two open seats at the round table. They held hands, resting them on the top of the table before the man began to speak. It was the summer of seventy-nine. Late summer, as school had started back for the young ones. Logan and Kayla pulled up to the yard, that Camino was an amazing car.
Hank, these kids came here to find out about their dad. Not his car.She spoke, squeezing his arm.
Amaris picked up her pen, slid her notebook in front of her, and kept eye contact with the couple.
Anyways. Kayla drove off as Logan and the rest of the boys loaded up and headed out to the site. Some of the men said Logan had acted funny. One thing led to another, and Logan ran away from the site. The gentleman looked down at his hands, shaking his head. You would have thought him a deer or a baby moose with how fast he was running. We called out for him, thinking he was suffering from the effects of the heat.
We found Kayla's body. She had been attacked in one of the clearings. It had to have been a bear, or a mountain lion. There was so much blood. He continued on, seemingly a little more upset each time he spoke. Amaris looked over at Logan, trying to read his face as they listened to the story. His expression from his nose down was solid, mirroring that of a brick wall. His eyes betrayed him, revealing the shock and horror he felt internally.
The older woman began to speak. The next day we found the Camino crashed into a tree near one of the bigger bridges around here. The floorboard was littered with whiskey bottles and beer cans. We searched for several days, but we could only come to the conclusion that..
The opening under the bridge leads into Alkali Lake. It was nearly a hundred-foot drop. If anything survived an impact like that, there wouldn't be much left to battle the current from the waterfall to the lake. The man finished the story, feeling the need to owe it to the two younger people.
Logan remained silent, Amaris could hear his heart race as his chest began to swell with bigger and more rapid breaths. Do you know what happened to their house? She asked, wondering if, by some miracle, it was still there two decades later.
The woman nodded. Yes, it's still standing, though it's in quite disrepair. Some say they can feel their spirits there, living as if life hadn't moved on from them. It's a big reason why it never sold and was just left abandoned.
Logan broke his silence, tracing a small circle on the table with his index finger. Where can we find it?
The older woman nodded, holding her hands out to Amaris for the pen and paper. Amaris made sure to flip her work over to the next page and hand over the items. She scribbled the address on the sheet of paper and then handed the items back. I don't know what will be left over there if you're looking for something in particular.
The man nodded, staring intensely at Logan. I never remembered Logan to have a boy.
The woman shook her head. Hank, our memories are failing us. He looks just as handsome as Logan though. She then turned back to Amaris, smiling warmly. You should stop by and see Koko.
Who's Koko? Should I know her? Amaris asked, quickly writing down the name.
The woman waved her hand. No, but Koko can help you find some pieces of your mother's heritage. She has a little shop next to the post office. She sells things she makes with her family. The beadwork is amazing. She also happens to have some records about Blackfeet families for the last seventy years.
Amaris nodded, closing the notebook. Logan took this as his sign to get up from the table. Thank you for your time. We appreciate what you could tell us about good ole Dad. He turned to walk toward Amaris, wrapping an arm around her shoulder after she gathered her things, wanting to get out of there as quickly as possible. Really? Amnesia?
Amaris hummed a little as the father and daughter made their way to the exit. He won't remember by tomorrow, she spoke confidently.
How can you tell, Logan questioned her.
As they crossed through the doors, she turned to look at him. He is sick. There is something wrong with him. He has a tumor, I think in his head.
Logan narrowed an eyebrow at her. How can you tell?
Amaris sighed a little heavily. When I was younger, maybe around thirteen, I could smell this really strange smell on one of my teachers. It smelled like heavy minerals, mostly iron. I kept pleading with him to see a doctor. Turned out he had a mass on his kidney, noncancerous thankfully. After that, Charles and Jean helped me practice my sense of smell. I was able to detect tumors easily, but then I began smelling colds and flu before others knew they were sick. She looked down, chuckling a little. I could heal from those ailments very quickly, but I always knew when others were sick before they ever started showing signs and symptoms.
Logan looked down at her. That's how you knew Kelly was sickly? She merely nodded in response to his question. That's impressive.
Amaris chortled, Not as impressive as smelling emotions. That certainly gives you a major step up on the battlefield.
Logan groaned a little, letting go of her shoulder. Yeah, let's keep the battlefield talk to a minimum. He had still been battling the visions he saw about different war zones he had been in. I tell you what, why don't you go to that shop the old lady was talking about.
Amaris watched him as he walked over to the motorcycle. What are you going to do?
Logan mounted the motorcycle, fishing for the keys. Keep my distance, make sure Mr. Blue-eyes stays away from us. Before she could get a word out, Logan revved the engine of the motorcycle, moving it to a better position to take off. He didn't bother waiting on the younger woman, choosing to head toward the post office himself. It couldn't be that hard to find, though he could give himself some time to think.
Logan had plenty of new things to think about now, and with each passing day, it became increasingly harder to not think about at least one soft spot he had. He had found himself taken to Storm. He couldn't tell if it was her warm eyes, her cool touch, or her demeanor. She commanded the room and the skies. He found himself thinking about her in the time passing from town to town from New York to Calgary. She seemed to pop up in strange places when things seemed to be coming to a head. She soothed over what the problem was, and then directed the next move.
He wondered how she was doing. What was she doing? Maybe teaching a class? Or running a mission with the others. Or she could have been on a date with a man he didn't know about. Or showering by herself.
Amaris honked the horn behind him, gesturing to the light as if it had been green. He exhaled, taking off again as the two traveled through the city. Still, he couldn't get her out of his brain.
About an hour later, Logan was leaning against a wall, his arms crossed as he stared at the storefront. Amaris had been inside for a while now, speaking with Koko. He could hear a phone ringing in his pocket. He pulled it out, looking more like a shiny belt buckle. It was a design for the X-men, allowing them to communicate with each other. Hello? Logan asked, still keeping his eyes on the storefront.
Logan, how's the trip going?
He closed his eyes, his jaw tightening a little. Her soft voice filled his ear canal, and he could almost feel his arms chill up. Huh, didn't think I'd be hearing from you. He shifted his weight around, kicking a rock before looking at Koko's place again.
Storm giggled a little, sounding amused. You have a promise to uphold. I have something of yours, so you must come back at some point.
Logan nodded. Oh yes, I remember. The missing weight from his neck had been a brief reminder of what his next steps had been after looking into Alkali Lake.
Good. Then your memory should serve you well in order to answer my previous question. She mused, a different tone in her voice, one that conveyed professionalism, but also personal inquiry.
Logan took in a deep breath, crossing one arm over his chest and tucking his other elbow on his wrist as he held the phone up to his ear. We made it to Calgary super early this morning.
Storm hummed a little at the words. That's impressive. You guys must have hardly slept.
Had she really been worried about their rest instead of how the trip was going? There's a difference between catching a few Z's and sleeping.
Oh? She asked, sounding rather quiet on her end. What's the difference?
Logan whispered darkly, I'll teach you when we make it back.
Storm was silent for a moment, though not too long. Come now, Logan. You know, it sounds like you're flirting.
Logan watched as Amaris left the store, a bag in her hands as she turned toward the Jeep. Oh doll, you don't know me well enough. He had smirked at the end of his sentence. His eyes caught a brief glance as something blue caught his eyes. There had been a side door that blocked the view of who was inside. However, Logan could clearly see the frosted hair and light blue jacket combo. Hey Storm, can you do me a favor?
Storm seemed a little caught off guard. Yeah, I suppose I can.
Tell me everything you know about Pietro Maximoff. He watched the young man, who appeared to be speaking to whoever had answered the door.
Pietro? She stammered the name a little, quickly thinking about what she knew. He was a student here. He left about four years ago. He wanted to travel the world.
Logan nodded, now standing off of the wall and dropping his crossed arm to his side. He and Amaris?
Storm's voice dropped a little, sounding sad. Amaris hurt him in the danger room one day. Just a scratch on his forearm. They had a fight about it. He called her an animal and said feral animals belonged in cages. He left the next morning. She hadn't been sure she should have been telling him that information. Is everything okay, Logan?
The older man watched as the younger one left very quickly, in less time than a blinking eye. Yeah... His eyes then drifted to Amaris watching as she loaded up the jeep. Thanks.
Storm pouted a little on the phone. Logan?
His glance shifted a little to the distance as she spoke. Yeah?
Storm hesitated a little, then mustered the courage to speak again. Can I ask a favor?
Sure, he whispered.
Take me out when you get back.
His eyebrows lifted a little, hearing the request. His heart felt as if it had raced a little, stuffing his hand in his jacket pocket. Yes ma'am. Logan knew he would have to leave, and see what was up with Amaris and the store owner. I'll talk to you later. Logan hung up the phone before he could give Storm enough time to respond, then tucked the phone back into his pocket.
He walked across the street, approaching his daughter. Find anything good in there, kid?
Amaris had turned around to face him, sporting a new braid in her hair with some beads in the colors of orange, yellow, and red. I couldn't tell if I was ever going to get out. She mused a little at the thought. Nothing about Kayla could be found here. But Koko was sure to send us on our way with some elk jerky.
Logan wasn't sure what to make of it, nor about seeing Pietro snooping around. Let's take today to unwind from driving. We can leave tomorrow and head on out.
Amaris looked up at her father, giving him a nod. He turned around, heading back to the motorcycle. She had watched him as he peered around in all directions as if he was looking for something. She grew a little concerned, wondering if he had remembered something else from his past, or if he was itching to get out of Calgary now.
The Jeep was packed with their belongings. Logan had fixed his backpack, making sure they had items like flashlights, matches, and some other items. He didn't need the flashlights as he could easily navigate the dark with his night vision. He wasn't sure why he was able to do this, other than having heightened senses. Still, it was for peace of mind to have.
Amaris had bundled up, wearing a dark red shirt paired with a brown flannel and a cargo jacket. Her boots were tightly laced, and her bag was resting in the passenger seat of the jeep.
The two had traveled up the mountain range a little, finding a clearing they could stop at. Amaris took a moment to appreciate the mountains. The top was covered in a thick layer of snow, the trees barren as the wind kicked past them and out over the open body of water. It had smelled so fresh, the innocence of the lake below them and the untouched snow above them. It was simply beautiful.
Logan scanned over the area, for the first time in a while hearing nothing. He closed his eyes for a moment, feeling free from everything beyond the two of them. His mind could rest as he felt the peace the scenery provided them.
This peace wouldn't last long, as they both had their own missions. He exhaled, feeling the cool air he exhaled rush back on his face. I'm going to the quarry by myself. You should go to the house. He sounded firm in his instructions as if giving commands to the masses. We both have things we need to do, and we can't be in each other's way.
Amaris looked up at him, pressing her brows together. How do you know that?
Logan turned and looked down at her, putting one hand on her shoulder. Because what I am looking for isn't what you are looking for. He watched her as her eyes searched his. I'm looking for me. Who I am, who I was. You're looking for your parents.
Amaris exhaled a little, sounding like a gasp. I want to help you.
Logan shook his head as he watched her. Sometimes you have to do things on your own. He wasn't a sentimental guy, at least he believed that. He knew he had some things to work out on his own, but he couldn't subject her to his darker past. Logan closed the distance between him and Amaris, bringing his other hand to cup the back of her head. He embraced her, for the first time since he woke up in the infirmary.
Amaris hadn't been used to gestures like these from parental figures. Charles was her father figure, and he did his best. Yet, this was different. It was her father wrapping his arms around her. She could finally feel that security blanket she had been missing the majority of her life. It felt warm enough to burn her skin and heavy enough to bury her. It felt like home, what it should have been.
Logan placed a brief kiss on her hair, pulling away from the hug as he pinched the braid Koko had put in her hair. The pad of his thumb ran over the beads in her hair as his eyes lingered over them. Let's meet back here. If either of us don't return by this time tomorrow, take this phone and call the X-Men. Logan showed her the phone, put it in a bag, and then walked over to a tree, hanging it up on a barren branch.
She placed a hand on her hip, watching him as he hung the bag up. Does it have to be up so high? She joked at first, needing to exert some of her emotions. As he turned to face her, a smile crawled on his face, shaking his head as he looked down. Don't give me a reason to use the phone. She told him sternly.
Logan chuckled a little, now holding the keys to the motorcycle in his hand. Don't make me hunt you down.
The duo shared another look at each other before Logan mounted the motorcycle again. As he turned the engine over, some of the snow beneath him shifted. He started to climb up the road of the mountain again, leaving Amaris behind him.
The young watched her father as he continued on his drive, crossing her arms over herself, savoring the last little feelings from her father's warm embrace. It would be something she would hold onto until she saw his face again. She turned away from the beautiful scene of the snow-covered mountains and the still lake waters, entering the Jeep again. She turned the engine over, with only one thought on her mind. Please, Professor, watch over us. A simple plea was muttered before Amaris turned down the fork of the road, now making her way down the mountain pass toward the location of the house. The paper map had been weighted down on the passenger seat next to her, being her guide of where she was going.
For the first time in nearly twenty-one years, Amaris had been on her own.
And she was scared as hell.
She had turned the radio back on, playing a mix tape she had brought with her. The sweet instrumentals of Zombie began to play. The music filled the empty space of the Jeep, yet it still never reached her mind. There were so many questions she had been asking herself, and she was running short of proper resources to find those answers.
Nearly two hours later, Amaris came across the entrance of the road that would lead her to her childhood home. The closer she approached, the more she felt something was wrong. It couldn't be this easy to find the house without something going wrong. Her heart felt as if it would burst, and the pounding in her head grew louder and louder. She stared down the road, looking out to see the edge of one of the cliffs maybe a mile down the road. There hadn't been much foliage aside from some snow-covered bushes and grass. She had been so high up on the mountain that she could see bits of clouds that were leveled with her.
The woman shook her head, leaning against the steering wheel, a warm ball pooling in her stomach. She looked up to the sky as she heard the screeching of an eagle. She watched as it flew above her, circling a few times before turning toward the house, flying nearly parallel to the road. Amaris leaned back in the driver's seat, putting her foot on the gas pedal as she followed behind the bird.
She approached the house, seeing some piles of debris that were scattered about the property. The cabin house looked as if it was built in a circular shape with large beams on the roof covered in whatever debris could be tossed around. She shut the engine off, stepping out of the vehicle slowly as if her presence would notify an unsuspecting guest.
The eagle had landed on one of the beams that rested above a broken glass door. It watched as the young woman walked up a couple of steps where a once magnificent deck had been built. She covered her hair with her hands as she stepped into the cabin home through the broken glass doors. It had been four in the afternoon, according to her watch, but the inside portrayed a very different setting.
Aside from the bits of sunshine that poured in from the holes in the roof, the cabin home had been cast in darkness. She took a quick scan from right to left, looking at furniture that hadn't been touched in twenty years. The air had been a little stale-smelling, knowing not much had passed through this place aside from the occasional looter.
Amaris approached a medium-sized, round dining table. There had been a newspaper on it, the edges curling in as the paper had faded to a yellow hue. The words were hardly legible at this point, making its date useless. A wooden bowl had been knocked off along with a salt and pepper shaker. One chair remained, turned out to face the kitchen area.
She stepped over the piles on the floor where the ceiling had fallen in or where animals had made little nests to use. Some of the cabinet doors had been opened up, and a stary plate here and there remained. The young woman picked one up, running a finger around the rim of the plate.
Creak
Amaris turned around, exposing a blade she had in her shirt sleeve, throwing it in the direction of the creak. As quickly as her face turned from defense, her gaze softened, lowering her arm and catching her breath. What are you doing here?
Pietro, who used his speed abilities, caught the blade with his dominant hand. He spun the blade in his hand as he took a step forward, approaching the counter. You seem to like saying those words in the same sequence. He set the blade down on the countertop, then slid it across to her, leaving lines of dust on the countertop.
Amaris eyed him, not reaching out for the blade. You seem to like to pop up in places you have zero connection to. Her tone was cold, the opposite of their encounter at the library. You better start talking.
Pietro leaned against the weathered island, crossing his arms as he looked down at Amaris. You told me you were going to Alkali.
I did, it's beautiful. Do you need directions?
Pietro laughed darkly, his eyes raking over her form. I guess some people never change. His thumbs wiggled in the little cutouts of his sleeves as he rubbed circles into his arms. Why are you acting short with me?
Amaris gritted her teeth as she watched him. None of this made any sense to her, and everything in her mind had told her to run as quickly as possible. "Let's see, the last time we spoke, not yesterday, you cursed me in Sokovian. You called me a feral animal and said I belonged in a cage as if there was an opening in the zoo. You left without telling me.
Pietro exhaled sharply, looking down after her response. He remained silent for a moment as he gathered his thoughts. His piercing blue eyes met her warm hazel irises, stirring something between them. I was stupid, Princessa-
Amaris brought her hands up at her face level, curling her fingers and then resting her arms at her sides. Stop calling me that. I am not a princess. I am not your princess. I am an animal. You made that clear. I've made that clear.
Pietro reached a hand out to her, however she took a step away from him, turning around to face the ruins of her childhood home. She swallowed hard, tightening her eyes as tears threatened to spill over.
I was much younger then. I don't know what it's like to have powers like you, just like you don't know what it's like to have powers like me. He continued, watching her as she reacted to him.
Amaris turned around, tears be damned as she replied. You don't think I've ever imagined what it would be like to have super speed? Or angel wings? Or literally any other power? Do you know how much sleep I have lost thinking about how I hurt you? Or how I may lose control one day and hurt somebody else? Do you know what it's like to have pain constantly ripping through your hands when you're driving, or writing, or doing literally nothing? She felt a couple of tears stain her face as she watched him take in her response. Do you know what it felt like to sit up on the rooftop and watch you willingly turn your back on us and leave the mansion because of one shitty danger room session? You didn't have the nerve to tell anybody you were leaving. I had to watch you as you walked, and then ran away.
Amaris breathed heavily, letting everything she had felt out, mostly through her words. Pietro took another step closer to her, making Amaris take another step backward. Amaris, every time he spoke her name, he would always roll the r, I should have never called you an animal. I should have never made those comments.
Her furrowed brows slowly softened, returning to their normal state as her eyes widened at his statement. Her clenched fists that threatened to bear her claws loosened up as she watched him take baby steps toward her. This wasn't the normal Pietro she had been used to, somebody who had a hot temper and was quick-witted was now remorseful and acted wounded.
Scratches heal, they leave scars that have stories to tell. He then raised his jacket and shirt sleeve revealing the scars she had left. The very faint, yet defined scars. I've carried a little bit of you with me these last four years. Every day I get to wake up to you, and every night I get to say good night to you.
Amaris shook her head, freezing in place, as he finally walked up to her. He looked down at her and lowered his sleeves, the cold nearly affecting him instantly. Pietro, why are you here?
His hands reached to cup the sides of her face. Amaris tried to pull away but was unable to, only able to look down as a final tear left her eyes. I saw you again, and I knew I couldn't let you go again.
She could feel his presence begin to close the short distance between them, and instinct kicked in.
Control your breathing, and imagine the space around you, minimal movements make for big differences.
Amaris brought her hands up, forcing his hands off of her face. She walked away from him, walking toward the torn and weathered couch. I was never yours to lose. She looked down and spotted a blanket, covered in leaves and mildew.
Princessa, I-
Creak
Get down! Amaris yelled, rushing over to him and yanking him down to the floor. She could hear voices outside of the cabin, the sound of a couple of engines cutting off, and radio chatter.
Pietro collapsed to the ground with her, unable to hear exactly what she heard. What are you doing?
Amaris rolled her eyes, peering around the corner to scan the wall opposite of them. I swear the next time you say those words, you will be tasting them.
Found them, sir, permission to engage? came a deep voice from a man. There was radio static for a brief moment before the sound of falling glass could be heard.
