Consuelo Huntington Morales: 1930s Lookbook
The first lookbook of the decade was Consuelo in her early 20s, so here she is in her early 40s toward the end of the decade, around 1938. Some of her outfits are repeats from the beginning of the 1930s, but she has some new outfits that reflect her husband’s higher status and some menswear influences to match Consuelo’s androgynous style. Around the house or doing work in the yard, Consuelo finds it much more comfortable to wear trousers. She enjoys gardening, fishing, collecting natural items, and spending time with her family. Consuelo’s traits are Loves the Outdoors, Self-Assured, and Noncommittal.

Back into sims and my first idea was an attempt to make Anna Chang. She is super adorable in this shit film and I am legit sad that she doesn't have a lot of information about her. Coming up with a CC version soon because that hair is amazing.
Honestly I kind of hate the no cc version here because it seems rather bland, but I tried to make the outfits match the film and few images I could find of poor Anna.

Following on from the recent sad new that @jius-sims is retiring from making custom content for the Sims 4, I wanted to put together a bit of an ode to their incredible work. I don't think there's many lookbooks I've made that don't use at least a pair of their expertly crafted shoes. This post isn't exhaustive and I highly recommend checking out their back catalogue of work because their creations are truly next level. CC links under the cut.

Annie - A BGC Simblreen Collection
The 1982 version of Annie starring Aileen Quinn was one of my favorite movies growing up. All of us kids in the neighborhood spent countless hours acting the story out, and I'm pretty sure I still have the soundtrack memorized to this day.
You may be wondering why I did not make the outfit Annie wore while she lived at the orphanage. The reason I chose these four in particular is because they were featured in a 1982 Sears catalog. Girls could choose outfits inspired by the movie, or contemporary ones with the Annie logo.
All items are in my Combined Diary palette with a few swatches added or removed. The movie dress is a mesh edit of @linzlu's Samantha collection. There is some weird texture on the fingernails. This comes from the original mesh, and shouldn’t be very visible. The sailor dress uses a collar from @waxesnostalgic.

The tour was going better than even Josephine could have imagined. Despite the melodramatic resignation with which Antoine had gotten in the car the morning they had left Strangerville, or the brooding quiet he adopted on their drives between performances, he was a different person on stage.
So much so that when Jo watched him perform she knew that this was where he was always meant to be, even if he had tried to pretend otherwise. After all, she had been the one who had been there from the first moment he had ever sat in front of a piano, advocating for him first at the club with their mother and then with men all over town. She had been the one who had believed in him, even when he hadn’t believed in himself.
And for whatever cowboy fantasy he may have been living in Strangerville, seeing him like this was like watching him come alive all over again - until finally, it was as though the best of the artist he had been under the heavy weight of the Storyville air had been set free, colliding and enmeshing with some idea of himself he had found on the open mesas.
With every cheer and every show it grew stronger; and even as he might have grown more homesick or quiet with her, something else was growing in him. Away from the stage, she would catch him at all hours of the day and night, huddled with his guitar and clutching a pen, working quietly but furiously on compositions and lyrics.
It didn’t seem to matter how shabby their accommodations were, or that each bed and each view was different but woefully the same as the one before. He only had himself and his guitar, and whether that was enough or just a distraction from the fact that it would never be, she was unable or unwilling to discern.
As the weeks wore on, they fell into a sort of rhythm, one governed by constant movements and brief moments of respite. Antoine would wake when Jo turned on the lights only to know without words that they would have to load up the car to get to their next stop, check in another hotel, unload their bags yet again, play another show, and end up back in the same room by evening. Day after day, the same routine was governed by blurred vistas from a car window, tinged with movement and restlessness, just like Jo's soul had always been.
So it was in those brief moments of stillness that Antoine would just simply sit and write, allowing whatever stained carpet he was sitting on to become home for just a moment. Only Jo could still see it even when she was meant to rest - the freshly paved black asphalt shivering in the ever present sun, stretching out all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It was impossible to ignore, not when she knew what was waiting for her just outside.
So she would tell Antoine that she would be home soon, a quick nod telling her that he had barely heard her. Moments later, she had left the hotel in her rearview mirror. Then, without fail, the feeling of freedom rushed over her as the wind roared past her ears and deafened her to every noise swirling around her, even those coming from inside her own head. She never wanted to stop the car once it got going, the asphalt burning hot under the incessant movement of the tires and the charged touch of the accelerator as it gave way under her heel, finally meeting the metal below as the car groaned under her.
But eventually, begrudgingly, she would realize that she had gone too far to be back home by sunrise, or to know where the nearest gas station was, so she would turn around back to the hotel that she called home for only a few nights at a time.
Sometimes when she returned, he would be asleep, run ragged by the driving and shows that only made her more energized than she had ever been in her life. Other times he was still sitting exactly where she left him, guitar clutched in his hand and seemingly surprised that hours had gone by while she was away. Those nights it was like they had both caught the one another in a daydream, Jo’s mind still racing as fast as the car had been and Antoine’s numbed to the outside world by the lyrics that flowed from it like whiskey.
Only when they met each other's eyes did they realize another day awaited them - one filled with the promise or dread of yet another faceless room and a cheering crowd. Then there was little left to do but sleep with the hope that you had the energy to face it.
When the sun broke through the curtains, it brought with it another drive, another hotel, and another show - another day of the movement that had carried them along like waves for weeks at a time. So Antoine would brush the sleep from his eyes, only half aware even as Jo clasped the pearls behind each ear. Then he would rustle up his papers, slow to fit each shirt back into his suitcase as though it shrank with each stop.
By the time they were back in Val's car, the wind took over for the silence of a long drive, grown more poignant by the fact that part of her knew that he didn’t want to be there, and part of him saw that she would push them forward nonetheless.
Except at the end of every drive was yet another show, softening the tension between them with his lyrics that reinforced to her that this was where he was meant to be all along. He never faltered as he played, reminded that despite whatever had kept him awake the night before, this was always waiting for him. Every song and every note like an outlet for his pain, his feelings free to roam through him and escape from him like nothing else.
All their lives, Jo had watched him hide the words he had wanted to say, or the frustrations he felt. She was proud, and even more deeply, joyful that she had gotten him here. Finally, singing on a stage where people listened to him and appreciated him for the artist he was, even if it was in the corner of some dusty bar in the middle of some desert state. She was smart enough to see that if he just allowed it for himself, this was only the beginning. So when Hosa caught up to them on the last leg of their tour and offered her not one but two more tours, she didn’t even hesitate before saying yes.

