in follow up to my timeline (for those who haven't seen it / want to reference: https://www.tumblr.com/hartz-penny/705740236884508672/after-celinas-its-2022-comment-in-510-i), i wanted to jot down some info on the relationships in relation to it!
WOPEZ:
Met in 1.10 "Flesh and Blood" and agree to go out by the end of the episode, by my timeline (1.01 being ~ March 2019 and 1.20 being 6 months later aka ~ September 2019), let's say this is June 2019 since its half way through the season
They break up briefly between 1.12 and are back together by 1.18, they fight in 1.20 but are firmly together by episode's end, again per my timeline this is approx. Sept 2019
They have moved in together as of 2.01 which is still ~ Sept 2019
Wesley is stabbed in 2.06 "Fallout" which we'll assume is Oct / Nov 2019
Wesley proposes - which Angela accepts - in 2.16 "The Overnight", as this is after DOD (09Dec2019) but before 2.20 (the rookies' "one month push") we can guess this is Jan or Feb 2020; they have been together for about 7-8 months total (including their breakup)
Wesley discovers Angela is pregnant in 3.01 "Consequences" by finding her pregnancy test, I'm going to assume Angela was between 3-7 weeks pregnant - wide range I know but I can't imagine her being any more far along than that and *not* have taken a test prior - here which is approx March 2020
Season 3 takes place over the course of two months since it begins right when the "one month push" begins, Lucy and Jackson graduate to P2 in 3.14 and Nolan becomes a P2 in 4.01 after completing his one month extension
This would mean that Wopez's first attempt at a wedding in 3.14 takes place in May 2020, they have been together for about 11 months; Angela is also kidnapped by La Fiera in this episode
Jackson "Jack" Lopex-Evers is born after the 3 month time jump that happens at the end of 4.01, putting his DOB in approx. Aug 2020
Wopez get married offscreen between 4.01 and 4.02 - which would still be Aug 2020, they have been together for just over a year
5.10 is apparently "2022" which per my timeline is Jan 2022
TL;DR Wopez has been together for 2 and a half years as of 5.10
HARRAY / JYLA (Nyla x James):
Met in 3.02 "In Justice" which takes place in approx March 2020
Had their sparring class in 3.11 "New Blood" which we'll say is when they first get involved, this in approx. April 2020
Nyla is dating both James and that hot dad in 4.03 "In The Line of Fire" and by the end of the episode is dating just James, this is approx. Sep 2020
Nyla sleeps with Donovan in 4.05 "A.C.H" (31Oct2020)
In 4.11 "End Game", Nyla discovers she is 6 weeks pregnant - I assume this to be mid-Dec 2020 - at this point Nyla and James have been dating for 8 months, exclusive for 3 months
Nyla and James get married in 4.18 "Backstabbers" - approx. Apr 2021; they have been dating 12 months, together exclusively for 7 months
Leah Harper-Murray is born in 5.02 "Labor Day" which takes place in ~ Jun / Jul 2021
As of 5.10 "The List", Leah is 5 months old and per Celina it is "2022", most likely January
TL;DR Jyla has been together for a year and a half as of 5.10
I'm not doing John and Bailey because I do not care about them.
CHENFORD:
Get ready folks because we'll cover a lot!
1.01 "Pilot" - estimated Mar 2019 per my timeline, "Bradford, you get our hotshot", Tim is assigned Lucy as his rookie
Tim & Isabel
In 1.01 it's revealed that Tim hasn't seen Isabel in a year
Tim and Isabel met as rookies, and Lucy states in 2.08 "Clean Cut" that Tim is a 12-year veteran; as S2 takes place from month 6 to month 12 of Lucy's rookie year, we can estimate that Tim and Isabel were together for about 11 years at the time of their divorce, if 2.08 takes place in Oct / Nov 2019 (it occurs between 2.01 which is approx. Sep 2019 and 2.11 which is established 09Dec2019), Tim and Isabel met (and were rookies in) 2007
We don't know what year Tim and Isabel were married
Based on the LAPD guidelines, rookies become P2s after their 13-month probationary period, become P3s after 3 years as a P2 - based on this Tim and Isabel would've reached this point in 2011
I can't remember where I saw it, but I believe to test out of P3, you need to have put in 1 year, and since Isabel was a UC in Narcotics, we can assume she was a Detective I, and let's say it took her 3-4 years to get there from P3 since Armstrong said he was the fastest to get to detective and it took him 4 years (I'm assuming he meant from P2 to Detective I) bringing us to 2014-2015
Let's say Isabel started the addiction spiral around 2016-2017 since Tim ignored it for a while at first and she was probably able to hide it for a bit before it got to the point where Tim was starting to pick up and thought she was having an affair and that Isabel left around late 2017 / early 2018 to match the "I haven't seen her in a year" of 1.01
Isabel is shot in the head in 1.08 "Time of Death" by Vance
Tim and Isabel agree to divorce in 1.12 "Heartbreak" which apparently is Valentine's Day but I choose to ignore bc Feb 2019 ruins my entire timeline and doesn't make sense with any other established date so we're going to say that its 3-4 months into Lucy's rookie year and is May-June 2019 (we don't know when the divorce is finalized specifically but Lucy says "since the divorce" in 2.03 "The Bet", which is approx. Sep / Oct 2019)
Lucy and Nolan 🤮
Are "together" as of 1.01, and have been dating / sleeping together / literally doing the nasty bc seriously I hate them together so much since the academy
Based on how casual they're both treating it, lets say its been going on for 3 months as of 1.01
They break up in 1.04 "The Switch", sleep together again in 1.08 "Time of Death" and end it for good (thank GOD) in 1.09 "Standoff" - this is approx. April / May 2019, putting their entire length of relationship at 6 months
Tim and Rachel
Set up on a date by Lucy in 2.03 "The Bet" - approx. Sept / Oct 2019
Tim considers moving to NYC with Rachel in 2.19 "The Q Word" but ultimately does not, they do not break up - approx. Mar 2020
Tim and Rachel break up offscreen at some point in S3, definitely before Angela's wedding when Tim openly checks Lucy out and S3 is 2 months long, so the max length of Tim & Rachel's relationship is 7 months
Lucy and Emmett
Meet in 2.17 "Control" and start dating despite Tim's belief that Lucy can do better - approx. Feb / Mar 2020
Break up in 3.08 "Bad Blood", as this is right before Lucy's final shift as a rookie (which is approx. Apr 2020), we'll say that they break up in Mar / Apr 2020; their relationship is about 2 months long
Tim and Ashley
Meet in 4.06 "Poetic Justice" and begin officially dating between here and 4.08 "Hit and Run" as Tim tells Genny that he is not single - approx. Nov 2020
Are planning a trip to Hawaii in 4.21 "Mother's Day" in which Lucy initially assumes Tim is going to propose, Tim & Ashley have been together for about 6 months at this point as it is May 2021; Tim finds out Ashley does not want marriage or children - a thing he very much does want - and for some reason stays in this "magic" relationship (srsly Timothy???)
