being anti ai is making me feel like in going insane. "you asked for thoughts about your characters backstory and i put it into chat gpt for ideas". studies have proven its making people dumber. "i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects. "youtube is impletmenting ai based age verification". my work has an entire graphics media department and has still put ai generated motivational posters up everywhere. ai playlists. ai facial verification. google ai microsoft ai meta ai snapchat ai. everyone treats it as a novelty. every treats it as a mandatory part of life. am i the only one who sees it? am i paranoid? am i going insane? jesus fucking christ. if i have to hear one more "well at least-" "but it does-" "but you can-" im about to lose it. i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to avoid the evil machine. have you no principles? no goddamn spine? am i the weird one here?

Movie POV switches and Deaf techie is the actual protagonist.

How I’d introduce a Deaf tech character in an action/sci-fi film.

Our heroes stop outside the big swoosh workshop door.

The introductory hero hands our pov protagonist a pair of earplugs.

“Why would I need those?”

“Trust me.”

Door opens, light and an INCREDIBLY LOUD recording of Beethoven’s Grosse Fuge Overture sweeps over our heroes. (Open to suggestions)

They step inside, the pov newbie clutching their ears.

Pick your path, 8/11/2025

I was making a mess with this one...it was a good kind of frustration. I didn't like it much until I took the tape off and took the photo.

We're in a heat wave, so I'll be taking it easy again today after I go into the garden to pick some greens. I'm only doing small chores today, and small projects, maybe a nap while enjoying the porch breezes.

I did paint the second coat on the west side of the shed early yesterday morning, and I did apply the first coat of the trim color on all three sides. It looks good. Here's a photo of the south and east side...I must've deleted the west side photo (oops.)

Venus and Jupiter are bright again this morning, they look like two eyes side by side, with their head tipped like my little cat Schmoo...but tipped in the opposite diagonal. (The painting behind him is one of mine, The Blue Square Window.)

Schmoo (the kitten with bonus toe beans) just turned 2 in July, he may not be the kitten chronologically, but he will always be the baby. He is always tipping his head, and is very dramatic about it. (The swoopy whiskers are amazing.)

I painted this after being at a celebration of life for one of my former professors, Jim, who had passed away. We were gathered at the art gallery were I had been exhibiting for a few years (it has since closed.) People were telling stories about him and one of my other former professors, Mike, told a funny story about him and another former professor of mine, Jerome, having a discussion about the painting Jim had on his easel. It was a blue square (he was a minimalist). Jerome was pondering its meaning (he was a narrative painter) and pontificating about it being a window to something, somewhere... blah, blah, blah... (Jerome loved to hear himself talk.) Jim looked at Jerome and said "It's just a fucking blue square window!" Thus inspired, I went home and made my own fucking blue square window...

Jim gave me a C in figure drawing one semester. (The previous semester, another prof gave me an A, and was very encouraging.) Jim was mad at me because I would "finish" my figure studies after I made them, so when I brought my work in for my final he wasn't pleased. I wasn't supposed to create finished drawings from my sketches. I guess I wasn't following directions again, I've been guilty of that quite often in my life. I was always making my own path, you see...connecting the dots to the sketch I made last night. I had to pick my path.

i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.

make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.

spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.
