Stream Star Trek: Prodigy seasons I & II on netflix; the creators originally had a 5 season arc for the show and its in serious danger of being cancelled. I know there's a lot going on in the world and this doesn't really matter, but I adore this show--that's all :))))))

As a 100% devoted evangelist of The Batman (2022) I was duty bound to give The Penguin a watch. Despite my low expectations for spin-offs generally even with the plus of Matt Reeves’ continued involvement in the series I’m happy to say that I enjoyed Episode One a lot. Felt genuinely like DC’s version of the Netflix Daredevil series only with a minuscule booster shot of added levity. No significant spoilers btw:
My absolute favorite moment of the show and how I knew that showrunner Lauren LeFranc & her fellow creatives truly were onto something is the encounter Oz has with Falcone Jr. in the pre-title scene. Beyond just being an excellent hook for the show, IMO it was also a fantastic display of what makes The Penguin specifically a villain who firmly belongs in Batman’s rogues gallery outside of simply his penguin/avian gimmick as well as cutting to the heart of why he isn’t to be categorized as just one more generic mobster in the gnarled web of Gotham’s crime families; something which Batman Caped Crusader & Batman Audio Adventures tapped into recently as well. The scene along with the glimpse of his home life & familial relationships we get later in the episode shows how when you get right down to it, The Penguin is at his best when he is portrayed as having more in common with the villains at Arkham Asylum than with the garden variety members of the criminal underworld. Just like with how Daredevil highlights why Fisk is a different kind of gangster, The Penguin’s first episode shows how standard gangsters who underestimate him & pigeonhole him as just another mob earner with no teeth only makes them vulnerable to the “real Oswald”. That’s also why the character who they set up as his season long foil/obstacle works in giving The Penguin an opponent worth fearing who isn’t The Batman.
I also shouldn’t fail to mention that Colin Farrell once again truly cooks & absolutely disappears into his role & is once again surrounded by a suite of terrific actors matching his earnestness & talent beat for beat.
Overall, I definitely recommend at least this first episode to any Batman fan especially if you loved The Batman (2022) & Matt Reeves’ vision for the character, world and franchise.
My only worry is that similar to Netflix’s Daredevil, the amount of episodes coupled with the length of each might bloat the series a bit and harm the pacing. Though with the DCEU’s different priorities in the Gunn Era compared to the MCU it might not end up as an issue & the show might end up being better paced & worth the episode count. Relatedly, my only gripe is just general annoyance at our collective return to weekly episode releases for shows instead of binging but I’m not an expert in TV marketing & production so maybe weekly releases are truly a better boost for audience numbers, retention & growth than bingeable releases have been.

