Words can't describe how much I miss the Reyes Family from Blue Beetle. I've watched nearly every single superhero movie DC and Marvel have put out over the years and yet, not a single supporting cast in any of these superhero movies has resonated like the Reyes Family. DC or Angel Manuel Soto truly killed it not only with the casting of each Reyes Family but the writing for them as well. The Reyes Family truly felt like the most beautifully human characters ever thrown into a superhero's origin story and it's amazing just how memorable each member is. From Uncle Rudy to Milagro to Jaime himself, they each stood out for different reasons and I'd do almost anything to see them again in the next Blue Beetle-related DCU project.

* further clarification: Things that occurred in the DCEU could also have occurred in the DCU timeline. It’ll be up to Gunn’s discretion of course. For example, he could say a version of Peacemaker season 1 occurred in the DCU, which is similar to how the season played out in the DCEU. If this is confusing to think about, imagine that there are two parallel universes that closely resemble each other. Only minuscule details have been changed. So two versions of Peacemaker season 1 exists.

THE MARVELS (2023) GRADE: D
Definitely forgettable. Not s strong idea to introduce TV char's. She deserved her own storyline. Huge drop-off from the 1st movie. No idea why they will tie in a Disney show so heavily sowed into the script.

I love this film and would recommend it! It’s my second favorite animated film of the year, and I’ve seen it twice so far. It has an amazing soundtrack, a cool animation style, excellent humor, likable characters, and an excellent cast. I love that it feels authentically Gen Z (it’s the first film that I know of to use the word “rizz”) because Seth Rogen and the rest of the creative team really let the teen actors improvise, be themselves, and have fun. This gives the turtles incredible chemistry and makes them really seem like brothers. Also, this film once again proves that it’s the year of Ayo Edebiri.

Plenty of movie pick ups this week! We picked up Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (aka Aquaman 2) on 4K as well as the somewhat highly sought after James Cameron rereleases of True Lies and The Abyss on 4K which from what I hear they are in short supply being Disney underestimated the demand for them. I was lucky being I got the last one of each locally. Also one thing that is awesome is The Abyss comes with both the Theatrical and the Special Edition. and finally we picked up Disney's Wish but only on regular Blu-ray from what I know the 4K version isn't being sold in Canada? if its going to be a Walmart Exclusive that should mean ALL Walmarts not just the ones in the States. So I ended up getting it on just regular Blu-ray so in general I'm pretty happy with everything.

I can't emphasize this enough if we want more movies like Blue Beetle or more shows like Ms. Marvel that represent massive cultures to continuously be created for this genre of entertainment, the superhero fandom needs to step up now more than ever. Support Blue Beetle, support The Marvels, and support whatever projects continue to come our way in this amazing and very entertaining genre of entertainment. We need to be better and we need to do better so young kids who are Hispanic or from any other massive culture across this gigantic world, can fall in love with the superhero genre because they see themselves in a character like Blue Beetle.

My Review for Blue Beetle
Blue Beetle is a breath of fresh air in the superhero genre, mixing action, heart, and just the right amount of social commentary. It’s not just another “guy finds a super suit” story—it’s about family, identity, and a young hero trying to protect his own in a world that’s stacked against him.
Jaime Reyes is a recent college grad who stumbles upon an alien artifact called the Scarab, which bonds to him and grants him an incredible, but unpredictable, exosuit. Suddenly, he’s not just trying to find a job—he’s fighting to keep his family safe from those who want the Scarab’s power for themselves.
Director Ángel Manuel Soto brings real heart to the film, balancing high-energy superheroics with a grounded look at Jaime Reyes’ working-class struggles. Xolo Maridueña is effortlessly charming as Jaime, making us root for him from the start as he stumbles through his newfound powers. And George Lopez? Absolutely steals scenes as the hilarious, conspiracy-loving uncle. It's not just about a hero in a suit; it's about the hero's journey to protect and uplift his community.
With Blue Beetle, DC proves it still has fresh stories to tell. It’s fun, heartfelt, and packed with enough love for the character to make comic fans smile. If this is the future of DC movies, sign me up.
