went to the state fair yesterday and tried so so much good food !!! my favorite things were the pickle lemonade (literally my favorite drink ever since i first tried it a couple weeks ago) and the fried pickles and the roasted corn. feeling like a true midwesterner after that :-)
#although i will say the pickle lemonade i tried by the lake by our house was a lot better#it was punchier#the ones at the fair were watered down a bit i think just from the ice melting in the heat#but it’s just SO refreshing#genuinely something my dr would prescribe for one of my health conditions is a shot of pickle juice#so it was so rejuvenating LOL#it was rly fun !! my home state doesn’t have a state fair like THAT#but it took me back to my 4H days :#when i competed agility w my childhood dog as a kid and camped out to do some horse riding events and archery#and pigs and chickens and such#rly nostalgic haha#i only did pigs one year bc it was too sad#but i was a chicken girl through and through#4H is what started me down the dog trainer career path and sparked that interest as a hobby#i didn’t pursue it seriously until a long time later and have since taken a hiatus bc of burnout but#it did remind me why i fell so head over heels in love w it#something abt being so in tune w another creature like that is just#so special#we didn’t get to watch the stunt dogs tho we missed the show :((#i kinda want to go back again to see them perform#kinda feeling like it might reignite something in me and maybe i’ll start making steps to be a trainer again#i’ve been missing it#personal

If society collapsed tomorrow and vehicles stopped being a thing, and we had to go back to horse combat, the premier cavalry in the world would be a bunch of young women, they would absolutely dominate any battlefield with the horse advantage, and the matriarchy would begin in blood

it's cool they can be used for working but they don't have to work to have the right to exist!!!!!!!!!!
What even.
They are definitely NOT only for rich people. There are a lot of people in the country who have a horse, just a small plot of land, enough for a couple horses. People enjoy horses. They are like any pet; perhaps a bit more expensive
BUT you can afford a horse if you have just a little extra. You dont have to keep your horse at some fancy stable; you can keep one for pasture boars for $200/month. Or you can lease a horse for $100. Those are the prices I have seen around here.
You can get a horse for $500.
You could also find s friend or family member willing to keep your horse at their place free of charge.
That's what I did. We were definitely NOT rich. I got my horse for $600 (my parents did when i was 11) then my grandparents kept her at their farm. We went there almost every weekend. We actually got 2 for 1 bc the horse was pregnant. It was a pretty good deal. 2 horses for $600 then keep them for free. Nor everyone everyone do this. But it can be done. It shows horses aren't just for rich people-- people with huge ranches or people people live in the city and keep their horse at a stable for $1000/month.
You can get your tack used.
Horses are a great form of recreation and riding can help you get out of the city and be in nature. You can't underestimate how good that is for mental health.
Also horses are people. They have their own personalities. You can form a relationship with them just like with a dog or cat. With the added dimension you get to ride them.
You haven't lived till you've galloped through an open field
I understand the stereotype of rich horse people but it's kind of gotten insane that anyone with a horse is now automatically seen as a landed gentry bourgeois so much so that people are straight up calling horses bourgeois creatures and calling for their ABOLISHMENT and even extinction like wtf is wrong with you. Don't let the era of the automobile erase the horses history as a beast of burden for the working class and farmers. Horses belong to the proletariat just as much if not more than the role of rich person's plaything.
#Horses again in my dreams#;( some ppl are just crazy and know nothing. Just blathering on the internet when they should should out in the woods or sth#Also horses ARE great for therapy#I volunteered at a farm where they did this#Working with horses can help a kids self esteem#They can do horses as a 4H project#There is a program called horseless horse where you work with them#Someone elses#I think for free#There is so much you can do#More than with dogs!!