Agatha All Along - season 1 (2024) review
Tumblr media
Down down, down the road, down the Witches Road…
Plot: A spell-bound Agatha Harkness regains freedom thanks to a teen's help. Intrigued by his plea, she embarks on the Witches' Road trials to reclaim her powers and discover the teen's motivations.
I’m not going to waffle about my complaints with the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’ve already rambled on a substantial amount in my previous reviews regarding this subject matter, so let’s leave it at the fact that my opinion and thoughts have not changed. That being said, WandaVision was one of the few enjoyable projects in the post-Endgame MCU era, as it had that original and unique flavour with messing with different television formats, and additionally was interesting in how that show explored the effects of trauma and grief. Naturally due to its success, Disney being Disney and Marvel being Marvel meant a sequel or a spin-off was inevitable. In this case it’s Agatha Harkness, who was played with a lot of funky energy by Kathryn Hahn in WandaVision. As enjoyable as she was, I never considered her to need her own show. I guess really anyone can get their own Disney+ series these days!
Kathryn Hahn is the primary reason to watch Agatha All Along. She’s as enjoyable as ever, cackling and wincing her way through each episode, and it was entertaining to constantly question her moral code, if she’s a villain or if she was turning to the good side. Hahn is great, and I am so glad she’s getting the recognition snd good roles now. As for other cast members, they are okay. Joe Locke as the teen came off a little pretentious, and Patti LuPone was the only witch I actually cared about. Aubrey Plaza as the mysterious Rio ends up being exactly what you expect her to be, and though Plaza nails the sarcasm, it’s nothing you haven’t seen her do before.
In regard to the series’ style, it’s really campy. The trailers in my opinion promised more horror aspects which were not present in the final product, but my main complaint is with the show’s look. It feels cheap. From the costumes to the sets, the whole thing is reminiscent of a CW or SyFy show, and you can tell Disney is probably tightening their budgets following the backlash of recent releases. But with something like Marvel you still expect to see something of visually interesting style, especially as they are sourcing a lot of narratives from comics and graphic novels, which one would assume would inspire more colourful and memorable set pieces. Unfortunately this show doesn’t offer any of that. The best you get is some rip-off witch costumes from other Disney projects, which I felt was more so for Disney to show-off how much Hollywood they own.
As for the narrative, for the most part this show is dull. It’s a very repetitive concept where in every episode our witches take on yet another trial, and though some trials do stand out more than others (episode 7 where a character time-jumps using tarot cards was particularly memorable) as a combined package it meant that catching up every week with a new episode was at times a chore. The other infuriating factor was the endless foreshadowing. This show consistently would bash you over the head with clues of what’s to come, but the clues were so predictable that when the reveals finally did pay-off they were not surprising even remotely. Reminded me a little of that Walk Hard segment where the kid says “ain’t nothing bad gonna happen today” only for him to get spliced in two 5 minutes later.
Superhero fatigue is real everyone! It’s happening! I’m kidding of course, I’m still holding out hope that Marvel and DC will get back to their former glory, but evidently there is still a long ways to go. Agatha All Along didn’t do it for me, however I do admit that Witches Road song is a banger and has been stuck in my head ever since!
Overall score: 4/10

People saying "Don't boycott Eurovision or Israel will win!!" - they already won the second they got past the semifinals. Israel is going to be the winner of this year, especially with the way things are going down at the moment.
You wanted Israel to not win? You guys should've made sure they didn't get to the finals to begin with- though I wouldn't doubt EBU would've changed some votes or pulled some bullshit to add Israel in the finals regardless of making it or not.

'...Present Laughter
Also recently added to NT At Home is a Noël Coward revival driven by Andrew Scott’s luminously large-scale performance as the preening actor Garry Essendine. He is panache incarnate in an Old Vic production with added hints of bisexuality and tremendous supporting turns from, among others, Indira Varma, Sophie Thompson and (soon to be the RSC’s new Hamlet) Luke Thallon. ntathome.com...'

