The rookie, Ben Rice, just hit his 3rd home run off the day, driving in 7 RBIs in total!!! WOW!!! He's the first rookie in Yankees history to hit 3 home runs in one game!! He's the first Yankee with 7+ RBIs in the leadoff spot. 4th MLB player with 3+ home runs and 7+RBIs in leadoff spot since 1920. He's doing sooooooo well! And he's only just begun. What a great addition to my team. I love this guy!! He looks so very, very happy 😊 I'm happy for him. Let's go Yankees!!!!!

if you are emotionally invested in this mets team...
So grateful I got to hear this live last night, from Howie Rose (listen here):
"If you are emotionally invested in this Mets team, and you're sad right now, It's certainly understandable. But I promise you that won't take long to wear off if it ends here, because once the immediate disappointment if they don't pull off some kind of magical comeback here wears off, you'll realize what an incredible ride this team took you for this year.
"Started out 0-5, showed some signs of life, before they fell to 11 games under the .500 mark and a lot of people had them written off right there. And so, when you're lying around during the offseason, anticipating the next one, and you think about what the 2024 Mets were all about, you won't be able to keep yourself from smiling. Remember the talk over the winter? Transitional year, they're punting on the season, well they've kicked all the way to the 6th game of the National League championship series.
"And I'll say this, on a personal level, I was 15 years old when they won the 1969 world series. That's 55 years ago, so you can do the math yourself. But I'll just say this about the 2024 New York Mets. They have made this 70 year old feel 15 all over again."
when Jeff McNeil got an RBI in the 9th:
"It's poetic, isn't it? Somehow, that the Mets, even if they don't pull the Houdini act of all time off, they're just not going quietly."

A preprint from the latest vaccine study in the Prevent-19 trial. Novavax elicits broader, longer lasting, and sequentially increasing protection from past and present strains of covid than Pfizer and Moderna's mRNA vaccines. This is the fourth study in a row showing Novavax's increasing efficacy with additional boosters, something not seen with mRNA covid vaccines. If you can, you should try and get started on a Novavax series. The more doses you can get, the better lasting protection you'll have.
Abstract Background NVX-CoV2373, a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike (rS) protein vaccine with Matrix-M™ adjuvant, has been authorized for use in adults and adolescents. PREVENT-19 (NCT04611802/2019nCoV-301), a pivotal phase 3, randomized, placebo-controlled trial demonstrated robust efficacy of a primary, 2-dose series of NVX-CoV2373 against COVID-19. Methods Protocol expansions to PREVENT-19 included enrollment of adolescents (aged 12 to <18 years) and administration of 3rd and 4th doses of NVX-CoV2373 to adults and adolescents. Participants randomized 2:1 received NVX-CoV2373 or placebo 21 days apart; 3rd and 4th doses were administered ≥6 months after the preceding dose. Secondary and additional assessments included post-3rd- and 4th-dose immune responses (neutralizing antibody [nAb], anti-rS IgG, human angiotensin-converting enzyme-2-receptor binding inhibition [hACE2-RBI]) and response durability (post-3rd dose) to ancestral virus; cross-reactivity to Omicron subvariants; safety; and reactogenicity. Results Immune responses were observed against ancestral virus after two doses of NVX-CoV2373 but not after placebo. In both adults and adolescents, additional doses of NVX-CoV2373 increased nAb titers, anti-rS IgG levels, and hACE2-RBI; durable responses were recorded 8 months post 3rd dose. nAb responses post 3rd dose were noninferior to those post primary series. Cross-reactivity to BA.5 and BQ.1.1 variants was also observed, with anti-rS IgG levels post 3rd or 4th dose exceeding previously reported correlates of protection. Additional doses of NVX-CoV2373 were well tolerated, with no new safety signals. Conclusions NVX-CoV2373 elicited robust and durable humoral immune responses to ancestral SARS-CoV 2 as a 3rd and 4th dose after the primary series in adults and adolescents. Cross-reactivity to relevant variants provides insight into potential protection against antigenically related, but shifted, viral strains. Additional doses of NVX-CoV2373 were well tolerated with no new safety signals. These results support the utility of this vaccine platform and continued updates, based on currently circulating strains, to help effectively combat SARS-CoV-2 infection.

