the silver bullets but if they were a baseball team
hi and hello my friends. as u all know (and possibly see from my page) i've grown up a huge philadelphia sports fan all my life, and with the nfl season starting up and mlb season coming to a close (and my phillies in the postseason!) i decided that this was necessary as a development for the silver bullets girls as we have a big enough crew to get a full starting lineup and starting pitcher (along with our coach/manager birdie faulkner, rip queen!) PLEASE ENJOY!!!
silver bullet's team (baseball) manager: birdie 'cap'n' faulkner
no doubt birdie faulkner (in this AU i guess?!) would be alive and well and a damn-good manager for the silver bullets ball club. she's a natural-born leader, would probably actively fight any other team if someone messed with her girls and is undoubtedly someone who wants to do whatever it takes to win. when she used to play, she was one of the most efficient players at first base. in her 5th year as manager for the silver bullets. the girls call her cap'n - she's the leader of this time in every way possible.
(main) pitcher: carrie 'bergie' achterberg
1st starting rotation pitcher for the silver bullets is carrie achterberg, affectionately known by the team, her fellow players, and the fans as bergie. when bergie is up on the mound and pitching for her team, defense knows they can win if they can put up the numbers on offense. bergie is reliable, a fan-favorite despite her obvious stubbornness that is apparent even on the TV screen or radio (if you were to say, when the fans see bergie like that, they know she's passionate about her team and about winning). in her 4th year of a 10 year contract with the silver bullets. a pretty efficient left-hand pitcher (LHP) on the mound.
1st base: bessie 'bes' carlisle
1st basemen bessie carlisle is one of the voices of the team that's been there ever since birdie faulkner got the group together. originally was in the minor leagues for a few years before the silver bullets organization picked her up for their AAA (Triple A) minor league. she played a few games, put up some good numbers, was efficient at the plate, and consistently driving in runs. she played out the rest of her second season in the majors for the silver bullets and was signed to a major league contract for 5 years thereafter. in her 4th year of her 5 year contract with the silver bullets. bes not only is beloved by the fans, but her jersey usually is in the top three with sales! leads an organization that raises money to get kids into baseball, softball, etc...!
2nd base: marjorie 'margie' harlowe
2nd basemen majorie harlowe had one of the most productive rookie seasons after getting drafted by the silver bullets 3 years prior. a few years in the minors did her well and after successfully getting called-up into the majors with high expectations, she soared. still on her rookie contract, she continued to have productive at-bats through spring training and has high expectations for the new season. she quickly gained a large fanbase, is usually in the clubhouse with the best playlists for postgame wins or practice, and had one of the most memorable postgame interviews where she proceeded to tearfully recall the double ground-out, final out, (in which she caught the ball, got the out at second, threw the ball to bessie carlisle and proceeded to scream with joy) that sent the silver bullets into the previous postseason, while equally rambling and interjecting with a thousand different ways to say 'oh-my-god'. safe to say, margie is a fan-favorite. in her 2nd year with the silver bullets, on her rookie contract.
3rd base: vivian 'viv' ratcliff
tall, lean, a bit quiet, but one of the most improved of the team, 3rd basemen vivian ratcliff led the league in the previous season in RBIs and hopes to make the same impact moving forward into the season. she spent multiple years in the minors, before getting called up a few seasons back when one of their infielders went down and was injured the rest of the season. she stayed on a rookie contract for a few years, before she was signed onto a 4 year contract. is most widely known for her defense at third base, along with her rather hilarious postgame tweets that the fans can't seem to get enough of. in her 4th year of her 4-year contract with the silver bullets. viv has joined multiple pregame and postgame interviews and usually has quite the opinion on batting practice - key-word 'just hit the damn-ball'.