Hope you have your dancing shoes on. She replied before stalking her prey. She had already been in a vulnerable position, being in an environment she had not been used to. However, she would make things work. She slipped over to the couch, flipping it over as two men entered the cabin. They fired their weapons at it, sending stray feathers and stuffing around. Amaris used it as her distraction, jumping out from behind the flipped couch and attacking the men. She had disposed of them, killing them with three claws to their chest.
Another began to fire at her. Pietro made his way around the counter, using his powers to move one of the bullets around to face the gunman again. Amaris watched as he fell to the ground and Pietro faced her, giving a thumbs up. Her attention was diverted when she took a stumble forward, feeling the burning sensation of a bullet entering her back. Fuck! she grunted, taking a moment to stand up again. She turned around to face three more gunmen. Of course, it has to be guns.
The gunmen began to fire again, several of the bullets hitting Amaris and littering her jackets and shirts. She charged at them, sheathing the claws of her right hand to punch one of the men in the face. She then unsheathed the claws again, stabbing another of the men.
She felt a wisp of air as Pietro joined her in the squabble, taking the third man and tossing him off the little deck. He turned around to see Amaris killing the other two guards, the backflow of blood splashed on her face as a dark look overtook her features.
Amaris stood up, her claws retracting slowly as she breathed heavily. She turned to look at her ex-lover, seeing a mix of emotions on his face. Whether it had been a post-rush of adrenaline he had, or if he had been mortified by what he saw, she didn't have time to care. She walked over to the man who was now on the ground. She knelt beside him, lifting him up by the collar of his shirt. Who the hell are you?
The man grunted, recovering from the fall he took. Wouldn't you like to know, sweetheart?
Amaris nodded a little, her jaw dropping slightly before pulling a half smile. Oh, you think this is funny? Amaris stood up, dragging the man by his collar as she approached the edge of the cliff. He squirmed under her grip, desperately driving his heels into the dirt. She had been strong enough to pull him to the edge, flipping him over to look down at the drop below them. I'll give you another chance. You tell me who you are, or you become the wolf's next meal.
The man's cries slowly turned into laughs as he looked down at the opening below him. You'll kill me either way. Why should I tell you who I am?
Pietro walked up behind her, holding his hands out. Woah, think about this. The Professor didn't teach you this.
Amaris looked at the man, then back to Pietro. There's a lot he taught you that you forgot about. She then looked back at him, now shifting some of his weight over the side of the cliff. Why did you come here?
The man shook his head, the same demented tone vibrated through his voice. You were not the target.
Amaris was puzzled at his response. Who?
You already know who.
Amaris felt a fit of rage fill her again. She screamed, picking the man up and throwing him back toward the house. She walked back to him, unsheathing her bone claws again. Who do you work for?!
The man looked at her, catching his breath. It's too late for me. She watched as he flexed his tongue, then heard the distinct sound of something cracking in his mouth. A couple of seconds later he began to convulse before a gray-blue substance seeped from his mouth.
Amaris stood up, shocked by his actions. She watched as he suffered through the effects of the self-ingested poison, looking at him with disgust. Pietro stood at her side, looking down at the man. He was at a loss for words about what he saw her do, how quickly she acted, and how ruthlessly she defended herself.
She heard the radio static again, coming from one of the corpses. She walked over to the body, finding a radio clipped to his vest. She picked it up, pressing the button. I don't know who you are, I don't care who you are. I need answers.
An older man's voice responded to her. I am not looking for you, pet. At least, not yet.
She had been disgusted by his response. Why were they always so creepy? If you're looking for an animal, you've found one.
He chuckled before responding. I know. Each member of that team was embedded with a microchip that would relay to us their vital signs. Seems you like to take direct approaches. You should keep up the good work.
Amaris shook her head, pressing the button again. You come looking for me again like this, or anybody I care about, understand no moral code will keep you safe from me.
Trust me, Miss Howlett, we will be seeing each other. Hopefully next time, it's in person.
She dropped the radio on the man's body, looking down as it rolled right off of him. She turned to head back into the house, though she was grabbed by Pietro. He firmly held her elbow in his arm, earning him a look from the shorter woman. We should leave. They will send more men out here.
She tugged away at him, freeing her from his grasp. Not until I find something. She didn't give him any time to react as she turned away and entered the home again.
Logan had found a part of the lake that had been mostly untouched. The cold winds came rushing past him as they moved the tides of the lake. Snow crunched under his boots as he took in the scenery. There had been a dam at the lake, separating a small portion from the rest of the lake. It didn't seem to be serving a particular purpose, other than dividing the two bodies of water.
He removed the cigar from his mouth, blowing out the smoke as he figured out his next steps. He found himself wondering what he would find at the facility. If it had secretly still been active, what would he find there, and if this would resolve his problems? The Professor had promised him answers, yet Logan craved more. He wished the older man would have magically restored his memory, and figured out what wall was blocking him from being able to remember his past and who he was.
Until two weeks prior, he was Logan, The Wolverine.
Now he was a father, a cage fighter, and an X-Man.
Logan found his way to the facility entrance of the dam, the place where he had been told there was a quarry. He came across a half-broken barbed wire fence with government signs on it. The broken fences and the decaying metal and wood gates told him that the place hadn't been touched in years, maybe over a decade. Logan was met with a white wolf at the gate, the two animals staring each other down. They seemed to have come to a silent agreement as the wolf turned around and walked into the facility. Logan followed behind it, making sure to give them each enough space.
As Logan approached the gates he looked to his left, spotting a sign.
Alkali Lake Industrial Park Department of Energy and Natural Resources
Logan pushed on, sliding through the gate to finally see what was on the other side. He looked around, shocked to see ruble about him, the ruins of a building were all that remained aside from the lake.
"No", he thought. This couldn't be what Charles had seen in his mind. This wasn't the right place. There was nothing.
Logan screamed out loudly, exposing his metal claws as he slashed at a decaying column, snow shuffling around him as the debris fell. He fell to his knees, looking up at the sky, crossing his arms as they lay in his lap. It was all gone, none of it was there.
He hadn't been sure of what he was trying to find, or what he would find when he did. Yet, this felt more devastating than finding anything. Another thing had been ripped from him, something he was missing was gone again, and this angered the man. Why was this happening to him?
Amaris had shuffled through the house, moving debris so she could look under it or access parts of the cabin that had been blocked before. Pietro followed her, keeping his distance as she tore through the home. Amaris, there's nothing here.
The shorter woman grunted as she moved one of the collapsed roof beams that had blocked her from a closet. I refuse to believe that. Something has to be here. She pulled on the doorknob, opening a closet. There were clothes still on the hanger. Nothing seemed to have been touched, the roof above the clothes was still intact, and no sun had pierced through. She moved some of the hangers, finding some flannels and band t-shirts. She had pulled one flannel out, her fingers running down the sleeves. It was a brown color, somehow having a lingering pine smell to it. Hold this. Amaris extended the item out toward Pietro.
He sighed, then took the garment from her. You came here for a shirt? I would have bought one for you.
Amaris continued to look through the closet, squatting down as she found a metal safe. She pulled it up, wiping her hands over the top of it.
Alkali Lake Industrial Park Department of Energy and Natural Resources
She stood up with the case in her hand. No, we're here for this. She walked around him, heading back to the kitchen area. She avoided the bodies of the men they had killed, a strong scent of metal filling the room. Amaris set the case on the countertop, her hands now hovering over the latches.
Pietro followed her, tossing the shirt over his shoulder as he hung onto it for her. What's the matter?
She looked at the words of the case, feeling a sense of dread begin to brew in the pit of her stomach. My parents lived here... I lived here. My mother died when I was three, my father lost his memories, and I ended up in Charles' care. She exhaled a shaky breath as she finally unlatched the case. I need to know who they were.
Pietro stood next to her as she removed the top of the case. He wasn't sure how he could help her at this point, other than silently support her. He watched as her small hands began to shake as she reached for the first layer of contents.
Amaris picked up a set of photos, letting out a sound close to a muffled sob. The top picture had been of two people standing in front of the house. The man had been Logan, his arms wrapped around a woman who was holding a baby. The woman was beautiful. The black and white picture had given Amaris her first-ever glance at her mother.
She flipped to the next picture, showing Kayla asleep on the couch. The third was Logan holding an older Amaris on his shoulders in the living room. The same living room where that once little girl killed militia sent out for her.
She carefully set the pictures back in the case, now pulling out a weathered folder and a journal. She opened up the leather-bound journal and began to read the first page.
My name is James Logan Howlett. My mother was Elizabeth Howlett, my father was John Howlett. I have a brother named Victor. I was born in 1832 in a private estate to my parents some years after Victor. My wife's name is Kayla Silverfox, an ordinary person compared to me, though she is extraordinary next to me. I have a daughter, my little moon. Amaris was born in April of 1976 in Calgary. I wish to one day give her a life worth living, and I hope that she is a normal human like her mother, so she may never live a curse like mine.
Her eyes scanned over the sentences multiple times. Her mind could not comprehend what she was reading.
James Logan Howlett... born in 1832
She lowered the book on the countertop, her shoulders slumping. Pietro's quick hands rested on the small of her back and her forearm. Princessa?
Amaris looked from the journal to Pietro, her eyes filling with tears again. Tears she had been terrified to release for days. For years. My father... he's - he's over one hundred and fifty years old. Her voice came in a whisper as she verbalized what she read. His eyes widened as he searched her face, wondering how it had been possible.
Amaris turned back to the book, slowly flipping through the pages. There had been mad scribblings of different dates in time. The American Civil War, The Spanish-American War, World War One, World War Two, the Korean War, The Vietnam War. Scribbling of troop numbers, commanding officer names, division classes, and military ranks.
The pounding returned to her head as she realized that her father had been involved in almost every single major war in the northern parts of North America for nearly one hundred years. This made his night terrors and mumblings sense now. He had been a man who had fought in turmoil for one hundred years, who only remembered the last twenty-one years of his life. This isn't fair. She muttered, closing the journal, unable to read more about what had happened to him.
Pietro set a hand on hers, pleading with her. Stop. Don't do this to yourself.
Amaris shook her head, looking up at him. I have to know what happened. She persisted, now looking down at the folder. Pietro removed his hand, watching as she studied the folder.
Amaris looked at a letter that rested on top. The handwriting had been different, more wispy and thin. Her eyes widened at the greeting.
Amaris covered her mouth as she turned around, leaning against the counter for support.
My dearest Amaris,
If you are reading this, it means I am no longer here and something terrible has happened. I only ever wished to burn this letter one day and hoped you would never have to find out the truth.
I hope I get to see you grow up. I want to see what type of person you become. I already know you are as stubborn as your father, which will be my biggest challenge when raising you. I also know that you brought a new light to his eyes the night you were born. I thought I knew Logan before that night, but he surprised me and became a different kind of man as soon as his big arms wrapped around your tiny little body.
I want you to know that out of everything you learn about what has happened, my love for you has never changed. It never will. What I did was something I will never expect you to understand, but I hope one day you will forgive me for it. I only wanted to save my sister, your aunt, from the ones who made your father into what he is now. I didn't want to betray his trust, as I do love him. But my darling little honey badger, I had no choice.
I may be dead less than twenty-four hours from now, either by the hands of your father, his creator, or his brother Victor Creed. Victor is a mutant like your father and I, he goes by Sabertooth. I will do everything in my power to make sure you are well looked after when I am gone if your father can not take care of you. When you miss me, only turn to the moon. It is there I hope to go so I may look down at my beautiful child. My Amaris.
With all of the love in the world, and the deepest of apologies,
Your mother Kayla Silverfox
Amaris fell to her knees, her chest heaving. She wanted to scream, parting her lips, however, her emotions were too thick all she could let out was a gasping sound followed by silent sobs. Pietro dropped down, wrapping his arms around Amaris, and pulling her toward him. What is it?
Amaris leaned into his chest as he held her, holding the letter close to her chest as her tears fell in her lap. My-my..moth- Another sob rumbled through her chest as her brain looped the letter back again. She buried her face into his chest, the zipper of his jacket scratching her nose as she tried to burrow deeper. Pietro held her in one arm, his other brushing down her hair, cooing to her in an attempt to soothe her. Amaris tilted her head up to look at him, breaking her silence again. My mother turned my father over to whoever made him into what he is now. She betrayed him, and now he doesn't know who he is.
She continued to cry as Pietro brushed the hair out of her face, then pulled her back in, cupping the back of her neck as he held her. Let it out. I'm here.
Amaris wrapped her arms around him, trying to pull him closer. He thought she was human, and she lied to him... why would she lie to him? Pietro remained silent as Amaris tried to process her feelings, wondering how on Earth her father fell head over heels with Kayla, who seemed more than willing to trade him for the world.
The night had been the longest of Amaris' life. She collapsed into the arms of her ex as he stalked her through the Canadian Rockies. She unleashed a small portion of her animalistic side as she killed armed men coming for her and Pietro. She found some clothes that smelled of her father, found photos of her family, and found devastating news about her parents.
Amaris looked through the folder to see its remaining contents, mostly holding written communication from Kayla to Victor or to "Agent Zero", speaking about Logan and getting him to return to his brothers. Kayla had been working for months with Sabertooth to make Logan join them again. She found a plan Kayla wrote about convincing Logan, with her powers, that she had been killed by Victor. Plans that would lead Logan down a path to choose to undergo experimentation in the Weapon X program.
On the opposite side of things, she read through her father's journal, reading his stories from different wars. It was hard to believe that her father and Sabertooth, a man who had killed Amaris two weeks prior, had been the best of brothers fighting side by side in the wars. The words were sickening to her, reading about how much her father had changed for his family for him to never learn of Kayla's betrayal.
She walked out to the jeep, accessing the damage on it. The engine had been shot multiple times and various colors of fluid stained the snow below. There was no way she was going to be able to drive it back down the mountain, let alone across two countries. Pietro had run away like a scared dog the moment she left the living room area the night before, leaving her alone on the mountaintop. She looked over to the other vehicles that the militiamen brought. She knew they would be tracked by its agency, making it easy to find her. When she thought all hope was lost she turned her head to the side, finding another building on the property.
Amaris was drawn to the building next to the cabin. It seemed to be in rather good shape, as if it had been regularly checked in on from time to time. She was cautious in her approach as she walked up to it. There had previously been a large door that no longer existed, which displayed the contents of the building. Maybe it was an old garage door or a large barn door that no longer existed.
Her eyes were drawn to the center of the garage, something large was in the middle with a weathered tarp over it. She gathered a large handful of the fabric, ripping it off of the object. Her eyes widened seeing the restored 1965 El Camino the old man had told her about previously, sitting in the garage of its owner.
She laughed to herself, approaching the door and opening it up. The window had been rolled down and the keys were sitting in the bench seat. Oh, Dad. Her whisper filled the cab as she entered the driver's seat, her hands resting on the steering wheel. She looked down at the keys, picking them up as she eyed her damaged jeep sitting in front of the house.
Amaris put the keys in the ignition, switching it over. The rumble of the engine grew in decibels as she revved its engine, bringing the classic beast to life. With a new means of transportation, Amaris turned the car off after looking at its gas tank reader. The jeep had enough in it to fill up the Camino. She had a plan. Siphon the gas from the jeep, put the extra canteen of gas in the trunk bed along with everything she found, make sure everything about Xavier was out of the jeep, take the plates, and go. Once back in the city she could call Scott and get him to fix some documents to make the Camino legal with the plates and tags of the Jeep. It was perfect!
She packed up the case in the Camino along with some clothes that survived over the years and some photos she was able to save. Pietro had left in the middle of the night, needing to find a place where he could comfortably get warm. The young woman left the cabin home, regretting having ever searched for it. She would have rather lived her life without the answers had she had a thought that maybe something else had been working against her.
Then there was that group that attacked her, she had no idea who they were or who sent them. The threat that one day he wanted to was the next motivation she had to improve her skills. She wasn't a little Barbie doll to be played with when others wanted, she was going to be a force they dared not to cross.
She approached the spot where she had last met her father, seeing a figure in a leather coat sitting on the edge underneath the bag he hung up. As she cut the engine off, Amaris sighed, grabbing the case. It wasn't hers to have, it was his. She shouldn't have gone digging through the case, but she could not deny herself the anticipation of knowing its contents.
The woman trudged through the snow bank and then took a seat next to him. Logan looked over at her, taking in a deep breath. Pine, peppermint, and gunpowder. Amaris felt his stare, turning to look at him. Instead of answering the unasked question, she held the box in her hands, holding it out for him to take.
Logan looked at the box, taking it. He saw the same words as he did on the gate of the dam, hearing something shifting inside the box.
Before you open it, Amaris started, Just know that whatever you think after this, I still want to help you find the answers you're looking for.
Logan looked from her to the box. He battled with opening it himself, wondering what rabbit hole it would lead him down. Here goes nothing, right? The man opened up the case, finding it in the same order as Amaris found it. Pictures on the top of a life he didn't remember. The images did try to dig a response out of his mind, but nothing stuck.
The next thing he pulled out was the journal. He tapped his fingers on the cover of the book. There was nothing at the quarry. It's been destroyed by the weather, and I'm assuming other things.
Amaris looked from him to the lake below them, watching the water rippling around the little islands and the shores, looking down at her hands. Well, you missed all the action. She chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
Logan nodded. So that's why you smell like gunpowder, and you lost the jeep?
Amaris reached into her jacket pocket, pulling out five bullets. The one from my shoulder was the most painful to shed.
He looked from the bullets to the journal, his fingers pinching the cover. Hope it was worth finding this. Amaris' face grew cumbersome as she put the bullets into her pocket again, watching him open the journal. She watched his face switch emotions from curious to shocked, then to anger.
Logan's eyes scanned over the sentence, recognizing the handwriting as his own. It was cleaner though, practiced strokes with a pen. The man who wrote it clearly wanted his words to be legible as if he didn't want to forget who he was.
Logan let out the breath he held in his chest as he read over and over again the beginning paragraph. His name, his parents, his brother, his birth year.
Sabertooth? Sabertooth was his brother? In what universe would that make sense? The same man that had nearly killed him two weeks prior, threatened Ororo's life. The same man who killed the young woman next to his side, his daughter. Sabertooth's niece.
He swallowed hard as he looked down at the world. It only made sense why Sabertooth's vendetta ran strong against Logan. The man closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath. This wasn't what he thought he would find.
Amaris looked up at her father, wanting to do anything for him. Unable to find the words, she did something she even thought herself was questionable. She leaned against his side, her head resting against his shoulder. People evolve over time. They change their clothes, their hair, and sometimes their personalities.
Logan opened his eyes, turning his head to look down at her. His chest heaved a couple of deep breaths before he looked back down at the box. Inside he found some more pictures and a folded-up piece of fabric. It was a canary-colored baby dress. He set the journal down, reaching for the little dress. He held it up with both of his hands, his thumbs and index fingers pinching the shoulders. His eyes scanned it, never imagining seeing something so little being able to wear it one day. He brought it up to his face, inhaling a deep smell. His eyes flashed open staring out at the lake in front of him but his mind faded back to 1976.
Memories of a baby crying could be heard. The crying turned into laughter. "Where do you think you're goin', little lady?" he asked the little baby crawling on the floor. He saw images of himself sitting on the couch as the little girl sat in his lap drinking a bottle or eating a snack. Images of him holding his little family filled his mind.
Logan lowered the garment from his face, looking over to the girl sitting by his side. She looked up at him, seeing the shock spreading across his face as he smelled the air around her. Amaris?
The woman stared at him, narrowing one eyebrow. Dad? What's the matter? She could hear his heart pounding a mile a minute.
He dropped the dress, his hands reaching out to cup her face, one thumb dragging across her cheekbone. I... I remember. His words came as a whisper as his eyes quickly examined her features. She smelled the same as she did as the baby he remembered, aside from the new baby smell. Cinnamon, fir wood, and evening primrose. His jaw quivered as his hazel eyes met hers. I remember you. Logan fell into his heart's wishes, pulling her into his hold. It had been a different type of embrace compared to the one before. Somehow, a different side of his personality awakened by the dull scent of his baby girl, now a grown adult.
