Aqua Regia II: putting down the roses, picking up the sword.
Previous chapter // Next chapter
Neuvillette x Fem!reader
Word count: 2.5k
You get settled into your new position, but are you really.. settled? You realize something a bit embarrassing about your new boss too, best keep that one to yourself.
Authors note: this is where we get the slightest bit suggestive. I just cant help myself. HES A DRAGON COME ONNNN
The first thing Neuvillette notices is that his office is startlingly tidy.
Now, he is not a slob by any means, and he prides himself in that fact— but since taking over Lady Furinas responsibilities, he’s found that keeping things as organized as he used to had become increasingly more difficult as the days went on.
He rounded his desk, sitting down with wide eyes as he looked around at the new organizational structure of his desk.
There is an incoming and outgoing bin on either side of his desk, filing folders clearly indicating which documents each folder holds, there's even a fresh pot of ink, and brand new pens placed neatly in an elegant holder. Across the room, against the wall in his direct line of sight is a very large calendar, Large print outlining each day's primary tasks.
As he’s gawking at the lack of clutter, you waltz in, just as lovely as before, and he finds himself staring at you a bit more openly, though your gaze is trained upon the tray holding his favorite tea set, and a few bottles of clear liquid that he knows is fresh water, straight from the cooler.
“Bonjour, Monsieur Neuvillette, I hope you had a pleasant evening.”
He nods as you set the tray down on his desk, carefully placing his teacup and saucer down in front of him.
“Honey lemon, for your tea this morning.” You set the bottles down to the left of him, removing the tray to a vacant table as you continue speaking. “You have two meetings this morning, firstly with Madame Petra Voleange, who wishes to discuss the accommodations you spoke of for her son who was sentenced to the fortress last week— the young man in the wheelchair who was picking pockets.
You handed him a folder, which was clearly labeled and neatly sorted. “I spoke with the Duke, and this is all the information on what can be provided. Your second meeting is with Kemia, a researcher from Sumeru who wishes to gain your permission to gather information on local flora to aid in her botanical medicine research. The information she provided when booking should be in the top left hand drawer of your desk.”
He slid open the drawer, nodding at the folder placed on the top of the pile.
You handed him another folder, much thicker and darker in color.
“This is for today’s trial, which starts at 2:30pm. I’ve given you a mandatory two hour block starting at noon to take your lunch, and go over the information we have.”
You put a delicate hand on the backs of the two large bottles of water you placed on his desk, and he found himself staring at the way the condensation clung to your skin.
“These are from Mondstadt’s finest spring production. I puttered around last night and was able to sweet talk a distributor into sourcing bottles from all seven nations, and he’s willing to send a bi-weekly shipment for us. Sedene told me that you are fond of the different flavors from all over Teyvat, and I saw that you only get shipments from the different nations individually, so I thought that finding a sole distributor who could outsource them for us would be much more efficient.”
He blinked at you, processing your words carefully.
You stared right back, and as the silence grew, so did the pink on your cheeks. In the back of his mind, he thought it rather endearing that you seemed so flustered, so eager to please him.
“Please say something, If you don’t I'm going to continue to ramble to try and convince myself that I’m doing everything correctly.”
A soft breath escaped him, and then it fluttered into a chuckle, as much as he tried to stop it. Your gaze went wide, and you stood shock still, waiting.
“This is wonderful, much more than I ever would have asked for.” He said, softening his gaze. He saw you relax, and smile back at him— and something inside him twitched.
Since retaining his full dragonhood, he’s been struggling with new and confusing emotions, instincts, and for some reason every time he was in your presence he felt things he’d never experienced before.
But—He felt so incredibly grateful for your assistance, so he tampered these strange emotions down, not wanting to speak of them and scare you off when you had just begun to better his work life.
You let out a dramatic sigh. “Thank you. I was so worried I had overdone it and you would be upset.”
“You seem to have a lot of anxieties when it comes to your work performance. Your heart rate spiked the moment you walked in, and only now has calmed to an adequate level.”
You gaped at him, and of course your heart rate returned to its accelerated speed.
“I mean no offense by this,” he floundered— albeit gracefully, softening his tone. “I just mean to say that I wish you would feel more at ease here. You’re doing exceptionally well.”
A strange smell permeated the air around you, sickly sweet and very enticing. He’d smelt something similar before, though much fainter, but he couldn’t remember when, and he knew for sure that he had never smelled anything so mouthwateringly divine as this.
Was it a new perfume? Why hadn’t he noticed it before?
You seemed to turn an even deeper shade of red, before you nodded, bowing slightly before scuttling out the door, stammering about paperwork and your other tasks— carrying that sweet aroma with you.
Strange, he thought. I’ll have to do more research into what this could be.
He’d been experiencing many new senses since regaining his full power, perhaps a heightened sense of smell? He was not sure. All he really knew for certain was that he was thoroughly enjoying your presence here at the Palais.
———————————————
The rain poured heavily this evening, casting everything in a deep gray filter, the dark clouds rolling over the city sky in thick droves.
The trial was terrible. A child murderer had been left unchecked for too long, killing two boys and a girl, leaving one victim alive yet traumatized beyond repair.
The young girl's mother had attended the trial, interrupting during the defense's deposition to scream at the accused, demanding retribution and revenge for her poor daughter, and the lives of the children that were lost before her.
In the end, the woman had to be escorted away, and the trial continued. Justice was indeed served. But the look of broken rage on that mothers face stuck with Neuvillette the entire time, though he pushed it to the back of his mind to remain impassive to anything but the facts.
The rain fell in thick sheets, soaking the streets and making everyone either run for an umbrella or to find shelter. He sat at his desk, back to the window as he listened to the sound of the water beating against the glass.
With his attention drawn toward his thoughts, he almost didn’t hear you enter. He glanced at you as you walked past his desk, placing one of your hands on the window as you looked outside at the mess.
“Wow,” you said. “It’s really coming down out there, isn’t it?”
Neuvillette felt guilty.
“Ah, my apologies, the rain must put a damper on your mood.” He said before he could even think to filter himself.
He wasn’t exactly trying to hide what he was, but he didn’t think you’d quite figured it out yet.
“Why are you apologizing, silly?” You smiled. “I love the rain. It’s so peaceful and calming.”
His interest was piqued, and he turned towards you in his chair. “Oh?”
You nodded. “I’ve always loved the rain. Something about water being the lifeblood of the earth, you know? The cycle continuing, nourishing us— Washing away the old, bringing in the new.” You flushed a little then, looking down at your feet. “Ah, forgive me, I must sound a bit odd.”
“No,” Neuvillette said, seeing some clouds part ever so slightly outside, a ray of the sun peaking through to shine upon the Palais, upon you. “I quite enjoy the rain too, on more pleasant occasions.”
You grinned at him. “Perhaps we could take a walk then? It looks like it’s slowing down, so we shouldn’t get too many odd stares if we keep to the grounds of the Palais.”
“You wish to walk in the rain? I do not have an umbrella with me, unfortunately.”
You shook your head, walking quickly just outside the door, where you procured a navy blue raincoat with a large hood from some void outside his office where you kept your belongings.
“I never use umbrellas, I love the feeling of the rain directly, don’t you?”
Something in his chest pulled, and he cleared his throat.
“Ah, I do. I didn’t think many others felt the same.”
“It’s quite warm today, so I don’t think you’d run the risk of catching a cold— as long as you don’t mind getting your nice clothes wet, I think we should do it!”
You beamed at him, not knowing that he had never had to worry about catching the common cold before, yet you worried all the same.
