MTLK: White Lions

((Same rules as before: Put spoiler warnings on the very top of your comments before commenting spoilers. The film is still very new this time around and I , myself, have not seen it yet, I'll see it as soon as I can, though. Once I do, there will be more fanart based on knowledge I have of the movie after seeing it. This drawing is a byproduct of the things I already knew.))

As a (slightly late) celebration of the long-awaited release of the Mufasa movie today, I made 2D-verse designs of the main members of Kiros' pride we were introduced to via this clip.

Design process below:

I felt that Kiros needed an update to his design from the last time I drew him. I felt I was following the features of his photorealistic counterpart too much and came up with a way too detailed lion who didn't quite fit the 2D-verse. I still went for that ice-themed shape language for his design, such as sharp points and slight hexagon shapes. I referenced Mads Mikkelsen's features just as the creators of Kiros' design said they have done, themselves. I can tell they went for that same technique that Andreas Deja once used when applying Jeremy Iron's features and expressions to 2D Scar.

As you can probably see, Amara and Akua instantly reminded me of Zira and Vitani, respectively. As soon as I saw the preview featuring them, I instantly got the vibes of already-existing lionesses based on their designs and personalities. They also gave me, like, Tarantino villainess vibes a little. Something about these femme fatale assassins working for the greedy and conniving big bad guy made me think of something out of Kill Bill.

I'm still uncertain which one lioness is Amara and which is Akua, or whether these are even their names or not at all. I heard these are Kiros' sisters? I definitely see it in Akua, she looks like she could be his identical twin.

Akua. Half-koi, half-lanternshark. Got adopted as an egg by Mano and his boyfriend, Kai (my partner's OC).

I don't have much info about him yet, but he has a very calm nature. Maybe plays a guitar or something.

Brief Description:

Akua has sea foam green hair. Her eyes have heterochromia, with her right eye being orange and the the left being brown.

Akua is a carefree and go-with-the-flow kind of person, who enjoys riding along the current of life more so than actively pushing against trouble. This has landed them in trouble in the past, most notably how hurt she got from “friends” in her academy days. Because of this, they are slow to trust new people, but will care deeply for those she does get attached to.

Her easygoing nature can clash with Kaori’s short-temperedness, with Chihiro being the reluctant mediator between them. But when pushed to, she will act accordingly and fight for the people she loves and cares about most.

What were they afraid of as a child? Are they still afraid of it?

Chihiro Osaka

Chihiro was terrified of strangers when she was young. Particularly adult strangers. Assassination and kidnapping attempts will do that to you for sure.

I’d say there’s still that nervousness she has, but she’s not as afraid now cuz she knows she can defend herself, and she has people she can depend on.

Kaori Yumeno

Kaori was afraid of confrontation as a child. Anytime there was an argument, she would try to find some way to hide.

She still has that fear, but it’s not as prominent. She’s definitely able to speak her mind and isn’t afraid to fight now!!

Akua Koizumi

Akua was afraid of upsetting others. Just didn’t really wanna cause trouble.

I’d say it’s still there, but it’s not as strong. Definitely prefers doing their own thing, and if people she doesn’t really care about don’t like it oh well!

Makoto Osaka

When she was a child, Makoto was afraid of disappointing the elders and her parents. They put all their time and effort into her, and the honor of the clan rests on her shoulders. What if she fails??? As she got older, it didn’t come up as often, until she had to choose a suitor to marry and she panicked cuz she just had little interest in any of them.

This fear is pretty much gone now though. Chihiro is much more important to her than the opinions of the elders.

Shoto Hyuga

When he was younger, Shoto was terrified of Hiashi. He didn’t fully understand why, but he did have that bit of fear whenever he was around. Definitely made sure he could see his parents and wasn’t left alone with him. (It’s cuz of the curse mark and how Hiashi initially wanted to place it on him too. Tho he changed his mind later lmao)

He still has that underlying fear, but it’s not as bad as when he was younger

Aiko Osaka

She’s still young, but one fear she had when she was very little was never seeing her parents again.

Definitely still has that fear

Jade Lee

Had a fear of getting seriously hurt when she was younger. Even more so about people she cares about, especially her twin brother Metal.

The fear of herself getting hurt doesn’t really exist anymore, but she still worries about her brother.

I think Game Freak should bring back the Honoguma and Kurusu lines. I don't mind if they're starters, part of a starter-based trio (think the Elemental Monkeys), random counterpart lines (like Numel and Carvanha), pseudo-legendaries (unlikely, especially seeing as it's been six generations since more than one was introduced in a generation), a legendary duo (preferably the main one, anyway it's unlikely), random event Pokémon (think Walking Wake and Iron Leaves) or anything else. I just think it would be cool to take Honoguma, Kurusu, Borubea, Akua, Dynabea and Akueria (directly) out of beta purgatory

That and I don't like the Totodile line