Finally break up in 5.05 "The Fugitive" literally 10 seconds after Tim gets out of SPINAL SURGERY because Ashley remembered that Tim is a cop and being a cop is dangerous and I know Tim is pretty but like what did you expect? Just because he was telling your dad to retire meant he secretly wanted to too? This is late October 2021 as its right before 5.06 which is confirmed Halloween
Total length of relationship: ALMOST A GD YEAR...
Lucy and Chris
Meet in 4.10 "Heart Beat" and they are not fans of each other
Set up on a double date with Tim and Ashley by Tim in 4.12 "The Knock"; have their first real date at the end of the episode - approx. Dec 2020 / Jan 2021
Chris calls Lucy his girlfriend in 4.15 "Hit List", Lucy defines Chris as her "work in progress" - approx. Mar 2021
Chris is targeted by Rosalind in 5.01 "Double Down" (and sadly survives) - approx Jun 2021
After Chris gets Tim to convince Lucy to go to UC school, they are still together when Lucy comes back in 5.03 "Dye Hard", ~ Aug / Sep 2021
Chris asks Lucy to move in / buy a house together in 5.08 "The Collar" she is very on the fence, Lucy has not said I love you but Chris has because they "haven't been together that long" (it's been almost a year Lucy, he's just not Tim!!); Lucy and Tim confess their feelings after Tim confronts Lucy about staying in the relationship because its safe, Lucy decides to break up with Chris
Lucy and Chris finally break up in 5.09 "Take Back" ~ Dec 2021, making their total length of relationship between 11-12 months
BACK TO LUCY AND TIM:
Time as TO & Rookie: 13 months (1.01 - 3.14)
Time as Sergeant & Sergeant's Aide: ~ 9 months (4.04 - 5.02) [~ Oct 2020 to Jun / Jul 2021]
Length of time to first kiss: 2 years, 1 month (4.22)
Length of time to feelings confession: 2 years, 6 months (5.08)
Length of time to first date & first official kiss: 2 years, 7 months (5.10)
#and this is why i was a fantastic project manager (quoting my previous manager) and am a fantastic product innovation manager#i love a timeline and a deep dive#anyways#enjoy and use away for fanfics friends#tim x lucy#the rookie#chenford#usercher#userburn#tuserbecca#usertimlucy#angela lopez#wesley evers#wopez#nyla harper#james murray

@dearophelia replied to your post “Once I get the current hyperfixation written down...”:
So if you were to recommend *the* Chenford episodes, what would they be?
Okay, so forgive me because this is actually going to be a THING. So I'll give you the ep and why I think it's important. (Also, this would be a different list if you asked for pivotal Lucy and/or Tim eps as well, so I can do that too, iffen you want.) 😉
1.01 Pilot - Because you meet all the key players, including Chenford. And this ep, especially, does a great job of laying the groundwork for Tim as we meet him.
1.06 The Hawke - This one isn't necessary, but it's a good bonus! There's a great Chenford moment in this that does a nice job of illustrating how Tim and Lucy are progressing.
1.11 Redwood - There's a terrific Chenford moment in this ep that will be called back later, and is also the source of a lot of fandom/fanfic callbacks. It's great.
1.14 Plain Clothes Day - So much awesome Chenford groundwork in this ep. And, if it's the third ep you watch, it's a great check in for where they are vs where they started, because now we're about 2/3 of the way through the intro season.
1.19 The Checklist - Lucy and Tim are really a TEAM in this ep, and it's awesome.
1.20 Freefall - The first real elements of shippiness have arrived!
2.01 Impact - The continuation of 1.20.
2.06 Fallout - Tim and Lucy + mortal peril. I mean, it's good stuff. It's also just a bonus ep, not crucial for getting a good feel for the ship.
2.10 The Dark Side - this is the setup for a critical Chenford ep...
2.11 Day of Death - one of the most critical Chenford episodes. This is serious business.
2.13 Follow-up Day - This is the first time Chenford makes a major life decision because of the other one.
3.07 True Crime - I'm calling this a bonus ep because while it has some awesome Chenford banter, it's not critical to their story.
3.11 New Blood - Lucy's jealous and it's adorable.
3.14 Threshold - This ep includes a pivotal Chenford moment and contains the look that might very well have launched a thousand ships.
4.01 Life and Death - the continuation of 3.14 and includes another pivotal Chenford scene.
4.09 Breakdown - this is a crucial Tim episode made sweeter by some Lucy jealousy. She's finally recognizing she's got feelings.
4.12 The Knock - Hands down, some of the best Chenford scenes.
4.16 Real Crime - Another bonus because great Chenford banter but not crucial.
4.21 Mother's Day - The setup for the season finale, in so, so many ways. And some real great Chenford details heading into the next ep.
4.22 Day in the Hole - there are two storylines. You don't need the Nolan one at all unless you want it. The Chenford storyline is a real hoot and the ship setting sail. This is one to definitely not skip!
All that said, nearly all the eps have Chenford gems, so hopefully, if you're into it, you'll get around to them all! Also, there are some episodes that do character building for Lucy or Tim that I didn't include, that end up being paramount for their overall Chenford story, but don't really affect the general gist of the 'ship-story. But I'm happy to add them in if you're interested!

