My thoughts on the 28 Years Later trailer

It totally makes sense for the island community to revert to pre-industrial technology. As someone who lives in farming country, tractors are fricking LOUD. Sure the survivors are on an island but sound carries across the water and all the infected have to do is come by during low tide. Maybe they stopped using gas-powered stuff before the fuel ran out due to sound attracting the infected.

There are shots of soldiers with modern guns and armor. That's VERY important cuz it implies there's a munitions factory still up and running, meaning there's an infrastructure of sorts still around. It also implies that enough people got a heads-up about the virus so they fortified some areas. Also also, there's a chance the military has gone full authoritarian like in The Last of Us but I'm really tired of that trope so maybe not.

A lot of people are asking how the infected could survive 28 years if they're so angry that they don't eat or drink. The tie-in comics (which I read) explain that the virus spread out in ripples, starting in the south of England before spreading north and west. This meant that England was mostly devoid of infected by the events of 28 Weeks Later but Scotland would still have healthy infected. Not to mention that viruses evolve with each host they infect, so there's this HUGE chance that enough infected evolved to remember to eat and sleep then taught the others to eat and sleep. Hell, they might've evolved to reproduce so people are BORN infected.

Lastly, the "Bone Temple," the person with a mask, and "Jimmy." Jimmy is the silliest name for a cult leader/warlord. It's like Immortan Joe's name. Jimmy is probably a violent ruthless leader tho. As cool as the temple looks in the trailer, temples take a lot of people and time to build, implying that SOMEONE (maybe Jimmy) was able to do 1 of 3 things: control the infected, hold back the infected, or was able to speedrun a cult of personality. Assuming the infected evolved, maybe this Jimmy fella made a deal with Big Boss Infected to protect his group by sacrificing a set number of people every year in the Bone Temple. To put my tinfoil hat on, we can guess that the evolved infected created a new religion and build the temple for their own mystic reasons.

“I’m home,” you call out, haphazardly putting your keys back into your bag with one hand, the other cradling near your chest the mid-sized box you got from Sato’s shop earlier that day.

You’re careful not to mess up the pastry that sits inside it.

“Welcome home,” Bakugou’s gruff voice echoes from the direction of the kitchen, the sound of which immediately soothes the tension you didn’t know you held in your shoulders.

It’s been a long day, you think to yourself.

Excited to meet him after almost 24 hours of not seeing each other, you hurriedly toe off your shoes, noting to yourself to properly return them on the shoe rack later—lest your Katsuki nags your ear off again (affectionately).

“Hey,” you greet once more as you enter the room, cautiously placing the box on the table before striding towards him to wrap your arms around his middle.

He grunts in acknowledgment.

With your chin on his firm shoulder, you examine the impressive array of ingredients and some of your favorite dishes on the kitchen counter, as well as on the island behind you.

You decide to tease him.

“What’s all this for, babe?”

You can somehow feel more than see him side-eyeing you. “The fuck?”

As innocently as you can, you pipe up: “What?”

At your query, he shrugs himself from your hold and places the knife he was just using to expertly chop vegetables on the table before turning to face you, incredulous.

“Whaddya mean, ‘what’?” he huffs, before continuing. “Are you saying you forgot what day it is?”

You debate with yourself for a second whether or not to continue this ruse, ultimately deciding against it when you see the flash of hurt on Bakugou’s face.

Smiling, you reach out to hold his hands in yours.

He doesn’t shrug you off.

A frown still decorates his face, though.

“Of course I didn’t, babe,” you squeeze his hand for emphasis. “How could I?”

“You very much could, you know,” he says as a matter of factly, turning back to continue hacking on the green onions on the off-white chopping board. “You’ve barely been getting enough sleep with how hard you’ve been working. I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t know what month it is.”

You only grumble in response. He wasn’t wrong.

After a few seconds of staring at his backside, you sigh in defeat, spinning to step toward the kitchen island.

“Well, I got us something.”

“What,” he says more than asks, focus still directed towards slicing carrots now. You smile to yourself; you could practically hear the pout in his tone.

You tap on his shoulder, and at that, he finally turns to look at you, an eyebrow raised in question.

