Heya! Just wanted to ask you as a big Wicked fan - do you know of any Black actors who have played Fiyero? :)
Hello!!!! Thank you for asking, talking about Wicked actors is one of my favorite things to do!
Yes! There are some AMAZING Black actors who have played Fiyero!
Tumblr media
Taye Diggs played Fiyero for a time early in the Broadway run (late 2003-early 2004). Fun fact he got to play opposite Idina Menzel (his then wife!)
Tumblr media
Derrick Williams was the original Fiyero for the 1st National Tour Cast in North America! He also went on to play the role on Broadway. (Side note: I met him when he was on tour with Book of Mormon and he was so nice!)
Tumblr media
Christian Thompson recently played Fiyero on the 2nd National Tour (North America) in 2023-early 2024. He also did a short stint on Broadway covering the role when Jordan Litz was out for a few weeks.
I got to see him on tour in his first week of performances and he was AMAZING!
Tumblr media
Ryan Reid is currently playing Fiyero in the West End London cast. Fun fact: He plays opposite Alexia Khadime (Elphaba) and Lucy St. Louis (Glinda) who are both Black as well. Their contracts will all be up fairly soon, but they've been playing the leads in London for about a year now.
Tumblr media
Last (but not least) Xavier McKinnon is currently playing Fiyero in the North American 2nd National Tour! I hope to get to see him perform this spring.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those are all of the Black actors who have played Fiyero that came to my mind, but there may be more. If my followers know of any others, please add them!
In recent years I believe we've been seeing an uptick in casting diverse actors for the major roles in Wicked. I certainly hope that continues!

Roman Egypt
The rich lands of Egypt became the property of Rome after the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BCE, which spelled the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty that had ruled Egypt since the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE. After the murder of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, the Roman Republic was left in turmoil. Fearing for her life and throne, the young queen joined forces with the Roman commander Mark Antony, but their resounding defeat at the Battle of Actium in 31 BCE brought the adopted son and heir apparent of Caesar, Gaius Julius Octavius (Octavian), to the Egyptian shores. Desperate, Cleopatra chose suicide rather than face the humiliation of capture. According to one historian, she was simply on the wrong side of a power struggle.
Early Relations with Rome
Rome's presence in Egypt actually predated both Julius Caesar and Octavian. The Romans had been involved periodically in Egyptian politics since the days of Ptolemy VI in the 2nd century BCE. The history of Egypt, dating from the ousting of the Persians under Alexander through the reign of the Ptolemys and the arrival of Julius Caesar, saw a nation suffer through conquest, turmoil, and inner strife. The country had survived for decades under the umbrella of a Greek-speaking ruling family. Although a center of culture and intellect, Alexandria was still a Greek city surrounded by non-Greeks. The Ptolemys, with the exception of Cleopatra VII, never traveled outside the city, let alone learn the native tongue. For generations, they married within the family, brother married sister or uncle married niece.
Ptolemy VI served with his mother, Cleopatra I, until her unexpected death in 176 BCE. Despite having serious troubles with a brother who challenged his right to the throne, he began a chaotic rule of his own. During his reign, Egypt was invaded twice between 169 and 164 BCE by the Seleucid king Antiochus IV; the invading army even approached the outskirts of the capital city of Alexandria; however, with the assistance of Rome, Ptolemy VI regained token control. While the next few pharaohs made little if any impact on Egypt, in 88 BCE the young Ptolemy XI succeeded his exiled father, Ptolemy X. After awarding both Egypt and Cyprus to Rome, Ptolemy XI was placed on the throne by the Roman general Cornelius Sulla and ruled with his step-mother Cleopatra Berenice until he murdered her. Ptolemy XI's ill-advised relationship with Rome caused him to be despised by many Alexandrians, and he was therefore expelled in 58 BCE. However, he eventually regained the throne but was only able to remain there through kickbacks and his ties to Rome.
When the Roman commander Pompey was soundly defeated by Caesar in 48 BCE at the Battle of Pharsalus, he sought refuge in Egypt; however, to win the favor of Caesar, Ptolemy VIII killed and beheaded Pompey. When Caesar arrived, the young pharaoh presented him with Pompey's severed head. Caesar reportedly wept, not because he mourned Pompey's death but supposedly had missed the chance of killing the fallen commander himself. Also, according to some sources, in his eyes, it was a disgraceful way to die. Caesar remained in Egypt to procure the throne for Cleopatra as Ptolemy's actions had forced him to side with the queen against her brother. With the defeat of the young Ptolemy, the Ptolemaic kingdom became a Roman client state, but immune to any political interference from the Roman Senate. Visiting Romans were treated well, even 'pampered and entertained' with sightseeing tours down the Nile. Unfortunately, there was no saving one Roman who accidentally killed a cat - sacred by tradition to the Egyptians - he was executed by a mob of Alexandrians.
History and Shakespeare have recounted ad nauseam the sordid love affair between Caesar and Cleopatra; however, his unexpected assassination forced her to seek help in safeguarding her throne. She chose incorrectly; Antony was not the one. His arrogance had brought the ire of Rome. Antony believed Alexandria to be another Rome, even choosing to be buried there next to Cleopatra. Octavian rallied the citizens and Senate against Antony, and when he landed in Egypt, the young commander became the master of the entire Roman army. His victory over Antony and Cleopatra awarded Rome with the richest kingdom along the Mediterranean Sea. His future was guaranteed. The country's overflowing granaries were now the property of Rome; it became the 'breadbasket' of the empire, the 'jewel of the empire's crown.' However, according to one historian, Octavian believed that Egypt was now his own private kingdom, he was the heir of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a pharaoh. Senators were even prohibited from visiting Egypt without permission.

