Moose Nibbles - Thoughts [Spoilers]

The last episode in this week's batch of new episodes. Here are my thoughts: Spoilers ahead!

More ammo for my analysis of the canon timeline: The opening sequence of this episode takes place in Grizzly Gulch, the central location of Activate Kid Power, suggesting this episode takes place after that special. No reason why I'd mention it, just had to.

Ok I'll admit, this was a funny joke. Much like the salamander episode, this ep. is way funnier than it has any right to be.

Obligatory "why the fuck did it take them 14 years to make a moose episode?" aside... this is the first time we've seen a moose calf in the series and oh my god it's so fucking cute!!!

When they announced at the live show that they were doing a moose episode, I was really hoping that this episode would be a prequel to Little Howler, showing how the brothers got the moose disc. While I'm not disappointed that it didn't happen, and whilst this episode does more than enough to make up for that, still.

Also here is the show agreeing with me as to how absurd it is that we're almost 8 seasons in and we're only JUST NOW getting a moose adventure.

A few things to note

I am SO GLAD that we were wrong and that this wasn't a musical number. Idc how good the song from the previous S7 episodes were, those mfs cannot sing 😭

This entire file name is titled "acid," which I think is a good enough descriptor for this entire sequence. I feel like it would be even WORSE on acid.

This is a joke in the episode that DOESN'T land and that's purely because of the punchline; secondhand embarassment is not enough to detail how cringe it is. They were doing so well beforehand too, like what gives 😭

After 3 seasons and 8 years, the Moose Suit is back!

I know I glaze S7's animation a lot, but I want to do it here because goddamn did the animators have so much fun with this scene and the facial expression. This is the type of shit I'd expect in a Spongebob episode, not Wild Kratts, but it's so fucking funny regardless! I know people think that the new seasons can get too 'kid-oriented' sometimes and part of me agrees but scenes like this make me happy regardless because I know that 8 year old me would've rolled on the floor at this. I'm laughing at this as an adult!

Also, what probably helps this scene is the color direction: There are three shades of green in this scene. The dark green that's in 75% of the background, the spring green in 35% of the background alongside Chris's bullfrog power suit (that matches the green hues of a frog) AND the light greens of the antlers juxtaposed to the other shades and thus the easiest to see! This helps the joke because you're obviously going to be attracted to so much green complimenting each other but also you're immediately going to point out the one thing that's NOT supposed to be there and laugh at it because of how easy it is to spot.

Yeah, two paragraphs glazing analyzing this one scene because the f*cking sight gag was green!

The first time we ALSO see a female moose in the series! I love this episode.

Had a conversation with my friends involving this, and of course I'm enough of a nitpicky bastard to ask this ultimately meaningless and fruitless question - what exact effect does the CPS have on the user's digestive tract? I assume that if an animal's abilities/biological life-hacks include specialized digestive tract (i.e. like a lemur, panda, or gazelle) it changes the user's tract to match the animal's, especially since we've seen this be the case before (i.e. the T-Devil and Gazelle Suits, both of which have been used by Chris).

All I'm saying is, compared to the sh*t that Chris has eaten in the CPS, (moldy pizza and grass that has probably been stepped/shat on), twigs are probably the best meal he'd take lmao.

Hell yeah babeeey we got the Oak Tree Power Suit callback!

Admittedly not as funny as the Bullfrog-Moose joke earlier, but still incredibly enjoyable of a sight gag. They didn't even try to hide the blatant callback and that just made it even more chuckle-worthy.

Also another episode where Jimmy plays a key role in saving the day. I feel like this is building up to an episode that will finally answer the question of "Does Jimmy need a Creature Power Suit" and with how they've been developing his character this season, I'd be good with either a "yes" or "no." Just something I'd like to mention.

CHICKADEE AVIVA!!!!!

I'm with Martin here. I feel like the proper method of preventing such crazy malfunctions from even being a problem in the first place would be THAT F*CKING RING CHIP THAT WAS CREATED A DECADE AGO TO HANDLE THIS EXACT CONTINGENCY AND I WILL KEEP BRINGING UP UNTIL SHE F*CKING COMPLETES IT.... or... someting like that.

Again, somehow this joke manages to keep being funny even after they overdo it. Well played, writers, well played.

