Teen Discovers 1800-Year-Old Ring Engraved with Goddess Athena on Mount Carmel

The artifact was examined with the assistance of Prof. Shua Amorai-Stark, an expert on ancient rings and amulets from the Kaye Academic College.

A Haifa teenager recently discovered an ancient engraved ring while hiking on Mount Carmel in northern Israel, according to the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). The ring, which is engraved with the image of Athena, the Greek goddess of war, has been handed over to the IAA and is set to be displayed in Jerusalem.

This July, 13-year-old Yair Whiteson's discovery will be displayed at the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel in Jerusalem.

The teen's interest in fossils and rocks helped lead to this shocking discovery. When he made the discovery, Whiteson was hiking near the ancient quarry site below Khirbet Shalala with his father, who had recently returned from four months of army reserve duty. The teen noticed a small green object, initially mistaken for a rusty bolt. After closer inspection, he realized it was a corroded ring with an engraved image.

“At first glance, I thought it was a warrior,” Yair said.

The family contacted Nir Distelfeld, an inspector at the IAA’s Theft Prevention Unit, who quickly arranged for the object to be transferred to the National Treasures Department. The artifact was then examined with the assistance of Prof. Shua Amorai-Stark, an expert on ancient rings and amulets from the Kaye Academic College.

“On this beautifully preserved ring is the image of a helmeted naked figure holding a shield in one hand and a spear in the other,” explained Distelfeld and Dr. Eitan Klein from the IAA's Unit for the Prevention of Antiquities Robbery.

“Yair's identification of the figure as a warrior was close; it is likely the goddess Minerva from Roman mythology, known as Athena in Greek mythology. This goddess, popular during the Roman period in the Land of Israel, was considered the goddess of war and military strategy, as well as wisdom.”

Anicent archaeological discovery made by young teen

The bronze ring dates back to the 2nd-3rd Century CE - the Late Roman Period. It was believed to have belonged to a female, possibly a farmstead resident, a quarry worker, or even as a burial offering in a nearby cave.

Khirbet Shalala, the archaeological site near the discovery, is situated on a hilltop in the Carmel Mountains, surrounded by Nahal Oren and near the perennial water source Ein Alon. Various archaeologists have explored the site, including 19th-century Palestine Exploration Fund surveyor Prof. Ruth Miran and a Bar-Ilan University expedition led by Prof. Shimon Dar.

Visitors to the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel can revel in ancient history through IAA tours throughout the summer.

Yandere Nishinoya Yuu x reader

(This takes place when Noya is in 3rd year)

You were, honestly speaking, extremely nervous to start high school. Especially when it was such a well-known school after the boys volleyball team made it to the nationals last year. You would’ve preferred a private school but Karasuno was the closest high school to your house.

You were supposed to meet a 3rd year for a school tour after school. The idea was each 1st year would get an individual tour led by a 3rd or possibly 2nd year.

“L/N Y/N?!” a loud and cheerful voice asked.

You lowered the piece of paper you were reading that explained the your system. A short boy with a strip of blonde hair was staring at you.

“That’s me,” you said timidly.

The boy beamed, “I’m Nishinoya Yuu! You can call me Noya though. I’ll be giving you a tour!”

You nodded.

This boy had to be a 2nd year, right? But while taking the tour he told you that he was a 3rd year. You had politely nodded even though you were surprised.

After the tour, Nishinoya stopped in front of the gym doors.

“I have volleyball practice. You can watch if you want, Y/N-chan!” Nishinoya told you.

“You guys went to the nationals last year, right?” you asked, “If you really don’t mind, I’d love to see your national level skills, Noya-senpai!”

Nishinoya’s eyes widened in joy when you called him “Noya-senpai”. It was that very moment that he fell. He fell in love with you.

Now you were trapped. Trapped in his house. It’d been over a year that Nishinoya had kept you imprisoned in his bedroom.

“Y/N-chan!” a familiarly sickening voice called, “I’m home! I’ve missed you.”

You kept quiet.

He walked over to where you were tied to a chair beside his bed. He started untying the knots to free your wrists.

“Let’s cuddle, Y/N-chan!” Nishinoya suggested.

