Will of Rebellion.

I want to dip upon this aspect a bit more as a generalized deep dive when it comes to the Persona users 'Potential'. There's always a distinct theme for each part of the series I notice when it comes to this. From my proper look over of P5, I'd like to propose that the shape this potential takes is 'To cast off all shackles', this alone taking a very broad definition. Potential within this field denies all forces that attempts to control them.

It's why within this particular vein of Persona users, there's a brand of unity in how the bond is shown. You never really see a Shadow self from this generation of users due the merge amidst their awakening. When each 'Contract' is established, they undergo a process that creates synchronization, melding with the shadow in a way forsakes the normal duality of conscious/unconscious. They need to reach a height of spiritual/mental state to step upon a 'trigger', becoming a force that rebels becomes perfectly fitting for this. It's often why you see the shadow become a mask, and soon, how the entire outfit becomes an additional form to signify the success of the union.

This is why the prime breeding ground for these transformations takes place in realms of over-saturated desire, so potent in fact that in normal cases, it threatens to bring a film over reality itself. (Better known as Palaces) Palaces by nature are realms that hold their own unique danger, constantly exerting an influence to turn anything into a part of the structure itself, either as a servant or other twisted variants. While the Will of Rebellion have diverts these effects entirely, I believe anyone who awakened the Potential have vastly increased resistance, just a more conscious awareness of what these collective worlds/Mementos attempt to do..

Akin to any other awakening, this creates both advantages and drawbacks. One particular you can note is how this generation of Persona wielders have some really violent tendencies. From how I HC it, this new connection with the user's shadow draws upon darker, more animalistic natures in tandem with their regular resolve in all that both sides learned, giving them both the mental fortitude to better endure sickening places they'd have to explore. A constant battle to retain control at this point becomes highly pivotal.

A failsafe of sorts is generated to assist with this, better known as the chains you constantly find constraining their Personas. Its an inhibitor for their potential on one hand, but also a defensive mechanism as demonstrated by examples Akechi made.

The biggest risk to this deep dive is ultimately losing yourself. An easy price to power remains and can be taken, but it forsakes consciousness in order to become an unbridled, maddened mass of power. While the chains can be removed at a point, it's only after undergoing rigorous growth through trials. This price could be reflective of Persona 3's cast having their Persona fight against them if the situation was displayed. Except, due to this melded state with their shadows, they'd instead find themselves melting away in that loss of control.

The Phantom Thieves as a force I see are drawn upon 'Chaos' on the Order/Chaos dichotomy. Gaining this ability to rob away desires through this rebellious will is stripping away assets of humanity from their targets, no matter how deplorable. In order to combat an unfair game, they've developed a skill which no shadow can fight against.

As for how vast the heights of this will can become? The God of Control manipulated all of Mementos/The Collective Unconscious to 'forget the Phantom Thieves', ultimately bringing them into a state beyond death, they simply never existed at all. It only gained this power after fusing to it as the Holy Grail. Yet, they each managed not only to regain their identity through their showdown with the malevolent god, they've ultimately managed reclaim their existence and go beyond, tearing away the power the false god seized and transforming that might into it's curtain call.

I feel like kinji’s a "my girlfriend can wear whatever she wants because I can fight" kind of guy, mixed with "you’re just staring and I’m hittin' that"

he’d probably tell you to stfu if you ever doubted yourself or you guys’ relationship because he firmly believes nothing can come between you two.

hakari will randomly pull you closer to him, holding your head up and kissing you.

he literally takes up the whole bed and you’re fighting for your life with the weight of his body almost crushing you.

hakari is so dominant in a non-sexual way, I swear; he’d put his hand on your back to lead you, and he’d say no in a stern but caring way, telling you to "come here" when he wants you.

the man knows how to hold eye contact, he never leaves your gaze and knows what it does to you.

he’s so close to you all the time, only inches away from your face when he speaks to you, of course, he’s taller, which makes him bend down most of the time.