Okay, so what if Tim's dad dies and thats a catalyst for them. They've kissed now? With the moment in 4.01 they didn't know how the other felt but since the kiss things have changed. What if in the heat of the moment they sleep together? And the 2nd half of S5 is them dealing with the fallout ?? 🤷🏽♀️😬
Hi lovely anon!
I wouldn’t mind seeing his father die as a catalyst.
I don’t think Chenford is the type to sleep together in the heat of the moment, especially if one or both are still attached to a LI. That’s not their style in my opinion.

Ranking Every SPN Season Premiere
15) 11.01 Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire. For an otherwise strong season, s11 sure started and ended in D tier. Not only is there a baffling amount of screen time spent on Cas’s weird and uninteresting rage spell, Crowley’s sexcapades, and too many one-episode characters, but the whole thing is sewn together with uneven flashbacks. The core concept itself is off: Darkness-as-rage-zombie-infection feels totally out of place in the rest of the season, and any personal fallout from 10.23 is mostly brushed aside. The only thing I like about 11.01 is Sam’s determination to find a cure and save everyone, and the mention of the cage.
14) 10.01 Black. Just because I do quite like demon!Dean’s apathy doesn’t mean it’s gripping television: he’s much better in 10.02 and 10.03, and most of 10.01 is spent on Crowley’s overdramatic griping. Cole is objectively very silly, but, look, I’m only flesh: Sam bloodied and in a sling and tied to a chair is good content, and rescues this one from D tier.
13) 15.01 Back and to the Future. Just like 11.01, 15.01 has to brush past Dean’s willingness to execute a family member in the previous episode, and it introduces a pretty weak zombies plot. However, it gets major points for Sam’s bullet wound visions, and is generally much better staged than 11.01.
12) 6.01 Exile on Main St. A genuinely interesting episode for Dean--both his domestic montage and being faced with Samuel are fresh takes on his relationship with family. Soulless is great, but isn’t quite hitting his stride; 6.01 lays groundwork but hasn’t yet built into s6′s greatest strengths.
11) 3.01 The Magnificent Seven. This one’s kinda campy, but there is some legitimately horrifying imagery, like the guy forced to drink drain cleaner. The deadly sins demons are underwhelming on the whole, but Ruby shows up in fine form, and Sam’s anger with Dean’s willingness to throw his life away establishes a great tone for s3.
10) 8.01 We Need to Talk About Kevin. Kevin is badass, Amelia is amazingly, unapologetically polarizing, Dean is raw, and I don’t really care about Benny. Sam is in a healthier spot right here than we’ll see him for a long, long time, which tees up his anti-recovery arc quite nicely.
9) 1.01 Pilot. It’s a solid introduction. Sam and Dean’s chemistry is potent and undeniable from the get-go. The way they work together so well, layered on top of so much conflict both spoken and unspoken, the things they want and the things they deny wanting--their first time interacting as adults out from under their father’s influence. It’s good!
8) 12.01 Keep Calm and Carry On. Look, I pretend to have complex opinions, but actually I am very, very simple: I just want to watch Sam tied to a chair and tortured. This is the best BMoL episode of the season by a long shot. On top of that, Mary’s introduction forces the uncomfortable and fascinating realization that she’s not going to fit quietly into Dean’s expectations. That final scene of Sam hurt and imprisoned without hope is gorgeous and memorable. 12.01 promised a lot for s12, and it’s a shame that most of it didn’t get followthrough.
7) 14.01 Stranger in a Strange Land. These next four are difficult to arrange, because they’re all so different. This episode has pretty much the only even vaguely interesting material AU!Michael gets all season. Far more importantly, Sam has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and it’s a great look. He has a beard, and he’s looking after Nick (!!), and he’s leading a group of hunters, and he declares that Hell itself better stand the fuck down. Sam for King of Hell 2k18. Iconic.
6) 2.01 In My Time of Dying. John’s deal, and his directive for Dean to save Sam or kill him, is a major turning point that colors everything for years. The human intimacy of the small-scale family drama, unfolding with no magic besides a terrible soul deal to rely upon, feels personal and real. Plus, Sam and Dean communicate via ouija board.
5) 5.01 Sympathy for the Devil. Meg and Zachariah are both in fine form. The apocalyptic set pieces are teed up and ready to be set loose. Sam jumps on the bandwagon of his own castigation, and it aches. Lucifer’s introduction is quiet, and chilling, and note-perfect.
4) 13.01 Lost and Found. It’s hard to significantly change the landscape of a 13-year-old show, and for the better, but 13.01 does just that. Jack is a breath of fresh air. His dynamics with Sam and Dean are complex and heartbreaking--he asks after his father, Sam locks himself in a cell with him. Dean’s blank absolutism mixes uneasily with Sam’s relentless determination and Jack’s innocence. It’s a wonderful new twist on an old formula.
3) 4.01 Lazarus Rising. Dean crawls out of his own grave, Sam’s with Ruby, Cas blows out windows and burns out eyes. 4.01 throws the mythological doors wide open with the introduction of angels, and ratchets the season up to an apocalyptic scale: it’s awesome.
2) 9.01 I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here. I am always and forever intrigued by Sam’s Mind Forests. Dean does something unforgivably horrible to Sam, and in doing so, opens the door to a fascinating arc, wherein his choices here and his treatment of Sam are deconstructed and then reconstructed and then deconstructed again. I’ll never get tired of season 9, by which I mean I’ll never get tired of the fallout from the BOLD choice that 9.01 made to put this conflict front and center.
1) 7.01 Meet the New Boss. If you thought I wasn’t going to put Hallucifer first, you must be extremely new here. Sam’s psychological undoing is chilling and deeply claustrophobic and possibly my favorite thing the show has ever done. On top of that, we have Godstiel’s terrifying purges, Sam and Dean summoning Death in someone’s living room, and even a taste of cosmic horror in LeviaCas. I would tell you how many times I’ve watched 7.01-7.02, but I’ve wholly lost count.

Thoughts!! Promo pics!!!! What are they!!!? Shasaaare!!! ......
