Maci Wiki Snips - the entire backstory - part one
(eta; part two!) (part three!)
bc who tf knows if I’ll ever really finish wiki and, well, this is all written sooo💓
akaaaa
Pre-canon events & backstories: This section contains information about Maci from before the canon Elysium’verse began - events that have taken place essentially “offscreen,” but are still canonical, and even crucial, to Maci’s history. Presented as a short biography... into narrative story.
copypasted<3 so, this is all very lawng. this is basically one half of an entire novel. so I am obv putting behind a cut and splitting into multiple parts (I think just two??) so, I’ve included some of this even verbatim in that one essay about Hades and Maci a few weeks ago but this is THE WHOLE SHEBANG….. or well. Up until age 17.
CW: everything ; Hades & Thanatos and all that that means in the early stages of your standard Maci background - emotional abuse/child abuse, physical abuse, grooming, etc,
so. ahemm. maci.
Early life & childhood, ages 0 to 10
Macaria is the only child of Hades and Persephone (“Seph”), King and Queen of the Underworld. Though initially reluctant to have a child, Hades conceded at Seph’s insistence, and Maci was born in the fall, about a century after they had first been married. Arrangements were made with Demeter to allow a temporary exception to the Pomegranate Agreement that dictated Seph’s seasonal location, permitting her to remain with baby Maci and Hades in the Underworld until Maci’s 5th birthday. For 5 years, the three of them were a close-knit family, and the little Princess was showered with unbridled love and attention from her parents and their subjects. She was a hyperactive and bubbly toddler fast accustomed to having everything she ever wanted, with everyone wrapped around her fingers all the time.
When Maci was 5 and this arrangement ended, she began to travel with her mother each spring-summer season to stay with her and Demeter during the traditional six-month span. Persephone and Demeter’s springtime cottage was very different than what Maci was used to – for one thing, each of the nymphs, led by the obnoxious crusade of Demeter herself, tried their hardest to convert Maci into the Olympian light. Already upset at having to leave her regular life and her father behind, Maci did not take kindly to this. This first spring-summer was a six-month battle between a loud and moody 5-year-old Underworld Princess and her intensely condescending Olympian-bred grandmother.
For the next five years, Maci continued to travel with her mother seasonally, and each season was spent in increasing hostility: Demeter’s typical nonsense coming up against Maci’s short-tempered predisposition. Armed with the rage of a spoiled princess and actual literal pyrokinetic superpowers, Maci reacted to her grandmother’s mistreatment and judgment of the Olympians around her by acting out a reign of terror: picking fights, fighting back, and setting things on fire. Meanwhile, autumn-winter back home was enjoyed as a life of luxury, doted upon by her reunited parents, and spending time with her closest and only friends, twins Hypnos and Thanatos. When Maci was 10 years old, Seph petitioned Demeter to allow Maci to make an active decision on whether she would prefer to continue traveling seasonally or stay fulltime in the Underworld. By then, Demeter had long since given up on ever taking her in as an Olympian, and was beyond relieved to be rid of the little brat when Maci obviously chose to remain home where her perfect Princess life and friends were.
Adolescence, ages 10 to 17
By the age of 10, Maci had never actually known her father without her mother at his side. The version of Hades who existed when Seph was home in the fall was Maci’s hero; though always stiff in nature, he held a soft spot for his little daughter next to the spot reserved for his wife. Hades had also, of course, never been responsible for taking care of Maci without Seph there with him. It was easy to bounce Maci’s high-maintenance hyperactivity against Persephone, who was usually mellow, cool, and unshakeable. The disposition of Hades - easily irritable and short-tempered himself - was less equipped to handle Maci’s whims and moods without Seph there.
During the first spring that she spent home, Maci was confused to suddenly discover that the springtime version of her father was shut down completely, and he had not chosen to invite her in. Rather than bonding to cope with the absence of Persephone together, Hades instead decided to ice Maci out, and retracted himself from her both emotionally and in presence. Daily, Maci found herself mostly alone within the halls of their palace, and her interactions with her father were short and cold. Reeling from this abandonment, Maci found comfort in the arms of Hypnos and Thanatos, who by this point had been her best friends for the past four years of her life...
