rating music pls dont hate me #30 | THE SHINEE WORLD - SHINEE
in every entry with issue number divisible by 5, i talk about significant albums in the past instead of the present. since 2nd gen won last friday's poll, today we are going to review THE SHINEE WORLD, a DEBUT album by no other than famous BOY GROUP SHINEE.
SHINEE is an icon of 2ND generation KPOP. they REVOLUTIONIZED new trends of MUSIC, DANCE, and FASHION in the KPOP industry. the FAMOUS boy group consist of ONEW, KEY, MINHO, TAEMIN, and LATE JONGHYUN. they debuted under SM ENTERTAINMENT, one of the big three entertainment companies of the KPOP industry, in 2008 and have made many big hits in their still active career.
their debut album, THE SHINEE WORLD, was released 3 months after their first mini album, REPLAY. in fact, the title track of the mini album REPLAY was featured in the album, along with a UNPLUGGED REMIX of IN MY ROOM. REPLAY also served as the leading track for their debut album.
1ST GEN KPOP music was more HIP-HOP or OLD-SCHOOL-RNB oriented in production. on the other hand, 2ND GEN KPOP music was more ELETRONIC than ACOUSTIC. SHINEE's discography lead this trend with the PEAKEST PEAK production i have ever seen in 2ND GENERATION KPOP music. in fact, i believed this is the most CREATIVE SM group based on PRODUCTION. THE SHINEE WORLD still has this new ELETRONIC production first introduced in this GEN but also has a little mix of TRADITIONAL RNB found in the 1ST GEN, but also feels more EXPERIMENTAL and NE-YO-coded, and i can tell you that NE-YO-coded songs are absolute BANGERS.
another thing i love about the album is the vocals, all of the member's shine their vocals in their own ways, specially mentioning ONEW and JONGHYUN. JONGHYUN's whole solo performance in Y SI FUERA ELLA wants me want to scream like fans when a song starts playing in a concert, the music key change gagged me so hard.
overall, SHINEE's debut THE SHINEE WORLD is, no doubt, a masterpiece, an icon for fans who are probably at the age to go to college, but i may be wrong of course. this was a promising beginning and will at least be their boldest work to date, if ODD (their 4th album) would be a bit worse than this (i haven't listened to it yet).
~Rest in piece JONGHYUN, you will always be my favorite lead vocal idol. The legacy you left is beautiful and influential. You did well.
underrated gem(s): LOVE'S WAY, ROMANTIC, ONE FOR ME, LAST GIRL (IN MY ROOM-PRELUDE), Y SI FUERA ELLA - why not.
tracks that i rec listening: THE SHINEE WORLD (DOO BOP), LOVE LIKE OXYGEN, GRAZE, BEST PLACE, IN MY ROOM - UNPLUGGED REMIX, REPLAY.
worst track: FOUR SEASONS - i emphasised positively about the album's production but it can get messy like this track.
overall score 9/10 - this is all opinion so pls no hate

EPEX Unpopular Opinions
Disclaimer: some of them you might not agree but in no way I am trying to hate on any member, especially when EPEX is my ult group.
I am sick of people saying that EPEX is "romanticizing" mental health because they are not. By the looks of it, it was easy for them to judge a book by its cover just because the term used as a title for the album was considered very triggering for some. However, if you read the lyrics and the context, it is definitely NOT BEING ROMANTICIZED. The songs were meant to spread awareness about mental health based on the members' own personal struggles. To me, the way they conveyed the message through their songs was nicely done.
EPEX is not a generic 4th gen boy group, they just have to make more vocally oriented, and less safe songs. On top of that, more vocal training on 7 other members. I feel like Yewang is the only one who receives training since he's the main vocalist.
I’m not exactly a fan of some EPEX song covers not because they can’t sing, in fact, the opposite. I am saying this because vocally, I see a lot of potential in all of them, especially MU. It's just frustrating how he is the Lead Vocalist in the group, only for him to do a song cover like he's singing karaoke spiced up with a little auto-tune.
They should do song covers with a more EPEX flavor, not just karaoke singing.