Pweeze 🥺
I’m really intrigued actually! I was just saying to friends that I actually love how quickly Boland Bubbles is being scrutinised because I think it demonstrates that the investigation didn’t die with Turner and that in turn lends greater weight to Beth and Dean losing Boland Motors, and shows it as a loose end, not something handwaved away.
It looks to me like Beth’s going to end up getting bribed or blackmailed into working with Dave and Phoebe to take down Rio, and that’s why she tries to call off the hit, which I actually think makes a lot of sense. That said, it definitely makes me think too that errrrr, Dave’s not going to live long?
I mean, look at the other episode titles that have been a character name:
2.12 - Jeff
3.05 - Au Jus
3.08 - Nana
And now 4.04 - Dave
Plus 4.04 was supposed to be the penultimate episode of season 3, right? And while I don’t think it’ll be setting up for as wild a time as 1.10 or 2.13 given they’ve likely remoulded 3.16/4.05 to be a more cohesive early season cliffhanger as opposed to a finale, I still think we’ll be getting a pretty explosive 4.05/4.06 in a way that’s likely going to clear the board a bit in terms of characters, plots and arcs in the same way that the finale-premiere’s traditionally do.
Either way, I’m excited to see the fallout, and I think it’s going to be a really emotional few episodes across the board! Beth and Rio’s dynamic already feels really different to me this season, and I think we’re really going to see them start to untangle the complexity of that over these next few episodes. Hell, I think we already have in 4.01 and 4.02 with Rio blackmailing Beth but ultimately not following through.

Hey! You've talked a lot about how merlin is an unfinished show that would have been really good if it had got its ending. But it had five seasons and a lot of episodes, and sometimes I think they honestly should have accomplished more and they should have sped up some things. I guess what I'm asking is how many more seasons do you think would have been needed? How close were we to the ending?
Hi there!
Personally, I think they only needed one more. And other people are welcome to have their own opinions on that; I know there are some people out there who even really liked the finale, which for me personally is incomprehensible, but it’s cool; we all like different things!
My understanding of Merlin as a plot, in terms of where the arc is at various points in the show, is that the end of Season 5 is set up as the Lowest Point. And what I mean by that is that in many stories (at least in the tradition that Merlin BBC belongs to; storytelling arcs and elements obviously vary tremendously across cultures and won’t always follow the same patterns) you have your characters getting into problems, problems, problems, until they finally hit a setback that is so bad you’re not sure how they’re going to turn it around. It’s like...”the darkest hour,” to quote the show itself.
But out of that point comes the change. The characters have to fight their way back up to their eventual triumph (which isn’t necessarily always a completely happy ending, but which does at least answer the questions posed at the beginning of the story and fulfill the story’s promises).
The end of Season 5 was that point, for me. Arthur makes his biggest mistake (executing Kara and breaking with Mordred). Merlin’s secret is out to Morgana. Morgana has declared war. And Arthur, according to the Disir and Finna’s prophecy, is doomed.
That looks pretty bad. But that’s exactly where things need to be to spark a change. They start to set that up for us, just a couple of episodes prior to the finale - that scene where Mordred confronts Morgana in “With All My Heart” is the first time we’ve ever seen her look conflicted or show any sign of remorse. Arthur is starting to doubt himself (”i’ve just made a terrible mistake, haven’t i?”). Mordred is conflicted, even after defecting (that deleted scene where he says he thinks there is still good in Arthur and he isn’t sure that war is the answer - unbelievable that they cut this). Merlin’s moral crisis - the conflict between helping Arthur and helping his community - has come to a disastrous head with Kara’s execution, and is ripe to finally be addressed. Merlin and Arthur are both grappling with their responsibilities to Morgana (yet another deleted scene, where they discuss her and Merlin says, “there were other people better placed to help Morgana,” implicating himself). And the seeds for a re-exploration of Gwen and Morgana’s conflict are there, too, in aftermath of the enchanted!gwen arc (which arc could have been a lot better, yes, but there was so much room to keep going places with the fallout).
I think killing off half the characters (and then the entire world where the show is set) at the exact moment where we’re expecting to see the first steps toward a real resolution of everyone’s arcs, was incredibly poor construction. I think having Arthur zoom through his grappling with Merlin as a sorcerer in half an hour was shockingly lazy (and impossible to believe). I think killing Morgana like that was a waste. I think killing Mordred like that was a waste. All these characters were set up to be going somewhere. Their arcs weren’t finished.
It’s why I say Merlin feels like a cancelled show, because it doesn’t really have an ending for me; it just stops at the point where things were starting to turn around. None of its premises were addressed, none of its promises were fulfilled, and none of its plotlines were resolved.
The quote I always think about in relation to this is the exchange Merlin and Arthur have in 4.01, when they’ve lost their torch and are hiding, about to be attacked by the Dorocha.
“They say it’s always darkest before the dawn.”
“Feels pretty dark right now.”
“It can’t be long, then.”
This how I see the end of Season 5. Things are at their darkest point, but it can’t be long, then, before the dawn arrives. Personally, I think the story only needed one more season to get there.
But that’s just me, and other folks are obviously welcome to interpret the show differently!

6.03, The Third Man.
Which is, apparently Cas.
The episode starts with Dean waking up alone in his car, where he'd been sleeping off the side of the road but dreaming about being in bed with Lisa, as if part of him knows that bit of his life is already gone.
Sam's behaving entirely un-Sam-like (paying for sex, after 4.01 had him indignantly commenting about how he never does, running like a machine from one case to the next at a pace even Dean finds too much). And we meet Balthazar, and get introduced to the undercurrent theme of all of s6 (so of course this is a Ben Edlund episode, who honestly did his best to make a coherent narrative out of this rambling season even if he had to do it single-handedly). I mean, the value of souls in a free-for-all wartime economy.
We also learn that Sam's apparently been praying to Cas for answers for the entire year he's been back, and Cas has neglected to answer him. And... I think their entire conversation from the word Hello right through "more profound bond" all the way to "you think I came because YOU called?" says an equal lot about both Sam and Cas...
