Update 6/16/2024

Small but detailed update.

My laptop's fan stopped working and the battery was bulging. Instead of getting a new battery and fan I decided to just get a new damn laptop.

I'm already annoyed with it. I'm thinking about returning it to get the much cheaper but identical one or to just get a new battery and fan for my old one. (Unless I can get my folders to not hang, or get my images to actually preview.)

There's also still a whole lot of personal stuff going on.

Pokemon:

+I looked through the Spaceworld 1999 sprites again to see Honoguma's rework into Teddiursa for it's color scheme (it shares one with Kotora at the time, so I didn't use it for anything) but I finally noticed this thing.

Girafarig was going to have a pre-evolution. They looked like generic ghosts in the 1997 and 1998 builds- nothing like Girafarig. So I wasn't going to use it. For some reason it didn't click to me for me that they had a third design that was much closer to Girafarig until I looked through the list of 1999 Pokemon again. So I decided to make one with this back as a reference... Using the same Girafarig sprite that is used in my game.

I replaced the front Girafarig sprites with their Diamond and Pearl ones, since I used the ones that came with Essentials to make Girig.

I'm calling it "Girig." I am almost certain that that would be what Nob would call a baby Girafarig. (He was the English translator for the games for many generations.)

There's no "female" variant or icon for Girig right now, though I probably will at least get the icons done before I upload this build.

Because I'm doing this I'm also going to be adding Farigiraf.

Girig -Happiness-> Girafarig -Level 38-> Farigiraf

I'll have Girafarig available to catch in Route 4 (the route after Fulgora) and one part in the Safari Zone. I'll also have Girig be one of the eggs you can get from the Pokemon Breeder on Nemorensis, and be one of the eggs you could get every Friday if you own a Daycare Center that Ollie works in.

Graphics:

-I finally realized that I didn't replace the sprites when you're looking at the starter Pokemon and the preview of them pops up, so I finally did that.

And in case I failed to do this before, comparisons!

The 1997 demo that was leaked was in black and white, so I didn't know what color the Pokemon would be. There has been a colored version that was available, and one blurry screenshot from it that showed Honoguma as being orange here. (And Metapod as being red for some reason.) I got the red color scheme from some fan art that somebody who got to play the original demo drew here.

I also just wanted it to look better.

Despite knowing that Chikorita has been pretty consistent throughout the stages of Gold and Silver, and that the artist made some changes to it, I'm keeping the golden eyes, the "blobby" backside and those horn things so it still have differences in comparison to canon Chikorita.

The only changes I made to Kurusu was through shading, so I'm not going to bother doing a comparison of them here.

I also recolored Honoguma's shiny since the yellow and black looked too close to the orange and black. I did that when I was high off of a birth control shot and I don't know where I saved it, if I saved it. I'll be changing that if I ever find it. (Or recolor it.)

This is assuming that I didn't dream that I recolored them.

Headcanons About Underdeveloped Muses:

1. Hibiki Kodai

Hibiki is the protagonist of Pokemon Gold and Silver, but from the Spaceworld Demos. Right before his own world succumbed to destruction at the entropy of Missingno, he took with him a pink Marill, a Rinrin, and his starter Honoguma - all of which are believed to be the only survivors of their kind due to that universe's destruction.

Fun fact: Hibiki is 100% a 90s kid and finds comfort in the old 90s aesthetic. He's also great with technology of that era but terrible at more modern tech. He doesn't understand today's smartphones: as he's used to keitai flip phones (the Japanese feature phones that had many smartphone features before they came to other countries), he sees modern smartphones as one half of the phone that costs twice as much as the whole thing used to! Even when learning how much technology has evolved, he still refers to them as "half phones" and refuses to use them on principle or whatever. If he gets a modern smartphone, it'll be something like the Samsung Flip or Samsung Fold.

Barunda, (a cute balloon Pokemon that didn’t make it into the game), and beta Celebi, and Celebi~

Honoguma (cut fire bear starter Pokemon), a newer design but yellowish, and then Teddiursa~

More early versions of Pokémon Gold and Silver were found! And with them came many more early/cut designs for both trainers and Pokémon!

My favorite of them has to be the early design for the main player character. He just looks a lot more cooler and slicker than he does in the final.

Judging from very early gameplay footage and screenshots, I always thought that he had a different design than what we got in the Spaceworld 97′ demo or the final game. And, I was right!

I don’t think nobody else had gotten to drawing him yet. So, I tried to draw him based on this sprite alone. I put Honoguma on top of his hat to fill in more space.

Story:

-If you’re dating Rebecca, Kiana will no longer tease her when you visit the lab while she’s working.

+I actually finished all of the spouse’s shared schedules now. I forgot a part before.

+Finished Rebecca’s and Ollie’s post-marriage schedules.

Pokemon:

-I kind of realized two things. So I replaced Pidgey with Fletchling on Route 1 (the first part of Route 1) and Clefairy with Pidgey on Route 3. (The first part of Route 3. The second part still has Clefairy available.) I did this:

1. To make a fire Pokemon that isn’t Honoguma or the small chance of getting a Peticorn (what I called the Ponyta baby Pokemon) before the grass gym.

And 2. To make Pidgey not as easily available after I realized how I made it be the link to an OP Pokemon really early in the game.

You can still get Pidgey pretty early in the cave, but you still have to earn your first badge to get there so I think I’ll leave it.

-I increased the level Joroo needs to evolve into a Kangaskhan from level 28 to level 34. I did this because Kangaskhan is almost a pseudo-legendary. (I also changed the blog page to reflect this.)

-Adjusted some of the Pokemon’s stats, mostly by making them stronger than weaker.

Graphics:

-Updated Riley’s overworld sprites slightly to match his portrait more accurately. I should probably redesign Riley at some point. I don’t have any ideas though.  

I should probably redesign a lot of characters.  

-Worked on changing some shinies that are too similar-looking to their originals again...  While playing Fire Emblem: Engage.

-I finally realigned all of the faces, mouths and eyebrows so they’re in the same position. (Using Alan’s chin for the adults as a base, and Hiroshi’s for the children.)

-Re-revamped Raitora’s front sprite. (As much as I could.)

-Updated the Usaki line’s colors and changed their shiny colors.

+Made on a second wave character. (A character who will only appear in the second big build.) Though they might not show up right away. (I might upload the second wave before working on what I made her for.)

Misc.:

-When you’re trying on a “special outfit” at the mall, your character will walk around in it. I slowed the speed down to it’s slowest so you can actually see it in action.

-Replaced Setsuko’s Rhyhorn with Komuno. (A Pokemon that isn’t available to the player yet.)

-You can now buy a Honoguma, Happa and Kurusu doll from Ceres.