You reluctantly climbed onto the bed beside him. Nishinoya immediately strangled you with a hug and plastered kisses literally everywhere he could.

“I love you,” Nishinoya murmured, his head buried in your hair.

Again, you didn’t respond.

Nishinoya looked up at your face.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, “Why are you so quiet all the time?”

You avoided eye contact and refused to answer the question.

“It’s alright Y/N-chan. I know you don’t really like talking,” he concluded, mostly to himself.

Nishinoya buried his head back into your hair.

You hated being trapped there. You hated the hugs, cuddles, kisses. And you especially hated you kind and caring he was after kidnapping you.

One day, while Nishinoya was at work, you wriggled your wrists free from the ropes. You knew Nishinoya didn’t keep cameras around.

As you stepped outside for the first time after over a year, you breathed in the fresh air. The sights of nature.

But first things first, getting your captor in jail. You broke out into a sprint to the police station. You were taken in for questioning after you told them you’d been kidnapped.

After explaining the full story, the officers in the room with you shook their heads in dismiss.

“It seems like your so called ‘captor’ just wanted you to love them,” one of the officers said.

You were stunned, “But-“

“That’s enough. Now go home and get some rest,” the other officer said.

You slowly trudged your way out of the police station. If the police didn’t believe you, surely your parents would.

Once the shock and explanations were over, your own parents looked at you in concern.

“The police said that you had run away,” your mom said.

“They’re wrong. They refused to believe me,” you protested.

“I trust the authorities,” your dad said, “After all, you’re just a kid.”

You scoff. Abruptly standing up, you stormed out of the place you once called home.

It had been a few months now. If you hadn’t escaped it’d be two year of captivity. When you escaped you never thought you’d want to go back.

Now, just looking at yourself disgusts you. Homeless, jobless, pathetic. You were useless and meaningless now.

It almost made you want to go back. You pushed the thought down. Even if you did, Nishinoya would be disgusted by you and he probably doesn’t even love you anymore anyways.

The breaking point came when Winter hit. It was freezing. You could tell that it’d snow soon. You needed shelter before that happens.

But where?

You hesitated at the door. You quickly composed yourself and knocked. The door swung open after a few seconds.

The eyes of a familiar short figure widened.

“Y/N-chan?” Nishinoya asked in shock.

You nodded.

“Y/N-chan! I’m so glad you’re okay! I’ve been so worried. I tried to find you but I found nothing. Let’s go inside. I bet you’re freezing,” he said.

“You mean it?” you asked, “After I left you? Even though I look like absolute crap?”

“Why wouldn’t I? Y/N-chan, you’re still perfect,” he said with a smile, “I love you. Now let’s get you cleaned up. I’ll make you something to eat after and we’ll cuddle.”

You nodded enthusiastically. Closing the door behind you, you had sealed your fate.

You sat on the bed, still drying your wet hair. You felt so refreshed after a shower. Nishinoya gave you his sweater and sweatpants, promising to go out with you and buy some clothes for yourself one day.

Speaking of which, Nishinoya walked into holding a tray of your favourite foods. He sat now next to you.

“Thank you, Noya,” you said.

“No problem!” he responded.

After you were done your food, you and Nishinoya lay down on the bed and cuddled.

You realized you had truly missed it. The hugs, the cuddles, the kisses, and most of all, the love.

While you were taking in the warmth of his body, Nishinoya smirked. His plan worked perfectly. His influence had convinced everyone you were a run away. Now you had willingly come back to his arms.

Everything was perfect.

1971 Green Beret Captain Richard Flaherty stands next to 6'6" Pfc. Nipps.

Richard J. Flaherty, due to complications at his birth, only grew to 4-foot-9-inches tall, 97-pounds. Coming from a family of military heroes Richard also wanted to do his part and serve his country.

People laughed at the idea of a man his size in the military and all the branches turned him down. But that didn't deter Richard, he spent the next 3 years writing letters until he finally received a medical waiver. With the waiver the Army allowed him to join... but no one ever believed he would make it through basic training.

