#AU: Remnants of Despair 78

Even though I really like Remnants Class 78 as an AU, It gets kind of boring when the same formula is repeated without much of a proper twist to the roleswap (based on my experience from a few years ago)

As much as it might make sense for Junko to put Makoto through a death trap like she would do to Chiaki in canon. In truth, I feel Makoto would simply survive it by sheer accident. If he were to step in a trap, his luck would make him trip, and a spike would just narrowly miss his head.

Makoto's luck is entirely dependent on keeping him alive in the long run. He trips and misses the wrench that Junko throws at him. He gets a busted door that eliminates him from suspension of being Sayaka's murder. Alter Ego shows up and saves him from execution. What I'm trying to get at is that he's more likely to have a higher morality rate compared to Chiaki, and straight up killing him isn't gonna be simple.

In short, give him Remnant rights or we'll have a problem/j

Ugh, why does nobody talk about class 78 as the remnants like they would be so strong. Like you have people like chihiro, sayaka, mondo, kiyotaka, byakuya, and Sakura there who will carry everyone, and still everyone else could still be crazy good. Heck, even some like kyoko. Personally, I have trouble finding what she would do, but still, she could lead on fake cases. Makoto could do what monoka did when giving her speech to the monokumas, ect, like omg. Like, I always see an AU with V3, but THH would be wayyyyyy too overpowered. Like in the show I'd say 1. Have chihiro and Makoto be the first ones brainwashed into despair. Chihiro could easily make the despair video with ai and I say Makoto because he's the most hopeful of the class and like the glue for them so have the one person who keeps the class together fall into despair and rub onto everyone else will make everyone fall under it (plus taunting them with past trauma/insecurities and the despair ai video). Like Sakura and mondo are terrifying they're so physically strong same with aoi like she could make a swimming league to guard the coast of the seas. Like celestia could use the money she gets from gambling to fund those crazy executions like in the games to creativity execute people. Makoto knows how to put up a debate and convince people and add that with despair could easily get followers and his luck could turn good for him (i.e like he does something then something desaterious happened around him) so good for him because despair but bad for eveyone else. Toko and hifumi i saw someone say that they could make fake news so nobody would trust the news. kiyotaka could take over and then a whole ahhh dictatorship going on. Chihiro could hack into the future foundation AND governments. sayaka is soooo popular she's the Beyonce and Taylor swift of danganronpa. Like yes class 77 was crazy but the fact that basically all of class 78 is so famous and they all have talents/abilities/power to do all that is insane.

Taka's (initial) fall to despair in Fallen Leaves, watching his lover being (seemingly) tortured to death while he's literally paralyzed and unable to do anything.

Also I think as a twistedly sweet way Makoto showed his undying loyalty (yes in romantic context) towards kirigiri is by burning his own left hand for her. She watched and even got some small burns along her jawline and on her cheek abit (Byakuya is jealous about this yes <3)

Remember— these are just ideas to help with brainstorming, you are not limited to interpreting the prompts in just these ways. 

Family: You could choose to interpret this as being in relation family members (canon or head cannoned) for a scenario like meeting the in-laws; or them building one of their own (with pets, fan kids, v3 kid AUs, etc). Another angle could be a reflection on their own childhoods, with a focus on their family life/dynamics to tie it back to the prompt.

Dates: Quite a few options to go with, off the top of my head: first dates, blind dates, double/group date, fake dating, or even a study date lol. This could also be interpreted in the sense of important dates like birthdays, anniversary, etc.

Promise: This one might be a tad bit easier on the writers since all you'd need to really do to meet the prompt is throw in one 'promise between men', but you can definetly get creative with it. You could go a more canon route of 'I'll build your house bro' or 'We'll get out of the killing game alive' to anything else you could think of, big or small— perhaps even broken promises (as serious or silly as you'd like, e.g. 'you promised you'd stop speeding')

Sickness: Just a few ideas besides a literal cold— lovesickness (figurative or more literal like a hanahaki AU), a despair disease scenario, or a mental health day.

Roleswap: Anything that generally swaps the canon role would apply here. So Protagonist AUs, Mastermind AU, Survivor/Future Foundation AUs would all be applicable here. Remnants of Despair AUs may also apply, see the elaboration given in the Talentswap section.

Seasons: Take this as liberally as you'd like. Focus on one season or all; focus on seasonal activities like going to the beach, a seasonal school vacation; or a seasonal holiday/festival, just to offer a few different ways you could try and meet this prompt. 

Competition: With how competitive these two are, hopefully this won't end being too restrictive. Be this between the two of them, one rooting for the other for sports/other extracurricular activities, or a double date scenario with someone as competitively spirited. You could also stick to more canon moments for reference like the Sauna Scene or the race between Mondo and Daiya.

