I don't think I'll ever be able to wrap my brain around how clever the Ward plot twist is
Bc what the writers do, in regards to a "wolf in the herd", is draw all suspicion off him by having him screw up the past episode. By killing the fake Clairvoyant, "for Skye", the other characters treat him accordingly: he's locked up. He's in a cell when the others learn about HYDRA, and given what he just did, no one (characters & audience) is questioning whether he's really S.H.I.E.L.D.
And so we point fingers at everyone else. Coulson is an obvious no, and unless Skye feels like switching again, she's a no. May feels far too obvious, and Fitz seems as far removed from HYDRA as possible
In fact, the one we all start to suspect is Trip. He only showed up a few episodes ago, and he suddenly gets along with everyone. Not only did he train under Garrett, but he's the one who's with Simmons at the Hub. And everyone is being secretive, everyone's anxious, and Trip certainly doesn't plan on being taken out. Since it's told largely from Simmons' pov during her parts, we're the ones seeing her fear, her cautiousness. Her whole "I can't trust anyone" thing. Trip seems suspicious
And he seems suspicious enough that we don't see the true wolf, the one who's been with the team the whole time

a major problem that im having is that there is no quake spinoff. like, daisys story is insane in agents of shield, they did so much with her and everyone elses character. but she deserves to get a really character focused show of her own like agent carter and jessica jones were for those characters.
give me the daisy johnson story dammit.

T.R.A.C.K.S has to be the most underrated episode of agents of shield because it has such a sick narrative framing device and literally ALL of the emotions at the end. I never see anyone talk about it but it's probably top 3 for the season imo behind turn turn turn and the finale

I just wanna know how 7x09 goes from being this goofy, hilarious take on Groundhog Day, with moments like Daisy and Jemma casually DYING on the floor, with Deke proceeding to have a mental breakdown over it (because HELLO he just watched Daisy and his nana dramatically drop dead on the floor), while Coulson groans with annoyance about how much of a pain in the ass it is. And, of course, “phlebotinum”, and Enoch casually destroying everybody, and Coulson slowly but surely losing his mind, some cute Dousy moments too, among other absolute gems.
Then you get straight up gut-punched by conversations like Daisy and Coulson’s, about the irony of the time loop being a metaphor for his fear of the inevitable future where he will have to watch every single person he cares about die because someone “decided he should.”
Like wow. Hit me right where it hurts, why don’t you? (I could make a whole post about that conversation alone.)
Not to mention the power of Enoch’s last scene:
“Does it hurt?
It does, a bit. But it's not the physical pain that troubles me. I am acutely aware that in my thousands of years observing humans, I never used to feel lonely. I've been alone many times. To be candid, I preferred it, but it wasn't until I met this particular team of SHIELD agents that being alone meant feeling lonely. And I don't care for it. So, I am feeling, as you might expect, some anxiety now…
You don't have to. You're not alone. Daisy and I will stay with you right up until the end.
That is very kind of you. But, it's that last part, isn't it? You can stay with me up until the end, but you cannot come with me at the end. I will have to leave you and I will have to do that alone and I can't help wondering when that happens, will I feel lonely?
I can say with some authority that you're not wrong. Dying is lonely. But the feeling is temporary, at least for the person dying. The ones who are left behind… less so. I guess that's the one advantage to going first.
Yes. It's different watching your friends go before you, isn't it? I've been through that as well. It can be harder to stay than to leave. I'm sorry, Philip J. Coulson.
Enoch, the team will carry on the mission. We will survive because of you. Thank you.
You are most welcome. But Agent Johnson, while your friends will indeed survive, the team will not.
What do you mean?
I have seen the future. Carry on this mission and cherish it for it will be your last mission together.
That's not possible. Enoch, this is my family.
Of course. Yet, this is the nature of families. I have seen it countless times on countless worlds. People arrive, so we celebrate, and people leave us, so we grieve. We do what we can with the time in-between but the cycle is always there. No one escapes it. Not even me.
Which means you are not alone. You are apart of that cycle.
Like every other living thing.
Fitz... he was my best friend.
And you are a good friend to Fitz. You are a good friend to all of us.
As I have always...”
Like holy SHIT, man. I am on the FLOOR. It never fails to get me each and every damn time. I resonate on such a deep level with that entire scene, and it honestly affects me so greatly, even to this day. The emotional chokehold that it has on me is unmatched. Someone put the entire thing on my grave tbh.
I could go on about it forever, but basically, 7x09 is just my favourite episode of television ever, and I can say that wholeheartedly. Hats off to everyone who worked on that episode (and every episode let’s be real) I swear. It will forever hold such a special place in my heart.