shortstop: kennedy 'kenny' farley
shortstop kennedy farley was once told as a kid that she couldn't play shortstop - it was too hard, it was the hardest defensively to play, and she wasn't good enough for the spot. she played her way into the draft, through the minors and became one of the most efficient shortstops in the league. longtime boyfriend, john egan, always says how he knew she'd be one of the best (and she usually tells him off, but secretly appreciates it more than anything). passionate player, has great at-bats, leads the team in homeruns (HRs), and has gotten in a FEW near-fights with other teams (usually defending other members of the silver bullets). in year 3 of her 4-year contract with the silver bullets. kenny has the second-highest selling jersey of team history! best friends with margie harlowe - people call the two sunshine and storm duo!
catcher: annie 'the LT' bradshaw
just signed onto a 5-year contract with the silver bullets and traded from her previous organization, the RPs, catcher annie bradshaw finds herself in a new position - not only needing to gain the trust of her teammates, but of her pitchers. not only needing to call a game, but call a winning game with her pitchers. the silver bullets signed her because of her intelligence at the plate, her ability to throw people out caught stealing bases, and her rather productive at bats that get pitchers throwing full counts, before sending a ball into the field. and she easily reads a field and communicates that with her pitchers. in her 1st year of her 5-year contract with the silver bullets. affectionately called the LT, or lieutenant by the girls because of her willingness to lead and step up to the plate, while also being focused, alert, and disciplined. highly respected around the league.
left field: marianne 'mari' salinger
outfielder marianne salinger was brought up from the minor leagues when left-fielder matilda kerkering went down with a torn achillies. on her rookie contract, mari assisted with getting the silver bullets into the postseason previously with her ability to turn a few hits into big moments, with RBIs or base-hits whenever she can make it happen. through her second year, she struggled with her at-bats and was sent back to the minors for assignment. she worked hard, improved and came back with a huge fan reception and succeeded highly throughout the rest of the season. in her third season, injury plagued her capabilities to play and she finished out the season only playing 1/8 of the games. now in her fourth year, and having just signed a 3-year contract, she's hoping to make a bigger impact and big a key-player for her teammates. close friends with francis montez, having both started in the minors together, with francis being called up a few months previous. in her 4th year with the silver bullets, in the first year of her contract. mari gave the spring training hype speech for the training and finished it off far-too emotional and it sent the team into tears.
center field: judy 'rib-ee' rybinski
rookie outfielder judy rybinski is one of the fastest outfielders of the league. she catches pop-ups and fly-outs that you see on TV and think 'yeah there's no way you can catch that' - and she DOES. it is her first year in the majors, after having been drafted by the silver bullets two years ago and spending some time putting in the work in the minors. now, in her first major league season, she's already put up efficient numbers and given solid at-bats. her stellar defense from the minors has already shown itself on the field, but at times she's struggled to really see the ball and gets far more strikeouts than she would've liked. BUT, she works hard before games, usually having batting practice by herself or with guidance from bradshaw and carlisle. she's a fan favorite, with many tweets trending after games simply stating 'JUDY RYBINSKI MUST BE PROTECTED', and currently has the highest selling jersey on the team, along with high expectations. in her first year of her rookie contract. rib-ee comes from her childhood tee-ball league when she consistently hit the most RBIs or RIB-Es. it seemed to stick! :)
right field: paulina 'pauli/stag' stagliano
outfielder paulina stagliano, admittedly, has more of a carefree, nonchalant, possibly too-sarcastic personality for baseball, but she makes it work??!?! she finished her contract on a previous team, became a free agent, and signed with the silver bullets on a 5-year contract and didn't really meet the expectations she was supposed to have in her first year. poor at-bats, occasional injury, and struggles in the outfield. she worked through the offseason and spring training and found her stride and in her second-year, in the first game, hit a walk-off homerun that gave one of the most beloved postgame interviews constantly recalled by the team and by carrie achterberg herself [achterberg stating she'd never seen pauli or the stag so emotional yet pissed off at the same time while having the gatorade cooler dumped over her head]. a beloved player by the fans, leading an established organization for veterans like her father needing support for aid, housing and food, she finds herself heading into her 3rd year of her 5-year contract with the silver bullets.