✧*̥˚A brief interlude: Maci & the twins*̥˚✧
Hypnos and Thanatos, inseparable twin sons of Nyx and Erebus, had met Maci when she, age 6, had found them, age 11, bickering in the Fields of Asphodel. She had broken up their fight by physically forcing herself between them and exploding. Immediately fascinated by both (and enamored with Thanatos especially), Maci had clung to them afterwards, and they all had remained friends ever since.
Maci knew them the way everyone did: Hypnos, God of Sleep, a gentle, sweet kid prone to bouts of narcolepsy; and Thanatos, God of Gentle Death, very cool, suave, and charming even with a teenage sneer. But Maci, just like everyone, was oblivious to the truth of the twins’ dynamic: that beneath his carefully charming smile, Thanatos lacked empathy. His only goals were violence and power, and his darkest secrets were stained with blood and ichor even by this young age. Armed with a scythe and relentless cruelty since early in their childhood, Thanatos had already tamed Hypnos to cower behind him in fear, and for these past years while Maci fawned in what she thought was mutual friendship, he envisioned a future in which he could tear her down as well. Thanatos had quickly learned how to blend in by acting perfectly normal, even likeable, and Maci had no way of knowing who her best friend and childhood crush really was on the inside. And so...
✧*̥˚Anyway*̥˚✧
With Hades pulling away during this first year, Maci pushed closer to Thanatos and Hypnos, spending even more time than usual with them at the House of Nyx. Hades grumbled disapproval that Maci would interact even tangentially with Nyx’s ridiculous tangle of offspring – but he allowed her to do as she wished without any real interference, perhaps grateful to have her out of the way. His aloofness frustrated Maci to no end, and even more so when Seph returned that autumn like nothing was wrong. Unwilling to “ruin” the somewhat normalcy that had finally come back with her parents reunited, Maci didn’t mention the past six months.
When her mother left again the next year and Hades withdrew once more, Maci’s frustrations skyrocketed and turned into rage. She quickly realized that Hades noticed her again only when she was acting out, and Thanatos, who had been observing the fracture forming since last spring and sensed an opportunity to make it worse, encouraged Maci to continue picking fights with her father to get the attention she craved. Hades was temperamental to begin with and was growing more irritated with Maci's behavior... personality, and presence, day by day. He fell for the bait she laid each time when she instigated arguments, and by the age of 11, Maci had decided that the best and only way to interact with her father was by provoking him into yelling at her, for otherwise he refused to give her the time of day. Once again, when Persephone returned in the fall, the toxic environment Hades and Maci were constructing together snapped back to the illusion of peace. A silent decision was made to play nicely together in Seph's presence, but still Maci became a little louder, a little cockier, a little meaner, knowing that Hades would never engage while his wife was home. By the time Seph left again and Maci was 12, the situation continued to worsen. Maci made it a point to be as difficult as possible while interacting with her father, and Hades never questioned why, only bickered immaturely back.
In the background of Maci's life by this time, she was heartbroken to discover that Thanatos was formally dating his first girlfriend, a timid goddess called Amechania, “Amey.” Unbeknownst to Maci, their relationship behind the scenes was a nightmare, but Maci was oblivious, and only concerned with how her friendship with Thanatos would be affected. In between causing a ruckus in the palace with Hades, she vented constantly to a beleaguered Hypnos about her jealousy. Hypnos knew about Maci’s crush on Thanatos - he also knew what Thanatos was really like – and as well, he suspected that Thanatos and Amey’s relationship was not as perfect as it seemed. But Hypnos was a victim of Thanatos’ abuse behind his own scenes and was terrified to intervene beyond trying to gently nudge Maci away from him, a hint that she refused to pick up on. When Amey suddenly disappeared within the next year, Maci (now 13) was only relieved that perhaps Thanatos would notice her.
