Part 13 Loving Fathers
"The Acting was a Lie" by SerenitySolitude; read left to right
Tumblr media
Uploading a day early because I have rl stuff happening tomorrow.
I realized just as I drew this that I have no idea what Japanese families do together for fun... All my knowledge with anime and manga got temporarily forgotten and what's left is family drama... ahem
Uuuh, while drawing each page is challenging, I'm coming up with nothing for the next one! Help, Kaeya isn't cooperating with meeee >A< I'll manage somehow though... haha.
Hope you guys are doing well. Take care!

I don't know what's funnier
The people of Mondstadt actually don't know who the Darknight Hero is despite Diluc's horrible disguise, except for Kaeya who is losing his mind because how!? But also thinking that yeah, that checks out why they all just readily accepted him despite him being an obvious plant.
Or
The people of Mondstadt actually know that Diluc is the Darknight Hero, but they've all agreed to just let their uncrowned king keep up his silly little vigilante fantasy and run around in his silly little disguise, because that's just good ol' sunshine child Diluc for you. None of them mention it out of respect.

Hey guys!
This is the first page of my comics about Kaeya’s and Diluck’s childhood. I thought it was a good and interesting idea to create something about them cause Mihoyo don’t give us enough information about this sweet boys.
Please let me know if u like it, maybe someone wants to dream about their story with me ✨❤️

Tumblr media
"Hey! How'd your mission go? I heard you had to do it with Diluc" Kaeya said while putting an arm around your shoulder " Yes.. he was a bit rude. Maybe he just doesn't like me, I've heard he wasn't fond of new people.. but we've known eachother even as children." You say with a chuckle trying not to sound offensive towards Kaeya.
"Huh, Rude you say? I mean he's occasionally harsh here and there but rude? Care to give an example?" He said removing his arm around your neck while tilting his head and crossing his arms "Well, for starters.. he started saying quite rude things to me earlier such as; You're gross, You're insufferable or even swearing at me sometimes. I feel like I already have small to no chances of even being friends with him ever again, he's changed ever since I came back from Liyue. "
Kaeya let out a chuckle "Oh, Diluc. He just isn't good with these things but... Trust me he still likes you." He continued as he pats your shoulder then walks away "I'm pretty sure the last time he talked about you was him saying he wanted to be with you everyday, I don't think he hates you one bit .. you're both so dense." He whispered— barely audible, you couldn't hear him properly yet you managed to make out the words " hates and dense "
"You're so bad at making a move aren't you, Diluc." Kaeya asks with a sarcastic tone, Diluc turns his head towards his brother "...What do you mean?" He asks with a confused face even though he seems to know what Kaeya meant "Hm really? Your 'insufferable' knight? No?"
His face flushes, almost as if his face replicated his hair but his eyes were also filled with panic " Ah.. so what— They ARE insufferable—! I mean they almost got hurt and they still went for the kill how stupid! I.." he didn't finish his sentence and sighed heavily
"Already having fights? I thought we agreed in 'no fighting' when you became a knight." Crepus' voice scared the two boys who quickly faced their father. "Oh if it was a fight then I would've told you father—" Diluc starts " —But he's inlove" Kaeya cuts Diluc off with an energetic tone
With a quite shocked face, Crepus chuckles to himself "..Then you really shouldn't be saying those things if you're inlove with them. You might push them away Diluc." He sighs " No— I don't like them! Father..." Diluc retorts with his face heating up ever more slightly
"Young master Diluc? Your friend is here! They're looking for you. It seems quite important." Adelinde interrupts their conversation while Diluc nodded and excused himself
"Ah.." if it wasn't the person he was all flustered over, the person who he sees in the midst of the crowd— despite the commotion; your voice is the only thing he hears. " I brought you some of my cooking, I wanted to apologize for troubling you earlier in our mission. I know it was a foolish move, thank you for saving me, Diluc." You say with a gentle smile which he seemed to despise— but in his eyes you were more than beautiful, his brows furrowed even more trying to conceal his redness and embarrassment.
"..is something wrong? If you don't want it maybe Kaeya and Master Crepus would enjoy it? Apologies I wasn't really sure if this is still your favorite food, I remember you saying it was your favorite food a long time ago—" he takes the meal from your hands and opens his mouth to talk but no words escaped his mouth, he could barely utter a word Infront of you when your eyes shone perfectly with the sunset. With no further warning he nodded slightly and shut the door in your face.
He leaned on the door, the food against his chest with his face redder than his hair and his heart beating out of his chest. Adelinde was about to tell him how rude it was to shut the door in your face but Crepus and Kaeya stopped her, the three watched the redhead unable to muster up a word enough to thank you for your gift but he also felt bad for making you feel as if you were a burden and that an apology was in order, he opens the door quickly again only to see that you've wandered off.
A week passed and Diluc never really approached you, he avoided all contact with you. Sometimes you'd get a good look at him and feel like he doesn't really hate you, that he somehow has at the very least affection or liking for you, but that was nothing but delusion in your eyes, he avoided every single interaction. He acted as if he hated you, your guts, you as a person and no matter how much Kaeya reassures you that you're liked by Diluc in some way, he still makes you feel as if he's disgusted by the thought of you.
Your last mission with him came, Kaeya and Diluc became your partner for your mission. It was clearing out a camp of abyss mages. They've gathered up in one place and it has become a very huge inconvenience to people. You came to the scene and with ease, they were dealt with. Or was it? There was barely anything audible to you, you felt as if the man you have always adored saw you as a disgusting person— hell, he probably sees you as those type of people who throw themselves at him for his money and fame.
Going back to the headquarters, Kaeya had a lot to say, he tried to make you two talk. He tried to make Diluc muster up any bit of compliment just to keep your eyes bright like before. In truth, he wasn't the only one that noticed your eyes had gone dark. Everyone did, especially Diluc, he thought you hated being with him after how he's treated you these past few weeks. It was a never ending cycle, he makes a mistake, you try to make up for it, he doesn't tell you how he feels, you get distant, he wins you over and you go back to being yourself once more and then it repeats.
A day has passed since your mission, your things were packed, you visited the winery to bid goodbye to the man who treated you as his own child and the man who supported you with every small dumb decision you have ever made— and the most important man you have ever met, the man that changed your life, your view of love and affection.
Unfortunately, Diluc stood quiet during your goodbyes, he was behind Crepus and Kaeya who gave you a hug and bid Goodbye. He stood in the shadows unsure of what to do next, he stood unknowingly shedding a tear.
"Diluc, can we talk? Just us." You say as he nods and steps out of the winery with you, he stares at you with his ever so dead eyes.