Future: You could do something with Futuristic themes like cyborgs/androids/etc. Or more broadly approach the prompt with discussions of the future (v3 talentplan style), or in settings where they're older (be that 30 or 80, however you wish to interpert it). 

Talentswaps: The difference from the roleswap Is that the former implies the talent isn't changed, just the role within the story. A talentswap may change several factors, but most notably the talent. So whether you're swapping just the talents between the THH cast or swapping game premises as well (e.g. v3 au with SHSL Inventor Oowada), all of that would be better suited here. Remnants of Despair AUs could go here if it's a talent swap that includes SDR2's general premise, but if the talents were to remain the same AND the concept to be (for example) that Junko chose Class 78 over 77 to brainwash, then that could fall under a Roleswap instead.

Gifts: This should hopefully be easier to achieve as a prompt, but this could be around any kind of celebration involving gifting (birthdays, holidays, etc.), or just a general occasion of wanting to get a gift. Maybe focusing on having difficulty with finding a present, etc.

Confessions: This could be anything from a love confession, or a completely innocuous thing like— oops, I’m the asshole that has been in your parking spot bc I’m dyslexic and thought it was mine meet cute(?). Perhaps it could be one of them receiving a love confession and the reaction around it.

Soulmates: Since I know there are quite a few ideas people have come up with over the years for soulmate AUs, I think this one should also not be too difficult (hopefully).

You could also go more straightforward with red string of fate concepts for soulmates as well, or just the idea of soulmates, not necessarily a soulmate AU if none speak to you!

outta curiosity is Makoto also a remnant in the THH remnants AU so all of class 78 are remnants, the izuru of the group like Hajime and rantaro in the RemV3 AU, or is he getting the Chiaki treatment (like in most aus)???

Okay so! Makoto definitely isn’t getting the Chiaki treatment lol, at this point there aren’t plans for any of the class to die (I think at least, I vaguely remember CircusComics suggesting somebody but I can’t recall who lol).

Makoto is a bit of an interesting case though, he’s affiliated with the remnants and officially part of the team, but he’s not really in despair. He’s stuck around this long because he cares about his friends and wants to keep them safe, but he doesn't experience despair the same way the others do. His Ultimate Hope powers have meant he could avoid the brunt of Junko’s brainwashing and manipulation, but she (up until locking herself in Hopespeak with class 77) and the other thh kids have still been trying to get Makoto into despair.

He’s usually on house arrest at their main base so Kyoko (the de facto leader once Junko dies) can keep an eye on him, and the only times he actually gets to leave is when he’s visiting with the rest of the class wherever they are, but he doesn’t really get to ever be unaccompanied by at least one remnant, just incase he got any bright ideas about contacting the Future Foundation.

The reason the remnants aren’t being more proactive in trying to force Makoto into despair is pretty early on Hagakure used his talent to look into the future about it, and saw that eventually Makoto was going to be in despair, so it was just a matter of waiting.

Now as for Kamakura, you’re right that it’s not Hajime this time around. Still someone with ties to class 77, and someone from the reserve course, someone who believed she deserved to be in the main course, that she was just as talented and important as her big brother…

Hi! It's Dani again! Today I'll be responding to old Asks/Inbox messages I've received! (and never answered.. :')) All of these asks will be anonymous as most of these asks date back A YEAR AGO, so just in case, nobody will be mentioned for the sake of privacy. But with that out of the way, let's get into the yapping!!

Yes! Every remnant are given Monokuma's based off themselves. Their Monokuma counterparts are made to assist the remnants in any situation, however they are mainly dependent on the specific remnants job.

Oh sweetie, K:M* and K:O* wouldn't last even a minute with each other. Their rivalry (if you can even call it that..) is so violent, there were times where Junko and M:T* had to go out of their way to split them up, and deal with the aftermath of their shenanigans.

At least that’s how I see it in my universes:

1) The first are Lord Tanaka and assistant Hiro;

2) The second are Hagakure, the kidnapper and victim of Gundham."

1) Y:H* at first found G:T* very eccentric, and at the very least very loud and obnoxious. In fact he mainly disliked Gundham due to the fact that his animals were constantly running around and being disruptive. (Something Yasuhiro GREATLY dislikes.) However the more Yasuhiro teamed up with Gundham, he's actually quite reliable. Just, ignore his over the top personality and loud voice. Hell, he's actually not that bad of a fighting partner.

2) Yasuhiro found the Future Foundation very interesting. The fact that they're trying to save "Hope," yet with little to no people? Perhaps he'll consider them as worthy opponents. But Gundham specifically? He finds him quite interesting actually. They believe in similar things, and his hamsters *are* pretty cute..

