Another high scoring game and another game where everyone else seemed to think I did better than I thought.
It started out even mostly before I let in a bit of a soft goal and then a very soft goal on a weird bouncing shot. But then I made a great outlet pass to get a breakaway for our top scorer who put it away to get us going on the other end. I made sure after the game that I got credit for that assist since they missed the last one I should've gotten.
We got another goal in the second period off a weird deflection, and then it was back and forth. We had leads, but they always managed to tie it up, and we couldn't seem to get more than one ahead. I felt only their last goal was one I had no chance to save, and they scored 5, so that was very frustrating personally. And, sure, all of the goals did include some defensive mistakes that contributed, but I still should have had the saves, so I was unhappy about it.
But at least our offense was going well, with some good breakaway chances and some good passing goals and good crash the net rebound goals, and by the end of regulation, it was tied at 5. We played through the overtime with only one good chance either way, but unfortunately, our captain put his shot just wide, so we went to a shootout.
I felt I did well in the shootout, facing some good and fast skaters (for this level). I saved the first two, and on the other end, there was one save and one shot that beat the goalie but bounced off the post and out. Our third shot was another save, and I got my arm to their third shot but not enough to stop it, and we lost, which was disappointing.
It was a fun game though and good to have the team playing well and scoring goals, I just really wish I could've done better, and we would have won.
Picture is a sign outside the junior team locker room.

worst thing about free time is deciding what to do with it. it is a travesty that it is impossible to knit, draw, write, read, watch a movie, listen to podcasts, and play a video game all at the same time

The Feast!
Inspired by this post
Danny, now an adult, works as an engineer and tech developer for Wayne Enterprises. One day, he has to bring his daughter, Ellie, into work with him. Ellie’s school had been temporarily shut down after a rouge attack, and the campus isn’t yet safe for the students to return to.
Danny had been ready to call into work to request the time off he’d need to watch his daughter until the school could be re-opened. However, his bosses seemed to be aware of the situation, and the predicament faced by many of the parents who worked for them. And a company wide email was sent out advertising Bring Your Kid To Work Day! Wayne Enterprises was offering all employees with children too young to be left home alone unsupervised the opportunity to bring their children in to work with them for the week, as that was the timeframe thus far given for when the school would be safely up and running again.
Danny is relieved that he wouldn’t need to take any unpaid time off. Nor try to find a last minute babysitter who’d A: Danny could trust to watch his little star, and B: be willing and able to watch her.
When he tells her about coming to work with him, Ellie is ecstatic! She gets to see where her dad works! And she gets to meet his work-friends! She’s so excited! She wants to make a good impression, so when Danny has gone off to begin cooking dinner, Ellie begins to make plans.
The next day, Ellie has woken up early and already gotten herself ready. She decided to wear a large poofy jacket and a pink too too over the top of her jeans. She has her backpack, filled with things to entertain her.
Once they’ve arrived and Danny has introduced Ellie to a few of his co-workers and some of their own children on the way to his desk. Along the way, Danny and Ellie pass by several offices and a we meeting rooms. It’s in one of these meeting rooms that Ellie spots her first target.
She quickly slips into the room before Danny can notice she’s run off and approaches the young man, teenager?, hunched over some papers reading intently. He’s got bags under his eyes that rivalled Danny’s back when he was still actively protecting Amity. He looks like he’s living off of nothing but caffeine and spite alone, and hasn’t had a proper nights sleep in months.
None of the other various businessmen and women in the room have noticed her presence yet, as she silently wanders up to the sleepy boy-man. She reaches into her pocket and just as she’s about to pull out her little gift, Danny has burst into the room frantically having noticed his child has slipped away. Again.
All eyes are on Danny as he apologises profusely for the intrusion, swooping in to take Ellie’s hand. He’s still apologising, now to the sleepy boy-man who is looking at Ellie in awe, like he couldn’t believe he hadn’t noticed her enter the room.
While her dad was still rambling Ellie quickly pulls an orange from her pocket and hands it to the boy-man. He takes it with a curious and perplexed look on his face.
“Ellie,” Danny sighs, “not again.”
Ellie grins and reaches into her jackets to pull out another orange. Danny swipes it before she can hand it to the businessman sitting next to the boy-man. She pulls out another one, and as Danny is grabbing it she slips from his grip and ducks under the table. Ellie runs to the centre of the room and unzips her backpack. She tips it upside down, and what looks to be 20 oranges spill out and roll across the floor.
With a feral grin, Ellie picks up an orange and throws her hands into the air in triumph, and shouts. “LET US FEAST!”

I remember when I used to be, well not good, but not horrible at this game.
I miss that.
Cleaned my gear and at least looked alright to start the playoffs. Then played like absolute butt. Let in an early goal on a bit of a breakaway I badly missplayed. Then the team worked back a goal before I let in another late in the first with a bad rebound.
The second started with another bad rebound and then they deflected it off my butt and in and shortly after that got a breakaway and I was too slow pulling my arm in to block the shot. And then not much later there was a weird bouncing puck that went over my stick and between my legs for a personally horrible second period which was only redeemed by us getting a really nice backhand goal right at the end.
So going into the third we trailed 2-5. And then, I have no idea what happened. I personally played a bit better and had my best period with a couple good saves and made the easy plays for a change and offensively the team was all over the place playing great. We managed somehow to score three goals and were pushing and controlling play to try to get another as time ran out to go to overtime.
It made for a very exciting game through the regulation. Overtime was a disappointment though as they controlled the puck most of the time and after a few shots I stopped the puck was loose on my right side and their guy was the first to it with so much time. I knew where he was going to shoot it and tried to get my glove over and push out to cut the angle but he had so much time he adjusted to that and put it in the net to end the game as a loss, again.
I think even more than the losing what I'm really getting tired of is playing so poorly and not nearly as good as I know I'm capable of, that's super annoying.