Immediately, his gaze lowers to the box that you’re currently holding, and a whirlwind of emotions dances across his face.

“...‘Happy 4th anniversary to us, champ’?”

Despite yourself, you snort. He shoots you a glare, though it has no bite to it.

You gesture to the cake you’re holding. “I didn’t include ‘I love you’ because I knew that would embarrass you around Sato the next time the class gets together.”

“Yet you decided to use this weird as fuck pet name?” he shakes his head, exasperated. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think his cheeks are turning pink. “Your dumbass making me sound like your kid.”

At that, you cackle, and a smirk manages to crack through the annoyed facade he’s trying to maintain.

You place the box back on the counter and step towards him again, coaxing the knife from his grip. You place it on the board before moving to circle your arms around his neck.

His hands automatically find their place on your hips.

You grin up at him.

“Well, you do call me mommy, sometimes.”

Now, you’re definitely not imagining the redness that’s creeping up on his face.

“Shut up,” he pokes at your side, and you can’t help the squeal that erupts from you.

After a moment of him tickling you and you frantically begging him to stop all the while gasping for air, he finally relents.

He’s still red in the neck when the air between you falls into a quiet lull.

You reach up to comb his hair back with your fingers, tiptoeing to press a kiss on his forehead. When you pull back, you see that his gaze has visibly softened, and he’s now looking at you with what you’ve long identified as adoration.

Longing, too.

Four years of being married, and it still knocks the wind out of your lungs.

“Happy anniversary, Kats,” you whisper, before looking around your shared kitchen that’s filled with testaments of the effort Bakugou puts into your relationship. “Thank you for doing this.”

“‘s no big deal,” he mumbles, dipping his head to rest on the crook of your neck. He says this despite everything else in the room telling you otherwise.

When he lifts his head back up, you shoot him a knowing look and he shoots you another right back.

One you know all too well.

One that says ‘You know what I mean. Don’t make me say it’.

Four years of being married, and the giddiness and pride of knowing Bakugou Katsuki this intimately still hit you like a truck.

“I love you,” you whisper again.

“Yeah, yeah,” he says dismissively, before dipping in to place a kiss on your forehead. “I love you, too, dumbass.”

PROLOGUE : THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

you let out a deep sigh, stretching your arms overhead as you looked around the small one-bedroom apartment that you were renting. the air was still and quiet, a contrast to the lively bustle of your old place. being in the middle of nowhere, it lacked the charm and familiarity you had once known. as you took a moment to absorb your surroundings, the reality of your new life began to settle in.

you had hung up most of your decor from your old place, crystals lining up on a shelf hanging next to your bed—your posters and tapestries making the bedroom feel at least slightly more homey.

a buzz broke the calmness as your phone vibrated on the bedside table beside you.  you picked it up, seeing a text from your soon-to-be boss.

you set your phone down once more after sending a quick reminder to update your cousin after work tomorrow. you felt grateful as you thought of shoko, the one who had introduced you to this opportunity. even though she was nearly seven years older, she had always been more than just a cousin, she was a close friend, a constant person in your life as you both grew up.

while walking to the small kitchen, you thought on the co-worker you would have. nanami mentioned he was around the same age as you, which was nice you supposed. still, a hint of anxiety tugged at you; making friends had never come easily.

you decided you would try your best, after all now that you were living in the countryside it would be harder to meet new people. honestly, you hadn’t had many friends in the city—if any at all. if shoko was here, she would tell you that you had to branch out of the small comfort zone you always found yourself living in.

after you ate, you went back to your bedroom, turning off the lights as a calming darkness took over the space. laying down in bed, you set an alarm for the next morning, then turning on some music and drifting to sleep.

You know what would be a funny au with the au of Bill and Ford being together and married and then with Stanley and Fiddleford married is that it turns out that both Bill and Ford LIKED Fiddleford, but both didn't know how to go about it.

Sure both noticed Fiddleford being a bit touchy with both, especially when Bill possessed Ford, but then when both acted indifferent that's when Fiddleford pulled away and acted like just a friend.

In enters Stanley who after being kicked out eventually became a mechanic and got to Gravity Falls at 28 yrs old for a job opportunity.

