Sometimes, I look up the the clouds and imagine what it's like to fly that high, to fall through them, to touch them. A part of that is a much more wonder-filled child. The one who doesn't know they're not something you can really taste. You can't grab them, can't mold them, not like what will happen to us only a few years after that. But today, the clouds are heavy and droopy, all I see is sad dogs chasing after something. It's gone, of course, what they're chasing after. But a dog is loyal until its end. I wonder what I'm chasing.

The record player sang the voice of Helen Forrest, her vocals backed up by Harry James's orchestra, playing their most popular song, "It's Been a Long, Long Time." Both were long since passed away, but listening to old music made Bucky feel like he was back at home in the '40s, still checking in alleyways to make sure Steve wasn't provoking anyone bigger than him, still living with his sister Rebecca. He wished he could have seen her grow up, or at least have seen her one more time before she passed away but fate had other plans for him. Other plans that included you. Plans which he was quite happy with, actually. At this point in time Bucky forgot about everything else, the fact his best friend left him, his past as the Winter Soldier, it all didn't matter, the most important thing right now was you. He could hear your breathing over the music, feel the weight on his chest as you both lay on the couch. For the first time since Wakanda Bucky felt... Calm. Peaceful. There was no more fighting, no more Hydra or John Walker. Just you, him and Alpine. The only thing he had to worry about was the small garden outside, seeds of your favorite flowers that he had to water.

It all finally clicked for Bucky. He was free. It was over. He was home.
