Comparing 2015 OC art to 2023 OC art
I'm kind of just doing this so I can see the difference, but y'all can look too if you want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Angsty 2015 vampire OCs (The Berardi brothers). I'd been writing stories about these guys since 2013 but was still working out what I wanted them to look like. Originally only Pascal (the youngest) and Antioco (the oldest) had names, but in my melodramatic teenage scrawling I named more of them and decided that, one day, there would be one hundred vampires in this family...
And so in 2023, I made teenage Gracie proud and drew/came up with backstories for 100 vampires (they're half-vampires now though).
Most of these guys aren't around in the "main timeline" of my oc universe, but there's more than enough art and story on my laptop set in the aptly named "Berardi Timeline" when they were all still alive.
The surviving ones are this bunch here, my lovely boys~
Yeah, I think I can see some improvement in my art. 😂 Hopefully, by the end of 2024, I can look back and see even more!
One day I swear I'll get down to business and write an actual story about one or more of my 600+ OCs, buuuut... not today. Rimworld go brrrrrrrr
#gracie's ocs#art#my art#traditional art#original characters#the Berardi timeline#2015-2023 art comparison#I think teenage Gracie would be proud of me#apologies to those of you who followed me for rimworld content lol#Y'all gotta put up with my cringe ocs from highschool every now and again#They might be cringey#But by god did I have fun drawing them#I love them all so much#I think everyone needs comfort ocs#Maybe not 100 of them but you know#the more the merrier#Have a great day everyone! I love you <3 <3

🎓𝑨𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, Harry and Meghan were *𝑵𝑶𝑻* amongst the lineup of celebrity commencement speakers this year 🎓
Dear Sinners,
Another graduation season has come and gone 🎓 And once again, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were missing from the lineup of notable 2024 commencement speakers. If I remember correctly, the only so-called "graduation speech" Meghan has given was this bizarre unsolicited "graduation speech" she released to the media in 2020 👀
Here's a list of some of H&M's "famous friends" who have given commencement speeches over the years. These are individuals who have participated in ARO, Archetypes, and/or 40x40:
📌ARO:
John Legend (singer, songwriter, producer, EGOT winner) - Loyola Marymount University, 2024. John has given many commencement speeches over the years and is also the recipient of three (3) honorary doctorate degrees as well. His wife and ARO jam recipient, Chrissy Teigen however, has not given any commencement speeches nor received any honorary degrees
Mindy Kaling (actress & comedian) - Dartmouth University, 2018
Tracee Ellis Ross (actress, daughter of Diana Ross) - Spelman College, 2023
source 1 // source 2
📌Archetypes podcast guests:
Mindy Kaling (actress & comedian) - Dartmouth University, 2018
Mellody Hobson (President and co-CEO of $14.9B Ariel Investments, Chairwoman of Starbucks Corporation, wife of George Lucas) - University of Southern California, 2015
Serena Williams 🏆- Graduating Class of 2020
Trevor Noah (S. African comedian) - Princeton University, 2021
source
📌 40x40 Participants:
Deepak Chopra (author and alternative medicine advocate) - University of Southern California, 2017
Hillary Clinton (politician, wife of former US President Bill Clinton) - At age 21, Hillary famous delivered her Wellesley 1969 commencement speech. She returned to her alma mater in 2017 to deliver another commencement speech
Katie Couric (journalist) - UMass Medical School, 2017 most recently. Katie has given many commencement speeches over the years
Kerry Washington (actress) - George Washington University, 2013. Kerry also received an honorary Doctorate degree
source 1 // source 2 // source 3
📌 Friends:
Ellen DeGeneres - Tulane University, 2009
Gayle King - University of Maryland, 2023
Gloria Steinem - M's bestie "Glo" has given many commencement speeches over the decades. Perhaps her most famous was at Tufts University, 1987
Oprah Winfrey - Oprah has given dozens of commencement speeches and has also received numerous honorary degrees over the decades
📌 Bonus:
Actress Kathryn Hahn - As an interesting comparison to Meghan: Kathryn is an respected and accomplished actress, you may recognize her from Parks & Recreation, WandaVision, and Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse (IMDb). TIL that like Meghan, Kathryn is a Northwestern alumni. This year, Kathryn gave the commencement speech at Northwestern University. Northwestern also gave Kathryn, along with three other accomplished alumni [*not* named Meghan Markle], honorary Doctor of Arts degrees
👉 Why hasn't Northwestern invited Meghan Markle to give a commencement speech?