How to find out
• | There’s a number of ways you could go about doing this but personally the way I find most accurate is checking the Groom and Briede asteroid persona charts. I haven’t been a huge fan of asteroids recently because I feel the natal charts planets, houses, aspects, and degrees can tell much more typically but when it comes to this subject I find great accuracy in these charts. The Groom persona chart represents the husband and the Briede persona chart represents the wife. If your spouse were to be non binary you could check the Descendant persona chart instead
• | Groom code: 5129 — Briede code: 19029
Their appearance
• | Look at the prominent placements in the groom/briede pc which would be stelliums, the ascendant, or 1h planets
• | This applies more so to Western. There can be more interpretations these are just some I’ve witnessed
Aries/1h placements
broad shoulders, masculine/athletic body, sharp/defined eyebrows, intense stare, possible rbf/intimidating face, lots of sex appeal, big head or forehead
Taurus/2h placements
broad shoulders also, soft features, bull-like features, wider nose, body’s on the beefy side (wide rib cage, wide hips, etc), strong jawline, pretty
Gemini/3h placements
thinner build, fairy teeth, mouse/fairy like nose and eyes, fox-like eyes, youthful appearance, possible baby face/child-like cheeks
Cancer/4h placements
moon shaped face, big boobs/prominent chest area, big cute eyes, curvy, possible baby face/full cheeks, soft features, feminine beauty
Leo/5h placements
lion-like facial features, pouty lips, broad shoulders, beautiful/thick hair, good looking
Virgo/6h placements
youthful face/innocent face, prominent cheeks, small nose/thin nose or straight nose, angelic features
Libra/7h placements
deer-like appearance, feminine body or curvy body, big butt, symmetrical features, pretty, possibly dimples, beautiful hair
Scorpio/8h placements
intense stare/possible rbf, broad shoulders, athletic body, strong sex appeal/seductive appearance, mysterious looking, prominent nose
Sagittarius/9h placements
tall, thick thighs, athletic build, big eyes, horse-like features, curvy
Capricorn/10h placements
sharp jawline, skinny, good bone structure, good teeth, intimidating stare
Aquarius/11h placements
skinny, unique appearance, intimidating stare, tall, a unique feature that stands out (example: prominent birth mark)
Pisces/12h placements
big dreamy eyes, big lips, sweet face, ethereal beauty, small feet

Last night Sheila and I met up with friends and went to a county fair.
First we stopped by some other friends' home which is very close to the fairgrounds. The hosts were having a party. They supplied us with good conversation, walking tacos and beverages.
Traffic in the area was heavy. Drivers had to park blocks away. I parked 3/4 mile away at my BIL's house. Being in the middle of commotion like that, when I can walk through it, is fun for me.
My SIL had a beer from Arizona she wanted me to try. This amber ale from Four Peaks Brewing Co. was tasty. The cap wasn't a twist-off. Luckily, I had my Swiss Army knife with me and didn't waste any time going into the house for an opener.
Now off to the fair. There were ribbons!
Vintage tractors- the good:
Vintage tractors - the bad (♪ ♫ Sign, sign, Everywhere a sign, Blockin' out the scenery, Breakin' my mind, Do this, don't do that, Can't you read the sign? ♬♬)
Right to left: A tractor named Oliver, a guy named Bob and another tractor that was 86-years-old.
More things named Bob: A 9-year-old llama, a much older guy and a brand new Bobcat.
Love the 4H kids:
There were cows, pigs, goats, sheep, horses and more. But we liked the llamas the most. So two more pictures of llamas. And Sheila.
No pictures of this, because I'm not a creeper, but we noted the teenage girls universal look: Chunky sole Converse High Tops; high waisted jeans/jorts, minimalist tops (tube tops are back in fashion!) and long, straight hair. The night was getting cool. Surely those young women were going to get cold. Sheila said she didn't mind not raising daughters.
We ate fair food and watched rides.
I regret not trying the Cheesy Garlic Mashed Potato Sundae. It was only $9, not bad for fair food.
It was a fun evening. The walk back to my car burned off maybe 5% of the calories we consumed.