"I have longed to tell you how I felt, how I always felt the need to impress you and how I—.. I want to tell you that you are the only reason I came back to Mondstat, the only reason I became a knight. Diluc I adore you, If I may—; love, even. Diluc I love you, I have for a very long time. All I ever wanted was to tell you yet you manage to somehow make me aware of your dislike of affection. I understand, I really do. It won't stop me from how I feel for you, but Diluc Ragvindr.. there is no point of me being here if it wasn't with you, if It wasn't by your side making you feel happy— if it wasn't with you, there is nothing in this world- in the whole of Teyvat that matters. So in other words, this is goodbye. Diluc, I hope you live a happy life and love someone you truly think is worthy and may they treat you how you deserve to be treated and may they love you as much as I do."
You waited for a brief moment for a response, you hoped.. atleast a bit, atleast a little bit that he would say he felt the same way yet he stood quiet. You chuckled to yourself as you felt your eyes welling up. "Goodbye, Diluc." You walk away with your things and your tears running down your face while Diluc stood in regret, his mouth could not conjure up anything, his body was frozen, his tongue was tied. His words were trapped in his throat and there was no way to get them out. He watched you walk away— you were too far, too far away from his reach. He felt his eyes water, and soon his tears were unstoppable, they felt like fire in his eyes. He wanted to chase after you, he wanted to move his body yet he was frozen in place, he was gone— you, were gone. And it was solely because of him, him not being able to express his love, his emotions.
To this day, he wishes that you would walk into his tavern, that you would come back and say you missed him. That you still loved him, but who was he to ask for that when he had long received your wedding invitation. Who was he to long for the love of someone he hurt and who was he to wish for you to ruin your perfect life with your partner now. He can only wish for you to live a happy life, much like what you wished for him though he knows deep down that no one could ever compare to you.

So on my No Bad End fic I mentioned doing a Crepus approval scale because It was the closest to the Diluc Harem I'll be writing so as a reminder
The Kaeya Scale of Approval Thoma (9.9) Wriothesley (8.5) Xiao (8.4) Itto (6) Eula (5.6) Al Haitham (4) Kaveh (3.5) Albedo (3) Childe (2.6) Ayato (1) Donna (0.5) Zhongli (0)
And now introducing!!
Crepus Scale of Approval!
So starting right at the top, kind of surprise to Kaeya is Al Haitham (9.0). So yeah he's not really a romantic type up he's got a stable job, a house. Good things. But what Crepus likes Is Al Haitham's very "Take care of myself first" mind set. He really wants that to rub of more on Diluc, and he's hoping that together they'll balance each other out.
Right under him is actually Zhongli (8.0) Because like Al Haitham he seems to have a stable job and is well respected in his community. Defiantly gets dinged point for forgetting his wallet. But he's respectful and treats Diluc well. Now if Crepus learns he's an Archon he gets a little torn because suddenly he feels like he's much too old for Crepus's baby, but Diluc deserves the best and how better can you be than a literal god?
After that is a tie with Wriothesley and Ayato (7.5) Like those above them, Crepus like their stable and high ranking positions. They both get dinged though because Crepus would be worrying too much about Diluc feeling like he was fighting for social standing.
Under those two is Albedo (7.3) He's got a lot of going for him, being a knight and having Alice's backing behind him. He just gets knocked down a lot of points because he's a weirdo. And Crepus would constantly be asking Alice "Are you sure your nephew is ok?"
Next up, Kaveh (6.0) Just barely hitting the pass in Crepus's book. He's saved by his pure passion and genuine expression. And I think he'd be the best at really showing Diluc how loved he is. So Crepus can't be too made at that.
Again, Barely passing to everyone's surprised Thoma (5.8). Yeah, he's got a stable job and is really nice and a house husband. But he's a just a housekeeper and defiantly couldn't afford to keep Diluc's lifestyle. And while he's nice, Crepus would worry that he's too passive and that he'd again act more like a servant than a partner.
So jumping right down is Xiao at a (3.8) Crepus would not be impressed, not even after learning he's a Yaksha because how is that going to support his son? He only gets points because ya he could protect Diluc
Itto (1) lives up to his "numero UNO" Because that's all he's getting from Crepus. Where Kaveh could win Crepus's over this his devotion, Crepus draws that line at gangs. At least an architect is a respectable job!
Eula (0.2) Hanging on by a thread. And honestly, it's only because Varka has faith in her. So that does mean something to Crepus. But her behavior would totally turn him cold.
Then with at the bottom Childe (0.1) No way in hell is a crazy harbinger like that going near Crepus's baby boy. But here is the thing. I think Childe would be the most likely to change his score once Crepus's See his devotion to his family. Because... Crepus would want that for Diluc. He wants Diluc to have a big happy family, He'd love going to visit Childe's family with Diluc. But... being Fatui is too much of a risk. Because while Crepus does think Childe is an honest man, he still can be used by other people, and thus they'd use Diluc so no way.
Honorable mention Donna forgetting a negative score Crepus would see her following Diluc around and just ask Varka to keep an eye out.
And for those wondering about the Varka scale for the No Bad End Varka. The answer is they are all zero. You express interest in Varka's godchild, his opinion of you jumps right into the trash.

Imagine when Kaeya was a child, not having been in Mondstadt for very long but already having fallen for it, it's people. So he gets Crepus to take him to Varka, and confesses. He's convinced they'll kill him, but they don't. They comfort him, but...
Crepus makes him promise not to tell Diluc.
Over the years this eats on him, but he keeps that promise. When he confessed, he went to say something to comfort Diluc, but it spilled out, unable to stop himself now that the barrier was gone. It just, obviously, was the worst time possible. Years later, whether Diluc runs into him or Varka comes back, the grandmaster tells Diluc this story. Diluc immediately feels many things, but a sense of guilt and horror take precedent.
Kaeya had chosen Mondstadt long ago, but how would he have explained it? It's not like he had time to think about it. And what does choosing Mondstadt, choosing Diluc, look like? Is it standing beside them? Or maybe sacrificing himself for their safety...

"I-... didn't think. I didn't mean to worry you."
Kaeya had thought-.... he'd thought-.... well. He remembered his mother's stories. Her people had been from Sumeru. He remembered watching her fingertips tracing the branches of a tree in a book she held close. And did you know, my little darling? Your father's city used to extend beneath the surface of my homeland.
He'd thought he might be able to learn something, anything.
He'd intended to come back. The merchants came and went from the winery often, and there surely would have been another ship that could have taken him back just as easily.
Kaeya did admit he was hungry. A little tired, from sleeping fitfully amongst the crates in the belly of ship. (And he missed Diluc-) But he didn't feel particularly strongly of either with Master Crepus looking at him like that.
"I-.... I'm sorry, Master Crepus."