You seemed to be unaware of just how you affected him, how brightly you shined to Neuvillette.
He’d not known you for long, but he genuinely hoped that you continued to stay here, working with him, because he was actually starting to look forward to coming to his office, coming to work.
The rain clouds cleared just a bit more.
—————————————
You’re going to lose your job.
If you cannot get a hold of yourself, of these childish, ridiculous, fantastical ideas you’ve managed to curate in your head— your boss is going to realize you’re insane and fire you.
At least, this is what goes through your head when you look in the mirror at the crack of dawn, preparing yourself for work.
Just over a month at this wonderful, enjoyable and well paying job, and your wonderful brain decides to throw you into a myriad of dreams in which your boss, the chief justice and newly reigning figurehead of the nation of Fontaine, was the main focus.
It started off innocent. Dreams about normal and mundane things that happen at work. This was perfectly normal and fine, it happened with nearly every job you had.
You reminisce on days where your dreams consisted of you bagging produce at a local fruit stand as a teenager— oh, such simple times.
But as the weeks carried on, your dreams tended to metastasise into something less than appropriate.
It started with his eyes.
One day at work you caught him observing you. Now— this was not unusual, Neuvillette was a very observant person, and when in a comfortable environment, such as his office, he was not very subtle. It did not bother you, especially when you were doing such mundane things as filling out reports. But this time, when you looked up to check on him, your eyes met— and for a moment you held his stare.
His eyes held such a depth of colour, so striking and vibrant, yet so pale and mystical. And the way he looked at you stirred some aching, foreign thing inside you. It was like he was looking into your very soul, at the blood running through your veins. You flushed, naturally, and hurried off to procure the fresh water for his lunch break.
You tried to pray away the heat that was quickly rushing south, antagonizing yourself thinking that somehow, someway, he was going to find out that just a singular look had you nearly swooning like a hormonal teenager.
This look then proceeded to haunt nearly every dream, and the most recent one was something straight out of one of those light novels from inazuma.
In the dream, you’d been arguing about something, which hadn’t happened in the waking world yet, so your brain just conjured some petty and random cause. You’d gotten frustrated, turning to stomp off. He’d caught your wrist as you were walking away from him, and had pulled you close, staring into your eyes like he was going to devour you.
You had awoken covered in sweat, desperately needing a cold shower.
It wasn’t even all that scandalous. You dreamed of his eyes, of light touches, familiarity, closeness. And like a fool, this still sent your heart into overdrive, barely being able to look at him throughout the day. Ever since he’d mentioned being able to hear your heart beating out of control, you tried to get a handle on your nerves around him, but this new issue only seemed to make things worse.
One day, around the two month mark, you thought you’d been caught.
It was just another day, you didn’t even remember what you’d said to make him laugh, but it was a short, slight wheeze that pulled almost involuntarily from his chest. It made you grin, it made you feel light.
“Oh,” he shook his head, chuckling out your name and smiling down at you from where he stood by the window. “Your sense of humor never fails to impress, you really are a joy to work with.”
Your heart jumped into your throat at his words, at his light and familiar tone, at his genuine smile. You felt your face heat up, and your thighs twitched with the urge to squirm, feeling some rather inappropriate things for your current setting.
You wanted to smack yourself. You were a professional person, someone who took their job extremely seriously. You were not some degenerate whose knees buckled whenever they received praise from a handsome man, a handsome man who just happened to be your boss.
Neuvillettes nose raised a bit, and he breathed deep, as if he was smelling the air. “See, there it is again.” He said, stepping closer to where you sat at his desk, working on the weekly reports. “That scent, I only ever smell it when you’re here. Are you wearing some kind of perfume?”
Your eyes widened. What smell? You thought back to your morning routine, deodorant, a light moisturizer on your skin, you wore your bulle fruit perfume this morning, loving the bright and citrusy scent it gave you, lasting throughout the day. You told him this, and he shook his head, brows furrowing in contemplation.
“No, it's not that,” he said. “It’s difficult to explain, it's sweet yet earthy, rich…and incredibly enticing.” He sort of mumbled that last part, though he seemed to be speaking more to himself than you anyways.
“Rather puzzling, and it tends to happen in conjunction with your fluster, though I haven’t quite pieced together why you’re still so anxious around the workplace, I've been quite diligent with reminding you how wonderful of a job you’re doing.”
You did squirm this time, feeling a visceral throb between your legs, and a sudden weight drop in your chest one after the other as a thought warmed its way into your head.
Could he…. Could Neuvillette really be smelling your arousal? And on top of that, not understanding that was what it was?
For lack of a better phrase, you would say that you’re incredibly screwed.

Picasso
(not related to the Scorpion fanfic, and this is a oneshot.)
Being on the Nevermore baseball team was pretty nice... until one of the furs throws a ball directly at your arm, and half of the baseball team tackles you thinking they're playing fetch. The force of the ball actually managed to break your arm, and the literal dog piled thankfully only sprained your ankle. Now you're off the team and bedridden with 2 casts until further notice. Just great....
---
"So can you tell me why you have a feather and ink bottle? Not only that but why the hell are you in my dorm?" you asked as she placed the small ink jar on your nightstand, sitting down on a stool next to your bed. You lay with a pillow behind your back, allowing you to sit up with your arm on your stomach and your ankle propped up on a pillow, both arm and ankle in casts.
"Enid suggested I aid you on your road to recovery with a custom of decorating one's bandagedwounds. I was against the idea, but being able to see you saddened by the fact you can't play your sport fills me with joy." Of course, that's the reason she would be here; the girl who you have an athletic rivalry with is making fun of the fact you can't do any sports right now.
You sit up correctly before pulling back your sleeves and mockingly flexing your muscles. "Just you wait, Addams, I'll be back on my feet and kicking your ass in no time."
She chuckles before speaking to you. "I'd like to see you try, now let me be a 'dear friend' and help you." She looks at you, mischief laced in her voice as she grabbed the ink bottle and feather.
Your cheeks puff up slightly as you try not to laugh, letting out a small squeak as she looks somewhat menacingly. "I understand you're against technology and shit but if you want, you can use my markers, y'know." You point to a small rectangular chest behind her; the Minecraft chest had a wooden Minecraft sign above it labeled arts and crafts. She walked over to the chest, opening it to reveal a stash of neatly, organized art and drawing supplies. Wednesday is actually surprised at the fact that you, the athletic asshole she's rivals with, is a neatly organized artist.
"Well, aren't you full of surprises?" Her previous cold and dead expression was now replaced with one of surprise with a surprised tone in her voice to match. Although confident in her skills, the amount of art supplies is actually
"Grab the box with a character that looks like sun and moon wearing jester pants Wednesday." She spots a marker box with stickers of video game characters plastered onto it. She blinks at the box before grabbing it and slamming the chest closed, a painful low crack of wood being heard; You hug yourself as it physically pained you to hear that. Wednesday smiles at your pained reaction as she walks towards you.
"Music and misery to me. Now, how do these work?" You grab the box from her hands as she sits on the stool, observing your every move to learn these new tools. You grab a marker, shaking it to allow the ink that hasn't been used since baseball or swimming season started. A loud pop is heard as you take the top of lf the black marker.
"So it's basically like a pencil, but try not to press too hard on it; It'll mess up the ink and the tip. And if you press it softly but let it sit there, the ink will spread kinda like...", you brainstorm ways on how to explain it to Wednesday Addams. "It'll spread like blood on a cotton ball or gauze." The tip of the black marker presses onto the cast on your ankle. A small black ink spot slowly grows until you remove the tip. "Just like that, think of it as using colored pencils...or in your case, charcoal. My ankle cast will get taken off in 3 days, so you can use it as a practice board or canvas."