Yurio x Reader who grew up in agriculture. Part 2!
Part 2
Alrighty everyone I’m back with round two of this post. Since y’all seemed to like it I made a part two! Enjoy :3
Description: Yurio attempts to help with farm chores: it doesn’t go well
One day during the off season you and Yuri made plans for him to come visit your family. After settling in for a few days you tell Yuri that you have chores to take care of due to the fair coming up. Out of curiosity (and not wanting to be left alone with your dad who barely spoke) he decided to join you.
he didn’t know what he was getting into
Wasn’t expecting to be woken up at the ass crack of dawn but you know, he wanted to help. He would slowly get dressed and trudge into the kitchen to find you waiting with a hot cup of coffee for him- which he down’s gratefully
After y’all head to the barn to feed the animals. He watched with great interest as you show him the clipboard of the different nutritional needs of all the different animals and is amazed at how fast you prepare the feed. Seriously he’s only mixed up the feed for one horse and you’ve already fed 4!
Once the horses are fed the both of you bring hay out to the cattle(he struggles lifting the bales)
Finally it’s time for his least favorite animals: chickens
He’s hesitant to enter the chicken coop. He says it smells…
He’s actually afraid of your larger laying hen Bethany who chased him around the day he arrived
You laugh and tell him to quite whining.
He’s shaking as he’s filling the feeder and cleaning the water dish.
You roll your eyes and collect the eggs.
Once morning chores are done it’s time for breakfast and oh boy he has never been so hungry. (I think he normally has a very small, light breakfast because of skating. )
You both go inside to find your mother and sister setting the table with trays of eggs, bacon, French toast and fruit. You have to drag him to go wash up because he’s standing there with him mouth open, practically drooling. You can bet that once he finally gets to get he practically chokes with how fast he’s eating…
The day isn’t over yet though.
After breakfast it’s time to tend to the family garden while your dad takes care of the larger fields of feed corn he’s growing. Even still, that family garden is a lot bigger than Yuri anticipated….
Still he has fun weeding. The both of you make it into a game of who can pull the most weeds within a certain time period. You guys just repeat that until all the weeds are gone which takes about an hour.
After that you divide and conquer with the watering: he does the smaller plants with the watering can while you handle the larger ones with the garden hose.
It’s not time to harvest anything yet so you guys are done with that for the day.
Now it’s time to work your show steer and after exercise a few horses before turning the rest out.
This is the part that Yuri is excited for!
You catch your steer and show Yuri how to lead him around as well as the basics of showmanship. He drinks in every word you say about body composition, weight, muscle, behavior etc. Congratulations you now have a wannabe 4H kiddo
He gets a little sad though when he learns that the steers get sold to market. (Please give him a hug he’s in tears)
To cheer him up you decide to show him the horses and honestly he’s a little scared of them at first, they’re just so big-
You notice this and hand him a chunk of apple to give to your horse, showing him to hold his hand flat. He chuckles when he feels how soft the muzzle is and perks right up.
Should I make a part 3?

on a similar vein as my Jersey Gotham fic, I raise you this point: I have not seen a single mentioned of 4-h in any regard to Clark. I mean c’mon, super country boy Clark motherfucking Kent??? Not involved in 4H??? Absurd. My mans was involved in AT LEAST rifle, horse, and cow clubs. Maybe a lil goat club as a treat. (Fuck sheep I have a personal vendetta with them so only sheep slander here). He still has the pledge memorized. He defaults to showing posture when nervous. You bet your ass this man can get any stain— shit blood mud— out of whites because “No I don’t need a dry cleaner Bruce do you know how hard it is to keep an all-white outfit all-white while in a barn I did that when I was seven fuck you”
Clark drops random stories from his time showing and then moved on like he hasn’t just dropped the craziest farmer bullshit city-boy Bruce has ever heard.
“Y’know i once got drunk and stole a tractor and plowed a dick into the field.”
“I’m sorry what?”
“nah nothing.”
Mans just casually drops that he helped establish breed standards multiple times and refined show standards for said breeds. He started a petition to change the classes for showing to include companion animals. PETA has stalked him and has him on their black list. He was excused of all tardies in school because during calving season, he regularly gloved up and pulled calves (bc why bother using an actual calf pulled when you have an alien with super strength).
Yes Clark is an alien, but he is a feral farm boy alien.
#clark kent#superman#dc#4h#country things#farm boy clark#superbat#in the vaguest way possible#fuck sheep sheep slander#for reference my sheep tried to off me multiple times#even tho she was bottlefed#peta thing is based on true story#I am in fact a wanted man by peta#they tried to kidnap my goats from fair once when I was like 12#fuck sheep and fuck peta