His uniforms didn't fit, the equipment was too big, and he was required to carry a back pack during long marches that was almost the same weight as he was. Because of his leg length marching in step with the rest of his company was incredibly difficult but Richard kept up. All the obstacle courses were built for average size men but Richard conquered them all. No rules were ever changed for Richard - either he would sink or swim.

Richard didn't just make it through basic training he volunteered and become an elite paratrooper, with the 101st Airborne. When he would jump out of planes the instructors would have to strap machine gun parts to his body to help his descent so he wouldn't "float away."

He graduated Officer Candidate School in 1968 as a 2nd Lieutenant and deployed to Vietnam. Within weeks he would lead his platoon in some of the bloodiest battles during the "Tet Offensive." In that week he was wounded twice by grenade fragmentation and a grazing bullet wound to the head but as soon as he was patched up he jumped right back into the battle.

After several months of fighting on the front lines many officers would accept assignments in the rear away from the action but not Richard. He would request to be transferred to Echo Company to lead a RECON unit which engaged in dangerous search and destroy missions deep into enemy territory. By the time his first tour in Vietnam was finished, Richard would receive the Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars with Valor, & 2 Purple Hearts.

If you think that's where Richard's story ends, think again. Richard would become an elite Green Beret with the 3rd Special Forces Group and be promoted to Captain. He served with the 46th Company based in Thailand where some of their clandestine missions sent them into Pink Zones "across the fence" fighting Malaysian and Burmese guerrillas.

As incredible as all his accomplishments seem that's just the first half of his life story as his next chapters of undercover operations around the world seem closer to something out of a Tom Clancy book.

Richard had one last surprise when it came to his final wishes. Even though he knew he was qualified for the highest military burial in Arlington National Cemetery he instead chose to be buried in a small anonymous cemetery in W. Virginia so he could be next to the women he loved for eternity.

In January of 1969, he returned to CONUS and attended the Special Forces School at Fort Bragg and was then assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group. Later that year he returned to South East Asia with the 46th Special Forces Company A-110 in Camp Pawai, Lopburi Thailand.

Captain Flaherty earned the Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts, the Air Medal, Gallantry Cross W/Silver Star, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, 3 Overseas Bars, Sharpshooter Badge W/Rifle Bar, Air Medal, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service badge.

July 3 - New Heights Ep. 97 airs, season 2 finale. Jason & Travis Kelce discuss Travis' debut on the Eras Tour stage (x) (x 48:30)

Kelce said it was initially his idea to join the show at Wembley Stadium, recalling that he told Swift it would be “funny” if he “rolled out on one of the bikes” that dancers typically ride on stage during the 1989 portion of the show.

Kelce said Swift laughed, but then asked him, “Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?”

“I was just like, ‘What? I would love to do that. Are you kidding me? I’ve seen the show enough — might as well put me to work here,’” he recalled. “And sure enough, she found the perfect part of the show for me to come in.”

Kelce surprised the crowd in London last week when he appeared on stage in a tuxedo and top hat carrying Swift onstage in “The Tortured Poets Department” era of the show.

It happened on the third night of the London stops, after the brothers attended Swift’s first two shows there.

“There was no bike in case I ran into somebody else or hit one of the dancers or anything,” Kelce said. “It was the safest option.”

Kelce said his silly dance on stage was inspired by one Jim Carey does in the movie “Dumb and Dumber.”

“I always wanted to pull out this move, but I never knew like when I should pull it out where it made sense,” he said. “That’s one of my favorite moves of all time!”

All said, Kelce called it an “honor” being on the stage with Swift and her dancers.

“It was an absolute blast,” he shared. “It was such a fun, playful part of the show and it was like the perfect time for me to go up there, just be a ham and have some fun, not only with [Swift]… but the crowd and really try and get everybody excited for the rest of the show. It was awesome.”

“I didn’t disappoint Taylor, so that’s all that really matters,” he added, saying his only rule was “do not drop the baby.”

“The golden rule was ‘Do not drop Taylor. Get her to the couch safe,’” Kelce said.

His brother and co-host Jason Kelce laughed, adding: “No fumbles.”

🌹 Rosa got that title called the “Secret Messenger” from Alejandro. For being able to pass down the intel from one of the cartel without being caught. As she brought that information to Aly.

