Working on a (re)beading project! My mom recently purchased this áo dài to wear to a wedding. It is extensively beaded, but the design doesn’t suit her style at all, and the workmanship is really poor. So I’m removing all of those sequined curlicues and reworking them to be more restrained and elegant:

This little section is on the back shoulder. You can see that I also replaced the neckline edging (and did the same on the cuffs as well). I reused some of the beads that I reclaimed from the original work and mixed in some from my own stash to add some visual interest and improve the overall effect. The original seed beads were very dull and sad-looking. If you plan on beading something important and you want it to look really good, invest in Japanese-made seed beads. Toho and Miyuki are two excellent brands to look into.

#pancake talks textiles #i can’t be too mad about the workmanship because she paid $50 for it and all the beadwork is done by hand #but they definitely took the laziest route because of it #you can tell the work was done by someone experienced and relatively skilled but it was definitely #not done with quality in mind #and yes that is my fucking go-to leaf design lol
