HUNDREDS KILLED AND WOUNDED IN ISRAELI FIREBELTS ACROSS THE SOUTHERN GAZA CITY OF RAFAH

Hundreds of Palestinians were killed and wounded in overnight and morning firebelts launched by the dozen by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) on the southern Gaza city of Rafah Monday, February 12th, 2024.

Healthcare sources with local hospitals say over 100 civilians were killed, mostly women and children, as a result of the Israeli firebelts, with hundreds of others wounded and casualties being rushed to local hospitals by the dozen.

The exact number of dead remains unknown at this time, while some sources like AFP say at least 52 were killed, but Reuters put the number closer to 67, while local government officials assert the number is well over 100. The number of wounded was put at upwards of 230 by local sources.

Medical sources connected with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society told local reporters that fierce Israeli airstrikes targeted the Rafah city-center, targeting civilian homes near the local Red Crescent headquarters.

Speaking with the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the director of the Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah, Suhaib Al-Hams, says the hospital is overrun with the dead and wounded, and is lacking proper medications and supplies to care for so many wounded.

According to some sources, occupation warplanes launched upwards of 40 airstrikes on civilian homes, vehicles, and mosques, all of which currently shelter 1.5 million Palestinians displaced by the Israeli genocide. Other sources put the number of airstrikes at over 50. While at the same time, occupation artillery and naval shelling were fired at civilian targets in and around the Rafah area.

Scores of civilian vehicles arrived at the Kuwaiti hospital to bring the wounded, while hundreds of others arrived to shelter near the hospital, hoping to escape the bombardment.

Several mosques were targeted by the Israeli occupation, including the Al-Rahma mosque in Shaboura, as well as the Al-Huda mosque in the Yibna Refugee Camp, where dozens of displaced Palestinian families were sheltering inside. Occupation airstrikes also targeted 14 civilian residences, while other Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling targeted areas near the border with Egypt.

Remains of the dead littered the streets of Rafah, with huge clouds of dust and smoke clogging the air while Israeli drones, helicopters and aircraft buzzed overhead.

To add to the Israeli atrocities, reporters with the Lebanese news outlet, Al-Mayadeen, say the Israeli occupation army used banned incendiary missiles combined with conventional bombs and shells to target civilians in the Rafah area.

According to the Gaza's Ministry of Health, the Israeli occupation committed upwards of 19 new massacres against Palestinian families, resulting in 164 deaths of civilians and wounding more than 200 others over the previous 24-hour period.

The death toll in Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestinians has risen in excess of 28'340, mostly women and children, with an additional 67'984 wounded and thousands of others remaining buried under the rubble of their family homes.

THE HOLY KAABA

The Holy Kaaba, located in Mecca is the holiest shrine in Islam. The Holy Kaaba was originally built by Prophet Adam, then rebuilt by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail. The Holy Kaaba is elegantly draped in a silk and cotton veil embroided with verses of the Holy Quran in pure gold.

In Islam, Muslims pray five times a day towards the direction of the Holy Kaaba. This direction is marked in all mosques and enables the faithful to know in what direction they should pray. The Quran established the direction of the pray. All Muslims aspire to undertake the Hajj, or annual pilgrimage, to the Kaaba once in their life if they are able. Prayer five times a day and the hajj are two of the five pillars of Islam, the most fundamental principles of the faith.

Upon arriving in Mecca, millions of pilgrims gather in the courtyard of the Masjid al-Haram around the Kaaba. They then circumambulate (tawaf in Arabic) the Kaaba, during which they hope to kiss and touch the Black Stone (al-Hajar al-Aswad), embedded in the eastern corner of the Kaaba.

THE BLACK STONE OF THE KAABA

The Black Stone of the Kaaba, (Arabic Al-Hajar al-Aswad ), Muslim object of veneration, built into the eastern wall of the Kaaba. The Black Stone originally from paradise, was given to Prophet Adam and was originally white but has become black by absorbing the sins of the thousands of pilgrims, who have kissed and touched it.

THE STATION OF IBRAHIM

The Station of Ibrahim is the large stone block on which Prophet Ibrahim stood while building the upper walls of the Holy Kaaba. It is believed that this rock was sent from heaven to Prophet Ibrahim.

One of the miracles of Prophet Ibrahim, is that when he stood on that rock, it became soft and which resulted in making the impression of his feet on the rock. After centuries, those impressions are still on the rock.

Prophet Ibrahim would stand on the rock and Prophet Ismail ( the son of Prophet Ibrahim ) would hand the stones to him. It is located in front of Kaaba, near the door of the sanctuary.

IOF storms different areas of al-Khalil, amid settler attacks in Masafer Yatta.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed on Monday different areas of al-Khalil province, blocked roads and assaulted citizens, while settler attacks were reported in some areas.

According to local sources, the IOF stormed and carried out a search campaign in Idhna town, Jabel al-Rahma area and Khilat al-Labid in western al-Khalil.

The IOF also continued to close the main gate at the entrance of Idhna town and prevent its local residents from entering or leaving.

Local sources in Idhna said that Israeli soldiers chase and assault local residents if they try to leave or enter the town through alternative routes.

Israeli forces also closed different areas of al-Khalil province, including the areas of Qaizun and Bir Haram al-Rama and their vicinity.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army closed the Ibrahimi Mosque in the Old City of al-Khalil to Muslim worshipers for two days at the pretext of Jewish celebrations.

