This is unironically true. I remember looking up Alfred Nobel one time and we got so deep into researching the causality of events across the entire 20th century that we decided to invent a COMPLETELY NEW TIMELINE that diverged in 1893 Just So I Had More History To Study.

It just hit me how much it must suck to be Alfred Nobel Like imagine. Thousands of desperate and poor miners die in mine-explosions, so in an attempt to prevent that you invent a more stable alternative to Boomjuice. Then the miltitary takes your invention and uses it for so much murder. Then you have a heart attack, (which cant be a nice experience) which is swiftly eclipsed by reading the worst obitiary you could ever be forced to read. So you take all your "saving working class lives"-money and set up a fund so that, posthumously, you can fund those comitted to genuine betterment of the world. But the people in charge of your posthumous legacy consistantly pick genocidal eugenicists for the science awards, and keep handing the prize for preservation of human life and peace worldwide to the types of people who murder civilians with the same frequency a regular person uses a comma. Like his life-saving invention became a tool of war, and then his attempt to posthumously better the world (and repair his reputation) became the Academy Awards for Warcrimes.