[ID: Small flatbreads stuffed with ground 'beef' and green olives; a plate of mlouwi and a Moroccan teaset are in the background. End ID]
بطبوط معمر بالكفتة / Batbout m'mr blkefta (Moroccan stuffed flatbreads with 'beef')
Batbout—also known as toghrift (تغريفت) or mkhamer (مخامر), based on the region—are Moroccan flatbreads which usually have an interior pocket. Large batbout are often served with grilled meats or to sop up juices from tajines, while smaller ones are stuffed with various fillings. Batbout are sometimes made thicker so that a pocket does not form, and then dipped in a honey-butter syrup like baghrir; some Moroccans reserve the term "mkhamer" for this preparation.
Batbout are eaten year-round, but are especially enjoyed during Ramadan as a side dish on the ftour (فطور; fast-breaking) table, where they are stuffed with ground beef, tuna, chicken, or cold cuts. You could also serve stuffed batbout as a main with a green salad or Moroccan cooked salad.
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Tip jar
Makes about 15 small flatbreads.
Ingredients:
For the flatbread:
1 cup (120g) bread flour
1 cup (165g) semolina flour
1/2 Tbsp active dry yeast
1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp sugar
About 3/4 cups water
For the filling:
3/4 cup TVP (textured vegetable protein)
1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp water or vegetable stock
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp vegetarian beef stock from concentrate, or substitute more soy sauce
1 onion (yellow or red), minced or grated
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 Tbsp tomato paste
1/2 small green bell pepper, minced
1/2 small red bell pepper, minced
Small bunch of green herbs (ربيع / rbi'): cilantro and/or parsley
2 tsp sweet paprika
1 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cumin
Red chili powder or hot sauce, to taste
Squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
Olive oil, to fry
You may use your preferred ground beef substitute in place of the TVP; in this case, omit the water and stock concentrate.
Instructions:
For the flatbread:
1. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Make a well in the flour and add in just enough water to make a smooth, slightly sticky dough. You may need more or less than 3/4 cup.
2. Once the dough comes together, knead it by hand for 10 minutes, or in a stand mixer with a hook attachment on medium-low for 7 minutes, until it is very smooth, soft, elastic, and tacky. Add additional water or flour as necessary.
3. Form the flatbreads. Larger flatbreads may be formed by breaking off a small handful of dough, rolling it in flour, and patting it flat until it forms a round about 1/4" thick. Small flatbreads are often made by rolling out the dough about 1/4" thick on a floured surface, then cutting circles of the desired size out with a cookie cutter or glass.
4. Set flatbreads aside in a single layer on a floured surface, cover, and allow to rest for one to two hours, until noticeably puffy.
5. Heat a large dry skillet on medium and add as many flatbreads as will fit. When they puff up slightly, flip each one to the other side. Continue to cook, turning over as necessary, until flatbreads have dark golden brown spots on each side. You may find that the flatbreads puffing up gives you room to add more to the skillet; continue in this way until all flatbreads are cooked.
Batbout breads may be kept at room temperature for a couple days at this stage, or frozen for use later.
For the filling:
1. Mix all ground spices in a small bowl. Hydrate TVP for about 10 minutes in hot water, stock concentrate, soy sauce, and a spoonful of the spice mixture.
2. Heat 3 Tbsp olive oil in a large pan on medium-high. Add TVP and spread it out in a single layer. Allow it to brown without agitating for a few minutes before stirring it, scraping the bottom of the pan. Repeat this process a few times, adding more oil as necessary, until the TVP is deeply golden brown on all sides. Remove TVP from the pan.
3. Heat another 2 Tbsp of olive oil and fry onion for a couple minutes until softening. Add bell peppers and spices and fry for another couple minutes until spices are fragrant.
