U.P. Breaking News Bulletin – 12-4-17 6:30 p.m. ET
Domestic violence, shoplifting incident leads to arrest of federal fugitive and a Negaunee man convicted of being involved with crystal meth in Alger County
By Greg Peterson U.P. Breaking News Owner, News Director 906-273-2433
(Marquette, MI) – A federal fugitive and a man with a methamphetamine past were arrested on Sunday in Marquette County and charged with domestic violence and shoplifting.
27-year-old Tyler Michael Tull of Negaunee, MI remains jailed tonight after being booked into the MCJ about 6:30 p.m. on Sun., Dec. 3, 2017. Tull is charged with one count each of first degree retail fraud and domestic assault. Bond is not set. Tull is an active parolee/probationer with the state of Michigan in connection with a meth investigation in Alger County. Tull was sentenced to up to two years in prison – but it appears he actually got probation for possession of a controlled substance analogues. Tull was sentenced in Alger County in January 2016 and received a “discharged status” on January 10, 2017.
Federal fugitive 48-year-old Kurt Ochoa of L’Anse, MI was booked into the MCJ about 2 p.m. on Sun., Dec. 3, 2017.
Ochoa is charged with second degree retail fraud ($1,000 bond) and third degree retail fraud ($1,000 bond).
Ochoa is also charged with one count of domestic assault with no bond.
Ochoa was facing criminal charges in the Western District of Missouri and his case was transferred in July 2016 to federal court in Marquette.
In fact, it appears he was wanted by federal officials (scroll down to read or download federal documents).
Ochoa admitted to possessing and using marijuana in July and August of 2016.
On Sept. 8, 2016, Judge Robert Holmes Bell in Marquette, MI sentenced Ochoa to 18 months in federal prison for violating the terms of his supervised release in connection with the case in Missouri.
Ochoa should have been in federal prison when he was busted.
In July 2011, Ochoa was arrested in Green County, Missouri and faced federal charges of receiving stolen firearms and unlawful transport of firearms by a felon. He was sentenced on June 2011 by U.S. District Court Judge Dean Whipple in Missouri to just over 5 years (63 months) in federal prison.
After his release, the case was transferred to the jurisdiction of federal court in Marquette to allow Ochoa to live in L’Anse. But that did not work out. Ochoa still faces a two-year federal prison term for violating probation.
Here is the federal paperwork involving Ochoa (scroll down to see what state of Michigan has on Tull):
Kurt Ochoa Case transfer from Missouri to UP (1)
Kurt Ochoa Case transfer from Missouri to UP (2)
Kurt Ochoa Sentencing in Missouri
Kurt Ochoa Indictment with others in Missouri
KURT OCHOA, violates probation
Its not clear if the cases are connected.
However the cases are similar to a radio call answered late last week about a domestic dispute and shoplifting at the lawn and garden section of Walmart in Marquette Township. A suspect vehicle fled and was pulled over by police officers on U.S.-41 near Best Buy.