"Don't be surprised if I draw your anatomically correct bones all broken...with detailed internals." She paused and looked into your eyes with an evil glint before continuing to speak.
"Be happy I'm even letting you in my room dorm; I would've kicked your ass out a long time ago if you didn't come here to draw ponies on my casts." You flip her off while sticking your tongue out and smiling as she gives you her famous death glare. "But besides that, are you ok with me putting music or a podcast?" She looks up at you before continuing to draw on your ankle cast.
"Just nothing like enid's music or I finish that furs job on your leg." You switch on your speaker on switch to Spotify; you select a murder podcast which was quite popular for its gorey details and its voice acting of the victims and killers. You decide to start on your favorite cold case: The Axe-man of New Orleans.
"Can you get me the crocheting needles and yarn from the chest....please?" You stayed quiet as she stared at you before closing the marker and walking over to the chest she had nearly broken. Wednesday returns with a smaller chest closed with a metal buckle and an ingraved sigil on the top. She returns to creating her dark masterpiece on your ankle cast as you open the chest. You hold a ball of purple and white yarn as you stare into space, deciding whether you should crochet the mushroom yoko wanted or the rainbow unicorn enid wanted. You're broken out of your thought train when you look up and see Wednesday still drawing on your cast. How can you be somewhat bonding with the same girl who overthrew your 2nd place in fencing class and broke your lucky baseball bat? You start crocheting as she switches markers, slowly shading the reds together to get the perfect mixture of blood red ink as it drips from the skull she drew on your ankle. "I'm surprised you're that good, not gonna lie."
"If I could beat you in sports and academics, I can certainly beat you at this." She snaps back at you as the podcast ends with its jazz outro before continuing to the Black Dahlia case.
"That you sure can do Ms.Overachiever." She gives you a side glare before returning to her drawing on your cast. You can't help but stare at her features: her dark eyes fixated on her cast, her black hair in her signature braids, and her pale skin that would make others confuse her for a dead corpse. She's never looked like this when you both would compete in fencing, track, or any other sport of competition. Maybe because most of those times, she's had a deadly look on her face.
"Draw a portrait of me. It'll last longer." You snap out of your trance when she calls you out, your face becoming a blushing mess. A smile tugs in her lips before she falls back to her emotionless self. You look down and focus on crocheting when you realize you've been working this whole time as you stared at her. A small black grumpy cat was in your hands; a quarter of its head was missing as you thought about Wednesday and ways you could finish the plush. You grabbed the white yarn and replaced a quarter of the cats head with an exposed skull. You place the small cat that's about a foot tall on near your left side, hiding it from the goth girl's eyes. You grow confused when a scurrying sound is heard jn your dorm. Wednesday looks down at her feet.
"Why would you bring a first-aid kit to their room?...Enid exaggerated their injuries." She lets out an exhausted sigh before Thing scurried up to your bed, freaking you out a bit.
"Dude, I thought you were a dog this whole time Enid talked about you...crazy." You begin to bond with Thing as wednesdsy keeps drawing.
-----
A thundering rain rages outside as wednesday finishes her artwork in your cast. It's a lone skull with blood surrounding the jaw bones. She actually smiles to herself, very proud of her work. She realizes you haven't said a single word in the few minutes she's been here. Wednesday looks at your clock as she realizes she's been there for 3 hours. She grabs her backpack as she speaks to you.
"I must be going, I've missed my writing time with your childish art tools. But I do admit this was...fun." The goth girl continues to speak before looking up at you. Thing rest on your shoulder as your head leans toward him slightly, you hold a new plush with your broken arm. The plush of your favorite animal with a baseball hat rests in your arm next to the black grumpy cat with half its skull exposed. Wednesday puts away your supplies before looking at your sleeping figure. Her backpack clicks open as she rumages around for something.
"Thing, wake up it's time to go." The door to your dorm opens as she exits, not before she left a box of her favorite mint cookies there on your nightstand.
"You know they'll realize you took it, right? What do you need with that plush? I know for a fact it's something you don't need." Thing signs as wednesday walks back toward her dorm, the thunder outside being audible from inside Nevermore's brick walls.
"I'm simply borrowing it, nothing less." Thing signs, telling her she said the phrase wrong as she enters her empty dorm room, enid still out on her date with Ajax at the zoo. "I said what I needed to say, Thing. I don't need your punctuation." Wednesday places Thing and her bag on her bed before preparing for bed.
-----
You awake in your empty dorm, the lamp on your bedside on, and your blinds open, allowing you to see the dark night sky still sobbing a storm. "Wednesdsy? Are you still here?" You spot the cookies on your nightstand and see your clock behind it. Wednesday had arrived 4 hours ago, so you slept for 2 hours when she might've left. You sigh as you smile at the box of cookies, opening them as taking a bite of a mint cookie. The flavor relaxes you a bit as you look around, realizing you're missing the self-plush you had made. Yet the cat you made was gone; there's no way she would've... right? You turn off your nightstsnd lamp and clean the crumbs off of you. The warm heat consumes you as your blanket covers you. The brightness from your phone blinds you before you turn it down to its lowest setting. Clicking from your phone fills your nearly silent room as thunder rages outside with the rain knocking on your window. 'Hey, when you get to your dorm, check if Wednesday stole my plush. If she did, send a pick.' You sent Enid a text as Ajax entered your dorm, yawning a quick hello before entering the bathroom you both shared. The 'sent' at the bottom of your text turns into a blue 'seen'. The texting bubble appears before reappearing with a photo. You blush as your plush-self lays nicely on her black silk bed against her pillows. Your phone vibrates as you receive another text.
'Thatsssssss kinda cute >;)'......You ask for one thing and she attack you for it.
' T///T sthu, she just stole it from me, ok? Make a big deal out of it, and I beat Ajax's ass.' You smile as she immediately starts spamming text, begging you not to hurt her boyfriend. 'Okok I won't, night and tell me how it goes in the morning.' You each text a goodnight before falling asleep. You pull the plush close to your chest as you look out the window, the rain calming down slightly. You fall into a deep sleep once more before your phone vibrates one last time.
'Looks like she really likes "It", doesn't she? :)' A picture of Wednesday appears on your phone for a brief moment, her hands holding your plush like a bouquet; a beautiful corpse bride.

‘Anything for you.’
Lo’ak x gn!reader
Request: yes | no
@mochi-yu for whoever requested this on your blog, i am so sorry
Warnings: Angst, no comfort, writing this made me sob, good luck reading this
Summary
—▸ Y/n was an Avatar, their human body was dying and so they had to pass through the eye of Eywa. They were sent to the Metkayina clan to help the people with wounded warriors and grew close with Lo’ak.
.・゜゜・・゜゜・.
It was a long flight to the islands, but even still Y/n had high hopes of helping the injured Metkayina people's. Even as a scientist, they brushed up on medicine and all the books the other sky people had brought. It was much easier to learn hands-on rather than reading from a book, y/n just didn’t learn that way so they learnt from the forest peoples, never getting too close to cause them any discomfort and some would come up to them just to help them learn.