Bipolar pt. 1: Prelude of Anxiety has got to be the best album they have released so far.
Anthem of the Teen Spirit deserves a Live Band version, I think it would be interesting.
I hope they do more songs like Do 4 Me, wherein they have proper singing choruses rather than rap chants.
Although MU doesn't have the most vigorous stage presence, he is actually not a bad dancer. The same thing can be said about Yewang.
Ayden is overall the best performer in the group. He might have even outperformed Keum if it wasn’t for their amount of center/screen time. When I say "best performer," it means not their dance skills, but their stage presence.
MU needs to improve ALOT in the vocal department. As a singer, he is good but as a Lead Vocalist of the group, his skills are very subpar that even Wish might surpass him. This sometimes makes me think that the latter should have been the lead vocalist instead.
Cyanide is an underrated gem.
Wish looks the most graceful in terms of dancing. That, along with his stage presence is like the overt version of EXO Xiumin. They both have the archetype of masculine charismatic sensual performer.
Jeff could suit rap metal very well.
Billionaire would be a perfect song for Yewang and Jeff to cover.
Baekseung may not be your ult bias but he has a very high likability, it’s so hard not to like him at all.
I’ve never seen such a same-age dynamic that is as lovely as Baekmin (Baekseung and A-Min)
If there are members who would be perfect for fashion week (whether it is a runway debut or an invitation), it would be Baekseung, MU, or Wish.
I sometimes don’t get how A-Min is in the vocal line. I feel like he struggles to hit the most basic notes at times. Even rap liners Ayden, Jeff and even Keum outsing him.
With more vocal training, Wish, MU and Yewang would have had the SM-level vocals. Whoever is training them needs to get his/her lazy ass fired.
IK this is weird but I sometimes want to sneak in to a control booth and delete their pre-recorded vocals to see if they can survive live performances without it
They need to quit that repetitive-ass rap chant formula and start singing songs with proper melodies. (Get Danke lalala whoever out pls and sneak in Demjointz)

A link to my personal reading of the Scriptures
for the 4th of September 2024 with a paired chapter from each Testament (the First & the New Covenant) of the Bible
[The Book of Revelation, Chapter 4 • The Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 33]
along with Today’s reading from the ancient books of Proverbs and Psalms with Proverbs 4 and Psalm 4 coinciding with the day of the month, accompanied by Psalm 77 for the 77th day of Astronomical Summer, and Psalm 98 for day 248 of the year (with the consummate book of 150 Psalms in its 2nd revolution this year)
A post by John Parsons:
People perish because "they refuse to love the truth and so be saved" (2 Thess. 2:10-12). Therefore the issue of truth - physical, moral, aesthetic, spiritual, etc. - is central to salvation. The following post is a prelude to the "Forty Days of Teshuvah" leading up to Yom Kippur. Hashivenu. May the Lord turn our hearts to Him.
====
In the New Testament, the Greek word “metanoia” is the most commonly used word to express the idea of “repentance.” The word is formed from the prefix 'μετα' (“after, beyond”) combined 'νοεω' (“to think”) and it generally means “changing your mind” (in the noun form) or “thinking differently” (in the verb form). Since it can also represent an “afterthought” expressed emotionally as disappointment over a loss of some kind, metanoia is similar to the idea of nacham (נָחַם) in the Hebrew Scriptures, which literally means to “sigh” heavily as a way of expressing regret or consolation. The Greek word strepho (στρέφω), like the Hebrew word shuv (שׁוּב), means to “return” to God in a practical sense, that is, by performing acts of contrition. In either case, however, Hebrew or Greek, a change of direction is implied, and that begins with changing how we think and what we regard as the truth. Repentance, then, involves a new vision, a new way of seeing reality...
Yeshua's earthly ministry began with the message, "The time has come and the kingdom of God draws near: repent (μετανοεῖτε) and believe (πιστεύετε) the good news" (Mark 1:15). These two verbs (repent and believe) are in the imperative mood. We are commanded to repent, to "change our thinking," and therefore to turn away from hopelessness - and the sin that hopelessness begets - by accepting God’s intervention and deliverance. But you cannot believe if you do not first turn, and therefore you must change your focus; you must clear away the world’s distractions and ready your heart to hear the message. It is then that we hear a voice crying out: "Prepare the way of the LORD and make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God!" (Isa. 40:3).