Thanatos, by now 18, was in fact noticing her, just not in the way that she was hoping. He was biding his time until she was older and taking the opportunity in the meantime to continue to groom and manipulate her over her head. Maci and Hades’ relationship continued to worsen. Thanatos and Maci (and Hypnos, third-wheeling in helpless rising horror, usually quietly nursing hidden scythe-wounds) spent more time together as Maci began to avoid being near Hades in the palace. Thanatos agreed wholeheartedly when she stressed that her parents did not care about her, and encouraged her to keep rebelling against them, reminding her that at the end of the day, her real family was found right here – in him, her best friend. While Maci was 13, Thanatos introduced her to his second girlfriend, another shy goddess named Sophrosyne, “Sophie,” who was actually one of Thanatos' own distant sisters from Nyx's endless brood. Maci, jealous of another potential wedge between her and Thanatos, made it a point not to get along with her. Maci was building quite a reputation for herself within the Underworld as a temperamental terror wielding all the power of a royal title, and Sophie mostly avoided her, cowering strangely at Thanatos’ side instead.
Months later, Maci was irritated to be privately pulled aside by Sophie. She was babbling insanity, something weird about being in danger, and Maci being in danger – nonsense about how Thanatos was not what he seemed, and that both of them needed to get away before it was too late. But Thanatos only seemed confused when Maci told him what Sophie had said, and she was smugly delighted when Thanatos agreed that his relationship with Sophie had probably run its course.
Maci never saw her again. He was dating another girl by the next year, Hesychia, “Hess,” the mute Goddess of Silence, and soon took residence with her in one of the cave constructed homes of Tartarus. Maci resumed anguishing jealously in the background, made all the harder by the fact that she was spending nearly every waking moment with Thanatos and Hypnos (and now Hess, always silent, looking more haunted by the day). Maci, now age 14, could not stand to be in the same room as Hades. The palace shared by just the two of them sat with uncomfortably tense silence, only ever broken by screaming arguments that usually ended in Hades throwing her out of the palace, or Maci storming out of her own accord, either way ending up with the twins in Nyx's house or at Thanatos’ cave.
She would slink back days later and repeat, even moodier from Thanatos’ continued relationship with Hess. The following year, with Maci now 15, Seph came home and for the first time, the simmering tension between her husband and daughter was too great to hide. She was overall disturbed and stunned by this shattered relationship coming out of “nowhere,” though she felt Maci’s outrageous attitude was blatant even to her (and in Seph’s eyes, Hades could do no wrong, despite clearly being in the wrong). Trying to mediate between both sides without picking a side, Seph orchestrated an offering of peace on hers and Hades’ behalf, authorizing construction on a palace of Maci’s own in the subsection of the Underworld that belonged to Maci herself, the Elysian Fields, land of the blessed dead. It had been long proven that giving Maci presents usually kept her satisfied.
The Elysium palace was completed by Maci’s 16th birthday and presented as a gift to her with Hades’ name on it. It stood tall in the depths of Elysium, a natural safe haven due to the magical barrier surrounding Elysium’s outskirts, installed by the Olympians long ago and eternally enchanted to keep out anything evil. But Thanatos (who could not cross the barrier and could not let anyone find this out) pointed out to Maci what a slap in the face this gift was, a clear message that her parents wanted her out of their sight. Maci was incensed. She refused to set foot in the palace, lashing out with accusations of the theories Thanatos had placed in her head. Instead of doing anything to reassure her, Hades was instead furious at this most egregious display of disrespect, a last straw among last straws. The fight that followed, and the cruel words that were exchanged, was their worst to date.
By now, something inside Maci was cracking, or it already had. She was living in active hostility with a father who despised her openly when he wasn't pretending she didn't exist, a mother who was somehow choosing to stay neutral between them – this life now was an echo of the turmoil her grandmother had put her through when she was a little kid. Part of her yearned to viciously lean into the perception of her created by her own family, and she did this when she traipsed the kingdom clutching her title of Princess like an obnoxious shield. But there was a part of her inside that was beginning to claw in desperation with a frantic, anxious need to be loved, really loved, and actually seen by someone, anyone. This feeling continued to simmer under her skin. She could not bring herself to enter the Elysium palace even once the dust settled from hers and Hades’ fight, as the thought of its halls suddenly felt too utterly empty for her to bear being alone inside it. Maci began to fear that Hypnos and Thanatos, particularly Thanatos, who she adored more than anyone, would only ever see her as a child tagging after them. When Thanatos and Hess broke up (a relationship longer than his normally were, though she too disappeared after their split) and Maci’s friendship with him only continued the same as ever, her anxieties increased.