ARGENTINIDAD
🇦🇷 A Argentinian Historial Sim Download A few weeks ago my historical tumblr with things related from my country took a lot of relevance, thanks to many resources I realized that there are many people who are interested in having several argentinian sims in their game, so this is for them and everyone interested in the history of different countries (or who need some sim for their game lol).
[More photos, info and download below]
These sims are originally from my Women's Day post inspired by female historical figures from different decades in Argentina. They are doctors, lawyers, writers and much more. But there is a bonus included which is two new sims = Corina Kavannagh and Lola Mora.
Corina Kavanagh. 1890-1984.
Corina Kavanagh was an Argentinian rancher known for the Kavanagh Building , the tallest concrete skyscraper in Argentina and South America at the beginning of the last century. This building has a legend that says it was built because Corina fell in love with a man of the Anchorena family, one of the most illustrious surnames in Argentina. The Anchorena's were an aristocratic and landowning dynasty with a Basilica which they could see from their mansion. Corina had a wealthy family but they looked down on her as a "nouveau riche" with no lineage, so the Anchorenas prohibited her from having a relationship with one of their members. Corina bought the land between the basilica and the mansion and built 120 meters of concrete so that they could not see the church. Since 1936, the only way for the Anchorena family to visit their Basilica was through the Corina Kavanagh passage.
(Lola) Dolores Candelaria Mora. 1866-1936.
The most flattered and discussed Argentine sculptor of her time, the artist who scandalized the society of her time, died in poverty and was vindicated by time. She began studying portrait and drawing in Tucumán and then obtained a scholarship in 1896 to perfect herself in Rome where she changed drawing for sculpture. There she was highly praised and in 1900 the artist decided to return to the country, where she obtained several state commissions, including the Fountain of the Nereids in 1903. She also faced controversy due to the nudity of her figures, and in her workshop it was common to find her working with pants on the structures of the sculptures.