They got to work quickly, it was their passion, to help. They wondered if Eywa had cursed them to only help others without ever gaging the thought of helping themselves, it was always their first thought to help or to save, it gave them purpose, yet Eywa is always working to change their way of living in some small way. This, however, wasn’t small; it was like a tsunami headed right for them and all they could do was watch. Eywa as their witness, did they watch. Y/n watched a boy who stuck out like the extra digit they both shared, he was Eywa’s perfect creation and everything paled in comparison to his blinding smile and those sunset coloured eyes. By the Great Mother, his eyes, they were like orbs of pure gold and a heat that melted Y/n, it was like Eywa spent her entire life trying to create the purest form of beauty and it finally paid off. They stole glances to the boy but never dropped what they were doing to gawk at him, yet Eywa; like a predator toying with its prey, drew the boy to them. The boy never directly spoke to them, even if Y/n heard him laughing and talking with his friends, nothing could prepare them to hear him talk to them.
“You’re the ‘dreamwalker’ everyone is talking about, right?” His voice cut through the mental gymnastics Y/n was doing. He only got a soft nod as they set the jars with neatly printed labels. “Yes, I’m Y/n. How may I help?” They internally shot themself in the knee, trying their best not to cringe at their words. “Nah, I don’t need your help. Just wanted to find out why your weirder than my sister.” He nonchalantly wandered around Y/n’s pod, messing with jars that had their place yet never putting them back correctly. Y/n had to stop themselves from pushing the boy’s hand away from their jars, wondering how long it’ll take before the jars are in their proper places. “Why do you have so many jars?” He finally turned to them, looking directly into their eyes. “It depends on what someone comes to me with, since Ronal is taking time away from her healing duties for her baby.”
And that was the start of it all, Lo’ak and Y/n, Y/n and Lo’ak, thick as thieves and as sharp as daggers. You’d never see one without the other, more often than not; you likely wouldn’t see them much at all. The pair raced both in the water and in the air, the off chance Y/n lost Lo’ak would brag to anyone who’d listen(just not his family), Lo’ak constantly messing with the neatly organized jars followed by him getting chased out by a very irritated Y/n. It was peaceful then, when nothing bad could ever touch them, nothing could ever tear them apart. Not even Jake or Netyri, Lo’ak would spend the night in Y/n’s pod and ramble about anything and everything until his eye lids went heavy, but it’s Lo’ak here; he doesn’t stop talking then. It’s only when Y/n finally cuts in and tells him to finish the gibberish story in the morning, but the stories never continued and that was perfectly fine. Y/n knew the endings regardless, and Lo’ak knew Y/n’s stories like he was right there with them. But, as much as we would all enjoy a good ending, not all stories end with a happily ever after Dear reader. Especially not this one… It didn’t take long before the sky people gathered an army yet again, no matter how many times anyone tried, sky people spread like a wildfire. An infectious disease that no one has the cure to even if they tried. Sky people hunted Jake and his family no matter where they ran to, no matter how many lives they took. They would stop at nothing, and Y/n knew they needed to help. That is their main purpose to Eywa, help everyone, fall in love with a boy you know you cannot have, then rip that boy’s heart out of his chest and light it ablaze while it’s still beating. Eywa was cruel and harsh, she knew not everyone could have a happy ending with the person they thought of, no matter how much they loved the other. And much like any good story, it hurts when you wish and pray for it to end happily. Jake instructed everyone, making a plan with backups should anything go wrong, that was what Jake sully did. He thought everything out, nothing should go wrong.
It was painfully obvious that Jake sully hadn’t thought about this until it unfolded before his eyes: his son, huddled over his sister’s in a last stitch effort to protect them, Tuk’s soft cries and pleas for her parents fell on deaf ears, Kiri whispering prayers to the Great mother that they make it out alive. Spider next to his “father” Miles Quatich as if nothing was wrong with his “father” holding the people he grew up with hostage, of course Jake and Netyri were beyond pissed yet they could do nothing to stop the man who promised to kill their kids if Jake didn’t die first. Kiri still whispering prayers to her mother, the Great Mother seemed to hear them, the leathery wing beats of Ikran crowding the air, Y/n at the helm, they all dove; plummeting to the sea below.
Not missing a single beat, the normally upbeat and energetic Y/n looked dead, blood dripping from their digits as they stalked closer it was almost as if they could feel Eywa’s whispers reminding them that if they go through with this there won’t be any turning back. But like Eywa had expected, Y/n and dug their grave and was ready to lie in it. They fought tooth and nail against Spider and Quatich, giving Jake and Netyri the time to free their children and to run, because if they stayed they would surely die. Lo’ak never stopped calling out to Y/n, his voice harsh in his throat as it mixed with his sobs, being pulled away from the one other person who saw him. They watched it happen, the red glint of a long piece of metal cutting through their body at an unnatural angle, blood leaking from the new hole in their body but what none of them expected; they forced the metal to dig into Spider’s chest, watching Quatich’s face burn with anger and sorrow. Quatich soon followed by being torn in two by Ikran, a kinder way to go out compared to the searing pain that cut the adrenaline rush in half.
Spider’s body fell limp onto the cold deck of the boat and Y/n soon joined him, Lo’ak slipping through his parents arms and making a bee line to Y/n. “Hang on, Ma Y/n. Hang on.. please.” He begged through choked sobs. It didn’t take long for them to return, Ronal seeing the unfixable wound Y/n had faced, she took them to the Tree of Memories, where Y/n would be connected to the tree in hopes to keep them alive. It was a very difficult thing to find out, especially for Lo’ak, he had lost his brother and now his other half? Why was the great mother so cruel?
It had been months since it happened, Y/n’s body curled in on itself but only opened itself to Lo’ak, as of Y/n knew he was there. It was sad really, his best friend in a coma but knew exactly where he was and when. It took time before he could even think of connecting to the tree himself in hopes of talking to Y/n, but he tried it once and sobbed in his sister’s arms for hours. Y/n looked the same as the week before they left, before the day they left him. The pair talked for hours, Y/n always reminding him that he needs to go up for air. People barely saw Lo’ak, he was a ghost, a shell of the boy his family knew.
No one knew if you’d ever wake up, if you’d ever bring back Lo’ak’s soul, but everyday everyone felt guilty since the day you left. But it was true that no one saw one of you without the other, so they knew that Lo’ak had to be with you.

I’m not holding my breath yet. But I might have cracked my year-long Megakingdom CC troubles.
Somebody on the internet somewhere: you can cut down your load times by putting recolors in the main sims 2 folder instead of the downloads folder!
Me: oh, good idea! I’ll just use the download organizer, a program that is known for not always labeling things correctly, to move everything it deems “object recolors” to a new folder out there!
DDO:
So when I started trying to work with my medieval downloads again, I decided to use a technique that was helpful for my 18th century downloads, which was “dump everything into one folder (well, one of clothing/hair/buy/mods/defaults/build folders) and worry about sorting them neatly once I have everything in that I require.” Including this object recolors folder. When I moved the TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND files in that into my buy folder, it found several files with the same name.
Of course every time I ran SimPE’s GUID scanner or DDO’s duplicate finder they found nothing—the damn files weren’t in the downloads folder. Of course it couldn’t figure out where the Celtic bed set was when I tried to install a new version—if the old file was in that dumb folder, it would GUID clash with the new version, but also wouldn’t show in my game if the old mesh wasn’t in the actual downloads folder, which seems like a thing that could have happened!
I have some more conflicts to go over in SimPE and I haven’t done a test run yet, but I strongly suspect this is the root of the problem.

Multimeter: A multimeter helps you test the continuity and integrity of the cables and connectors. It can identify any wiring issues or shorts.
