I’m only at Season 3 but I need everyone to watch The Sopranos because you would think that one of the main shows that inspired Bojack Horseman would be a serious, gritty crime drama and don’t get me wrong, it is serious and genuinely a revelatory piece of television but at the same time a 13 year old discovers existentialism, people are seeing ghosts, literally basing their sources on dreams or trying to write a fucking film. Might be one of the funniest conceptual shows that completely works in practice.

the anthonys get a high percentage of dudebro fans hating them far beyond the reasons anybody could actually find the characters obnoxious too, and casting that hate upon their actors as they grow up dang (iler did have some bullshit he did though if you ask sopranos dudebros his crime was not growing up to be a big strong manly man and THAT must be why aj didn't become a mob guy)

When watching the show I thought that AJ is a great character, with deep complexities and Robert Iler did an outstanding job at portraying him. I was so immersed in his plot that in the last seasons he was the one that would bring me so much joy just from watching him (I adore him). So it was a surprise for me when I finished the show and searched on the internet that the inputs other people have of him vary a lot from mine. I really cannot make a deep dive on what I think of him because it's been a while since I watched the show and I don't remember many things but I'm planning on watching it again and let's see if at the end of it I still view him the same or my point of view has changed.

Still I believe he's an overly underrated character.