Amaris's eyes were wide as Logan pulled her tightly, holding her close to his frame. She almost felt the force of his strength was going to suffocate her before long. It was then that he pulled away from her, looking her face over again. You look so much like your mother. He studied her as if it had been the first time he saw her.
Amaris bit her tongue as he spoke about Kayla, somebody she had been the most anxious to learn about. Now knowing her secrets and how it drove the family apart.
The sound of snow crunching thankfully ended those thoughts. Amaris pulled out of his hold, standing and spinning around, unsheathing her bone claws. Logan stood up as quickly as possible, discarding the metal case to the side as the metal pierced through his skin. He stood over her and she hunched down near the ground.
Men began to approach the two of them, guns pointed at them. Amaris could hear static again near her ear. Her tiny braid that was weaved by the older Blackfoot woman brushed past her ear. She listened closely as a slight hum could be heard near her ear. She gripped the lock of hair, using her bone claws to cut it away. She put a tracker on me.
Logan snarled as he eyed the team of eight men. One of them began barking orders. This can all be very easy for you. Surrender and we won't hurt you.
The mutant man shook his head. I'm tired of taking orders from men like you.Logan charged at the men, bullets beginning to fly through the air. Logan made his way to the leader of the group, piercing his chest with his metal claws, and then tossing him over the hood of the Camino.
Amaris ran towards one of the outliers as he began to follow her father. She ran up behind him, jumping on his back before stabbing him with two claws. The man fell to the ground, using the last bit of energy he had to fire his gun again. Unluckily for Amaris, it pierced through one of the tires on the Camino.
With two of the men down, the others began fighting without order. Logan used the body of the first man he killed as a shield, approaching two more and quickly taking them out with expert precision. Logan tossed the body of the man to the side as another man charged him head-on.
As the man knelt on the ground, Amaris ran up to him, using him as a ramp as she placed one boot on his back to give her a running jump at the man. She sunk both of her hands into his shoulders, using her body to her advantage as she shifted her weight around and maneuvered him to the ground. Logan had been taking care of the last three men while Amaris stabbed the man beneath her several times. If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough, little girl.
The man used his weight against her, pinning her in an awkward position for her. In the flip, he wrangled one of her hands around, nearly snapping her wrist. Tell your old man Stryker says hi. The dying soldier maneuvered them one more time and a grueling snap could be heard.
Amaris looked down at her freed hand, only to see the three bone claws had been snapped off. She looked at the soldier who was slowly dying with a bloody smile as the missed three claws protruded from his shoulder and neck area. Amaris breathed rapidly, then hollered out as she gripped her wrist.
Logan had finished handling the business with the last of the troops when he turned around hearing her scream. He rushed over to her, placing his hands on her shoulders. As he took a step around to face her, his eyes caught the sight of her broken claws, observing the jagged cuts of the bone. His hands reached out for hers, looking over the damage she took. Charles can fix this.
Amaris looked up at him, the pain in her face overtaking her drive to hide her emotions as she began to cry. She shook her head before speaking, He can do many things, but he can't fix my mutation. Her eyes shifted from his down to her wounded hand. Blood dried on her lip as the last little drop fell onto one of her broken claws. I'm sorry, I lead them here. Her voice came as a whisper, turning to look back at the lock of hair hanging onto a rock on the ground next to where they had been sitting. They're looking for you... and I led them to you...
Logan knelt down in front of her, shaking his head as he pulled her face to look at him. People will always be looking for me, I suppose. But you didn't do this. It ain't your fault, baby girl. He wiped away a run then ran down her cheek. We need to get out of here as fast as possible. Avoid that boy of yours, get back to the mansion.
Amaris looked up at him, pressing her eyebrows together. But Alkali and the quarry-
It's gone. What I have that's left of me is what you found in that case, and You. His voice faltered toward the end, cracking with emotion. His hazel eyes met her hazel ones in a different light from their previous interactions. Something in him came to life when he remembered her as his little baby, following him around the house and clinging to his pant legs. Dancing in her high chair as they listened to music or had been eating. Snoring softly on his chest with her mother tucked under his arm asleep at his side. I found you, and I ain't about to let you go.
Amaris leaned into his hold, holding her injured hand closely to her chest as he wrapped his arms around her long hair, doing his best to comfort his little girl. We're gonna take this nice and slow, okay? Come on. He spoke to her, his arms wrapping under her legs and behind her back, picking Amaris up into his arms. He walked over to the Camino, opened the door, and set her in the passenger seat. He closed the door, walking over to the motorcycle. As easily as he picked her up, he picked the motorcycle up, setting it into the trunk bed of the Camino. He finally walked back to the metal box, picked it up, and walked toward the car with it.
Amaris looked down at her backpack, knowing she kept the file safe from him. The last thing she wanted him to know was that his family was so traitorous to him that to know even the woman he once loved was willing to trade him for her gain felt wrong. Would he ever think the same of Amaris, who only wanted to protect him from the truth? Would she hurt him more by concealing these documents from him?
The pain of her injured claws receding back into her forearm had been more painful than the thoughts she had. As Logan entered the cab of the Camino, he looked over at Amaris, watching her knuckles and wrist heal over. He turned the engine over, shifted it into gear, and drove down the mountain. They needed to get to the Mansion as quickly as possible, for their safety, and for more answers.
Nearly three weeks had passed since the events of Logan being attacked. In that amount of time, he had become a part of a team that defended mutants while also protecting humans, learned he had a daughter, and began to remember his past. He recalled more memories from different wars he had been in with each passing day since reading his old journal. He could also faintly remember his brother's face, how they cared for each other well and had been close. Now, Victor was gone, a shell of what he used to be in Logan's memories.
Logan led the drive down the driveway of Xavier's Institute, the motorcycle roaring with the old Camino following behind him. As they approached the garage of the mansion, Logan could see students and teachers peeking through the curtains. He chuckled to himself, finding a good spot to park before turning off the engine.
He walked to Amaris as she got out of the Camino, slinging her bag over her shoulder. Well, that was a great vacation. She commented, grabbing the box of items she rescued from their home. What are you going to do next?
Logan pursed his lips, shrugging his shoulders. I should speak to Charles. There has to be something we're overlooking. He walked by her side as they walked around to the main entrance of the mansion. And you?
Amaris didn't know what she should do. There were a million things on her mind, but her next steps back in the mansion seemed a million miles away. I don't know.
Logan opened the door, walking through and holding it open for her. You'll figure it out, I'm sure.
Logan! Came a giggling-sounding Rogue as she approached Logan and Amaris. She carefully wrapped her arms around his neck as he reached to hug her back. Amaris had closed the doors as the two interacted. Some other students passed by, greeting the man as they walked to their next classes.
Did you miss me, kid? He asked as they let go of each other. He chuckled when she shook her head no. How are you doing since we've been gone?
Good, really. Find anything you were looking for out there?
Logan tilted his head side to side, then nodded. Just a few things. He watched as a teenager approached Rogue, looking to be her same age, if not a year older. Who's this?
Bobby eyed him, holding his hand out. I'm Bobby. Rogue's boyfriend. He sounded very stern as if warning the older man. Logan reached out to shake his hand. Call me Iceman. Logan watched as Bobby's hand turned to ice, freezing Logan's hand.
Amaris approached them. Bobby. There are different ways to introduce yourself. She spoke, then watched as the two let go of each other's hands. Bobby nodded, remaining silent. Bobby is one of my students. Well, as long as I haven't been replaced or let go of.
A set of heels could be heard walking down the stairs next to them. It's okay, you just used all of your PTO for the year,Storm spoke, placing her hand on the rail. Look at who's come back.
Logan had looked up first, meeting Storm's gaze as she descended the stairs. He smiled, watching her every step. Yes, well, I left something here when I left. I had to come back for it.
Storm nodded, reaching for her neckline and removing the dog tags, gently handing them over. Logan smirked looking from the necklace to Storm. I wasn't talking about these, he hummed, earning him a chuckling response from Storm.
Amaris looked at Bobby and Rogue. Why don't you two go study or something? Who knows, we might have a pop quiz this week.
Bobby groaned at the sound as Rogue's gloved hand took hold of his hand and walked away from the adults. What are you going to do, Amaris? Storm asked her, using this time to avoid Logan's stare.
I'm going to find our good doctor. I need a patch job, she wiggled her fingers, looking up at her father and giving him a wink before walking away from her best friend and her father. What a wild concept.
Oh, she's downstairs. We picked somebody up yesterday. You should find her there. Storm then turned her attention back to Logan, his hand still cupping hers as she held the dog tags. We're taking the kids on a field trip tomorrow. We can always use an extra set of eyes when it comes to the students.
Logan hummed, looking down at their hands before looking at Storm again. I thought we were going out? As promised.
Oh, we are, Storm stated matter-of-factly. Tonight, seven o'clock. You pick the place.
Logan nodded as she set the necklace in his hand before walking away from him and heading down the hallway. Yes, ma'am. He spoke to himself, feeling a warm pit in his stomach. He couldn't remember what it was like to feel for another person before. He knew he deeply cared for and loved his daughter, but this was obviously a different type of feeling. What was it about the woman that made him feel so strange?
Scott appeared in the hallway, crossing his arms as he looked at Logan. Enjoy your joyride?
Logan looked at the other man, nodding. He fished for the keys out of his pocket, tossing them to Scott. It needs gas.
Scott caught the keys, and then tossed them back to Logan. Then fill her up.
Logan caught the keys, nodding slightly. After I take Storm out. He turned to walk down the hallway, hearing Scott mumble a little.
Logan walked down the hallway until he found Charles' office, hearing him on the other side. Before he could knock he could hear the older man's voice in his head. Come in Logan. Logan opened the door, adjusting his backpack as he entered. How did you fair?
We found some things, but not enough. He took in a deep breath as he watched the man in the wheelchair. Somebody had followed us for a while. Somebody who i think you know better than Amaris does.
Charles looked at him perplexed. Who was following you?
Logan took a seat on the couch as Charles gestured to him. Does the name Pietro Maximoff mean anything to you? He watched as Charles face turned white. I'd say it does.
Charles signed, looking at Logan as he spoke. Pietro was a troubled student. He was constantly in trouble with the staff here and local law enforcement. I will say he did observe better judgment when he was around Amaris.
Logan nodded, resting his forearms on his knees as he leaned in, locking his hands together. I think he is up to something.
Charles looked shocked. What do you mean by this, Logan?
He showed up where we were in Calgary. Said he was looking for his missing sister, but I could tell he was lying. Logan replied, unable to shake the feeling.
Did he say which sister, by chance? Charles asked.
Logan shook his head. No. As he watched Charles' expression change, he knew something else was wrong. Does it matter which one?
Charles moved his wheelchair so he could look out a window. He watched as children played on the basketball court. No, but Logan, there's something you should know about Pietro Maximoff. Logan watched as Charles spun his chair around to face him. Pietro's father is somebody you've already met. To know that you've had a run in with him already is concerning, but to hear he is potentially searching for a sibling ramps up this concern I have.
Logan stood up, walking over to Charles. Who?
Charles looked pained as he looked at Logan. Erik Lensherr. He choked out, thinking about the potential trouble that was brewing. Magneto.
Logan searched the Professor's face, watching as the man seemed to fall into a deep sense of dread. He followed us around, showed up in the places we went to, but he was actually following Amaris.
Charles looked up at Logan, hearing his words. I understand that she is your daughter, but I must implore you, you must keep an eye on her. If Pietro has decided to show up in place she hasn't been before, or he for the matter, she must remain guarded. She loved him, but he-
Logan could hear Charles' heart begin to quicken, a sure sign of panic or fear rising in his veins. He isn't any good, is he?
Charles shook his head, remaining silent as the two came to a silent agreement. Something was wrong, and some type of storm was brewing.
Amaris had dropped her items off in her bedroom, making her way down to the lab where she had been told she would see Jean. She had been wearing one of the band t-shirts that she recovered from the cabin home. It seemed he used to like The Rolling Stones int he seventies. It had been one of her fathers as the fabric swallowed her frame whole. All she needed was a pair of JNCO jeans and she could blend in with her students.
Jean walked around the corner, nearly walking into Amaris. The women laughed, catching their breaths before speaking. It's so nice to see you back, and in one piece! Jean spoke, looking thrilled to see the young woman back. Amaris' face fell from a happy one to a little somber one. What is it?
She held her hand up, wincing as she unsheathed her claws. I'm mostly one piece.
Jean was shocked, bringing her hands to touch the broken bones. My dear. She whispered analyzing the breaks. They were terrible, jagged and splintered.
Amaris nodded, biting her tongue as Jean touched the bone. The broken ends felt like live wires as the older woman examined them. I don't know if there is anything that can be done about it. I thought you were the best place to start.
Jean sighed a little, then holding her hands between both of hers. Let me do an exam. I'll speak with the Professor and Hank. Maybe we can do something like a prosthetic or figure out if your bones have any healing properties.
Amaris nodded, then following Jean into the Infirmary. She stood next to one of the tables as Jean began to gather some supplies.
Well I be. 'His must be heaven. Came a husky voice.
Amaris looked up, seeing a man with long red hair looking at her. She tilted her head to the side. Why? Because I'm an angel? She asked in her most dramatic flirty voice, sarcastically replying to the age old pick up line.
The man shook his head. If you're an angel, then I'm in the wrong place. See, 'dae don't fly down here wit me. It's too low for 'dem, an' their wings would burn up.
Amaris laughed a little, making the man point at her. Tell me, what's you name, Chere?
Amaris approached his bed, finally seeing his eyes. His irises were reg and the whites of his eyes were black. Amaris, Amaris Howlett.
The man grabbed her hand gently as she approached. Remy Lebeau, at your service. He pressed a kiss to her knuckles, causing a warm flush to flash across her cheeks and down her neck. He looked up at her, then running his thumb over her knuckles. They call me 'da Gambit.
Amaris felt the smile creep onto her face before she could counteract it. Gambit, huh? That's a cool little codename you have there.
Remy gave a small nod of his head, looking up at the woman. I'm sure yours is somethin' to marvel at too.
Oh, no. I don't have a code name. She responded, forgetting about her hand at this point.
Give me a couple days, Gambit promises he'll give ya a nickname worthy to be chanted.
Jean cleared her throat as she entered the room. Amaris turned around quickly as Remy let go of her hand. This had certainly been the most exciting thing that has happened to him since being recovered by the X-Men.
Amaris left Gambit as he winked at her, having a funny feeling that by the end of the week he would have a different outlook on his life, and it might be due to the shy woman he met, Amaris Howlett.

meet sasha and kiyoshi, disaster duo
going off this poll, i've decided to share a snippet of my original work ft. the main protagonist and her boyfriend :> more under the cut!!
.
Sasha sucks in a deep breath and steps in front of the couch. Immediately, her boyfriend’s eyes flick up from his phone screen to her face.
‘Kiyoshi.’
‘Yes, Sash?’
With as much will as she can muster, Sasha says, ‘I need your help with something. Something only you can help me with.’
‘Sure!’ Kiyoshi declares, and his enthusiasm is enough to cause a small smile to tug at Sasha’s lips. ‘What is it?’
That small smile quickly falls apart and dread fills every crevice of Sasha’s being. But she needs to do this. She has to. It’s the only way. It’s the worst idea she’s ever had.
‘I can’t believe I’m saying this, but…’ She shakes her head, wincing at the words that come out of her mouth. ‘D’you wanna go to the gym… together?’
The following silence is devastating. Sasha wants to dig a hole into the floor and crawl into it.
Kiyoshi blinks at her, his mouth agape. ‘Huh?’
Groaning into her palms, Sasha bites, ‘Please don’t make this more painful than it already is. Just say yes or no, dammit!’
‘Sasha…’ Peeking through her fingers, she sees Kiyoshi dump his phone onto the cushion next to him and hold his hands out to her, palms up. ‘As much as going to the gym together would make me very happy, I also know you.’
There is no malice in his voice, just pure fact. He does know her, and she knows herself. Kiyoshi’s the sporty one, the gym rat, the muscle pig. Sasha is… not.
‘Which is exactly why I need you to motivate me to go. Who knows what can happen in the future?’
‘The future?’ Alarm is rife in his expression. ‘Babe, where are you going with this?’
Sasha drops her hands from her face, her voice turning dry as she shoots Kiyoshi a weary look. ‘Well, y’know how it goes. All those YA novels. The trope is always the same: the protagonist didn’t know they were magic, and then all of a sudden they need to save the fucking world and they are very conveniently armed with MMA knowledge and are super fit and have amazing stamina and know how to hold their own in a spontaneous fight with otherworldly creatures. As you know, I am the complete opposite, so I better start training in case one of my future goddamn visions ends up being a plot to destroy the world and I’m somehow the only fucking person who can stop it.’
Gasping for air, Sasha tries to catch her breath and curses her lungs for not being to do their job properly. It just hammers the truth of the matter right down to its core. Kiyoshi is frowning, deep in thought, but there’s something in his expression that flickers ever-so-slightly. She knows what’s up. He’s trying to keep his face neutral, and if her nerves weren’t so shot, she’d be doing the same.
‘Tell me I’m wrong,’ she says to him instead.
‘Sasha. My love.’
It’s inevitable and Sasha cannot blame him for it. No longer able to keep his face straight, Kiyoshi crumbles and peals with laughter. Never mind that Sasha glares at him.
‘My love, I adore you, but you are thinking way too hard about this.’
‘I gotta be prepared, Kiyoshi!’ Sasha argues.
‘You are prepared!’ he counters. When all Sasha does is stare at him, question marks flying around her head, Kiyoshi puffs out his chest and states with confidence, ‘You have me! Ya think I’m gonna let ya fight alone should one break out? Girl, please. I’ll always have your back. Just say the word and I’ll come and one-two punch the living shit out of whoever tries to mess with you!’
The whole scenario is emphasised with Kiyoshi’s signature grin, the one Sasha’s seen flashed at the opposing team during his volleyball matches, and with him flexing his biceps. The whole thing is hilarious, and Sasha would laugh if not for the overwhelming fondness that blooms across her whole chest. God, she got lucky with this guy.
But there’s just one small problem with his proposal.
She says gravely, ‘That’s sweet of you, darl, but I hate to break it to you... you don’t have MMA skills either.’
Kiyoshi blinks. Sasha blinks back.
‘Guess we’re fucked then,’ he says.
‘Guess we are,’ she echoes.
‘Better go train then.’
‘Better go train.’
Tapping a finger to his chin, Kiyoshi’s voice suddenly becomes pensive. ‘Say, wanna place a bet?’
Not one to back down from a challenge, Sasha asks, ‘What kind of bet?’
Dark eyes sparkle and Sasha’s hooked.
‘If you can survive two consecutive days training at the gym with whatever regime I throw at you to “prepare for the end of the world,’ Kiyoshi pitches, ‘I’ll do whatever you want for a week.’
‘A month,’ Sasha rebuts, smiling when Kiyoshi nods his head in agreement. Then she pauses. ‘And if I can’t?’
She regrets the question the second it passes her lips for an evil-looking grin splits Kiyoshi’s cheeks.
‘Kiyoshi—’
‘If you can’t,’ he says, ‘you have to eat my famous stir-fry.’
Horrified, Sasha splutters, ‘Kiyoshi—’
‘Broccoli and all. Every. Last. Bite.’
‘You fucking arsehole!’ she shouts. Seeing no other alternative that won’t end up with this conversation being a waste, Sasha throws her hands up in defeat. ‘Fine! Just you wait. I’ll fucking do it.’
Two days later
She storms out of the living room, not wanting to give her boyfriend the satisfaction, but his delighted laughter follows her. It’s contagious, and she laughs quietly to herself. But her determination is stronger.
.
‘I gotta say, Sash. I’m very surprised,’ he says in awe.
.