Part 10, 11 Pain
"The Acting was a Lie" by SerenitySolitude
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am very late... and I'm posting these with my phone... at work! (Shhhh!)
I tried to think of other angles when drawing the first scene... ended up with something similar to the Genshin manga... I hope it's okay
I am not familiar with Japanese culture other than from anime, so originally, I planned Thoma to do a half bow apology but inspiration hit me and ended up having Thoma doing a dogeza instead. I couldn't resist xD I ended up being lazy at some parts *coughAethercough*
I apologize for my slowness. With all the eat-only-veggies regime, exercise more, sleeping early, work, and reading fics/manga (okay one of them is not like the others xD)... I'm really trying to draw as much as I can in between. I hope you are all well and take care!

We don't talk enough how Kaeya literally just. Appeared.
Thinking about how Kaeya literally has NO legal documents. So like, logically, Crepus had to forge some stuff. Where is he from? Who knows but his birthday is on Nov30- don't fact check that.
Since Kaeya was abandoned, it does actually qualify him for the Late Birth Registration law in most places, and it probably makes it a lot easier that they're in the city of freedom but STILL, Crepus having to fill that up is so funny to me because he is STRUGGLING.
This kid is seven and the only way they knew his age was bc of some wacko they met on the way to Liyue for a family trip, who was high as a kite, being like "oh ya I'm a licensed pediatrician that is a SEVEN YEAR OLD" and threw up right after. And that was all they had to go off of bc Kaeya was near meltdowns at any mentions of medical testing (he's scared they'll figure out who he actually is, but comes to the realization that there's nothing to match him to)
This kid doesn't even remember his BIRTHDAY. Crepus and Diluc literally had to assign him one. Dude, he is JUST mastering Mondstadtian, he's still stuttering. How do you expect this kid to remember if he's gotten his mandatory baby shots? And he shouldn't be expected to!! HE'S SEVEN.
Crepus, filling out the forms with Kaeya on his lap:
"Kaeya, do you know your blood type?- Wait have you gotten vaccinated?"
"…Huh"
"Archons is this why you're ill 89% of the time"
Eventually, Kaeya agrees for a medical check up bc they genuinely need info on him to fill in his legal meds reports and good fucking lord HOW is this kid SURVIVING. Why is he deficient in 9 different vitamins?? Do we even HAVE 9 different vitamins to be deficient in?? So he ends up in the cathedral for like. A solid 3 months. A month where he literally couldn't leave and 2 where he's in and out for tests and check-ups.
(Turns out he IS seven but alchemy can only go so far so still no concrete birthday)
Crepus is pacing front and back, cursing Kaeya's stupid family.
Not for leaving him, no, Crepus actually feels slightly guilty that he's grateful they left him bc it gave the Ragnvindrs a wonderful new son.
No he's cursing them bc could they really not have made it easier by leaving his STUPID birth certificate and medical records with him? If you wanna abandon him, fine! MAKE IT EASIER FOR THE PERSON TO TAKE HIM IN. GOD.
Diluc and Kaeya was NOT aware of their father's anguish lmao Diluc kept sneaking in with a bunch of trinkets and books to make sure Kaeya isn't bored. Him, Jean, Kaeya and Thoma play Uno on Kaeya's medical bed
(No one is winning but Diluc is DEFINITELY losing. Kaeya has 6 wins, Jean 5, Thoma 5, and Diluc none. He nearly accidentally set Kaeya's cathedral bedsheet on fire after his 12th loss)
At some point, Crepus just starts making shit up bc dude he just wants to take this kid in please. The kid seems to know as much abt himself as Crepus knows of him, so he's no help
(and that's not his fault but come on these documents need filling)
HE JUST WANTS TO TAKE HIM HOME AND ENROLL HIM IN CLASSES WITHOUT THE KNIGHTS BEING ON HIS ASS FOR TECHNICAL KIDNAPPING.
He tells Adelinde this in a rant once:
"You forged legal documents."
"I mean, technically? Most of them were true and obtained by legal means"
"…most of them."
"Okay lets be honest right now, Addie, this is probably the tamest crime you know I've committed"
Ragnvindr Family ily (Also I'm a firm believer that Thoma was a frequent friend in Jean, Kaeya, and Diluc's schemes)

Your mother was one master crepus personal servant in dawn winery, she always brings you to her work to help her clean the mansion as well to play with the young masters of the mansion.
Your duty is to serve the young masters diluc and kaeya be their play mate as well as a personal servant for them. When they ask you to do something you do it.
Originally diluc was cold towards you but soon warmed up to you, kaeya was the one that approached you first and wanted to be your friend.
You and them played together as well with Jean and Barbara, you and them would spend time together for many years until the death of the master crepus. Where kaeya depart from dawn winery as well him gaining a vision.
You still continue to serve master diluc even after your mother's retirement from the mansion. After master crepus death he had become much more clingy towards asking for your presence as well you were the one who comforted him when he was crying.
Until one day, diluc is planning on leaving on an expedition to Snezhnaya for 4 years and he left all the dawn winery manners towards Adeline, elzer and you. He appointed you as the lady of the house when he's gone but It was strange because that's only for the title of wife. Before he left, he gave you a goodbye kiss and said the word I love you and left leaving you stunt.
Without diluc present you just sit and do nothing, because your only duty is to assist and serve diluc but what's the point of working when diluc is gone and you were asked to stay in his bedroom for the entire time by him and the other maids would bring you food.
Recently you've been wanting to see the world more and studied about the leylines as well as alchemy, you submit the paper to be accepted in the akedemiya at sumeru to study there and you got accepted.
So you decided to resign as a servant and become a scholar at the akedemiya. During your departure Adeline and elzer would try to convince you to not go but you ignore their pleading and still go to sumeru to study.
During your time in sumeru, you manage to grow and become a dastur as well as meeting new people and friends there like kaveh, tighnari and alhaitham.
When you were in the house of daena, you received a letter from Adeline saying that diluc has returned and is looking for your present as well asking for your return.
You replied saying that you were already too caught up at the akedemiya as it is unable to serve master diluc anymore due to you being too far of your career in the akedemiya to turn back.
But during one night someone knocked on the door of your house and you opened a revealing diluc, you quickly made a quick bow and asked why he's here, and he replied he's planning on taking you home.
When you ask back what he means, he replied he's bringing you back to dawn winery. And why would you think that you're free to go when he's not present
He said he will give you a life of comfort and without worrying about anything as long as you accept to be his and his only. He pulled out a small box and inside it was a beautiful ring with a diamond and rubies encrusted in the side. It was beautiful and mesmerized, he noticed saying it was custom made and he was planning on proposing to you after he went back from Snezhnaya.