DH: francis 'monty' montez
designated hitter francis montez stepped up to expectations and succeeded them in full. back in college, she quickly rose through the ranks as a freshmen and got first spot as DH over the original DH who'd been on the college team for a few years. with such high expectations, she got much more hate than was bargained for - therefore, she continued to work, develop her character, her capability to play ball, her work at-bat and at the plate, and got drafted by the silver bullets and quickly got called up to the majors after a few months in the minors. a natural spokeswoman for the silver bullet screw, she signed an 8-year contract with the silver bullets and has entered her 4th year on the team. affectionately called monty, the TV and/or radio announcers typically call 'THERE GOES MONTY' every time she hits a homer that's out of the ballpark. yeah, there's shirts with the quote, signs, kids usually have her sign it on jerseys and shirts, too. they even have a drink in the ballpark called the monty - alcoholic and nonalcoholic. increased revenue for the sillver bullets exponentially because of both her character, her fame and her fanbase at the ballpark that couldn't wait to come see what monty could do at the plate!
yeah....THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!! :D

Top 20 Musical Theatre Villains
Okay, so, I know I’ve only just started my month-long “Count-Down” of my favorite versions of Dracula, but this idea was bugging me, and I decided to make a description-less list of it just for yucks. Is that so wrong? I hope not... Anyway...if you know me, then you know I love musicals. And of course, so often in musicals, the most fun characters are...well...what they are in so many things, to be honest: the villains. The thing about villains in musical theatre is they sort of bring out the wonderful, fun, dark side of what makes the musical genre what it is. The idea behind how these things work is that the characters are expressing their deepest emotions and motivations through song, and while you can get many positive ideas across with that, the bad guys of these shows prove to us that, even in a world where it’s apparently the norm to get up and dance like you just don’t care, there will always be people who have dark emotions and dark thoughts that are just as powerful as the rest. Musical Villains run the gamut in terms of how they work: some are funny, some are threatening, some sing a whole lot, some only get a few key musical moments to their name, but they all serve some sort of function and play a vital role in the proceedings. So, I decided to do a quick tribute and talk about some of my favorites in musical theatre. Now, a couple of basic rules: Rule Number One, I’ll only be counting characters who I, personally, perceive to be VILLAINS in these stories. For example, Inspector Javert from Les Miserables is the main antagonist, but I don’t really consider Javert to be a VILLAIN in the truest sense. Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett are both far from the nicest folks around, but I think of them more as dark protagonists than the villains in their stories. In both these cases, there are other characters who are much more obviously in line with the typical way we think a villain should be, anyway. Rule Number Two: I won’t be counting villains from musicals based on movies, such as the number of Disney Villains who appear in stage shows, or characters like Beetlejuice and the Child Catcher. They’re great villains, but I want to talk about “stage exclusive” villains. There will be a few exceptions, and these are in cases where the musical is more popular or well-known than the original movie source: most people don’t know about the old black-and-white movie “Little Shop of Horrors,” but a whole lot of people know the musical and its own movie adaptation. On that note, I won’t be talking about music MOVIE villains, such as Lucifer from The Devil’s Carnival or Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. These guys have to basically be born onstage. There will be ONE exception to the rule...kind of...but not really. XD With all that in mind, here are My Top 20 Musical Theatre Villains.
Tumblr media
20. Evillene the Wicked Witch of the West, from The Wiz.
Tumblr media
19. Miss Andrew, from Mary Poppins: The Musical. (I’m counting her because, even though the musical is semi-based on the movie, this character never APPEARED in the movie, unlike other Disney Musical Villains, like Frollo, Scar, or Ursula. Miss Andrew is only found in the stage show...and the P.L. Travers books, I suppose.)