Watching Sasha drop the weights on the floor with a deep groan, Kiyoshi’s mouth turns down at the corners.
With her hands on her knees, huffing and puffing and wishing for a long, long shower, Sasha peers up at him through her eyelashes. Her hair is stuck to her forehead, disgustingly damp with sweat, and her arms are screaming at her, but she manages a smug grin.
‘What can I say?’ she wheezes. ‘I’d rather kill my arms and legs, hack a lung out and feel like death than put Satan in my mouth.’
Kiyoshi laughs and smiles hugely at her. ‘I can see that! I’m super proud of you though.’
He makes a heart with his hands to exemplify this, and Sasha barely manages to make one as well.

The Door that was Never Supposed to be Opened.
Chapter 3: A Prisoner in a Guest Room
{Chapter 1} {Chapter 2} {Chapter 4}
{A/N: This was originally posted on AO3, if you would like to read it there you can find it HERE. I'm going to be straight up with you and tell you that this is pretty much a self-indulgent self-insert fic. I'm not gonna lie. If you don't like that, that's cool, have a good day. But if you're DTF with it, let's get right into the story.}
{Art Credit: (Also check out her comics!)
Soft and silky fabric is the first thing that registers, even before I open my eyes. The next is voices yelling, but one in particular jumps out to me. It’s Ms. Downard. She’s furious, more cross than when she found out one of the maids had been stealing for weeks. But I can’t make out the words- only the tone.
There’s a second voice, the young master Burgess. He’s also yelling. But I can’t focus. I’m trying so hard to make out the words but none of them come to me. I try to open my eyes but my body is not my own. I can’t move, can’t yell out. I’m so tired. So very tired. And my head hurts.
Maybe I’ll just rest for a bit longer.
I don’t know how long I’m out for. Could have been minutes or days. When I first am able to open my eyes, Ms. Downard is sitting across from me on a chair with her head hung low, resting it in her hands. I grumble and she shoots up, coming to my side and giving me a bit of water. We’re in one of the guest rooms of the house, not the servant’s quarters like I’m used to. There’s a faint crackle of a fire, and the smell of burning wood hangs in the air. I’ve never stayed anywhere besides the servants' quarters. I don’t know how I got here
“Don’t try to move too much, Dear. We don’t want you straining yourself.” She looks sad as she takes a wet towel and wipes my forehead.
“What happened?” I try to sit up but am pushed gently back down. The last thing I can clearly remember is being told that most of us were being let go. I went to go pack and then- nothing.
“I’m so sorry. I should have made you leave when you first found him. I should have fired you on the spot.” She sniffles and moves a wet strand of hair from my face. I look her in the eyes and see that they’re red and puffy. She’s been crying.
“I knew you would try to free him. You have a good heart, a better one than I do.” tears begin to fall from her face, as she speaks. I start to remember what happened. I tried to help him, I wanted to free him. But Alex found me.
“I was too cowardly to do it myself. I’m so sorry, Patricia.” She cries as I try to slowly sit up again, this time she helps me.
“What’s stopping you from doing it now? He doesn’t deserve to be a prisoner. We can free him. If you distract the Master I’m sure I could-” I move to get up but Ms Downard puts a hand on my shoulder and pushes me back down.
“Enough of that. Master Alex could have killed you! He nearly did.” She stands and moves to the door. She takes a key out of her pocket and unlocks the door. “I’ll be back in a bit. You need your rest.” She wipes the last few tears from her face and exits the room. A moment later, I hear the click of the lock.
I listen to her footsteps dissipate and wait for a moment in complete silence before throwing the blanks away from me and swinging my legs over the bed. When I try to stand up, the floor begins to sway and my head begins to throb. I quickly sit back down and focus on my breathing before trying to once again stand.
This time, I don’t get woozy but my head still throbs. I make my way over to the door and try the handle, hoping that the clicking of the lock was just my imagination. The handle doesn’t turn, and as I pull on the door my legs threaten to give out. I press my head against the door, attempting again to steady myself. I walk back to the bed and sit down. A flood of emotions overcome me and tears begin to fall, blurring my vision.
How could Master Burgess do this to me? How could Ms Downard? I’ve worked for them since I was 16. I’m a prisoner in the house I’ve called home for five years. I should have never gone into that room. After being loyal for so long, they just turned their back on me like a common criminal. I lay back down and curl onto my side, letting the tears flow freely.
After a bit, the throbbing in the back of my head lulls me into a restless slumber.
~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~
I don’t see anyone for a few days. I wake up, find fresh food and water on the table, and sit feeling empty for hours and hours with nothing to do until I fall back asleep and repeat the cycle. Eventually, I get bored and rummage around the room. There’s an attached bathroom that is pretty empty, save for the necessary toiletries. The wardrobe is entirely barren, as well as the vanity and bedside tables. There is a journal and a few pencils in the drawer of the writing desk, but nothing else. An empty bookshelf sits collecting dust instead of stories, so I decide to take the journal and read the private words of its owner.
On the cover of the journal in ornate letters, it reads “Macsen Lewis.” I turn to the front page and begin reading. The journal is mostly empty, with the first few pages filled with numbers. It looks to be an expense ledger. I carefully rip out those first few pages and sit, pondering what to write in the book. I could write my last testament, but I don't own anything worthwhile. I could write how horrid Alex Burgess is, but I doubt anyone will ever find this, or even care.
So instead of writing, I draw. I’m not the most skilled, but I enjoyed doing it in my free time. I start with little flowers and butterflies, and then draw the chair in the room, and a few other inanimate objects. The little bit of stimulation gives me a rush of hope, and I want more. More drawing, more ideas. So I start to draw a person. At first, I think it should be Ms Downard, but then I remember that she is partly at fault for me still being here, so I scribble her out. Everyone I’ve known for the last five years has been in this house, and I don’t want to draw any of them. I don’t even want to think of any of them. Until one face pops into my mind: The man in the basement. Dream of the Endless, as Master Burgess called him.
His face begins to form in my head. His stark black hair against his sharp cheekbones. His eyes that seem to sparkle like the stars when the light hits them just right. He had an odd beauty to him, something that lures you in but also scares you. His face starts to take shape on the paper as my pencil glides over the sheet. It’s not great, but it somewhat resembles him. I can’t seem to get his face shape right, and his eyes don’t really look right either.
I eventually give up and lay back down on the bed, holding the journal to my chest. I close my eyes to sleep again, but the sleep doesn’t come, so I just lay there. After a minute I hear footsteps approaching my door, and the lock clicks. The door swings open and Ms. Downard comes in, carrying a tray of food. I sit up without a word and watch her pace it on the table, removing the empty one. I eye the open door as she does this, and begin to slowly move.
“I would advise against that. You’ll be caught and brought back to this room before you can even make it to the front door.” She says, turning to me with the empty tray in her hands.
“Please, Miss. Just let me go- I won’t tell anyone. I’ll leave and I won’t ever look back. No one even has to know that it was you that let me go, just leave the door unlocked and I’ll leave quietly. Please.” I stand up and approach her, placing my hand over hers on the handle of the tray. She pulls away and shakes her head.
“I’m sorry, Patricia.” She makes her way towards the door. My anger begins to bubble as she turns her back to me, and I harshly grab her shoulder, stopping her.
“You were right- you are a coward! And you’ll burn in hell for letting this happen! All I wanted was to set that innocent man free. He is no devil and you know it!” I yell at her and she quickly turns as a sharp pain spreads across my cheek. Her hand still hangs in the air from the movement of the slap.
“You stupid girl, I was trying to protect you. I have served this family for longer than you’ve been alive. I owe them my entire life. It would do you some good to have the same loyalty to them that I do.”
“The same loyalty?” I scoff, the sting of the slap fueling my anger. “They fired me! I am not the one that needs to be lectured on loyalty. I have been here for five years, this is the only home I have known for so long. They took my loyalty and they spat on it. And so did you.” I turn back to the bed and sit down, not looking at her. Eventually, I hear her sigh and walk away, the familiar click of the lock making my stomach sink like a stone.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1 2023 — 9:19 PM
YOU DIDN'T REMEMBER being this warm when you fell asleep on the couch, and you also didn't remember the view of the city you woke up too.
The sky was dark with city lights shining brightly through the window, ensuring that the stars couldn't shine. If you hadn't known better, you would've assumed that the city was the only source of light providing you with the ability to see the rest of the room.
Slowly sitting up, you try your best to blink away the sleepiness you still felt as you examine your surroundings.
'Shit I'm still at Jing Yuan's.'
The bedroom door was open with the rest of the penthouse's lights on with no sign of Jing Yuan as far as you could tell. Pulling the blankets off of you, you crawl to the edge of the bed to get off. As your feet meet the cold wooden floor, you pause as your vision becomes clouded with black before returning back to your normal eyesight.
Blinking rapidly before you take another step, you see Mimi stalking towards you, her shadow being twice the size of her. Smiling softly as she looked at you, you meet her halfway to lean down to gently stroke her back to which she obliges.
"C'mon, let's go find your dad," you straighten up and walk out the doorway with Mimi trailing behind. Squinting your eyes for a moment at the sudden bright light you see Jing Yuan sitting on one of his barstools, elbows resting on the marble counter of his island.
"There you are, I was wondering when you were going to wake up," he looked up at you from his phone.
"Hi," you say, before feeling a sense of guilt wash over you. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to sleep over I swear. It won't happen again, you really didn't have to carry me to the bed I would still be good for the couch—"
You were rambling, emotions even spreading to your hands with them pointing and moving around to try and convey the guilt you felt. It didn't help how Jing Yuan's original smile slowly fell which only registered in your mind as a sign of annoyance.
"—Sorry I was ranting, I can go now if you want me to actually. Let me just grab my stuff real quick," you finish before walking to where Jing Yuan was for your phone. Reaching for your phone, you feel a gentle hold on your hand.
Shimmering gold eyes meet yours, not a single word is said between the two of you. Your lips are slightly parted open in shock, and you notice his eyes darting to your lips for a moment before you feel a pleasant sensation on them.
Jing Yuan's soft lips tasted faintly of something sweet, making you think back to your own lips on whether or not they were chapped. It's not like that thought could last long before you could feel his arm wrap around your waist, pulling you closer towards him forcing you to grasp your left hand on his shoulder to stabilize yourself.
You feel his lips curve upwards. He maneuvers his body towards you, spreading his legs so your body could be closer to his and so he could hold you closer.
At this point both of his hands were holding your hips, some of his fingers reaching under your hoodie to feel your skin underneath it while one of your hands was still holding onto his shoulder while the other was tangled in his white strands.
You were the first to pull away for air, your lips having a tingly pleasant feeling to them with your stomach being full with butterflies. Taking deep breaths, you let out a breathy laugh as Jing Yuan presses soft kisses to your jawline.
It was perfect. It felt, perfect.
Bzzt... Bzzt... Bzzt
Okay what the fuck.
Hurriedly grabbing one of the phones on the table, you notice that it was Jing Yuan's due to Mimi being the lockscreen. It kept on coming from Twitter and a groupchat he was in. Noticing your attention was no longer on, he began to trail his kisses all the way down to your collarbone sucking gently.
Letting out a sharp gasp, you swiftly set his phone to do not disturb and placing it back on the counter before going back to tangling both your hands in his hair.
Bzzt... Bzzt... Bzzt...
Now it was your phone's turn buzzing with notifications.
"Oh my fucking— what is it now?" you mutter, scrambling for your own phone and you see it's also from Twitter and your groupchat. "Oh shit this might actually be important."
Jing Yuan quirks up an eyebrow before you say that he should probably check his own phone as well. You leave his arms to sit on the marble countertop while he grabs his phone with a pout on his face, although his hand doesn't leave your thigh.

Today on Author's Commentary, our first topic is
WHY GABE?
WHY DID YOU DESIGN YOUR OFFICE LIKE THIS?????
This post popped just up again in my feed and it sums up many of my grievances with the ridiculous design of Gabriel's atelier (we really had no idea what we were getting into when this room first showed up in The Bubbler and we all thought it was just Nathalie's boring office) and I might need to rant more about this on my own time, but for now let us talk about the things that make drawing this space a nightmare.
First, the checkerboard floor. I'm lucky enough that I've got a checkerboard filter in my image editing program, but figuring out how to edit that it look like an actual floor angled the right way was extremely annoying.
Next, I know that this catwalk can be used as a table (see here):
but if they're sitting here, they both have to be sitting on their knees on the glass protrusion around it since it appears to be a bench (not to be confused with the seating around the outside of the U-ditch that was formerly hot pink) (see what Nathalie seems to be sitting on here):
I only noticed this after drawing the picture of Nathalie and Kagami sitting across from one another and I didn't want to go back and fix it. So I probably blocked the whole scene wrong but I have elected to not care since this is the stupidest room in the entire show and it deserves to be wrong.
(Also, if anyone was wondering, there are a bunch of Find Adrien advertisements on the catwalk, with a particularly large billboard being close to where Kagami was sitting so that it'd block her peripheral vision of Gabe hiding in his secret elevator).
Speaking of Gabe hiding in his elevator, I'm not sure if he's programmed the thing to be able to stop in place or if he's just pushing against the sides of the tube with his legs to keep him in place, but the latter does sound like the funnier option so let's go with that.
And another GabeFail headcanon that doesn't really affect anything: if you squint to read the 'ransom note' he sent to the Find Adrien inbox for Nathalie to read, he claims that the kidnapper will "unalive" Adrien--this is because "kill" appearing anywhere in the email makes the system flag it as junk and it'll get automatically filtered out. Gabe doesn't know how to fix this, so he had to use "unalive" as a work around. Also, the dummy email that he's sending from is "[email protected]" because I thought it'd be funny.
On a completely unrelated note: I feel weird about Kagami just happening to have her notebook in this scene, but seeing as she keeps it in her jacket while she's fencing in the actual show, it might not be too out there (how her notebook even fits in her jacket is a separate issue). I did consider having her akumatized object being something else than her dried rose (since the show has demonstrated that the same akuma isn't always consistent about this), but when I went back and reviewed the Oni-Chan footage, I realized that I'd forgotten that her viney sword was literally that rose and changing it would mean figuring out how to turn a different object into a sword.
A part of me wishes I'd just come up with a completely new design for this akuma like I’d originally thought (I only got as far as a name: Hedatari-San, in reference to the concept of 'hedatari', which the internet tells me means a gap, distance, or estrangement), but the fact that Kagami previously had the ability to find someone while she was Oni-Chan made me scrap that line of thinking and just use that akuma form. That being said, I've since discovered just how annoying Oni-Chan's design is to draw, so I'm still regretting my life choices, but it's officially too late to change things now.
Part 23. Contracted Liberation
<< First | < Previous | Next >
Description below the cut
Gabriel bangs his fists against the wall.
Gabriel: Nothing. No sign of Adrien. No leads. And my arsenal of tools is completely ineffective. My thumb on the mayor to control the police's search? Marketing initiatives backed by a global brand? The powers of the most feared supervillain in the world? All useless! And just to twist the knife, my akumas have started dying before they can evilize anyone!
Nathalie interlaces her fingers and looks away, in thought.
Nathalie (internally): It sounds like Catwalker has been using his Cataclysm preemptively. Best not to point that out to Gabriel right now, though. We shouldn't target Catwalker so soon after my truce with him and Ladybug. Even if the heroes don't know how to contact Adrien, remaining cordial with them may open doors later on.
Nathalie points outward.
Nathalie (aloud): It's possible that the police who have been investigating Adrien's disappearance have been nearby often enough that they're shooting akumas on sight. Perhaps you should consider going back to akumatizing those without any connection to Adrien?
Closeup of Gabriel gnashing his teeth.
Gabriel: Unacceptable! I must find my son!
As Gabriel continues to bash against the wall, Nathalie comes up behind him.
Nathalie: If Adrien has any sort of agency right now, he might see all the akumas targeting him as a reason to stay in hiding. Let up on that and he might consider Paris safe enough to come home.
Gabriel flings out his arm dramatically as a vein pulses in his forehead.
Gabriel: And if it wasn’t his choice? Stopping my pursuit for even a moment could result in him slipping through my fingers permanently! I will only stop using my akumas to search for my son when he is back under my roof where he belongs!
Nathalie puts her cellphone up to her ear.
Nathalie: Very well. I'll make some calls. If you need an akuma who is upset about Adrien, we can make one...
Nathalie (internally): One who will keep you busy until I figure out what to do next.
Cut to Kagami seated on the pink cushions in the ditch that comprises the seating area of Gabriel’s atelier. She folds her hands over her lap on top of her notebook.
Nathalie: Thank you for meeting with me on such short notice, Kagami.
Kagami: You asked my mother to send me here. How could I refuse? I assume this is about Adrien?
Nathalie: It is.
Kagami: I suppose you want to involve me in a publicity stunt for your 'Find Adrien' campaign? Is the 'kidnapping' story you fed the press no longer working?
Nathalie: This has nothing to do with marketing, I assure you.
Nathalie sits on the other side of the seating area and reads off something from her tablet.
Nathalie: Our 'Find Adrien' inbox received a peculiar anonymous tip: 'You have security cameras, go check the footage!' We did. Our security cameras caught nothing. Just Adrien entering his room after he returned from his fencing lesson. Nothing else.
Closeup of Nathalie’s face, her eyebrows accusatory.
Nathalie: It's strange that we acquired those security cameras from Tsurugi Industries, isn't it?
Nathalie puts down her tablet on the seat beside her. Kagami folds her arms. On the center block between Nathalie and Kagami, an assortment of Find Adrien posters have been placed, including a large billboard design near where Kagami is sitting.
Kagami: You think my mother had something to do with this?
Nathalie: No, Tsurugi-san would have no motive for hacking her product or absconding with Adrien. But you might. You would have been one of the last people to see him. You had the opportunity to coordinate a plan with him. Not to mention that you have a history of encouraging Adrien to go behind his father's back.
Kagami: So do a lot of his friends. Blame them for hacking your cameras, I wasn't involved. But if I had been asked, I would have helped Adrien flee this place. He shouldn't have to put up with living by his father's rules anymore.
Kagami folds her arms and grins evilly.
Kagami: Frankly, I'm happy that he finally grew enough of a backbone to actually act. There's nothing you can do to stop him now.
Cut to the back of the atelier by Emilie’s painting. The hole for Gabriel’s secret elevator is open, inside of which the head of Shadowmoth is poking out of. Shadowmoth taps out a message on his cane.
Nathalie (internally): This isn't working. Kagami's not overwhelmed by emotion, she's just smug. I'm out of my element here. I've gotten used to defusing situations before they become a problem, not inflaming them. Gabriel's far better suited to being a provocateur. He knows what buttons to push and won't let anyone get in his way for long. But since he insisted on hiding nearby to sic his akuma on her before anyone can interfere, I get to be the one to ruin someone's day...
Cut to a closeup of Nathalie’s tablet as it beeps with a new text message.
Nathalie (internally): Hmm? A new message?
Shadomoth (text message): I left some stronger motivation for you in the Find Adrien inbox. Use it. --🦋
Nathalie (internally): Gabriel, what are you up to now? *sigh* I guess I'll just have to go along with this...
Nathalie holds up her tablet and reads from it.
Nathalie (aloud): Oh my.
Kagami: What now?
Nathalie’s tablet: Banner: FIND ADRIEN. From: [email protected]. We have Adrien Agreste in our clutches and are going to unalive him and you can't do anything about it! Muhahahaha!
Nathalie: A ransom message just came through. They're threatening to kill Adrien.
Kagami: To kill...?
Nathalie passes through the door out of the atelier.
Nathalie: Excuse me, I need to... speak with Mr. Agreste about handling this development.
Nathalie (internally): That should be enough motivation, right?
Cut to a closeup of Kagami opening her notebook, where she has taped a picture of her and Adrien and preserved a dried rose.
Kagami: Adrien didn't choose this? This whole time I assumed that he ran away, but he really was kidnapped?