Tumblr media
wrow hi guys! sorry it took me so long to get back to these again, I had some more free time open up between doing d&d campaign things and submitting applications! let's see what we have
Tumblr media
MWAH. another FPC classic LOL. surprised this did not make my top 5 tbh. this song was half the reason I built a d&d character the way I did, but also worked pretty well for my new mcrp character Haunt! they're a hero of the wilds origin knight who is mostly a sentient suit of armor. at least. that's what they say if pressed >:3 featuring also a character of a friend of mine!! haunt and xylem get pretty close in the events proceeding the server, so take a little bit of exposition about them and haunt's past! (851 words)
“Have you ever been scared?”
Haunt smears sealing wax onto the recently fixed drape of chainmail over their knee. It jingles tunelessly against their leg, metal against metal greave as they pause for a moment, gloved hands stained, slightly glossy in the sun.
“Of course, I’m scared constantly,” they hum flatly. From in front of them, a few feet away, Xylem snorts. He tips his head back in that signature way that implies, more than anything else, that the sardonic response Haunt’s just threw at him as a knee-jerk reaction isn’t really the answer he was looking for. He frowns a little at them, the soft features of his face pinching in a way Haunt has learned to read. It’s a serious question. Haunt didn’t lie—their answer was as serious as the question. Something else, though, hangs slightly with the rest of his question, like a scale balancing.
Terrified? Scared to death? Scared of death? Haunt, have you ever been really, really scared?
Haunt takes in a breath. Sometimes they forget they need to be doing that.
“One time,” they start, hands returning to the familiar chainmail. “At least one time.”
They don’t need to look up to know that Xylem is pinning them with a look that ushers them to go on.
Like stepping into a dream, the pure-white sand of the colosseum spread out before them, below them, as they looked out of their room and into the empty pit below, like a mouth, the rows of empty seats like teeth, like a beast. The colosseum was a beast Haunt alone had learned to tame—or, not tame, per se, but cohabitate with, cosign wins and losses alongside. The seats would be full today, and every voice would ring out their gifted name—the man with no face, no name, nothing to lose.
Haunt. The Ghost of the Colosseum Floor.
Their boots made dull prints in the sand as they stepped into a blinding array of lights, fading to slats inside their helmet as they shut the visor, obscuring the colorful arrangement. The world dulled only slightly as they made their way toward the center of the ring. It was a usual pattern, for a usual fight, for a usual day, and Haunt felt something familiar, and confident, and proud weasel up in their chest as bits of cloth and petals scattered at their feet, as their name reverberated through the crowd in waves. They turned slowly in the sand, the weight of the world resting at the crest of their shoulders, stretching and twisting as they pulled their sword, Requiem, free of its scabbard. The sound of metal rang out across the empty field. They dragged their gauntlet-clad palm over the blade’s fine edge, and the enchantments across the silver-black metal shimmered in time with their own armor—two, pointed, dog like ears curving back from their temples and the sharp, imposing visor over chestplate, pauldrons, deep red cape. A knight, glittering in the sun, soaking praise.
If Haunt had not caught the flicker of movement, they would have been swallowed alive in that moment.
They turned. Their eyes widened as if it would do anything to help understand the shape that scrambled toward them, snarling and angry and teeth as large as their forearm, twice as wide. The breath they tried to take caught hard in their throat as they scrambled forward, boots hitting packed sand and dust as they pushed themselves. The creature made no move to stop. Its feet raised clouds of dust as Haunt gasped for breath, trying for useless cover in an empty field. Their heart beat frantic against the base of their throat. What a horrible, painful respawn this would be. Blood on the colosseum floor. First kill, and it was them.
But not today.
They slammed their heel into the ground. The jolt nearly cracked their ankle as they whipped around on their own axis, Requiem still heavy in their hand. In one, jerking, shaking motion, they swung the blade back behind their head, and straight up. The beast slammed into them full force.
As their blade caught buckling resistance, it parted flesh, and blood, and bone, as they were shoved backwards, nearly crashing to the ground, knee buckling as it hit the earth. Haunt skidded several feet as their blade caught the creature’s pelvis and refused to give further. It sunk against the blade with no movement, its guts spooling like yarn. Gore splattered their armor as they yanked free of the massive shape and hit the ground, scrambling back, seeing stars.
Haunt wasn’t sure if they could vomit, but maybe in that moment, whatever crawled up their throat was almost bile. They tried to blink back the vignette of their vision as they stood, shoving Requiem into the nearly-solid earth below them to stand. As they did, they removed the blade, drew their hand across the side to pull gore from its surface. Flicked off the blood. The crowd roared. They spun the sword in their palm, blood still dripping from their helm.
The prickle against the back of their neck told them this wasn’t over.
Not yet.

The whole thing about theater kids singing out loud in a movie theater to the Wicked movie and getting mad about people criticizing them about it is just so telling about where people are mentally these days.
Them telling people to ' just stream it' and openly having no basic respect for the audience and the performers is such an ironic response for a theater kid to have.
There's literally going to be a sing-along event that is happening on Christmas so just wait until then stop disrespecting other people and basic movie etiquette. It's not hard.
It's not about ' not letting people have their fun' it's about being a basically good and thoughtful human being.
It's not about you.