I feel like you’d be able to have a mature and stable relationship with kinji. he’d ask you upfront if you were upset about something he did, and correct it immediately. you guys wouldn’t hide how you feel to each other, because he doesn’t have time to play around the problem. he’s pretty assertive.

you don’t have to ask even once for him to either distance himself from another girl, or when you see someone being too flirty with him. he knows it and has no interest in them whatsoever.

kinji’s faithful. between managing his fight club and spending time with you, he doesn’t have much time to think about anything else.

he may come off as rude at first, but you quickly learn he has a kind heart and will never let you give up on any dreams that you might have, pushing you to achieve them. he’ll even help you, making sure you’re not discouraged.

kinji saw this fever in you, and won’t let you go, ever since. you’re stuck with him. ♡

One thing that I’ve been thinking about is a possible route(?) this story could go, and that is Spamton’s trip to the Ambyu-Lances’s office. And boy do I feel bad for the Addisons because it’s gonna be hell on earth for all of em. Spamton has the mentality of a feral cat and this feral cat is going to the vet in the first time in forever. I don’t think Spamton is a big fan of large syringes, and when you have one of those chasing you down because well, look at him. He’s a walking talking corrupted program. If masters his glitches like Survey says, I can totally see him glitching through the doctors to make his grand escape™️. I feel like all the Addisons are gonna have to be here for both moral support, as well as making sure that he doesn’t attack his doctor. (Maybe they’ll sedate him a little? I know that’s what some hospitals do with rowdy-er patients LMAO, but then the Addisons have a whole new problem on their hands because now Spamton is high as a mf kite or something 😭) the last time I was under anesthesia my doctor said I wouldn’t stop laughing until I burst out into uncontrollable sobs and then I immediately blacked out💀

god a trip to the doctors office would be hell in a handbasket for this guy ;v; because he 100% has the energy of a feral cat finally being checked out

though i think once he gets closer to the addisons he'd agree to go, just to see if he can be set back to normal (spoiler alert: he can't cuz fate has handed his ass the bad luck card from square one) but he immediately regrets it and the addisons have to calm him down

them sedating him would probably be the best course of action as to actually get ANY results (because he will bite and attack on instinct hfjkkdjfkks)

one of my biggest pet peeves with the bloodborne fanbase (from reading fics, mostly) is that everyone assumes that gender roles in yharnam were the same as gender roles in irl victorian england

...but this is textually not true. yes bloodborne is heavily inspired by victorian england but it's definitely not exactly the same. for starters, obviously, yharnamites worship eldritch gods which isn't at all in line with the cultural values informed by following christianity (i dont think i need to elaborate on what i mean by this)

the most obvious low hanging fruit example is vicar amelia, who is laurence's successor and current head of the healing church... and a woman, something that would never be allowed in victorian england era christianity (and honestly isnt even allowed today in many denominations)

the other which is slightly more obscure but even more valuable is that yharnamites are, in-canon, heavily inspired by the culture of the pthumerians. whether yharnam was literally built in the name of pthumerian queen yharnam or if it was simply named after her later is unclear, but the yharnamites evidently hold pthumerian society in high regard. and the pthumerians were almost certainly a matriarchy (female rulers, and only women were embalmed in coffins). i think of pthumerian to yharnam the way one might think of what rome was to the european countries later influenced by it.

other little things are:

the existence of gratia: an old hunter who was a woman renowned for her physical prowess. not very "womanly", yet clearly exalted by the church; item description refers to her as heroic

clothing details: most clothing items have very little differences between male and female hunters. most notable that does off the top of my head is that the church set for women has stiletto heels, which i think falls in line with my belief that most women of the church were blood saints. nevertheless, you do fight a pair of female church hunters in the dlc who seem to have no issue kicking your ass in said heels. this could be said to be due to game dev laziness, but importantly there are sets that Do have gender differences (like the cainhurst set...)

cainhurst: cainhurst is commonly pointed out by fans as the "odd one out" for its matriarchal vibes, so people assume yharnam must not have been. i agree, but that still doesnt mean yharnam had the same gender roles as the ones we have irl. in fact if anything, theres a distinct lack of emphasis placed on gender in cainhurst item descriptions or even alfred's hateful ramblings; although we assign misogynist intent to him, pointedly what he (and item descriptions) take most issue with isnt the #feminism, but rather cainhurst's obsession with nostalgia and bombast.