Tumblr media
18. Velma Von Tussle, from Hairspray.
Tumblr media
17. Jud Fry, from Oklahoma!
Tumblr media
16. Caiaphas & Annas, from Jesus Christ Superstar.
Tumblr media
15. Hades, from Hadestown.
Tumblr media
14. Mayzie LaBird, from Seussical.
Tumblr media
13. Madame Morrible, from Wicked.
Tumblr media
12. Dr. Frank-N-Furter, from Rocky Horror (Picture) Show.
Tumblr media
11. Mr. Applegate, from Damn Yankees!
Tumblr media
10. Mr. Hyde, from Jekyll & Hyde.
Tumblr media
9. Aaron Burr, from Hamilton. (Hey, he outright admits to being “the villain in your history;” I say he counts, no matter how much we love him.)
Tumblr media
8. Captain Hook, from Peter Pan.
Tumblr media
7. Audrey II, from Little Shop of Horrors. (And yes, to those who know me on this site...this plant makes me VERY blushy and shivery and all that stuff. >///> )
Tumblr media
6. Fagin, from Oliver!
Tumblr media
5. The Thenardiers, from Les Miserables.
Tumblr media
4. The Mad Hatter, from Wonderland. (Specifically as played by Kate Shindle; others who have played the Hatter, and the ways the Hatter has been handled in those versions, are okay...but this one is just EPIC.)
Tumblr media
3. Judge Turpin, from Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Tumblr media
2. Miss Hannigan, from Annie.
Tumblr media
1. Erik, a.k.a. The Phantom, from The Phantom of the Opera.

Note
Back again with the costume designer talk -- Yes, I agree with the mischaracterization of all the characters in s6. It felt like last series' plots and endings had been thrown out the window. While watching s6, it felt like a different show all together. Everything that made every character unique was gone. Was there any reason as to why Edward was gone? Also, you stated that Matty likes Victorian and gothic culture. What are other characters' interests? I know Alo's are nature/punk; Rich: metal
Totally.  I think series 5 got a lot of backlash from older fans who no longer felt like the characters were relatable and were very vocal about that fact on Twitter, and so they decided to go completely in the opposite direction because maybe people would like that instead.  And I think that’s a real shame, because like I’ve said before, I think series 5 is some of the best, tightest writing that Skins ever did.  As far as Edward goes, I think he left to work on Secret Diary of a Call Girl. My impression is that he was trying to balance both jobs in 2010 and then felt like it was too much.  Katie Newham, who took over, was Edward’s assistant costumer, so I think he assumed that she would be able to just pick up where he left off, which ended up totally not being the case (and which is what makes me think she comes from a styling/costume construction background as opposed to a costume design one).
Canonically in terms of interests, here’s what the characters like:
Franky likes “making stuff,” The Catcher in the Rye, The Little Prince, Clockwork Orange, Graphic Novels – Dark Knight, Manga - The Rose of Versailles, Arcade Fire, Burial, Crystal Castles, Nirvana, Corpse Bride, Seven Samurai, Let Me In, Bad Santa, Spirited Away, Vertigo, Harold Lloyd!,  Dexter, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, and taking photos.
Alo likes his weed, his van, his dog, Youth in Revolt, The Dharma Bums, The Velveteen Rabbit, Blitzen Trapper, Wolf Parade, Dog is Dead, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's, Fruit Bats AND Filthy filthy filthy filthy filth. Borgore, Excision, DatSikk, Funtcase, 16 Bit, Into the Wild, Grizzly Man, Where the Wild Things Are, East of Eden, The Jungle Book, Backdoor Sluts 9, The Hangover, Ninja Warrior, Party Down. Summer Heights High. Babestation. South Park. Family Guy, Lookwell, porn, and Victorian porn.
