Re: Vox’s outfits

1. The two pictures are literally the “friendship ended with Mudasir” meme, which is great

2. In the Alastor era photo, Vox definitely wearing a similar shoulder style.

3. The Val era fit is also very 70s: turtleneck, leather(?) vinyl(?) jacket. So could either be evidence of Vox changing to better match Valentino, or just a sign of Vox keeping up with the times

4. Heartbreaking crack theory:

4a. Vox getting his own jacket to mimic Alastor’s is cute, but what if Alastor got that suit jacket for Vox, (eg Alastor brought Vox along while he was getting his own tailoring done)

4b. and Vox has kept it despite their falling out,

4c. Vox dug it out of storage after Alastor disappeared and that’s what he’s wearing now. Only because there was a business suit power vacuum and totally not for any other reasons no way. headcannon that there is a group of photographers in lifesteal. everyone records their own footage and edits it by themselves and stuff, but the photographers get everyone reply shots and they go around talking photos of everyone at sever events. everyone has access to a camera to take selfies with teams and friends but the photographers are always the ones to take group pictures like at the beginning and end of the season. the photographers are planet, jaron, 4c, minute, vortex, and cube. mostly people who like to stay out of the fighting scene. cube is the best out of all of them and takes the more important photos. cube was also the first of the group and started it after vortex wanted to start learning to take photos. 4c and minute are the newest bc their new members this season. jaron and planet do the replay shots.

I don't always tend to use faces for reference, especially because of how relatively few photos of nonbinary people you can easily find, and I don't want to only put up pictures of binary people. (edit: it was mentioned that this implies that nonbinary = androgyny - apologies, and that wasn't my intention! What I should have said more clearly is that if I'm putting up pictures of real people, I prefer to use pictures of out nonbinary people (whatever their appearance) for nonbinary characters, as I did for a few of the face claims I put up in the past.) Plus, getting an appearance, gender presentation, age AND general vibe that matches each character is really hard. One day I will have the spare cash to get commissions of all the characters and that day will be glorious!

Edit: 4/3/21 - I decided to switch this back to having an OC instead of being a reader imagine.

Summary:

Looking back on the past four years of her life, they were anything but what Whitney Reynolds had expected. When she’d moved from Minnesota to Virginia for college, she’d had four years of hard work but lots of parties and other fun experiences on her mind. She’d gotten the hard work but she’d also gotten an unexpected pregnancy and being the single mother to a gorgeous little girl as well.

Now just over four years after she’d last seen him, Whitney was standing mere feet away from the boy who had not only been her best friend but also her first love. He also happened to be the father of her daughter, a daughter he didn’t know existed.

When Jake had dropped her off at her car the night she told him about Olivia, the two parted ways but not before exchanging current cell phone numbers as well as another tender kiss. Whitney knew that she probably shouldn’t have kissed him, but four years worth of desire made it hard to resist.  For the next three days, Whitney’s head was buried in her phone as she spent every free moment Jake had talking or texting. He peppered her with questions about her pregnancy and their daughter and in turn, she asked him to share his own life for the duration of their separation. Very quickly Jake had made it very clear that he wasn’t going to let his family know that he knew about Olivia, he wanted to establish a relationship with his daughter before subjecting himself to the opinions of his family, specifically his mother.