this isnt to say that yharnam had No gender roles. it did. just Different ones. (and im not saying it was a matriarchy either btw.) the existence of blood saints indicates that women likely were relegated to religious roles in yharnam. women who could not become blood saints probably became hunters of the church. characters like yurie also show that amelia wasnt an isolated case; women also comprised some amount of choir members as well, indicating that they likely regularly held high positions within the church hierarchy. additionally, lady maria being one of the byrgenwerth scholars indicates that women were allowed as students alongside their male peers, even if they may have been less common. all of these things are markedly different from how victorian gender dynamics were.

its just a bummer because i actually think the gender dynamics of bloodborne are super unique and interesting and are way more nuanced than a simple "women and men swap roles" type thing. but then all these fans who claim to be bloodborne loreheads just supplant irl victorian england gender roles into yharnam and call it a day when that is like... at best lazy/uninspired and at worst directly contrary to canon.

i rly mean no hate ofc (ive even enjoyed reading fics that include such things, even if i disagree with them heavily) and im happy to discuss these thoughts further, i just want to draw attention to smth about the bloodborne lore that i think is sadly overlooked because, when it comes to bloodborne and its feminine themes, ppl get much more caught up on the more overt pregnancy symbolism (which is understandable, but doesnt exist in isolation of the above). i have a lot more to say on this topic but this post is already getting long enough so ill just stop there lol

Usually I wouldn’t gaf about this and move on but two times have i seen a character that the western part of fandom has a large group of people headcanoning them as trans getting informed about a mistranslation or misinterpretation that lead the group of people headcanoning that character as trans even harder have some random ass mfs go “see they’re not transgender 😂😂 westerners always trying to make them woke 😂😂 tired of these western fans not understanding cultural differences 😂😂 now theyre gonna start calling you transphobic be careful op 😂😂” when the original post never even denied that headcanon and was simply spreading information…. @goopi-e Well let's see… where should I start? The mass assumption that Ganondorf just sort of left his kingdom for dead and stayed holed up in Hyrule Castle for seven entire years, (lolwut???) no longer caring about his fellow gerudos or even letting them know what the hell was going on?

Or something else? Maybe something a little dicier? Like the existence of gibdos? Or the fact he didn't save Nabooru after his moms decided her punishment? ... That last one might be a little self explanatory, though, if you understand his mindset.

Ganondorf is a man with a very strong sense of justice and a very skewed sense of morality. I think it's actually because he cared that he'd ever punish or let his people be punished like she was. Twinrova were his mothers too, so, it's likely he trusted their judgement more than anyone else's. A lower ranking pair of gerudo might not have gotten away with dealing justice in his name like that.

But I digress. I know I have to be missing something. I'm just very tired today and have a lot on my mind. Do feel free to let me know, though, if any of that interests you or if there's another thing I forgot to address that you want me to go into.

Awakening Stages.

So! I'd like to actually divert to the more old school brand of Persona awakenings. I'd like for set stages of the story itself to be a pivotal catalyst for the evolution that Ryuji's inner self proceeds to take. While they'll still hold in their respective parts of the story, I want it to highlight two different branches of his growth. So let's begin with his 2nd awakening of Seiten Taisei.

Seiten.

For this point of the story, I'd imagine that the tipping point of drawing deeper in his potential takes place at Futaba's palace. Her personalized hell was the sort that scratched at a certain, all too sore reality of his own life. The loss of a parent (radically different means), the lack of strength to go on, not to mention the assault of higher powers subjugating with these hellish stretches of emotion. Within this point, the desperate reach Ryuji's making with Phantom Thief work is to become something greater, to kick, punch and yell at the very idea that he's doomed to whatever mediocrity society dictates.

Even with the onsets of glory really beginning to cloud his mind and vision, this particular plight resonated with the true heart of what sparked his potential. Ryuji's desire wasn't to simply make sure no one else repeated stories like theirs, beyond that, the goal was to ensure that each and every person that struggled, falls and wallows could get the fire to get up and get pissed. (In a more refined state, to find the strength to persist, and to learn they're not alone.)

That said. He still holds some pivotal points of improvement he needs to see too. With his case, despite his Persona finding the resolve to draw into this new form amidst the struggles of her palace, it's 'short lived' so to speak. The intensity of that feeling doesn't truly lay anchor and becomes invested within himself, leading to the reversion back to Kidd, and a growing sense of frustration that his power isn't working right and agreeing. This in itself can make a pretty fun arc as it plays on his fears of falling behind.

