Tory vice-chair Lee Anderson says anti-monarchists should leave UK
Contentious MP reacts to arrest of coronation protesters by telling British republicans to emigrate
Daniel Boffey Chief reporter, Sat 6 May 2023 17.21 BST
The Conservative party’s deputy chair, Lee Anderson, has said that anti-monarchist campaigners should emigrate rather than use their right to free speech to protest against the coronation of Charles III.
The comments followed the arrest of a number of demonstrators at the king’s coronation, including Graham Smith, the chief executive of the country’s largest republican pressure group, Republic, which was formed in 1983.
He tweeted: “Not My King? If you do not wish to live in a country that has a monarchy the solution is not to turn up with your silly boards. The solution is to emigrate.”

Supreme Court rules Rwanda asylum policy unlawful
The government's Rwanda asylum policy, which it says is needed to tackle small boats, is in disarray, after the UK's highest court ruled it is unlawful. The Supreme Court upheld a Court of Appeal ruling, which said the policy leaves people sent to Rwanda open to human rights breaches. It means the policy cannot be implemented in its current form. Rishi Sunak signalled he is not willing to give up on the plan, and has set out measures he says will revive it. The controversial plan to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda and ban them from returning to the UK has been subject to legal challenges since it was first announced by Boris Johnson in April 2022. The government has already spent £140m on the scheme but flights were prevented from taking off in June last year after the Court of Appeal ruled the approach was unlawful due to a lack of human rights safeguards. Now that the UK's most senior court has agreed, the policy's chances of being realised without major revisions are effectively ended. But Mr Sunak told MPs at Prime Minister's Questions that he was ready to finalise a formal treaty with Rwanda and would be "prepared to revisit our domestic legal frameworks" in a bid to revive the plan. A treaty - which Downing Street has said it will publish in the "coming days" - would upgrade the agreement between the UK and Rwanda from its current status as a "memorandum of understanding", which the government believes would put the arrangement on a stronger legal footing. A Lovely 30p Surprise.
I spent a day down in the Forest of Dean today, it was billed as a walk and talk, with lunch we learnt when we got there. Its kind of the grown up version of sitting under the tree at school in the summer term and having a lesson on the grass in the shade. The aim I think is to look after our own mental health in these times of political and global crisis and since January my new boss, whom I…

The evil has been defeated, for now. Good work everybody. Some disorganised election thoughts below
The tories won more seats than I had hoped but still, a massive loss, and it may yet get worse for them. So many big names lost. Goodbye Truss. Goodbye Moggie. Badenoch may still be in trouble because a lot of postal votes weren't delivered in her constiuency, so her result will probably get voided lmao
The Lib Dems did exceptionally well. 71 seats! A brilliant result for them, great voter efficiency
Reform came second in a lot of constituencies, especially at the beginning of the night, but they at least didn't get their 13. They have got 4 now though, which is 4 too many in my view. Farage in Clacton, 30p Lee in Ashfield, Tice in Boston, and what's-his-face in Great Yarmouth
The greens got 4 seats which they'll be delighted about . They and reform are now the same sized party. Guess which one the mainstream media will pay attention to
A big shake up in Northern Ireland. Sinn fein are the largest party techically, but not in practice since they don't take up their seats in westminster. Also appearances from Alliance, the UUP, SDLP, and the TUV, the DUP probably aren't too pleased right now
Plaid got 4 seats, and the tories have been banished from wales. Fuck yes
The snp got fucking trounced. Unfortunate, I quite liked them, but they'll probably bounce back
Lindsay hoyle the speaker keeps his seat, surprise surprise
Corbyn keeps his seat by a lot. If labour really wanted it that badly they should've put up a better candidate
A few other independents came in, scalping one or two from labour
Okay, now lets talk about the winners. Labour didn't win as big as I had hoped (not wedded to labour, just wanted to see the tories lose more). Congratulations to kier starmer. Despite the not so good shit that labour had said, and the shouting from some on the left, which I understand, I wish that he was more left wing right now too, he will certainly do a better job than the tories, and just because I gave labour the benefit of the doubt, doesnt mean that I'm not intending rn to criticise them if they do not deliver. They have a lot of work to do on so many fronts. Trans rights, gaza, workers rights, electoral reform etc. Keep pushing them to do better

Local shitheel Tory MP in the news again. Lee, it’s not the gotcha you think it is that your staffer has to live like a student forever and a third of her salary is burnt up on living within commuting distance of a job working for one of the biggest arseholes in parliament:

Thess vs Late-Night Election Results
Welp, still not 100% sure how I feel about any of this.
So far, Labour is beating the Tories into the ground. The SNP is also taking some losses to Labour, which is ... well, I feel bad for the Scots if that trend continues, because it'd throw their independence referendum idea out a window. The Greens have picked up nothing so far. But the absolute worst of it is this:
Reform UK already has two constituencies. These are held by:
Lee "30p Lee" Anderson
Nigel Farage
I DO NOT WANT EITHER OF THESE HORRIBLE MEN IN THE COMMONS, THANKYOUVERYMUCH.
My constituency hasn't been called yet. Not sure whether to stay awake until it is or just give up and find out the good / bad / mediocre news all in one clump in the morning.
Probably the latter. The former is just exhausting to no good purpose.
(Minor edit: is it wrong that I really, really hope that Rishi Sunak loses his seat in the Commons? Specifically to Count Binface? I want it to happen so much...)
(Further minor edit: I would also take Rishi Sunak losing his seat to the Monster Raving Loony Party.)

Actually, our opposition party's election policy is a refusal to engage in what they very accurately describe as an attempt to stoke division and fear against a vulnerable group in order to win votes that the Tories can't get through competence. The Conservative Party wants to make trans rights a battleground in the election, with all the vicious, petty attacks and shifting of the Overton Window that will entail. Labour's refusal to stand up is disappointing, but we don't actually want a repeat of the days when Section 28 or gay marriage were the electoral talking points and the news was filled with people saying how awful gay people are.
All the Tories have is attacks, and they know it. 30p Lee has said himself that they plan to run the election on "A mix of culture wars and trans debate". And they don't care how many people get hurt in the process of their desperate, futile attempts to save the party from the annals of history.
guys why the fuck aren't we talking about what's happening in the uk right now
nobody outside the uk is talking about this. why is nobody talking about it
