Garlic Beefsteak with Mushrooms and Béchamel Sauce
Ingredients:
Steak:
2 beef steaks (such as ribeye or sirloin), about 1-inch thick
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Fresh rosemary sprigs (for garnish)
Mushrooms:
1 cup mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
1 tablespoon butter
1 clove garlic, minced
Salt to taste
Béchamel Sauce:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
Salt and white pepper to taste
A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Steak:
Season the steaks generously with salt and black pepper.
In a skillet over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the steaks to the skillet and cook to your desired doneness, about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, depending on thickness.
Remove steaks from the skillet and let them rest.
Cook the Mushrooms:
In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Add the sliced mushrooms and the second clove of minced garlic, sautéing until the mushrooms are golden and tender.
Season with salt to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
Make the Béchamel Sauce:
In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes without letting it brown.
Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to prevent any lumps from forming.
Continue to cook and stir until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Season with salt, white pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if desired. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Dish:
Place the rested steaks on a warm plate.
Top the steaks with the sautéed mushrooms.
Pour the warm béchamel sauce over the steaks and mushrooms.
Garnish with fresh rosemary sprigs.

not to be like this but i drove half an hour out into my favourite corner of denmark and ugh... i love this country so much. something about being here just still feels like a warm blanket. i love how full of life the nature feels and how much space it gets. and i love how hilly it is, even if anyone who is not from the netherlands will bully me for thinking denmark is a hilly country. anyway driving around in my own car and listening to bruce made me feel so free and so at peace that i got teary-eyed for the millionth time because denmark is the love of my life :')
#Ingredients1 lb. boneless#skinless chicken breast ($5.56)2 Tbsp butter ($0.26)2 cloves garlic ($0.16)1/2 lb. penne pasta ($0.40))#i accidentally copy pasted my recipe in the tags ignore that#text

I can't stop thinking about catbi taking his chances at stealing a bit of spicy food Tomura's eating and poor Tomu just freaking out because it would absolutely fuck up a cat's stomach and Dabi's just there looking normal, even joyful about it
The thing that Dabi is surviving on is that Shigaraki knows literally nothing about cats because if he did, he would be very confused because the second onigiri he gave Dabi would have caused kidney failure and killed him. His ignorance means he would just be like, huh yeah my cat likes his food spicier than me? What of it?
And in the background Dabi is also snarfing down a piece of garlic bread and going back in to steal Shigaraki's too
#tanco speaks#ask#asks#one clove of garlic can be fatal to cats#onion is also highly toxic and in the food he was given in chapter 1 those are primary ingredients in most of the non-cat dishes!#Shigaraki knows nothing and should not be allowed near a real cat because a real cat would DIE

the thing about being a good cook is that sometimes you feel like shit about getting told for the hundredth time to diet and exercise more by your doctor. and you go home and begrudgingly make a "diet" meal (more bc you haven't gone grocery shopping this week and are low on ingredients and also need to use up the zucchini that's about to rot in the fridge) and while it looks really ugly it ends up tasting really good.
#i wanna talk about me#too sexy and skilled to make sad sack of shit soup taste bad#oh well#i boiled a couple tablespoons of brown rice in chicken broth with a lot of fine diced vegetable#1/4 onion a big carrot a zucchini and some garlic cloves. boiled til. idk. porridge like#threw in some shit from the spice cabinet...stirred in beaten egg for protein. a drizzle of olive oil on top#itlooks bad but it tastes really good...

made the most delicious honey garlic glaze for my fried tofu tonight I will dream about her
#RECIPE TIME#1 tbsp neutral oil (I used sesame) + 1/4 cup hot water + minced garlic + gochujang + soy sauce + honey + granulated sugar#(this is for the glaze the tofu is basically just cut and fry in the same neutral oil with salt + pepper)#aside from the oil I did not measure the rest of those ingredients exactly BUT#the recipe I used said 10 cloves garlic 2 tbsp honey 1 tbsp gochujang 3 tbsp soy sauce 2 tbsp sugar#I do think I ended up using slightly more honey than it called for bc I wanted a stickier sauce + I wanted the sweetness to come out more#oh yeah and simmer that sauce on medium high heat until u can scrape the spoon against the bottom and it stays separated 👍🏼#text post

We tend to mostly watch food shows in this household, and every time Iberico ham comes up in whatever show we're watching (Choped, Buzzfeed's Worth It, Master Chef, whatever)- I get a terrible flashback to the time @pissyeti came home from the cheese shop with an entire Iberico leg bone.
We made stock out of it, because what else are you going to do with a $99 leg bone? Except we threw it in a crock pot overnight; this was before we had an instantpot. It made the whole house smell like ham water.
The whole house just. Smacked of ham.
We ended up making the most amazing soup out of it (oranges, guajllo chiles, coffee, brisket), but my god. Imagine the dog-food qualities of prosciutto, intensified a thousandfold, permeating your clothes and skin. That inescapable porcine essence, suffusing your soul for days. An umami-bomb nightmare.
Anyway, Iberico itself is a strange thing- this is the wagyu of pigs, fed an exclusive diet of acorns- and the taste is distinctly lemony on top of the layered complexity of cured meat. Good shit; if you have access to buy it by the pound, try a slice or two.
Just- don't make stock in the crockpot unless you're prepared for the consequences.
#nattering#now we have an instantpot and it makes everything so much easier#food#1 rotisserie chicken carcass 1 onion 2 carrots 2 cloves garlic Celery if you have it Dill if you're not a coward or Ginger#40 minutes under normal pressure; strain; serve with cayenne and a squeeze of lemon or freeze for future soup#i'm nose blind; my wife is hypersensitive to smell#it's an awkward combination sometimes

one of my friends is trying to learn how to cook so i'm teaching him my favorite recipes and today we made sundubu jjigae together. it was a bit of a mess because i hadn't made it in a while but my god!!! stews that could make you forgive your father
#the version i make is not really authentic korean food (no one i cook for likes seafood so i can't use any. sad) but by god is it yummy#here i will share it with you. it's based on a friend's family recipe and on maangchi's recipe#you need. cooking oil + onion + green onion + garlic + bacon + w/e veggies you want + stock + kimchi + silken tofu + sesame oil + gochugaru#amounts depend on what you're feeling. i usually use a few cloves of garlic. about 1/4 of an onion. one or two green onions. etc#chop up garlic + onion + green onion + the other veggies + bacon#saute the garlic+onion+green onion+veggies over medium high heat and after a minute add the bacon#saute for a few more minutes until cooked to taste and then add kimchi and enough broth to cover everything. reduce to medium heat and cove#let it boil until everything is cooked through to your satisfaction (could be a few minutes could be a half hour. depends on ingredience)#while you wait mix together 1 tsp of sesame oil with however much pepper flake you wanna add (i usually use between 1 and 2 tbsp)#once the stew is done cooking add the silken tofu and the sesame oil mixture. stir it up. add more broth if you need to#and then if you want to. crack an egg or two into the stew and let it cook for a bit. then you turn off the stove and eat :]
