19 Mayıs Atatürk’ü Anma, Gençlik ve Spor Bayramı'mız kutlu olsun!
Today is May 19, Atatürk's Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day (19 Mayıs Atatürk’ü Anma, Gençlik ve Spor Bayramı) in Turkey. It commemorates Atatürk's arrival to Samsun via boat from Bandırma (across the Black Sea) in 1919. This date is also considered the beginning of the War of Independence, and Atatürk's symbolic birthday.
It was first celebrated in 1926 as Day of Veterans (Gazi Günü) in Samsun, before being officialized in 1935 as Atatürk Day. The latter was a venture of the Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club (BJK) in Fenerbahçe Stadium in Istanbul, with participation from Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray soccer players. Later during a Sports Congress(?), one of BJK's founders suggested dedicating this day to all youth, under the name "19 May Youth and Sports Festival". This motion was voted in, and with Atatürk's approval, turned into law in June 1938. After the 12 September 1980 coup, "Atatürk's Commemoration" was added to the festival's name.
This day is celebrated countrywide with sports events, parades and other ceremonies. The path of a giant Turkish flag, bearing the inscription "From Youth, with Love of Atatürk, to the President" ("Gençlikten Atatürk Sevgisiyle Cumhurbaşkanına") and named the "Love Flag" (Sevgi Bayrağı) is possibly the most significant tradition. It follows the Path of Independence (Kurtuluş Yolu), Atatürk's route in 1919 within Samsun, from Tütün İskelesi (the dock where he landed) to the Veteran (Gazi) Museum (formerly the hotel where he stayed for six days), alongside the mayor of Samsun. Then it's handed over to young athletes, who carry it through nine cities, starting with Amasya (still following Atatürk's route), to Ankara where it's given to the President of the Republic.

Varsa hangisi?
Sağlıcakla kal 💕
A brief psa for my non-Turkish speaking followers:
Each year on May 19th, we celebrate a very important national holiday in Turkey, which is dedicated to Youth, Sports, and Commemoration of our founder, Atatürk. This date marks the onset of the Turkish War of Independence that lasted from May 19th, 1919 to October 29th, 1923.
-
Kendine iyi bak. En içten dileklerimle.

“The Fountain Square project was finished in May 2012, as part of the Turkish May 19 celebrations (Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day), and as part of revitalizing the Marmaris downtown.   Also known as Marmaris 19 May Youth Square, the square has a fountain with a diameter of over 100′ featuring colored lights and a spectacular water/light show at night.”

101 years ago, the great Atatürk started the War of Independence of our country. And founded modern Turkey. There are those who want to take our country off the civilized world for a long time. We, Ataturk's children, will not allow this. And we will proceed on Atatürk's way. Happy 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷#mustafakemalataturk❤ #turkeyrepublic #19may1919 https://www.instagram.com/p/CAX5_-cHxaLv4YNC9sc995oG_rKOni9AV-SUtw0/?igshid=nz4dr6f4gizn

Yay! Its 19 May “Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day”! This is a day where Turkey’s War of Indepence started from Samsun City (1919-1923 period). In May 19 - 1919, Mustafa Kemal started a popular uprising against the decision of the WW1 allies to divide many territories of the defeated Ottoman Empire. Oh I can clearly say, instead of past years guerilla defendings or disorganised army, it was the End-Game. Aand in 1938, it deciced to be a national holiday also includes youth and sports!