He grabbed one of your hands and intertwined both of your hands together and his other hand with the ring and is planning on putting the ring in your finger before he could put it on your finger, you broke free from your mesmerizing and pulled your hand back the one who was intertwined with his.
This shocked him and he looked at you, you said that you were not ready for marriage and you still have a life as a scholar, you were at the peak of your career and you don't want to abandon it just yet because he simply says he loves you and is back from Snezhnaya.
He stands there and is quiet for a second with a devastated look you said sorry and your hand reached for his shoulder to give him some support suddenly he grabbed your wrist tightly to the point you realest a sound of pain.
He's been waiting for this moment since his childhood, he fantasies you would continue to serve him and when he proposed you would jump in his hands and shouted yes multiple times. He looks at you with an empty look and his other hand crashes into your head and he knocks you unconscious.
You woke up at the familiar room of the master bedroom at the dawn winery and diluc was sitting at a chair reading a book in the far corner, when you step on the cold floor and tried to walk to him you realize one of your legs is chained towards the bed.
He stands up and pushes you towards the red covers of the bed saying that it's not used to struggle as well he already sent a paper towards the akedemiya saying you're leaving your position.
This causes you to burst into tears all your hard work has gone down the drained, he wipes the tears that are running down your cheek saying everything will be fine since you and him are gonna get married in a few weeks.
You tried to strangle diluc but he's much stronger and pin your hand above your head and say it's pointless and submit towards your fate that he plans out. As well saying if you tried to call for help your mother life would be put on the line if you do not obey his order.
He had already planned everything for the wedding the flowers, cake, dress and everything. At the first few weeks you tried everything to escape but it all ended in futile, as well anything to rebel against him, you going on a hunger strike he would force fed you from his mouth.
On the day of the wedding everything was beautiful in the eyes of the guest but for you it's a day of eternal imprisonment. Your hands were tied towards the bouquet and there's nothing you can do, diluc never left your side not once.
Your mother was in the front of the seat and was admiring and celebrating saying congratulations and your unable to beg from her diluc was beside you and has his arms around your waist.
On the night of your wedding, everything was prepared rose petals were on the bed and candles were lit up around the room it was a perfect setting for a happy couple but in your marriage one was the happy one and one is a prisoner.
Diluc forces you to take a bath with him at first before consummating, the bath was relaxing for you but soon becomes disturbing with his hands roaming around your bodies as well kissing your head.
After the bath, you both are in a bathrobe and he pins you towards the bed with scattered rose petals saying he will try to be gentle but unfortunately he didn't, he was rough and was drunk from you and it ended until dawn.
You were exhausted and tired, your body was sore and sticky liquid falling, diluc cuddling next to you with a smile on his and peacefully sleeping as if his having the best dream of his life.
Being in the lady house feels weird as well over-pressuring, you were immediately crushed with paper work but it's not bad compared to the ones you had during your time in sumeru. As well another classified duty of bringing an heir for the clan.
The nobles are snobbish around you, spreading rumors and gossip about you as well shamelessly flirting with diluc In front of you, fortunately you paid no attention which makes diluc passive aggressive since he expected you to be jealous and fight for him.
As well the awkwardness with your friendship with the other maids, during your time as a servant you and the maids would hang a lot but now they distance yourself from you as well calling you lady but not your name. Even when you tried to start a conversation they would say they were busy and scattered away.
Diluc is by an over affectionate one he would bring you flowers, jewelry, and other luxurious items. Your old wardrobe was replaced with exquisite and elegant dresses that cost more than your tuition in sumeru. And he's very affectionate giving you cheek kisses as well as expecting the same from you
And you make a deal with him, once a week you and him would fornicate for an heir. Since everybody is already expecting an heir by now.
There's no way out, give up and submit towards your fate and this prison that everybody called a palace on the outside unaware of the terrors you're experiencing.

Your husband, Diluc. He was different among other men you've met, his outstanding understanding of your problems was unmatched. He reaches out to you when he notices something is wrong, yet when it comes to him feeling down you have to stay away for he needs his alone time. Even if he needed someone to help him with his re-occurring nightmares, panic attacks, sleepless nights and burn outs— you won't see him ask for help. All you can do is stay and be ready for when he tells you he's ready to talk, yet he never really says what's wrong.
Now is no different either— as you walk past your bedroom door that was slightly open you hear soft sniffles and quiet sobs. You open the door quietly and see your husband with his face covered and scissors in hand sitting on the floor facing the mirror. Some of his beautiful red locks were cut off, not too much to notice a difference but definitely cut out of impulse, you rushed to his side with panicked steps yet careful and gentle enough so that he wasn't startled.
He turned to you almost immediately, his breath and hands shaky with blown out pupils. Your heart sank at the sight of him and his reaction snapped you out of reality. His hands dropped the scissors and his hands stopped covering his face, they moved to his arm where he started to scratch with his nails. His breaths were still unstable, almost unable to comprehend what to do, he's at his worst while you stood there with concerned eyes.
You walked over with caution "Leave.. please—please- please leave. Leave you can't— please just .." he stuttered with panicked movements, he avoided your touch, your presence seemed to tense him up more. "It's alright, darling. Talk to me" you said trying to reach out to him, with hitched breaths he shook his head as if a child refusing to take his medicine but this time he was moving with pauses, his head twitched when he felt your warm hands caressing his face gently.
He accepted your touch but his shaking never stopped, his eyes were still filled with terror— his body almost forgetting where he stood, he knew he was back to that little boy crying in his room and cutting his hair then scratching his arms and face- pulling on his hair when he's stressed, he's back to that small child who had no idea what he did wrong. "I'm here." You say slowly reaching for his hands "It's okay." You say with a gentle voice. Your hand finally reached his and you slowly directed it away from his arms and into yours. His arms were filled with scratches and bruises, it hurt to see him like this, your loving husband in such a state blurred your mind and made it full of him and only him.
As you guided his hands away, you slowly approached him while pulling his hands gently and slowly in order to hold him. He noticed and he twitched and you could see him blink faster— sometimes not even at the same time, he was still shaking yet he had no words. "Can you tell me what's wrong?" You say with gentle strokes to his hand, he fidgets with his shirt and opens his mouth to say something yet nothing comes out, his throat was closed, almost too much to process even for Diluc himself.