It was only his second proper ballet lesson, but Louis still felt like a fish out of water. The other boys seemed to know exactly what they were doing, especially César, who had been learning pretty much his entire life.
So, trying to regain his usually so much more confident self, he took to asking his classmate for advice. César seemed to feel very secure in his own skills, so much so that he admitted that dancing just came to him naturally. When it came down to it, he did not recall ever worrying about what could go wrong. Instead, he'd just let his own body lead the way.
While this so-called advice felt a bit more like brag, Louis could read between the lines and apply it to his situation. He had definitely been worrying too much about how he compared to the other students, but there really was no reason to. Everybody had to start somewhere, and they were all here for the same reason - to learn to be a better dancer. So, pushing his worries aside for the moment, Louis let his body flow as it felt right, and for the first time, he felt like he was really a part of the class.
The class's warmup exercises were interrupted, when a man wearing a jacket similar to the students' own uniform cleared his throat behind them. The man introduced himself as Mr. Booth, the teacher who would host the boys' lessons, while the girls were with Miss Lambert. His aura was almost as intimidating as Miss Lambert's, though his casual stance and small smile softened it the tiniest bit.
As Mr. Booth continued introducing his teachings, he made his way to the still silent gramophone, next to which he discarded his jacket and shirt, until he was dressed down to his undershirt. His outfit almost seemed akin to that of the students now, which already gave them indication enough for what his next moves would be.
Gracefully, Mr. Booth started performing a short and simple dance routine. Though it was not quite the same, Louis almost felt transported back into the theatre loge, watching the professional dancers perform on stage. Really, Mr. Booth was a profession, too, so perhaps it was not that different after all.
However, the one big difference was that this dance was performed specifically for the class to practice. Mr. Booth went through the routine one more time, before encouraging his students to repeat after him. Louis watched as his teacher turned to play a classical record on the gramophone, while his own nerves started dancing all over the place again. "Take a deep breath," he thought to himself. "Just let go."
The students formed a line next to their teacher, as they waited for his countdown, and soon the line started moving back and forth, repeating the moves they had just learned. Somehow, the music helped lessen the nerves, too, as it drowned out any worries.
Bit by bit, Louis could feel the moves becoming easier with every run. Soon, his mind faded out his surroundings, and he started imagining himself performing on the big stage. Feeling light as a feather now, a smiled formed on his face, not disappearing again for the rest of the school day.
[TRANSCRIPT]
Louis: "I don't know..."
César: "You're too tense, Lou. Just... take a deep breath, recentre yourself, focus, and.. just let go!"
...
Mr. Booth: "Ahem. Good morning, boys!"
"morning" / "good morning" / "morning"
Mr. Booth: "My name is Mr. Booth. Miss Lambert might have already mentioned me to you."
Mr. Booth: "Yesterday, you already discussed some basics. Did some warmups for what's to come. But, today..."
*crack*
Mr. Booth: "I want you to get into the practice of it all! I've been trained to dance, just like you will be. One thing that's always helped me is visual learning. So, let me demonstrate."
...
Mr. Booth: "Alright. Your turn."

1930s Loookbook
After the roaring 20s, fashion became more conservative in the 1930s, with hair and hemlines getting longer again. The era was defined by the great depression, after the stock market crashed in 1929, and lasted through almost the whole decade. Many families during this time began making dresses from flour sacks, and so companies began printing textiles on the sacks for extra reusability. Despite the decade's widespread poverty, fashion themes of femininity and elegance prevailed, inspired by Hollywood stars like Joan Crawford.

The Duchess of Feldsbury's wardrobe has changed much since the 1920s. It is still very fashionable and elegant, but some changes to her hair and style reflect her changing role as a mother and as a duchess, which she has taken a larger role in. It also reflects a more modest look as 1930s fashion took more of a feminine and conservative style, reacting to the flappers of the 20s, and wealthy women emphasized luxury in light of a global depression. I know this is my first lookbook of the 1930s, but hey it's one of my favorites.

Andrés Morales: 1930s Lookbook
After listening to your feedback, I think I'll bring back the PNG/still image format for lookbooks so we can see Andrés' whole wardrobe together. Andrés Rodolfo Morales is an ambitious man who had arranged a "lavender" marriage of convenience with Consuelo Huntington at the beginning of the 1930s. This lookbook depicts him in his late 30s toward the end of the decade, as he lives more comfortably as the worst years of the Great Depression are past him. Andrés turned to bootlegging at the beginning of the Depression and has acquired crime boss status in his small town of Oasis Springs. His biggest rival is Malcolm Landgraab, and Andrés has formed a romantic relationship with his associate Brent Hong.