3) If Junko made Gundham and Yasuhiro battle partners, it would take a while for Hiro to get used to Gundham's tactical plans, but Yasuhiro won't deny, his tactics of using animals as weapons are.. odd, yet intriguing.

4) Hypothetically, IF Gundham had kidnapped Yasuhiro, (Before Hiro was turned remnant) Gundham would most likely use his animals as torment Yasuhiro, and try to pry intel out of him. But if (somehow) Yasuhiro was able to resist Gundhams assault, perhaps he may consider him as an assistant, but any rebuttals would cost Hiro's life. (Then again he'd probably just turn him in to Junko anyway.)

Sadly I've only created two official designs for *Class 78, (Being Leon and Yasuhiro) HOWEVER I've had concepts for some more of the cast!

Wellll here's the thing.. K:O's mask is physically ATTACHED to his face, It's main purpose is to cover up an accident that happened during the first few trials of giving Kokichi small bits of the Enhancement Drug... Long story short, he got into our dynamite supply..

Although, I don't think Kokichi's messed up face would be a nice image to see..

Moments before Despair

An Au Prequal with my OCS, where they lived a normal life before the events of DR2

It's my dad's birthday so I did a quick story about the self insert's father to celebrate. He's touring the school and meeting some classmates.

He clearly has a favorite.

Read below to find out his fate in the AU

Edward Moreno's self proclaimed title is the Ultimate Dad, seeing that all his children were scouted into Hope's Peak Academy. Personality wise, he's a hard worker but can also be a bit of a partier. He dotes on his children and is very protective of them, escpecially Rizu/Liz, since a lot of her performances are dangerous, risque, or both.

Her father is a retured prison guard who became a mechanic, operating on the family's ranch back on the Mexico-American boarder and using the money to make and send care packages to his Ultimate Children (and Nephew). He came to watch his other daughter take her practical exam and prepare his only son to join class 78 at Hope's Peak. Since it was an off day, he decided to tour the campus and meet some of the students living with his daughters and nephew.

Before the tragedy, Edward only visited Hope's Peak once. He is still protective of his kids, but has symbolically adopted his children's classmates and often says to say hello to them in calls and care packages- even sending small gifts for them for their birthdays.

During the tragedy, Edward was grateful that his oldest daughter survived, and while he understood his son's choice to shelter in the school, his family had to make the hard choice to accept the "deaths" of the two kids in Class 77-B, who became the Remnants of Despair. He unfortunatly witnessed his son endure that killing game thanks to the broadcast of it worldwide.

After the events of the Killing School Life with Class 78 and his son's return, he and his siblings turned the family ranch into a shelter for their town and kept despair away from their part of the world. When his son made the painful phone call about what really happened to Edward's youngest daughter and nephew, the "Ultimate Dad" went silent, unsure if the Foundation's choice to execute them was ethical or not. He soon made the choice to refuse it, and gave the 14th division permission to do whatever it takes to save them.

While he didn't observe the Killing School Trip, he was given updates about it until they were rescued.

After the tragedy, he learned that the class banished themselves at Jabberwock Island and accepted that this was his daughter's sacrifice to the world. To this day, he still sends care packages to the island.

p.s. since the school is in Japan, the JP version of this story has the class pronouncing her name as Rizu, and also reffering to her as Riri.

Your ideas have my mind racing. In an unfortunate way (never gonna get that image of Gonta out of my head), but also in a good way. I love Evil THH Cast AU. What if killing Junko and Mukuro was their first step to tyranny? I've been watching The Boys, maybe the best show on TV right now, so naturally I started imagining a resistance team that recruits Celestia to help them kill the former Class 78-B. She’s not actually that slick (her murder plot in THH was infamously full of holes), but if she takes a few chances with the right teammates (I'm thinking SDR2 chars in an inversion of canon), they might get some things done ...

We need more Danganronpa characters as evil groups, but not the Ultimate Despair or its remnants. Too abstract. Too bland. Fuck despair. Fuck Junko. I'm either killing her off or she doesn't exist. Danganronpa villain groups completely distanced from the Ultimate Despair:

Makoto Naegi is the charismatic head of a dictatorship. Perhaps he believes this is what's best for the world. Or he just wants a throne to sit on. This is an alternative timeline, maybe he's evil here. Either way, he managed to rope in his 14 other classmates into joining him in his empire. Byakuya uses the Togami Corporation to clench Makoto's rule and fund projects wherever he can. He's also a consultant, alongside Yasuhiro Hagakure. Kyoko Kirigiri is the head of the espionage department, with Chihiro as the second-in-command and head of data management. Kiyotaka manages the police force, acting as judge, jury, and executioner. Mondo, Sakura, Aoi, and Mukuro all work in Makoto's army. Sayaka, Leon, Hifumi, and Toko work in the entertainment (or in other words, propaganda,) division. Genocider is allowed to kill any pretty boys the espionage department lets her. Celestia rules over her own chunk of land as gothic lolita queen and is arguably the loosest link, but ultimately still abides by Makoto's laws.