Although the last thing Whitney wanted was to drive a wedge between Jake and his family, she was relieved to know that she had Jake to herself for a while and that he would get to know his daughter without any outside feedback. When he’d asked to meet Olivia the night of the Penguins’ home game against the Predators, Whitney had insisted that he take the time to really think about whether he wanted to be a part of their lives, because he couldn’t just change his mind down the road if it all became too much. She had to protect her baby girl and while she knew that Jake would never intentionally hurt her, she’d read about his playboy ways and wanted to make sure that he was certain about taking the steps to grow up and be a father. In Jake’s mind, there was no other option. He’d gone four years without knowing his daughter and that was four years too long. He knew that he probably wasn’t ready to be a father but he’d be damned if he didn’t at least give it his all. Looking down at the pictures of Olivia that Whitney had sent him he couldn’t help but pick out each feature that was his own as opposed to those that she’d gotten from her mother. He’d heard all about her likes and dislikes from Whitney but he really did want to meet her himself, to teach her to skate like all the other guys did with their kids and just make the most of the fact that he had a second chance to be in her life. Sitting in his locker after the Penguins’ first win of the season against the Predators Jake couldn’t help but want to celebrate. His birthday had been yesterday and he’d scored his first goal of the season. A few of the guys were going out and they’d asked if he wanted to join but the only person he wanted to see right now was Whitney. Quickly showering and changing, Jake snuck out of the arena and once he was in his car he dialed her number sitting back against the seat as he listened to it ring. Across town, Whitney had just gotten a very hyper and very sugared up Olivia to bed when she heard her phone buzzing from the side table next to the couch. They’d watched the Pens game tonight once she had finished her articles on the Pitt Football game and she couldn’t help but cheer a little louder than normal when Jake scored his first goal of the season. Thinking back to his games in high school compared to now, Whitney was so proud of how far he’d come.

Racing toward the couch to catch the call before it went to voicemail, she couldn’t help the grin and blush that appeared on her face when she saw his name. “Well hello, there Mr. Guentzel.” She teased. “That was one hell of a rebound goal.” Hearing that she had watched caused Jake’s ears to turn red and he chuckled lowly before speaking. “So..I thought about what you said like you asked me to. But I want to be a father to our daughter….and well I want to see where things stand with us too. I know it won’t be easy but if you think I could turn my back on either of you now, you’re wrong.” If Jake could see her, he’d see the tears that had pooled in her eyes and were steadily flowing down her cheeks as he continued to insist that he was just as in this as she’d been for the past four years. “Okay…” She whispered, flopping onto the couch, thankful that Stephanie had decided to make the most of her free Saturday night by going out. Whitney loved her roommate but she really didn’t want to share Jake just yet, not when they were still figuring things out. “Does that mean I can come over? I think you owe me a birthday dessert.” Giggling softly Whitney couldn’t help but think of all the previous birthdays they’d shared and how no matter what they’d always made each other dessert. For her birthdays it was usually instant pudding or something equally as foolproof like slice and bake cookies but he’d always tried and she adored him for that. “I suppose you could come over for a little while, I just got Miss Olivia to bed though so we’ll have to be quiet. Stephanie gave her way too much sugar while I was watching the Pitt game and writing my articles.” She’d told Jake all about your roommate and her relationship with their daughter so he could certainly imagine her getting the little girl all worked up only to leave her with her mother to deal with. Sensing he was going to be caught by his teammates if he didn’t leave the garage, Jake got her address and then pulled out of the PPG Paints parking lot. When he arrived, he was thankful that their apartment was in a decent part of town and after getting buzzed up, he headed inside and climbed the three flights of stairs to apartment 4C. As soon as she opened the door, Whitney was engulfed in strong arms and a cologne that was certainly far better than what he’d been using in high school. “Hi..” She murmured, stepping backward when he kissed her once again, their bodies serving as magnets to each other. Once the lock on the door was flipped, Whitney pushed Jake away gently, motioning for him to move to the couch. After a quick stop to the kitchen, she joined him with two beers tucked under her arm, his birthday present in one hand while a container of chocolate chip cookies was balanced in the other. “Here’s your birthday dessert courtesy of our daughter and her insistence that chocolate chip cookies were the perfect birthday treat.” She declared gently setting the present down on the coffee table before handing him the container of cookies as well as one of the two beers. Before she could move to sit next to him on the couch, Jake was tugging her onto his lap and though Whitney let out a squeak of protest she quickly snuggled closer after opening her own beer. The way his thumb was brushing over her thighs as he opened the container of cookies made her sigh softly and she mentally scolded herself that they needed to take things slow. “Were these really made for me?” Jake asked softly to which Whitney nodded. “Every year I made you a birthday treat. This year Olivia insisted that whoever mommy was baking for would want chocolate chip cookies.” Jake felt his pulse jump knowing that even when they were apart she’d always done something for his birthday and Whitney felt him bury his nose in her neck for a minute as he basked in just how lucky he was to have his best friend back and for her to be the one he was bonded to for life through a child. “You are something else…” He murmured before taking a sip of his beer his nod of approval signaling that she had good taste there as well. After a few sips, she felt him yawn as the energy of the day started to leave him. “Don’t fall asleep before you open your present…” Whitney insisted, quickly sitting up to grab the wrapped box that evidently he’d overlooked. Handing it to Jake she struggled to not bounce in the excitement and anticipation of him opening it. “You didn’t have to get me anything.” He insisted, though he still tore through the paper at her insistence. On top was a card of course, and when he opened it he smiled, inside was a photo of his girls in his jersey and he was pretty sure that he’d never seen anything better. “I figured that when you were ready for people to know about us you could put it in your locker.” She murmured in explanation. “It’s perfect.” He assured her, pecking her lips quickly before opening the actual box. On top was a watch she thought he’d like since she’d noticed he wasn’t wearing one opening night. Under that was simply a photo album that she’d put together starting from when she had first settled into her pregnancy up to just a few days ago. Watching him flip through it she smiled thinking back to all of the memories but there was also a tinge of sadness that he had missed all of these things. Whitney knew that things probably wouldn’t have worked out between them four years ago, they certainly wouldn’t be where they are now so the time apart was a blessing in a way but at the same time it had been a hard four years being on her own and now that he was back in their lives she wasn’t sure just how to deal with it yet.  “This is the best birthday I’ve had in a while.” He stated, finishing off his beer and a cookie before setting everything aside and moving to lift Whitney into his arms bridal style. “Which way to the bedroom?” He questioned and caught up in the look on his face she could only point as she fought back a giggle against his chest. Once he’d set her down he quickly stripped to his boxers and Whitney tried not to stare as she moved to unmake the bed and get comfortable. Slipping out into the hall while he used her bathroom, Whitney peeked in on Olivia finding her sound asleep and then moved back to bed, flipping lights off as she went. Back in her room, Jake was leaning against the headboard and sliding in next to him Whitney snuggled back into his side. Feeling his fingers tangle in her hair as he whispered about how much he missed her, missed moments like this, Whitney was instantly lulled to sleep, faster than she could remember any other time in the past four years. When Jake realized that she was out, he simply placed a kiss on her temple, whispered that he loves her and settled down to sleep himself. Tomorrow he’d meet his daughter and while he was nervous, he knew that he was definitely ready.