Cable Tester: A cable tester is a specialized tool designed for testing the integrity of CCTV cables. It can identify faults, such as open circuits or shorts, in the cable.
Screwdrivers and Wrenches: These tools are needed to secure cable connectors to the camera and DVR/NVR, as well as to tighten cable gland nuts for weatherproofing.
Techniques:
Identify the Issue: Before repairing or replacing CCTV camera cables, professional CCTV technician always identify the source of the problem. It could be a damaged cable, a faulty connector, or a loose connection.
Power Off: Always turn off power to the CCTV system before working on the cables. This ensures safety and prevents damage to equipment.
Cutting and Stripping: If replacing the cable entirely, cut it to the required length and strip the ends to expose the inner wires. Use wire strippers for this task.
Connector Attachment: If you’re using connectors, attach them to the cable ends using a crimping tool. Ensure that the connections are snug and secure.
Weatherproofing: For outdoor installations, use weatherproof cable glands or connectors to protect the cable connections from environmental factors like moisture and dust.
Testing: After repairs or replacements, use a multimeter or cable tester to check the continuity and integrity of the cables. Ensure that all connections are secure and functional.
Labeling: Properly label the cables to avoid confusion in the future. Use labels or markers to indicate the purpose of each cable (e.g., camera, power, audio).
Documentation: Maintain documentation of the cable layout and connections. This can be invaluable for troubleshooting and future maintenance.
Cable Management: Organize and secure the cables neatly to prevent tangling or damage. Use cable clips or ties for this purpose.
Power On and Testing: Once everything is connected and secured, power on the CCTV system and test the cameras to ensure they are functioning correctly. Check the DVR/NVR to confirm that it’s receiving video feeds from all cameras.
Points to Remember
Remember that working with CCTV cables requires a degree of technical skill and knowledge. If you’re unsure about any aspect of the repair or replacement process, it’s advisable to seek the assistance of a professional CCTV technician to ensure a reliable and effective installation.

Potion Lessons
Fandom: The Witcher
Pairing: Lambert/Jaskier
Summary: Jaskier sets out to learn how to make witcher potions. He is unsuccessful until Lambert's intervention.
Word count: 2521
Written for @witchertrickortreat for the prompt potion
Read on AO3 here
Jaskier squinted at the journal in front of him and wished, not for the first time, that Geralt had better handwriting. Honestly, it made snooping so much harder when he had to make out this basilisk scrawl. It also seemed to have gotten worse over the years they’ve been friends and if Jaskier didn’t know any better he’d say Geralt was doing this on purpose.
Even so, he wanted to be as helpful as possible and nothing was going to stop him, not even Geralt. He squinted at the page again and gods be kind does that say drowner brain. Jaskier took a deep breath. He knew the witcher’s potions were contrived of all sorts of nasty ingredients he knew that. But it is quite different to know that you had your tongue in a man’s mouth only moments after he drank something made out of drowner brains.
Jaskier took another moment to shudder internally before turning his attention back to the recipe for Swallow. He had found several recipes for different versions of the potion in Geralt’s notes, but it seemed you needed the same base for all of them. Well he thought, probably better to start as simple as possible right?
The simplest version only had three ingredients, drowner brain, celandine, and Dwarven spirit. Even after only having been in Kaer Morhen for a week, he was absolutely certain the witcher’s had all of that in the alchemy lab.
With that he got up, tucked Geralt’s journal under his arm and headed out into the hall. If he remembered correctly, the alchemy lab was all the way in the basement level of the keep. He wanted his potion making to be a surprise so hopefully he wouldn’t get lost or run into any of the wolves on his way down. Geralt and Vesemir went hunting today while Eskel and Lambert worked on some of the outside repairs to the crumbling keep, so he should be in the clear.
Even so Jaskier tried to keep his steps as quiet as possible as he made his way through the main hall and towards the back staircase that lead to the basement level of the keep. The basement level used to home to the mage’s work spaces Geralt had told him. It was also where the Trial of the Grasses had been administered. For some reason that had struck Jaskier as odd. He always thought of mages working out of tall spiraling towers, not dark claustrophobic basements. Just another lie from fairy tales Jaskier thought idly.
The rooms that used to be mage’s offices and testing rooms were now primarily used by the witchers as storage. He peaked in some of the rooms as he walked by to see everything from broken furniture, (“it’s good wood Jaskier, you can’t just get rid of it.” Geralt had informed him when he asked.) to barrels of alcohol (“s’not much else to do here all winter” Lambert had similarly informed him). Still yet there were more rooms completely boarded off. Even Jaskier had enough sense not to ask about those.
The one room that was as far as he could tell, actually used for its intended purpose was the alchemy lab. The room was a wide open space with large cabinets of potion ingredients and tools on one side and several work benches on the other. The table in the far right corner of the room held Lambert’s distillery equipment, next to which was a sign reading “ do not fucking touch this or else.”Jaskier placed the journal down on one of the work tables and headed over to the cabinets. Everything seemed to be organized alphabetically with neatly written labels, clearly not done by Geralt, Jaskier thought. After gathering the ingredients he needed along with a knife, bowl, and mortar and pestle, he returned to the work bench and laid everything out. He looked over Geralt’s notes again before glancing back at the ingredients laid out before him. The notes were not very specific about the actual method of potion making, they really just laid out the ingredients and amounts needed. They did mention that the dwarven spirit got added at the end which was helpful, but he really had no idea how to start.
He looked around once again at the equipment available to him. All there really was that he hadn’t grabbed or ruled out as helpful were a collection of burners. He had seen similar thing in the labs atOxenfurt and in mage’s labs throughout the years, but truthfully he didn’t actually know how it worked. Well, better to just ignore it and not risk burning down the keep he thought. He once again contemplated the ingredients before him. His best course of action he figured was to mash the celandine flowers with the pestle and cut the drowner brain into smaller pieces before doing the same. With that, Jaskier rolled up the sleeves of his chemise and got to work.
About an hour later he ended with something… that did not in any way resemble the potion he’d seen in Geralt’s bag and that was emitting a foul odor. Jaskier sighed and turned to the journal to see if he missed anything. As he was squinting at the pages trying to figure out where he went wrong, the door to the alchemy lab banged open. Jaskier jumped and fumbled with the journal to keep from dropping it in the mess he made, Lambert just raised a brow at him and headed over to his still.
_______________________________
Lambert tried his best not to groan at the sight of the bard in his alchemy lab, and yes it was his lab as he was the only one who could arsed to use it more than once a year and he was the one who kept everything neat and organized. It wasn’t that he didn’t like the bard, in fact he probably liked the bard too much and therein was the problem. Lambert did his best not to get too close, he wasn’t exactly sure of the relationship between Geralt and the bard, but there was certainly something there and he wasn’t about to get involved in their mess.
He set about checking his still, making sure everything was in order and brewing properly. Then, he caught the bard out of the corner of his eye heading to the cabinet where he kept his potion ingredients. Lambert had no idea what he was trying to accomplish but whatever it was it stunk to the high heavens and he was not about to let the bard waste anymore of his shit.
“Bard” he barked and once again Jaskier jumped before turning to look at him.
“What exactly do you think you’re doing?” he asked. At his Jaskier had the nerve to actually look offended.
“I am making potions what does it look like I’m doing?” Lambert’s eyes cut to the sludge in a bottle sitting on the work bench before looking back at Jaskier.
“I can assure you buttercup, whatever you’re making, it’s no potion I know of.”
At that Jaskier deflated a little and Lambert felt a tiny twinge of guilt at being the cause.