She knew she was pretty, and noticed every time she was noticed - she had never dated anyone, but she suspected that the personality she put on within the Underworld was probably what caused most people to recoil from her. But Thanatos knew her like no one else did, and she had always tried to be her most true self around him. If even her true self was unlovable, what then? Hypnos tried to talk sense into her - she was too young, now only just shy of 17 years old, he reminded her, and besides, it was for the best that she stay as far away from Thanatos as possible. Maci only insisted that Thanatos certainly seemed to reciprocate her feelings - and there was no one else that seemed to like her, even platonically. Fueled by anxiety and almost 17 years of emotional betrayal, it dawned on her the circumstances that she felt she'd created for herself. The desperate, frantic feeling inside began to overwhelm her.
TO BE CONTINUED - AND IT ONLY GETS SO MUCH WORSE FROM HERE - part two! • &part three!
questions & comments are appreciated esp if u somehow made it all the way to the bottom 🙃 I’ll post the next part later tonight or tomorrow!!,

Wrennly. Hey, I don’t know what to do. My stresses under the cut
I have close to no food at home.
My boyfriend essentially cannot help me both emotionally and financially right now. He’s got enough stress on him.
I came to my manager about my stresses and she didn’t care. She blamed me for my lack of hours. Said I wasn’t productive enough and that I talk too much to the customers. Okay, noted, I’ll change my behavior.
I’ve canvassed the town I live in for a second job and nobody is hiring. I don’t have a car to drive places.
I’m close to a breaking point because I feel all alone. And I’m dangerously close to snapping.
I have .78 cents in food stamps (that won’t renew until December). And $-35 in the bank.
If anybody can donate, I’d be endlessly grateful.

So given that the Zolt-fossil has pikacheeeks and the new legendary suicune thing has a raptorial stance—- can we suggest that a lot of mammalian looking pokemon aren’t actually that mammalian? I mean they lay eggs. But like. RAPTORIAL ANCESTORS. FULL ASS LIZARD FOR ZOLT. Could be convergent evolution of the pikacheeks but WHAT IF IT WASNT.
Could be that ZOLT was a raptor with fur too. But could be that mammalian pokemon are actually like. Scaled or leathery or something. Smooth Pikachu.

HEADCANON ASKS!
@crystalpower asked:
What’s one of your muse’s favorite textures? What normal looking objects appear ugly to your muse? / for both!
Weirdly enough, Taker really likes the feeling of fresh sanded wood and sawdust. You can catch him running his hand(s) over finished caskets before he paints and/or varnishes them. There are a few reasons for this, whether or not Taker’s fully aware of them. The first is that his father, JT, usually smelled like cut wood, since he spent a lot of time out in the workshop. No matter what Paul might say, no matter how he might try to manipulate, gaslight, and twist the boys’ memories, their parents loved them, and JT was a constant source of comfort and reassurance for little Adam. Sometimes, when he was old enough, JT would let Adam help him with his work both as a way to bond and a way to start teaching him for when Adam inherited the business. It’s in part from his father that the Undertaker has a habit of running his fingers over wood after he’s finished it - a way to make sure it’s really smooth and sanded to the proper finish. When he was young, Adam would often mimic JT as he did this, even if he didn’t yet know what he was feeling for.
The other reason he likes it so much is that Paul rarely if ever liked doing work for himself. He much preferred to profit off of what other people did for him. As such, he didn’t spend a lot of time in the workshop. He’d occasionally come in to yell at Taker or check on progress or something like that, but largely, Taker would be left alone to do his work there. It was easier for him to find peace in that workshop than most other places.
Aside from that, Taker also just takes pride in his works, and he keeps his bikes in the shop, so. It’s his happy place, and the smell/feeling of sawdust reminds him of it.
Kane, on the other hand, really likes soft/furry textures. There weren’t a lot of soft things in the hospitals he was kept in, and very few soft things in the basement. Nothing really soft and warm (except for the animals he had to kill to survive). Smooth, solid, cold textures, those were a dime a dozen. Rough and harsh ones, too. But things that were warm and soft, those were rare.