🟧 AFTER YOM KIPPUR - Updates from Israel
THANKS - special thanks to our valiant soldiers who spent their Yom Kippur keeping us safe instead of with their families or in synagogue.  Our prayers are in their merit.
⭕SUICIDE DRONES from HEZBOLLAH hit HERTZILYA on Yom Kippur night, hitting a NURSING HOME.  1 intercepted, 1 got through.  1 injury.
⭕HEAVY ROCKET BARRAGES across the north, hitting Haifa, Acco, Karmiel, Safed, Rosh Pina, and towns throughout the north over Yom Kippur.  3 people were slightly injured by a rocket falling in the Western Galilee and 12 were slightly injured on the way to a protected area.
⭕ROCKETS FROM GAZA on Yom Kippur, to southern Ashkelon.  No casualties, and the IDF continues a policy of forced evac of source areas of fire.
▪️YOM KIPPUR - medics treated 286 fainted, dehydrated or felt ill due to the fast, and took 146 women in labor to the hospitals, one who gave birth in the ambulance.
▪️A HERO SOLDIER HAS FALLEN.. in battle in Gaza before Yom Kippur.. Ittai Fogel, 22, from Yakir.  May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem, and may G-d avenge his blood!
❗️On Yom Kippur the IDF had 1 serious injury in battle in Gaza, no others casualties.
♦️IDF airstrikes on 280 targets throughout the holiday, in Lebanon and Gaza.
♦️IDF forces eliminated 50 terrorists in face-to-face encounters and directed air force strikes, and destroyed more than 200 Hezbollah terrorist targets from the air and with artillery.
♦️IDF created a small border buffer into SYRIA, in the Alonei Habashan - Kwdana area.
🔹The Christian sectors in Lebanon are in talks to form a political alliance against the Hezbollah.
🔹Yemeni defense minister says an operation against the Houthi Rebels is "imminent”.
🔹Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi calls for Chapter VII of the UN Charter to be invoked to “force Israel to comply with international law and immediately end all its illegal wars” in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon.  This framework allows the UN Security Council to impose sanctions or in extreme cases even military force to guard against threats to peace.
▪️Nicaragua announced the severance of relations with Israel "due to the attacks on the Palestinian lands".
▪️Speaker of the Iranian parliament arrived in Beirut and toured the area, leaving later in the day to Turkey.  This is the 2nd Iranian commercial-diplomatic flight to break the Israeli air ban.

Teen Discovers 1800-Year-Old Ring Engraved with Goddess Athena on Mount Carmel
The artifact was examined with the assistance of Prof. Shua Amorai-Stark, an expert on ancient rings and amulets from the Kaye Academic College.
A Haifa teenager recently discovered an ancient engraved ring while hiking on Mount Carmel in northern Israel, according to the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). The ring, which is engraved with the image of Athena, the Greek goddess of war, has been handed over to the IAA and is set to be displayed in Jerusalem.
This July, 13-year-old Yair Whiteson's discovery will be displayed at the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel in Jerusalem.
The teen's interest in fossils and rocks helped lead to this shocking discovery. When he made the discovery, Whiteson was hiking near the ancient quarry site below Khirbet Shalala with his father, who had recently returned from four months of army reserve duty. The teen noticed a small green object, initially mistaken for a rusty bolt. After closer inspection, he realized it was a corroded ring with an engraved image.
“At first glance, I thought it was a warrior,” Yair said.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The family contacted Nir Distelfeld, an inspector at the IAA’s Theft Prevention Unit, who quickly arranged for the object to be transferred to the National Treasures Department. The artifact was then examined with the assistance of Prof. Shua Amorai-Stark, an expert on ancient rings and amulets from the Kaye Academic College.
“On this beautifully preserved ring is the image of a helmeted naked figure holding a shield in one hand and a spear in the other,” explained Distelfeld and Dr. Eitan Klein from the IAA's Unit for the Prevention of Antiquities Robbery.
“Yair's identification of the figure as a warrior was close; it is likely the goddess Minerva from Roman mythology, known as Athena in Greek mythology. This goddess, popular during the Roman period in the Land of Israel, was considered the goddess of war and military strategy, as well as wisdom.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anicent archaeological discovery made by young teen
The bronze ring dates back to the 2nd-3rd Century CE - the Late Roman Period. It was believed to have belonged to a female, possibly a farmstead resident, a quarry worker, or even as a burial offering in a nearby cave.
Khirbet Shalala, the archaeological site near the discovery, is situated on a hilltop in the Carmel Mountains, surrounded by Nahal Oren and near the perennial water source Ein Alon. Various archaeologists have explored the site, including 19th-century Palestine Exploration Fund surveyor Prof. Ruth Miran and a Bar-Ilan University expedition led by Prof. Shimon Dar.
Visitors to the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel can revel in ancient history through IAA tours throughout the summer.

