my academic journey (warning: i ranted) -
so ever since i started school till about the end of 8th grade i was always a 90%+/straight A student. the kind of child my classmates & cousins would be compared too. not trying to glamorize comparison btw, i personally think that's really toxic & pressurizing. so yeah, i was a "good" quiet kid. i listened attentively in class and submitted all my homework on time. the only complain teachers had about me was that i was "too quiet" but that wasn't a real issue. i was just shy but talkative with my few friends yano. i spent the entirety of 7th grade & most of 8th grade in online classes so my habits of studying went to shit. still somehow managed 91% in my 8th grade finals. and then 9th began and it all went downhill. teachers kept saying 'next year is ur board exams, u need to study a lot, etc, etc.' so if u're not from india we basically have these major 'board exams' at the end of 10th & 12th grade. but 10th boards don't really matter all that much, teachers just make a big fuss about it. 12th boards matter, but that's also the time we give college entrance exams and that sorta matters more according to most ppl. n yeah, idk what happened but i got overwhelmed. i could no longer just do well in class and study before exams and get good marks. i felt dumb. my grades didn't see a single improvement. i honestly gave up in the middle of it all and got sick of school. and at one point, it became less burn out & more clinging to the familiarity of not doing anything. i became lazy. and i became a hypocrite. i'd always tell myself, this time i'm gonna study, this time i'm gonna score well. well that 'this time' never came. 10th grade got even worse and i scored 73% in my board exams because i barely studied at all. at the same time, my relationship with my parents has constantly been unraveling. and i saw just how much of their 'pride' was dependent on me being the kid they could show off and smile widely when others replied 'wow she's going places'. my father can't hold a single conversation with me now that doesn't go back to me being a disappointment. and now i'm the kid who has to listen to her parents compare her to others. 'be like her, your friend', they say. halfway though 11th rn and i guess what?? still no fucking improvement. but the thing is i know this is the last straw. i can feel it. i got around 64% in my first tests (pa-1) of 11th. haven't gotten mid term results yet but i'm estimating just above 50%. and the thing is it's not that i can't score well. i know my potential all too well. i know i can score such high marks. but the problem is i don't study. if i just studied a couple hours every day, i can easily manage above 80%. with constant improvement i can manage above 90% again. but i don't. and that's ending right this instant. i'm not gonna turn into an academic weapon overnight or smth ik that. but i'm gonna start slowly but surely working hard. i have big dreams, i know i can achieve them if i just put in the effort. plans have been made, all i need to do is execute them. execute my laziness. i'm gonna get better. i'm gonna prove everyone who thinks i'm never gonna do it wrong, and i'm gonna prove myself right. this comeback will be for me, my inner child. the little kid in me deserves to not wind up a washed-out failure.
academic goals! -
pa-2 - 75-80%
11th finals - 80-85%
12th pa-1 - above 90%
uni - iiser (college for pure science research, bs + ms integrated)

- I kind of struggled today when it came to studying not gonna lie. I’ve enjoyed going back into my workbooks and taking notes/studying from those instead of repeatedly taking practice tests, but I feel like I still have trouble applying what I’ve learned
- I got through two chapters again, one in my PowerScore Logical Reasoning Bible about resolve the paradox questions, and one in my PowerScore Reading Comprehension Bible which I haven’t touched in a while cuz I feel like reading comprehension is my strong suit already
- I then decided to try and complete a logical reasoning practice section on LawHub, but I really struggled to get through it and didn’t do great when I ended up finishing it and seeing my results
- Idk if I’m burned out or what; I was on such a roll earlier this month and improving exponentially but now I feel like I’ve regressed
- It’s frustrating to feel like all my studying is not paying off even though I know it has in some respects because I’ve been doing well on some practice sections/exams. UGH why can’t things just be easy. I hate whoever invented this test lol
- I’m thinking of maybe using flash cards/quizlet with each question type on a card and tips/tricks I can use to approach them. I tend to memorize things better that way so maybe that’ll help
- I can’t let this test defeat me I am determined to beat it. I know I can get there I just have to be patient (which is not a strong suit of mine lol)
- I hope everyone is having a great day!

╰┈➤ 1/100 days of productivity 💌
First day of this new adventure! So excited to begin.
My deadline for the application at the Academy of Fine Arts is September 15th, and I have to submit a motivational letter and a portfolio showcasing my best works and abilities, so I really need to work on some brand new projects today and the thing I'm enjoying the most right now is making posters!
I also need to plan my week in advance to stay organised and be productive, so I'm setting up my tasks on Google Calendar since I'm rediscovering it haha
Here's my to-do list for today and what I've accomplished so far:
Write a motivational letter for my application at the Academy of Fine Arts
Plan my entire week (wip)
Design a poster
Clean my desk
Draft my future posts (yay)

Just received back the grade for the first exam I took – incidentally also the one I cared the most for, the one I studied the most for, and the one I thought went better (so far). It’s a B.
I’m obviously extremely disappointed. Granted, only 5 people got an A – but I wanted to be among those five. I also thought I genuinely did well. I wouldn’t have been too surprised if I got a B on the other exams, which I think went worse. But this one, I thought I covered everything I needed to and I can’t think of ways in which I could have improved my grade. I will request an explanation (because apparently you don’t get one if you don’t ask? and no solutions have been posted), and while getting one could help me for the future, it doesn’t change the current situation. It means that once again, I’m mediocre.
I was hoping to get straight As, but clearly that won’t be the case. Yet, grades matter for my thesis supervisor application & for the exchange application & for applying to take PhD courses as part of my master’s & also for future PhD applications. Why am I even here if I’m not getting As? I don’t want to hear any ‘grades don’t matter’ bullshit, because grades do matter in my context – especially this one, in a course on a topic related to what I want to do my PhD about, in my first semester (on which all future applications will rely on). I don’t know what to do.
#i mean i know what to do in the short term because i have an exam today and one on Thursday and a flight to catch#but more broadly#p#tbd#maybe?#academic journey#studyblr

11.4.24
- I couldn’t study for the past couple days because I was actually being social and hanging out with friends (shocker) but I’m back at it again today! I felt refreshed after my break and ready to tackle LSAT problems
- I read and took notes from a chapter in my PowerScore Logical Reasoning Bible which focused on method of reasoning questions
- I struggled a little with the practice problems, but I think I have a good understanding of how to approach these types of problems going forward
- I then took a practice logical reasoning section and did ok; for all the sections I’ve been doing I’ve been getting about the same amount of questions wrong, which is both positive and negative. It’s great that I’m not getting more problems than usual wrong, but I wish I was making more progress at a faster rate since the November LSAT for me is this Saturday
- to manage how overwhelming and boring studying can be sometimes, I’ve been taking more breaks in-between to do stuff I enjoy. It really helps to break up my study sessions this way. Today I read a chapter in a nonfiction book I’ve been reading for fun which was a great palate cleanser
- tomorrow I’ll be back to studying, probably going through the next PowerScore chapter which focuses on flaw in the reasoning questions which I’ve struggled with. hopefully I’ll also be able to take another full or partial practice test
- I also can’t believe the election is tomorrow it’s a little mind-boggling. idk how well I’ll be able to focus on studying with all that going on tbh 😅 but we will see what happens
- hope everyone is having a great day!