Okay it's like 11pm yeah so the photo lighting isn't perfect, but this beef is delicious. I am very allergic to sulphur in beef and mostly peppers and garlic, but IDGAF I'm eating it anyways.

So while I take breaks in between bites to monitor how much my face is swelling (WORTH IT.) I'll give you the recipe.

All of this stuff is approximate. Taste test it. Shout to the stars for the right amounts.

Chili Beef + Rice

Rice. Make it however you want to make rice. I like jasmine with this, but any is fine.

1.5lbs beef (I used top round in 1"/3cm chunks)

2 limes

4 tbsp delicious Huy Fong Garlic Chili sauce, with the rooster on the jar

4-5 tbsp locally-made honey (important! Most honey tests negative for pollen at the store, meaning it isn't honey. It's usually corn syrup and colouring, marked honey. Ew.)

1/4c chopped fresh cilantro

~6" sprig of Thai basil, chopped. Just the leaves, not the whole stalk. Reserve some whole leaves for garnish later.

Peppers. One small sweet yellow pepper for the marinade, in small chunks like salsa, and a bunch for the stir fry. One more for the stir fry, plus two bell peppers, one green and one any other colour. Slice those into strips, easy to pick up with chopsticks.

1 tbsp sesame oil or veg oil. It doesn't taste right with butter.

