Absolutely. Hell, with some pasta and a little olive oil or butter, I'd make you a pretty bangin' pile of pasta with those ingredients. Bonus points if I can have a little chicken or bacon. Cook up your pasta per the package instructions. Something long and skinny is best like spaghetti, but use what you have. Salt the living fuck out of your water. It should taste a little like seawater. Save a quarter of a cup or so of your pasta water after the noodles have been cooking a bit. Melt a couple tablespoons of butter in a skillet and let it start to bubble a little. Add about a tablespoon of garlic and swirl it around. Let it cook until it's fragrant... just a minute or so. Toss in your pasta with a couple tablespoons of the pasta water. Spritz with lemon and shake on your shakey cheese. Toss toss toss. Add more shakey cheese. Toss toss toss. If you've got some red pepper or black pepper, give it a shake of that as well. And if you've got some chicken, cut it up into bite size pieces, and toss it in the butter before the garlic and cook until it's done. Then add the garlic and continue. You might need a little more pasta water. If you've got bacon, take about 3-4 strips, cut it up and render the fat out of it. Take it out, and then use the bacon fat like the butter or olive oil to cook the garlic etc. Add the bacon back in at the end with the parmesan. There you go. A perfectly serviceable meal with shelf stable stuff. You don't need fancy ingredients to make something tasty to eat. There's a time and place for the fresh versions of all of these (I use jarred garlic and lemon juice on the reg, but often splurge for real parmesan... it just can't be beat), but you don't -have- to have them to make something yummy.

I love Josh’s anti-classism so much. I grew up in a single parent household that didn’t have time/the ability to cook. I taught myself as an adult and ended up loving it. I cook with this stuff a lot. Shit, the RealLemon juice ends up in a lot of my cocktails. Sure, I like fancy ingredients when I can afford them and I have things I get picky about using - but I have bad hands, mincing garlic is painful as fuck. There’s a lot to be said for knowing how to work with what you have. Don’t shame people for trying, don’t shame people for feeding their families things that they enjoy.
