Overview of Singapore's Botanic Gardens.
Singapore's Botanic Gardens is a national treasure, boasting a rare collection of plant species and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, with approximately 4.4 million visitors annually. The gardens were set up in 1859 by Singapore's Agri-Horticultural Society.  The park contains three sections: The Tanglin Core Area, Bukit Timah Core Area, and Jacob Ballas Children's Garden. It is home to over 10,000 species of plants and animals and has lush landscapes and rolling hills. Visitors will discover six lakes teeming with aquatic life, such as freshwater turtles and terrapins, alongside walking trails lined with trees and flowers.

History of the Botanic Gardens.
The Botanic Gardens preserves Singapore's natural heritage and they were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015. Since its inception, it has grown from an experiment in crop cultivation to one of the world's most renowned botanical gardens. In the 82 hectares of land can be found more than 10,000 species of plants which include rare orchids and plant species native to Singapore. It is also home to many historic buildings, such as the National Orchid Garden and Burkill Hall, preserved for their historical significance. The garden also features an array of sculptures and artwork from various cultures across Asia.

Flora and Fauna of the Botanic Gardens.
The Singapore Botanic Gardens is the only tropical botanical garden on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is one of three gardens to be awarded the prestigious Garden of Excellence by the World Federation of Rose Societies.  This lush oasis houses diverse flora and fauna, making it one of Singapore's most beloved attractions. The gardens boast an impressive collection including orchids, palms, spices, gingers, and even mangroves. On top of that, several hundred species of birds, reptiles, and amphibians live amongst its various habitats.  The habitats include swamp forests, freshwater streams, and ridges.

Attractions and Activities at the Botanic Gardens.
The gardens have something for everyone, from lush greenery to nature trails and waterfalls. Visitors can explore the vast parkland on foot or participate in educational workshops such as gardening classes, guided tours, and talks on conservation practices. For those who prefer a stroll, there are guided walks through the gardens to discuss its flora and fauna. There are also several lake-side restaurants where visitors can relax while enjoying spectacular views over the lake. The Botanic Gardens Today.
The Botanic Gardens were opened in 1859 as a plantation of the East India Company. Today, it is one of the oldest surviving gardens from the colonial era, having been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.  In the gardens, visitors can explore a variety of vegetation, including tropical rainforest trees and plants from various parts of Southeast Asia. The grounds offer many attractions for locals and tourists, such as guided tours, educational programs, and recreational activities. Nature lovers will find plenty to admire, with around 865 flowering plants spread across five sections: Evolution Garden; Healing Garden; National Orchid Garden; Rain Forest Trail; and Sun Garden.

Dining and Shopping Options at the Botanic Gardens.
Visitors to the Singapore Botanic Gardens can enjoy a variety of dining and shopping experiences. The lush gardens provide a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. The National Orchid Garden Café offers light refreshments such as sandwiches, snacks, cakes, iced beverages, and freshly brewed coffees. The café also serves up traditional local cuisine like Nasi Lemak and Mee Siam for those looking for something more substantial. For retail therapy, there's The Gift Shop which sells educational books about plants and nature-inspired souvenirs like postcards, keychains, and magnets.