Kagami holds the rose in her hand, teary eyes clenched shut and teeth gritted.
Kagami: Whoever took him needs to pay for what they've done!
From the elevator hole, Shadowmoth raises out his hand and unleashes an akuma.
Shadowmoth (internally): Yes! I can feel her anger now!
Shadowmoth (under his breath): Go, my akuma!
The akuma makes contact with the rose in Kagami’s hand.
Shadowmoth: Hello, Oni-Chan.
Cut to Nathalie eavesdropping from just outside the atelier, looking startled.
Nathalie (internally): Wait, Oni-Chan? He was supposed to make her Riposte again, not—
Cut back to Kagami as the light mask illuminates her angered face.
Shadowmoth: The boy you so deeply care for is in grave danger. I'm giving you the power to track down the last person who saw Adrien Agreste. You will make them powerless to do anything ever again.
Kagami: With pleasure, Shadowmoth.

not yet. jjk
not yet, almost, right now pairing. jungkook x reader genre. fluff, some angst, pg-13 word count. 4.1k warnings. mentions of infidelity, some feelings come to light, unrequited pining, spur of the moment kissing, light grinding on the dance floor, jungkook pops a boner and wants to cry</3 summary. jungkook feels the pang of guilt in his gut when you spot your recent ex out with his new girl, and what better way to make the jerk hurt than to have him believe you were now dating him, the neighbor he had been insecure about your whole relationship note. this is based off a request sent a while back for numbers #43 and #67 from this prompt list! (i think this might turn into a small drabble series...mayhaps)
Jungkook can spot your discomfort easily, the occasional colorful light bouncing off your face showing him the flash of anger in your eyes. The only reason he’s not currently running for the hills, knowing very well how mean you can get when angry, is because your glare isn’t being sent at him. Not yet at least.
Because of this, he allows himself to enjoy the cute way your nose scrunches up, lips twisting in displeasure as you stare at the crowd of people, eyes locked onto an unlucky bystander. Honestly, he wishes he could hear your thoughts, wanting to know exactly what has your panties in a bunch, ruining your mood instead of letting you enjoy the expensive fruity drink he had just bought you as payment for allowing him to drag you out of the house. Jungkook isn’t a mind reader though, so he decides on his next best option.
“Who’s got you looking all sour?” he sighs, resting his elbow on the counter of the bar as he inches closer to you, head at your level in an attempt to match your line of sight.
“Him,” you seethe, brows pinching together, showing those light wrinkles in between them, a product of how expressive you were and definitely something Jungkook always teases you about.
Jungkook can only hum in question, eyes squinting in the low light as he attempts to find the him you’re talking about. With a slight turn of your head, you’re inches from Jungkook’s cheek, the obvious look of confusion etched onto his soft features letting you know he was absolutely lost. With a soft huff your fingers are gripping his cheeks and moving his face in the right direction, free hand pointing as discreetly as you could to the man in question.
You know he spots him, you can feel his jaw tense underneath your grip. What you don’t feel is the sudden guilt that fills him up, sloshing in his stomach and mixing with the liquor he just drank until he feels a little queasy. Jungkook instantly regrets coaxing you out of your little dungeon with the promise of cheering you up. If he had known the spawn of satan–dubbed your ex boyfriend and also the reason why you were in a downward spiral–would be here, he would have just let you rot in your bed like you originally wanted.
“Do you wanna go?” he mutters out, cheeks still squished by your slowly tightening grip, and he begins to accept the fact that you might just break his jaw right now. It’s fine, he thinks, he deserves it.
“No,” you grunt stubbornly, fingers finally releasing him as you turn back around and choose to face the endless amount of bottles behind the bar. He may be the reason you were currently on a never ending cycle of watching sad, heartbreaking chick-flicks from the early 2000’s, dumping you with the lame excuse that you two were on different paths and he just wasn’t ready for commitment. It’s something you accepted, albeit jaw tense and eye twitching as you did so, but you figured you would eventually find your way back to each other.
Your mind was warped, believing you were meant to be, that this was just a mere bump in the road that you would laugh at together in the future.
That is, until he blocked you on all social media, and you had to hear from your best friend that he had moved on days later and was now with some blonde-haired, fresh faced, supermodel-esque woman that you could not get yourself to hate. Instead you took to endlessly scrolling through her instagram while you stuffed your face with milk chocolate and questioned why you had ever convinced yourself that you had a future with him.
“Good, he’s a dick and you shouldn’t let him ruin your night.” Jungkook grumbles, slinging his arm around you as you hold your forgotten drink by your lips. He had seen your relationship with Hajoon play out from the very beginning, knowing slightly more intimate details than he would like considering you were next door neighbors and happened to share a wall between your bedrooms.
The friendship you had with Jungkook blossomed right after you moved in four years ago, friendly neighborly talks morphing into actual conversations, and eventually inviting each other into your apartments where you would attempt to beat him at any game you had in your Nintendo switch. It was a great dynamic, providing the two of you with a sense of relief after your busy days at work.
Unfortunately, the second you got with Hajoon was the end of any of those playful matches, your ex’s jealousy making you distance yourself in an attempt to keep your relationship at bay.
Jungkook can’t say he didn’t see it coming, having heard the way you’d cry anytime you had an argument and your ex would leave, slamming the door behind him so hard Jungkook’s walls would rattle. It had become such a common occurence it was a shock he hadn’t marched out of his house, met Hajoon in the hall, and gave him a clean right hook in your honor.
He was secretly hoping you’d break up with the jerk for your own good–and maybe for his own personal reasons too. Your ex was right in being wary of Jungkook, knowing the way a boy's mind worked, sensing Jungkook’s feelings for you in a way you were too blind to see. Jungkook wasn’t a dick though, he could tell you wanted your relationship to work so he kept his distance.
When weeks went by without the sight of him he began to think you finally did it, a call for celebration that made him want to go over to your place to challenge you for a friendly match of Mario Kart like you used to.
Until he ran into you in the hall and took note of what a mess you were, his smile falling from his face when he saw how defeated you looked.
Your shameful confirmation that you had been royally dumped made his heart twist for you, his selfless tendencies urging him to help you feel better in any way he could. You were thankful for it, grateful that he was keeping you company while you moped around, providing you with just the right amount of distraction to allow you to breathe and slowly heal.
Honestly, today would have been just another day if it wasn’t what was supposed to be your two year anniversary. The second Jungkook heard the telltale sounds of The Notebook starting up in your bedroom—something he hadn’t heard through the drywall separating your rooms in weeks—is when he knew something was up.
Jump to: now.
With Jungkook looking sheepish and wishing he had chosen another bar, and you gripping the cup so hard it was a shock it hadn’t shattered in your grasp.
“He’s with her,” you whisper out harshly, head downcast, swirling the liquid around in your glass as you force yourself not to look back at them. The vision of them coddled up in the corner, her arms wrapped around his while she laughed at whatever he whispered in her ear had stung enough the first time, you weren’t jealous but the pain still lingered inside of you..
“Just try to ignore him. Don’t let it bother you,” he attempts to reassure you, the bass of the music muffling the way you try to deny the fact that you’re clearly upset, his attention now elsewhere.
Jungkook takes a chance and looks back once more, eyes narrowed as he searches for Hajoon in the crowd. He spots him with more ease the second time, seeing the way he lazily drinks from his glass while the blonde rests her head on his shoulder, lips moving as she tells him something that makes him smile.
“Oh shit,” Jungkook chokes, eyes widening slightly in shock when Hajoon meets his gaze. He’s been caught, too late for him to avert his eyes and pretend he wasn’t blatantly staring. He can only give him a tight-lipped smile that he hopes doesn’t come across as an invitation to come say hello.
“What?” you question, turning to stare at Jungkook and seeing the look on his face, doe eyes swirling with a mix of emotions.
“He saw me,” he speaks through clenched teeth, lips barely moving as he does so, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.
“What?” you repeat harshly, setting the drink back down as your palms grow clammy, finger tugging at your shirt’s neckline when the air becomes thick and stuffy.
“Oh fuck, he’s coming.” Jungkook throws back the remainder of his drink, grimacing at the burn lingering in the back of his throat before placing the cup down. “Just follow along,” he whispers into your ear, standing tall as Hajoon approaches the two of you.
He’s ballsy, Jungkook will give him that, more so when he completely ignores Jungkook in favor of calling out your name.
“Y/N, oh my god is that you?”
Jungkook can’t stop the way he glares at the bastard, not even the small jab to his side that you deliver with your elbow is enough to wipe the look off his face. Still, you pause to breathe, shutting your eyes briefly before plastering a look of surprise on your features as you turn around to face him.
“Hajoon, what are you doing here?” Your voice has risen a few octaves, pitch surpassing the normal customer service voice and entering unhinged and borderline crazed territory. Hajoon doesn’t notice though, and neither does the girl strapped to his side, the two of them smiling at you and not giving Jungkook a glance.
“Oh, we’re just celebrating our four month anniversary.” The girl finally speaks up, giving Hajoon a kiss to the cheek and completely missing the way your face instantly falls. Her innocent statement has you coming to the sudden realization that this son of a bitch had been cheating on you for the last two months of your relationship.
Jungkoon spots it easily though, can sense the way your body tenses up beside him, no doubt will the rage flare up in the form of hot tears spilling over and onto your cheeks soon. One look at Hajoon’s pleased face is enough to not want to give him the satisfaction of seeing the way he affects you.
“Young love,” Jungkook sighs, long arm pulling you into his side obnoxiously, seeing the way Hajoon eyes the two of you carefully. “I can relate. We’ve been together for...what is it again babe, five months?”
Hajoon doesn’t even attempt to be discreet, eyes bulging out and fist curling at his side. He had hated Jungkook the second he met him, intimidated by his physique and the way he made you laugh with ease, threatened by him in every sense. It was the reason he told you to cut ties with him, his fragile ego not trusting your neighbor, fully convinced all Jungkook would have to do was beckon you over for you to leave him.
Any man would feel threatened by him, just looking at him now with his long hair framing his face, the challenging glimmer in his eyes as he gauges the other’s reaction. Hajoon follows Jungkook’s arm, seeing how it snakes around your body and settles with his palms curling around your waist, fingers gently squeezing your skin.
Jungkook chuckles when Hajoon meets his gaze once more, free hand adjusting the yellow tinted sunglasses perched on his head—something that should make him look like an A class douchebag, because who the hell brings shades to a fucking club. But like all things, Jungkook makes it work.
All of this tied in with that small, white lie, makes Hajoon’s head spin in a jealous whirlwind. It was fine and dandy if he cheated on you but how dare you give him the same treatment, with your neighbor of all people.
“Five months?” He bites first, eyes bouncing back and forth between the two of you.
The insecurity is written all over his face, it almost makes him shrink in size and for some reason it fills you with confidence. You stand taller now, sliding your own arm around Jungkook’s side as you nuzzle into him.
“Almost six.” Those two words are the nails into his coffin of insecurity, probably increasing his trust issues for years to come, but considering it was no longer your problem, you don’t care.
“Wow, almost half a year. That’s so cute, isn’t it?” His girlfriend coos, perfectly manicured hand placed over her chest, totally missing the way Hajoon looks like a kicked puppy.
Now that he doesn’t have the one up, he’s no longer interested in sticking around, the gross green monster perched on his shoulder laughing at his misfortune.
“Adorable,” he grunts out. “We should get back to our table. It was nice seeing you.”
He doesn’t wait for a response before walking away, his girlfriend giving you a small wave before following behind him. The growing distance between you makes your muscles relax, sagging in relief as you release Jungkook’s side and hunch over the sticky bar.
“I think I'm gonna puke,” you groan out, eyes going crossed when you feel Jungkook rest two fingers against your lips, sending him a questionable stare.
“Please don’t, that drink was expensive. You’re only allowed to hurl as the grand finale of the night, and we’re just getting started.”
Jungkook smiles when you shut your eyes and groan, your mood was already down in the dumps, and despite the small rush you got from putting Hajoon in his place, you were still craving the comfort of your bed. “Can we go?”
The bartender proceeds to place a glass of water in front of you, assuming your slumped state was due to intoxication and not the gross remnants of running into an ex-boyfriend. You grab the glass regardless, taking a big gulp of the cool liquid and sighing when it helps calm you down.
“If you really want to go we can, but at least try to loosen up.” His smile is genuine, cheeks pushed out as he looks down at you with kind eyes. “We’ll stay on the opposite side, and if you’d still rather watch the Notebook for the millionth time, we can do that.”
With a half-hearted groan you nod, allowing Jungkook to order another round of drinks for you to enjoy before eventually dragging you out onto the dance floor. He knows how to keep the atmosphere up, goofy smile on his lips as he bobs his head along to the loud beat, hands clasped with yours and wiggling in time to the music.
“You love this song,” he manages to say through the noise, pulling you closer as he settles into a spot on the decently packed floor. You couldn’t even deny it, he heard just how often you played it through the paper thin walls. That playlist full of hit 2000’s songs was your guilty pleasure, and it was the main reason he had decided to bring you to this club on their themed night.
Jungkook was attentive, he knew so much about you and played it off casually, always listening to things you say you enjoy, storing them into a folder labeled under your name and shoved into a very important part of his brain.
You knew he was trying his best to get you to enjoy yourself, so you give in, beginning to sing along to the lyrics of an old song that brought back a flood of memories that made you smile back at him. Jungkook feels the first burst of success bloom inside him, joining in with your singing, raising up your clasped hands as you begin dancing.
The smile doesn’t leave his face as he stares down at you, the few drinks you’ve had loosening you up and allowing you to push the earlier thoughts away. He feels mesmerized, eyes locked onto you, the flash of colors painting your skin, illuminating you in alternating shades of purple and blue. His heart does that annoying thing where it skips and stutters in his chest, mouth drying up as you drop your head back and sway your hips, slowly loosening the grip in your hands and turning around until your back is dangerously close to his chest.
Jungkook’s hands hover in the air for a moment, panic over taking his brain as he tries to remain calm. He could do this—he has done this before—the two of you would go clubbing before you got with your ex, and dancing definitely played a big part of it. So why was his brain short circuiting?
Sure your ass was brushing up against his crotch with each sway of your hips, but you were dancing, so his mind and his dick could fuck right off. He shakes his head to clear any dirty thoughts as his hands loosely grip your hips, testing the water, and when you smile and look back at him he feels less wary and sways his hips in time with yours.
You can feel his chest brush against your back, breath fanning along your skin from his close proximity, only getting closer when you lift an arm back and hold his shoulder to pull him tighter against you. The heat sticks to your skin, thin shirt dampening with sweat from the warmth of the bodies around you, everyone in their own state of drunkenness as the bass flowed through their chests.
Going out like this had been something you missed, used to frequenting the bars and clubs by your apartment with your friends and Jungkook, something that came to a halt because your ex claimed he hated that kind of scene. Something that was clearly a lie considering he was here now, enjoying himself as him and his new girlfriend danced along.
You didn’t realize when he made his way onto the dance floor, enough distance separating you, but now that you had spotted him you feel like he’s way too close for comfort. In a similar position to you and Jungkook, Hajoon is free to look around while his girlfriend dances on him, eyes locked onto you with a smirk that makes your skin crawl.
Jungkook is too lost in the music to notice where your attention has gone, earlier effects of the alcohol settling into his bloodstream, warming him up in that familiar way he welcomes. When the song changes, flowing into the next bass heavy anthem, you turn around in his grasp, giving him a brief glance before your hands are gripping his cheeks and bringing him down into a messy kiss.
This is definitely something he’s never done with you before.
A muffled sound of confusion is swallowed by you as he quickly falls into the motion, large palms gripping your hips, slowly sliding up your back before lightly tangling into your hair to deepen the kiss. Jungkook can taste the liquor on your tongue, mixing with his own as your tongue slips between his lips. He has no idea what came over you but his racing heart and buried crush don’t let him question it, soft lips smacking with yours, not heard between the thrumming music.
Your fingers feel the warmth of his cheeks, how he blushes into the kiss but you attribute it to the alcohol pumping through him. Harsh breaths fan across your face as he groans, lightly pulling back for a gasp of air but you don’t allow it. “No, don’t pull away. Not yet.”
And who is he to argue with that, blindly letting you bring your lips back together in a messy kiss. Your small pleas for him to continue has all the blood rushing to his cock, the ache felt in his jeans when it starts to harden, pressing into the denim uncomfortably and only getting worse when you gently bite down onto his lip before inching back.
“Is he still looking?” you question, breath jagged as you peer up at Jungkook’s dazed expression.
“What?” he dumbly replies, lips swollen and shiny, eyes still focused on your own as he makes an attempt to reconnect your lips. But then your question dawns on him, like a bucket of ice cold water, it sobers him up instantly. Is he still looking?
This was all for show.
“He’s on the far right.” You motion your head in the direction and observe his face when his eyes move over to check if Hajoon was in fact still there. He does spot him heading out in a hurry though, girlfriend trailing behind him as he exits the club entirely
“No, just saw him leave.” Jungkook clears his throat, fingers slipping out of your hair and settling down over your back just like before. He hopes his solemn expression isn’t amplified by the lights flashing across his face, trying his best to act unaffected, as if he didn’t just pop a boner on the dance floor over a revenge make-out session.
Luckily you don’t spot his fallen expression, a wide smile spreading across your face in victory, happy that you had successfully put him in his place.
“I’m so sorry for kissing you.” You gasp in realization, unknowingly pouring salt in the wound when you act as if kissing him was something you would never do if it wasn’t in an attempt to piss off your ex.
“No, it’s okay,” he waves off and smiles, eyes glancing over to the bar once more. Jungkook needed a drink, maybe five—actually he wouldn’t mind going home and watching The Notebook now, that would surely give him a reason to cry with no questions asked.
He starts to walk back to the bar with you by his side, the sad look you had earlier entirely gone, replaced with a giddy smile and a pep in your step, so he can’t say he's too upset.
“God, you should’ve seen how mad he looked when he saw us dancing together,” you giggle, standing inches from him as he orders another drink. Before he can respond, you’re wrapping your arms around his neck and bringing him in for a hug.
A hug, really?
Still, Jungkook sighs and wraps his own arms around your waist, a defeated smile on his face that he hides as he lets his chin rest over your head. The dip in his head makes the yellow tinted frames fall over his eyes and when he pulls back you snort at the visual, finger gently poking the bridge of them.
“You look good in those.”
His drink gets placed in front of him then, giving him a good excuse to avoid stumbling over his words from your compliment, choosing to take a gulp of the hard liquor, wincing when it burns his throat. “Thank you,” he rasps out, grimacing at the taste and it just makes you giggle.
“I should be thanking you. You need to be my fake boyfriend more often.”
Even more salt poured into his wound, topped with a dash of lemon juice in the form of your playful smile and nudge to his ribs, it stings. His heart ache in his chest, more so when he realizes his stupid boner was still going strong. Thankfully the dark lights prevent you from seeing it, the last thing he needed was further embarrassment.
The yellow frames are placed back over his head as he takes another sip, nodding along to your statement with what he hopes comes across as a genuine smile on his lips once he sets his cup down. “Anytime you want Y/N.”
“I know this night didn’t end with the grand finale of me puking, but do you wanna go home and watch movies? No sappy romance ones, I'm not in the mood for crying anymore.”
He finishes his drink with ease, quickly closing his tab as he agrees. “Yeah, just let me go to the bathroom real quick.”
You might not be in the mood for crying but he definitely was; he also needed to handle the situation in his jeans, and what better night to stoop this low than tonight. His own version of a grand finale coming in the form of jerking off in the dirty bar bathroom while maybe shedding a tear or two.
“Okay! I’ll call an uber,” you announce cheerfully, allowing him to walk away as you settle onto one of the sticky bar stools.
