The first Nobel Prizes were awarded on December 10, 1901, which was the fifth anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel.
Nobel was a Swedish scientist, inventor and businessman who was also passionate about writing drama and poetry. He is particularly notable as the inventor of dynamite and other high explosives, and held more than 350 patents in his lifetime.
When Alfred Nobel wrote his will in 1895, it established that prizes would be awarded each year to commemorate and honor those who made significant achievements in the areas of science, medicine, literature and peace.

This is our daily reminder to pay it forward. Every day is something to celebrate! Today is National Bootlegger’s Day Bootleggers, rum-runners, whiskey smugglers and moonshiners represent the idea of freedom that was particularly embodied during the prohibition years in the United States. Told that they couldn’t drink, make or sell alcohol, many people decided that they were going to fly under the radar and make their own rules, secretly... Thank you daysoftheyear.com!

It’s National Alien Day: Do You Believe In Extraterrestrial Life?
Happy National Alien Day! Yes — it’s a “real” day.
A nod to the sci-fi film franchise “Alien” which began in 1979, April 26 is a reference to the moon in the first Alien film, LV-426, where the movie is partially set, according to DaysOfTheYear.com.
While there are many films depicting life beyond planet earth and unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, there are plenty of people who truly believe they exist beyond the silver screen.

Ahead of my trip to the Open Book, I scoured Amazon for appropriate books to prepare me and 'Diary of a Bookseller' seemed to fit the bill. It wasn't until I began reading it that I realised quite how well it would prepare me. The book is written by the owner of The Bookshop in Wigtown and is a realistic and humorous take on the life of a bookseller. The book contains many tales of people met, books collected and plenty of local knowledge. It was in this book that I first learned of the Wigtown martyrs.
This morning, we visited the stake where the two Margarets, aged around 18 and 63, met their fate of drowning by the rising tide in 1685. To deserve such a fate these women had merely held religious beliefs that differed from those accepted at the time of the Scottish Covenanters.
On our way down to the stakes, we passed one of Wigtown's many bookshops where there was a map of Wigtown's women and I look forward to exploring it over the next few days. There was also a dog, and a dog inside a bookshop is perhaps the very best of combinations. I look forward to visiting the Reading Lasses this week for cake (highly recommended to us yesterday by fellow bookseller, Ruth).
Once we opened up, I set to some polishing and dusting and some additions were made to the front counter in the forms of a note for the delicious chocolates left by Farnaz and Dahlia, and a bowl of little stones with eyes I uncovered behind the counter that I've now named 'Book Buddies' because everyone needs one of those!
I began exploring the shelves a little bit more; seeking out books of interest. In an old book about Scotland, I located a page about Wigtown that described the town as it was in 1943. Within the extract is a charming and curious inscription located at the site of the martyrs' graves. The delightful words describe a man named John Cowan:
'Of stature small and leg lame,
Content he was with portion small,
Keeped shop in Wigtown and that's all.'
I loved this description of Wigtown and this particular extract so much that I've now displayed the book on the counter for my customers to read should they wish to.
James then reminded me about the A board and so I set about leaving a note about being open. Writing neatly on a chalkboard is surprisingly tricky and I'm thankful we were into whiteboards by the time I began teaching English. We checked DaysoftheYear.com to see what days were being celebrated today that we might be able to work into our message to customers. Having discovered that it was Nachos Day, I located the perfect cheesy joke to encourage chuckles from those walking past.
When checking DaysoftheYear.com, we found out that it was also Manatee Awareness Month. I began rifling through the nature section to locate images and information about these mammals, of which I knew little. By coincidence, James has been flicking through 'Gorillas Were My Neighbours' by Fred Merfield where he'd written about an encounter with the creatures. Less fortunately, he'd closed the book and hadn't made the connection until later on. After lunch and much leafing through Merfield's book, I finally located the reference and added it to our display. What Merfield describes is the way in which manatees gave rise to the legend of mermaids due to the way the females would bob up out of the water with weeds on their head and human-like breasts.
Other tasks today involved more cleaning, hoovering, some tidying of the children's area, a window display about birds, and a 'Try Something NEW' display.
The coming days will include further explorations of the local area and visits to other booksellers. We added six more books to our pile today from the Open Book alone so I feel empathetic towards the customer today who admitted to his wife's frustrations about their house resembling more of a library than a house. I'm certain ours will become similar upon our return from Wigtown.

Peach Ice Cream will make you feel Peachy
Happy National Peach Ice Cream day! Even if you aren’t feeling peachy today, some Ice Cream should put a smile on your face. Not like we need an excuse to crush some sweets, but on a hot July summer day? I have already sweat through a couple shirts today and went on a long run this morning. The question isn’t if, it is when and how many scoops?