The Danganronpa V3 cast has been corrupted into animalistic monsters, think Steven Universe. Gonta's body has been converted into a flying hive for all manner of bugs, all sorts of flyers coming from his eyesockets and mouth carrying centipedes, spiders, and other flightless bugs so they all can feed and bring food back to the husk that was once a gentleman. Kirumi now resembles a marble statue with a blindfold over her eyes a clock on her backside, where her four arms and four legs move in orderly, yet seemingly random fashions. If you come across her, you have to play a game of following her increasingly complex commands, often akin to a game of Simon Says, or risk searing throbbing pain. Kiibo is one of the more threatening ones. With his body inorganic and unable to be distorted like the others, his mind was merely warped into malware that can possess anything with a computer inside it. This includes cell phones, calculators, thermostats, cars with built-in GPSes and cameras, etc. His body, the source of the malware, is still unknown. A two-faced gorgon obsessed with creating rudimentary-yet-effective deathtraps. A gorgeous and colorful false angel. A blob of goo that somehow knows how to use various machinery. Perhaps the three survivors are akin to the Crystal Gems here, survivors in a different sense here, the ones fighting their former friends for the sake of everyone else.

Ruruka Ando as the queen of what is essentially candyland, with Sonosuke Izayoi as her knight in sweet, delicious, and surprisingly durable armor. All citizens in her expanding country are given free sweets to devour, and those who don't are punished for their insolence.

Finally, the cast of Super Danganronpa 2 are a team of mercenaries. Evil goons for hire, as that's what they've been typecast as at this point. Maybe live has just been really harsh on them and NezumiVA was right. Or maybe this is similar to canon, where they got puppeted into evil and were eventually freed, only to annihilate their reputation by continuing to pose as villains, effectively pigeonholing themselves into evil due to society's eyes. As for what they could do: Kazuichi could build a robotic army or just machines for the lower mooks to ride on. Sonia, Fuyuhiko, and Twogami could all rule conquered provinces in the empire. Nekomaru could command minions while Akane and Peko act as elite troops. Ibuki could too, considering the lethality of her music, or she could act in espionage alongside Mahiru and Hiyoko, considering her hearing skills. Gundham could add various animals to the armada. Teruteru can produce food for the army. Mikan is literally a medic. Izuru Kamakura lives on, and is the Ultimate Ultimate. Possibly even more, considering the timeline. Nagito Komaeda is the equivalent of one of those really small cylinders of play-doh that are wider than they are tall. I can't imagine Chiaki being in the group, however. Either way, I can imagine this quirky miniboss squad having various unique interactions with our heroes, whoever they may be. I'd imagine Nekomaru would befriend the heroes in an odd way, being supportive of their strength and a fair fighter despite being on the villain's side, while Teruteru would repulse our heroes for being a sexual harasser, for example.

Also @goshdangronpa I want you to look at this, girlie. Read it all. Soak it up.

Class 78 As The Remnants Of Despair Au

I just wanted to get this idea out of there since i barely see stories of Class 78 being the Remnants Of Despair.

So how Junko would drive them into despair is by exploiting their weaknesses like say perhaps, telling Chihiro he would never be strong and will remain as a weak and small 'girl' or telling Leon he will never achieve his dream as a musician and will just be stuck as a baseball player for the rest of his life.

Even if that doesn't work Junko could always show them the despair video

(Makoto lives btw because I am biased as fuck when it comes to class 78)

Alright now let's talk about Class 77-B

I want this not just be a simple role swap and leave it there so instead of partaking in the second killing game like how Class 78 did, maybe they fake their deaths and either went into hiding or joined the Future Foundation (although they're most likely not gonna join the FF if i'm meaning honest), while know the V3 casts live in another universe it would be cool if they Junko forces them into the second killing game. Chiaki will be the protagonist and the 'Makoto' of this AU.

I don't know what else to add other than Sakakura being brainswashed instead of Chisa when he tried to apprehend Junko but that's about it really.

I don't really know what to do with Hajime/Izuru in all honesty, maybe have him help in capturing the Remnants since Chiaki is alive but that's all I can think off.

Making the class 78 remnant au abit weirder by adding weird shit😁

The rite of passage to becoming the successor of Junko Enoshima is that of a mostly bloody one. First they must bath in the blood of despairs a mix of blood from those of higher powers and some from her disciples.

Once he has been cleansed a white veil shall be placed on his head an after a special from her older sister what is left of her blood will be poured and anointed on our her new successor: Makoto Naegi.

May despair be with us all as we celebrate our new leader.
