Have you ever wondered about the inner workings of ball valves? This article delves into the concept of ball valves and explores their various construction types.
Introduction to Ball Valves:
Valves are available in a myriad of types and sizes, serving as devices that can be opened or closed to control the flow of liquids or gases. A common household example is the kitchen faucet. In this article, we focus on a specific type – the ball valve.
What is a Ball Valve?
A ball valve is a quarter-turn valve employing a pivoting ball with a drilled-through hole to manage the flow. When aligned with the flow direction, it permits the passage of fluids or gases. Conversely, a 90-degree turn stops the flow completely. The valve's status is indicated by the handle: parallel means open, perpendicular means closed.
Key Features of Ball Valves:
Ball valves are robust and ideal for applications requiring a simple on/off action. They maintain durability and consistent performance over numerous cycles, offering reliability even after prolonged periods of disuse. Flow rate can be controlled by partially opening or closing the valve. Despite their advantages, ball valves lack the fine control for throttling applications that other valves provide.

I cannot deal with one more Benophie fan complaining about the lack of Benedict's artistic side in s3.
Aren't you guys supposed to like this character and understand him?
Everyone complains about the show's lack of accountability, continuity, and consequences. But here it is Benedict's artistic plot going through ups and downs for 3 seasons and fans complain!
That was one of my main wishes for s3: NO ART FOR BENEDICT. It had to be this way.
Benedict thought he had entered the Academy by himself, for his talent. He was so happy to have received external validation and Anthony's interference destroyed that. He destroyed his confidence. Of course, he abandoned art. He felt like a fraud.
If Benedict had resumed painting in s3, this scene would have lost meaning and weight:
What would have been the point of this dramatic moment if he would have been fine next season?
In the book, part of Benedict's arc is growing confident in his art. He has been hiding his talent forever (even more than in the show) because he's afraid and Sophie helps him realize he's an artist. The show found a way to show his art since s1, and still follow the book.
This was not the final season, we still have to see HIS season where all of this needs to be resolved. His season is when he needs to regain confidence and share his art with everyone again, thanks to Sophie.
Yes, it was sad to see Benedict holding a newspaper instead of a sketchbook, BUT IT WAS NECESSARY FOR HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!!!
That brief exchange with Paul said everything the audience needed to know about his art in s3:
Paul asks him if he paints (Paul was being a bit of a jerk here, too judgemental just because Ben is part of the ton, but I get it)
How heartbreaking this was!
He couldn't have said 'yes' even if he talked in past tense because Paul would have asked more. 'Why did you give it up?' And what was he supposed to say: 'My brother paid my way into the Academy'? Of course, he said no. The writers did not forget about s1 and s2, they simply were writing a coherent storyline. Benedict's still not over the betrayal and hurt he felt at the end of s2.
In the meantime, Ben has been filling the hole art left in his heart with work during Anthony's honeymoon. Once that is gone, Ben becomes a jerk (I've talked about this in this post after seeing part 1: x) He's extra grumpy and out-of-character but it makes sense narratively because he's frustrated.
It only gets better when he meets Tilley. She is a temporary solution to his frustration. Once he began his affair with her, he went back to his normal, charming self at balls. This is what he does, what he did for 3 seasons. Sex is like a palliative treatment for whatever turmoil he has inside (see how amazingly appropriate this is for Benophie?)
Moreover, Benedict's sexuality needed to be addressed BEFORE his season. Or would you have preferred to do it while Sophie was there?
Thanks to CVD, who refused to address this matter in s2, Jess had to do it in s3. Honestly, Jess did a lot of fixing this season.
This way Benedict is at peace with that part of himself that had been causing so much anxiety since he met Granville. Not only did Tilley offer a momentary escape valve for his frustration, but she helped him accept a part of his identity AND encouraged him to find love. Honestly, the hate she gets from the Benophie fandom is shameful. She did nothing wrong and only helped and supported Benedict. (Plus Luke Thompson loved those scenes, so 🤷♀️)
I shouldn't get so upset about other people's opinions, but honestly. These comments come from people who declare to be stans and queens of the fandom. They also have been in a 2-year tantrum and hate campaign against s3, so not really surprised.
It's so funny because if there's one character that has been written exquisitely, it's Benedict. He's the writers' favorite, 100%. Everything he has done makes total sense and prepares him for Sophie.