But also, what is the species of the snake that touched Martin in this scene? What kind of snake suit was he malfunctioned into? The fandom wiki says it's a garter snake but the suit resembles the Rattlesnake Suit from Season 2 and even had the insignia, so I assumed that this was actually a King Snake Suit since most king snakes mimic rattlesnakes. But we've seen two species of king snakes in WK (the prairie king snake from Season 3 and the Eastern Kingsnake from the flash games), neither of which resemble the snake in the episode? Can any snake experts help me out? Because I'm gonna be mad if it turns out that yet ANOTHER episode in this batch was aired out of order.

CONCLUSION:

Pros:

The animation. Most of the jokes land here simply because the detailed and fluid animation compliments the comedy.

The fact that we got a moose episode at all.

The callback malfunctions. I don't exactly know, nor can I confirm how much online activity in the fandom chatboards managed to reach the radar of the Wild Kratts staff (logically it can't be much since the Internet's a vocal minority and all that but given the two year long dry season before S7, it can't be none at all, but I digress) but it definitely feels like the malfunctions in this episode were subtly written for older fans who were around during Seasons 1-2, since many of the suits we haven't seen since around that time. The self-aware humor surrounding the oak tree suit callback is more than enough of an indictator. But whether it was intentional or not, it's still a silly fun stirng of callbacks to episodes we know and love, and that is what I can appreciate it for.

Cons:

The Disney-acid sequence in this episode: Mainly the punchline that kneecapped any comedic potential it had and just came off as cringe. Skip. Skip Skip.

I'm gonna be honest, there are not that many pros or cons I can enlist about this episode beyond overanalysis and nitpicking. The entire premise of this episode down to its execution is simplistic, which isn't a bad thing. It was still enjoyable, it's still something that I can find myself rewatching on end. It's still something that I can point out personal cons vs. pros with (the acid sequence vs. the malfunctions) but divorced from all of that, it's a simple middle of the road episode at its core. Again, it's probably just filtration bias after being hung up from Monday's high-stake special, but I'm gonna say it's above average at best.

feeling very drained so I'm gonna just ramble off some headcanons I think are funny

*Martin was in charge of picking up Chis from school and once he knew Chris wasn't paying attention he'd blast any and all music at top volume just to mess with him

*During a team sleepover Jimmy had been accidentally left outside and was locked out for 5 minutes, he still hasn't forgive everyone yet

*Martin was often left in charge of Chris when his parents had to go out of town, They would spend all night watch TV and nothing but junk food

*Jimmy does smoke weed but because the others don't like the smell he smokes outside or waits till everyone is asleep

*Chris did try smoking weed with Jimmy, but he found it made him over think to the point where he was trying to redesign the CPS, Martin wasn't happy about that

*Koki is so good at sewing and embroidery to the point the boys always bring they're gear to her specifically, so she can make little animal embroidery on the inside of they're gear

*Zack is so close to his mother he makes it a point to call her every Sunday around noon, everyone knows this and doesn't plan or do anything in those hours

*Aviva has a bit of a sweet tooth when ever Jimmy does some baking she's always the first to try his recipes

*Zach does have a crush on Chris but denys it, but he's not exactly subtle about it so Chris takes every opportunity to flirt with Zach just so he can see him get flustered, Martin just wants to go home during these times

*The ability for Chris being able to sleep anywhere is something he kept from his college years during cram weeks, the team gets very concerned when they caught him sleeping in a tree

*The reason the team sleeps in hammocks is because they're easier to clean and take less space than an actual bed

*During flu seasons Both Jimmy and Martin will fight tooth and nail not to get shots, it'll take an hour and bribery just to get then to sit down. It takes Chris has to hold both their hands to get them to calm enough to get the shot.

*The Tortuga gang can drink and often have drinks together during peaceful nights or after very stressful nights. Martin would always joke that Chris and koki were too much to drink, earning him a quick shoulder punch or an eye roll

*After the Chris bot incident the brothers joked that with the CPS they could be actually power house villans if they wanted too, Aviva knowing they were joking but not taking the chance locked the CPS for a week while she worked on fails safes in case that happened

*The Kratts have been sued by many poachers after either interfering with they're hurting or for the brothers attacking them after they've been shot at. In actual court the poachers always lost when the judges sided with the kratts for way reasons including, they were poaching on government protected land and it's very clean to tell actual animals from those that look blue and green and can talk

*Mama Kratt makes it a her responsibility to call her boys every week and for them to visit her every mother's day. When they visit she always has they're favorites ready and showers them in so many kisses the lipstick wouldn't wash off for a month.