“Look I’m just…I’m trying to learn. I may not be of much use hunting or repairing walls, but I thought I could at least do this for all of you.”
And oh, that was interesting Lambert thought he had said for them not for Geralt. For just a second Lambert’s traitorous heart dared to hope.
“Well, I can’t have you stinking up my lab or wasting all my ingredients,” and oh Jaskier deflated even more at that, “so I guess I’ll just have to teach you.”
“Really? You would?” Jaskier perked up immediately.
“Yeah why not. Like I said, there’s nothing else really to do all winter.”
And so Lambert and Jaskier began meeting for a couple hours each day after training and chores to go over potions, their uses, properties, ingredients, and most importantly how to make them. To Lambert’s surprise Jaskier was a quick study and he even brought his own journal to start taking notes. It was…somewhat endearing to have someone take such an interest, especially in something others often brushed off as gross or unsavory. What Lambert wasn’t expecting was that he actually was enjoying sharing his knowledge and the different tweaks and improvements he found for their potions over the years.
There was just one issue. The bard was too…touchy. He would slide up close to Lambert to watch as he demonstrated something or lean in close as he was talking. A couple times he even asked if Lambert could guide his hands so he could “make sure he was chopping this correctly”. The touching wasn’t even bad, no the worst part was Lambert enjoyed the attention, but didn’t know what to do with it.
He wanted to scream from the frustration. Lambert was convinced that either Jaskier genuinely did not know the effect this was having on him or that it was some elaborate scheme to make Geralt mad.
He honestly didn’t want to believe it was the latter. Jaskier seemed like a good man, but he’d been burned by “good men” before both figuratively and literally. They were finishing up lunch when Jaskier gave him a cheery “I’ll meet you in the alchemy lab!” before heading down. As Lambert got up to bring his bowl into the kitchen he caught the knowing smirks on both his brother’s faces.
“What?”
“Nothing,” Eskel laughed, “just you know, have fun.”
“And be safe.” Geralt said with a mock serious express “We don’t need any baby bards running around.” With that they both dissolved into fits of laughter.
“The fuck are you on about. I’m not fucking the bard that’s your department” He leveled a glare at Geralt, silently grateful that he couldn’t really blush.
“What are you talking about? We’re not sleeping together.I mean yeah Jaskier is super affectionate but we’re just friends.” Geralt looked at him confused. After a moment of taking in Lambert’s obvious shock Eskel just said
“Oh Lamb, you’ve really just been teaching him about potions?”
Embarrassed, Lambert stormed out of the room towards their– no his– alchemy lab because it was still his, despite Jaskier spending as much time in there as he did, and helping keep it neat and even repairing one of the stools when it broke earlier in the winter. Lambert couldn’t help it as his frustration grew. What the fuck was even happening anymore. He walked down the hall pass boarded up rooms muttering about stupid brothers who needed to mind their own business and stupid bards that made him feel things.
When he got to his alchemy lab he threw open the door, the suddenness making Jaskier jump just like that first day weeks ago. Unlike that first day, Jaskier walked up to him and cradled his face in his hands.
“Oh Lamb, what’s wrong?” He asked softly and Gods if that didn’t just make Lambert fall a little harder.
“Nothing.” he said, pulling away, “Where did we leave off last time?”
_______________________________________________
Jaskier didn’t know where he went wrong. He thought things were going so well with Lambert. Ever since they started their potion lessons they had been getting closer. Jaskier was genuinely happy to just be friends with the other man, but as time went on he couldn’t help but fall a little bit in love. Lambert was just so smart and passionate. The ways he talked about the inner workings of potion making and his own modifications to the old recipes was, to put it simply, very attractive. And the way his face lit up when Jaskier asked a question or brought up a counterpoint made his whole day.
So he started flirting, just a little here and there, and it seemed like Lambert was receptive. But then he came in with that awful sad look on his face and things shifted. Their lessons were shorter now and Lambert seemed to be avoiding him, no longer bringing him books to read or joking over dinner. It wasn’t just him, he saw the worried and apologetic looks Geralt and Eskel kept giving them both. Finally, after the third day of avoidance Jaskier grew tired of it all. Winter wasn’t going to last forever and it was better he get to the bottom of this now.
After dinner that night he saw Lambert skulk down to his as always. Jaskier waited a minute and then got up to follow him. By the time he arrived in the lab Lambert was already over at the far wall, tinkering with his still.
“Lambert,” Jaskier said, closing the door behind him “we need to talk.”
“What about?” Lambert responded still not looking up
“Whatever it is that’s been bothering you and why you’re avoiding me.”
“Oh” Lambert stilled for a moment “no, we don’t.” he went back to tinkering with his equipment.
Jaskier sighed.
“Look it’s fine if you don’t want to teach me anymore, but I just, I just thought we were finally becoming friends, that’s all”
He watched as Lambert took in his words and his shoulders sagged before he turned around to finally face Jaskier. He opened his mouth as if to say something then closed. He instead let out a deep sigh and ran his hand over his slicked back hair. And oh despite his words about being friends, Jaskier longed to run his fingers through that hair.
Finally, Lambert spoke, “You see that’s the problem we’re friends. At first I thought you were fucking Geralt, but then you kept getting closer, leaning on me, wanting to touch and shit and I–” another sigh “I thought it might mean something, you know, romantic” He emphasized the last word with a vague hand gesture.
“But then I find out you were never fucking Geralt and he says you’re just like that whatever the fuck that means. And I– ugh”
“And you thought I didn’t want something romantic with you and you were hurt so you pulled back.” Jaskier finished.
“Not exactly.” Lambert wouldn’t look at him and his hands were fidgeting like he needed something to hold, “You don’t have to love me, I would never– never expect that of you, but i just can’t stand being so close and not …having that.” Lambert seemed to sag under the weight of his confession and oh that mad Jaskier’s heart ache.
He quickly crossed the room to where the witcher was standing and looped his arms around his neck. Lambert looked up at him, tentative and confused.
“And what if I told you you could have that, we could have that.”
“Really?”
“You think I would flirt like that if I wasn’t serious?”
“You’ve literally made out with Geralt. Tongue and everything.” Lambert reached up to wrap his arms around Jaskier’s waist.
“What’s a little kiss between friends?”
“You’re an idiot”
“Hmmm, but your idiot?”
“Yeah, sure”
Lambert just pulled him closer and his smile was bright as anything.

A Taste of His Own Medicine- Satan
While it was well known among the household that the second and fourth among the brothers were ill, Lucifer banned you from contact with Satan. Mammon was now well on the mend thanks to your efforts, so you figured you would help the eldest out with Satan. Lucifer was constantly busy, not to mention the fact that his knowledgeable younger brother was expending all his strength in keeping his brothers away. It seemed like the logical choice, and rarely did Lucifer prevent you from keeping an eye on his brothers. So why now of all times?
“He’s being...unreasonable,” was Lucifer’s answer. Out of all the possible reasons, this seemed among the most pathetic. You supposed it was better than his typical “because I said so” response.
“If I remember correctly, you were also pretty unreasonable,” you stated, a smirk curling across your lips. He just scowled, glaring you up and down. He leaned back in his cushy seat in his study, placing his much too expensive pen down by the pile of work he needed to finish by tonight.