Liesl Dress - BGC
The Sound of Music is one of my favorite classic films, and a little while ago while online shopping, I stumbled across a dress inspired by the one worn by Liesl von Trapp during "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." Luckily they were sold out of my size, otherwise I would have been tempted. Instead, I decided to turn it into CC!
Because the overskirt is transparent, it will not be compatible with laptop mode. There is some clipping while sitting and folding arms, but I didn't notice any significant issues.
Done in @needleworkreve's Primary Palette. Coincidentally, the swatch used in the preview picture is number 16.

The soft ticking of a clock kept time in the corner of the room. For Antoine it seemed almost like a metronome, a steady beat to offset the rhythm of the fifth song he’d played for Zelda tonight. Or was it the sixth? The passage of time here just didn’t feel the same as it did on the road. It was softer, welcome even, the way the wrinkles on his hands made him smile now, or the laugh lines growing around Zelda’s eyes only made them sparkle more. It was safe. Like the loving embrace of home that only grows better with time.
He didn't need to look at the lyrics or the notes to play the songs anymore. Weeks of practice had ensured that. So his compositions sat in a pile next to Zelda's feet as she read and reread everything he had put to paper, spilled out before her like the contents of his soul laid bare. “Did you really write all of these in so little time?”
His coy smile told her yes, and his pride emanated through the room like afternoon sunbeams. It was hard not to smile back at him when she spoke. “It’s amazing. Truly.” Her thumb rustled back and forth over the paper, as though trying to pull what she wanted to ask from the words written there. “So you’re happy when you’re out there?”
A brief, pregnant pause filled the air, as though it were the last question he had expected her to ask, especially not when he had already said so much with every lyric at her feet. “I’m happy to be home.”
She set the paper in her hand down gently atop the jumble of other songs. She traced her finger along the messy script running from left to right, most of it filled with nothing but love and longing for her and their home. It should have made her happy, but it was hard to read them without remembering that those were the very things he had agreed to leave again so soon.
A less rational fear would have told her that he had written them as some sort of apology, a balm for the rhythm that was to become their lives now; but she knew better than to think he would ever be so dishonest. No, the rustling presence at her fingertips and the fear clouding her mind was more nefarious than that.
The soft sound of wood hitting the rug reverberated through the room as he set the guitar down between his legs and extended his hand. “Come here.”
She moved toward him, nestling herself where the guitar had been moments before. His arms wrapped around her as he spoke, "This isn't about the next tour, is it? You know what I said, Zelda. You say the word and I won't go. I mean it."
Yet the crinkle of paper at her feet continued to tell her that he meant it less than before.
She leaned her weight onto the hand running along her hair as she shook her head no, it wasn't about the next tour. He looked down straight into her eyes, which were filled with worry. “You don’t have to worry about me, my love. All I do is worry about you and Violette when I'm there. I don't want you here doing the same."
Her feet ever so gently pushed the pile of papers further away, taking with them the question he had never really answered. Are you happy when you’re out there? She tried to nudge away the thoughts they had spurred too.
But they clung to her like wisps of fabric trapped in the breeze, wanting so desperately to be let free but unable to do so. She had promised herself that wouldn't hold him back, and if nothing else, she was wise enough to understand that her own anxieties were unwanted thoughts from the depths of her mind sent to lead her astray. She wouldn't let them lead him away from his destiny too. “Its my job to worry. I always will. But this...”
She stopped, gesturing toward the song lyrics before she rolled her head onto him and transformed her mouth into a smile. Only as soon as her eyes met his, it spread across her face, and finally, the ragged edges of her worry flew away on the wind, “this makes me feel like it’s worth it. All of that time away. All of the moments of longing, that at least all of this came out of it. That you're happy."
He kept his hand on her chin and gently angled her face closer toward his own, as though to ensure her eyes stayed trained on his when she answered his question. "You promise me, Zelda? You promise that you're okay?"
Her answer came breathlessly, and with no memory that he was the one who had never answered her question in the first place. “I’m sure, I promise.”
Even if the papers rustling below my feet make me worried you are happy. Too happy. More happy than you are here. Or at least more inspired. More alive. And sooner or later they mean you'll stop coming home, because this is what you were made for, and I'm nothing but a line in a song about a woman you used to love.