In WK x octonauts what would the octonauts think about creature powers disks

Hi, Anon! Good question!

So, in a scenerio which they’d see the discs and power suits in action (likely in the Wild Kratts universe where they’re all humans lol), I feel like their reactions would be unique to the character.

For example, Tweak, an engineer, would see it from the scientific standpoint. She, especially, would ask more in-depth questions about it (and let’s be honest, she would talk Aviva’s ears off). Not only are the creature power suits a scientific breakthrough… they are engineered. She’s wondering if it’s a science she can recreate/work with (not that they necessarily need it, but the aspect of matter shift is fascinating). I’m sure there’s a more scientific term for the mass displacement and whatnot, but I just got over being sick with the flu and I can’t think.

Dashi, of course, would find the idea fascinating- and would probably learn all she can about the power suits, discs, and their effects on the user and write about it in her blogs. And as you can imagine, there’s plenty of pictures/proof. Example: enhanced strength, elongated canines, and several other aspects of physical alterations.*

*(I think I referenced this before, but the characters in Wild Kratts, specifically Chris and Martin, have funny little character quirks. Martin had balanced well over 1,000lbs (453.6 kilos) on his shoulders in the episode, “The Blue and Grey”; Chris has that whole… Tasmanian Devil malfunction. Martin also disguised himself as a rock for a bit.)

Onto Shellington. Shellington, as a marine biologist, and seems to have an interest in biology to begin. So, when these people have the ability to possess the powers of other biological entities, it becomes fascinating. Because they are not limited to their own humanly bodies, and instead are altered to be able to adapt to the environment the animals they ‘transform’ into are from. He definitely has them transform into certain sea creatures to see if it affects their own instinctual patterns (which in some cases, it has been shown that can be the case). [This also applies to Pearl]

Peso is more freaked out than he is interested, insisting that it can’t be that healthy for them to be doing that to their bodies- in his mind, it has to cause wear and strain- especially considering the human body shouldn’t be able to shift and contort to fill the suits in the way they do at times (again with the mass displacement and redistribution). The poor medic is in a frenzy each time they activate the suits around him.

Kwazzi is enthralled. He would likely hop around all excitedly and insist that he tries at least once- in his home universe, he’s a cat! Why would this hurt him? And would likely go to Martin and ask (better if he uses the puppy eyes against him) to use the power suits. And at some point, he would convince them. Ends up borrowing Koki’s vest without permission and running off.

Professor Inkling is between Tweak’s enthusiasm and Peso’s concern. Yes, the idea is fascinating, the issue is the practice. By all means, this is something that logistically should be impossible. He has read this plenty of passages that involved theories, and legends of humans with animalistic features- but never… a suit that makes a human have the abilities and a mechanical appearance of a creature. He worries about their capacity, if their bodies can truly withstand these strains- but ultimately, his curiosity wins him over.

Captain Barnacles is… disturbed. He sees no necessity in this group of conservationists to be going through the trouble of… becoming a creature. There are easier ways to protect them- especially with the technology the world has with humanity (their own tech is a bit advance but also a bit outdated compared to the Kratts. Funnily enough, I think the Octonauts have more humanly limitations than the Wild Kratts do). It takes a long time for him to start expressing any form of interest in the discs and power suits… but he never warms up to the idea of them.

The Vegimals do not care, they’re teaching Jimmy how to make fish biscuits.

+BONUS of the Octo-Agents

Min would be utterly fascinated, in my opinion. She is very open minded about the idea, and expresses her interest through questions- and her own playful theories. Besides, it is basically a form of quantum tech, which is a theoretical science.

Professor Natquik quickly looks over it. He is more fascinated to test the Kratt team and their physical abilities outside of their suits. Their reflexes and intelligence specifically. While yes, it is fascinating, it’s the people behind the suit he cares about.