👉 Why hasn't Northwestern given Meghan Markle an honorary degree?
📌 Notes:
In 2020, H&M signed with the esteemed NY-based Harry Walker Agency. Here is Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex's profile page. (I could not find a profile page for Harry.) This is the same high powered agency that also represents the Clintons, the Obamas, John Legend, and many others for speaking engagements. At the time, it was widely reported that H&M could charge up to $1M per speech!
🤑 Where did all of H&M's dream$ of making million$ of dollar$ by giving word $alad $peeche$ go? 🤑

alsooooooo i haven’t done one of these in a while, so i wanted to do a “9 years of yuuya drawing” comparison under the cut! maybe i’ll do one of these for other characters too later....... but they won’t go back as far to 2015 because yuuya was my First Love...
2015: very early digital art era.... did not really understand how layers and coloring worked.... i also think this was drawn on firealpaca?? or maybe sai. one of those
2016: got my own digital tablet!
2017: big year of drawing... discovered the watercolor brush on sai and then went wild with blending colors everywhere
2018: lots of practice and experimentation with colors. started making merch. but clearly i was still drawing a lot of “anime character at a 3/4 angle facing left” LMAO
2019: less drawing happened this year. decided to go simpler with coloring, but i think lines/style improved.
2020: no yuuya example for this year... i did do a couple yuuya doodles (and 1 yuuya commission) but mostly did other big drawing projects and so the yuuya drawing got put to the wayside : (
2021: no more fancy coloring here! but lines and style are probably better??
2022: went through my egg yuuya phase
2023: lines are better i think!
#my art#yun talks#i guess we can see that my art really solidified into its current state in 2019#and i had a brief experimental phase with coloring and then decided that coloring is too much work and i should just stay simple LOL

Farmer 2 is another character I've kept since.... the start. Her name is Yahra! She's Hebe's younger sister... the cutest ❤🤲
She was always freakishly strong... hrm in current lore she'd admire Alope bc Alope cannot put her muscles away. Too bad her sister hates Alope for... some reason.
Anyway: 2023 vs 2016.......
CRYING.... THE CHEEB WAS ONE OF MY FIRST DIGITAL ARTWORKS. BUT OUR OTHER COMPARISON OPTION US LITERALLY A CRYPTID ...
BLURRY 2015 ART

So I was looking at my super old tumblr blog and stumbled upon this ask from January 2015
Which is really lovely but also great foreshadowing because it turned out 2015 was the year I greatly improved my art. Like, this comparison is February vs. October of the same year.
And then fast forward to 2023, and this is how I currently draw Ian:
#using Ian as an example#because he’s the guy anon mentioned#anyway moral of the story is never give up etc#Ian#also context for the first picture my ocs used to be in high school but I just age them as I get older

just wanted to share a few comparisons to show how my digital painting skills have developed over the years!
(these were all done with the same brush type on the same program btw!)
see below for a mini kinda Art Advice post where i go into each of these comparisons!
wanna start by saying the brush i used for all these pieces is the 'watercolour' brush on firealpaca... essentially just a default flat brush that usually comes with most software!
the first two are to show unintentional messiness vs intentional messiness. a lot of my early art had a pretty messy quality to it purely because i was still unfamiliar with the mechanics of digital! (though i will say, i think i was going for a more painter-ly style in the 2015 art anyway because i was basing it on pre-raphaelite works)
i think once you become a lot more familiar with certain mediums, you allow yourself to be a bit more confident with the brushstrokes you make! the 2022 piece is one where i wanted to create a sense of texture, almost like a digital version of impasto (aka thick layers of paint), and i know better now how to use digital software to create this kind of effect!
and you can see with the next row & the 2016 piece that i managed to create a much smoother, more blended appearance whilst still using the same brush! a part of my improvement came from me allowing myself to spend a little longer on pieces, especially in those first few years. i think a lot of beginners to digital (or any other kind of medium for that matter) think that if they spend the same amount of time on a piece as they would in another medium that they're more familiar with they'll get the same results, but it doesn't really work that way lol... especially if you're very new to digital... my advice here, then, would be to allow yourself to be slow at figuring out the medium (and let yourself make mistakes!)
going back to the 2016 vs 2022 comparison, i wanted to include this to show how sometimes you can keep things still messy, but still controlled and complete looking! also, remember that in digital most programs will let you adjust the 'colour mixing levels' or another similar 'blending level' option, which essentially just means how much the strokes blend or don't blend into what you've already painted... (knowing this would have made blending a whole lot easier back in 2016 lemme tell you lol.....)