“And if I remember correctly, we agreed it would not be discussed again.” His sharp expression softened just a touch, a light shade of pink gracing his cheeks as he recalled how you took care of him in his weakened state. He brushed staggering hairs away from his forehead and sighed, folding his arms in front of his chest. “His body and mind have been weakened, therefore he has no control over his anger. He is wrath, and I shudder to think what may befall you should you try to talk to him right now.” He looked deep into your eyes, taking note of your unwavering stance and stern composition. “And yet I suspect you’re going to go see him anyway.”
He had that right. So with a look equal parts exhaustion and worry, Lucifer lifted the magical lock placed on Satan’s room, ensuring that, at the very least, Beel would be just outside should anything happen.
You took a deep breath, clutching to your chest some medicine and a hardcover book from the human world containing old fables. You knocked on the door, loudly stating your presence before entering Satan’s room. You were pleased to find that so far you were unharmed, which was admittedly a great first step.
However, you quickly found yourself awash in a sea of books. Normally, Satan had his room as neatly organized as a professional library, everything had a place, except now, it looked like a bomb had gone off. Books and scrolls were haphazardly stacked, covering the floor, basically everywhere. You couldn’t even see his bed, it was hidden somewhere in this labyrinth of tomes.
You held your breath, you didn’t even dare breathe for fear everything around you would come tumbling down. The last thing you wanted was to be crushed to death, and if the books didn’t kill you, you had a wary feeling Satan might. So you carefully weaved your way through slender passageways in the piles before you found, what you assumed, was Satan’s bed.
The reason you could only ‘assume’ is because at this juncture in time it hardly looked like a bed at all. Just a quick glance and it would’ve matched any other mess in this room. It was camouflaged with more books, torn pages, binders, etc. you had a passing thought about checking if there were any shows about demon hoarders down here.
You could see a jagged green-tipped tail dangling from beneath the bed-pile. It twitched and flicked, sending some novels skidding across the floor. You inhaled deep through your nose.
“Satan? It’s me.”
Satan’s tail whipped across the space between you and the bed, striking at one of the impossibly high stacks of books, sending it teetering and tottering threateningly before crashing down. If you hadn’t taken a few steps back, you would’ve been under that pile. You huffed to yourself. You wanted to help him and this was how he was treating you?
“Satan, please.” A book whizzed past your head and you winced, feeling a little paper cut start to sting on your cheek. The air in the room was hot. You knew these were demons. You knew they were capable of destroying you in seconds, but that didn’t stop your stubborn nature from feeling absolutely offended. And so, as if you had a death wish, you scolded him.
“Satan!” You strutted over, throwing the covers back and sending even more clutter to the floor, but at least you could look at him. But a part of you wished you couldn’t.
He looked absolutely feral. His hair was messy and untamed. His teeth were bared as his mouth formed a menacing scowl. His eyes were glowing an unnatural green, reminding you of shows where beasts eyes shone in the shadows. You could hear a deep rumble emanate from his chest, and it wasn’t till he pressed himself against the back wall, knees close to his chest that you put your fear beside yourself.
Yes, at first glance you may have been entirely convinced he was going to tear your throat out, but then you ran your gaze over him a few times. His face was covered in patches of deep red. He was only wearing a green long-sleeved shirt and stripped boxers. There was a sheet of paper skewered onto one of his horns, and he now was curled up protectively against the wall in a little ball.
“Get out,” he demanded. It would’ve maybe been threatening sounding if his lungs didn’t sound as if he swallowed a squeaky toy. He was wheezing, fingertips shaking, and his tail protectively curling up against his legs, the tip of it quivering.
To be honest you wouldn’t leave this room right now for all the Grimm in the Devildom. “I’ll leave after I’m done helping you out a bit,” you assured him, but he didn’t want that answer.
“Get out!” He clutched another book in his hand and chucked it in your direction with a shout, this time missing you by a mile. You blinked. Was he...having a tantrum?
You had to stifle your smile with a little cough. “Satan, throwing stuff at me isn’t going to make me leave any faster, so cooperate and I’ll be out of here as soon as possible.” He had no retort or nearby ammo left so he tucked his face into his knees and let you get to work. It would take you hours to clean the room, but you did what you could for the moment, tidying up the chaos surrounding his bed. How he would’ve slept with that mess on him was beyond your understanding. Or maybe that was one of the reasons why he was being so cranky.
You shook off his blankets, puffed up his pillow, and then took a hesitant look at the medicine you’d put on his nightstand. Lucifer had told you where to get it, it was a powerful medication that tasted as bad as the one taking it felt. It was also administered as a liquid, because for all their power, they hadn’t made pills a normal thing yet. You had no idea how you were going to get Satan to take it.
Maybe being sweet first. “Satan,” you cooed, sitting yourself beside him on the bed while he remained curled up in a tight angry ball. “I have some medicin-“
“No.”
That didn’t work. Maybe begging? “Satan, please, please, please, pleaaaaase take-“
“Bite me.”
You scoffed aloud. He was absolutely, without a doubt, being bratty and rude. You took a moment to recall how you convinced Lucifer and Mammon. Lucifer was only won over when you stood your ground and told him what to do for a change, challenging his pride. Mammon, you gave him exactly what he wanted to hear. With wrath...did you?
“Satan, I swear to God above and Diavolo below, if you don’t quit moping around and refusing to take care of yourself, I’m going to shove this entire freaking thing down your throat till it’s the only thing you can taste for decades!” You raised your voice, shouting at him with a fury in your chest you’d never used before, ever. Especially not against Satan. You didn’t want to die that badly. But you were alive, and instead of smoke coming out of his ears, Satan looked up at you from behind messy bangs. He looked shocked beyond belief, his mouth slightly ajar. He uncurled himself from his position and sat up slowly, his head looking down.
“Tch.” He puffed air through his teeth, giving in finally. It was like you had won the lottery. You hummed to yourself in success taking the cap off the bottle and pouring in the medicine. It smelt awful, and you felt for him, but if it was going to make him feel better, he needed it. You held it up to his lips. He growled in frustration but then parted his mouth to let you pour in the foul mixture.
He looked like he was going to be sick. He slumped his posture and began to release shuddering coughs. You instinctively put a hand on his back and rubbed up and down. Once he was done with the episode, he sat back up, swaying in his seat back and forth until you held onto him, gently bringing him back down onto his pillow. You moved the hair out of his eyes and sighed in relief. Thanks to whatever magic Devildom medicine had, his redness had already gone drastically down, and he looked fairly calm for now.
His eyelids couldn’t tell if they wanted to be open or shut, like he was struggling to fight sleep. You got up off his bed and pulled the covers tighter around him, urging him to go to bed. You told him you’d finally leave him alone, and picked up the book you had forgotten you’d brought with you. He grabbed your wrist before you could even attempt to leave, he sleepily read the cover before letting his hand drop back onto the mattress.
“I bought that...for you,” he mumbled. With a grin, you nodded. He had bought it for you during the adventure to London. It was filled with old fairytales and fables, the authentic gruesome kind, not the kind human kids grew up on, which Satan had labeled as ‘disgusting dull-headed drabble’.
“I brought it here for you, but you need sleep, besides you have plenty of other books here…” your voice trailed off as you reached for the horn that still had the paper stuck to it. You yanked it free with a light chuckle.
“Will you…” Satan started, gripping at his own sheets so tight you thought he would rip holes in them. “Read...to me?” Your heart soared so fast you almost went lightheaded. You sat back down on his bed, fussing over him just a bit more to fix his messy hair. He groaned as you did but let you do it anyway.