4. Add tomato paste and stir to combine. Add olives and herbs and mix. Return TVP to pan and mix to combine. Remove from heat. Add hot sauce and lemon juice, as desired.
To serve:
1. Cut a slit in the side of each flatbread with a small, sharp knife. Stuff with hot filling and set aside. Serve warm.

the silver bullets but if they were a baseball team
hi and hello my friends. as u all know (and possibly see from my page) i've grown up a huge philadelphia sports fan all my life, and with the nfl season starting up and mlb season coming to a close (and my phillies in the postseason!) i decided that this was necessary as a development for the silver bullets girls as we have a big enough crew to get a full starting lineup and starting pitcher (along with our coach/manager birdie faulkner, rip queen!) PLEASE ENJOY!!!
silver bullet's team (baseball) manager: birdie 'cap'n' faulkner
no doubt birdie faulkner (in this AU i guess?!) would be alive and well and a damn-good manager for the silver bullets ball club. she's a natural-born leader, would probably actively fight any other team if someone messed with her girls and is undoubtedly someone who wants to do whatever it takes to win. when she used to play, she was one of the most efficient players at first base. in her 5th year as manager for the silver bullets. the girls call her cap'n - she's the leader of this time in every way possible.
(main) pitcher: carrie 'bergie' achterberg
1st starting rotation pitcher for the silver bullets is carrie achterberg, affectionately known by the team, her fellow players, and the fans as bergie. when bergie is up on the mound and pitching for her team, defense knows they can win if they can put up the numbers on offense. bergie is reliable, a fan-favorite despite her obvious stubbornness that is apparent even on the TV screen or radio (if you were to say, when the fans see bergie like that, they know she's passionate about her team and about winning). in her 4th year of a 10 year contract with the silver bullets. a pretty efficient left-hand pitcher (LHP) on the mound.
1st base: bessie 'bes' carlisle
1st basemen bessie carlisle is one of the voices of the team that's been there ever since birdie faulkner got the group together. originally was in the minor leagues for a few years before the silver bullets organization picked her up for their AAA (Triple A) minor league. she played a few games, put up some good numbers, was efficient at the plate, and consistently driving in runs. she played out the rest of her second season in the majors for the silver bullets and was signed to a major league contract for 5 years thereafter. in her 4th year of her 5 year contract with the silver bullets. bes not only is beloved by the fans, but her jersey usually is in the top three with sales! leads an organization that raises money to get kids into baseball, softball, etc...!
2nd base: marjorie 'margie' harlowe
2nd basemen majorie harlowe had one of the most productive rookie seasons after getting drafted by the silver bullets 3 years prior. a few years in the minors did her well and after successfully getting called-up into the majors with high expectations, she soared. still on her rookie contract, she continued to have productive at-bats through spring training and has high expectations for the new season. she quickly gained a large fanbase, is usually in the clubhouse with the best playlists for postgame wins or practice, and had one of the most memorable postgame interviews where she proceeded to tearfully recall the double ground-out, final out, (in which she caught the ball, got the out at second, threw the ball to bessie carlisle and proceeded to scream with joy) that sent the silver bullets into the previous postseason, while equally rambling and interjecting with a thousand different ways to say 'oh-my-god'. safe to say, margie is a fan-favorite. in her 2nd year with the silver bullets, on her rookie contract.
3rd base: vivian 'viv' ratcliff
tall, lean, a bit quiet, but one of the most improved of the team, 3rd basemen vivian ratcliff led the league in the previous season in RBIs and hopes to make the same impact moving forward into the season. she spent multiple years in the minors, before getting called up a few seasons back when one of their infielders went down and was injured the rest of the season. she stayed on a rookie contract for a few years, before she was signed onto a 4 year contract. is most widely known for her defense at third base, along with her rather hilarious postgame tweets that the fans can't seem to get enough of. in her 4th year of her 4-year contract with the silver bullets. viv has joined multiple pregame and postgame interviews and usually has quite the opinion on batting practice - key-word 'just hit the damn-ball'.