I can't remember if it's mentioned or if I've gotten this far into the fic yet... But Southern Michael and performing in Rodeos? Specifically the bucking horses or Bull riding?? 👀👀
Ooooooh we getting to the good stuff!
So the thing is Michael hasn't really done much of those himself. He's watched plenty of shows, but doesn't participate. He's more likely to calm an animal rather than rile it up.
When he and Sam were kids they did 4H (which is what I did). Sam did dog shows with Nanook and Michael showed horses and cows.
I will point out that my darling friend @britany1997 wrote this AMAZING fic which includes Michael in a rodeo competition. She did a beautiful job with this fic and clearly did her research. If everyone like Michael doing it, then who am I to deny the joy of it? 💜

Messrs Payne and Rowland's Adventuring Agency pt 13
Written to wind down after a (good!) 4h call with a friend :D
By the time they reach the coast, the sun is sinking towards the horizon, painting everything in bright shades of oranges and pink that make Crystal smile. She ties her horse to a tree and goes to stand next to Charles and Mr. Payne, idly thinking they're going to need some light and jumping when the palm of her hand starts shining.
"Oh, brilliant!" Charles says, grinning even as Mr. Payne rolls his eyes.
"You've seen me do this countless times," he says, touching his fingers to the clasp holding his robes closed at the collar to make it shine a brilliant white. "Now, the tide is coming in, which means the top entrance will be our best bet. Look for a chasm in the ground, but be careful, I was told it is easy to miss. We wouldn't want—"
Crystal is only half listening to him, eyes idly tracking Charles as he strides confidently away from them with a spring in his steps and his eyes on the ground... Which also makes her the first to see Charles slip down and disappear.
"Mr. Rowland!" Edwin exclaims when Crystal's surprised yelp catches his attention.
He looks abruptly pale in the light from his brooch, and when Crystal sends an arm out in front of him to make sure he doesn't end up the same way as his colleague, he glares at her in a way that almost makes her wonder if he's going to hex her.
"It won't help if we fall down too," she says, grateful to see Mr. Payne take a breath and sigh.
"You are correct. Let's look carefully."
Keeping their light sources high, they carefully make their way to a wide, fairly narrow chasm in the ground. It's wide enough to let a person through, but no so wide that it'd be difficult to jump over it. Not, the thinks, the kind of thing a playing child would worry too much about. Hell, if her parents hadn't said she went to play alone that day, Crystal would imagine her challenging her friends to see who'll have the guts to make the jump.
"Charles?" She calls out cautiously.
"Mr. Rowland! Are you well?"
A grunt comes from the bottom, and both Crystal and Mr. Payne sag with relief.
"Mr. Rowland?"
"Mr. Payne," Charles replies, sounding more like they're meeting in the streets than someone who just took a fall of however many feet. "Do try not to fall down. This think is at least sixty feet deep."
"Do you see a sign of young Rebecca anywhere?"
"It's too dark, I can't see anything. Let me get to the drift globes."
"Please do put on your ring as well," Mr. Payne says as he pulls a string of copper wire out of his pocket. "I would rather avoid shouting too much when we have no idea what took Miss Aspen here."
"You think it could be a creature?" Crystal asks, looking around. "I haven't seen anything big enough to want to go toe to toe with a kid."
"Not on the surface," Mr. Payne admits with a pinched expression, "and it is entirely possible Miss Aspen went wherever she is now of her own volition... But there are some seas creatures that do not turn their noses up at human meat."
Crystal grimaces, but before she has time to voice her disgust at the thought, Mr. Payne pauses.
"Mr. Rowland says there is no sign of her or another body where he is," he says, "but the tide is coming in. Come, young Crystal. We need to find a point of entry that can also be used as an exit."
"What about Charles?"
"He will go look for Miss Aspen, of course." Mr. Payne points down into the chasm and, speaking into his copper wire, says: "Do be careful, Mr. Rowland."
And then he takes Crystal further towards the coast.