Jungkook’s chest feels heavy as he walks to the bathroom, slipping into the small room and locking the door behind him. His forehead rests against the dirty door, eyes falling shut with a groan. He wishes he had the guts to confess to his crush, needing to push the fear of ruining the friendship away from his mind, wanting to gather possible clues that could indicate that you might feel the same.
One day, but not yet.

Dear Father [Genshin Impact/Diluc x Reader]
Synopsis: Wherever you are wherever you may be, even if you are beyond my reach, I only wish to see you again. -from a letter lost in the wind.
(A story where you and Diluc somehow managed to meet Crepus)
Genre: all fluff
"I know how late I am to father's day but here's my father's day take on Genshin Impact! Just let Diluc be happy for once T_T Mihoyo pls."
============================
Discovering Master Crepus' old belongings was like wandering in a domain surrounded by ancient artifacts. Each piece holding the memory of someone you've never met.
The paintings. Master Crepus loved to paint. Typically birds were the main muse of this portraits since they deeply embodied Mondstadt's values for freedom which shows you how much he cherished this city just like his son did. In almost every hallway you walked through there was a collection of his paintings, some belonged to another artist but the majority was an original work. Diluc didn't have the heart to sell them.
Elzer. He was one of the oldest workers who served under the Ragnvindr name, ever since Master Crepus had appointed him during his earlier days. You were told that he treated everyone, both staff and noble, with equal respect. Almost all the denizens of Mondstadt knew this man for he was not only noble in riches but also in the soul.
"I'm sure he would have loved to meet you in person. Now that I think about it, you and Master Crepus are quite similar. Haha, it seems that Master Diluc was selective in terms of who he wanted for his future bride."
Elzer adds with a light chuckle but the statement only made you more curious. A man who affected the lives of so many others, he must have been a wonderful person.
Diluc. The bloodline Master Crepus left behind after his death, a piece of himself and the heir to the whole wine industry, his son Diluc. Although you could see the resemblance in appearance, both of them were men of prinicples and values, putting Mondstadt first before anything else and you suddenly realized if that was the reason why Diluc was so protective of this city. As if, it were everything he had? You could tell he loved Master Crepus very much, not because he said so, rather the painful expression buried deep within his crimson glare whenever someone brought up the topic. Diluc was skilled in hiding himself, it's something he practiced over the years of working alone, though he lowered his guard as long as you were the only one present.
Even so, he had many conflicts still wringing him internally and you didn't want to push him until the day he felt ready to personally tell you himself.
But it would be nice if he opened up, just a little bit.
There were times when you would worry since Diluc had the tendency to hide his feelings for the sake of not troubling you. He wanted to keep life simple and bright, bringing the best to the table while making sure that you lived safely out of harm's way. You couldn't seem to get him to understand that as lovers, you would be happy to help him, in anything. Unconditionally. It was natural for you to feel the need to force yourself in every once in a while and there was nothing more you wanted to know than the story of the man who raised him.
You would even jest on the idea of what it fel like to meet Master Crepus in person. Were you able to reach his standards by any chance? Would he have liked you just as everyone claimed? Of course, they were only silly indulgent thoughts so you quickly dismissed them in the end. Bringing back the past was impossible no matter how badly you wanted it. You closed your heart on that possibility.
On a lovely evening, while you and Diluc were taking your time off Angel's Share to make a stroll around Mondstadt's quiet streets, a strange merchant called over to you. She displayed various antiques ranging from different sizes to designs, none of them seemed to haven been carved in the same place but distinct cultures throughout Teyvat. The only thing they had in common was that they were all equally beautiful to the eye.
However a particular item of what looks like to be a heart locket snatches your attention and you instantly became mesmerized, allured by it's mysterious charm.
"Ah, the locked heart caught your fancy, my lady? It's said once you open it, you will be set free."
"It's magnificent..." you muttered, staring unabashed at the shining surface.
Diluc who was observing from behind folded his arms and tilts his head, "How much is that?"
Although you intended to simply inspect the choices, your lover immediately offers to pay. They all already gave the impression of a hefty price and you didn't want him to spend his fortune on things that deemed unecessary. Still, this wasn't the first time it happened. Diluc would always insist whenever you protested against him from buying anything, it was just a way of expressing his affections towards you. Mora was never a problem and you were priceless. That's how he sees things. You had to remind yourself to be careful when stumbling upon a bustling area full of salesmen next time.
"Five hundred thousand mora."
He purchased it without hesitation.
On your way home, Diluc noticed that something was amiss. You couldn't tear your gaze from the locket as if it had hypnotized you by the golden smooth surface. He had to ensure you didn't run into anyone by accident, tugging your arm closer so that it gave him an opportunity to lead you where you yourself could not. Surely it must have been the appearance but instead of being drawn by, you were drawn in. Completely.
I wonder...what will happen if I open it?
"(Y/n)?" Diluc narrows his eyebrows together. Did you like it that much? No, he knew you weren't the type to be so etranced by jewelry, this was certainly different. Even the merchant seemed a little suspicious when she approached you and Diluc couldn't ignore the heavy sense of aminosity that was emitted around her aura. He couldn't think within her presence but now that his mind was much clearer, he was able to use his skillful judgements.
"Wait...! Don't open it yet-"
However, he was too late.
The wind picks up at an alarming speed and you both brought up your arms to block the debris that had flown in the way. They swirled in non-stop motion until your worlds were engulfed with not even the sky in sight. Amidst the turmoil Diluc latchest onto you and holds your body close his chest as he was determined to protect against any force that dared to hurt you. Something heavy knocks his head and he winces, tighting his hold even further. Your voice could hardly be heard with all the noise that rung around and eventually you discovered the the world wasn't disappearing. You both were.
The last thought you had was the image of Master Crepus and you didn't know why.
---
"Diluc? Diluc?"
He faintly heard his name through a series of echoes. Diluc fights to regaind concousness, feeling your grip upon his shoulder while trying to urge him awake.
"Diluc are you alright?"
Your worried face was the first thing he sees other than the fog that looms above. Diluc blinks a few times in an attempt to ease his migraine, using one arm to force his body into a seating position as he allowed himself to be supported by you at the same time.
"Does your head hurt?" You ask, palming gently against his forehead to feel the heat. Even if her was usually very warm, there was no unusual rise in tempurature, something must have hit him instead, "Here, maybe this will help."
Bringing out your hand you concentrated on generating the water through your fingertips. Having a hydro vision meant you were capable of healing magic which Diluc appreciated since he often came home late at night with injuries hidden behind his sleeves. But nothing came out and he became even more suspicious of the situation.
"Eh? What's going on?" You blurted out, patting down your clothes and your pockets, "My Vision, it's gone too!"
"Mine as well," Diluc flexes his fingers to test his own element, "It seems that our powers were sealed once we entered this domain."
"A domain that prevents you from using a Vision? That doesn't sound very comforting," you scratched your head, suddenly remembering the cause of your current problem, "The locket...it's all starting to make sense now. Ugh, I should have listened to you earlier, I'm sorry Diluc."
"No (Y/n), you don't have to apologize," he interjects and you returned a curious glance, "I should have stopped you the minute I discovered there was something strange. I was too careless."
"You felt that too? I thought I was the only one," your tone and face mimics one of surprise. The fog continues to dance around, enclosing the two of you to the small area. You lifted your head and looked above in deep contemplation, "When I saw the locket I couldn't tear my eyes off of it, like something was pulling me in. Like...there was a spell casted on it."
"What do you mean?" he asked in an inquisitive manner.
You nod, "I can't put my finger on it bit Ifel that the locket wanted me to..." balling your fist upon your lap, you stared intensely at the floor as if drilling holes into them while digging into the depths of your mind for any specific clues. Initially you thought the locket was so captivating that you were simply charmed by it's craftmanship. But tere was more than that, you began deciphering, there was also a need for fulfillment. A yearning desire, "to know. The locket was calling me to know."
'Once you open it, you will be set free.'
"To know..." you trailed off. How strange. No matter how much you tried to rationalize, you were always brought back to the same square as if the locket knew exactly what you wanted. What you were lacking. Because the one thing you wanted to know most about was the person you've never met, "Someone very important to you."
The fog dispersed.
Diluc instinctively puts an arm in front of you defensively as he scanned his quick and thorough eyes around the area. It didn't take long for him to know exactly where everything was. In fact, the abrupt change isn't what puts him on high alert, but it was how familiar everything looked to the point he evaluates if there was any reason to be skeptical or if he should be breathtaken.
"What a beautiful house," However you didn't recognize it. Diluc knew because he had yet to meet you during the time he lived in this estate, "I wonder who does it belong to?"
"Father's old mansion...how?" Diluc breatlessly mutters, as if seeing the supremecy of Celestia for the first time. When years passed after his father died, he chose to sell off the majority of his belongings, the mansion being on for example. Currently it was in the possession of a well-known business associate that used to be a friend of Crepus. The mansion would likely have looked much different due to the renovations it gone through but Diluc remembers the picture as if this were yesterday. Everything was in tact. The vine yard, the gazebo where they drank tea, the hill that he and Kaeya used to race on when they were kids-
Revelation burns in his pupils as his eyes expanded.
"Welcome home, my son."
Both you and Diluc fall wordless at the sight that appeared like a miracle's blessing. Crepus stands at a distance, the graceful smile complimenting his warm features. He looked exactly how the court artists portrayed him in the Ragnvindr's family picture. Sharp face with gentle eyes and an aura that was as pleasant as what Elzer described.
"So this is why the locket was calling to us," you whispered, "I guess the mora really was worth it after all."
"...Fa...ther...."
You snuck a glance at Diluc. From behind the resemblance was as clear as dawn, like you were staring at a carbon copy of Master Crepus himself. Almost. He was a less hardened version of Diluc during uncommon situations. It made you think just how much you didn't know before his father passed away. What kind of person was this man during his days as a knight? You never had the chance to know.
"Father is that really you?" Diluc couldn't help his voice from trembling, paralyzed in place when he could hardly make sense of what stands in front of him. The person he longed to hear from, the person who left the world too quick, Diluc was afraid to get his hopes up in case his father suddenly disappeared and everything was just an illusion conjured by his mind. He was already used to being betrayed and dealt with disappointment too often. Which is why he learned to trust only himself. But, right now, can he really trust himself?
Feeling your hand gently on his shoulders, Diluc was brought back to reality. You smiled with warm reassurance that bled into your voice, "It's okay Diluc. Go, I'm here for you."
There was the faintest light shining in his eyes as emotions swell in his chest. Ever since you came Diluc never had to feel alone anymore, truly, you were the light that was brought back into his eyes, to his life when he gave up the thought of seeing it again. If he couldn't trust himself then at the very least, he could trust you.
"Thank you," he embraces you wholly like you were everything, and you were, before letting go and taking off to the otherside.
The air hits him in a rush and knocks the ones out of his lungs, "Father!" Diluc yells with tearful eyes. For the first time in a long while he was finally letting his feelings run free, "Father!" A name that felt foreign upon words that is pushes him forward, wanting to claim the truth that was smiling from afar.
"Father!"
Crepus lifted his arms and openly catches Diluc when he crashed into him. Here. He was here. He certainly was.
"Haha its been a while hasn't it my son?" He begins, encasing Diluc in a hug like he did the day he turned eighteen. Crepus was a tall man and his genes seemed to have went through. Back when they were younger, Diluc managed to only reach the blade of his shoulders, just barely. Now they were practically the same height, "Look how much you've grown over the years. There were so many things I planned to say but I don't know where to start."
Seven years. That was how long Crepus spent alone with his thoughts. He saw what happened through that time span, the truth about the Knights and Kaeya's origins. To say that none of that bothered him would be a lie. Especially when his son was the most impacted throughout all the events.
"Father I...I-" Diluc tries to speak but the words dissolved the moment it reached his tongue. He wasn't the type to be very good at expressing emotions. None of it could simply be communicated by sentences. For him, actions spoke louder yet somehow, they still wouldn't be enough. Nothing can comprehend the weight of seven years.
Crepus seemed to have understood and fills in the gap instead, "I have also missed you and Kaeya. More than I can even say. It must have been so hard for you both to endure it all by yourselves. Life hits us when we least expect it but despite that, you still chose to persevere."
Diluc clenches his hold, face buried in his shoulders and mouth quivering as he barely answers, "Yeah."
"You're both my pride and joy no matter what happens, as a father I cannot be more proud," before knowing, everything that was said came out naturally from his spirit. Crepus may have his own set of things to share but he knew what Diluc needed the most, "So please don't stop relying on one another, don't always think that you have to do everything alone. Stength is a virtue. However, its okay to let go and allow new people to come into your life. I don't need to be avenged, as long as you and Kaeya are happy, its all I ask for."
As if the world had been lifted from his shoulders, Diluc allows himself to break just this once. On the outside, he was known to be an unstoppable force, the Mondstadt tycoon, the uncrowned king and a hero who serves at night. But here you saw only a boy who dearly missed his father as he hugs him tightly. Although you couldn't hear their conversation clearly, just watching them from where you stood was enough to make your eyes glisten from pure happiness.
"You finally chose to open your heart, right Diluc?" You quietly note to yourself, "You don't have to carry everything by yourself anymore, you're free."
'Once you open it, you will be set free.'
He was able to dwell in this one in a lifetime experience, all because you unlocked the heart and dispersed the fog inside.
They spent a good amount of minutes bringing the distance back together after being seperated for so many years. You made sure to make minimal movements in the consideration of their time. It was only temporary until Crepus noticed you standing in the distance and he gave you a quick glance. Your whole body tenses in response, suddenly feeling guilty as if you were a third wheel who didn't belong in the moment between two family members.
He's staring at me. Diluc's father is staring at me! Your thoughts panicked along with your thrumming heart. What should I do?!!
"I see you've brought someone along with you," He comments, the playfulness rising in his tone, "She seems to have been waiting for quite a while already. If you don't mind, may you do the honours of introducing her to me?"
Diluc turns to see you stiffened in place with your hands tightly clasped below your stomach and heat pooling from your ear to your cheeks as you dipped your head down. His father was a kind man and he couldn't understand there the discomfort came from, yet found it endearing nonetheless. Diluc walks over to you and extends his hand, silently urging you to come with him. You complied, albeit hesitantly at first.
"It'll be okay my love," he whispered softly, causing you to be taken aback by the nickname he called you by. Diluc often reserves them for special instances and this was one of them, "Whatever the staff told you about my father, they're the truth. Trust in their judgement. Trust in me."
"Diluc..." you say, voice fading. You knew him to be someone who always kept his word and someone who would never lie to you. Taking in a short breath, you nodded, "Alright, I will," and followed his lead.
There was once a time where you indulged in the idea of facing Master Crepus in person. But never did you prepare yourself for the amount of pressure it came with. Now that you were together with his son, there was a high chance that he would also become part of his family too, sooner or later. You weren't just meeting Master Crepus. You were also meeting your future father-in-law.
"Father, this is (Y/n)," Diluc starts the welcoming exchanges. You felt his hand squeeze yours gently. He turns to you so that you caught glimpse of his face, seeing the reverance in his gaze that was hinted among his handsome features, "She's the woman I fell in love with and I would do anything to make her happy. I cherish her more than anything else."
"D-Diluc!" you flushed, your embarassment as red as his own hair. But he wasn't bothered by it in the slightest.
"I only speak the truth."
Master Crepus lets out a content chuckle, drawing both of your attentions back to him, "He can be surprising poetic sometimes but I'm sure that he got it from me. Even my wife reacted the same way," he reminisced shortly before sighing, "In truth I already knew that you were together. Staying in the after life gave me the chances to watch things from an omniscient standpoint, I was sincerely worried how Diluc would handle things when I suddenly left, I hope you don't mind. If you do, I apologize for making you uncomfortable."
"N-Not at all!"
"Haha, you're very kind. Thank you. I'm glad that my son was able to find a woman like you to be his fated partner. As a parent, it brings me great reassurance," Crepus remarked, "I know he can be stubborn and a little too headstrong when it comes to making decisions. It really must be a handful for you to deal with at times but I promise you that he means well. So please continue to watch over him in my stead, take care of my son while I'm gone."
"You can count on me," you beamed, "I'll give it my all."
"You have my gratitude (Y/n)," Crepus replies and turned to Diluc, "And listen to her every once in a while. I may have been the previous owner of our wine industry but even I always make sure to get me sufficient amount of rest. Son you know its bad to get two to three hours of sleep every day."
You blinked, "Two to three hours?"
Diluc clears his throat, "I understand Father. You don't have to say it."
Oh I think he does.
With a satisfied grin, Crepus took both of your hands together in his and gave you his blessings. The man once considered to be an artifact through the vast mansion was going to be part of the memories in your life. All of your expressions held as much happiness as the future can become now that he gave you the closure you both needed.

IF HE FINDS OUT I MIGHT AS WELL BE DEAD / PART 2
From across the room in the home Jack grew up in you and Clay avoided eye contact or interactions by any means. Jack being surrounded by his loved ones was not even taking notice of the very clear tension between the two of you. You knew you wanted to tell Jack the truth about transpired between you and Clay but every time you were about to do it and you had his attention you’d look into those eyes of his and could not bring yourself to see disappointment and pain that would cloud them once he knew the truth. As you enjoyed dinner with Jack and his family you felt the need to truly embrace what would be the last time you’d get to experience this because you planned to go through with doing the right thing. You were not going to be selfish and hold onto Jack knowing very well you’ve crossed an unforgivable line. Your heart shattered every time he caressed your thigh under the table or gave your hand a squeeze. Jack seemed so happy about how soon the wedding would be.
When Jack awoke the next day he assumed you’d be downstairs with his mother when he woke up being alone in the bed. It was not easy but it had to be done. In the middle of the night when you were leaving you peered over at a sleeping Jack , taking in the sight of him for the very last time with tears clouding your vision.
“Morning bro“ Jack acknowledged Clay who was having cereal in the kitchen. “Has y/n been down here ?”
“It’s been me the whole time , I haven’t seen her“ Clay responded , a bit on edge about you coming up.
“Strange , she’s not in the room or bathroom “ Jack started growing concerned , going back up to his childhood bedroom and this time registering that your belongings were also gone and that he had overlooked a note left on the bed.
“To my dearest Jackman , as you are reading this you are not going to understand why it had to end this way , but my only wish is that you know firstly how deeply I do and always will love you and secondly that you did nothing wrong. There were just unfortunately bigger things at play here and it has come to me having to do that right thing and cut you lose from me because I am not the girl you think I am , and you deserve better than me , I truly love you and hope you’ll be able to work through this with the little information you have. It’s best that you know less”.
Jack’s body tensed up reading the note sending him into a fit of rage that caused him to send the nearest object he could get his hands on into the wall.
“What’s going on ?” Maggie and Clay rushed into the bedroom to find an enraged and distressed Jack . The frightful look on Maggie’s face softened once she saw the note on the floor. You brought yourself to tell Maggie the truth and it was her that suggested you leave while Jack was asleep and leave out the information about Clay. She had to protect both her sons in this situation , as disappointed as she was in Clay she wanted to spare Jack from the pain this betrayal would bring to him.
“I know I’m in no position to ask favors but please let me know how he copes with this “ You cried to Maggie the previous night as she lead you out the door.
“Let me worry about Jack’s well being , since you clearly could not be trusted to do that when you had the chance” She shot at you.
Clay unaware that Maggie knew nervously observed from the doorway of Jack’s bedroom. He looked like he was about to confess when Maggie spoke over him.
“Jack , look at me , whatever it is , you’ve got us and we are going to help you get through this okay” She cupped Jack’s face firmly before he collapsed his head onto her shoulder and she embraced him an affirmative and comforting hug.

How long had it been? Since the end of it all?
Since all those carefree nights we used to stay up drink, party & Fuck.
Months? Years?
It felt like all time stood still when He found me.
