Arguing with my dad over ai images is crazy because he keeps bringing up other advancements in technology, like light bulbs or live saving medical equipment and like??? art isn’t necessary like that??? And I don’t say that against art at all but if ai pumps out a million more shitty movies a year then people can that’s not going to improve anyone’s quality of life? No one even has time to watch all the movies that currently exist. We don’t NEED new art like that. I want new art because I like the artist or the story they have to tell or the actors in it or the human made animation style they spent real work on. I like my favorite artist drawings or my favorite writers writing because I like seeing how their personal experiences impact how their stories play out or how they depict what they make. I like the consistent details they add that clearly show their favorite aspects of the work. I like rough drafts and behind the scenes and processes and thoughts and actual fucking art.

I’m kind of really hating the new community thing on here. Like it didn’t seem bad at first, just a thing, but I’m getting sick of having posts from them coming up and not being able to interact with them unless I join the community. Like if I’m not a part of the community why is it showing me their posts? Idk if anyone else has had this peeve or if I’m missing something

I swear to god I don’t hate Aviva at all I love her I just needed someone to grate Chris’s nerves like sandpaper without being a hateable character or villain and everyone else in the crew already had their roles /j

CHAPTER 7 OF PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT.
Chapter name is Severing.
Issues are starting to arise among the tortuga crew and Chris’s problems are only getting worse.
(Chapter is doing that thing where it refuses to be a link on here so I just made it one.)

My answer to @fenkizard question: What Makes SydCarmy’s Relationship Interesting?
i’d love nothing more than to see SydCarmy just hanging out (imagine them watching Food Network together ah!) but the time they spend together cheffing it up doesn’t take away from the dynamic, it adds to it. cooking isn’t just SydCarmy’s profession, it’s their love language. cooking and the restaurant has made them spend quality time together, it’s allowed them to affirm one another, it’s an act of service, and it’s their gift. this is part of what makes SydCarmy’s relationship interesting.
they spend time in Carm’s apartment and they talk about what led to Syd’s business closing, how it felt for him to “receive the three star call”, what getting a star means to them. this isn’t just professionalism, they don’t have to open up and talk about these things while waiting for food to ferment. when Syd beats herself up because she didn’t get the recipe right, Carmy doesn’t have to affirm her that she’ll get it eventually. he doesn’t have to introduce “I’m sorry” in sign to their dynamic (impact of signing “sorry” here)
while cooking/the restaurant is their profession and the main backdrop of their interactions, it’s also their passion and it’s something they share. in S1Ep1 when Carmy is up against everyone in the kitchen wanting to maintain “the system”, and they are actively working against the progress Carmy is trying to implement, in comes Sydney. she knows of him and has respect for what he’s accomplished in their industry but they don’t actually know each other. yet, she’s a calm in this storm for Carmy because in many ways it’s like she understands him intrinsically.
using either Tina or Marcus as an example, the restaurant started off as just a job, whether or not they liked to cook before getting there, it was simply about making ends meet. until the SydCarmy dynamic enters the picture. because that’s not the case for Sydney or Carmy, it’s not just a job to pay the bills. SydCarmy’s love and passion for cooking has extended to everyone in the restaurant. Tina and Marcus worked there for years and sure maybe they liked their job but now bc of SydCarmy, they have a passion for it. it’s seeing SydCarmy’s passion for cooking that influences this.
for all the pain culinary environments have caused them, they truly love that shit and don’t want to trade it for anything. but they do want to improve it. and they want to do that together. their dynamic/interactions with this obviously needs work lol but it’s takes a level of trust and confidence in each other that surpasses basic professionalism to actualize that. they just need to find their footing

That’s really really interesting. I’m really curious about how you see him figuring out the dish being him figuring out Syd! It never occurred to me and I’m really curious what I might have missed about the implications of that situation. I’ve never fully figured where my opinion is on the whole jealousy thing but I love that she holds him accountable for his lack of commitment after promising it. I always thought the whole plates thing was more the principal of the situation. Like she could do it on her own but it was something they were supposed to do as a team and he needed to actually stick to what he said.
What you said makes me really interested in the fallout of one of them leaving the restaurant if it were to happen.
I beg of someone anyone please point out to me what makes the Sydney and Carmy relationship so interesting? I don’t even mean romantically but like just in any way that isn’t professional? I personally have my own idea of what it COULD be, like I think they have this amazing opportunity to learn from each others mistakes and learn how to better work with each other but I also feel like a lot of those opportunities, in my opinion, have just been skipped. And like their scenes don’t really give me the impression they’re personally close? I thought it was great when they were at the apartment going over dishes and cooking together but I really can’t think of much else? At least that’s positive and like a genuine bonding time that isn’t them trying to make some kind of important decision or just giving feedback.
Like this in comparison to what I can remember with Sydney and Tina or Sydney and Marcus. I really like watching Sydneys interactions with Tina because you can really see their relationship change and what they like about each other. And Sydney and Marcus have that time outside of the kitchen to talk and the moments inside it that really genuinely make them feel like they like each other. It feels like a friendship that would actually last outside of the kitchen.
My point is I can’t think of more than MAYBE a single time where Carmen and Sydney felt like they were even slightly actually close in a personal way. The table scene was really really sweet of course but it just feels like they’re business partners, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but again I beg what makes their relationship interesting outside of work.

I didn’t miss any of that and I don’t at all disagree that they’re very important to each other as work partners. And I think some of those things are what I was looking for, like the coffee, but I’m still thinking largely about how they get along outside of work. Even though neither really have much of a life outside work, I can still imagine them having relationships with other people outside of the restaurant. Because you’re 100 percent right about all of that but I’m still kind of curious what makes their relationship outside of that professional setting interesting. Because I’ve seen a lot of fan stuff that expresses interest in something other than their work relationship. Again not doubting that’s important, but it feels like if the bear were to close, they wouldn’t be a big part of eachother lives. Fr appreciate seeing ur thoughts on this though especially on the restaurant being a metaphor. Really cool take

"Two-headed boy With pulleys and weights Creating a radio play just for two..."
~Neutral Milk Hotel, Two-Headed Boy
"Brother, see, we are one and the same And you left with your head filled with flames And you watched as your brains Fell out through your teeth, push the pieces in place Make your smile sweet to see, don't you take this away I'm still wanting my face on your cheek"
~Neutral Milk Hotel, Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2
I want to run them both over with my car

i hope i'm not annoying you with these but i think i found another good song for your PI playlist: "In a Radio Song" by Okkervil River. all the lyrics in it make me think of Pi Chris but especially the last stanza
I rose from a dream; I had just destroyed everything With one crushing blow, And I woke up and watched it go, And I woke up and wagged my tongue. So long, so long, so long
Oh my god I just listening to it and it’s so insanely perfect???? Like those end lines HIT ME theyre so so fitting for pi Chris and genuinely capture the feeling I’m trying to convey in the story so well!!!!
This is absolutely never annoying! I love song recommendations so much and this is the second time now at least you’ve introduced me to a crazy good artist. tysmmm frrr