You saw how he tried to explain but found it impossible to even get a word out "It's okay, it's okay.. you don't have to tell me right now. I'm here 'luc, I'm here." With a small voice he whispers "okay" his breaths were still unstable, he buried his face in your neck where he cried, you stroked his beautiful red locks while whispering some sweet words of reassurance. "I see him every time I look in the mirror." He said after a few minutes, his sobs still ongoing "He died because I couldn't do anything — I failed him, I can't keep going on. Everytime I look, he's there, he's staring right at me. That same red hair and eyes, in complete disarray and disappointment. I can't fix myself, I don't want to go back. My heart feels as if it's being squeezed and torn apart every time I look in the mirror." His voice cracked occasionally, he started to grip on your clothes and you held his hand, rubbing it with your thumb while you continue to stroke his hair.
"You did well darling. You never disappointed your father. I cannot speak on his behalf but I know that he loved you dearly— more than his own person. Dear, you've never disappointed anyone. I don't know what you've been through fully and I never will but all I know is that I'm here now, I'm here to help you through this, you don't have to 'fix' yourself on your own, we vowed to be here for each other, remember? I'm right here, just tell me when you need me." You say as you guided his face to face you, his eyes were soft. He sniffles and nods, you see a small smile which turns into tears. "Thank you." He says with a small voice again "I need you, please." He says again with his eyes directly looking at you.
" and I'm right here darling, tell me how I can help you." You say smiling at him with gentle eyes "Just hold me for now, I can't conjure up words to explain how I feel." He says embracing you once again and nuzzling up to your neck once again. "Of course, though you can also just throw words at me, I'll understand. But for now I'll hold you then." You say with a deep breath.
The next day he spent the day at home being held by you and talking about his problems, his thoughts and he shed a few tears but now he felt better, he felt empty in his heart, but it was the good kind. Almost like he never had any pain to begin with, his chest was light, and his head was empty.

A love story told through voicelines (III)
C/W: slow-burn, Diluc x gn!reader, reader works at the flower shop in Mondstadt, more Wicked and Epic: the musical references, fluff, angst, Crepus mentioned, rumors, no-no word: twat
Note: Pls pretend Donna doesn’t work at the flower shop yet- (here’s part 1 and part 4)
(You) About Diluc: Smiling
He never smiles—I know that for a fact. But when he came to the flower shop today, I swear the corners of his mouth were pointing slightly upward. Hah, I guess you could say the flowers worked! That’s good. Flora took the cost of those flowers out of my paycheck.
(Diluc) About you: Smiling
The way they smiled at me when I came in today… It was different. It wasn’t just a polite smile, but something deeper, something unspoken. I’ve never been good at reading people, but I think… I think they know more than I realize. I just wonder if I’m ready for whatever this is.
(You) About Diluc: Reputation
There are times I feel whispers on the street that have to do with me and Diluc. It’s not like we’ve been particularly discreet in our lunch meetings, so it’s only natural. I just hope nothing bad will happen because of it. No, I’m not so worried it eats me alive—I’m tougher than that, you know! I’m prepared to take what’s thrown at me.
(Diluc) About you: Reputation
When it comes to ‘reputations’, eyes automatically lock on me, being the Master of Dawn Winery, and—to the Knights of Favonius and the Abyss—the Darknight Hero. But I’m already used to dealing with rumors and disapproving gazes—it’s them I’m worried about. Do they feel the pressure of being seen with me? Or do they understand that it’s not just the weight of my family name that comes with me, but all the expectations and rumors, too? I want to protect them from all of it. I don’t want them to feel like they’re being judged for something that has nothing to do with them.
(Kaeya) About Diluc: Recent behavior
Master Diluc. I see him gracing the flower shop more often. Haha, tell me, is he buying blooms for the winery… or for someone special?
(Flora) About you and Diluc
They’ve been getting distracted since Master Diluc started to pass by more; always rushing out the door the moment lunch time comes. Ooh, is something going on between them?
(Fischl) About you and Diluc
Ah, the tale of thy heart entwined with the ever-guarded Crimson Knight of Flames has reached my ears! Truly, a most beguiling confluence of fates!
Oz: Mein Fräulein, it seems that their bond appears to be progressing at a steady pace. Perhaps the Crimson Knight has begun to lower his defenses.
Indeed, Oz! I, Fischl, Prinzessin der Verurteilung, have observed the signs! The subtle glances, the fleeting moments shared between them—these are no mere happenstance. Yet, let it be known, they must tread carefully, for to enter the heart of a man such as he is to walk through a storm. But fear not! For they art no ordinary soul, and the stars favor their cause.
Verily, shouldst they require guidance, I, Fischl, shall lend my wisdom! Together with the ever-watchful Oz, I shall ensure that their journey to the heart of the Crimson Knight is as glorious as it is fateful!
Oz: Or perhaps simply buying him another bouquet might suffice, mein Fräulein.
Hush, Oz! A saga of this magnitude deserves nothing less than grandeur!
(Venti) About you and Diluc
Ah, the stoic knight and his admiring florist—it’s practically begging to be sung, no?
(Amber) About you and Diluc
I’ve been keeping an eye on those two lately, and honestly? I think there’s something special there. I hope it all works out between them.
(Klee) About you and Diluc
That florist is the best! You know… Master Diluc used to be sooo grumpy all the time, that’s why I thought he weird. But now, whenever they’re around, he’s a lot less grumpy, and that’s pretty cool! No one’s ever made him smile before. It’s like they have a superpower… with flowers!
(Lisa) About you and Diluc
So someone has finally brought down his walls, huh? Hm, well done.
(Jean) About you and Diluc
I don’t know all the details, but… whatever bond the two of them share, it seems to have brought him a sense of ease that I haven’t seen in a long time.
(You) About Diluc: Constellations
I found him sitting alone near Windrise one night, looking more tense than ever. Without thinking, I sat next to him in silence, just watching the stars with my head near his shoulder. He didn’t say a word neither, but I felt his eyes on me for a brief moment before returning to the costellations above us. I’m not one for silent moments, but there was something comforting with how quiet it was. Like the night spoke for us. It felt… nice.
(Diluc) About you: Constellations
The quiet of Windrise was unlike anything else. I had hoped for solitude that night, but when they sat beside me, I didn’t feel the need to chase them away. They were calm, simply being there, with their presence more than enough. The stars above seemed so distant, but in that moment, with them there, everything felt strangely within reach. I didn’t have to speak. We just… existed together. It was a feeling I wasn’t used to, yet something about it felt right.
(Adelinde) About Diluc: Recent behavior
I’ve seen Master Diluc return to the manor with a lighter step recently. I dare say, it’s been a while since he seemed this… at ease. Reminds me of when he was still a child; always causing trouble, that one.
(You) About Diluc: Could it be?
It’s hard to put into words, but lately, every time he stops by the flower shop or shares a quiet moment with me, I feel this… pull. Like the world is shifting, and he’s at the center of it.
Could it be some kind of sign? That my life, my world, is all about to change?
