The man o war, commonly mistaken for a jellyfish, is a colonial organism made up of zooids that have different jobs in the colony. This animal has a reputation for its painful stings that can leave a human in agony for hours. Its venom is held in its tentacles that are used for hunting and paralyzing fish to eat. Despite the potent stings, there are some animals that are unaffected, such as the blue sea dragon, a kind of sea slug. These creatures feed on other animals found in the open ocean, including the man o war and other toxic siphonophores. Not only are they immune to the stings, the blue dragon stores the stinging cells from the man o war to use for its own hunting and defense.

maybe people don't play with the idea of prince mike x servant will much when it comes to fantasy aus because of the question of consent (among other things ofc) but personally ... i think tht adds to it?

bc i could totally see will not wanting to overstep and get too familiar—even though there is no such thing as too familiar, not for them, not anymore—and mike not wanting to impose himself on will or force him into anything just by virtue of his station any more than he already has; so, they're stuck in this tension-filled, agonizing limbo of wanting the same thing but being too scared to go for it.

like, will would gladly do anything for mike even without expectation of payment, and he's bursting at the seams with everything that he's grown to feel for him (and knows that he shouldn't, bc he's just a servant after all), but mike is too scared to ask for anything more than his friendship, or even entertain the fantasy that his feelings are requited, because of how aware he is of the power imbalance there, and how he could never, ever do that to will—his sweetest, truest confidant.

mike's the only prince. he's never had a choice when it came to anything in his life, and he's going to rob will of his most precious one? condemn him to tending to a man—even worse: his employer—whose affections he could never return? a life of secrecy and stolen moments? of no true agency in a relationship that should be as freeing for him as it's always been for mike? he couldn't. he wouldn't.

so they continue to play their game of "please be the one to say it first and free me from this hell," because they respect each other above all and want to be a choice that the other makes.
