I have four asks for Wild Children scripted out after this comic, but then I'm out of story-related asks. ^^;

Had a dream I was Alice Elliot from Shadow Hearts so like. petite devout exorcist character basically

Am at a hotel aware that demons are going to try to sneak in. For some reason part of detecting the demons in the dream is just...making all guests sign in. Either demons can't sign/write at all or maybe they're so used to stealing souls with contracts they'd automatically write their true demon name or whatever, my dream didn't really explain that, just that as an exorcist I knew I had to make people sign in to their rooms to catch the demon

Guy comes in, maybe a little disheveled, but not acting too weird until I try to make him sign the guest book

He won't. Laughs me off and grabs the key and starts marching to the room while I'm following him with the book like "sir" "SIR" "s i r."

He gets in the room and goes instant demon. Like getting in a hotel room in itself is victory. (???) He starts using wind magic, lifting everything in the room, and uses it to hurl a whole couch at me.

What Alice Elliot can do in Shadow Hearts: use light elemental magic, heal, smack enemies with a book while making sounds of Much Exertion Because Mage Build

What I as Alice Elliot do in the dream: catch the sofa lightly in one hand (some magic might have been involved? just. not. magic she actually demonstrates in canon). Chuck it back at the demon like "no u" and send him sailing out the window on the other end of the hotel room.

I woke up laughing.

sitting in the forest wondering if her sister misses her, its only myself telling me through her that she doesnt forgive me, she would never say that, but isnt she worried, im sure im worrying her! or maybe i was only ever holding her back and shes happy im gone. shes so young and i wasted all of the time she had her youth while she had to be a mother to me. shes going to have a happy life, shes going to get married and have her own children. and now i cant see her ever again.... i cant see her anymore.....

uuaahhhh I warmed up to them ;A;

I am not immune to rough-and-ready demon boys with traumatic backstories being loved and treated kindly by angel girls who also have traumatic backstories but handle it with aggressive compassion instead of violence. It's so SAD that sacnoth is always determined to make their bad endings canon, but on the other hand it does mean there is a whole bunch of delicious Yuri angst in SH2 that is right up my alley >:3 and the SH2 ending allows you believe that Yuri goes back and gets the good ending eventually <3

If we strip away some of the tired sexist anime tropes (which do dramatically fall off as the game progresses), Yuri evolves into a full himbo by the end of the game and I remembered very early on in my playthrough why I loved him.

Also it was really nice to play an RPG that only took 30 hours to complete. God, I love shorter games.

Jumped straight into Shadow Hearts 2 and JESUS I always forget how much of a mechanical and aesthetic upgrade that game is. SH1 was originally developed for the PS1 but released on PS2, and it looks blocky and rough with creaky FMV, but SH2 STILL looks great in pretty much every respect.

Also, Yuri now looks like this:

SH2 still has an abundance of gay references that often make gay men out to be the butt of the joke, but even my aroace ass can see Yuri does not aesthetically exist for the pleasure of straight men lmao. He is dummy thicc and they gave him a boob window.

A BOOB WINDOW.

I mean, I can appreciate this aesthetically, and I do. But the point is, sacnoth were outwardly leaning into old gay stereotypes like “hurr hurr gay people are camp and silly and funny”, AT THE SAME TIME AS designing this man, and designing an elaborate ‘stud card’ item set each with its own realistic illustration which is basically a bunch of collectible trading cards of buff naked men holding random objects in ways that tastefully hide their dicks, which you have to trade with a camp gay NPC in exchange for goods and services, and also coming up with the entire concept of the Man Festival.

So, in retrospect, while in bad taste and offensive at times, this game is also incredibly fucking gay at ALL times xD

Anyway, in case it wasn’t clear, I'm now reintegrating Yuri Hyuga into my blorbfolio.