When he was little, he saw animals all the time. He lived in rural Texas. There were farm animals, wild animals, the local pets (mostly dogs and cats), the semi-feral semi-domesticated animals that roamed the valley (like the time cats)... And of course his parents kept him warm and comfortable. Fluffy blankets, fluffy sweaters, that sort of thing. So, in part, soft textures remind him of when his life was alright. He doesn’t have any clear memories of that time. He doesn’t remember his parents’ names until his brother told him. He had to re-learn his way around the Valley, even though it hadn’t changed much in the past few decades. He doesn’t remember. But there’s a part of him that, subconsciously, still associates the feeling with the comfort he had when he was young.
Part of it, darkly, is about food. Like I said, Kane had to hunt to feed himself in the basement. He is INCREDIBLY food shy. When Paul wasn’t feeding him, he was at risk of starvation. Little Kane was well aware of this. Killing the squirrels and rats for food was, in a way, the only kind of rebellion and independence he had back then. It was a way to keep himself safe. It was a way to stay alive. Whether that was just because he didn’t want to die, or because he was thinking about murdering his brother, either worked.
But, yeah. Those are their favourite textures. As for things that most people find normal but look ugly to them, for Taker, the first one that comes to mind is big, fancy houses - mansions, estates, that kind of thing. Any display of wealth. This is mostly related to his trauma and the things he’s experienced throughout his life, and partly because of some general small-town, Valley Folk things. I’ll start at the beginning for him.
There aren’t a lot of wealthy people who live directly in the Valley proper. Yes, the Valdis-es had money (before Paul), but they were relatively normal in terms of how they lived. … In that sense. Most of the richer folk were farmers who lived in the surrounding area, but came to the Valley for school, not-produce-related shopping, and buying/selling goods. Most of their kids had to help around their family farms, so they were no strangers to hard work, in spite of their money.
Then there were the Bywaters. The Bywaters were one of the founding families of the Valley, and they don’t like people forgetting it. They’re also ridiculously wealthy. Nobody knows what they do for a living. Most people think it’s stocks or investments. Yes, Ferdinand does head one of the local churches, but it’s hardly a big-city megachurch. Generally, everyone thinks it’s best not to ask. That’s usually the appropriate attitude in the Valley.
For the most part, Adam/Taker never got along with any of the Bywaters. They’re rich and they like people to know it. They think they’re better than other people, and they like those other people to know that, too. It’s an ego thing. (Most things with the Bywaters are ego things.) Suffice to say, Adam didn’t get along with the Bywaters of his year. Matthew and Persephone; first cousins, though they both lived in the estate. Most direct relatives do until they’re sent off to do… Whatever it is Bywaters do. They were stuffy and pompous. Thought they were too good to use the class crayons in school, had to bring their own. It was a box with a sharpener, too, and of course they didn’t share. They just flaunted them. There’s more to it than that, of course, but yeah, he never liked them.
Then, of course, we get into the more serious issue of his trauma/abuse at the hands of the wealthy. Paul, Ted, and Vince, most prominently, but there were others, too - including Brother Love and Mr. Fuji, though they didn’t flaunt their opulence the same way.
Paul took almost all of the insurance money/estate once the funeral home burned down. I’ve written about this before, so I won’t go into too many details here, but the only money he didn’t take was the fund JT and Iza had specifically allocated for the boys in their will; that went to Adam’s new legal guardians, Nel and Liam, so long as they used it for Adam’s well-being. Typical legal stuff. Once Adam became the Undertaker, he got to see where the rest of the money went.
Paul often told him the funeral home was ‘struggling’, but would walk around in fifteen-thousand-dollar suits. He drove new, fancy sports cars and drank top-shelf liquor every night. He had his own house, since he didn’t feel like living in the Valley proper. New watches, cuff links, lapel pins that he would tell anyone who asked were real gold and silver, of course. ‘Taker, meanwhile, was near-constantly in rags, scuffed boots, the same hat he’d had for years. And the home was always struggling, so Paul would yell at him to work harder. He wasn’t allowed to use the shower, because water cost money, and heating it more so.
That all just made his distaste for the wealthy grow.