I was alone, Terrified & hiding in an abandoned liquor store when I heard them, I Snuck to the window and saw the biggest herd of walkers I had ever seen. I made sure all the bottle’s i had scavenged were wrapped up in my clothes to dampen the noise and waited for a break in the herd so I could make a run for it to my bike just across the road. After what felt like hours there it was my chance i put my hand on the door handle but before I was even able to twitch the handle, I felt a hand clamp over my mouth and drag me backwards away from my chance of escape.
“Fuck you think your doin girl, Tryna get yourself eaten!” I stared up at the man before me with his hand still over my mouth. His angry eyes met mine and I stopped fighting gazing up into those piercing blue eyes. That was the last thing I saw before the pistol came down on my temple.
I woke with a bag over my head and my wrists bound, I was in a car and I could hear the engine stopping and the brakes kicking in ‘Shit’ . I thought I had no time to think of a way out of this. Two doors slammed shut and I could hear two men arguing.
“Answer me, Fuck did you hit her for Merle. She’s only a girl she couldn’t av ‘urt us, She looked me in ma eyes. There was no fight just fear”
“Bitch had it comin Daryl, Tryna kill hersel and take us with her”
“Did’n even no we were there, Or are you that shit of a hunter yous unable to sneak up on people naw, Stop being an asshole and get the fuck outta ma way”
The car boot opened and someone lifted me out by putting a hand under my knees and one under my head cradling me, he held me tightly with my head in his chest. I inhaled and could smell his manly scent, It was intoxicating, He held me for a moment more before he set on my feet; next the bag was ripped off my face. Instinctively I winced waiting to see if the light would blind me but all was still dark around and i could see we were in a forest. The man with the mesmerising eyes gripped my arm and started walking me into the woods.
A logical person would feel fear at this point but there was something about those eyes, I just trusted him.
“Got a lil way’s to go, ya ok walkin? Or you need me to carry you rest of the ways?” His southern drawl mixed with those blue eyes made my knees go weak. I stumbled slightly then stood again and kept one foot in front of the other. I nodded to the man that I was ok and kept going.
Fifteen minutes later we arrived at the edge of a camp, A few people rushed forward “Shit what happened to her?” “Has she been bit?” “Why is her head covered in blood?” “Where did you find her?”
Daryl rolled his eyes and replied “Merle, No she aint, Merle again annnd liquor store.” He said the last answer with a smirk.
I scowled at the pair and dropped my mouth open to throw a few choice words their way when I was stopped by Merle grabbing me and spinning me round to face him, He moved some hair out of my face, fingers lingering near my mouth and said.
“Girl looks mighty fine to me, Pretty face not messed up, not one bit! And I do love me a pretty face sweetheart” he winked at me moving his hand from my mouth to my throat he pulled me close to him wrapping his other arm around my back to pull our pelvises close together so I could feel his growing erection against my stomach. “How about it honey” He said winking again
I drew my head back with the intention of smashing his nose, When we were tackled to the floor Merle was pulled away from me and i rolled onto my back and back on to my feet, I looked back at the two brothers and saw Daryl’s hand smashing into his brothers face whilst he was shouting “I’ll mess up your face you asshole”
Daryl was dragged off Merle by two men, Merle got to his feet and laughed “It’s allllll good baby bro, I’ll forget about this, this time. I know how feral you get when you see a pussy you wanna claim.”
Daryl locked eyes with me as Merle said this then spat at the ground at Merle’s Feet He picked up his crossbow off the ground and stormed off towards the woods shouting “Man forget ya, I had enough of your shit for one night” over his shoulder.
That was months ago now, That night the group took me in and took care of me and I took care of them. We moved from the original camp to the CDC then a farm and now we are in a prison in Georgia. The prison has been good to us so far, there was that run in with a crazy guy who called himself the governor and we lost a few of our family. But we persevered and built this place into a home and soon started bringing in new people to help run our home and join our family.
In the time i had been with this group i had noticed there were a lot of frustrated people here, Especially the men, I can’t get through a day without some proposition or another. I also can’t say that I didn't enjoy the attention, It had been awhile since I had felt another's hands on my body and I craved it, I craved it more than air at times and the person I craved it the most from had decided to pretend I didn't exist. But that didn’t stop me from going to bed each night with my wandering hands and relieving my aching pussy with the thoughts of his hands exploring my body and that voice groaning in my ear. Hit the spot every time.
There had been a few men that had caught my attention but after a few conversations and meet ups with each they all started to pretend i didn’t exist the same as he had. I didn’t even get so much as a kiss from any of the fuckers and when i decided to confront them and ask why they refused to tell me and walked away.
It had hit summer here and i had hit my breaking point, I’d had enough of being passed over and wasn’t going to take this shit anymore, I was going to make them all regret not taking me up on the opportunity when it was there for the taking.
I woke early for my shift in the fields the next morning, Still thoroughly determined to set my plan in motion I grabbed my knife and a set of clothes and set to work. I cut most of the legs off my jeans and the sleeves from my Tartan shirt. I pulled the jean shorts on and folded the legs over so they became tighter and pushed my already perky ass up. I then pulled my shirt on forgoing the usual under shirt and tied the two sides closed in a knot above my belly button so my slim waist was on display. I buttoned one button above the knot so that not too much of my bra was showing; Turning it from slutty to sexy. I pulled on my best brown cowboy boots. Combed my hair out. I was very lucky to have thick wavy hair that rarely required me doing anything with it. I just let it dry and brush, I grabbed Maggie’s make up bag and applied a small amount of make up just to accentuate my natural features.Smiling at myself in the mirror this was perfect, Let's see that southern shit ignore me now. Or any of the others for the matter.
I sauntered out of my cell into the main block and walked the long way through the middle of everyone taking extra care to have a bounce in my step to make my boobs bounce nicely and swayed my hips more to make my ass jiggle as I walked. I greeted everyone in the same way i usually would with cheery “Good Morning’s” Instantly i felt eyes roaming my body and not just the male’s which made me grin I was happy either way. A few let out low whistles and I winked in return. This felt great. I want to feel this way every day, my pussy had soaked my panties by the time I had made it out of the block and into the yard I was panting with need.
I took a few minutes to calm my breathing before continuing out towards the field, I glanced at the guard tower to make sure he was here today keeping watch, When i saw his leather vest and his longish wavy hair my breath quickened again, Shit it was going to be hard to get through today without a little relief, It took everything i had not to rush up the guard tower and beg him for it, Instead i continued over to the field, waiting until i was in his vision before looking up smiling and waving. Sure enough there he was binoculars in his hand staring down at me. I grinned again, wiggled my fingers at him and sauntered away from the tower.
Luck was with me today and I was set to work on the potatoes which were planted in a perfect view of the guard house. I made sure to always face the tower when just sitting working so he had the frontal view and when I needed to bend up or down I turned my back to him so he got a great view of my ass. Everything I did that day I made sure to find some way to make it sexier. More than a few men came to bring me water or talk to me that day i gave each of them a big grin, Laughed and put my hand on their arms and send them on their way enough to make them feel there could be a chance, I felt Fucking powerful.
At the end of the day i saw Maggie making her way over to me with a backpack over her shoulder, “Y/N I gots you a gift” she said in a sing song voice “from Merle of all people” she laughed and pulled out two big bottles of Merle’s special moonshine “I guess someone saw your production today sugar” She giggled a bit more handed you a bottle and settled down on the grass next to you.
Daryl
Ever since Merle and me brought Y/N back to the group with us she’s been a literal pain in my pants, I'm surprised my cock was even capable of a hard on at this point as it feels like it hasn't gone down in months. So far i have managed to stay away from her as i wasn’ gonna let no bitch get the better of me and i wasn’ going to let fuckin Merle be right.
My mind wandered back to her again when i started my shift in the guard tower that morning, I considered going into the office to rub one out but decided i'd be on the balcony waiting, I always made sure i got the shifts in this tower when she was being put in the fields, Watching her sweating down there in the heat was good enough to get me off later in the night when i was alone in the office. I lived out of this tower now as I liked it better alone even now with Merle being back in the prison, I didn’ need his shit talking around me at all hours. Not when I had my own entertainment.
There she was right on time to interrupt me from my thoughts, Holy shit what was she fucking wearing. I grabbed my binoculars to get a closer look, When i found her again with them she was almost fucking naked by the looks of it! In tiny shorts and an even smaller top, From this vantage point i had the best view straight in her bra, I kept my eyes on her all day fuck the perimeter it’ll be fine and i’m sure some weak ass will scream and let me know.
I watched her all day as she wiggled her hips and wiped the sweat from her chest, Turns out i wasn’t the only one watching even guys I've fuckin told before to stay away come flocking, What don’t the asshole’s understand about “i’m always fuckin watchin” by her quitting time it wasn’t just my dick that was rock hard and throbbin but also the vein in my temple that tells me i’m about to snap.
Balling my fists up i wait for her to start walking back but Maggie fuckin Greene starts walking towards her, Fuck sake. I send the next watch away and tell them ill radio to come back. I wasn’t allowing no fucker to have this view. I watched as Maggie sat down in the grass with Y/N and pulled out two large bottles. I grabbed the binoculars again. Fuckin Merle! That’s his shine if i ever saw it. Making a mental note to smack that bastard later for this. Now everyone had gone back inside it was deadly silent out here which meant their voices were carrying more than they knew and i could hear every word. I settled back down and watched the girls for a while biding my time.
Y/N
You both look at each other with a glint in your eyes, Pop the tops off your bottles and start downing it. Maggie comes up for air first. Dropping my bottle and swallowing the harsh liquid i Cheer in celebration and yell a little too loud “that Merle may be an asshole but he sure makes some good hooch”
“Sooooo ya had any bites today?” Maggie grins winking at you. “Yeah but not the one i want, He’s so fucking frustrating. I think I've noticed him watching me more today than he has the entire time i’ve known him” I sigh.
“You know he's got a huge thing for you or he wouldn’t be acting like this” Maggie Giggled. “But then who in this friggin place doesn’t especially after today! You even made my breath hitch never mind poor Glenn who had to get a shower!” “Ugh maggie he’s your guy why the hell is he looking at me!” I grimaced. She put her hand on my thigh and winked at me again “He’s got my permission, don't worry it spices things up a little” I didn’t move her hand just enjoyed the feeling of her fingers running up and down the inside of my thigh.
We both downed more of Merle’s hooch giggling and the conversation turned to a debate on the size of Daryl's dick. I lick my lips promising to tell her if I ever get my hands on it. The conversation is turning more and more heated as her hand is getting closer and closer to my throbbing core. She’s getting that close now I’m sure she can probably feel the heat coming from it. As we are getting close to the bottom of our bottles and really starting to feel the effect Maggie still with one hand on my thigh leans close to my face and whispers “He’s stayed up there watching past his shift. Let's give him something to see hmm?” As she’s finishing the end of her sentence I bridge the gap between us and meet her lips with mine. I bring my hand up to her hair and pull her closer into me, deepening the kiss Moaning into her lips.
Daryl
When the girls first started chatting i wanted to find out who they could be talkin about and punch the prick out till i heard my name and if my ears weren't already prickling up they definitely were now, He heard Y/N promise Maggie that if she sees ma dick she will tell her how big. He bites his lip and decides he’ll help her keep that promise.
He picks his binoculars back up and notices Maggie's hand running up and down Y/N’s thigh. If there were two people he thought he wouldn’t have to warn away, it would have been Glenn and Maggie and they pick a night that he’s mad as hell to change his mind about that?
He brings one hand to his aching dick giving it a few tugs through his pants to relieve some of the pressure and brings his eyes back to them just as he sees the girls lean into each other, Shit! Shit! He doesn’t know whether to run down there and interrupt finally or let them continue. Y/N pushes Maggie to lay her fully down and straddles her hips, I grabbed my radio and called for the replacement as i couldn’t take much more.
While i waited for the lazy shit to get here i watched Y/N & Maggie get even more heated and their hands exploring each other the moaning reaching me in the tower, I look to my right and see Glenn watching from behind one of the buildings hands and lower half suspiciously hidden.
Ah hell no fuck this tower! Daryl reaches over the side and grabs the pipe work swings himself over and uses it to get down quickly. As he hits the bottom his replacement is strolling over he grabs him by the scruff of his shirt blocking his view into the field. “Put ya lazy ass in that office and don’t fuckin leave till i come back and tell ya, ya can leave. Ya fuckin hear me?” I growl at him. The kid runs into the office in the tower. I spin around pretending not to see Glenn hiding there, I ran across the field towards the girls and as i reached them i let my shadow fall over them.
Y/N
From where i am lay on top of Maggie i watch as Daryl slides down the side of the watch tower and charges over to us, I smile against Maggie's lips when he gets closer i moan feeling her hand snake its way into my bra, Were both panting loudly and moaning when his shadow falls over us.
He clears his throat next thinking we hadn’t noticed him there. Maggie moves her mouth to my neck and I let out another moan but this time I raise my eyes to his and lick my bottom lip not breaking eye contact.
“Come with me...NAW” Daryl growls and grabs my arms and pulls me off and up. Maggie looks at him and pouts “oh boo Daryl always gotta ruin our fun” I wave to Maggie giggling as he starts to drag me across the field.
“What the fuck Daryl” I try to push him off my arm but his hands are unyielding. “Shut the fuck up ill deal with ya in a minute” He growls and pushes me up against the wall of a building stares longingly into my eyes then darts his arm out and smashes someone’s head into the wall. “Didn’t think id have to fuckin warn ya Glenn, Thought it was pretty fuckin obvious. Don't let me catch ya ass again” he grabs my arm again and drags me across the court yard until we reach a secluded spot, He slams my back up another wall and presses his body up against mine keeping me pinned between him and the wall.
“What you think you’ve been doing girl, Flaunting your shit all day for any man to beat his meat too?”
I squirm under his gaze, Shit i think i actually pissed him off, Definitely not the emotion i was going for!
“You think i’m gonna sit by and let tha happen?”
I find my voice, “What do you mean, You won’t let something happen. You’re not the boss of me!” you say glaring back at him, If he wants to play the pissed off game he won’t be playin it alone.
“Ya know exactly what i mean! I’ll show you who the fuckin boss Y/N” He said, pressing his hips harder into mine. I try to suppress my moan. His eye’s darken even more hearing me moan for him now.
“Who do you think told those pricks to back the fuck away from you, They wouldn’t of just left you alone on their own naw, they needed some rough persuasion Y/N”
I glare at him again and he pushes his hips back into mine again.”Ya gonna learn yet? Every time you glare at me, ill smash my dick into that dirty clit o urs” He explains with a wink.
Not knowing how to respond to that You ask “You’re the reason no man looks at me anymore? What fucking business is it of yours”
“Hell fuckin yeah i am” He says with a smirk “No one will dare ya touch you if I've claimed ya, So i did” “Naw I’ve claimed you, I’ve made it very clear if anyone touches you they’ll lose a fuckin arm” He growled
“For fuck sake Daryl! You can’t just put claims on a girl you don’t even give a fuck about” I said with a snarl.
“I give a fuck, Just didn’ want ya to know i gave a fuck, I enjoyed watchin ya squirm... but ya forced ma hand and naw... Well naw i aint gonna be gentle bout it”
You close your eyes tight, If he hadn’t of “claimed” me i would be in heaven now but learning that he’s behind your dry well makes you so mad.
“This what you were trying to get huh?” “I would of thought twice before you pulled this shit, I aint no gentle man” she breathed into her ear. His gravelly voice driving me crazy.
I look him in the eyes and shove him hard, running back to the cell block. I took a breather when i got through the door and realised he hadn’t followed me. As i was walking past the showers a hand darted out and pulled me inside.
“Woah what the fuck” I gasped as I felt a hand move over my ass and pull me against him, Jees i need to wear this outfit more often.
I was pulled into the light and saw it was Zach who had pulled me in with him, Zach was one of the ones who daryl must of scared away.
“Hey baby, Missed me?” he breathed at me. “How could i miss you zach i never got a chance to know you, You let that asshole scare you away” I said hurt
“Gimmie another chance Y/N, ill show you a good time, This could be our secret. We could have some real fun and piss that hillbilly asshole off” He squeezes me tighter to him.
“Gerrof Zach if your too pussy to pursue someone when warned of by a man I’ve only ever spoken to once then you’re not a guy i want any fucking part of”
“Awww c’mon you don’t mean that” he grips the back of my head and pushes his lips to mine i tried to fight him off be but he had too tight of a grip.
A low growl came from the doorway “I believe she said to get ya bitch ass hands off her” Zach jumped back like someone had shocked him when he heard the voice. Daryl walked forward and put his arm round my shoulder “an i believe i told ya to not even look at her again bitch” His voice gets louder “Tell me asshole what did i say i was gonna do to ya?”
H waited a moment staring at Zack “Hmm to fuckin scared to answer?” he walks forward and punches him rapidly in the face Zack goes sprawling across the shower floor. Daryl stands over him and threatens “it’ll be worse next time if you don listen to me and come near ma girl again”
Daryl turns and heads back to you and wraps his arm around your shoulders again “Bet Ya glad i claimed you now” I nod slightly. I squirm out of his arms and run back to my cell, my hooch high still buzzing in my mind. Thank god without this how could i be this brave? I smile when I get to my cell wondering how long it will take him to catch me.
I barely had time to catch my breath before i felt him, He made no noise whatsoever like a hunter closing in on his prey.Whenever he was near me it felt like my entire body was electrified and tuned only to him.
I spun around and my breath hitched in my throat at the sight of that venomous glare, He just stood and glared with his eye’s roaming every inch of you, You could feel every hair on your body standing to attention for him.
In the blink of an eye he was back in front of you again pinning you back against the wall with his hand tangled in your hair, pulling your head to the side exposing your neck.
He looks over your body panting his eyes still liquid stone, Ever glaring. I could feel the heat coming off him in waves as he studied me. His pushed his mouth next to my ear, “When i’m finished with ya, ya legs will be useless and everyone in this damn place gon know my name. An i promise you aint gon forget who’s ya are” He paused for a second staring into my eyes, “Naw take this shit off before i rip it off ya” He said pulling roughly at my shirt.
With Shaking hands i reach up and untie my shirt and push it off my shoulders, Watching his eyes grow darker as he watched. My shirt fell to the floor he grabbed the centre of my bra “All of it” He growled. I undid my bra and threw that into the corner. He looked down at my shorts seeming impatient gripped both sides and ripped them down. He came back up to me gripped my arms and pushed me further up the wall off the floor and quickly puts his legs in between mine and rests my body on them.
He reaches forcing my head to the side again and brings his mouth down to my neck kissing and biting furiously his other hand gripping my breast roughly, Earning a loud moan from me. I reached for his shirt desperate to run my hands on him, Before my hands met their mark he had gripped my wrists pinning them above my head.
“Ya don’t move, Touch or make a fuckin sound unless i say so, Ya hear?” I nodded eyes growing wide at his words. He let my feet touch the ground again and tore my underwear off, He bunched them up in his hand “Mmm look how wet these pantie’s are for me girl” “Open your mouth, Naw” I obediently complied letting him stuff them into my mouth, Dying to moan under his stare.
He stepped back and let his vest fall over his shoulders and hit the floor, He then took his shirt off and used it to bind my hands together. He stood back admiring his handiwork, I Squirmed under his lustful gaze feeling myself getting wetter by the second. I watched him slowly bring his hands to his belt unfastening it then his button and zip, His pants hit the ground and he kicked them to the side. My breath went wild when I saw him in all his glory i love a man who doesn’t wear any underwear.
He lunged forward again pulling my legs over his and wrapping leg around his hips pressing his huge dick at my entrance. It was so long and thick: my mouth started salivating instantly imagining wrapping my mouth around it.
He pulled my underwear from my mouth and growled into my ear “Scream my fucking name” as he plunged his entire length into me, The breath was forced from my lungs “shitt, Daryl!”
“Did i fuckin stutter, I said scream it” he growled again biting my neck pulling out almost of the way and plunging deep into me again. Damn did i scream this time my eyes rolling back into my head enjoying the sensation.