shortstop: kennedy 'kenny' farley
shortstop kennedy farley was once told as a kid that she couldn't play shortstop - it was too hard, it was the hardest defensively to play, and she wasn't good enough for the spot. she played her way into the draft, through the minors and became one of the most efficient shortstops in the league. longtime boyfriend, john egan, always says how he knew she'd be one of the best (and she usually tells him off, but secretly appreciates it more than anything). passionate player, has great at-bats, leads the team in homeruns (HRs), and has gotten in a FEW near-fights with other teams (usually defending other members of the silver bullets). in year 3 of her 4-year contract with the silver bullets. kenny has the second-highest selling jersey of team history! best friends with margie harlowe - people call the two sunshine and storm duo!
catcher: annie 'the LT' bradshaw
just signed onto a 5-year contract with the silver bullets and traded from her previous organization, the RPs, catcher annie bradshaw finds herself in a new position - not only needing to gain the trust of her teammates, but of her pitchers. not only needing to call a game, but call a winning game with her pitchers. the silver bullets signed her because of her intelligence at the plate, her ability to throw people out caught stealing bases, and her rather productive at bats that get pitchers throwing full counts, before sending a ball into the field. and she easily reads a field and communicates that with her pitchers. in her 1st year of her 5-year contract with the silver bullets. affectionately called the LT, or lieutenant by the girls because of her willingness to lead and step up to the plate, while also being focused, alert, and disciplined. highly respected around the league.
left field: marianne 'mari' salinger
outfielder marianne salinger was brought up from the minor leagues when left-fielder matilda kerkering went down with a torn achillies. on her rookie contract, mari assisted with getting the silver bullets into the postseason previously with her ability to turn a few hits into big moments, with RBIs or base-hits whenever she can make it happen. through her second year, she struggled with her at-bats and was sent back to the minors for assignment. she worked hard, improved and came back with a huge fan reception and succeeded highly throughout the rest of the season. in her third season, injury plagued her capabilities to play and she finished out the season only playing 1/8 of the games. now in her fourth year, and having just signed a 3-year contract, she's hoping to make a bigger impact and big a key-player for her teammates. close friends with francis montez, having both started in the minors together, with francis being called up a few months previous. in her 4th year with the silver bullets, in the first year of her contract. mari gave the spring training hype speech for the training and finished it off far-too emotional and it sent the team into tears.
center field: judy 'rib-ee' rybinski
rookie outfielder judy rybinski is one of the fastest outfielders of the league. she catches pop-ups and fly-outs that you see on TV and think 'yeah there's no way you can catch that' - and she DOES. it is her first year in the majors, after having been drafted by the silver bullets two years ago and spending some time putting in the work in the minors. now, in her first major league season, she's already put up efficient numbers and given solid at-bats. her stellar defense from the minors has already shown itself on the field, but at times she's struggled to really see the ball and gets far more strikeouts than she would've liked. BUT, she works hard before games, usually having batting practice by herself or with guidance from bradshaw and carlisle. she's a fan favorite, with many tweets trending after games simply stating 'JUDY RYBINSKI MUST BE PROTECTED', and currently has the highest selling jersey on the team, along with high expectations. in her first year of her rookie contract. rib-ee comes from her childhood tee-ball league when she consistently hit the most RBIs or RIB-Es. it seemed to stick! :)
right field: paulina 'pauli/stag' stagliano
outfielder paulina stagliano, admittedly, has more of a carefree, nonchalant, possibly too-sarcastic personality for baseball, but she makes it work??!?! she finished her contract on a previous team, became a free agent, and signed with the silver bullets on a 5-year contract and didn't really meet the expectations she was supposed to have in her first year. poor at-bats, occasional injury, and struggles in the outfield. she worked through the offseason and spring training and found her stride and in her second-year, in the first game, hit a walk-off homerun that gave one of the most beloved postgame interviews constantly recalled by the team and by carrie achterberg herself [achterberg stating she'd never seen pauli or the stag so emotional yet pissed off at the same time while having the gatorade cooler dumped over her head]. a beloved player by the fans, leading an established organization for veterans like her father needing support for aid, housing and food, she finds herself heading into her 3rd year of her 5-year contract with the silver bullets.