Panni is in the same boat as Kwazzi. He wants to know and try everything about the power suits, and isn’t quite reserved at all. If this guy can ride a mudslide down the side of a mountain, he will definitely wear and activate a power suit without caring about the risks. He likes the tech idea, but he doesn’t ask questions, he’s more focused on competing a bit with his friends.

Tracker would be a bit… nervous about the idea. It’s weird in his mind- why would a person want to do that? And he can only assume it hurts, right? Which isn’t good. He’d talk to Barnacles about his concerns- knowing that the older man would understand.

Is Ranger Marsh an agent? Does he count? I think, so I’m adding him. He was still using his radio for communication when he was first introduced, he sure isn’t going to approve of the Wild Kratts morphing their bodies with tech to match a creature. He does not understand how it works in the slightest, so he avoids it like the plague.

Calico Jack, as you can imagine, is between his grandson’s excitement and Marsh’s confusion. He is a ball of static electricity, waving back and forth on his feet when he sees it in action. It’s cool! But also super weird- but cool! And he’s everywhere, leaning on Marsh to tell him fictive tales about how he experienced ‘camouflaging beasties’ on the high sea that altered their appearance to look more like humans (he hadn’t seen a human before coming to the Kratts’ world).

Ryla doesn’t have a set opinion. As long as it’s not hurting anyone, she approves and finds it fascinating. No one has told her the suits can malfunction (do not let her find it out).

(I am aware I’m missing like two of the Agents, but… I haven’t seen enough of them to label anything. Oh. And I didn’t include the younger ones like Pinto and Koshi, just for the sake I feel like they wouldn’t ever step into the Kratts’ universe.)

Dang do I love angst. Also, sorta in the process of having a Wild Kratts x WxS AU. I’m set on Aviva as Emu and Koki as Nene. As for Tsukasa and Rui, I keep debating which one Martin and Chris would fit better in. For now, I’m going with Chris as Tsukasa and Martin as Rui. Jimmy is mainly WxS KAITO but can switch between all the sekailoids depending on the song.

I also have a VBS AU in mind with mainly Aviva as Kohane and Koki as An.

Chris smells like the forest, woody, earthy, with all the force of an early spring monsoon. Green tea with milk and honey, dirt and sweat and the faint iron of blood from bruised knuckles and scraped knees and busted lips. The clean scent of the hand lotion he uses to desperately soothe the screaming calluses on his palms from climbing everything in sight that he swears is unscented. The quiet understanding and security of a library. Middle shelf liquor and willingly bloodying your knuckles for the ones you love. Spitting blood in the sink at 2am and praying no one sees it. The restless whispers on the wind of “let’s go”. The sharp scent of the middle of the night, right before it snows.

Chris Kratt smells like adventure.

Martin smells like the ocean; salty and sweet and inviting and dangerous all at the same time. Chocolate ice cream and vanilla lattes and a foraged meal in the middle of nowhere. He smells like the grace and patience and protectiveness that can only come with being an eldest sibling, the glue that holds everyone together. Dirt and sweat from the trail, the spray deodorant he only bought because it had a kraken on the label. Clean linen and little bits of everyone else, parts of his family rubbed off onto him from the constant hugs he offers. He smells like it’s his god given right to seize every day he’s given. He smells warm, like hot chocolate with extra marshmallows. Watching the sun set over a calm ocean, feeling safe.

Martin Kratt smells like home.

Aviva smells like lavender, fresh and wild. She smells like oil and metal and that fruity body spray she shares with Koki that the two insist on stocking up on whenever they’re in Germany. Black coffee and espresso shots and energy drinks, she smells like too much to do and not enough sleep. Gears turning and a fire burning in her belly, a desperate fight to make sure her hard work will one day pay off and her legacy will be remembered. Constantly striving to be better; a better inventor, a better friend, a better human. The same hand lotion Chris uses, but she is humble enough to admit that it smells like fresh cut grass. Pride and confidence and the skills to back them up.

Aviva Corcovado smells like innovation.