(i also wanted to include that comparison cos it looks like they're looking at each other and i find it funny pfft)
the final comparison is, again, to show how controlled brushstrokes can give a piece a simultaneously painter-ly and smooth appearance! in both the 2015 and 2023 pieces, i wasn't super precise in my painting skills. but the 2023, to me at least, doesn't look as messy purely in the way i've been able to use the brush!
i mainly wanted to share this because i spent a long time trying to make my paintings look smooth, and i definitely do still do this in some artworks (particularly if i'm using fluffy/textured brushes), but i realised that i really enjoyed being able to create messy works that overall feel more finished due to the painting skills i've developed over the years!
i also just want to say that i'm not saying that either of these sides are 'better' than the other, they're just a few different ways i've approached art in my years as a digital artist! my observational drawing skills have grown a lot since the left side pieces, but i still think there's a lot to like in my early works and i'm definitely still very proud of them!
~~
thanks for reading & feel free to check out my other art advice posts and consider tipping me here on tumblr or heading to my kofi if you wanna support me! (no pressure ofc!!) <3

'The rave reviews received by Ripley prove that series star Andrew Scott truly can do no wrong in the eyes of Rotten Tomatoes critics, continuing a great 18-movie and TV show streak for the actor. Created by acclaimed screenwriter Steven Zaillian, Ripley is the latest screen re-imagining of Patricia Highsmith’s iconic con man, Tom Ripley. Even though The Talented Mr. Ripley was adapted into a critically acclaimed movie in 1998, the same novel provides the source material for Netflix’s upcoming miniseries. Ripley promises a stylish black-and-white thriller that centers on the perspective of Highsmith’s charming killer, and its early reviews suggest that the series is one of 2024’s best new shows.
While Ripley’s entire cast has impressive resumes, the show’s eponymous antihero is played by a star who has a unique knack for choosing all the right roles. Irish actor Andrew Scott, best known for his roles in Sherlock and Fleabag, plays the role of Ripley in the upcoming series. While Sherlock brought Scott to mainstream prominence, the actor’s career began back when he was only 17 in 1995. Scott appeared in a string of successful indie movies and Irish productions throughout the next decade, but it is in the last decade that he has become a household name thanks to some great choices.
Ripley's 94% Is Andrew Scott's 18th Positive Rotten Tomatoes Score In A Row
Andrew Scott’s Recent Career History Boasts A Frankly Staggering Critical Consensus
Thanks to Ripely, Andrew Scott has now had 18 positive scores in a row on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a fairly astounding achievement as it means the star hasn’t chosen a single project that viewers and critics roundly rejected in almost a decade. Among Scott’s impressive string of roles are All of Us Strangers, 1917, Handsome Devil, Black Mirror, and His Dark Materials. Scott has starred in plenty of mainstream successes as well as art house hits, with Ripley bringing back his Sherlock villainy for the first time since the BBC mystery series ended in 2017.
Scott’s movie and TV roles have varied, with the actor appearing in period dramedies like The Pursuit of Love as well as genre fare like A Dark Place. While there isn’t a specific thematic through line that connects all of Scott’s projects, this has allowed the actor to play a greater range of roles and display more of the versatility that has become synonymous with his name. Even before 2015’s Victor Frankenstein briefly damaged his critical standing, Scott had already excelled in critically acclaimed movies that aren’t included in his 18-title streak, such as Locke and the superb British drama Pride.
Victor Frankenstein Is Andrew Scott's Only "Rotten" Movie Or TV Show On Rotten Tomatoes
Scott’s Role In One 2015 Misfire Could Be Blamed On A Weak Script
While Scott’s hot streak is astounding, one title did throw his average in 2015. His supporting role as Inspector Turpin in Victor Frankenstein was a critical misfire, with reviewers complaining that the project lacked tonal cohesion and a fresh perspective. Victor Frankenstein’s reviews blamed a flawed script for the movie’s failure, with the retelling failing to revive Mary Shelley’s iconic novel for a new generation. A box office flop, Victor Frankenstein’s failure was a significantly bigger issue for stars James MacAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe than Scott. However, it did negatively impact his critical standing due to its poor reception.
