This is why I love my zoom lens
Tumblr media
I heard elk calling across the valley and spotted something moving. The first photo is what I saw and the dot is the elks location. The second photo is my lens max and the last is cropped even closer in. Obviously this length doesn't produce good photos but the reach is cool for observing animals far far away. I have a Nikkor 200-500mm with a Nikon D500 making it actually a 300-750mm due to the crop factor.

The Canon 200-500mm Could Come With a Change That You May Not Like
When it comes to lens rumors, we often know that the final product will not be the same as the initial report. We have been reporting that Canon is working on a 200-500mm lens that could rival Nikon and Sigma’s lenses. It now appears that the Canon 200-500mm is undergoing some specification changes, which could actually lead to people losing interest in the upcoming lens. How so? Discover more…

Eastern Bluebird, again. It is my favorite bird after all! :)
This is one of four bluebirds I have been photographing for about a month now. It is nesting in a box in Windsor CT, and is quite comfortable with people watching. I think singing and talking to it has made it realize I am no threat and not trying to predate :)
You can see the small insect being held in it's mouth as it brought it back to the nest box. It sat for a moment observing, taking a peek at me, then to the sky at the many roosting vultures nearby, before popping in the nest to feed it's young.
D500, 500mm lens. This was shot at dusk at 1/200 of a second from a tripod, at 3200 ISO and F/13. It is cropped square but otherwise uncropped.

Note
What do you use for when you’re photographing birds?
Sigma 150-500mm. Thinking of upgrading to the 200-500mm Nikon or 150-600mm sigma though
