my academic journey (warning: i ranted) -
so ever since i started school till about the end of 8th grade i was always a 90%+/straight A student. the kind of child my classmates & cousins would be compared too. not trying to glamorize comparison btw, i personally think that's really toxic & pressurizing. so yeah, i was a "good" quiet kid. i listened attentively in class and submitted all my homework on time. the only complain teachers had about me was that i was "too quiet" but that wasn't a real issue. i was just shy but talkative with my few friends yano. i spent the entirety of 7th grade & most of 8th grade in online classes so my habits of studying went to shit. still somehow managed 91% in my 8th grade finals. and then 9th began and it all went downhill. teachers kept saying 'next year is ur board exams, u need to study a lot, etc, etc.' so if u're not from india we basically have these major 'board exams' at the end of 10th & 12th grade. but 10th boards don't really matter all that much, teachers just make a big fuss about it. 12th boards matter, but that's also the time we give college entrance exams and that sorta matters more according to most ppl. n yeah, idk what happened but i got overwhelmed. i could no longer just do well in class and study before exams and get good marks. i felt dumb. my grades didn't see a single improvement. i honestly gave up in the middle of it all and got sick of school. and at one point, it became less burn out & more clinging to the familiarity of not doing anything. i became lazy. and i became a hypocrite. i'd always tell myself, this time i'm gonna study, this time i'm gonna score well. well that 'this time' never came. 10th grade got even worse and i scored 73% in my board exams because i barely studied at all. at the same time, my relationship with my parents has constantly been unraveling. and i saw just how much of their 'pride' was dependent on me being the kid they could show off and smile widely when others replied 'wow she's going places'. my father can't hold a single conversation with me now that doesn't go back to me being a disappointment. and now i'm the kid who has to listen to her parents compare her to others. 'be like her, your friend', they say. halfway though 11th rn and i guess what?? still no fucking improvement. but the thing is i know this is the last straw. i can feel it. i got around 64% in my first tests (pa-1) of 11th. haven't gotten mid term results yet but i'm estimating just above 50%. and the thing is it's not that i can't score well. i know my potential all too well. i know i can score such high marks. but the problem is i don't study. if i just studied a couple hours every day, i can easily manage above 80%. with constant improvement i can manage above 90% again. but i don't. and that's ending right this instant. i'm not gonna turn into an academic weapon overnight or smth ik that. but i'm gonna start slowly but surely working hard. i have big dreams, i know i can achieve them if i just put in the effort. plans have been made, all i need to do is execute them. execute my laziness. i'm gonna get better. i'm gonna prove everyone who thinks i'm never gonna do it wrong, and i'm gonna prove myself right. this comeback will be for me, my inner child. the little kid in me deserves to not wind up a washed-out failure.
academic goals! -
pa-2 - 75-80%
11th finals - 80-85%
12th pa-1 - above 90%
uni - iiser (college for pure science research, bs + ms integrated)

ā‹†. š™š Ėšappreciating your core circle & celebrating your uniquenessā‹†. š™š Ėš
firstly, your core friend group is such a precious gem. remember, having a close-knit set of people who know and love you is more important than being universally liked. hereā€™s how to make the most of your supportive tribe:
ā€¢ before tough classes or presentations, lean on your close friends. even a quick pep talk or a smile exchanged across the room can boost your confidence. ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ use your circle as a sounding board for your ideas. they can help you rehearse presentations or give you tips on how to navigate group assignments. ā€¢ celebrate your wins together. even if itā€™s after a brilliant group discussion or just overcoming a day that felt isolating, take some time to share those moments. ā€¢ remind yourself daily that your worth is not determined by the acceptance of everyone around you. you are a unique, clever individual radiating positivity. never forget that.
2. ā‹†. š™š Ėšturning group projects into a positive challengeā‹†. š™š Ėš
group assignments can be super intimidating when youā€™re unsure whom you can rely on. but think about it as an opportunity to discover parts of yourself you might not have met otherwise. here are some practical steps for navigating group work:
ā€¢ start by introducing yourself warmly. a simple "hi, iā€™m [your name]ā€”i'm excited to work with you all" can set a friendly tone. ā€¢ initiate a casual group chat or a quick get-to-know-you meet-up before diving into the work. suggest grabbing coffee or even meeting in a quiet corner of the campus to chat. ā€¢ assign roles based on everyone's strengths. this not only clarifies who is doing what but also gives everyone a chance to feel valued. propose clearly defined tasks by asking, "what part do you really love doing?" or "which part feels natural to you?" ā€¢ if some group members remain distant or rude, focus on collaborating with those who are engaged. sometimes, itā€™s okay if one or two people are enthusiastic. quality over quantity. ā€¢ always have a backup plan for situations when group dynamics falter. perhaps create a personal outline for the project and set aside time to rework any loose ends. this helps you retain control over your part of the assignment, even if others arenā€™t as invested.