We learn about Cas's desperation due to the war in Heaven, how dire his situation has grown and get a hint at the sorts of desperate plays he's been forced to make, such as investigating a potential Biblical Plague situation and hoping it might help lead him to a weapon that could turn the tide of his war in his favor. I mean, that's not the play of a guy who feels confident in his position.
But this also makes us question SAM. I mean... even if Cas didn't have any answers for him (and I mean, we won't learn for a long time that he did have answers, he was just ashamed of the truth here), you'd think that after a year of constant nagging prayers aimed at him, Cas would've at least like... left a voicemail for Sam... stuck a post-it note to his car saying "sorry, Sam, I don't have answers for you, brb currently losing an apocalyptic-level war in Heaven..." But from Cas's reactions, I wonder if he ever even HEARD Sam's prayers. I mean... can a soulless person even effectively transmit a prayer that will reach an angel? I think this was also meant to be a big clue about what was actually wrong with Sam... and that this may have been Cas's second big hint (after watching Sam walk away from Dean at Lisa's after resurrecting him in the first place) that something was profoundly wrong with Sam (and that it might literally be entirely his own fault).
Cas acts shady (willing to kidnap and essentially torture a child to get the information he needs), but Sam... Sam doesn't object. And to Dean, that's even more shady... (especially since Dean's willing to demand Cas give Sam that same sort of "examination" just a few episodes later, in 6.07).
and then there's this:
CASTIEL: If we can beat Raphael, we can end this! Just give me the weapons. BALTHAZAR: [ Laughs. ] Do you know what's funny about you? You actually believe that you can stop the fighting. It will never stop. My advice -- grab something valuable and fake your own death. CASTIEL: You've gone insane. Your little holiday is over. Raphael knows you're alive by now. BALTHAZAR: Oh, Raphael can try me anytime. I'm armed. I'm sorry, Cas. All else aside, I'm really, really happy to see you. Even though you still have that stick up your ass.
And the horrific thing is that Balthazar is right. Eventually Cas will take so much of the burden of guilt for Heaven's actions on his own shoulders, and it's gonna take him YEARS to work through all the fallout of his current choices. He still believes. He still feels like he can "save" heaven. And his guilt from this will lead him to fall under Heaven's power again in s8, to make him vulnerable to Metatron's lies at the end of the season that lead to the Angel Fall Event, to inserting himself back into the wars in Heaven even after he's effectively out by having been rendered Human... He STILL tries to believe that heaven and the angels can be brought to see reason... until he just can't anymore, and finally declares his loyalty to Humanity, and the Winchesters.
This... is the start of it all.

Peggy, Philomena, and the consequences thereof...
Even though the framing of Philomena for spying was, perhaps, a fairly minor note amidst all the action of the 4.01 and 4.02 premiere, it struck me profoundly with how shockingly DRASTIC (and dark) a move it was for Peggy and what a terribly serious situation it puts Philomena in. Going into 4.03 tonight, however, I’ve come around to wondering whether the consequences of this action will ultimately fall not on Philomena but on Peggy herself.
Which is not to downplay Philomena’s danger, because, like I said: accusations of spying, i.e. of treason, are freaking SERIOUS. This accusation could literally get Philomena executed. Even if it never comes to that for lack of evidence, it could absolutely get her imprisoned in dangerous and deplorable conditions and mistreated in pursuit of a confession and information. Have we forgotten Abe’s imprisonment in the Sugar House? Selah’s stint on the Jersey? The summary executions of Patience Wright and her lover, who had no part in her activities at all? The round-up of traitors in Setauket in season 1? Bad shit happens to spies and traitors and insurrectionists (and even just to suspected ones!), and not necessarily with any kind of fair trial. And this is Peggy Shippen Arnold, a respectable woman of very high class, using her very intimate access to the Spyhunter General to accuse an actress. True, it’s not Peggy herself who supposedly has knowledge of this treason, but she’s lending her significant credibility to Freddie’s account. And in a game of “she said / she said,” who’s more likely to be believed? An actress, or the Spyhunter General’s wife?
Despite that, however, I feel ... relatively comfortable that Philomena will be okay. Somehow. If only because she’s always been a pretty sympathetic character in her own right and because anything that happens to her as a result of this accusation is on Peggy, on Peggy’s conscious and intentional framing of an innocent woman -- and having Peggy be responsible for Philomena’s death would take Peg down a seriously dark road, from the perspective of character morality & audience sympathy. Darker than the show wants for Peggy, I think, as she’s always been presented pretty sympathetically. Maybe this is just wishful thinking, because I like both Peggy and Philomena and don’t want to see either of them go down that road, but I think it won’t go that far.
Unfortunately for Peggy, though, I can see ways this could backfire on her.
Philomena knows about Peggy and Andre. And now she has damn good reason to spill the beans about that. Again, suspected spies are not always afforded the fairest of trials, but surely Philomena will at least be questioned, and this puts her in Arnold’s line of sight. If she learns that it was Freddie who accused her and Peggy who brought Freddie forward, I feel like she’d have the opportunity to defend herself with something along the lines of, “Oh, yes, Freddie DID do my highroll, Mr. Spyhunter General Sir. I was doing intelligence work under Major Andre, you see, and also doing other things under him, and he instructed Freddie to make me look more like your wife, whom he was shagging. But I’m sure that has NOTHING to do with why she would accuse me, right?”
Arnold learning about Peggy and Andre could easily lead to more than mere jealousy. Could he begin to review past events and wonder -- was it all a plot from the beginning? Was she working with Andre the entire time, and the only reason she ever wrote me was to get me to turn my coat? And knowing Arnold’s temper and his pride and his penchant for holding grudges, I can only imagine how furious this would make him. Bad enough that she had a lover before him; far worse that she would help that lover manipulate him; a cherry on top of it all that she would lie to his face about this actress being a traitor. I hope no repercussions fall on Freddie for the part he played; he doesn’t have the protection of being married to the officer he’s just lied to.
I guess we’ll see. I just wanted to get this theory out of my brain before the episode airs, whatever ultimately happens. I really hope the consequences don’t prove too dire for either lady, but it’s such a serious crime that I can’t help but fear that serious fallout could result.

