Thinking about Doctor Who series one episode eleven “Boom Town” again…

i yearn for a doctor who finale that doesn't have world or universe threatening stakes. we haven't had one since the doctor falls where the doctor just took a stand to prolong the survival of one colony ship.

this new season's finale is gonna be called THE REALITY WAR and while i'm sure it'll be good i'm just tired of this shit mattering so much. we really need a season that's just adventures and then one really impactful adventure at the end with some thematic through line but no actual season long story arc.

especially since we only have 8 episode seasons now, i just don't think we have enough time to establish a super big arc while also keeping the episodic nature of doctor who alive. they either have to do a fully serialised 8 episode run about ONE thing, go full send on being episodic, or ORDER MORE EPISODES PER SEASON.

touched up my study of orion and took some daylight photos, i am very excited with how it turned out!

this was my first real attempt at a space scene replica that wasn’t just secondary to a subject - but it definitely won’t be my last!

i love astronomy so here’s some educational content (and detail shots)

Main reference photo was a long exposure of the Orion constellation taken by Rogelio Bernal Andreo, an astrophotographer, and @deepskycolors on instagram.

Barnard’s loop is the large red crescent area. I didn’t label it very well above, sorry for the confusion.

Betelgeuse is a red giant star. You can point it out easily in the constellation because it has a deep orange hue. It’s long been theorized to go supernova soon, and people track its chaotic dimming and brightening in the hopes that one of them shows sign of a brilliant explosion that would light up the night.

From left to right: Flame, Horsehead, and Orion Nebulae

There are many famous photographs of these guys, especially the Horsehead. More likely than not, you’ve seen them. I didn’t realize before making this painting that they’re nestled right into Orion’s Belt like that. Guess I’ve been staring at them all my life.

My details here are a little botched in the painting. When I do more of these, I’lll be sure to pay more attention to detail on a small scale, especially for the more well known formations.

I will keep doing these and I plan to base them off of private astrophotographers’ works. I love the art form and want to pay it some respect.

i made a shield mug :)

my mom recently celebrated her birthday, and invited my sibling, their partner, and me to a porcelain painting workshop.

quick explanation: you get to pick from a range of porcelain items that are still raw, aka not glazed yet, and you get to paint whatever you want onto them, before its covered with a transparent glaze and put into the oven.

i made a shield/quake mug, but i think the quake symbol infused a little too much vibrational energy, because while it baked the bottom ring unfortunately shattered. the shop gave us a generous coupon though, and we got a kitsunagi kit and sealed the broken part, so its all good :)

im really happy with how it turned out, and i think i have a new favorite mug now :D