He and Fiddleford meet and Fiddleford doesn't see him as a Ford replacement, he sees him as his own person.

They date and then marry.

However, it's only after Bill and Ford go dimension hopping for fun and adventurous, occasionally going back to GF for a small visit not noticing

But just...decades later they finally talk after seeing Fiddleford and Stanley so happy and realize they fumbled so bad

The Story/Secret of Us

So I believe I may have just solved a major piece of the puzzle and finally figured out WHY the tortured poets have been sending us these anonymous messages to help us solve it. I think this entire rabbit hole is a gift to us true fans which is why we got all of those cryptic present 🎁 anon messages. Alllll of these songs are dedicated to us (except for So High School and I will explain why I think this in more detail later). THIS is The Story or Secret of Us. The "secret" is this rabbit hole of connections and this secret language or code of symbols and metaphors we've all learned how to speak (sunshine/daylight/gold/yellow = Karlie/being out of the closet/queer love/happiness, 3 = Speak Now, orange = karma, etc). The "us" is the tortured poets and us true fans who share this secret language.

Another important part of understanding this puzzle is that some of these songs are time sensitive 🕰️ and like a prophecy (The Prophecy) waiting to be fulfilled. So after a certain point, some songs can no longer be applied bc that "scene" in the movie has already passed (If This Was A Movie). They want us to essentially play our part in the story they've written. Right now we are playing the part of Paul Revere or Cassandra warning swifties of what's coming (likely on Sept 28). And we're also acting as Taylor's wings/angels catching her when she falls off her pedestal (see this post). They want us to think of these moments when we listen to these songs bc they want them to be personally relatable bc that's part of our gift. I think this is what Taylor meant when she said

"Let me tell you my secret little dream for this evening. These are songs that I have written about my life or things I've felt at one point in time, whether I was a teenager, in my 20s, or a couple yrs ago. But after tonight when you hear these songs out and about in the world, my dream is that you're gonna think about tonight and the memories we made here together" (x)

and what present anon meant when they said

"Reach those lanterns a little bit higher. For you shall receive a metaphor so dire" (x).

"Then the actors (us true fans and the tortured poets) were hitting their marks and the slow dance was alight with the sparks and the tears fell in synchronicity with the score" // "It's a normal thing to fall in love with movie stars when the lights are low and red at all their favorite bars. And the story you want is the story you get. Are you special or was this all scripted in his head?...Don't worry, I know I'll see you again. Uh-huh, you'll make me cry when it comes to an end. You were all that we hoped (The Prophecy), but I can't recommend getting close, I should've known, but I'll see you again" (x). The tortured poets have invited us to "dance" with them by being a part of this movie. If we accept this invitation, then we essentially become the muse of these songs.

I think Gracie playing In Between as a surprise song on 9/19 was an easter egg for Lizzy’s song Pushing It Down and Praying that was released 9/20. I think the mv for this song is the visual representation of the 🫚 message about the audience member (us true fans) becoming a part of the magic show and also the teenage love triangle in folklore. In this story, we are playing the character Wendy/Betty while the tortured poets play the character Peter/James. Swifties or the fans who don’t see this metaphorical story are Augusta/Augustine, the girl that James cheats on Betty with in august. So even though the teenage love triangle is technically fictional, there are seeds of truth in it. This is what Taylor was trying to explain during the eras tour betty speeches when she said she created these fictional characters and she was acting as the narrator of their story (x). Role Model, who stars in the Pushing It Down and Praying mv, is also the opening act for Gracie's TSOU tour which is another connection.

And to add even more evidence to this theory, the teenage love triangle also makes an appearance in Gracie’s discography. Gracie has a song called Augusta on TIWIFL which just so happens to be the name of one of the characters in the love triangle. It is also the name of a town in Maine which is where Gracie’s family is from. There are 3 songs in total on TIWIFL that are named after towns in Maine—Camden, Augusta, and Rockland. If you put the first letters of these songs together, they spell out “CAR.” “Standing in your CARdigan, kissing in my CAR again,” “And when I felt like I was an old CARdigan under someone’s bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite," 2:46 in betty ("She said 'James, get in, let's drive'") corresponding with 2:46 in august ("Remember when I pulled up and said get in the CAR").

august, betty, cardigan (the 3 sides or perspectives of the love triangle) are “ABC” bc the alphabet or capital letters are one of the major keys to solving this puzzle. As I mentioned in this post, I think Audrey has been helping to plant easter eggs. She posted Capital Letters by Hailee Steinfeld on her insta 3 times which is quite interesting and she also included this song in her Summa playlist.