AOS 4x09: Mack is 110% Done and Expletive, Expletive, Expletive, EXPLETIVE!!!!
Well
How we doing?
Good?
Shocked?
Peeved?
Nervous?
Nursing a pint of Ben and Jerry’s?
Terrified they have to show their child this episode tomorrow because she is gonna flip out.
Some theories took a big hit tonight while others re surged. Lets get right to it under the thing. I already see the asks coming in and boy are we going to have fun.
That was A LOT to cover here so here we go guys. I’m still trying to process all of this.
Mack: Man I LOVE Mack! He was done with the robot uprising and put the shotgun ax to good use. The Mackelena banter was just fantastic. They are in a nice honeymoon period...that’s all going south eventually, sorry guys I just trust my gut with this one. Mack needs to tread lightly....Radcliffe might not take too kindly to him decapitating AIDA 1.0 down the line.
Elena: She was still recovering and we won’t see her really back in action until 11 since she’s not on the press release. Just adorable banter with Mack.
Coulson: Coulson...are we not seeing the tells here with Robo May? And yes lets not be worried when May keeps asking where the Darkhold is. That aside Coulson is in a really good place just all around, best we’ve seen him in a long time. He’s got Daisy back home, things are progressing with May, and he can just be an agent again. He is even getting along with Mace, they are agreeing, and we will continue to see things progress at bit with Robo May. Though I am excited to see who he is planning on taking the Darkhold too. Still have my eye on Koenig and Randolph for now.
Robo May: Well I was right in that she doesn’t know she’s Robo May, she thinks she is real May. We still don’t know when the swap happened and now that we know Radcliffe is 100% behind this her getting swapped out back in 3/4 is back on the table and 4 was Radcliffe testing if May could fool Fitz, not if AIDA could fool May. Ugh my heart. It still seems like the swap was pretty recent since they hadn’t come up with a long term solution for keeping her contained. Though it does look that as early as next week Robo May starts to realize something isn’t right. The conversation Fitz and Radcliffe had in the server room about how AIDA evolved I very much feel will apply more to Robo May than AIDA. She is going to be the one who essentially becomes her own person.
May: Is going to be PEEVED when she wakes up. She’s going to be their prisoner for some time to come but will be the hostage from hell. You go May!
Mace: What I love and hate about what they are doing with him is one minute I can’t stand him and then the next I think he’s coming around and I have hope he’s not going to double cross everyone at some point. He is very much over his head in all this but at the same time does seem willing to listen to the others when they are playing nice. He made headway with Daisy today, went a bit off book to save Vijay, and has a newfound respect for Jemma...feel bad about the bag now don’t you that you know she’s been kidnapped a few times. He’s made a very dangerous enemy in Nadeer and next week we’ll get a lot of his backstory. I am feeling REALLY good about my Patriot Theory now. For me the biggest danger with Mace is who is pulling his strings and got him his powers and the position of Director.
Jemma: THAT IS OUR GIRL! Kudos to Fitz for the primo self defense gear there for her. Taser bobbi pins. Her undercover skills have come a long ways since the Hub. I do have major concerns that the Watchdogs or Nadeer will feel like she is a threat they need to take out at some point. Love the Daisy team up. But it looks like we FINALLY get her and Fitz back in the lab together next week. We also saw her and Mace find a bit of common ground/bury the hatchet. We’ll just have to see how things shake out next week when they start digging into Mace’s secret.
Daisy: YAY! Daisy is back with the team! Yay she is taking no crap from Mace and him trying to bond with her! We’re going to see Daisy have to take on the Quake PR role (Burrows she’s gonna deck you if you keep that up) and she isn’t really going to like it. But for now, she’ll play along. We’ll also watch as she continues to heal herself and heal the relationships with the others on the team. I think we’ll see her get some time with everyone over the next few episodes and be tied more to Mace’s story line.
Fitz: Why!? Can’t they poor guy have someone he’s close to NOT betray him. Ugh this is going to hurt SO BAD. Something that has really jumped out at me was with the base lock down. This was now the second time this season that Fitz had to go low tech/old school to win the fight. He went low tech in Uprising and again tonight in that he and Jemma came up with the new low tech way to protect the system. This is worth noting considering how high tech our baddies (the Superior and Radcliffe) are. We’re going to see Fitz dealing with the guilt about AIDA and her killing Nathansen and attacking the base. Good news its we actually see him back in the lab with Jemma next week too so yay for that! Radcliffe does care about him and now that’s more of a red flag than ever. Red flag 2....Fitz noticed there was a difference in AIDA...he might have seen 1.0 and 2.0 and just doesn’t realize it yet. I do think Fitz will continue to keep an eye on Radcliffe after such a huge ‘loss’ before he finds out the truth.
AIDA: Well I got the LMD of the LMD thing. Very much a Data/Lore kind of thing. So AIDA 1.0 is gone AIDA 2.0 is scary and very much allied with Radcliffe. I was also right that Shield is now unaware AIDA 2.0 is out there and think that the threat has been eliminated for now.
Nadeer: Well we knew she was awful...but wow...anyone else get the Buddy vibes again? Clearly she’s going to come after Shield hates Inhumans. But also she was not a fan of Shield. I’m going with she blames them for one or both of her parents deaths and who knows what else. She isn’t our big bad, merely a puppet, someone is using her hate and pain for their own gain. The big bad is The Superior AKA The Mysterious Benefactor AKA see my post on that. Her next move will be to bring Talbot in which is going to be all sorts of fun.
Vijay Nadeer: Will most definitely be back. I need to head back into the comics to see just who he could be. His initial powers were of the speedster variety but we don’t know what he’ll be when he emerges again. Grid is still on the table but I want to look at Inhumans that have going through Terragenisis twice. There aren’t many and we’ve had our eyes on that since Hive/Lash (if I remember right in the comics Lash had undergone 2 transformations). So I will have a meta to follow, I just don’t have time to do that kind of research tonight. Jemma’s compassion and attempts to save him will still be a factor when this goes all sorts of bad down the line.