i've started another rewatch of agents of shield and i gotta say s1 is great--ALL of it-- especially early s1 (first 10 or so episodes).
it bugs me when ppl say s1 is bad or you can skip episodes.
probably because of the episodic "monster of the week" style early on, which is typical of any generic spy/cop-adjacent show.
but if you know anything about the mcu timeline and where season one fits, you can't skip them.
episode 17 is captain america: the winter soldier, when shield falls.
so, in the first 16 eps, there's a throughline- the web of relationships between the main 6 gets established and built up in those early, early episodes just to knock it all down (and build it back up again). nearly every character gets an episode (or more) to explore more about them and/or showcases their relationship with another member of the team.
you need all of that context to make Turn, Turn, Turn work or it falls flat. It makes it all the more devastating and emotional.
god i love s1 so much

Is the Iron Man armored adventures fandom even alive? anyways i watched it like a month ago, and i have to say it is absolute peak. i love it.
Please watch it if you havent its so good except for the fact that rhodey looks grey most of the time, which is infuriating, but other than that, i think it's a good show.
Gene and tony are Toxic yaoi 💔 "sorry tony stark for kidnapping your dad and making you have shrapnel in your heart and trying to kill you and your friends many times but when we were friends i really liked you but this is my destiny yada yada yada" -gene khan.
Imagine being friends with someone, but boom turns out it's your enemy.
Of course, when Gene first met Tony, he had the intention of just using him for info, but of course, they became actual friends to the dismay of Gene.
When Gene got the 5 rings and had flashbacks of the time he spent with Tony and Pepper, he wanted to go back to them and be friends with them but he went after his so called destiny instead cause he thought it was more important cause hes been told it since he was a child.
Im upset there's no season 3. What happens with Gene after the end of season 2? Do they ever meet again? Do they ever make it up to each other? do they become friends again? Save meeeee

Season 1 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not bad. It really isn't. To both a longtime fan and a complete newcomer to the MCU, it would not be seen as a bad show if they just did more than surface research on it
If you look at the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes for the show overall, it has a 95%. 89% for s1. On IMDB, 7.5/10, with their lowest episode being only 7.1/10. Critics like it, audiences like it
So why is it that it is viewed so negatively by a large majority of Marvel fans? And to that I say: they never stuck around till the end of the season
See, when AoS was coming out, there was massive hype around it. Marketing would have you think that it was some type of Avengers crossover, with people like Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff showing up every other episode (but hey, this is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Not Agents of T.H.O.R.)
This is what led to the massive turnout of 11 million viewers for that first episode, but when it turned out to be a show about S.H.I.E.L.D. featuring new people, like it always was supposed to be, people very quickly tuned out
(Even tho, hey, it's a SPY show and you only watched 1 EPISODE. Give it some time)
But most didn't give it time. They wanted to see Hawkeye and Fury and Maria go on adventures that would stand the test of time, fighting Loki and essentially just being mini Avengers, and when that didn't happen, they left. They wrote early reviews claiming that the show didn't meet expectations and wasn't worth the time. You get a very sharp dip from episode 1 bc marketing claimed this was an Avengers show, and people felt that it fell short
Those reviews are what Marvel fanboys use now, without ever watching the show themselves or pointing out that they're literally 11 years old. They bring the idea that the show is boring and lazy, putting aside the fact that basically everything else from it is called innovating and jaw-dropping. They praise the use of THEIR ideas in other Marvel shows, but call it plain in their home territory. They don't bother
So hey, if you're planning on watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., please ignore literally everything those fanboys say. They haven't watched the show, those early reviews couldn't stand watching past episode 2, just ignore them. Trust the fandom when we say that not only is season 1 perfectly fine, it's truly amazing fun, and so many of the plotlines they executed in that season are incredible
Because if we all stopped at season 1, there wouldn't be any shows

