Okay I’m not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope. If it’s done well fine but most of the time it’s incredibly frustrating…however one that always gets me is the “break their heart to save their life”

Why can’t they tell them the truth of the situation? Idk, maybe they’re too angry or stubborn to listen, maybe their trust has been broken, maybe they don’t want to believe they’re not good enough to survive.

Whatever the reason is, their lover had to break their heart, severing the love they’ve had for each other in the name of it. In the name of keeping them safe, taking the downfall for themselves because to see them die is worse than to see them resent the other.

And somewhere, deep within the lover hopes that one day they can be forgiven because they’re so deeply in love with their partner that their willing to sacrifice everything to make sure their alive and safe