Radcliffe: SON OF A -------! I did NOT want it to go that way. Guess we know why he’s been growing out the patented AOS bad guy beard...because he is the BAD GUY! I said we’d have to wait and see how much he knew about the Robo May to determine where he was going and boy...he was behind it ALL. He took quite a turn into his evil comic book counterparts wheelhouse tonight. His transhumanist goals like digital immortality is still very much in play. When Radcliffe said that AIDA was after the Darkhold so that she could live he was also speaking for himself. The book shows the reader what they want to see...Radcliffe wants to transcend the physical limitations of the body. Now he’s simply going to bide his time until he can make a play for the Darkhold again. Coulson being one of his biggest obstacles in that. And while he does care for Fitz...he cares about himself more. On re watch he tried to stop Fitz from stopping AIDA multiple times. And a side note with Coulson...I almost feel this is personal for Radcliffe here, like what he is doing with Robo May is going to hurt when its revealed and that line about we all get what we want. Its just not sitting right so I’m keeping my eye on it.
And kudos to Hannah...who went from quirky uncle to mad scientist at the drop of a hat there.
Misc Items:
Patriot Theory looks really good for Mace! That he’s not Inhuman and needs continued assistance to maintain his powers.
Mace and Coulson will learn the truth when they get trapped in teh middle of no where with him and he is due for another dose.
Talbot, from that little snippet, seems to be onto him and is going to have Fitzsimmons help him figure it out.
The Superior is our Big Bad....I have my list and now we have to put Radcliffe on it.
I don’t think he is but Radcliffe has been playing a long game so we need to put him on there.
We’ll have to wait and see if Radcliffe has been bad all along or if the Darkhold put him over the edge. We said it would be bad for him to get access to the book and even that brief glimpse was enough to show him what he wanted (eternal life).
The compassion that both Jemma and Fitz showed to AIDA and VIjay respectively will still come into play. In this case both failed. Vijay ran away/was killed and AIDA 1.0 was dead.
I don’t think we’ll see Fitz over at Radcliffe’s as much since Radcliffe is stashing May and now AIDA 2.0 there.
It definitely wasn’t an accident that AIDA showed up when she did in 4.01.
Dadcliffe..surrogate or bio (bio looking less likely now) are still in play...only now its going to be so awful. Now when we see Radcliffe working with him and the team we know what is lurking, what he’s done, and some of what he wants to do. The closer Fitz gets to Radcliffe the worse the fallout will be. While Fitz has been betrayed by those close to him before...he’s hasn’t been used to this degree before. Donnie tricked him into helping him in Seeds and this is that on steroids.
Nadeer/Watchdogs/Mace are going to get the build of the focus before whatever Radcliffe is up too hits full force towards the end of the arc.
I think we are through the worst of Fitzsimmons being apart. I mean they were in the promo together more than they were the episode...so we are already seeing improvement. They will still have separate stories and missions but now ites dangerous for Radcliffe to risk having Fitz around his house too much.
Remember the ships that are getting a lot of attention have something not so fun coming.
Okay that is what I’ve got for now. I’m sure I’ve missed a few things and will pick them up in asks and metas as the week progresses. For those that like to see the Kiddo reactions I’ll post that tomorrow after they watch...my Dadcliffe lover is going to be devastated.

Agreed. If you look at it another way… Jane is mentally ill right now. I mean, yes, she’s Remi, and we know and understand how dangerous Remi is. But she’s also Jane, who is sick, possibly terminally. And that’s going to color any interaction Kurt has with her. He is never going to be able to look at her and only see Remi. Yes, I could see him arresting her at some point, but that would be more from a desire to keep her safe and out of trouble, rather than because he views her as an enemy. I could see him defending himself, if Remi were to attack him in a bid for freedom, but I could never see him actually trying to defeat her or risk harming her.
I love the Star Wars analogy, lol. ::raises nerd sign:: Because, yes, Jane is still inside of Remi, and Kurt isn’t ever going to be able to stop trying to find her in there.
I also don’t expect this memory loss to be like her initial ZIP, neither as complete nor absolute. This was caused by a crossed wire in her brain, so there will probably be other short circuits that will come and go, bringing bits of Jane back to her. (Although, hey, the writers made up ZIP and they made up this illness, so they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want with it. I’m sure Jane will be back to fighting form and driving by the end of 4.01, which seems a bad idea for a person with an medical condition that causes unexpected fainting, lol.) I can see Remi being confused a lot by these conflicting ideas in her head. And in her typical fashion, she will make a decision about what she thinks is right and go charging off in that direction. So there will be rather a lot of fallout that she (and Kurt) will have to deal with when the dust settles.
I do expect that there will be another separation at some point (either bc Jane leaves or gets locked up), and I also think at some point she will want her Jane life back but will think that she’s ruined it / doesn’t deserve it or something and will try to push Kurt away (this show loves its pining heart eyes, lol). But that won’t work because of all of the above.
Damn, am I looking forward to this wild ride!!
this is interesting so you DONT think kurt and remi will be like battling it out? you don't see kurt trying to be like stoic around remi, you think he'll actually try to love her even knowing she's dangerous and technically the enemy?
I think he’s going to “fight” Remi with LOVE. This is super sappy, but really, yes, he’s going to use the power of love.
I don’t want to say this like I think this is what’s going to happen, it’s totally just my opinion, so I could be drastically wrong!
But I think once Kurt figures out she’s Remi, and then probably clues in to whatever side missions she’s up to (possibly even breaking out Shepherd), he’s ABSOLUTELY going to be on the alert. Our boy is a smart guy, he’s going to be cautious, but I don’t see the two of them being on opposite sides. Remi will be, of course. Remi will see Kurt as her enemy, but Kurt won’t. I think if Kurt were to take the stance of, “I love my wife, but you’re not my wife” and change anything about the way he acts towards her, he’ll see himself as being less likely to win her back. It’d kind of be like Season 2 a little, all over again, and we’ve come so far since then. He knows he can’t trust Remi, but it doesn’t mean he can’t LOVE HER, if that makes sense.