Nikki McCann Ramírez and Ryan Bort at Rolling Stone:
Donald Trump continued his pre-election economic event tour on Tuesday with a lengthy interview with Bloomberg at the Economic Club of Chicago. It was a total mess.  Bloomberg Editor-In-Chief John Micklethwait did not take it easy on Trump, and it quickly became clear that the former president has no conception of the mechanics of or the potential ramifications of the economic platform he’s running on. Bluntly, the former president was incoherent when pressed with real questions about his policies. Micklethwait spent most of the interview attempting to break Trump out of what the former president repeatedly referred to as “the weave,” his term for his rambling digressions — with ever-decreasing intelligibility — and general inability to focus on a given topic for more than a few seconds during his rallies and interviews. Micklethwait didn’t weave along with Trump, however, repeatedly working to bring him back on topic and answer the actual questions. The grilling exposed Trump’s total cluelessness with regard to his own economic policy, and led Trump to attack Micklethwait as biased.
Trump gets schooled on tariffs
The central pillar of Trump’s economic plan is widespread tariffs on all imported goods, with penalties appearing to increase depending on how much he dislikes the country. Economists have warned that such a policy could have devastating effects on American consumers, who would be saddled with increased costs for all imported goods.  [...]
Trump gets frustrated and bashes the interviewer
Micklethwait’s attempts to keep Trump on topic earned him no grace from the former president, who hates few things more than being contradicted.  When Micklethwait asked Trump to address a report by The Wall Street Journal estimating that his economic proposals would raise the national debt by upwards of $7 trillion, the former president fell back on his standard playbook: bashing the interviewer.  “What does The Wall Street Journal know? They’ve been wrong about everything, and so have you by the way, you’ve been wrong,” Trump replied, crossing his arms and curling into his seat.  [...]
Trump claims his rambling is strategic
At one point, after Trump spent minutes meandering through multiple trains of thought in response to a question about the American dollar’s status as an international reserve currency, Micklethwait attempted to interject into his rambling. Trump wasn’t happy. “You have got to be able to finish a thought because it is very important,” Trump said.  “You’ve gone from the dollar to [Emmanuel Macron],” Micklethwait countered.  The former president claimed that his speaking style was “called the weave” and that “it’s all these different things happening.”  OK then.
Today in front of The Economic Club of Chicago, Dementia DonOld revealed that he isn’t up to the task for the Presidency for a 2nd time should he get elected, as he was constantly pressed by Bloomberg’s John Micklethwait on how he would enact his economic agenda and ludicrously defending his ramblings as “the weave.”
Three weeks from now (if they haven’t voted already), Americans need to reject this cognitively-challenged fascist dementia patient at the ballot box and vote for Kamala Harris, who is sane and has actual cognitive skills to do the job.

I would love to know ur rurhgold headcanons! also, who do you pair him with for races?
Anon I must let you know that I've had this ask on my mind eversince it came in but I always went "woah I've never had a coherent thought about that guy"
NO MORE. Here's some headcanons.
Design based ones:
Starting off strong with an injury headcanon: If you asked me to draw him I would give him a mechanical right arm and a chipped tooth. This one stems from that One tour (2nd US once in race 2??? I think) where he gets fucking annihilated and no one bats an eye
Following that I think he's right-handed but now favours his left due to. Yk. The right arm falling off
I dont have a set face claim for him 😭😭
If you've ever looked at my art you'll see me making him look like a tall blonde dude tho. Kinda square built, I think I made him the tallest of the Nationals
General headcanons:
Pre-2018 Ruhr strikes me as a calm and more quiet guy that's not one for parties and rather enjoys a little Jägermeister in the evening he'll be like "this is nice :)"
Post-2018 Ruhr. However. Can and will be the one to host and provide drinks. Can and will also try to outdrink Turnov (goes one way or another) this ones cuz I generally read him a little younger nowadays I guess
I wish 1) he had more lines 2) they gave him a dialect it would've been so so funny. Ruhrgold schwätz Ruhrdeutsch onstage 2025 do it do it
He's actually time blind so unfortunately not all delays can be blamed on bad DB planning
As for races!!
Honestly I haven't thought much about that. I think Carrie and him make a great pair, he's very sweet towards her and looks out for her in the races. On the other hand I think pairing him with freight would be insanely funny for confronting him with his own stereotypes towards freight. "I'm a sprinter I don't DO Frachtverkehr Junge was soll das" and then he gets slapped by whoever he's pulling and they become friends or something. Anything is possible!