Im here to beg for some synth-en megaratch because i dont havr any meaning in life besides stalking your blog <3
hgrhhh you are leaving me an open stage, i don’t know where to start… okay. The synth-en not only increasing both bloodlust and arousal, but mixing them together, which means that when Ratchet gets to Megatron he is, number one, filled with unbridled fury, number two, extremely horny after all the vehicons he knocked down on his way, and number three… Megatron can tell.
But you know, not a lot of people have the balls to just dominate Megatron himself like he’s just some piece of metal found on the street. So obviously, while Megatron is stronger than Ratchet, he lets him pin him down anyways, curious to see what the medic, seemingly unaware of the charge basically dancing across his plating, will do now. Spoiler: he doesn’t kill him. He fucks him. What a surprise.
mhmmm Megatron is so big that his valve doesn’t need to be prepared, all Ratchet has to do is shove his spike in and start pounding into him with more strength than he really should have in him, at any point. Megatron gasping in surprise, inner nodes assaulted carelessly, with no concern for whether he might try and point his fusion cannon at Ratchet’s head, or beat the shit out of him if Ratchet does something wrong, no, the autobot didn’t care about any consequences at the moment and Megatron enjoyed it tremendously. Maybe Ratchet degrades Megatron a little. Or a lot. Calls him all the things he’d normally call him, a monster, a maniac, an evil bastard, but this time he whispers it through grit denta as he nears his overload, each squeeze and punch and scratch delivered to Megatron’s plating that leaves a visible mark making him so much hornier.
hghhhh Ratchet’s transfluid being filtered out synthetic energon which means that everytime he overloads into Megatron, he gets him a little bit more high off the synth-en as well. By the time they’re found, Megatron is twitching and moaning through his Nth overload in the past half hour and Ratchet is still digging into him without breaking a beat in his pace, except to cum, but he recovers quickly and keeps going. I think Ratchet’s the one to tell Optimus to get the fuck out of here, this is between him and Megatron now.
#my ideal tfp megaratch dynamic is ’’guy with a degradation kink x guy who just hates him#and also ratchet telling optimus ’’fine. i’ll fuck him. since you’re so fucking complicated#this is kind of long but i have to deliver. you shall remain here to stalk my blog forever#valveplug#dubcon#not even bc of megs getting pinned down i just think the synth-en is messing with ratchet’s head a lil#megaratch#text