🌹 Her handy skills was taught by her Older Cousin and her father. For she was very inspired by it. 

BACKGROUND STORY:

Rosa was born and raised in Las Almas. She lives in a house with her parents and her three sisters. And she is also close with her three cousins, who lived next door. Living with their parents as well.

Most people know them by helping out everyone in Las Almas. By fixing their cars, their home, fixing broken pipes. ANYTHING. They are like the handyman. Rosa was very inspired by them and wanted to try it too.

So her Older Cousin, named Abel, teached her how to fix things. Even her father agreed to teach her as well. She got a hang of it and started helping her father and her Uncle whenever they go somewhere to assist people.

She usually goes with them after school.

She loves her family very much. And she would do anything to help to provide money for them. One day!

Rosa’s beauty was also very mesmerizing. Even her older sister, named Victoria. She always looked up to her seeing her beautiful face and body. Should thank their mother’s genes.

These two would always do each other’s make up and fix each other’s hair. It grew them so close even along with their other two younger sisters.

She even enjoys being with her cousins’ company as well. Her, her sisters, her cousins, her parents, her aunt and uncle. There’s nothing that she could ask for more.

Until before the day of the Son of La Araña incidents.

Rosa, who was in her 20s on that day, had found something suspicious with her Aunt and Uncle. Because of hearing her father arguing with her Uncle. Saying something about a “BAD IDEA” or “WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO OUR FAMILY?! PUTTING THEM! PUTTING US IN DANGER?!”

She heard that last week. Not even Victoria knew about it when she told her older sister. But the two had a feeling it’s not good.

So on the day of the La Araña, when the Mexican Special Forces had found the Son.

Rosa, her sisters and her parents made sure to lock everything up during that time. Afraid that they might get into a crossfire.

When everything calmed down. They thought that they were safe.

But are they?

A few days passed after that incident. When during the middle of the night. Rosa was sleeping with her younger sisters, even with Victoria before jolting awake to hear their mother’s scream.

Victoria and Rosa told their younger sisters to stay while they ran down.

And froze to see two men, who had already shot their parents, pointing their guns at them.

Victoria put Rosa behind making sure they wouldn't shoot her. And before the two men could shoot, they were already shot and stabbed by their Uncle and Abel.

The sisters were relieved to see them but questioning what was going on. And that’s when the Uncle had finally told the truth which leaves them and even his son in SHOCKED.

The Uncle had explained that they have borrowed money from the Son of La Araña. Helping him to secretly give out drugs and in return is the money.

BUT when he saw how close they were getting caught and being afraid of putting their family in danger. He and the Aunt decided to spill out the intel to the Mexican Special Forces to STOP him. And begging them to spare them and their family for they were trying to get money.

After telling the truth, Victoria had fumed up with anger and started lashing at her Uncle. While Abel tried to calm his cousin down.

Even Rosa was upset since they have LOST their parents. And because of her kind heart, she forgave them. But not Victoria.

She started to plan to leave Las Almas with her sisters but to her surprise…Rosa and their other two younger sisters don't want to.

How could they not? Las Almas is their home. It’ll give them great pain to leave.

So Victoria just left without giving a proper goodbyes which leaves Rosa with an aching heart. But she stood her ground and chin up as she helped her Uncle to build a bar.

An idea that he has the whole time ever since he assisted La Araña.

Building up a bar and named it “Pequeña Rosa”. Wanting to name it after Camila’s nickname. Knowing her love for roses and her parents always calls her that as well.

Her Aunt and Uncle started to run this place while taking care of their family, along with Rosa and her sisters.

And that’s when she met Alejandro and Rudy with their Los Vaqueros coming in to have some drinks. She heard them talking about the cartel and even that new person called “El Si Nombre”.

She knew that was the person who had killed her parents. So she started to walk over to their table and make them a deal. She had offered them that she would assist them. By giving them intel from anyone who she sees or hears.

Which they’re having a hard time believing that an ordinary female citizen would give them the INTEL.

And she showed them though. For she had found a group of the cartel members just sitting in for some drinks in her new bar.