Note that the Hebrew word translated “prepare” in this verse (i.e., "panu," see verse below) comes from a root word (פָּנָה) that means to turn to face someone... The Hebrew word panim (פָּנִים), “face,” comes from the same root, as does the word penimi (פְּנִימִי), “inner,” and the word penimiyut (פְּנִימִיוּת), meaning “inwardness” or “immanency.” This suggests that we must go within our own hearts, and there, in our "desert places," prepare for the Presence of the LORD. It is in the solitude of the desert - away from the mindless noise and empty distractions of this vain world, where we can listen and focus our heart, confess our sin, and express our great need for God... Being honest with ourselves makes us yashar (יָשַׁר), “upright,” and crooked ways are made straight for God to be received... The Hebrew word mesilah (מְסִלָּה) alludes to the ladder (i.e., sullam: סֻלָּם) that Jacob saw in the desert when he received the blessing of God (Gen. 28:12). Yeshua is the Bridge, or Ladder (הַסֻּלָּם), that unites and mediates heaven and earth (John 1:51).
Since God holds us responsible to repent and believe the truth of the gospel (Acts 17:30-31), He must have made it possible for us to do so (“ought” implies “can”). And indeed, God has created us in His image so that we are able to discern spiritual truth. He created us with a logical sense (rationality) as well as a moral sense (conscience) so that we can apprehend order and find meaning in the universe He created. All our knowledge presupposes this. Whenever we experience anything through our senses, for example, we use logic to categorize and generalize from the particular to the general, and whenever we make deductions in our thinking (comparing terms, making inferences, and so on), we rely on logic. We have an innate intellectual and moral “compass” that points us to God.
Since we all necessarily must think in order to live, we should value clear thinking. This should be obvious enough, though people often make various errors and misjudgments because they devalue the effort required to carefully think through a question. As William James once said, “A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.” When it comes to questions about the gospel, however, God regards such carelessness to be blameworthy. Again, the LORD holds us accountable for what we think and believe, especially when it comes to the reality and mission of His Son.
The truth about God is always available to human beings, if they are earnestly willing to look for it. The Divine Light that was created before the sun and the stars represents God’s immanent presence that “lights up” all of creation - including our minds (Gen. 1:3). As Paul stated, “the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen so that people are without excuse” (Rom. 1:19-20). The heavens are constantly attesting to the reality of God’s handiwork (Psalm 19:1). All of creation “shouts out” that there is a God. Even small children understand this.

BIBLE READING PLAN: WEEK 3 (25-31 Jul 2021)
Old Covenant: Gen 5-6 (1917 JPS), cf. 1924 Moffatt - Adam to Noah. Nephilim. Prelude to the Flood.
(The Septuagint in English is available at the 2009 NETS website for those who wish to read the Greek Old Covenant.)
New Covenant: John 5-6 (1913 Moffatt), cf. 1900 20c Bible - Sabbath Cure (3rd Sign). Lord of the Sabbath (3rd Discourse). Feeding the 5,000 (4th Sign). Walking on Water (5th Sign). Bread of Life (4th Discourse).
<< Five Things to Remember While Reading >>
Genre: While reading, keep in mind a text’s genre - history (narrative), legal code, poetry, prophecy, etc. Each genre requires different things from us - i.e. we must read actively.
Language: Even the original languages of the Bible cannot capture the fullness of God’s Word. The difficulties only multiply when we’re reading a translation into English, etc.
Intention: We should always practice the rhetorical “principle of charity” in reading Scripture. That is, we should assume an author’s purpose is what they say it is.
Interpretation: There is a long tradition of reading Scripture in four senses or ways. Each of them contributes to our understanding and spiritual development.
Homework: Find out what we know (and don’t know) about each text. Read difficult passages in several translations. Explore what the Church Fathers have said. Etc.