Day 11: Verbal affirmation, Couch cuddles
Grant Ward & Leo Fitz, Agents of SHIELD, Saving Grant Ward AU, Episode 1×6: FZZT coda
-------
He was reading in the lounge when Fitz wandered in, halting by the coffee table, but without really standing still. Grant felt the eyes on the top of his head, and looked up slowly, just as Fitz turned away, hands fidgeting in that way they did when he was thinking too much. But he didn't walk away.
"What's up?"
Fitz jumped slightly, spinning back to face him as if he'd only just noticed Grant there. "Ah, nothing, nothing, I just–"
"Having trouble falling asleep?"
"Well–" A shrug, a shake of his head. The kind of nervous twitches that set off every protective brotherly instinct in Grant. "No, I just–"
Grant tilted his head. "Why are you smiling like that?"
"Wha-? No, I'm not–"
"Did she kiss you?" He'd heard them talking in the bunks, not the words, but the warmth.
Fitz spluttered a moment, left hand flying up to touch his cheek, before he collected himself, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Ah, no! No, she did not."
On the cheek then. Grant couldn't help smiling, as he nodded. "Mmhm." Sheesh, these kids were cute. "But you'd deserve it."
That stopped Fitz, held him blinking for a moment, suddenly frowning. "I don't–"
"You did great today." Grant shut Shatterpoint on his thumb and leaned forward, trying to catch Fitz's eye again. "You were amazing in there, helping Jemma. You saved her life."
Fitz look back at the floor, rubbed a hand over his curly hair. "Well. I didn't... jump out of a plane or anything."
"But you were going to." Grant smiled softly into those doubtful blue eyes. "You're very brave, Fitz. Leo the lion," he added, with a grin. "Bravest of them all."
Fitz stared at him, blinked, then turned away abruptly, but not fast enough for Grant to miss the way his face seemed to cumple.
Shit. He dropped the book on the couch in his haste, standing to reach for Fitz's shoulder, but hesitated when a tremor ran across them.
"Fitz? I'm sorry, did I-?"
He didn't finish, because Fitz spun to throw his arms around Grant's middle, and bury his face against his shirt.
Grant froze, blinked twice, alarm bells ringing wildly in his mind, but when Fitz made a move to pull away, everything fell quiet, and he dropped his hands to the kid's back, held him close.
A sigh, before Fitz relaxed, curls tickling Grant's chin as he turned his head to speak clearly. "Thanks."
For what, the hug? The compliment? Well, at least Grant didn't seem to have done irreparable damaged their friendship. He smiled, rubbed a hand up and down Fitz's spine. "Sure, kid."
Grant waited till the tremors had left Fitz's body, before he spoke again.
"You should go sleep."
"You're not my dad." But there was a laugh in his voice. Grant let him go, and Fitz stood away to rub the back of a hand over his eyes. "And I'm not tired yet."
"Right." Grant nodded, hiding his grin as Fitz stifled a yawn. "Okay then." He sat back on the couch, picked up his book.
Fitz promptly flopped down next to him. "Do you wanna watch something?"
Grant gave him a sideways look, and held up Shatterpoint. "Not really."
"Are you reading Star Wars? I didn't know they had books."
"Hundreds of them actually." Grant eyed Fitz, the way he leaned toward Grant, the way he squinted as if his eyes were wanting to close. Finally he sighed. "Hey, sometimes when Coulson's up late I read to him."
"Oh. Um, sure. Go ahead."
He was a little surprised at Fitz's instant agreement, but shrugged. "Should I tell you what's already happened, or-?"
"No, no." Fitz waved a hand. "Go ahead."
So Grant plunged into a scene of Jedi Mace Windu trying to befriend some children on a war-torn planet, while he tried to ignore the way Fitz inched closer, until he was cuddled right into Grant's side, yawning every other sentence.
Grant paused at the end of a chapter to sip some water, and it hit him suddenly what was so familiar about this. It was like Rose, curling against him as she fell asleep, or way back when they were kids, and both she and Thomas had sat with him while he read bedtime stories. Because Thomas said he did better voices than Mother.
It was like getting the wind knocked out of him, the wave of fear and panic thundering through his chest. What if-? What if he hurt Fitz? What if he broke Fitz's trust, just like he had Thomas's? What if he and Fitz ended up hating each other like he'd hated Tommy, and Tommy still hated him? Oh, hell–
"Why'd you stop?" The Scottish burr made the mumbled words almost unrecognizable, and Fitz's breath was warm on his bare arm.
Grant breathed out, forced himself to relax. "End of the chapter." He slipped his bookmark in, shut the pages quietly. "And you should go. Even you can't deny you're half asleep."
"You need to sleep too. You can't protect us if you don't rest."
What? He stared over at Fitz who was stretching a little, rubbing knuckles in his eyes.
"Yeah," he said at last. "Okay. Let's go then."
But Grant lay awake in his bunk longer than he liked, listening to the air filtration system humming, and trying to ignore how the walls felt like they were closing in around him. He shut his eyes, imagined himself running down the beach at Crecent City, Tramp bounding next to him. He did not let himself think about Fitz, about how warm and solid he'd felt against Grant's shoulder, about how neatly he fit into Grant's arms, just like a little brother should.
That night he dreamed of falling.