Okay, get a big bowl. Mix your sliced beef chunks, chili, sweet pepper, honey, cilantro, and most of your Thai basil together. Juice the two limes and mix in the juice. Reserve the rinds in tupperware for making a really nice-smelling floor cleaner later.* Mix it all really well together. Put this in tupperware and let it marinade overnight, or don't and immediately cook it in the pan with some extra honey and chili. A tbsp of each extra is fine.

Cooking:

Make your rice so it's ready about when this is.

Heat your pan (I use cast iron) to medium and put in a tablespoon of sesame oil. You might need more if you have a larger pan. Toss in the beef mixture. Let it cook for a few minutes, searing on the outside, before adding in bell peppers and another sweet pepper.

The beef is going to release a lot of moisture. That's fine, make sure to get allll that chili sauce mixture in there to reduce. Keep your pan hot but watch that nothing burns. Keep stirring to get everything evenly cooked to the doneness you want your meat to.

If you have any fresh Thai basil left, keep it for either garnish, or toss it in the pan at the last minute and stir it a bit.

Pile out your rice into a bowl on one side, your steak on the other. Garnish with basil if you still have any.

Try some honey mangoes for dessert. <3

Hi people, today’s post will be about digital storytelling. Below, you can find the steps of creating a digital story.

Find an idea

Write the draft/script

Find the fitting images to your story

Record voice over

Edit the photos and the voice

Add sound effects, titles, music etc. (optional)

Edit the transition(optional)

Export the product

(We skipped the optional ones in our digital story.)

This was my first experience with a digital story and I find the overall process really fun and simple, however, finding the tool that provides all the affordences we need was a bit challenging.

I would definitely give my students a task about digital storytelling.

I think it is one of best activities (if not the best), that supports the development of 4C’s simultaneously.

It encourages collaboration and communication(students exchanging ideas etc.) especially when given in pairs, stimulates brainstorming, creativity and critical thinking(drawing images and thinking out the plot etc.).

petit pumpkin muffins w/ ginger vanilla glaze

still not sure what to do with that leftover pumpkin in the fridge? I’ve got something that could help!

 i was recently writing down recipe ideas and going through old ones that i’d written out in my flooded evernote and came across this particular one. of course, i had to try it out first to see if it was worth sharing because although i remembered them to be delicious there had to be a reason i didn’t share, right? and let's be honest recipes have flaws sometimes, okay more than sometimes.

 i feel that i’m constantly in the editing phase. it seems that either im trying to get a recipe just right, or trying to get the photos to translate how delish it actually is. don’t even get me started on the writing part. (i know i suck, its okay.)

 now on to this say recipe, its fairly quick to put together. one bowl, all that and although i prefer them in the petit size you can definitely bake them in a standard size muffin tin. my favorite part about these muffins is not even the muffin part, its the glaze. thick, luscious and sets so beautifully. I decided to top these with pepitas to add a little texture. if you aren't a glaze person (what are you doing here?) these certainly taste fine without but i highly recommend. 

ingredients

1/3c pumpkin puree

1/3c maple syrup

2 tbsp orange juice

1/3c cane sugar

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/4c neutral oil

1/2c white whole wheat flour

1/2c all purpose flour

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground ginger

1/3c plain kefir

1 egg

ginger vanilla glaze:

1c powdered sugar

2 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp ground ginger

2 tbsp milk or water

preparation

line muffin tin with baking cups or grease lightly then preheat oven to 350F.

combine and whisk the dry ingredients in a medium bowl and then add the wet ingredients and stir until just combined. divide the batter evenly and bake for 15-20 mins although 18 minutes is my ideal muffin time. once they are done let them cool slightly in the pan then invert to a baking rack while you make the glaze. to make the glaze simply stir all the ingredients together. the glaze should be thick but run in a steady stream. began dipping straight down into the glaze and allowing the glaze to drip off. sprinkle on the pepitas quickly while the glaze is still wet. enjoy!