3. ā‹†. š™š Ėšbuilding personal resilience and managing class anxietyā‹†. š™š Ėš
feeling out of place in classes where few familiar faces exist is completely normal, but there are some really neat ways to boost personal resilience. i like to think of these techniques as little self-care rituals that build your inner strength:
ā€¢ start your morning or class prep with affirmations. say something like "i am enough" or "i belong here" as you look in the mirror. these affirmations can be surprisingly powerful. ā€¢ cultivate a mindfulness practice. even just five minutes of deep breathing before class can help center your energy. use mindfulness apps or even a simple timer to guide you through a quick meditation. ā€¢ keep a journal of small victories. jot down every little win, like speaking up in class or even smiling through a challenging presentation. these notes become a lovely reminder of how far youā€™ve come. ā€¢ set up a pre-class ritual that calms your nerves. even if itā€™s listening to your favorite song, enjoying a cup of herbal tea, or just giving yourself a gentle pep talk, these rituals let you enter class with a positive mindset. ā€¢ acknowledge that itā€™s okay to feel anxious. instead of trying to push the feeling away, wrap yourself in understanding and self-love. after all, every uni student feels the pressure sometimes.
4. ā‹†. š™š Ėšcreating meaningful connections beyond your immediate classesā‹†. š™š Ėš
even if certain classes feel socially isolated, there are countless ways to build community on campus. sometimes, the most unexpected connections can blossom into the most sincere friendships. consider these avenues:
ā€¢ join uni clubs, societies, or interest groups that resonate with your passion. it can be a creative club, a study group, or a casual meetup for a shared hobby, these environments tend to be super welcoming. ā€¢ attend campus events, workshops, or talks. these can be fantastic settings for meeting people outside the rigid structure of classroom interactions. it's a chance to meet someone who shares your vibe and interests. ā€¢ volunteer for student-led initiatives. taking part in projects or community service can show you a side of your peers that you wouldn't normally see in a lecture hall. ā€¢ look into mentoring programs or campus counseling services. many unis offer support that not only helps with academic stress but also with social challenges. sometimes, sharing your struggles with someone who understands can be incredibly reassuring. ā€¢ consider creating a little interest group of your own if you notice others who feel similarly isolated. even a small, informal study or discussion group can help you forge lasting bonds.
5. ā‹†. š™š Ėšreframing challenges into growth experiencesā‹†. š™š Ėš
itā€™s natural to feel disheartened when you face exclusion or cold responses. but often, these challenges are little nudges guiding you to develop a thicker skin and a stronger sense of self. try out these reframing ideas:
ā€¢ view each uncomfortable encounter as a step towards personal growth. every time you overcome social hurdles, youā€™re building resilience and learning more about yourself. ā€¢ remember that some peopleā€™s unfriendliness is more about their own insecurities than any shortcomings on your part. their behavior says more about them than it does about you. ā€¢ channel any negative energy you encounter into creative or academic pursuits. write down your thoughts, doodle your feelings, or even consider a blog post about your journey. creativity is a wonderful way to turn pain into something beautiful. ā€¢ celebrate your uniqueness. the qualities that set you apart are what make you valuable. sometimes, itā€™s exactly those differences that will eventually attract the right people into your life. ā€¢ let every difficult experience remind you of the person you are becoming. each challenge faced is a victory in building your inner power and empathy.
6. ā‹†. š™š Ėšpersonal rituals that keep you groundedā‹†. š™š Ėš
i believe in creating a few personal rituals to help navigate the ups and downs of uni life. these little practices can serve as anchors on days when everything feels overwhelming:
ā€¢ before class, take a quiet moment to enjoy a comforting cup of coffee or tea. let that be a moment just for you, a time to gather your thoughts and breathe. ā€¢ keep a small token or journal with you. it could be a piece of jewelry, a lucky charm, or even a handwritten note that reminds you of your intrinsic worth. whenever you feel isolated, hold that token and feel the support it symbolizes. ā€¢ make a mini ā€œpositivity checklistā€ for turbulent days: 1. take three deep breaths. 2. text or call a friend from your trusted circle. 3. quickly jot down one thing youā€™re proud of from the day. 4. give yourself a moment to reflect on a past success. ā€¢ if ever the weight of anxiety feels too heavy, try a quick self-soothing exercise like stretching or taking a brisk walk between classes. little bursts of movement can reset your mind. ā€¢ remind yourself that self-care isnā€™t selfish! itā€™s essential. investing time in nurturing your well-being pays off in your academic life and beyond.