Fast forward things to Okumura's palace and it'd be after his fight and reconciliation with Morgana, a hard look at his glory chasing habits, and a firm stance against his once overflowing greed to just have power, influence and more successes that Seiten truly draws back into his consciousness, properly manifesting itself as Ryuji's resolution. Where he truly hunkers down that the reason he wanted to be so great, was to ensure it was a safe beacon for others, that it was strength that the less fortunate and the innocently damned could depend on having in their corner. ____

William.

If the desire to find that inner greatness and become strong to protect is what allowed Seiten to manifest.

For William's transformation during Maruki's arc, it'd be the realization that his history and experiences, both positive and hellish creates who he is. Ryuji can't be forgotten in this process of becoming The Greater.

This is best reflected in his stage of awakening from the bliss induced affects of Maruki's reality. During this state, the power to even tap into Persona was sealed, locked away due his conscious perception. Right now, the sorely envisioned wishes he held were a reality. A good family, a non-drunkard of an abusive father, Kamoshida's existence being handled early so he could keep his original cast of track members, his old friends he grew up with since elementary.

Such a good part of him, bubbling under the surface, shameless, had never been more ready to throw all the pain and agony away in order let this nostalgia induced fantasy become his new life. It was based on an innocent wish, for things to be okay, to just not have to worry about so much shit as he gets a future as an Olympic level track star, to help his folks out due how much he loves them. It smothered the Flame of Rebellion as the pain that served as its kindled found itself veiled over.

In its place? Bliss. Emptiness. What his Persona left was a hollow pang that felt strange, festering and no amount of Maruki's newly established dominion could scratch away where that potential once rested.

This leads into an arc in itself as certain memories manage to breach through the growing webbed cracks of his heart. The purpose behind his hurt, what made him get so unnaturally brave and decide to willingly face the depravity stuck within the heads of bastards and the sorrowful alike. Amidst this good future, the unknown price was to strip away what his heart truly desired and intended to follow through in doing. In many ways, what he's doing now is the form of indulgence that previous Palace rulers did in his mind, less of the depraved, but the innate stealing of what good futures some fought for.

Amidst realizing this, and understanding the twisted weight that Maruki's reality created as hopeful opportunities for those in situations leagues more hellish than his own, it clicks to him that this responsible part of himself couldn't be cast off. No amount of great goods should betray the roots of what started this fire.

Thus, Seiten found itself melding together with the lost potential of Captain Kidd, giving rise to William.

It turned into the great power that always rested in himself all along.

A potential was defined solely as Ryuji from the very beginning. To carry that, means to carry his true history.

I finally finished grabbing caps and I'm still sobbing at how similar Michiru & Musashi are to Seiroku & Soma... this is identical to how it went when Seiroku was embarrassed that he never attended a festival before and Soma laughed at him about it which ended up lessening the tension... it's the same even down to the "You laughed!"

I read your Mario Lore/Headcanons dump fic on AO3 and it was!!!! SO GOOD!!!!!! And so cool???? The Luma Luma life cycle the Stars being gods the inclusion of the Thunder and Fire dudes from Super star Saga, the Power up list, but mostly the Mushroom/Koopa kingdom backstories!!! Thousands of years of war ended because some guys were bad parents! Amazing!!

Okay anyway about the Borealis Kingdom!! Rosalina was the princess! Her parents were King Vega and Queen Rosetta (yes I stole that from Rosie’s Japanese name nxbcjscbs), and I don’t have a name for her brother yet rip x^x. I don’t have much info on the people themselves, just that they worshipped the Stars and made ritual wishes to them frequently. The kingdom fell shortly after Rosalina was called into space. Like, probably within a decade or so.

The relations between the Borealis and Koopa Kingdoms were neutral for the most part. They weren’t enemies, though they didn’t consider each other allies either. Tensions could’ve easily rose at any time, but it never happened. During this time, the Fire God was still active in the Koopa Kingdom, so the Koopas were perfectly content with life and showed no interest in relations with other kingdoms.

Goombas and Toads are both native to the Borealis Kingdom and its surrounding areas, but their populations only began to grow substantially following the kingdom’s fall.

…And that’s all I’ve got! I don’t have too much info on pre-modern era stuff, but I hope you enjoy this small amount of info nonetheless ^^”