Did you know that today is Barista Day?
According to DaysoftheYear.com, "In 1938, the first record of the use of the word “barista” was made. From the Italian language, the word is technically used for a bartender of any gender. In America, the word barista is used just in relation to coffee. However in Italy, it can be related to alcohol, coffee or other drinks. In appreciation of baristas everywhere, @almondbreeze – the alternative milk manufacturer – has now launched Barista Day. This is an event which the company says will celebrate the people behind the beans and coffee machines that keeps us all energized."
Do you have a favorite coffee shop and barista? Before shops started closing here in IL, I had wanted to start working once or twice a week at a local coffee shop. Well, that's not happening right now in most places but if you go and grab a coffee today, show your appreciation to your barista by giving him/her a larger than normal tip if you can. If you can't, a kind smile, a little patience and thank you will do.
I would love a latte right about now! And I really want to start trying more local coffee shops. Don't get me wrong, I love Starbucks but also want to support local coffee shops like @honeyhillcoffeeco in Wauconda, IL @conscious.cup (they have a few locations, we have been to their Crystal Lake, IL store) and @grounds_coffee_bar in Crystal Lake, IL.
We recently tried Fairgrounds Coffee and Tea @ourfairgrounds in Vernon Hills, IL but I just read that they are temporarily closed. That is sad to see. We had a great experience there!
What is your favorite kind of coffee? Do you have a favorite coffee shop? Tell us all about it (tag locations too!). Let's give them a social shout out.

Begosh And Begorrah, If It Isn’t Leprechaun Day Today
…a day where we celebrate the small folk.
Or to be more honest, something I found on DaysOfTheYear.com and didn’t know was a real thing anywhere until now.
Which is surprising, seeing as one was supposedly found not far from where I live.
‘What?’ you say.
Yup, a local business man claimed that he’d heard a scream one day near a wishing well. And on racing over, found some bones, glasses, and a little patch of scorched earth.
As you can imagine, the press were all over it. Where did it happen? What did you see? Have you seen any more?
And, would you believe it, he had answers to all of those questions.
Yep, there were more, 236 of them to be exact.
And had he proof?
Sure he had, didn’t he have a little glass display case, in his premises, with a tiny green suit inside in it.
Can you smell the B.S?
But he ran with that tale for years. Any chance he had, he told the same story. And once it gathered traction, tourists started dropping by Carlingford to see the little green suit.
That turned into a yearly Leprechaun hunt – at 5 euros a pop – where families can hunt down little statues hidden in the hillside.
Which then turned into the EU giving the ‘little folk’ heritage status, meaning they live in a protected sanctuary in the Carlingford mountains.
Nice, right?
And the lessons to be learned here.
– Copying everyone else means you don’t stand out.
I’m sure there were other towns that would love the tourism that Carlingford gets, but just copied what everyone else was doing and got the same lousy results.
– If you’ve got everyone’s attention, make sure it’s you that’s getting all the traffic.
You can store your little glass case on Facebook or YouTube’s page, but remember you aren’t in control of those premises. – Always be inviting back to your place.
– You don’t need to think ‘complicated’ to come up with a money making idea.
Like those few ceramic statues on a hillside, one of the best ideas I ever had, was showing people how to create money making content from stuff that was already littering up their hard drive.
That’s what I did yesterday.
A little spit-polish on Instagram posts I made months ago, became the desktop wallpapers you saw on the site.
How did I do all that? – It’s right here.
PS – Or you could just start a wild rumor that Big Foot’s living at the bottom of the garden, and see if you can sell some books that way.
Anything’s possible!

Drama Posting 6:
“Hati-hati di jalan ya!”
“Iya, hehe...”
“Kalau bikin EP jangan pakai kalender kampanye ya! Hahahaha.”
“Eh, iya, hehehe”
Padahal, peringatan Isra Mi’raj dilaksanakan hari berikutnya. Fyi, konten peringatan kenaikan Isa Almasih Luna Linu tertukar dengan Isra Mi’raj dong. Padahal, konten admin lainnya benar.
sumber: http://www.liburnasional.com/kalender-2016/
Asal teman-teman tahu ya, hari libur di sini berdasarkan sumber terpercaya kok.
Barulah kemudian Luna Linu menyadari.
“HAHAHAHAHA, MAKANYA JANGAN BERPATOK SAMA KALENDER KAMPANYE!” - orang kantor.
Tapi, selama berminggu-minggu dia menjadi bulan-bulanan orang kantor. Orang-orang jadi iba dengan Luna Linu. Kok ya zonk banget sih. Hahahaha.
Btw, kami masih mencari teman SMO lho! Magang pun juga boleh. Kapan lagi gaya hidup disokong oleh klien? Ma? Langsung hubungi saya di Twitter @rizaasz ya~

DO A GROUCH A FAVOR DAY! I couldn't find an exact origin of this holiday, but over at daysoftheyear.com I did find 2 cute theories: 1)The day was Big Birds attempt to cheer up Oscar the Grouch and 2)The scheme of a grouch who wants people to do nice things for them. How to Celebrate: • Its pretty simple, know a grouch? Do something to make them smile :) • Write a letter or note with some kind words • Bake for them • Listen to them • Give them a hug • Take them somewhere nice • Cook their favorite meal Use hashtag #doagrouchafavorday