Last Thursday I called in sick to physical therapy. I told them I had Fairitis. Receptionist laughed & said, “I had that yesterday.” 😆. We go to look at the animals & the art &, of course, eat fair food.
For some reason people kept offering to let me pet/hold their animals! First a very nice 10-ish year old girl approached & asked if I wanted to hold her chicken. Which I did indeed. In all my years around farms, I’ve never actually *held* a chicken. She told us a lot of information about chickens, was very knowledgeable and very polite. She had won first place for her chickens - the one I was holding, and then also she had the largest chicken I have ever seen in my life. She explained to us that even though it wasn’t an egg chicken, they fed it really good food that you would normally only feed to an egg chicken and that’s how it got so big. It made me wonder - and if anyone involved with 4H knows this - do the judges just judge based on the animal or do they talk to the child as well and judge also based on how knowledgeable the child is about the animal’s care? Because if that’s the case, no wonder this young lady won a couple of first place prizes.
Then we were walking through the bunnies and a girl who was about 8 years old was sitting, holding her bunny, and offered me to hold it. It was called a lionhead bunny. Not only had I never seen one, I’d never heard of one. I was so busy holding it, I forgot to get a photo. But search lionhead bunny on the Internet because they are the coolest looking rabbits I’ve ever seen.
Later when we were at the goats, I was taking some photos of some baby goats in the pen and the grandpa was sitting there and he said , “I’ll let them out. You can give them some pets.” He told us he used to come to the fair and when he would see certain kids weren’t able to sell their goats, he would offer to buy them, just to be nice. But then he said that goats are so funny and entertaining, that he really got into them. And when his grandson had to come live with them, the grandson got into 4H. So he went from being a 4H supporter to a 4H parent.
And when we were walking through the horse area and there was a horse in the way, and the teenager was trying to move him to the side to get out of the way of my wheelchair, and we were allowed to pet the horse.
And of course, we looked at all of the art and photography. As an artist, I love all of that stuff. (Posted some photos of the art on my FB, but not putting any here because Tumblr is a reblog site & it’s not my art. Animals are fair game though. Get it, *fair* game?)
Also, there was this plant and a group of people walking in front of us and all of a sudden the plant moved and reached out towards them and started to speak. The people in front of us jumped so high and screamed so loud. It was hysterical! Turned out there was a guy in that plant and the whole thing was a costume that he and his wife made together. He was just standing there, startling people as they walked by. He was super nice. He talked to us about his costume and let me have a photo with him.
And then we ate fair food and went home. It was perfect weather last Thursday. We were initially gonna go on Monday because that was also a work from home day for Sis, but the weather had been terrible. But on Thursday I got up and it was absolutely gorgeous and I said, “Screw physical therapy. We’re going to the fair. I want funnel cake!”

hey so... i do have a horse in this race.. or... squirrel!
so, i was a long time member of my county 4h club. one of two leaders, an elder man with a farm in his backyard (a very well ran and taken care of farm that i had the pleasure of helping out on a few times). one day, a baby squirell fell from the tree and he took it in. he went from mr. gray to mama gray, feeding it from a bottle and craddling it around the farm. one day, one of his neighbors found out and reported him to some sort of animal authortiy. they came and tried to take the baby squirell from him, because he didn't have an official squirell license. they devated for hours, before mr gray said "if i left that squirell, he would he alone to die. eaten up by predators or even another squirell. and the same thing will happen if hes taken, so why shouldn't i give him the option of having a life?". they finally left him alone. i mean, after all, the man cares from rodents (rabbits), poultry and reptiles. what less is a squirell to the mix up? anyway, rip peanut, justice for the vigilante squirell owners of the US!