Before Victor Frankenstein arrived, Scott’s last three movies had enjoyed solid ratings from audiences and critics on Rotten Tomatoes. As such, the star might have accrued a 21 title hot streak if it weren't for the 2015 flop. That said, Ripley is currently outdoing Saltburn with critics despite director Emerald Fennel’s viral 2023 hit earning endless comparisons to The Talented Mr. Ripley. As such, it is fair to guess that Scott’s critical standing will be alright despite this minor wobble nine years ago. Almost all of his roles have landed with critics, despite how varied his taste in projects has been.
Why Ripley's Rotten Tomatoes Score Is So High
Scott’s Moody Crime Thriller Is Another Exemplary Highsmith Adaptation
Ripley’s positive reviews single Scott's performance out for praise, which won’t come as a shock to fans of Highsmith’s character. Ripley’s story hinges on the actor playing him, since the sociopath could come across as an amoral monster in the wrong hands. However, The Hollywood Reporter credits "Scott’s complex central performance” with the adaptation's success, while The Guardian found his work to be “Spellbinding.” Meanwhile, the BBC praised the changes that the series makes to its novel inspiration, saying that the show plays out like a Hitchcockian thriller.
Critics also praised both Dakota Fanning’s Marge Sherwood and Johnny Flynn’s Dickie Greenleaf, commending the pair for escaping the sizable shadows cast by Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law’s respective takes on the characters. Aesthetically, the shift to black-and-white cinematography and the longer runtime both allow this adaptation to feel like its own beast, which numerous critics noted was a necessity. Since the late, great director Anthony Minghella’s movie remains an acclaimed hit, Ripley needed to give Andrew Scott’s take on the character a fresh look and feel.'

Otakon 2023
Lil ramblin' about the con beneath the cut! But above the cut, my spoils!
I haven't been to a con since NYC Comicon in 2015, so this was a ride!
Amazing Stuff:
-Meeting @citrus-cactus at the Digimon redubbed movies screening! It was so amazing to meet her after being in the same online community for... Like... God, who even knows, like ten years?!?!?! And she is so lovely!
-THE DIGIMON REDUBBED MOVIES SCREENING!!! More on that here!
-My haul above! A sweet lil Kou-chan figure and a Luna plush from the dealer's room and an artbook from Shouri and a Sonic keychain from the artist's alley!
Not my fave stuff and neutral observations:
For reference, I went to Otakon all three days from roughly age 14 straight through college?? Well, in college it would have been Sat/Sun only. After that, I guess I didn't go that often, but any comparisons I make are to that time period (roughly 2003-2011 ish).
The DC convention center as a venue:
-The convention center was easy to get to from the Metro!
-The building was much bigger and better able to handle the crowd than the Baltimore Convention Center.
-There was. NO SIGNAGE. WHATSOEVER. For ANYTHING. Absolutely horrendous. What there WERE were volunteers/employees who bellowed directly into your face to... Do the things you were already doing. Or to... Walk the other way around the pillar. Because the other side leads into the faerie realm or some shit, idek.
-The guide books used to have maps, schedules, opening and closure times, etc. There was a map in this guidebook, but the opening and closing times for different parts of the cons and the event schedule were not printed. Meaning I had to use my phone to know, for example, when and where the Digimon screening event was... And there was poor reception the dealer's room in the lowest level.
Although the event schedule site couldn't load, I was blessed that some of Citrus' discord messages were getting through. She alerted me that the screening room was filling up and told me the room number (bless!!!! Thank!!!).
The con compared to ones I remember:
-I was shocked that there was a digimon panel and two separate Digimon screenings in one day? And the Digimon movie redub screening event was full to capacity- I missed the first film because I was next in line at the shut door D: So, like, Digimon is alive, and I saw two Daisuke cosplays, a Ken cosplay, and someone with a Patamon plush attached to their baseball cap. Patahat! There wasn't much merch. Citrus spotted the main place offering digimerch and sent me there (I got the Kou figure there). She also saw the lone Digimon fanart in Artist's Alley, and we found someone who made baby stage plushes. Another dealer's room place had some vintage plushies of the digimon that looked... like they had been through... some stuff.
Basically, Digimon seems to still be very much alive in terms of audience interest, but not so much the merch and fan art. I don't know what to make of that.