DH: francis 'monty' montez
designated hitter francis montez stepped up to expectations and succeeded them in full. back in college, she quickly rose through the ranks as a freshmen and got first spot as DH over the original DH who'd been on the college team for a few years. with such high expectations, she got much more hate than was bargained for - therefore, she continued to work, develop her character, her capability to play ball, her work at-bat and at the plate, and got drafted by the silver bullets and quickly got called up to the majors after a few months in the minors. a natural spokeswoman for the silver bullet screw, she signed an 8-year contract with the silver bullets and has entered her 4th year on the team. affectionately called monty, the TV and/or radio announcers typically call 'THERE GOES MONTY' every time she hits a homer that's out of the ballpark. yeah, there's shirts with the quote, signs, kids usually have her sign it on jerseys and shirts, too. they even have a drink in the ballpark called the monty - alcoholic and nonalcoholic. increased revenue for the sillver bullets exponentially because of both her character, her fame and her fanbase at the ballpark that couldn't wait to come see what monty could do at the plate!
yeah....THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!! :D

Anthony Volpe gets his second home run in two days!!! Yesterday he was 4-4 and one hit was a homer!! In the last 11 games, Anthony has a .362 batting average, 4 doubles, 5 home runs, and an OPS 1.063!!! He's back. Now, the logical thing to do is to put him back at the top of the lineup. Even being bounced around the lineup, Anthony had proven himself so show him the respect that he has earned and deserves and put him back at the top of the lineup. No one else seems to be able to do what Anthony did when he was in that spot. Please, let him do his thang. 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 I love Anthony Volpe ❤️ He's got great ability and a deep passion for the game. Let's go, Anthony!!!! Let's go Yankees!!!!! I love this guy, and I love this game. It's great to have you back, Anthony!!😊😍🤗
Anthony Volpe just hit another single for another RBI!!! He's back!! He's fire 🔥 😍 I'm happy to see him back!! I love Anthony Volpe ❤️
LET'S GO YANKEES!!!!!

The Mariners beat the Yankees 5-4 and came back from a 4-0 deficit by scoring 1 run in the 8th and 4 in the top of the 9th. An insane game. Good job. Mitch Haniger and Ty had an rbi each, and Dom had 2 RBI’s, Luke was 3-4 and scored a run. Insane game. Relievers were great.

7 Sep, CWS @ BOS, 5-7, win
We won two in a row! That's one short of an actual winning streak. It got a little scary in both the first inning and the seventh inning, but it all turned out ok in the end. Connor Wong made an error but to be fair he was at first, not behind the plate, and first isn't quite his comfort zone. It wasn't the cleanest, most definitive win, but it was a win and I am going to take it. So let's focus on those bright sides.
Trevor Story returned and made his presence felt on the field immediately, turning two double plays and knocking in a run. Was it a weight off the shoulders to see routine plays fielded as they should be? Yes. Yes, it was. I was always grumpy about the Story signing because it telegraphed that Xander wasn't long for the Sox, but it is very nice to have him back before the end of the season.
Cooper Criswell was very much not as sharp as his last outing but he deservedly got the win allowing only two runs in the first inning. He gave up five hits and two walks and didn't strike anyone out and he benefited hugely from the return of Story, whose timely double plays saved the day for him.
Raffy Devers looked a lot more comfortable at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks.
Tyler O'Neill brought the boom with a two-run dinger in the first and going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Romy Gonzalez, no doubt wanting to punish his old team for cutting him loose, maintained his beautiful moustache and also went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored, a RBI and 3 stolen bases.
We won!
We gained a game in the wild card!
Maybe we'll win today!