What makes this even more suspicious is that she specifically chose timestamps in the songs (1:11 and 1:23) that have these lyrics ⬇️ and she posted the 1:11 timestamp TWICE which indicates that she really wanted to emphasize it. "God I'm jumping in the deep end, it's more fun to swim in. Heard the risk is drowning but I'm gonna take it."

Another thing that I think ties in with all of this is the Stephen Colbert interview. In this post below, I explain why I think the pizza on the mood board represents PR/bearding/showmanship/magic. I also explain how the letters that spell out Stephen's name are a huge clue and are related to the Peter Pan metaphor that is a through line in both Gracie's and Taylor's music. This is another example of "capital letters" or the alphabet being the key to solving the puzzle.

Going back to what I said in the first paragraph, this entire rabbit hole of cross-referenceable songs is dedicated to us except for the "pizza" So High School which is the one song she dedicated to 🏈 This is why Taylor's mood board had one slice of pizza while every other picture was of Stephen.

Frieren Timeline/Pacing

(Manga Spoilers at the very bottom)

Rewatching Frieren made me realize just how much thought the writer put into the pacing and timeline.

It feels like a slow-paced anime, but also time passes by really quick? Like the first episode literally shows a 50 year time skip? But is this really true?

50 years, 20 years, 4 years, 2 years, 6 months, about a year, around another year, 6 months,(Story Starts), 6 months, 2 months, 3-4 months.

Notice anything?

These are the timeskips/timelapses in the timeline. And as Frieren learns more about humans and learns to appreciate the present, the gaps get smaller and smaller, with the everyday being elaborated on more.

Now maybe that's not on purpose, but it certainly seems like it is. The thought and care to create such a subtle way to show Frieren's growth and understanding and appreciation of the NOW - all the while still reminding us of how old she is and how these years really aren't all that long to her in the grand scheme of things? Beautiful.

Expanded Timeline Given Below:

The first episode (1st manga chapter) starts with first a 50 year timelapse (Himmel dies at the end of this), and then a 20 year timeskip, before we end with Frieren deciding to stay with Heiter to translate a grimoire even though it could take 5 or 6 years (barely any time at all for Frieren- over a 1000 yr old elf)

The next episode (chapter-2) starts after a 4 year timelapse (24 years after Himmel's death) to reach a point where we see Fern's progress on learning magic and also the deterioration of Heiter's health. Heiter dies and then there is a 2 year timeskip (26 years after Himmel's death) until we come across our first 'quest' (chapter-3) that we see Frieren and Fern undertake - the search for the blue moon weed flowers. There is a 6 month timelapse before Fern decides 'this is taking too long' and tells Frieren that she thinks its time to pack up and move on - they end up finding the blue mood weed right after that conversation.

The third episode (chapters-4 and 5) is set another year later (27 years after Himmel's death), and the 4th episode a year after that (28 years after Himmel's death) We spend 6 months of this year cleaning up a ship wreck (Episode 4, Chapter - 6)

This is where the present day storyline properly starts - 28 years after Himmel's death -with our party finding out about Aureole (Episode 4, Chapter-7) and picking up another member (Stark) (Episode-6, Chapter-10/11) as they head north.

After that its all small timeskips as we join the party on their 'quests' as they head north.

The next biggest one is when they are stuck in a blizzard for 6 months near the Schwer mountain range and so cannot move ahead. This is in the 2nd half of episode 11 (Chapter-24).

After this timeskip we find out it is now 29 years since Himmel died.

Again small timeskips (in days or weeks - normal for an anime) as we get to Ausserst (during which we meet Sein, spend a few weeks in his village, travel a bit, and then get stuck in a village for a month due to a snow storm - no major time skips here by the way), then 2 months timeskip between reaching Ausserst and writing the First Class Mage exam. (Episode 18 and Chapter 37).