But then there’s that doubt—that nagging little voice in the back of my head. Maybe I’m just imagining things. What if I’m wrong about him? About us?
Still… I can’t help but wonder.
(Diluc) About you: Could it be?
I can’t stop thinking about them. Every conversation, every glance—it stays with me long after they’re gone.
But then, one question keeps haunting me: do they feel the same?
I’ve always thought myself strong, unshaken by the opinions or approval of others, yet this… this is different. What if I’ve misread everything? What if the way I look at them, the way my heart quickens when they’re near—it’s all just me?
Was I really seeking something good with them, or was I just seeking attention? Am I holding onto this feeling because I don’t know how to let it go?
(Donna) About “you and Diluc”
Oh, you won’t believe what I’ve heard! You know that florist that’s been hanging around Master Diluc all the time? Yeah, turns out—they have a little arrangement, if you catch my drift. And it’s not just the flowers. Hahaha! Seems like a desperate move, but who knows? Maybe they’ve been waiting for more than a paycheck.
(You) About Diluc: Rumors
I thought it wouldn’t matter to him, you know. He seemed like the type not to care about gossip. Maybe I was wrong there. Archons—maybe I was even wrong about us! I’m so confused… how could he throw our friendship away like it was nothing?! All because of that Donna—psh, who even is Donna?! Who is she to mind Diluc and my’s business? If she has something to say, then come on! I’m all ears! In a moment, I’ll be all fists too. She’s just jealous! Twat.
It’s no use being angry, Diluc’s gone. He’s gone… and I don’t know what I can do to get him back. … I need to see him. No—I don’t care if he doesn’t want to talk! He can’t just throw away what we have! Whatever that is. I’m going to the manor!
(Diluc) About you: Rumors
I heard about it… from one of my staff. Some girl, Donna, spreading terrible lies about them. I had the situation dealt with, of course. …They don’t deserve this—these watchful eyes and loathsome minds that seem to misinterpret every step they take. I thought by letting them go, I would be freeing them from all of this. That was the right thing to do, isn’t it? Protect the people I care about, even if it hurts me? That’s what my father would’ve done.
(Diluc) About Crepus: Protecting loved ones
Truth is… I don’t think I’m anything like him. He would have handled this better. He wouldn’t have been so cowardly—so afraid of ruining something good that he let it slip through his fingers entirely. I wanted to keep them safe, to protect them the way I couldn’t protect him. But instead, I’ve only driven them away.
If my father were here, what would he think of me? Would he see me as strong, or as a coward hiding behind excuses? I don’t know anymore. All I know is that I’ve hurt them… and I can’t stop thinking about how much I’ve failed them. I promised to protect them, but I’ve only hurt them. And now… I don’t know if I’ll ever have the chance to make it right.
Note: now how tf do I write part 4-

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diluc polished the glass he held in his hand. It was quiet, beautifully so. The loud chatter of drunkards during the usual weekdays were now replaced with the delicate silence of his environment.
Diluc could see his own reflection in the wine glass, it glinted with the casual lighting of Angel's Share.
Before he heard the door creaking open, he saw the peaks of blue. Who else could it be other than Kaeya.
He waltzed through the door, the corner of his mouth tilting upwards when he saw Diluc.
Diluc turned to face his brother, clenching his jaw in preparation for the relentless teasing he's recieved for the past few days.
Diluc made the fatal mistake of glancing over in your direction when you were talking to someone.
Kaeya picked up on this immediately. Like a sponge he soaked every single interaction between the two of you to compile into a theory of Diluc's clear infatuation over you.
As much as Diluc wished Kaeya would stop sending him playful glances each time your name was brought up, he couldn't deny some of his words held a hint of truth to them.
Although he wouldn't say ‘his eyes had their own heartbeat’ whenever he glanced at you. whatever that meant.
“Ah, Diluc! Pleasure to see you here.” Kaeya greeted. Flashing him a small grin as he sat down on the stools in front of the bar.
“I wish I could say the same to you.”
Kaeya only laughed in a placating manner.
“Brother, is that any way to treat your future best man?”
Diluc deadpanned at Kaeya's audacious words.
“What do you want?” He sighed as he threw the rag over his shoulder.
“Aside from good wine, a fine chat would do.”
Diluc swiveled around after he got Kaeya's order.
“I'm not your in house entertainment,” he spoke. “If you wanted entertainment you should've come during the weekend.”
Diluc huffed and placed the empty glass in front of Kaeya.
“Better yet, go elsewhere.”
Kaeya shrugged, “Of course Master Diluc, I'll keep that in mind for the future.”
Diluc continued to prepare Kaeya's drink. The sooner he left, the better. He didn't need to hear his incessant teasing.
If he glanced back, he might've seen Kaeya's gaze locked onto his gloves.
Kaeya carefully investigated the lumps of fabric. Was it just the light playing tricks on him, or did that seem like the outline of a ring?
Soon the tavern door opened again, and Diluc resists the urge to sigh.
Yes this is his job, but that doesn't mean he has to enjoy all parts of it.
Diluc sets Kaeya's drink in front of him, his gaze raised ever so slightly.
Then it locks on yours. You look like how he expects you to. You bring him a warmth him pyro vision could never mimic.
Then he remembered who else was in the room with him. He gave you a curt nod, trying to indicate something to you.
“Suddenly the atmosphere feels a lot colder.” Kaeya said.
You cleared your throat, a small black box in your hand. Wrapped in a gorgeous red velvet colored flat of fabric. You fiddled absent-mindedly with the ribbon.
“Sorry Kaeya, I was just a bit distracted.”
He smiled as he turned to the side, giving him a better view of both Diluc and you.
Diluc adjusted his tie, and brushed his hair back. Something he clearly didn't think much of. (Unlike the man that stared at him as he did so.)
He huffed amused. ”Don't worry about it Mx. [Name], at least with your company I won't have to worry about someone brooding anymore.”
Diluc shot Kaeya a glare from the corner of his eye.
‘Don't say anything you'll regret.’
Kaeya only smirked.
‘I rarely regret a thing I've said.’
You cleared your throat at the poorly disguised tension in the room. Snapping Diluc out of his in-between conversation with Kaeya.
“Good evening.” You greeted the both of them.
You walked over to one of the wooden stools. It was solid, carefully made so that even with the hours of use it acquired over its long carrier of chairness you couldn't find a single trace of weathering or possible splinters.
“So what brings you here? I didn't take you for a drinker.” Kaeya hums, taking a small sip of his wine.
You shake your head, “I'm not here to have a drink, dealing with a hangover tomorrow would be horrible.” You shivered.
“Do you not handle your alcohol well?”
“Kaeya.” Diluc scolds.
“What? I'm making conversation.”
“Don't make me kick you out.”