If you are a nerd like me and you like Star Wars, think about this: one of the compelling plotlines of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was the question of whether or not Luke would be able to turn his father away from the Dark Side. The question there was, “Is love and light strong enough to defeat the dark?” Luke knew the odds, he knew the stakes, he knew Vader was hella dangerous, but he wasn’t going to give up on believing there was still good left in him. Vader at first thought it was pointless and pathetic, he even nearly killed his own son, but Luke got through to him in the end. Of course, that had a tragic end, and that won’t be the case with Blindspot, but it makes for an AMAZING redemption arc if you have that one person never giving up on the other, even if they’re brainwashed and filled with anger/hate.
But what I’m getting at is, it would be just too predictable if it’s Kurt vs. Remi on both sides. But if you have Remi against Kurt, and Kurt LOVING Remi the whole time? Well, then you’ve got something truly compelling. You’ve got this amazing guy loving his wife no matter what, even knowing the inherent dangers and risks involved because she’s a wildcard now.
But love can do anything, folks. If Kurt doesn’t change anything at all about the way he loves his wife (whether she’s Remi or Jane), that’s going to be the key to these two halves of Jane becoming whole, eventually.
Kurt is going to love Remi back to the light. :’)

top 10 merlin episodes a list by me
2.08 The Sins of the Father - this is the pinnacle of this whole entire show. this episode changed me as a human person. i went from “arthur sucks” to “WE STAN” so fast i got whiplash. watching arthur snap and try to kill his own father once he FINALLY understood who uther really was made me love him forever. here’s a whole-ass post i made about this episode & here’s a nice little screencap set that i love
5.03 The Death Song of Uther Pendragon - if there is anything on god’s green earth as excellent as watching arthur try to kill his father it’s watching his father try to kill HIM, first with criticism, and then literally. screamed thru this entire episode especially when merlin DID THAT! daddy issues literally haunting poor arthur...what more could u ask for?? here’s a whole-ass post for this one too
4.10 A Herald of the New Age - we got to see SO MUCH DEPTH from my boy arthur here...we got to tackle the true fallout of the crimes the pendragon monarchy has committed...this episode got very “fullmetal alchemist” near the end (tackling war & genocide) & i’m into it. wouldn’t you know it, there’s a post for this one too
5.12/5.13 The Diamond of the Day - i have mixed feelings about season 5 and the finale overall but there’s no way i can’t include this when arthur and merlin finally got to have an honest conversation. bonus: that shit with merlin being magic itself really almost made me lose it. yes, there is a post - there is also a second post
4.12/4.13 The Sword in the Stone - not ONLY am i a total nerd for sword-in-stone imagery but this episode also contains merlin DOING THAT!! every time he gets to be a badass my heart soars. two posts for this one too. i actually didn’t like the first half of this two-partner as much because of the Very Creepy Spell but yk whatever whatever
2.13 The Last Dragonlord - each and every thing involving arthur’s mom or merlin’s dad mcmurders me dead. i almost wept during this episode. i don’t have a post for it but that’s because i don’t think i can ever watch it again. merlin having to pretend he wasn’t crying when he was crying ENDED me - it’s so unfair he can help arthur bear his pain but not the other way around. HE DESERVES TO GO THROUGH THE ORDEAL OF BEING KNOWN TOO :(
4.01/4.02 The Darkest Hour - arthur and merlin spend this entire episode 1. scared shitless 2. ADMITTING WITH NO IRONY THAT THEY ARE SCARED SHITLESS 3. trying to die for one another 4. shit talking one another to keep their morale up. in addition i think these episodes had the scariest motw in the entire series, PLUS i am always grateful for an uptick in lancehot content. good all the way around. yes there’s a post
3.11 The Sorcerer's Shadow - it’s so funny that right before i watched this one (like LITERALLY the night before) i was complaining about merlin as a character, how i didn’t understand his motives, why he would repeatedly risk his own life to save someone like uther, and then the very next day i was given this. i have a few mixed feelings about the execution of it but overall this episode was the mini-version of merlin’s “arthur trying to kill his own dad” moment for me...i felt like for the first time i really understood who he was through and through. there is a very long post for this one
1.04 The Poisoned Chalice - i don’t have a post for this one but like what else can POSSIBLY be said about this episode...i said once “if you’re interested in merlin try the first four eps” because this is where it gets good. FOUR EPISODES IN and they’re ready to die for each other...this is also the first time arthur stands up to his father and does something selfless...the first time he sees magic used for good...it’s where we start to get to know who he really is without uther’s influence, what kind of show this is going to be, what we can expect from the antagonists (especially uther), and it even hints at the larger mystery surrounding the history of what started the purge and why uther hates magic and nimueh in particular SO much...this episode is SO IMPORTANT and actually it was being told the basic plot of this episode that swayed me into giving merlin a go to begin with so without this episode? i would not be writing this post.
4.06 A Servant of Two Masters - while i would have rather seen this concept (brainwashed merlin tries to assassinate arthur) played for high drama instead of hijinks (what can i say, i have a weakness for brainwashed assassins...), the hijinks were PRETTY GOOD and the parts that WERE dramatic were also quite good AND it was merlin and arthur’s FIRST AND ONLY HUG. there’s really nothing not to love. i do have a post about this one too
HONORABLE MENTIONS INCLUDE: 1.10 (arthur going back to ealdor to defend it from bandits and feeling human empathy), 1.11 (arthur learning humility via murdering a unicorn and also nearly dying for merlin), 3.04 (introduction of gwaine), 3.12/3.13 (gwaine content, ROUND TABLE KNIGHTS ASSEMBLE), 4.03 (uther’s death AT LAST oh babey), 5.01/5.02 (arthur spends the entirety of two episodes running around in the snow looking nice and having an absolute BLAST on his suicide mission to rescue his captured/enslaved men)
#personal#merlin blogging#liz's meta#liz's merlin stuff#my fever broke for a little while so i got up to eat cereal and type this post#im going back 2 bed#i'll have you know it took me DAYS to make this list. like a single day#trying to weed them out was like picking children#my initial list started at like...17 or 18 so almost half got the cut#it was agonizing#1.10 and 3.13 really are some of my favorites.#liz makes stuff