The anime ends after the mage exam alongside Chapter- 60 of the manga. Keep in mind this is still 29 years since Himmel's died.

**Manga Spoilers Ahead**

We don't hit 30 years from Himmel's death until Chapter 70, and 31 years until Chapter - 105. There's a timeskip of a few months where they live outside Weiss with Denken, as Frieren analyzes a curse, and they deal with defeating a demon (Macht Arc - Chapter- 81 to 104), but you get the point.

The manga currently is on 31 years after Himmel's death. (Chapter-134 is the latest as of writing this)

i love mary but legitimately the way the fandom babies her makes it really hard to read meta about her so ty for not babying her

you're welcome<3 like we can love her / sympathize with her without going "uwu 28 yr old minor. she's just a girl blah blah blah". like she's been an adult for a full decade. she is the mother of two children that she chose to have. being a hunter's kid she's also been independent and self-sufficient for a long time. she's not a delicate wilting flower. also, a 28 yr old in the 70s was not like what 28 yr olds now are like. i feel like nowadays 20 yrs olds are babied way more and just treated like Teen Plus+ by a lot of people. And especially since it's more normal now to have kids much later, people having kids in their 20s are seen as very young. But in mary's generation it was very much the norm to have most of your kids in your 20s - early 30s. And no one was treating a mother of two in her late 20s as a child.

4 years ago, I was go go go & stopped my ADHD meds I had been taking for 20 yrs (this ain’t about that tho they were masking this) I was diagnosed with, so far, 28 chronic illnesses, autoimmune disorders/diseases, pain conditions & syndromes. I had to learn how to take care of myself in a whole new way. Rest became aomething to prize rather than push aside. Still don’t know how. Sleep? Insomnia. ADHD? Can’t sit still. I’m learning. I’m trying. It’s hard to learn how to rest your body. So hard. Life gets in the way. Pain gets in the way. Imposter syndrome gets in the way. Boy does it ever. That one really gets you. 4+ year later and that one is still strong. I still haven’t wrapped my mind around the fact that I’m disabled. And when I think I have, I feel like I’m being lazy or giving up. And I know that’s ableist. It’s ingrained and it’s so hard to scrub out of me.

I grew up learning that unless you just got run over by a dump truck, you get you ass up and get moving. Broken leg? Drag it behind you? Lol Throw it over your shoulder lol My Mom would keep going no matter what. You have to strap her down to get her to stop cleaning or cooking or doing something. I’m the same way. ADHD is hereditary. (The autism is from Dad I think.) So now I get to try and figure out how to force myself to wrangle this feeling of a million bees inside a locked metal box to stop buzzing long enough so I can watch a movie or read a book or take a nap without getting so weirded out or uncomfortable that I get up and go dopamine searching. Again. Which keeps me awake. And moving. A sore. And not resting. Ugh.

I only ever took Dexadrine as my med which I’m realizing may have been the wrong med cuz all it did was make me go go go go go even more. It never quieted my mind like so many ppl talk about their meds doing. I’d love to feel that. I mean, if I’m already zipping around the apartment, what if I learn how to ‘harness’ it properly? I don’t want the hyperfocus unless I can turn it to art or something stationary so that’ll have to be something I redirect it to forcefully maybe. But maybe trying Vyvanse might be worth it if it stops the buzzing bees and the loud talking cuz honestly, I’d fxcking cry. 50 years of thinking I was insane.

Then 3 years ago, TikToks come out and ppl are talking about inner monologues that never quit and I was omg that’s me! I thought I was crazy! I never told anyone cuz I figured everyone dealt with it and just no one talked about it, so I never talked about it! But not everyone has this!? It was a lot to realize that ppl got to walk around and NOT have to deal with it and just be blessed with a quiet mind. I was bitterly jealous. I still am when I think about it too much. That why I think taking Vyvanse may be worth it. It can’t hurt right? I take enough meds already which is why I weight taking any new meds seriously. K. I think talking about it like this has made up my mind. I’ll be asking my psych to try putting me on it after the new year so we can see.