Kaeya sighed, curling his bottom lip into a pout in an exaggerated fashion.
“I haven't even finished my drink yet, surely you'd let me enjoy this first.”
You smiled at the interaction.
And just for a second Diluc's eyes met yours. You were looking at him so.. openly? He couldn't decipher that stare of yours. He could feel the slight amusement in your stare.
You were such a force of confusion in his life, but with you he didn't need much reason. His ears tilted red with each second longer your eyes met together.
You took pity on him, breaking eye contact first. “I'm not a lightweight, I just tend to go overboard.”
Kaeya chuckles at the clarification. “Aha I see.”
You placed the box onto the counter, the sound amplified by the silence that shrouded the room.
Diluc leaned over the counter of the bar, he used his elbow as a prop for his head. He blinked at the foreign object. A slight intrigue made him want to open it.
But… three's a crowd.
Clearly that sentiment slid out of his brain, bouncing around the room before it pointedly made its way to Kaeya.
He paused before sighing. “As much as I would love to indulge in these tendencies I do have some work to get back to.” Kaeya placed the mora he owed onto the table, before taking out a flash attached at his hip and pouring the rest of the wine down it.
“Ah, already?” You murmured.
“Unfortunately so.” He nods, “Very well then, see you both soon.”
You both bid him goodbye, and he sent a wink(you think??) in Diluc's direction.
As soon as you both hear the click of the door the atmosphere concentrates around the two people in the room. Both of you relax, a breath of shared comfort between the two of you.
You nudge the box closer to Diluc, his red hair falling against his face slightly as he tilts his head in your direction.
Archons you really need to know how he keeps it so well maintained..?
“This is?” He picks the box up in his hands, it feels miniscule in his palm.
“For you.” You said simply.
He blinked, “What's the occasion?”
You shook your head, “It reminded me of you.”
He hesitated. A gift from you wasn't a rarity, yet it still felt odd each time he recieved one just… because?
He opened the box, it was two things. A hairpin. It was a solid metal, the imagery of a flower with its petals dyed red. Golden accents adorned the sides. It shimmered in regality with the dimmed lighting of the tavern glinting against the metal.
The next piece was made in similar fashion. The silhouette mimicked the frame of the hairpin but in a much more minimalistic fashion. It was a gorgeous deep red, a notable tie clasp.
“These.. are beautiful, [Name].” He said.
You agreed, “So, you're calling yourself beautiful?”
“...”
Before he could sigh from exasperation he saw the teasing glint in your eyes. “If that's what you see me as, I can't help but not trust your judgement.” He leaned further into you, a small smirk playing against his lips.
You felt your face warm up, for a guy that was so content with shrouding himself in intrigue and mystery, his eyes betrayed that reputation.
They were so clear, if you looked directly into them you might've seen the mini Diluc’s running around scrambling to formulate his thought process.
The ombre of red and orange harmonized into a blazing ichor that threatened to swallow you whole.
He looked back at you, and you swore his eyes burned through your soul. His features were so tightly knit in comparison to his wide red eyes.
“You're not being fair right now.. stop looking at me like that.” You huffed.
“Don't you spend your time searching for the beauties of this world? Don't tell me you've given up on that goal already.”
This guy… he could be cunning when he wanted to.
You didn't allow yourself to falter, seeing this as a battle risking life or death. There was no way you weren't going to win this battle of flustering the other. (Diluc didn't even know what the hell you were thinking.)
You used your sword, otherwise known as your hand to stab his heart.(read: grab his tie.) You pulled it ever so slightly closer to you. Ignoring how
You huff, leaning over the counter to grab him by his tie. He jolted at the sudden action, his torso angled over the bar, his hands moved closer to his waist, holding onto the edge of the wooden panel to steady himself.
Your fingers make their way closer to his neck, never straying from the fabric of his tie. He swallowed thickly as he watched you concentrate on fixing it.
As much as he doubts there was nothing wrong with the way he tied it, he.. appreciates the way you look up at him, just for a split second.
“Of course I haven't.” You said.
Diluc saw your lips move before he could hear you. He snapped out of his daze, the proximity between the two of you reduced to the length of a ring finger.
 “I haven’t taken a picture of you.”
Diluc pulled away, noticing how you already clipped the pin onto his tie.
You bit the inside of your cheek to prevent the chuckles of amusement from slipping out. He had turned away from you, it was a desperate attempt to hide his reddened skin.
More than ever is he glad you two are the only ones in the tavern.
You see him rub his face, the traces of red starting to dissipate from his neck and ears. You can't help but smile. You can't tell you're smiling because of his reaction, or the fact he's allowing you to see him like this.
“[Name]..” He turns back to you, his lips pursed together.
“Diluc” You responded, taking in his full appearance.
The gentle slopes of his face, the harsh curves of his jaw and nose. They all worked together in a polyphony to create the the person you admire so dearly.
“Ah, that reminds me. Unfortunately I have a business trip to attend in a fortnight.” You broke the silence of the room.
He lowered his head to meet your gaze.
“Should I bring anything back for you? A gift.. a recipe.. I'm sure I could learn to cook something for you.” You offered. Diluc's face paled.
The thought of you cooking something for him used to be a pleasant fantasy. But seeing it in practice turned any thought of you stepping into the kitchen into a nightmare.
You might as well have had a pyro vision the way the stove went up in flames.
“I… appreciate the sentiment.” He grimaced. “If anything, I wish you to return to me safely.”
You smiled back at him, bemusement tracing the corners of your mouth.
“Of course. I'll make sure to have a good time as well!”
He hummed. “Don't slack off.”
“I won't I swear–!” You exclaim, jabbing your finger in his face.
You both continue to talk, in a way only the two of you know of each other. Barriers and walls broken to build a bridge between the two of you.
These words are a well kept secret between the two of you, at least for now.
You leave the tavern when more people begin to filter in as the sun sets.
Tumblr media
Time truly didn't stop for anyone. It wasn't long before Diluc had to bid you goodbyes. Time failed to capture the moments he spent with you leading up to that.
A month had already passed since you left, his favorite place to be during that time was at the dawn winery. Letters you wrote came to him every other day.
You were safe, and it sounded like you were enjoying the time you spent in fontaine. He no longer had to relive the first week of sleepless nights worrying about your well being.
He was in the dawn winery again, a newer letter in his hands. Diluc traced the wax seal, one he specially commissioned for you.
He began to peel it off, a twinge of eagerness coated his fingers in a newfound fervor.
Just before he could read your letter, he heard a familiar high pitched voice.
“Master Diluc would totally help us!”
Was that..?
“The traveler maybe, but you and I are on the same level!”
He looked up to see the traveler and their floating companion, along with venti matching their pace.