Rich is mostly defined by what he doesn’t like: he doesn’t like pop music, Simon Cowell, beautiful people, Radio 1, ITV, rapping, beatboxing, middle-class wankers, racism, sexism, Death Cab For Cutie, The Smiths, religion, Downton Abby, Tracy Chevalier, nu-metal, Empire magazine, Kerrang (wankers), drum machines (except when carefully used in Grindcore or Cybergrind – see Cutting Pink With Knives and Noism), synthesizers, Beth Ditto, public displays of affection, the city centre at the weekend, trance, techno, house, dubstep or any music made by skinny white people with computers, Kanye West, JLS, any show about fucking cooking or cooks, townies, chavs, narcissistic politicians, teachers, the song ‘Wait and Bleed’, the second solo on ‘Master Of Puppets’, artichokes, JK Rowling, any film or tv show with fucking vampires or zombies made after 1986, Glee, Glee, Glee, Glee, Glee, Glee, Glee. Archive Project - September 11, 2014 - Upcoming Fall 2014 Films
Yay! Its fall movie season! Blockbuster season is over and its time for Oscar Bait to rise! There is a lot of stuff coming out in the next 4 months, a lot of which I won't get around to reviewing. Lets take a look at what we're in for! September A Walk Among the Tombstones: Everybody loves Liam Neeson! The fall's first interesting movie stars him in something of a film noir murder mystery. The latter part of September tends to be when a lot of really underrated movies come out like Dredd, Looper, Prisoners and Rush. I have a good feeling about this one! Maze Runner: Hollywood will, for the fiftieth time this year, attempt to make the Hunger Games lighting strike again with another book adaption… This looks terrible… Tusk: If your a fan of the works of Kevin Smith your probably already dying for this one! Human Centipede with a Walrus! If your not familiar with the works of Kevin Smith… Go out and watch Clerks right now!! The Equalizer: Despite some early low reviews, film geeks are all clamming to see this movie! Hopes are high that Denzel Washington can create his own action series. Will it…? Probably not but hope so! October Annabelle: Fans of The Conjuring have been ranting about this too me for months now and i;ll take their word for it! I'm not a horror fan but this should be interesting! Gone Girl: The director of Fight Club, Seven, The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo brings us a Ben Affleck film! Theres a lot of hype around this! Should be a good movie! Alexander and the No Good, etc: This looks lame… Automata: Some critics in high places have been mentioning this a lot. I haven't seen much promotional material for it but its supposed to be a decent Sci-Fi movie! We'll see! The Judge: Robert Downey Jr. plays a Judge that must defend his estranged father in court. Sounds good to me! Crimson Peak: Guillermo Del Toro fans have been collectively flipping out about this new horror movie. Del Toro is one of the best directs of horror in Hollywood and has a strong grasp of subtlety and a morbid sense of creativity. Might be something brilliant here! Dracula Untold: This movie reminds me of I, Frankenstein… thats a baaaaaad sign…. Book of Life: Topping the list of my most anticipated movies right now is Book of Life! A Disney movie filtered through the cultural sensibilities of El Tigre with all the racism beaten out of it by Guillermo Del Toro! This movie is visually gorgeous and looks fiercely creative! I'm super excited! BoxTrolls: Have you seen Coraline and ParaNorman? YOU NEED TO SEE CORALINE AND PARANORMAN!! Also see this! A fun, creative stop motion movie by an incredibly talented team! ParaNorman flopped in theaters and BoxTrolls needs to succeed! KingsMan: The Secret Service: Matthew Vaughn's newest pick starts British SS agents in training that have to stop some sort of plot from happening! Vaughn brought us Kick-A** and X-Men: First Class! Both excellent action movies! KingsMan should be interesting! Rifftrax LIVE Anaconda: The last two live shows by Rifftrax have been amazing! The live roasts of Sharknado and Godzilla (98) were absolutely hilarious! Their next roast should be really great! November Big Hero 6: Disney is on a freakin roll!! Frozen, Wreck it Ralph and Tangled were all great animated films that managed to go beyond just being cynically made animated films. They were all genuinely great pieces of film and now they look to be about to make light night strike again! Adapting the barely known Marvel comic series the same way they approach classic fairy tales might be a stroke of genius and seeing it play out with the same energy and style of Wreck it Ralph and Guardians