Session 2 Recap: Part 2/3
Chuck joined Prometheus in the next car. Geraldine and Dolly made their way out, but ran out of movement just before making it to safety, which left them trapped with the three ghouls that were near enough to dash into melee distance with them. In a moment of quick thinking, Dolly dumped an entire bag of ball bearings onto the ground just before making her escape, coating the floor except for a thin path Geraldine could use to slip away. The ghouls swung on Dolly, but between her quick movement and their unstable ground they were unable to land any attacks. Geraldine fired another explosive round, knocking one ghoul out of range of her and slipping into the dining car with the rest of the party.
The party had only seconds to recover as Mac slammed the door shut. The space between cars began to flood with ghouls, and the few that weren’t busy tripping on ball bearings managed to claw into the door and attempt to pry it open. Mac resisted, which led to 3 roll offs as they matched the same result on an athletic check twice (once being a crit on both sides). The ghouls clawed furiously at the door, and Mac practically burnt out his circuts resisting them. Eventually, he managed to force the door closed hard enough that only a few clawed fingers made it inside the car, though he had to continue to hold on tight to keep it that way.
As everyone took a moment to recover from terror and wounds (except for Geraldine, who was quietly elated), Prometheus caught the party up on what he had discovered. Everyone searched for an additional emergency lever, which Dolly spotted behind a shelf of alcohol. She squeezed herself behind the shelf and activated the lever, which revealed the second step in the convoluted evacuation process. A computer sparked to life on the wall, which Chuck wasted no time cracking into and ordering to make an emergency launch. Two valves began to glow at the back of a car (labeled “wing deployment”), and a steering mechanism emerged from the ground beneath the bar.
As the party realized what they needed to do, two ghouls burst into the car through the windows (which were quickly covered by emergency blast doors). Though the door was secured, the ghouls that were somehow managing to crawl along the outside of the interstellar train were preparing to breach. One cornered Dolly, and one intercepted Chuck as he sprinted towards the steering mechanism. Dolly struck down the ghoul in front of her, and ran forward to help prepare the car to detach. Prometheus sprinted forward in this moment, letting his glasses fall away as he whispered incomprehensible things at the ghoul attacking Chuck. Dolly, perceptive as she is, noticed immediately how strange her current company was: Prometheus with his deep red sclera, lack of iris, and barely visible black pupil. Chuck bleeding orange and holding a sword in the third arm he apparently possessed. Geraldine beamed with contentment as she and Chuck’s floating disk sprinted forward to deploy the wings. They were odd company, and she had many questions, but they could wait. For now, she was grateful that they could get her out alive.
The party managed to strike down the last of the ghouls in combat range and flee before any more could breach. The dining car had been fully converted into an independent cargo ship, and Chuck piloted them away from the crumbling train. They got one last glimpse of ghouls, ghosts, and the thing that had been tearing apart the train cars from underneath them: a massive, ethereal maw with fangs as large as ribs and a tongue made of ghostly arms. Finally, they had an actual moment to sit and process what was happening as they made haste towards the nearest habitable planet.

List of games I've played through since getting my steam deck;
Will be adding games as I play them, along with thoughts about the steam deck. I rly love my deck a lot, it's so fuckin nice being able to play whatever and having the frame rate be rly solid. So far I haven't encountered a single stutter or frame drop.
-
Sonic Frontiers, steam - honestly? Frontiers kinda sucks balls. It's fun for mindless running but doing anything with precision is frustrating. The story sucks, the VA direction sucks, the progression feels so weird and sloppy I don't like it at all. The actual overworld feels sloppy and disjointed and everything clashes badly. The soundtrack isn't even that good. 4/10
Helltaker, steam - puzzle game, short and sweet and pretty good. The ending level is kinda bullshit so I had to bs my way through it. 7.5/10, points deducted for being so short and only having one correct solution for most levels. (I prefer puzzle games that offer multiple solutions, just personal preference)
Super Monkey Ball 2, emustation - God I fucking love monkey ball. Ended up having to give up at the end of world 8 cuz it's so ass numbingly hard and I wasn't haven't fun anymore. 8/10
Bust-a-move, SNES emustation - I didn't realize how fucking hard this game is??? I really wish there was a modern version of the game with quality of life updates but afaik there's just 1, 2 and 3, with 2 and 3 being on steam and honestly rly ugly. Wish there was more to the game but the endless mode is fun at least. 6.5/10
Desk Job, steam - a valve interactive to get you used to the steam deck controls. It's short and cute, does a good job showing off everything you need to know about the deck and got a lil chuckle out of me. 8/10
Animal Crossing (gamecube), emustation - Got a town set up and played a couple days. Since I can't change the deck time I can't time travel so that's a bummer, but it's nice getting to play the OG game on the go! Love it so much. 9/10