Then there was Ted. ‘The Million Dollar Man’. He had a habit of buying people, and Taker was one of his ‘greatest acquisitions’. But if you watch the early matches where Taker worked for Ted, Taker is still in the rags, the old boots, the old hat. When he was with Ted, Taker felt like he was in a cage more than he ever was - he wasn’t a person, he was a prize. People talked around him, people gawked at him, he was shown off and people would ask Ted how much he paid for ‘that thing’. Even if Ted gave him a nice bed to sleep in, it was too soft, too different from what he’d become used to, and it just made Taker even more uncomfortable. The food was weird, he didn’t know the etiquette, everything felt far too clean for someone like him. That’s not even talking about how sick he felt being away from the yard. Not even talking about how little he wanted to fight at the time. How Paul still had the urn. I could go on and on about the abuse Taker felt under Ted, and how terrible he felt in the DiBiase days as a whole, but that’s not really what this is about.
Then, consider that the next rich people he had a lot of contact with were the McMahons and Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
Enough said.
He doesn’t like rich people, and definitely doesn’t like anyone who flaunts their wealth. And those big, fancy mansions just remind him of jails.
For Kane, the easy answers would be mirrors or faces. I don’t know if I want to go the obvious route. So, for Kane, let’s go with clean, well-organised rooms, but taken to an extreme. It all feels too sterile, too lifeless, for him. Yes, Kane is a bit of a neat freak, just like his brother - trauma and Paul instilled that in the both of them. But there’s a point where, for Kane, it stops feeling ‘clean’ and ‘neat’ and starts feeling empty and unlived in. That’s when it starts to make him uncomfortable.
Part of it is that it makes wherever he is feel empty and abandoned. That makes him paranoid. Kane is someone who doesn’t like being alone, full stop. Over the years, it gets better, but early on after his release, he doesn’t even like being the only person in a room if he can help it. It makes him anxious. After years and years go by, he can be alone in a room if he has to be, but he doesn’t like it; he still can’t stand being alone in a building/general area. Even thinking he might be alone can set him off on bad days/early days. So if a room looks too clean, to the point where it doesn’t look like anyone’s been there, it looks horrible to him. It did mean he had to find a middle ground with Taker, who’s the more extreme clean freak of the two of them, but they made it work.
The other reason Kane doesn’t like the look of too-clean rooms is that it reminds him of the hospitals. A lot of them didn’t have places for patients to just ‘exist’. Rooms were the closest they got, but those were often bare and empty. Of course, that’s not what any brochures would show you.
When Kane was in his late teens to early twenties, Paul started making a point of showing him the brochures, as if Kane cared, as if Kane was allowed an opinion. It was all for show, of course. Oh, son, I’m trying my best for you, and Oh, son, they’ll take good care of you here. It’ll be nice, you’ll see, do this for Daddy, boy. Listen to your father, I know what’s best. I always know what’s best.
That kind of thing.
And in the brochures, the rooms shown always looked too nice, and too clean. For a lot of them, Kane thought they put their budget into the advertising, rather than the care of the patients. In other hospitals, maybe they did have rooms for patients to spend time in. Maybe they even looked nice. It didn’t matter, because Kane wasn’t usually allowed in them. If he ever was allowed in a recreation space, it wasn’t often that he was allowed there with other people. Paul did what he could to make sure Kane was consistently misdiagnosed as more dangerous than he was to ensure his isolation continued. Most hospitals didn’t really care either way. So Kane would either be walked past those too-clean or too-empty rooms, or be there alone, which was almost worse. The bigger rooms made him feel even more alone.

I met a girl when I was fresh out of high school in undergrad who frankly, annoyed me quite a bit, but I also had an inkling to continue to be compassionate to her given a few things about her life/background/family
I ran into her two years ago. Last week, her daughter turned 1. This girl, let’s called her “P”, is a really good example of why I never feel comfortable mocking trad wives
Her perfect trad husband, who was a shining young figure in the local religious community, volunteered in all sorts of groups, well loved in his workplace and everything else, beat her up at 1 month post-partum. I reached out to her after seeing her desperately asking for a stroller on a page, confused and slightly concerned knowing both of them came from wealthy backgrounds.