“Of course, I’ll read for you whenever, Satan.” You flipped the book open to the first page, reading about terribly sad events with a terribly soft voice. Every so often he’d correct you if you fumbled on a word, but eventually he went to sleep. You could see his eyeballs moving frantically under his eyelids as he slept. He’d say some incomprehensible word in his sleep while his fingers twitched in random increments.
You used the stray paper that had been on his head as a bookmark, placing it back on his nightstand for later. “I guess they all get to live happy ever after this time,” you whispered to him in his unconscious state before you pressed the back of your hand against his cheek and wished him sweet dreams.

25 Days of Christmas Day 1
Pairing: Lancelot x MC
Prompt: “We’re snowed in.”
Tagging: @plumpblueberry @christmaswarlock @sakura-1819 @starry-starry-night24 @kissmetwicekissmedeadly @thewitchofbooks @stardust-dreamer13 @ikemensengokufangirl @gay-noodle-clan
A/N: Day 1 is complete! Some mischief Alice and Lance to kick off our holiday season!
Headquarters had never been so quiet, so serene. Peace had settled over Cradle like the blanket of snow that coated the land. The holidays approached quickly, and for the first time ever, nearly all of the officers had left headquarters with time off, variously dispersing to family homes or Central Quarter.
Then the snowstorm hit.
The winds howled, throwing flakes like blades through the air with speed that limited visibility to practically nothing. It dropped the temperature to an unbearable degree. The few soldiers on duty braved the bad weather on their patrols.
But within the main building, the only two occupants were unaffected by the storm.
“We’re snowed in,” Lancelot announced, shedding his cape and military jacket, draping them over a chair in the dining hall. The dusting of snow melting into the fabric was the only remnants of his attempt to go outside.
Alice set the cooking sheet on the stove top, gasping softly to herself. Mischief in both her eyes and wicked smile that touched her lips. “Then, that means, we have the entire building to ourselves.”
“I suppose it does.” He recognized that expression well. Rolling up crimson sleeves to his elbows, Lancelot leaned against the door frame. “Did you have something you’d like to do?”
She carefully transferred the warm, chocolate chip cookies onto the cooling rack with a spatula, bobbing her head in response. “Far too many to complete in one night, but Jonah isn’t here.” A very rare occurrence, she’d come to learn over the years.
Lancelot simply waited to hear what she was thinking. He’d witness his second in command and his girlfriend argue over many topics. Many instances, neither of them actually won.
“He isn’t here to dictate how to hang up the decorations, so we can do whatever we want!”
Her giggled of utter delight brought a tender smile to her lover’s lips. “I do recall a situation last year.” Quite the commotion if he remembered correctly.
As if a switch had flipped, her features fell at the memory. Pink lips stuck out in a grumpy pout. “He locked me in a closet for two hours because I wanted to use wreaths instead of garland in the dining hall. Jonah can be so childish.”
“I reprimanded him for it.”
“I think he secretly enjoys it.”
Their eyes met and the pair broke out in laughter together. Alice removed her apron, folding it neatly and placing it on the counter. With a skip in her step, she caught his hand as she exited the kitchen. “We can decorate together. It’ll be fun.”
Anything is fun when you smile at me that way.
“I’ll assist. Where shall we begin?”
There was no shortage of decorations. Every box was labeled and organized with expert care, likely due to the strict instructions of the Queen of Hearts. He’d likely explode at the mess the two were making.
“Careful, you’ll fall,” Lancelot said, reaching up to steady her, hands on her hips. The step ladder creaked as it teetered to the left.
“I’ve almost... got it!”
The ornament hooked the garland, swaying side to side before nestling into place. Alice twisted on the ladder with a triumphant grin. “See? Nothing to worry about.” Her palms rested against his shoulders and she hopped down to the floor. “Do we have any more boxes of these?”
“I believe so. I’ll go retrieve it. No climbing until I’ve returned,” Lancelot answered, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. He couldn’t have her causing injury to herself, especially without Kyle on the premises to treat her.
The attic had little dust, always being kept clean under Jonah’s command. Lancelot picked up the box that she’d requested before returning down to the main floor. The lights kicked off, signaling the late hour. He nearly turned them back on but chose not to.
The crystal string lights they’d strung only an hour early, twinkled in the hallway, creating an ethereal glow. It danced across the crimson carpet, enticing him to follow where it led. But when he turned the corner, he found the ladder abandoned. Icy blue irises scanned the glittering corridor, but no traces of his beloved remained.
Except for a piece of paper with the words come find me scribbled in her handwriting, with a little heart drawn beside them. Lancelot tucked the paper into his pocket, abandoning the box to pursue her. “Alice, you should know I’ll always find you.”
Lancelot slinked through the darkened hallways, his steps silent. Even with no one here, she’d never invade his officer’s privacy, and some closets required a key, leaving her only a few options. He reasoned that she’d likely stay away from closing herself in a room at all, as it would trap her.
No, she was here, near.
A crunch under his boot caused the King to glance down. His head tilted slightly as he knelt. Inspecting the piece, he chuckled softly. Snacking while hiding? How very Alice of her. Likely unbeknownst to her, it would lead him right to her.
Her gaze was away from him, body tense as she took slow, purposeful steps backwards. Her shoulders trembled slightly, hand covering her mouth as she laughed.
“Alice?”
The woman jumped and whirled around to run from the direction the voice appeared to come, only for her to collide into the very man she’d been hiding from. “Lance!” Her bottom lip stuck out in a pout as she poked her finger against his chest. “You used magic! That’s cheating!”
His arm slipped around her waist, tugging her body flush with his. He brushed his thumb across her cheek, an amused smirk on his face. “I don’t recall any rules.”
All her contesting of the game melted away as he stole a tender kiss. Their lips meeting again and again. Her fingers twisted around in his shirt, both pushing to be closer than they already were. With no one to see, the two showered each other in affection.
Lancelot stooped to slip his hand beneath her knee, lifting her up to cradle her against his chest. Her slight squeal of both surprise and excitement only fueled him. The boxes of decorations scattered all throughout headquarters became forgotten.
“I’ve caught you, and I have no intention of letting you go.”

Feeling pretty comfortable reclaiming "crazy" as a slur tbh ("mad" also). Even years after getting diagnosed correctly I still have little control over switches, so much identity confusion, so much "made" actions/feelings/thoughts, my physical health & mental state are both extremely unpredictable & unstable over days, weeks, & even months. Combine D.I.D. with Conversion Disorder, CPTSD, complex chronic pain, and all the other very uncommon components & marginalizations of my situation (being trans, a power wheelchair user, extremely poor, a practicing pagan, etc etc just edges me further out onto the fringes of society)... "crazy" just feels like my normal now. Like, I still have apparent physical injuries just appear out of nowhere and it's nearly impossible to determine that they're really conversion symptoms and not actually organic. It feels like even my body itself is crazy, to say nothing of my mental states.
Saying I'm crazy is like, anything but a diagnosis. Crazy, for me personally, isn't experiencing things that aren't real, which is how most people (especially neurotypicals) think of it, it's experiencing things which most other people can't comprehend as being real. It's not lacking a grasp on reality, it's other people not being able to grasp my reality. It's existing somewhere outside the general consensus reality. "Crazy" is a box people put you in when they can't imagine you fitting in any of the tidy, neatly labelled boxes they have for people because your lived reality threatens to overturn their little epistemological taxonomy.
Well, I'm keeping the box and I'll going at it with the markers and box cutter and duct tape and they can't stop me lol. I always loved the Mad Pride movement/counter-culture for so many reasons, and over time I guess those reasons have finally become as personal as they are political.
(Neurotypicals do not interact with this)