Koki smells like a wood stove, fiery and passionate. The fruity body spray she shares with Aviva, mixed with mocha lattes and the sweat of weightlifting. Hair oil and silken bonnets. The exhaust her computers spew out. Brown liquor and fried food. Hot maple syrup served at a diner with waffles and strawberry lip gloss. The scent of being unafraid to throw a punch when her family is in danger; never starting fights, but always ending them. She smells like getting the last laugh and blackmail and always having something on someone.

Koki smells like family.

Jimmy smells like freshly baked bread, warm and inviting. Hearty meals wafting from the kitchen, welcoming his loved ones inside to rest after a long day. The warmth of a wood stove. Old Spice deodorant and sickly sweet clouds of the best weed, which no one knows who he gets it from and he refuses to tell, but at least he’s willing to share. Stone washed denim and green apple shampoo and new converse sneakers and fearful curiosity. Skateboard decks and scraped knees and Neosporin and band-aids from one too many falls. He smells like talking your way out of a fight, immediately getting help when someone’s hurt. Chocolate covered kettle corn and movie nights and vanilla bean frappchinos.

Jimmy smells like togetherness.

New Episodes of Wild Kratts

Three new episodes of Wild Kratts will be airing in November of 2024. Salamander Streaming, Bumblezzz, and Chimpanzee and Me.

The synopsis for Bumblezz is yet to come, however we have plots for Salamander Streaming and Chimpanzee and Me.

Salamander Streaming - Airing Monday November 4th, 2024.

Mysteriously, the Tortuga shorts and powers down while the gang is streaming a movie. Koki says it won't be back today. What are they going to do? Chris and Martin announce they can still do streaming - salamander streaming! The rest of the gang wonders, what in the world is salamander streaming? The bros explain that salamander streaming is getting miniaturized and floating down a stream in tiny little boats looking for salamanders, of course! It's a race to find as many salamanders as they can while Koki tries to fix the Tortuga.

Pre-Episode Thoughts:

This was one of the episodes that the brothers announced at their live shows. I think that they will be focusing on tiger salamanders. Either way, I think it's gonna be cool that we might have a Salamander Power Suit.

WK's pop-culture references in the modern seasons are really hit and miss, but this is actually some good fucken wordplay with streaming.

If the Tortuga really is powered down, then will we actually see Salamander Power? Or is it gonna be like Mystery of the Squirmy Wormy where the brothers don't use any Power Suits? Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Chimpanzee and Me - Airing - Airing Wednesday, November 6th, 2024

The gang travels deep into Uganda's tropical forests to uncover the true nature of the chimpanzee, but Chris sprains his ankle at the most inopportune time and can't participate. He is sad and upset. It's the climbing adventure that he's always looked forward to most. He tries to hide his disappointment and gets support from his friends, but it is a young chimp who shows him how to truly make the best of a bad situation.

Pre-Episode Thoughts:

This was another episode that Martin had hinted at the live shows. What's funny is that 2D Martin also expressed the idea of heading into the African rainforests in Rattlesnake Crystal (an episode that IRL Martin wrote). Again, not sure why it took them almost a decade and a half to get to this, but I digress.

Goddamn we are getting a LOT of angst in S7. Between this, No Name Dream, and the most recent episode, A Fish Out of Water, we're getting more character-driven plots, (especially if you count Paisley's redemption in the special). And while this does seem to be similar to Flight of the Draco, this does seem to have an intereting twist. Chimpanzees have many abilities apart from climbing, such as intellect, empathy, craftiness, and communciation. Maybe Chris will discover that and eventually use those skills to rescue the chimpanzees and/or the gang from a bad situation later.

Also, baby chimps are really fucking cute. I so hope that Chris gets to name it in the episode.

I've debated with my friends on this, and I do hope that we see a Chimpanzee Suit.. but knowing how anatomically similar chimps are to humans, and given how uncanny the Power Suits in the modern seasons have been.... I very much wonder.

That being said, if there is gonna be a Chimp Suit, I wonder if Chris will be the one to invent it? Assuming that he's staying behind at the Tortuga throughout this episode and makes the observations, then it would make sense that he'd invent the suit. Martin invented the Ermine Power Disc back in Season 5, so maybe Chris could invent a Chimpanzee Suit. Part of me thinks it'll backfire just as horribly, but after the bullshit that was the Indri-Conda Suit, I'm willing to accept anything 😭😭
