Potential Character for Mrs. Kelsey and Tumblr 12/1/2022: 

 Nikola Tesla, Inventor From Another World: 

 Appearance: (See above). 

What he might be in: 12 Realms. 

Background: 

Eccentric and brilliant, Tesla was known for a number of things. Being the father of a kind of current, being Thomas Edison’s rival, the time he tried to make a “death ray”, for example. 

But what hardly anyone knew of was the time he accidentally opened a portal to another world… a world of fairy tales and literature. 

There, he found people he could hardly believe, and had ideas that, likely, could only work there, and fought against a terrible evil… an evil called the Dark Undermaster. 

How he is like me: 

We’re both odd, intelligent, and creative. My Autism sometimes makes me behave oddly (or, at least, WANT to behave oddly), it makes me quite knowledgeable on matters I’m interested in, and it sometimes gives me ideas for fan fictions. In addition, sometimes, we both get frustrated with the world outside our heads. 

Mrs. Kelsey’s notes: 

Tesla stumbled upon a place where he fit in, it was a place that gave his creativity purpose, not like he had found in the real world. 

It is easier for Michael to get lost in the world of fan fictions because he understands the characters, the different realms, and how they are all connected.  But when it comes to having a back-and-forth conversation about them, questions from others can cause frustration and want you to say things like “just read the book!” 

The world he stumbles upon is “Fairy”. 

What is it like there? 

Dark undermaster is trying to take control of it by invading the checkerboard kingdoms and trying to conquer them. 

Wonderland, Oz, Nile Valley, the Silver Kingdom, Horrorville, Olympia- and many more (they are different nations). 

He likes clockwork shire - it’s steampunk and this is where he fits in most. 

Rivalry with Edison because of electricity - they had differing opinions on how electricity should work or flow. 

Interactions with Snow White - encounters her by accident trying to figure out where he was, the dwarfs tried to catch him but she talked them into letting him go. 

Dark undermaster is also from earth - he was a bad author - maybe he has a grudge against being judged in the real world and he’s trying to take it out by being a bully. 

It’s one thing to know that you are different and to understand that people perceive the things that you do as odd, but it takes a lot of strength to recognize that sometimes we just have to go with the flow and act “more normal” even though we know we aren’t that way. 

Tesla’s interest in being able to help the different kingdoms stems from him wanting to be accepted, and recognizing everyone is odd in their own way based on their interests. 

But this is also why there are many different kingdoms in Tesla’s story - they are all odd to outsiders in someway but that doesn’t mean it is a bad thing.

That no make up mod has prompted me to voice something I THINK .... I think that because Karlach is the character she is, which is to say she is clearly coded as a masculine lesbian (no that doesn't mean I think she IS a lesbian/isn't bi, I think you can headcanon different sexualities with characters but canon in game shes clearly bi ANYWAY).

I think because Karlach is coded as a masculine lesbian, both the game and the fandom, consciously or unconsciously, feel a need to Counter Balance her masculinity. I think she gets Golden Retrievered' by the fandom so much partly because of this. A lot of Karlach's darker personality traits emphasize her masculinity; she is angry, shes impulsive, shes over confident, shes aggressive and prone to violence. She is also, of course, full of love and resilience, shes deeply kind, extremely brave, an incredibly loyal person, and someone who has an admirable respect for her own emotions and their worthiness. But she is also all of those negative things, and they make her a particularly gender non-conforming character.

And sometimes I get frustrated because it feels like... idk! Like Karlach isn't just taken for who she is, I guess. There seems to be this need to emphasize a more feminine side of her. What if she was with a lover who was bigger and stronger than her? What if she was in a beautiful gown? What if she was taking care of everyone? ect. ect. Its not bad to depict those things, obviously. But I also very rarely see art thats leaning into her masculinity, that emphasizes it. Even though she's clearly masculine, and she clearly LIKES that. She LIKES masculinity. Idk, maybe I'm just imagining it or overthinking shit but its been on my mind so im venting

I am once again thinking about how we were ROBBED of seeing more of the Danish/Norse/Pagan culture in TLK. We occasionally got the juxtaposition when the Danes raided towns/strongholds, then the stuff with Skade (S3)/Brida (S5).

Also still wondering why we had Rumcofa celebrating Blood Month but not Eoferwic?! Like can you imagine how much more impactful Brida's attack would have been had it coincided with their preparations for Blood Month as well?!

The RealM Monster Maker Game

SO many years ago, when I was a wee artism child, I loved creature generators, mythological creatures, and rolling dice. So I made myself one, and for several years, would continue to use it to make Weird Critters, until my hyperfixations drew me elsewhere. I even gave the creatures a little backstory and world to inhabit - the RealM! (Real inventive, I know /sarcasm)

The Backstory

In 20xx, Humanity discovered a portal to another world, one with magic and medicines and technology that would greatly change and improve the world. The Guardians of this RealM were willing to share the fruits of their world, so long as humans came to visit, as their emotional energies would feed the RealM's magic, thus making both sides stronger.

But there was a catch...no Humans existed in the Realm, nor could they. For many ages ago, a Human had nearly destroyed the RealM, so Humanity was banished.

