i just realized part of my absolute discomfort w the five being given a relationship in s4 is that the fans of it remind me of every person who spoke out against adult men sexualizing emma watson as a child but defended or participated in doing the same thing to daniel radcliffe.

like it doesnt matter if you are saying the relstionship is good writing, it was still the writers waiting for aidan to be old enough to kiss a woman in her 30s. Beyond that, they used Ritu, they did not actually care about the idea of there being a compelling relationship between the two. They just desperately needed an older woman five would actually go for because they recognized that five wouldnt just date around.

and every person I have seen defending it are women who are currently the same age as the people defending the sexualization of young daniel radcliffe were. everyone ive seen has been old enough to be in Ritu's shoes in the relationship, and that worries me. You shouldnt be able to write off someone your age in a relationship w someone that young. Like kissing a 19 yr old in your 30s is predatory (in their case the writers were the predatory aspect). even if you have good suspensions of disbelief, thats still someone in his mid 20s with a 40 year old. as someone in their mid 20s, it would be super gross if a 40 year old approached me for a relationship. and as the older and more mature party, it is on the 40 year old to turn down that relationship if approached by someone so much younger.

anyone who argues that fives mind is much older, theyve proven that he did not actually spend that time growing up and learning proper socialization at all. Also i would like to point to how gross it is when its written that its fine that someone is dating a 12 year old cause theyre an immortal and have been around thousands of years.

physical age matters more than mental age and saying shit like 'theyre so much more mature then their age implies' is literally a tactic groomers use so by normalizing it for media, you are showing children that its a fine defense against such relationship gaps.

also ive seen people say that the cheating is the main issue with it and ??? thats the one issue that is addressed. like that is the one thing that they didnt play for laughs, they actually had contention about it.

Okay so while I'm thinking about it let me tell yall about a real interaction I was a part of last night.

My d&d group is made up of people ages 18-30. The 18 year old is just entering college and we are all very proud and supportive and last night after our session we stayed online to chat and learn about skippidy Ohio Rizz. At one point 18 end up saying that they had recently slept with someone 36 bc they like making questionable choices and I was like 'Mood. I remember when my back didn't hurt'

But another player, 24, was HORRIFIED. Like out loud said "No you cant" which made 18 go "Why not?"

"Because you aren't old enough to understand that kind of age gap yet"

They said this to their face. You aren't old enough to understand that.

So I said "Uh no 18 is an adult and can fuck who they want" and then me and the other 30 agreed that by the time 18 was 30 they would DEFINITELY look back on some of these choices like omg but that's part of the journey.

I know it's so hard to look at an 18 year old and not see the child they are still growing out of but they are growing into adults. They can do adult things and make adult mistakes. They'll also still make some kid mistakes! And choices that turn out to not be mistakes but could have been better, and so many other wonderful and something dangerous things.

And allllll of that aside I'd much rather have a friend who knows they won't be shamed for their sexual partners bc if something does turn out to be a mistake then maybe they'll feel okay telling me and I can actually provide the support I would have loved when I was young and stupid.

Like really, throwing this words in relation to adults downplays its actual weight in its actual fucking meaning, and this is really scary.