The reality for lots of tradwives living “perfect lives” is this: P was immediately ostracised. All the wealth of her husband and her family meant absolutely nothing if she wasn’t in favour and doing what she was told. Her child and her well-being didn’t matter. P, at 25 years old, was basically deemed an oopsie, and left on her own to figure out how to pay for herself, a baby, find housing, and every other task you can think of.
Having known many of these women (and supported many of these women), another factor most people don’t consider is this: they are intentionally raised to be helpless. When I immediately offered my support to P, she really needed it. This young woman needed to be guided through how to apply for government assistance, how to weigh up rentals and apply for them, how to apply for jobs, how to sign up for childcare. How to sign up for your own power and internet, and how to connect them.
It wasn’t that she was “stupid”, or incapable, or spoiled. While it looks like they’re being sheltered, in reality, these women are practically being held hostage. Sure, they might be allowed to learn things that are expected of them (see: basic cooking, baking, cleaning, child rearing, women’s bible studies, hosting, and so forth) but they are heavily controlled from family life into marriage life, and they are never given the opportunity or the reality of what many of us would consider basic adult tasks.
She’s doing okay now. Her daughter turned 1, is happy and healthy. They live frugally, but they have a roof over their heads and the essentials. I often babysit for her so she can attend counselling, or go to a woman’s support group. She is painfully aware that she has so much to learn about how to live as an adult.
I don’t envy tradwives, but I don’t find any joy in mocking them either. Even when they live the most picturesque lives, they’re also practically living a real life Jenga game. If (and often, when) it comes tumbling down, they’re screwed too, and they often have 0 skills to help themselves or find community (that again, isn’t carefully curated).
#if anything I would say I pity the majority of them#material living aside - what an awful way to live.#katie rambles#tw domestic violence#tw abuse#ask 2 tag

this manatee looks like it’s in a skyrim loading screen
#lol good luck finding all of the photoshopped versions in the rb history. ‘manatee restored’ is still my favorite of all time#misc#I encourage anyone dyslexic to try rotating him in your mind. I can’t do that; which is why I’m asking you to.#also: a bunch of tags are surprised this isn’t ‘shopped#it’s the lighting. backlit by the sun (which is diffused through the water) but also forelit artificially#the artificial light - a flash pack or something - casts a hard shadow under the creatures arm#which normally wouldn’t be possible if backlit by the SUN; you’d see a less-hard/more-fragmented shadow above water#as light sources ‘compete’ in a sense - and since there aren’t any light sources which can outshine the literal sun#it looks a bit weird when the darkest shadow is being cast from any other origin point - which is what’s essentially happening here#I don’t know the mechanics of how light travels through water; but I know the effect is substantial even with relatively short distances#also: it’s been balanced and color corrected by the author of the photo - who made deliberate choices to bring out the full potential#so it’s not like it’s a fresh and untouched export#but the kind of ‘tacked on’ appearance of the creature is a result of the lighting conditions within the image

yall have got to be more normal about Southern people and I'm not kidding. enough of the Sweet Home Alabama incest jokes, enough of the idea that all Southerners are bigots and rednecks, and enough of the idea that the South has bad food. shut up about "trailer trash" and our accents and our hobbies!
do yall know how fucking nauseating it is to hear people only bring up my state to make jokes about people in poverty and incestuous relationships? how much shame I feel that I wasn't born up north like the Good Queers and Good Leftists with all the Civilised Folk with actual houses instead of small cramped trailers that have paper thin walls that I know won't protect me in a bad enough storm?
do yall know how frustrating it is to be trans in a place that wants to kill you and whenever you bring it up to people they say "well just move out" instead of sympathizing with you or offering help?
do yall understand how alienating it is to see huge masterposts of queer and mental health resources but none of them are in your state because theyre all up north? and nobody seems to want to fix this glaring issue because "they're all hicks anyways"
Southern people deserve better. we deserve to be taken seriously and given a voice in the queer community and the mental health space and leftist talks in general.
#this is kind of a vent honestly but ive been thinking abt it a lot#ask to tag#ok to reblog#southerners#queer#lgbt#neurodivergent#alabama#georgia#tennessee#texas#discourse#?#poverty#southern queer