So the Guardians proposed that any Human who came through would temporarily become a denizen of the RealM, reassuming their Human form when they returned to the Earthside of the portal. Thus a deal was struck. What form will YOU take when you enter The RealM?

(I THINK I wanted to make this into a video game or a tabletop experience, but it's more fun as just an art game)

THE RULES

You need a d6 (six sided die), a paper and pencil/pen or a way to record your results, whatever your chosen art medium is, aaaand that's it!

There are six categories of changes - 1 Mammal, 2 Avian, 3 Reptile, 4 Amphibian and Fish, 5 Insect, and 6 Other. Each category was broken down into six more categories, and a few into six after that!

Mammal broke into Feline (which included mustelids), Canine (included vulpines), Rodentia (somehow bears ended up in here???), Hooved Mammals (even and odd toed), Seafaring Mammals, and Extinct Mammals. Sometimes I put Other Mammals instead of Extinct, which makes sense. Apes were in the Other Mammals category, and were supposed to be rarer in the RealM because of their similarity to Humans.

Avians were Predatory (owls, hawks, eagles, and the like), Seabirds (penguins too), Waterfowl, Songbirds, Pigeons (and doves), and Other Birds (like emus)! Not too much to say here, they could have been better put together.

Reptile was Lizards, Crocs/Gators (and caimans and gharials and so on), Turtles/Tortoises, Snakes, Other Reptiles, and Dinosaurs. I know science says they're closer to birds BUT I was little and needed another reptile category!

Amphibians had Frogs/Toads, Newts/Salamanders, Other Amphibians; Fish had Cold Ocean, Warm Ocean, and Freshwater. You could probably make each of those their own category of 6, but i NEEDED the Other Category!

Insect was Flies, Moths/Butterflies, Beetles, Mantises, Spiders (and anything in the arachnid family), and Other Insects (worms baby!).

Other is a Fun One - the categories were Other Animals (which also could include apes, but was mostly for echidnas and platypi, and octopi too), Mythological Creatures, Alien (literally just any alien from any media), Mechanical, Plant, and Missing! You could get a headless creature, and roll to place the face...buttface teehee...

If you roll a certain kind of creature, it's entirely up to you to pick what kind! You roll a feline - tiger or house cat? Roll a beetle - herculese or stink? You get the idea!

You could also roll for a color scheme instead of a feature - make your fella look like a monarch butterfly!

You could also roll for what part to replace, but I usually just went in this order anyway. The body parts for each roll are 1 Head, 2 Torso, 3 Arms, 4 Legs, 5 Hands, and 6 Feet. Hands and Feet could be switched out for upper/lower torso, wings, or tail!

I don't have time to draw a critter tonight but for old times sake, and the sake of this post, I rolled up someone with the head of a gecko, the body of a swan, the "wings" of a batfish, the legs of a lemur, the tail of a manticore, and the color scheme of a nudibranch! Wow that is...that sure is a critter...

Obey me lesson 12 thoughts and Solomon

Spoilers ahead for Nightbringer and S2 of ObeyMe

At first I thought maybe the curse originally was going to be forced to keep a promise, like most people. I thought about it and it made very little sense given the music and how Thirteen reacted.

So we get comatose, which makes more sense in context with the music. Actually wait no, we’re literally on the verge of death before we’re taken to the HoL where Simeon casts a spell on us and prevents us from dying. Side boys saving our lives <3

But the thing I wanna really talk about is the implications this has for lesson 11. Since we were kinda going off of the assumption that all promises were bounding we assumed Solomon wanted us to make that promise to stop us from siding against humanity. He said he didn’t remember the rule but we all kinda brushed it off as him lying. But since we now know that the making a promise would’ve killed MC, and thus anyone who makes one, Im inclined to believe Solomon when he said he forgot.

MC’s powers are still working to prevent the traps from being deadly because Mammon is turned into a Lil D when he breaks one, like in S2. So if MC’s powers were protecting themselves even slightly, I shudder to think what would’ve happened otherwise. Probably an instant death if I had to guess.

So with all of this, I believe Solomon truly did forget. He’s having a hard time remembering things from this time. Things were crazy at that moment and it could’ve just as easily slipped his mind. I also think he’s being honest when he says he doesn’t remember why Barbatos hates him, as he insists on it many times. That may be me being naive but I do believe he was telling the truth.

Solomon wouldn’t kill MC. No matter how much of a threat they are to the human realm.

In S2 when our powers were out of control and going to destroy all 3 realms Solomon says he was willing to stab Lucifer originally to protect the human realm but since that would upset MC so he wasn’t going to do it.

He puts MC’s feelings over the safety of not just the human realm, but every realm.

The option of killing you doesn’t come up. He’s not even considering it. You even have the dialogue option when he asks what to do to say something along the lines of “Guess we’ll die” and Solomon’s like “Yeah guess we will”

When I tell you S2 is where I fell in love with this man this is what I mean.

Alls this to say, he wouldn’t risk MC’s life for the safety of the human realm. And with the context of S2 it seems almost obvious. Man is down bad, and while he’d love for you to share his values he wouldn’t kill you or endanger your life if you didn’t.