[ Image description: photograph of a device on a hotel breakfast counter. The device is holding a single Langstroth (I think?) frame of honeycomb in an upright position within a glass frame. There is a spout with a wood-handled ball valve in front, and a bowl underneath the spout to capture drips, which is partially filled with golden honey. The frame has no foundation installed, and the comb itself is dark brown and only partially uncapped. A small attached sign reads “Miel - honey”. End ID. ]
I am in Costa Rica on a student tour. In our hotel, there is this thing: I am pretty sure this is a honey subscription service with the Linda Vista Farm (and Apiary, obviously).
Costa Roca is very much into sustainability and eco-tourism, and it shows: to me, this display is perfect, and captures so much information about it in one compact package:
1) The lack of foundation: I think there are wires in their for support, but these bees are not being encouraged to build on foundation. They can do their own thing; imo this is good. Plus, the support that a beekeeper might need to provide if they’re going to extract the honey by spinning the frames is not needed here. You can see the beeways that the bees have built for themselves to transit between combs, which is neat.
2) The color of the wax: fresh wax is light gold in color, so this dark brown wax is old. These frames are being reused, which totally makes sense for a subscription service for this dispenser, and if that’s what they’re doing, I suspect that you just turn in an empty frame for a full one (or maybe you get a whole hive body of 10 frames). The benefit of this for the bees is that they don’t have to rebuild the frames (making wax is metabolically expensive). Cons, though, could be that diseases might be transmitted this way, especially if the frame goes into a different colony’s hive.
3) Most of the cells were uncapped. I think that the hotel staff uncaps sections of the comb as needed, rather than the whole thing at once, which I think would flood the device.
It’s just absolutely brilliant; I cannot stop thinking about it.
If you’re a beekeeper, especially if you’re from Costa Rica and/or know more about La Granja Linda Vista, please reblog and add your thoughts!

My name is Alex, I live with my friends, Damien, Blade, and Aaliyah.
Blade and Aaliyah just came from a domestic abuse situation several states away, and so in order to help them out of that situation, we opened our house up to them. In their previous home, they were having to deal with transphobia, forced food scarcity, emotional manipulation and gaslighting, and so much more. They even called aaliyah, while knowing she was struggling with her mental health, a "burden." On top of that, the people they were staying with were going to move without them, having given very little warning to Blade and Aaliyah who had very little contacts and resources. If we did not act fast, they would be facing the prospect of homelessness, something Damien and I are all too familiar with. We gave them some money for food and funded their uhaul over here, putting our paychecks towards helping them. As you can imagine though, that put quite a strain on our already tenuous finances. We had to spend a lot of money making sure everything went smoothly. Blade and Aaliyah did arrive safely though, and are working on settling in and providing for the household in ways that they are able to.
On top of that, Damien is also preparing for surgery and has had a few medical issues recently. He was diagnosed with EDS which is a degenerative disease, a birth defect that causes his pulmonary valve to not close properly, as well as FAI and a Labral tear. The FAI and labral tear means that his hips are malformed and have caused the "padding" tissue to deteriorate. The ball and socket of his joint, now that the padding is essentially completely gone, has been grinding against each other, causing the bone itself to start deteriorate, for the past 3 years. This is what's been causing him so much pain, so much so that after most shifts at his job he can just barely walk. It's a miracle he even can in the first place compared to other cases that are just as bad as his. He is working on getting on disability but of course it's been hard, so, we have had to spend quite a lot of money on medical supplies and lose a lot of money on him missing work. Combine that with my hours lowering due to my job decreasing opening times and we were having to pull out of our credit cards a lot. His credit card is maxed out at about $1,5000, mine are maxed at about $500 and $5,000. I also pulled out a loan for us at $2,000. We still have rent ($1420 including pet fees) and bills to pay so we're struggling with playing all that catch-up. We haven't even begun preparing for Damien's surgery financially. It would really mean a lot if we could get some help!! Any money received from this fundraiser will go to the debt, bills, and keeping food on the table while we recover.

brass vs stainless steel
Brass ball valves, like all ball valves, control fluid flow by rotating a bored spherical ball to block or open the fluid path. They are available in 2- 3- or 4-way designs and have a variety of end connections. The primary components of brass vs stainless steel are copper and zinc. The ratio of these vary depending on the desired mechanical properties, and additional elements such as tin, iron and lead are sometimes added to further improve certain properties. Of these additional elements, lead is the most common additive as it improves machine-ability. Lead has a lower melting point than zinc, so it is the last element in the alloy to solidify. It therefore squeezes into casting pores where it acts as a sealing agent and aids in machining by acting as a microscopic chip breaker and tool lubricant.