-The con seemed a lot less lively than the ones I remember. I only saw a few interesting cosplays (like the kind where you go, how did they even do that?!). My husband pointed out that the hall is far larger, however, and that the cosplay folks have tons of photo studio rooms to go to. They were likely there.
-The extra space was deeply appreciated (compared to what I'm used to from the Baltimore days), but... Okay, so the Dealer's Room provided empty space. Every aisle had an end area to "pull over in," whether it's for a water or food break, a photo op, or to wait for your bud to make a purchase.
PEOPLE STILL STOPPED DEAD DIRECTLY IN THE MAIN THROUGHWAY. WHY. WOULD YOU DO THAT. PLEASE I AM BEGGING-
My husband says I'm dreaming if I think the provided empty space will stop people from doing that, lol!
-DEMON SLAYER. EVERYTHING IS DEMON SLAYER. THERE IS NOTHING BUT DEMON SLAYER. Look, I enjoy Demon Slayer too, but good gracious, it's clearly the Naruto of the 2020s in terms of popularity.
-I learned who Rem is. Good God there were a lot of Rem figures.
-Looking at my purchases, I bought for three "classic" IPs and supported an artist I've followed for a long time. No new stuff. And I'd say the merch overall was about half "vintage" stuff and half newer stuff. Lots of Sailor Moon, DBZ, Pokemon, etc.
General Con Hardships:
-So a friend suggested to me recently that I might have sensory issues. I balked, because jfc have you seen my list of issues, please don't suggest another, I beg, I am full up, can I have some less sir.
Uh basically she mentioned how much she used to love going to the movies and I said, "I don't go anymore, I can't understand the voice audio." And she was like- Okay so it's true that some movies don't mix sound properly and can't be understood well, but if it's all movies... Um, babe, I think that's an auditory processing issue.
She suggested I get ear plugs, and god DAMN I wish I had them at the con.
Riding in the metro in tunnels? The whoosing and clanking hurt. Volunteers absolutely bellowing in your face at the con? Look, I guess it's their job, but please I am going to cry if you scream in my face like that. People playing music at the loudest volume in the dealer's room and hallways? Why, why would you do that. Someone was walking around playing an ocarina on the way to the dealer's room, so I was stuck with her for about 10-15 min, and I genuinely wanted to lock the damn thing in her backpack on a timer somehow, lmao. Look, ocarinas are easy enough to get the correct note out of, but they are difficult to control tonally. That high-pitched, harsh PHWEEEE noise clawed at my ears.
Of course, you can't control other people. The best I can do is accommodate myself to suit the place I'm going, which means... The damned ear plugs.
Apparently sensory issues and anxiety go hand-in-hand, as of course people feel stressed if the signals around them aren't being processed in the "typical" way, causing strain.
So... The con was exhausting and just... Difficult. But! I'm really glad I went! And I'll just buy the gd earplugs, here's what was recommended to me.
Also, PS: I found a piece of rare digimon merch that was way out of my budget at a dealer's room stand. But when I came home and looked it up, I found it for 35% less (which, at this price point, was a lot). AND NOW I HAVE AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE ON THE WAY AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW YOU! Also, honestly check the retail on stuff in the dealer's room before you buy, this must be why there's no reception down there-
I am ready to not attend a con until next year! But to also go next year! Maybe I'll meet more of my online pals!!!! :D

So!!
THESE GUYS are my LONGEST RUNNING OC's, and the protagonists of a little novel I've finished the first draft of called Spellbound. If you've followed me on any of my other (now defunct) art accounts elsewhere, it's likely you've seen these guys before. They are my favourites and I really don't draw them enough at the moment.
From top to bottom, left to right: Vice-Commander Grimm (chick with the thick eyebrows), Vice-Commander Grin (guy with the short curly hair), Nebula Solonoff (guy with the mark across his eye), and Valerie Solonoff (chick with the long lashes). Both are brother-sister duos from very different worlds that find themselves caught up in something bigger than they could've imagined that involves them all.
Hope you'll get to read it one day!! (Or maybe you've read some of it in its current form where I posted chapters ;) ) and I hope you like these guys!
As for the song I picked, the lyrics of each "noun" line (I couldn't include all the words) matches the character arc of all four pretty well, so if you decide to give it a listen, it gives minor hints as to the story of each character.
Additionally, I attempted this drawing YEARS ago with all four and the song lyrics, but only managed Nebula and Valerie. Comparison in the readmore!