ā‹†Ėš šœ—šœšĖšā‹†final thoughts & encouragementā‹†Ėš šœ—šœšĖšā‹†
i know how overwhelming it can feel rn when every class and group project seems to amplify your insecurities. but darling, every challenge is also a lesson in disguise. use these moments as opportunities to cultivate your strengths, build resilience, and discover new facets of yourself. your uni journey is uniquely yours, sprinkled with little moments of growth, learning, and even unexpected joy. sometimes, the journey might seem rocky, but every bump is teaching you how to rise a little higher each time.
remember, you are not alone. even in moments where you feel isolated, your inner strength and your supportive circle are there to hold you up. take these strategies at your own pace, experiment with what feels right for you and make adjustments as needed. your story is still unfolding, and every challenge you overcome adds another beautiful chapter.
sending you the biggest virtual hug and all the good vibes!! keep shining in your own unique way and know that these hurdles are just stepping stones to an even brighter future. i hope these detailed tips bring you some comfort and clarity, and if you ever need to chat or dive into more ideas, feel free to send more asks!! remember to take care of yourself and keep believing in your incredible journey!!

- I kind of struggled today when it came to studying not gonna lie. Iā€™ve enjoyed going back into my workbooks and taking notes/studying from those instead of repeatedly taking practice tests, but I feel like I still have trouble applying what Iā€™ve learned
- I got through two chapters again, one in my PowerScore Logical Reasoning Bible about resolve the paradox questions, and one in my PowerScore Reading Comprehension Bible which I havenā€™t touched in a while cuz I feel like reading comprehension is my strong suit already
- I then decided to try and complete a logical reasoning practice section on LawHub, but I really struggled to get through it and didnā€™t do great when I ended up finishing it and seeing my results
- Idk if Iā€™m burned out or what; I was on such a roll earlier this month and improving exponentially but now I feel like Iā€™ve regressed
- Itā€™s frustrating to feel like all my studying is not paying off even though I know it has in some respects because Iā€™ve been doing well on some practice sections/exams. UGH why canā€™t things just be easy. I hate whoever invented this test lol
- Iā€™m thinking of maybe using flash cards/quizlet with each question type on a card and tips/tricks I can use to approach them. I tend to memorize things better that way so maybe thatā€™ll help
- I canā€™t let this test defeat me I am determined to beat it. I know I can get there I just have to be patient (which is not a strong suit of mine lol)
- I hope everyone is having a great day!

I've gone back to school and just finished a semester of software engineering.
I did well - better than I ever have in school, but partly because the subject matter was something I consider either.
The other reason for my success, I assume, has been using a combination of using note-taking in Obsidian (typing Markdown notes is much faster than how I did it in OneNote) and planning with Notion.
Actually, now that I think about it, I think the biggest reason for my success has simply been being on ADHD medication.
Either way, I keep wanting to make formal write-ups of how I use these note-taking platforms, but I keep putting them off. I so badly want to infodump on the various plugins and tricks I use to make good notes. Maybe I will here, but maybe I won't.

11.7.24
- today was a pretty good day. I attended the online student experiences panel for the University of Maryland Carey Law early this afternoon. Hearing from current students was great; the way they described the whole culture of the school and the clinic opportunities really appealed to me
- I also finally finished reading the entirety of my PowerScore Logical Reasoning Bible! It feels good to have gotten through all that; I now feel like Iā€™m ready to put all my focus on practice tests and applying what Iā€™ve learned
- Iā€™ve also come to the decision that Iā€™m going to wait another year before applying to law school. I think this is the smartest/best decision for me. I want to make sure my applications are the best that they can be, and right now I feel like I definitely need more time to ensure that. Plus I plan on hopefully finding a job soon, so the more time I have to save money the better
- also today I got into contact with some professors from my university who said they would write me letters of recommendation just to let them know whatā€™s going on. I heard back from two of them who said theyā€™d still be willing to still write me a letter. I was worried that too much time had passed since I last spoke with them and they would have changed their minds, but Iā€™m glad theyā€™re still willing to write for me
- tomorrow is the day before the LSAT. I will probably take a full practice test and see what my score is looking like. Now that Iā€™m giving myself more time to get my score where I want, I donā€™t feel too much pressure to do perfectly
- hope everyoneā€™s having a great day!!