From the corner of the doorway he could just barely make out Adelinde's sheepish expression.
“Traveller, it's good to see you here.” Diluc greeted, resisting the urge to sigh at the interruption.
He subtly slipped the envelope on the dining table behind him.
“Hey! How come Paimon doesn't get a hello?” She huffed, her hands balled into fists at her sides.
“Hello Paimon. Venti.”
“Told you.” Venti shook his head, ignoring Paimon's pointed glare.
Traveler quickly spoke up before Paimon could get provoked, “We have something to give you.” They handed an envelope to Diluc.
He quirked a brow as he looked it over, undoubtedly from you.
Diluc hasn't been keeping tabs on The Traveler's journey, but something must have led them into Fontaine..
He let himself open it— the wax lifted under the nail of his finger.
Eagerness. Anticipation. You're right by his side– he swears. You play with his senses to a degree he cannot fathom. As he stares at the photocard of a few scones, he imagines he's sat across from you.
He could practically hear your indecisive ramblings about what to get. ‘The beignets sound tasty– oh but what about the blueberry scones? I'm not feeling for blueberries though..”
“Can't believe the traveler's been demoted from honorary knight to delivery service!”
For a second you coat him in a warmth– so entirely reminiscent of you. Diluc grieves the nights devoid of you.
“It's a noble job Paimon, I'm pretty sure you've made Diluc's week!”
Even before he saw your name signed at the back, he knew it was from you. He covered his mouth. He could recognize you in fields towered higher than his gaze. It's yours. You. You. You. You.
“Eeh? Whaddya–?”
Diluc looks up (unfortunately,) to see the black, amber, and green eyes looking back at him.
.
.
.
“Diluc must really like Mx. [Name]’s letter.”
The traveler breaks the silence.
“Now I'm curious, what could they have written to awoke such a reaction out of him, any theories?” Venti playfully questioned.
“Maybe it's a love letter!” The pixie answered with too much giddiness.
“It's definitely blackmail.” The blond smirked. (Furrowed brows? Check! Gotta be something incriminating.)
“It's neither.” Diluc deadpanned. “Don't make such uninformed guesses.”
“Uninformed? But Mx. [Name] said they'd sent a buncha letters! But they haven't gotten a response.” Paimon insisted, the unspoken words of ‘Diluc would totally ignore someone's constant love letters if he had the choice.’ underlined her speech.
“The trip from Mondtsadt to Fontaine is a long one, I only started to receive their letters two weeks ago.” Diluc shook his head, (a poor attempt to quell the fairy's theorizing.)
“We could always pass on a message?” The traveler offered.
“I wouldn't mind!” Venti chirped.. for some reason?
Paimon grumbled, “you're not included in this Tone-Deaf Bard!”
“ Eh? I was planning on visiting Fontaine soon anyways.” Venti replied, pouting only to further provoke the floating child.
Diluc quickly cleared his throat, (just in time to prevent the childish duo from bickering with each other.)
“If the traveller is offering, I do have something I want to give to [Name].”
Venti squinted, but didn't say anything.
“Of course,” The traveler agreed.
Diluc quickly drafted a note, not taking long to compile his thoughts into words meant for you.
The group continued to talk amongst themselves, bidding Diluc their goodbyes after he handed them the note enclosed in an envelope.
He saw them off to the door, leaving them with one final parting message, to not open it.
He saw them walk off into the distance. Diluc sighed as they left– relief admittedly washed over him.
But it was short lived.
The recognizable high pitched wails of the ivory haired tag-a-long was enough to confirm he'd have a lot to talk to you about as soon as you returned.
Tumblr media
It must've been a millenia till you returned
The breeze of Mondstadt made each step you took feel lighter. You could smell the scent wafting from good hunter's the moment you passed the gate.
You barely noticed the few pointed looks in your direction. One coming from a hard to remember face. (who was wondering who she was supposed to be jealous of.)
You ignored it, only wanting to do one thing. You practically floated into the tavern where you asked a certain someone to meet you when you came back.
You walked into the tavern, the brazen hours of daylight left behind you.
“Nice to meet you again, Diluc.”
His eyes snapped to your person, widening at the sight despite your predicted arrival. He got out of the area behind the bar to take you into a warm embrace.
No matter your stature, getting hugged by Diluc feels like a blanket covering you, protecting you from the outside world. He takes over your senses, the warmth of being home.
“I suppose you miss me?” You muttered after he pulled away. He was close enough to hear even the slightest change in your breathing.
“More than I could ever admit.” He breathed out, more than glad to have you back.
“Did anything exciting happen while I was gone?”
He sucked in his teeth with a slight furrow of his brows. “I wish it was more mundane actually.”
“Huh. Tell me more?”
You both made your way to one of the multiples of empty tables. You both spoke in hushed whispers despite there not being a single person to overheat.
“I'm sorry, dear.” Diluc apologized, his head resting in his hand, his fingers covering a bit of his eye. Red bangs would have fallen on top of his calloused digits if not for the familiar hairclip pinning them back.
“Don't be sorry, it wasn't your fault at all.” You let your fingers rest on the side of his face, tilting his head to look into your eyes.
He had told you about the incident, how Paimon's curiosity led to the whole of Mondstadt knowing the most eligible bachelor wasn't a bachelor at all.
It didn't help that the first line was ‘To my dearly beloved,’ unmistakably written by him.
It wasn't long before the ‘secret’ spread along Mondstadt's greatest gossipers, Diluc was out of stock.
“I understand you didn't want this kind of publicity, but I'm okay with it.” You insisted.
He looked at you, his eyes weary with exhaust. Whether it was because he was worried over your reaction or the scandal seeping his energy, you didn't know.
“[Name], you don't need to pretend it's fine, we agreed this would be a secret.” Diluc grumbled.
You remember that vow, the publicity of dating one of Mondstadt's most notable figures would have been incredibly pressuring.
You didn't know if you were ready for that.
“It was something I expected if I'm being honest. I'm well prepared, love.” After all, if you were to progress your relationship to the next level, it would be an even bigger shock if Diluc was secretly married.
Maybe this was for the best..?
You put your hand onto the table, your palm facing up as he moved his hand to meet yours, keeping his grip on your palm secure.
“No matter what happens, we'll do it together, okay?” You vowed.
Diluc looked at you warmly. Even without a pyro vision, you don't think he'd ever be cold to you.
A beat of silence passed, and he rubbed the back of your palm with his thumb. His glove rubbed against the peak of your knuckles.
“You look tired,” He whispered listlessly.
You bantered, “I could say the same for you.”
You both stood up, Diluc kept his hand locked in yours. “Let's go home.”
And you couldn't want anything more.