Behold, approx 2014/2015 Nebula and Valerie vs current (2023) Nebula and Valerie.
Tell me if you'd like to see more of them or know more about them!!

Looking Back on 2023
Heyyy folks! Long time no news from me huh.
I'm struggling to think of what to even say about my silence. I've not been doing so bad I'd call myself depressed, but I'm doing a tad worse than just a slump. It's been a rough 6 months, not because of one big thing. Instead, a bunch of medium-sized reasons all piled up on top of each other to leave me extremely drained. I've mostly been working on the two commissions I still had in my queue (thank you to my commissioners for being so patient with me, I'm so sorry to make you wait so long <3). I've done a little personal art other than that but didn't have the leftover focus to keep up with sharing it on social media or writing up any updates about my situation. I've pretty much only been active sharing things in my art discord. I'd like to say I've been doing better in the last month or so, but I hesitate to make any promises at this point! We'll just have to see how things go :)
Artfight
So you were promised a more in depth artfight review but I think I missed the right timeframe for that... instead have this look at 3 years of unfinished artfight thumbnails from my new year's wip clean-out!
Year of Art Summary
All things considered I made a lot of art this year, and I'm really happy with how most of it turned out ☺ I did a bunch of experimenting with more playful techniques and color schemes and I think they suit my style a lot. I want to try and much those limits even more next year to see what kind of fun art I can create! Something with colors specifically really clicked in my brain after that witch drawing I did in April, before then I would spend a long time figuring out the perfect color scheme and doing a bunch of adjustments but ever since that drawing things have really been coming together super quick? I'm not sure what changed but no complaints from me.
Life Drawing Summary
I rarely post my life drawing but I've been keeping at it! Actually, I put together a few pdfs showcasing all my life drawing going back to 2022, you can download them for free in my itch or ko-fi shops! :>
I also put together a yearly art improvement comparison going back to 2015 that I was planning to put here. However, seeing how long this is already getting... I'll make a separate post for it.
Commissions
I've been gearing up to open commissions again after that unintended hiatus. I don't want to open slots until I'm sure I'm back to being able to finish them in a reasonable timeframe, so I've been using that leftover energy I do have to think about revamping some things and new styles to offer. Back in November I ran a survey on what people want to see from me (it's still open if you'd like to fill it out and help me get more stats!)
here's a preview of what's to come based on that & my whims:
- stamp commissions were super well received so they'll be added to my main repertoire
- A combo of me reading too much dun meshi and wanting to offer some kind of comicky commissions led to this idea of comic pages of characters eating together, I have a couple examples in progress, when they're done I'll add this style to my main offerings!
- I'm still not 100% set on sketchpages but I like the idea of them so if this test goes well I'll add them as an option
Onward to 2024!
I already completed my new year's resolution on day 1 of 2024, it was to pet a cat. I've made a second one which is to get a library card whenever my visa is approved and I move back home. It's been something I've been wanting to do for a while but never got around to, hoping this will be the excuse I need to do it.
Art-wise it's not a new goal, but I've been trying to focus on improving my rendering! Though I've also been playing around a lot with screentone... the two don't have to be at odds 🤔
I'm dedicating this year's personal art time to making new references for as many ocs as possible with nude bases so I can easily design new outfits for them whenever I want to without fully making a new ref from scratch.
Otherwise I'm just trying to take it slow, work on things one at a time and see what happens from there.

I was scrolling down Ryan's instagram to check if the bae post was really gone (it's so weird lmao!!) and I noticed that back in 2015 he was posting about painting with oils, so he's been into painting for years aw, it's cool that he feels confident enough to post his artworks now
Lost another one to The Great Purge of 2023 💔 Next thing you know he’ll be moving on from EWS!! 💔
We’ve talked on here about him abandoning the Gym Bro persona to embrace his actual interests, and I like that you can see a clear shift just by looking at his page. After that season 3 vs. season 6 comparison (he really put himself through that just for a photo op smh) there’s two pics with Miss G and then…it’s all art (including his photography). 🫶🏻

Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room (2019)
"Once upon a time, the Protestant work ethic was a leveling, democratizing attitude and social force. It served as a critique of aristocratic exemption from necessary labor because it insisted that everybody had to justify their consumption of goods by their prior production of value—everybody."
— James Livingston, No More Work (2016)
"When the mob ran Vegas... If you ended up dead in a ditch in the desert, it was probably because you tried to get in the way of the money."