of the Galaxy. This is my most anticipated movie of the fall! Intersteller: Someone once said that if Nolan ever made a forth Batman movie it would have to goto space to be bigger than the Dark Knight Rises. At least part of that was true. In his first movie since the completion of the Dark Knight Trilogy, Nolan presents a high caliper Science Fiction movie about man's last attempt to stave off extinction, looking beyond into the stars for a new home. This movie might be great! Dumb and Dumber Too: sooo… This is a thing…. Theory of Everything: I haven't heard much on this but its an art house romance movie about Steven Hawking. Should be fascinating if nothing else. Fox catcher: Why am I imagining Channing Tatum as Cinderella Man here..? Fury: Brad Pit plays a WWII tank driver, fighting on the front lines with a rookie crew member after the loss of his best soldier. These men must survive the war. Should be fascinating. MockingJay Part 1: I'm not sure how to feel about Hunger Games now that Catching Fire has passed. The first movie was extremely boring but the followup was a vast improvement I rather enjoyed. From here though I don't know where the series is going to go and how well the characters work within the formula of the first two movies is beyond me.. well see.. The Penguins of Madagascar: I generally hate spinoff animated movies. They aren't always bad but they feel terribly cynical and i'd rather they don't exist. Penguins feels like a rather good idea though, simply because there is proof of concept that has me thinking this might be well thought through. The animated cartoon on Nick Penguins of Madagascar has been an intermitedly interesting exercise in cynicism but managed a few really great episodes that I enjoyed as a teenager. It helps of course that the Penguins were the best part of the Madagascar movies. This might be something great! December Paddington: A wacky British bear goes on wacky misadventures! I… don't know how to feel... Exodus: With the rampant success of movies like Son of God and Noah, Biblical epics are becoming popular again in Hollywood. Now Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, Blade Runner) is throwing his hat into the ring with a retelling of the story of Moses. Despite the weird casting and crappy promotional materials, Exodus has a lot of potential and might be one of the year's cinematic highlights! Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies: What is the Hobbit Trilogy? A cynical, forced production? A party to celebrate the Lord of the Rings?  Whatever it is, these movies have been fun if nothing else. Finally the newest run through Middle-Earth will come to a conclusion. Can John Wattson defeat the voice of Khan…? Well clearly, he survives because he is in Fellowship… It'll still be cool though! Annie: I hate Annie… No amount of gimmicks and stunt casting will make me like it… Night at the Museum 3: I actually liked the first movie. It came out when I was young enough to find some enjoyment in it. The second one sucked… Now we have a long awaited by nobody third one which is anybody's guess. At this point the most interesting thing about it is that it is Robin William's last post-mortem performance so that will be fascinating. Into the Woods: This might be quietly brilliant. With Disney currently in the works on producing a full line of live action adaptions like Maleficient and Cinderella, a big production of the famed musical Into the Woods seems.. interesting… I'm not a huge fan to the musical but this might be what it takes for me to really get into it, depending on how they pull it off. The stage production is in my opinion a very disjointed story that only really gets by on its more anachronistic and surprisingly dark comedic moments. Seeing Disney try to pull it off however might be what it takes to elevate the story if they take it somewhere interesting! In any case, the cast is interesting and interested to see it. Unbroken: Angelina Jolie's directorial debut tells the story of an Olympic runner that is drafted to WWII, captured and forced into a prison camp. I don't know how good this is going to be, but at the very least it will be a strange, different sort of movie. The Interview: And to finish off the year, whats likely the thing that will finally spark WW3 with the North Koreans! Seth Rogen and James Franco are spies that infiltrate N. Korea and attempt to kill Kim Jong Un. Given Rogen's incredible recent filmography of This is the End and Neighbors, I think we are in for something special!   This will be an interesting season! Thank you for reading! Live long and prosper!