In a related context, the IOF kidnaped at least 18 citizens in the West Bank during violent raids on homes, which started on Sunday evening and continued into Monday morning.

In a separate incident, a horde of extremist Jewish settlers set fire to a one bedroom house belonging to a Palestinian citizen in the eastern area of Shaab al-Batm in Masafer Yatta, south of al-Khalil.

The same settlers also attacked several Bedouin gatherings in Masafer Yatta and tried to assault a citizen and his family in Khirbet al-Halawa.

Local sources said that the settlers threatened to displace Mohamed Abu Arram and his family in Khirbet al-Halawa.

Liverpool Muslims shocked by riots in UK

For Liverpool’s largest mosque, this week has been the first time most entrances are blocked, people in reflective jackets take turns patrolling, and a handful of worshippers sleep inside at night, according to Reuters.

Officials at the Al-Rahma Mosque say these are all necessary precautions during the worst riots in the UK in years.

The heightened vigil has come as some Muslims and ethnic minorities in Liverpool claim they feel unsafe amid widespread protests targeting mosques, immigration centres, and hotels where asylum seekers have allegedly been living.

Both mosque officials and other Muslims in Liverpool revealed they were shocked after two mosques further north in England were attacked by violent crowds, with hundreds of anti-immigration protesters and counter-protesters clashing in Liverpool city centre. Shops were looted and several police officers suffered injuries.

A second mosque in Liverpool, the Abdullah Quilliam, which describes itself as Britain’s first, has been temporarily closed due to violence fuelled by a false claim circulating online that the killer of three girls in neighbouring Southport was an Islamist migrant. Abdulwase Sufian, a 20-year-old student who helps at the Al-Rahma, said:

I was born here, I was raised here. So seeing this, it just doesn’t feel like home. Seeing what’s happened, it’s gotten me scared, not just for myself, but for the future.

Sufian added that the separate women’s entrance to the mosque, which served a wide range of Muslims from ethnic Yemenis to Pakistanis, had been closed to discourage women from entering the mosque in the evenings for security reasons. He himself did not go outside his immediate neighbourhood for fear of his safety.

Muslims are terrified

Saba Ahmed, a community worker and another Liverpudlian Muslim, said she had felt “terrified” in recent days. Nevertheless, many of Ahmed’s white English friends supported her, with some neighbours offering to go grocery shopping so she could stay safe at home.

Others, however, were less fortunate. Farmanullah Nasiri, a taxi driver, revealed he was attacked after picking up two passengers on Aigburth Road in Liverpool in the early hours of Tuesday morning. One of them, a woman, punched him in the face and smashed his video recorder as she got out of his silver Ford Focus after an argument over the fare had begun. She insulted him when she found out he was an ethnic Afghan, Nasiri said.

This is kind of a racism … Been here for more than 10 years in Liverpool. Everybody’s friendly. There’s no issue like this before. This is the first time.

Tell MAMA, a group that tracks anti-Muslim incidents, has received more than 500 calls and online reports of anti-Muslim behaviour from across the UK in the last week. This was five times more than the previous week, its director Iman Atta reported.

The group argues that anti-Muslim hatred had been growing in Britain even before the riots began, and especially since the conflict in Gaza started last year. More than a quarter of the 550 British Muslims surveyed last month said they had experienced an anti-Muslim hate incident in the past year.

◽Ashhadu Alla Ilaha Illallah

▫️The phrase “ashhadu alla ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna muhammadarrasulullah” is known as the shahada (testament to faith) and is has a significant importance in Islam.

▫️It is a represents a fundamental concept of Islam being one of the five pillars, it’s also recited by Muslims daily during the five obligatory prayers, it is a necessary statement that must be said and understood by people who convert to Islam, and it is a form of prayer (dhikr) which should be said during ablution (wudu).

◽WHAT EXACTLY DOES ASHHADU ALLA ILAHA ILLALLAH MEAN?

▫️The meaning of ashadualla ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna muhammadarrasulullah is “I bear witness that there is no deity (none truly to be worshipped) but, Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah”.

◽These are two testaments or professions to one’s faith:

▫️la ilaha illa llah

There is no deity but Allah.

▫️Muhammadur Rasulullah

Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.

◽SAID TO BECOME A MUSLIM

▫️To join the Muslim Ummah you would recite the shahada and have 2 witnesses present. Now, having witnesses are not strictly required to convert — Allah knows all things, so a Shahada said alone, with conviction, would make you a Muslim. To become legally recognized in your local mosque and get acquainted with those in your community, you generally must make your Shahada in front of witnesses—two Muslims or an Imam. A complete understanding of the Shahada must be understood and said sincerely in order for the conversion to be taken seriously. Tricking other non-muslims to recite this phrase in a joking manner does not establish them a Muslim.

◽SAID DURING PRAYER (SALAT)

▫️During salat before the taslim (concluding portion of prayer where you recite salam) you would recite attahiyat. This dua also contains the testament of faith while you raise the index finger signifying the Tawhid or the oneness of Allah.

▫️At-Tahiy-yatu lil-lahi was-salawatu wat-tay yibatu, As-Salamy ‘alika ay-yuhan-nabiy-yu wa rahma tullahi wa barakatu, As salamu ‘alayna wa ‘ala ‘ibadil-la his-saliheen ashadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna muhammadan rasulu llah.

◽ALSO TO BE RECITED DURING WUDU

▫️It is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad to recite Shahada during Wudu.