— Ram Denison, Money Machine (2020)
"Why Is Money So Difficult to Discuss? In a word, money is a scary topic."
— L. Randall Wray, Making Money Work for Us
"As a Dionysian sexualist, Sade abolishes the great chain of being, sinking man into the continuum of nature, but he cannot shake off the intellectual hierarchism of his age. [...] Sade’s libertines freely wallow in filth and find no humiliation in being flogged or sodomized in public. The excretory voiding of one person into the mouth of another is Dionysian monologue, a pagan oratory.”
— Camille Paglia, Sexual Personae: Art and Decadence from Nefertiti to Emily Dickinson (1990)
"All savages speak and by speaking they reveal their solidarity with the decency and kindness that are the root of civilisation. Conversely all civilised men are capable of savagery. [...] The Marquis de Sade, rebellious in his imprisonment, had to give his rebellion a voice. He spoke out, as violence itself never does. In his rebellion he had to defend himself, or rather to attack, seeking to fight on the ground of the moral man to whom language belongs."
— Georges Bataille, Erotism: Death and Sensuality (1957)
"What Berlin plausibly argues is that value-pluralism can be used to support a moral minimum, precarious, shifting and ridden with conflicts, which has priority over any political ideal. If we read him in this way, which is consistent with much of his work, Berlin is not so much a theorist of liberty as a philosopher of human decency." — Isaiah Berlin (2013)
"A dispassionate view of Nature showed it to be indifferent to happiness, human or otherwise. Incessant predation, destruction and death are the natural order of things. In view of these facts, Sade posed a question: should not the enlightened individual, liberated from religious delusions, accept this order and revel in it? By doing so, he or she will find pleasure, even as the species as a whole remains sunk in suffering." — Seven Types of Atheism (2018)
“Where Montaigne turns to nature, Pascal turns to God.” — Feline Philosophy (2020)
— John N. Gray
“Your significance doesn’t depend on your position. Your significance doesn’t depend on a title. Your significance depends on the power of the spirit of God working through you.”
— Senator Josh Hawley | Twitter (2023)
"Sublimation and renewed focus on the spiritual isn't always the right response to loneliness."
— LeahLibresco | Twitter (2014)
"We are obliged to enjoy ourselves to pieces, or, more precisely, to consume ourselves to pieces, and in comparison with not so long ago the contemporary drive regulation is reduced to a minimum."
— Paul Verhaeghe, On the New discontents of Civilisation (2015)
"4chan was populated by a group of declassed individuals set so far apart from society and so wholly lacking in identity that they began to obsess over it."
— Dale Beran, It Came From Something Awful
"You know, there's kind of two options the left has for disillusioned men. The first is the Marxist promise of economic revolution. [...] So while feminism tells women you hate your body and you’re constantly doubting yourself because society did this to you and needs to change, we kind of just tell men: ‘you’re lonely and suicidal because you’re toxic. Stop it!’ We tell them they're broken without really telling them how to fix themselves."
— ContraPoints, “Men” | YouTube (2019)
“Maybe human work at its most elementary, work, as it were, at the zero level, is the work of cleaning the traces of a stain. The work of erasing the stains, keeping at bay this chaotic netherworld, which threatens to explode at any time and engulf us. […] What’s the source of Chaplin’s comic genius? What’s the archetypal comic situation in Chaplin’s films? It’s being mistaken for somebody or functioning as a disturbing spot, as a disturbing stain.”
— Slavoj Žižek, Pervert’s Guide to Cinema (2006)
“To fight against the desire to be erased.”
— Kate Zambreno, Heroines (2012)
“Humiliation strips people of their self-esteem and reduces them to vulnerable creatures rather than significant beings in a world of meaning.”
— Solomon/Greenberg/Pyszczynski, The Worm at the Core: On the Role of Death in Life (2015)
"[”Closer” is] super negative and super hateful. It’s ‘I am a piece of shit and I am declaring that and if you think you want me, here I am.’”
— Trent Reznor (1995), found in Adam Steiner's Into The Never (2020)
"If intimacy says, “We’re close and the same,” and independence says, “We’re separate and different,” it is easy to see that intimacy and independence dovetail with connection and status. [...] Biological influence does not mean patterns of behavior can’t be changed. And cultural influences are extremely deep and difficult to change."
— Deborah Tannen, You Just Don’t Understand: Women and Men in Conversation (1990/2001)