And overheard their conversation about the deal for one of the drug traffickers. She also told Alejandro and Rudy that they will be back here. So she planned on luring the men into a VIP room where they will wait to take action.

Which they succeeded.

Alejandro was very pleased with Rosa’s help. So in return, he’ll provide them protection for her family and will clear out her Uncle and Aunt’s record of them ever working for the Son of Las Araña.

And that’s when her Uncle decided for her to take over the bar. And let her continue on helping Alejandro and the others while working in the bar. And he knows very well that her parents are so proud. 

The Colonel also introduced her to Aly and her brother, named Karlos. Whenever Rosa has the intel, she would straight up call Aly or her brother.

And from that day, Alejandro had called her the name that only he, Rudy, Aly and the other Los Vaqueros knew her by.

hey there! i just read your post about musical bootlegs, and you mentioned that some filmers just disappeared. do you have any examples? i'd love to learn more about the history of bootlegging

Oh, that would probably be a really long list. I'll just note some of the most well-known ones that occurred during my time trading (so post-2011), whether within the trading community or in Phantom. Keep in mind too that some filmers disappear for a long while only to make a return; I won't be listing them since they're still around in some form. I'm also not going to name many of them because, well, safety, but you might be able to tell who they are based on the bootlegs I list as theirs.

One of the first is a filmer who filmed, among other things, the last show of Phantom's 3rd national tour, the video of Chris Mann and Katie Travis in Phantom, and the complete video of Dallas's modernized version of Les Miserables. They're well known to me because they actually posted their releases on Tumblr for a time, only to get harassed out because people kept yelling at them for bootlegging or selling bootlegs. They disappeared shortly thereafter; not sure if it's related to what happened to them on Tumblr, but it was a loss because I believe they were situated on the West Coast, whereas most other US filmers are in the East Coast, around Broadway, so we lost someone who could film productions in LA, San Francisco, and the tours.

Another who disappeared shortly thereafter was someone who was, well, a prolific filmer of many shows on Broadway and occasionally tours all over the US and was active since at least the mid-2000s. If you've watched, I don't know, the Cooper Grodin restaged tour videos, the original Broadway cast of Hamilton, the original Broadway cast of the 2nd revival of Les Miserables, any of those, you've seen their videos. From what I've gathered, they experienced some personal issues that caused them to take a break from filming and they have not returned since.

Also happening around the same period of time was another, mainly Broadway-based filmer who also did a few videos on the West End. (They filmed a video of Ben Crawford with Ali Ewoldt as well as the video of David Thaxton and Kelly Mathieson.) My recollection is that this person experienced a lot of leaks of their videos, causing them to take stricter and stricter measures in an effort to stop that, which culminated in them leaving altogether. Them leaving along with the two above contributed in some part to the dearth of bootlegs you see in the... late 2010s or so, at least with Phantom, because they were some of the most prolific filmers around. It wouldn't be until after COVID-19 that I saw a resurgence of filmers on Broadway.

Going back in time a bit! If you ever look at trading lists, you might see that there are a lot, and I mean a lot, of videos from the Broadway production of Phantom from 2012-2015 or so. That's almost entirely due to two filmers who were also very active on Tumblr and were based in NYC and went quite often to catch various understudies, swings, and unusual cast combinations. Both have since left filming, though in their case, it's at least partially because they're working in the theater industry in some capacity now.

And onto more depressing cases... there were a couple of filmers based in Europe, I think Germany or Austria, though they definitely made trips to other countries. They filmed several of the Phantom Hamburg revival videos, a lot of Elisabeth videos, and a number of the West End Les Miserables videos (if you see one that's heavily focused on Anton Zetterholm - yeah, that's one of theirs, that filmer was a fan). Unfortunately both were... I think either arrested or had their homes raided (or both) and collections confiscated, and while I think they were released, you can bet that put them off filming.

Finally and most recently, that I know of, the filmer who got the one complete video of Jonathan Roxmouth in the World Tour was caught and has not done any filming since, obviously. That was a shame as well because they had been planning to get more videos of the World Tour with the various alternates and understudies, but of course that never happened.

So that's a few, there's way more around, but I was just trying to think of some of the most prolific recorders around.