“Tha’s better now ride it bitch”
I felt raw already from his huge length and girth filling me like i’d never been filled before. Pulling my arms around his neck to steady myself i used him to pull myself back up and then down slowly trying to adjust to his size.
His mouth met mine in a rough eager kiss, capturing my tongue with his. He pulled his mouth back to my neck and whispered “Ya don know how long i’ve been waiting for this, Tell me how much you love my dick Y/N”
“Ahh” i cried out “so much baby so much” My eyes rolling into the back of my head still rolling my hips onto him. “Naw, Tell me who you belong to” “You” I moaned “You i belong to you daryl” I panted out.
“Louder! I want everyone in the fuckin place to know your mine”
“Oh god, Daryl, I’m yours! Only yours” I screamed
“Better” He smirked. He moved my arms from around his neck and released my hand’s from his shirt. He walked backwards with me still perched on him, His legs hit the end of the bed and he sunk down taking me with him.
“Now show me how much you love this dick”
I positioned myself better over him and sunk down to the hilt slowly savouring every glorious inch of him. My eyes shot open again moaning when my clit hit his pubic bone and i started grinding harder and faster now.
I could feel his hand’s everywhere, God i can’t believe how long i had been longing for this moment, I cried out again. He leant up on his elbows and pulled one of my nipples into his mouth nibbling, and running his nails down the inside of my thighs. The combination was pure ecstasy. I could already feel the pressure in my mound building painfully begging to be released.
He removed his mouth from me earning a sad moan from me desperate to feel his mouth on me, He looked back at my eye’s amusement on his face. He ran both hands up to my chest again gripping almost painfully. “And these, Who do they belong to Y/N?” “You baby, All yours” i breathed shakily. I was so close when he growled again “Say my fuckin name” My wall’s started constricting against him. “Ahh god, Daryll ....fuck Daryl” His eyes shone at my words. He was even more spurned on now. He flipped us over, throwing me into the bed and pulled my hips into the air ramming harder and deeper than before.
“Cum for me baby” He whispered in his incredible gravelly voice.
Those four words was all I needed to push me over the edge. Crying his name out again i felt the damn of pressure welled up in me from the moment I saw him burst open. I rode out my high as hard as i could against him, I collapsed to the bed and felt him slow down, My brain fuzzy from my incredible high. I tried pushing myself up on my elbows and my eyes caught another’s at the door.
I looked down and back up rubbing my eyes, “Shit Darryl stop!” I reached for the sheets to pull them over me. There were at least 6 men gazing in, Daryl continued unperturbed. You tried putting your hand behind you trying to push at his stomach to get his attention. He captured your arm and it around your back and pulled you up against him.
“You think I didn't know, Now tell me again who you belong to” “Daryl please!” I said trying to cover my chest. He grabbed the sheet and flung it away.
Rick spoke up from the back Your cheeks flushed horrified they had all seen you in the throws. “I think Daryl told you to do something, He doesn’t like to be kept waiting” He said with a gleam in his eyes. You gazed around the men seeing Rick, Zack, Merle, Glenn & i wasn’t sure who else grinning enjoying the show. I was suddenly unashamed as i felt the pressure build back up dangerously high.
Daryl seeing my eyes wander over the group wrapped my hair around his wrist and pushed my head back into the bed, Ramming harder and faster than i’d ever felt before making me scream again. “Say it” he shouted at me “Ahh shit im daryl’s, You claimed me baby” He replied “And no one else is going to make you feel this good again are they?”
“God no, Only you, Ahh so good!”
“Ya heard her '' He said addressing the men “She’s mine. Naw you can all fuck off back to your pits and keep your fucken hand’s to your selves asshole’s” You heard Merle hoot “wooowee you get it baby brother” You stomach turned grateful daryl had told them to leave, before his body pushed another orgasm out of you.
They all turned and left as Daryl biting my ear lobe moaned into me “Now cum again for me baby” He suddenly dove his hand under me and onto my clit.
I instantly caved again screaming into the bed.
Feeling my second orgasm pushed him to the brink again and he jackhammered into me. Hard. Chasing his high. I pushed back furiously desperate to feel him. I moaned “Cum in me Daryl please i need to feel you”
I felt him explode moaning my name and grinding deep into me riding it fully out”
He collapsed on top of me breathless. We lay like that for a few minutes when I felt him going hard in me again. He pulled out and lay back on the bed pulling me into his chest his heart still pounding in his chest.
“God girl, If i’d of known you were that good a fuck, I’d of taken you that first fucking night” A relaxed grin on his face.
He turned and took my face in his hands kissing me softly and murmured into my lips “I hope you don’t think i'm done with you yet” He winked “I aint had a girl like you in a loooong time i aint even close to done with ya”
He rolled back onto me pulling my lip with his teeth. “Ready?” I nodded desperate to feel him again.
God knows how many hours & Orgasms later he fell off me pulling me close into his chest again. I passed out instantly, Thoroughly exhausted. He chuckled into my hair and followed me into blissful sleep.
When we woke the next morning his arms still tight around me, Smiling in his sleep.
I looked over happy wishing i could stay here forever but there was work to be done.
I slowly picked his arm up and tried to wiggle out from under it, Before i'd gotten half way those glorious muscles had flexed and pulled me straight back into him. “Morning beautiful. Hope you don’t think your going anywhere. We’ve got so much time to make up for.” He nuzzled his face into yours sweetly. You could feel him growing hard against your hip. “Don’t worry i’m feeling responsible. I’ll make it quick!”
He fucked me again for another hour until we were both sweaty, shaky wrecks.
I groaned and rolled to the edge of the bed and sat up trying to stand up and instantly felt my legs buckle beneath me. He was up and caught me before i came crashing down. He laughed. “Don’t say i didn’t warn you” You laughed with him. “God, I love that sound” He said, staring into my eyes and planting a sweet kiss onto my lips. He stood and started grabbing his clothes from around the room and dressing.
“Take your time getting up, I’m back in the guard tower again today, Don’t forget what i taught you last night” He said with a wink and ducked down to kiss me. He moved to the doorway and moved the curtain turning back at me. “Oh and babe I wanna see that outfit again today, Now i know it’s all for me” He winked again and left.
I fell back on the bed with a huge grin on my face. Holy shit I can't wait for tonight!

**********************************************************************
She jerked backwards, eyes widening at the sight of the thick, crimson liquid running down her arm. A shudder ran through her, throat seizing up as she tried to suck in air, her other hand coming up to rub at her arm. Suddenly it was on both hands and she stared at them in horror.
A voice called from below her, pained, but firm. “Superwoman…it’s okay. Don’t—ugh—don’t panic. It’s alright.” The voice was soothing at first, but when she looked down to find its owner, the body next to him took up all she saw, a vicious, gaping hole where his heart used to be.
She peddled backwards, stumbling to the floor, apologies falling from her lips. “I’m sor—I’m so sorry. It was just—he was hurting you and I—I didn’t mean to do this, I swear—”
The boy reached out to her but grunted in pain, hand dropping to hold his side. “(Y/N)—”
Her eyes met his once more, and he could see the tears swimming in her gaze as she whispered, “I’m sorry.” She shot from the ground, disappearing in the sky in a blur of red and blue.
He reached for her calling out, “(Y/N)!” He lost sight of her as quickly as she left, and the other two ran up to him.
“Tim!” The taller boy stopped, looking down at the corpse next to him, jaw dropping in shock. “…Oh my god. Wh—what happened?” He looked at the other. “Tim?”
He shook his head, eyes meeting the shorter one. “Bart, I need you to get to Central and find Wally and Dick and tell them to get to the cave.” Bart nodded and spun, taking off in a flash of yellow lightning.
The other boy knelt, picking him up off the ground. “Tim, what happened?”
He groaned, hand moving to hold his side once more. “(Y/N) killed him on accident.” Tim looked at him. “Conner, I can get back to the tower on my own, but I need someone to get to Jason.” He sucked in a breath, reaching up and wiping the blood from his nose though it still bled despite him. “Kori and Roy will probably be with him, but right now, we need everyone who can search.”
Conner nodded, steadying Tim on his feet before rising from the ground; he looked down at him. “Do you know where she went?”
Tim shook his head, grimace crossing his lips as he muttered, “I don’t think we’re gonna find her for a long time.” He glanced up at Conner. “Go. Now.” The boy nodded, flying off, and Tim took a few steps forward before stumbling into a wall. He heaved a sigh, picking up his transmitter from his belt.
He pushed a button, and a few seconds later, a voice came over the line. What’s going on?
Tim frowned and asked, “What’s your E.T.A. to earth?”
Eighteen hours. What happened?
Tim glanced back at the body, the puddle of blood seeming to consume it. “It was (Y/N). She… she killed someone.”
The voice on the line was silent, then it said, Superman is on his way. Call me when he gets there.
The line went dead, and Tim sighed, sliding down the wall. He lent his head back, eyes staring up at the sky, waiting for (Y/N)’s father.
***Later In The Cave***
The group stood in silence, faces molded in a mixture of shock and pain. Tim yelped as Alfred pushed on his side. “Ow shi—Alfred!”
The man hummed, wrapping the cloth around his side. “Apologies, Master Tim.” He tucked an ice-pack between the layers. “With the broken ribs you’ve got, it would be best to keep ice close. I also advise against any harsh movements.”
Tim nodded, gaze turning to the man beside his oldest brother. “Clark.”
The man looked up from the ground, voice stricken as he lamented, “I can’t hear her. She’s…completely silent…” his eyes held a deep and sorrowed pain. “I can’t hear my baby girl.”
The others listened, then Jason stepped forward, expression grim and solemn. “Tim, what exactly happened in San Francisco today?”
The boy looked over at him before dropping his gaze to the ground, sighing, “What didn’t happen out there, Jason?”
Tim shook his head, clearing his throat. “It was a routine mission, patrol the area before getting back to the tower, but Bart called and said that he saw what looked to be a meta-human going on a rampage. We all met up and started fighting, and while it took some time, we managed to get him to an abandoned warehouse complex. Turns out, he not only had super strength, but he could also make copies of himself, and when I figured out that the original was susceptible to damage while he had copies, I sent Conner, Bart, and (Y/N) to fight the copies while I found him.”
He paused, picking at his nails. “What I didn’t expect was for him to throw me into a forklift and break three of my ribs. I tried to get up, but before I could move, his hands were around my throat, and he was lifting me up off the ground.” He absentmindedly reached up, fingers brushing the purple hand-prints around his pale neck. “Everything was happening so fast, and I couldn’t get my bearings in time. My vision started to get dark, and I could hear (Y/N) shouting from behind, and the next thing I knew, I was being dropped again. When I could see and breath clearly again, I looked up, and I saw (Y/N)…I saw her…”
A hand rested on his shoulder, and he glanced up, seeing Conner nodding firmly at him. He let out a breath and said, “And I saw (Y/N) standing there, and the meta-human lying in a pool of his own blood and he had…he had a hole through his chest.”
Quiet gasps were heard around the cave, and Tim looked up at Clark. “It was just an accident Clark, she didn’t mean to do it. She was trying to save me.” The man didn’t look at him, eyes glued to the floor as he swallowed thickly, obviously thinking about what he was just told.
Jason stepped up to Tim. “Do you know where she went?”
Tim shook his head. “No, she took off before I could stop her.”
“So, you’re pretty much saying that she could be anywhere.” Everyone turned their head at the sound of Dick’s voice.
Tim nodded. “That’s why I called everyone here. We need help trying to find her.”
Dick turned to Wally. “You and Bart comb Central.” The two took off, and Dick turned to Kori. “You should take Roy and go check around hideouts the Outlaws frequent.” Kori and Roy made their way to the stairs. “Tim, you sit out and monitor everything. Conner, you can help me and Jason check Gotham. Clark…”
Dick walked over and resting a hand on his arm. “You should go home and tell Lois about what’s happened, then check Metropolis.” Clark nodded, but made no move to go, and Dick squeezed his arm gently. “Clark.” He looked at Dick. “We will find her, I promise.”
Clark nodded again, this time finding his feet; he paused as he reached them and turned to Jason. “Jason?” He turned, waiting for Clark to continue. “I don’t really have any doubt that you’ll be the one to find her tonight…” His voice soft as he asked, “But when you do, will you tell her that I’m not angry at her?” Jason nodded, and they watched Clark leave.
Dick faced them, tone quiet. “Conner, you and I can take North and East Gotham, Jason, you should take South and West.”
They nodded at his words, each moving to the exit. Tim’s voice reached them before they could leave. “Jason! Can you wait for a minute?”
Jason nodded at the others, watching them leave before moving back to Tim. “What’s up?”
Tim hung his head and whispered, “It’s my fault, Jason. I should’ve been more vigilant when I was fighting. If I had gotten up sooner, none of this would’ve happened. I’m sorry—”
A hand rested on his shoulder and he looked up; Jason stared at him seriously. “Tim, it wasn’t your fault. And it wasn’t (Y/N)’s either.” He squeezed Tim’s shoulder gently. “Okay?” Tim nodded and Jason let go, though he saw the tears in Tim’s eyes.
***
Jason crouched atop the ledge staring down at the city, a frown crossing his lips. He didn’t bother to look up at the sound of someone’s boots hitting the rooftop, or when they stopped beside him. “Have you found her?”
He snorted, eyes following a car on the busy road. “Do you honestly think I’d be up here if I had?” He glanced up, seeing Dick slightly grinning at him.
Dick lowered himself on the ledge until he sat next to Jason, legs hanging freely off the edge. The two of them simply stared out at the streets, observing the cars carrying their passengers’ home.
After a few moments, Dick asked, “Where do you think she is?”
He watched Jason shrug and murmur, “I have no idea…I’ve searched everywhere that has any kind of meaning to us and I still can’t find her.” He looked at Dick, eyes filled with trepidation. “I’m worried about her, Dick…she’s all alone out there, thinking about what’s happened, and it’s eating me up.” He shook his head, letting out a sigh. “I shouldn’t have left San Francisco earlier. I should’ve stayed.”
Dick’s eyebrows shot up at his words. “Wait, you were in San Fran earlier today?”
Jason nodded. “Spent the night with her but left in the morning.” He thumped the heel of his armored boot against the wall. “I could’ve stopped that meta and she wouldn’t have done anything.”
“You’re really torn up about her killing someone, Jason.”
Jason turned to Dick, shouting. “Of course I am!” He placed a hand against his chest. “I kill bad people because they’re evil and they deserve it. I wouldn’t want (Y/N) or any of the people I care about to follow the path that I do.” He paused, voice lowering. “(Y/N) is…a good person. She’s kind and caring and she loves everyone with everything she has. She protects those that are innocent and protects those she loves even more fiercely.”
He sighed heavily, his voice lowering to a whisper. “I’d never want her to have to think about the people she kills like I do.”
“You’re telling me you actually think about the people you kill?”
Jason let out a mirthless laugh, his gaze returning to the city. “Contrary to popular belief and what you see when you look at me, I am not a heartless killer, Dick. I know the consequences of my actions, and believe me, I think about them every moment I’m alive.” He stood and looked down at his brother. “I’m going to hit my apartment and take a nap before getting back out there.”
Dick nodded, observing him as he started climbing down the ledge; he called out to Jason. “She’s really changed you in the year you’ve been together.”
Jason snorted, “Don’t tell anyone, I’ve got a reputation to keep.” He paused, hand gripping the ledge as he replied, “ But yeah she has… and only in the best ways, Dickhead.”
“Hey!”
***
The apartment was quiet, just as he’d left it the day before, and he shucked his helmet and jacket off, placing them on the table. He bent over, undoing the laces from his boots, kicking them off before reaching up and pulling his domino mask off, raising a hand to rub the fatigue from his eyes. It was a futile attempt to delay the inevitable, and as he made his way to his room, he mentally took note of how long he needed to sleep before getting back in the field to look for her.
As he walked through the hallway, a quick intake of air sounded through the apartment, and Jason reached to his hip, pulling a pistol. He stepped carefully through the hall, checking the rooms before he came up to his bedroom. Sucking in a quiet breath, he stepped into the room, gun following his gaze as it landed on a huddled mass beside the window.
He walked silently over to it, and upon closer inspection, his eyes widened, voice laced with disbelief as he questioned, “(Y/N)?”
She raised her head, eyes red rimmed and bloodshot. “Jason?” she whispered, unsure of herself.
He lowered the gun, placing it on the nightstand before moving to her, hands grasping her upper arms. “(Y/N), we’ve been looking everywhere for you.” He shook his head. “Why didn’t you call one of us and tell us where you were?” She didn’t respond to him, simply looking down. Jason let go of one of her arms, gently cupping her cheek. “Doll?”
He felt something wet drip onto his hand, and finally, she sat up straight and stared at him. The blanket she’d been covered with fell away, and his gaze dropped to her arms. His eyes widened at the sight of the faint red smeared across her arm. “(Y/N),” He breathed.
“I kept scrubbing and scrubbing, but no matter how hard or how much I did, it wouldn’t come off.” The tears were rolling down her cheeks now, and she lowered her head. “I didn’t mean to do it Jason. I just…”
Jason reached for her, pulling her into his arms and hoisting her up. He reclined against the headboard, arms wound tightly around her. “Shh…it’s alright…”
“I killed him, Jason.” (Y/N) pulled back enough to look him in the eyes. “I kept yelling for him to let Tim go, but he wouldn’t. I could hear Tim’s heartbeat fading and I just reacted.” She gazed at her arm. “I put my arm through his chest, Jason!” (Y/N) stared at her arm as if it didn’t belong to her body, an alienated limb, then she felt herself being lifted again. “Jason what—”
He said nothing, maneuvering her into the bathroom where he sat her on the sink. She watched as he pulled a rag from the cabinet and reached below the sink for a bottle. He poured the solution into the rag, then gently took her arm, wiping it. His gaze was unreadable, but it was anything but hard; in fact, it was soft, and before she knew it, the remaining blood had been wiped away.
Jason threw the towel into the hamper and turned back to her, cradling her face in his hands. “It’s all gone, (Y/N)…it’s not there anymore.” Her eyes lowered to her arm before they rose back to his, and he pressed his forehead against hers. “You don’t have to think about this anymore, doll.”
“I killed him though, Jason.”
She felt him shake his head and he asked, “What would’ve happened if you hadn’t?” She went silent, and Jason asked again, “(Y/N), what would’ve happened to Tim if you hadn’t protected him?”
Clearing her throat, she whispered, “He would’ve died.”
“No, he would’ve been murdered.” Jason looked in her eyes. “(Y/N),you saved Tim’s life.”
“At the expense of another’s.”
Jason let out a sigh and nodded. “Sometimes that’s the only way…but (Y/N)?” She looked at him and he insisted clearly, “What you did today…does not make you a killer, and it doesn’t make you a murderer…do you understand that?”
(Y/N) blinked at him before looking away and muttering, “…You should call everyone and tell them where I am.”
Jason reached down and picked her up from the sink, flicking off the light and moving to the bed. He lowered her down before crawling under the covers beside her, pulling her to him and raising the covers to their chins.
“I’ll call later.” He pressed his lips to her forehead. “Right now, the only thing that matters is you.” (Y/N) bit her lip to keep from crying, and a moment later, Jason quipped, “Remember that time that you threw me out of a third story window?”
(Y/N) let out a watery laugh, burying her face in his chest. “You’re never gonna let that go, are you, Jason?”
She glanced up at him, and he leaned down, pecking her nose. “If I keep getting a reaction out of it, probably not.”
(Y/N) searched his eyes for a moment then whispered, “I love you, Jason.”
He nodded, pressing his lips to hers. “I love you too, (Y/N).” He curled his arms around her, caging her to his chest. “Get some sleep…I’ll be here when you wake up.”
She did as he said, tucking her head under his chin. “Promise?”
“Cross my heart, doll.”
